A man who survived being shot by Kyle Rittenhouse during the 2020 Kenosha, Wisconsin, riots has filed a lawsuit against the 20-year-old and multiple police departments and officials.
Gaige Grosskreutz, who was shot in the arm by Rittenhouse after pointing a gun at the then-teenager, is seeking &#8220;damages for emotional distress, humiliation, loss of enjoyment of life, and other pain and suffering on all claims,&#8221; as well as economic losses and punitive damages, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/kyle-rittenhouse-hit-lawsuit-man-he-shot-2020-kenosha-clash-little-bit-shock">reported</a>. Grosskreutz filed the lawsuit on February 14.
&#8220;Astonishingly, the Kenosha Police Department, Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, their supervising officials and police officers, and law enforcement officers from surrounding communities did not treat Defendant Rittenhouse or any of the other armed individuals patrolling the streets as a threat to the safety of themselves or the citizens they were sworn to protect,&#8221; the lawsuit says.
&#8220;Instead, the law enforcement Defendants deputized these armed individuals, conspired with them, and ratified their actions by letting them patrol the streets, armed with deadly weapons, to mete out justice as they saw fit,&#8221; the lawsuit adds.
Grosskreutz admitted to pointing a gun at Rittenhouse when he testified at the latter’s trial in 2021. Rittenhouse, who was charged with murder after fatally shooting two men and injuring Grosskreutz, was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-kyle-rittenhouse-found-not-guilty">found not guilty</a> in November 2021 following a contentious trial.
On August 25, 2020, when Rittenhouse was 17, he and others armed with rifles began patrolling downtown Kenosha in order to protect a used car dealership from the looting and vandalism taking place during the riots in response to the police shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man, by a white police officer.
While guarding the car dealership, rioters began chasing Rittenhouse, and “[u]pon the sound of a gunshot behind him, Kyle turned and was immediately faced with an attacker lunging towards him and reaching for his rifle. He reacted instantaneously and justifiably with his weapon to protect himself, firing and striking the attacker,” a 2021 statement from his attorneys said.
“In fear for his life and concerned the crowd would either continue to shoot at him or even use his own weapon against him, Kyle had no choice but to fire multiple rounds towards his immediate attackers, striking two, including one armed attacker,” the law firm added.
A jury acquitted Rittenhouse of all charges.
Rittenhouse told Fox News that he would &#8220;prove my innocence again&#8221; during the lawsuit, but said he knew it would cost a lot of money to defend himself.

The Twitter Files revealed that one of the most important content distribution platforms on the internet had been corrupted by severe <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-twitter-files-release-shows-how-adam-schiff-staffers-harassed-the-company-with-absurd-ban-requests">ideological bias</a>. Leaked documents reveal Twitter staff suspending accounts and tinkering with distribution algorithms for purely political reasons. The Right always suspected Twitter wasn’t a fair forum; the Twitter Files proved it.
The Right has long held similar suspicions about YouTube, which has an estimated monthly user base of <a href="https://www.omnicoreagency.com/youtube-statistics/">2.6 billion</a> compared Twitter’s estimated <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/303681/twitter-users-worldwide/">368 million</a> monthly users. Critics tend to focus on obvious acts of censorship: Banning videos or shutting down channels for no apparent reason other than they offend liberal sensibilities. Alternative video hosting sites like <a href="https://rumble.com/">Rumble</a> have emerged to provide Right-wing and heterodox voices a censorship-free platform, but the audiences for those sites remain a microscopic fraction of YouTube’s.
My company, <a href="https://www.goodkidproductions.com/">Good Kid Productions</a>, has just been victimized by what appears to be a more subtle means of YouTube censorship, a way for the site to shut down dissident voices under the guise of “community safety.”
Late last year, our channel released <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BzAMjU14z4w">documentary</a> investigating two famous viral incidents centered on Kenosha, Wisconsin: The summer of 2020 shooting of Jacob Blake, a black man, by a white police officer, and, in the midst of the subsequent violent BLM riots, the killing of two people by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/thats-when-i-knew-they-didnt-have-a-case-rittenhouse-details-critical-moments-of-trial">Kyle Rittenhouse</a>, a teenager who came to Kenosha with an AR-15-style rifle to help protect private businesses.
For the first four weeks after its release, the video was untouched by YouTube management, allowing it to steadily rack up views. Then, suddenly, in late December, without warning, YouTube designated the video as “<a href="https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2802167?hl=en">age-restricted</a>.” 
This is supposed to be a yellow-card punishment. Videos get slapped with this designation for violating “community guidelines,” vaguely defined rules supposedly intended to prevent violent, sexual, dangerous, or otherwise inappropriate content from polluting the platform. The “age-restricted” designation doesn’t fully nuke the video: It gets to stay up, but under restrictions that, in theory, simply prevent it from reaching an underage audience.
In practice, age restriction is a death knell: The video can’t be embedded on external websites; viewers have to sign in before they can watch it; and it receives scant – if any – boost from YouTube’s recommendation algorithm, which is a crucial source of views.
A documentary deconstructing the media’s coverage of a police shooting and the resulting mass riots is, admittedly, going to contain some mature themes. But all the “mature” visuals come from publicly available news pieces that are themselves available unrestricted on YouTube. The violence isn’t graphic. It’s the sort that might make PBS News. There’s no blood, guts, or sex, and there’s just a single use of profanity (by a BLM activist). And YouTube’s community guidelines explicitly carve out exceptions for news pieces, which is exactly what our documentary is.
The original age restriction notification did not specify what part or parts of the video were problematic, so we were left to guess how to fix it. YouTube has native editing tools that allow channel managers to modify videos after they’ve been published. We used them to blur out some gun violence and then formally submitted an appeal, which is supposed to be overseen by a flesh-and-blood human being.
On January 1, we received a reply from “Emman” at YouTube support informing us that “a human reviewer re-evaluated your content and determined that it does violate our Community Guidelines. We know this is probably disappointing news, but it&#8217;s our job to make sure that YouTube is a safe place for all.” 
That’s it for the explanation. Emman didn’t provide specifics. He (she? it?) didn’t tell us what triggered the original designation or what doomed our appeal. Presumably, YouTube gets thousands of appeal requests every day. We’re not expecting a detailed report; we just want to know what specifically the human reviewer saw that made them rule to retain the restriction.
We responded by asking what specific parts of the video would need to be modified to drop the restriction. On January 12, Emman replied: “I understand that you would like to blur out your video, and have them [sic] be reviewed again. Unfortunately, if the video is already reviewed by our internal team the decision is final regardless if the video is edited or not.”
And that’s it. There is no next step. Views on the video have dropped to a trickle. It’s been shared by several large social media accounts, each with millions of followers, but the age restriction is a traffic choke point, substantially squeezing down the audience generated by those shares.
There’s no definitive proof this restriction is political, but it’s hard not to be suspicious. Our documentary deconstructs the lazy, leftist lies about race and police that saturate Silicon Valley. What would a Twitter Files-like revelation of the internal communications of YouTube reveal? How many of these restriction decisions are arbitrary? And how many are driven by an agenda?

The man who was caught on video firing a gun moments before <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kyle-rittenhouse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kyle Rittenhouse</a> shot and killed two assailants during the 2020 riot in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kenosha" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kenosha, WI.</a>, has been charged with armed robbery and other alleged crimes, according to a report.
Joshua Ziminski and his wife, Kelly Ziminski, both of whom took part in the August 25, 2020 riots that rocked the city, were charged Monday night with crimes including the armed robbery charge as well as armed burglary, false imprisonment, intimidation, and ID theft, the <a href="https://kenoshacountyeye.com/2022/09/13/kenosha-rioting-duo-including-man-who-shot-first-in-jail-holding-on-six-felonies-including-armed-robbery-burglary/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kenosha County Eye reported</a>. Details of the crime spree were not immediately available, but The Daily Wire confirmed that both Ziminskis were booked Monday on multiple charges.
Ziminski was arrested following the riots on a gun charge as well as arson, for his alleged role in setting a trailer on fire during the riot. Video of the riot showed him firing a handgun in the air as Rittenhouse, who told reporters he was there to guard businesses from rioters, ran for his life. The then-17-year-old shot three people who chased and attacked him, including Joseph Rosenbaum, 36, and Anthony Huber, 26, who both died.

Rittenhouse was charged with counts of first-degree intentional and reckless homicide in the deaths, as well as for the wounding of Gaige Grosskreutz. But a jury found he was defending himself during the riot, which was sparked by the police shooting of an armed black man named Jacob Blake. The teen was facing life in prison with no chance at parole, but was acquitted on all charges last November.
Rittenhouse, who lived with his mom across the state border in Illinois, worked as a lifeguard in Kenosha, where his father lived. He had agreed to help provide security for local merchants on the night of the riots, and was armed with an AR-15-style rifle that he had bought. He was also acquitted of weapons charges in the case.
After his acquittal, Rittenhouse became a symbol of self-defense to many on the right, while his critics claimed he got away with murder.
Ziminski was charged several months after the riot and was freed on bail earlier this year, the outlet reported. He was awaiting trial when he was arrested Monday.
Ziminski, who has an upside-down crucifix, three teardrops, and the word “SIN” tattooed on his head, was originally supposed to go on trial in January for the riot-related charges, but the trial was delayed after he was accused of intimidating a freelance photographer who was set to testify in the case.

In Kenosha, Wisconsin, where riots reportedly <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/kenosha-shooting-protest-looting-fires/6402998/">caused</a> $50 million of damage with at least 40 businesses destroyed and 100 damaged after the Black Lives Matter protests in 2020, the town just elected its first-ever GOP executive.
Samantha Kerkman, a state representative of the 61st Assembly District who is a <a href="https://ballotpedia.org/Samantha_Kerkman">member</a> of the Republican Party, <a href="https://www.kenoshanews.com/news/local/samantha-kerkman-defeats-rebecca-matoska-mentink-in-kenosha-county-executive-race/article_ea2d77b6-b552-11ec-bdf3-67f76be8e612.html">received</a> 51.32% of the vote; her Democratic opponent Rebecca Matoska-Mentink garnered 48.5% of the vote.
Kerkman told <a href="https://www.wispolitics.com/2022/kerkman-wins-kenosha-county-exec-race/">WisPolitics</a> that the biggest issue contributing to her victory was “public safety, wanting to feel safe in our county,” adding voters approved of her decades in Madison. “I think the residents are very in tune to that, someone who knows how to pick up the phone and call when you need a grant or something and making our county better.”
Kerkman also stated, “I think it was the experience that I bring from Madison. I have been working with the county executive for years on issues that impact the county.” During her campaign Kerkman stated that she had a “reputation of being eagle-eyed in saving money for Wisconsin taxpayers. &#8230; I (have) a critical understanding of the relationship between county and state government, as well as the ability, experience and vision to guide Kenosha in the years ahead as county executive.”
“In her position as county executive, Kerkman will also appoint and supervise county department heads and appoint non-elected members to all of the county’s boards and commissions,” <a href="https://katv.com/news/nation-world/kenosha-county-leadership-turns-red-for-first-time-in-history-following-violent-riots-rit">KATV</a> noted.

Another indication of the possible red wave coming: “Former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, a Republican candidate for governor, endorsed 48 school board candidates. Of those, 34 won including eight incumbents, based on preliminary results,” <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/kenosha-county-flips-red-democratic-leadership">Fox News</a> noted.
Last November, former New York Times reporter Nellie Bowles <a href="https://bariweiss.substack.com/p/tgif-inflation-rises-russiagate-falls?s=r">admitted</a> that the Times withheld a story she wrote about the true effects of the Black Lives Matter riots in Kenosha.
As The Daily Wire’s Ashe Short <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/former-nyt-reporter-story-about-effects-of-kenosha-riots-was-held-until-after-the-election/">reported</a>:
<blockquote>Buried in her column and only vaguely alluded to in the subhead, Bowles explained that the Times sent her to Kenosha last summer during the riots to basically confirm the “mainstream liberal argument” that “burning down businesses for racial justice was both good and healthy” because it “allowed for the expression of righteous rage, and the businesses all had insurance to rebuild.”
But when she arrived in Kenosha and began speaking to the locals, she learned this was not the case.
“The part of Kenosha that people burned in the riots was the poor, multi-racial commercial district, full of small, underinsured cell phone shops and car lots. It was very sad to see and to hear from people who had suffered. Beyond the financial loss, small storefronts are quite meaningful to their owners and communities, which continuously baffles the Zoom-class,” Bowles wrote.
So, she filed a story in August that reflected what she discovered – but that story wouldn’t get published until after the 2020 election. Bowles accepts the notion that the piece could have simply been bad, but a few weeks after she sent it in, she said an editor essentially told her: “The Times wouldn’t be able to run my Kenosha insurance debacle piece until after the 2020 election, so sorry.” &#8230;
“If you lived in those neighborhoods on fire, you were not supposed to get an extinguisher. The proper response — the only acceptable response — was to see the brick and mortar torn down, to watch the fires burn and to say: thank you,” she concluded.</blockquote>

Speaking to conservative podcast host Charlie Kirk, Kyle Rittenhouse this week revealed what was on his mind during the trial as he sat expressionless like a “potted plant.”
“Believe it or not, I’m freaking out behind the scenes, because you don’t know what’s gonna happen,” the teenager <a href="https://omny.fm/shows/the-charlie-kirk-show/the-rittenhouse-interview-a-charlie-kirk-show-excl">told</a> Kirk, describing how he dealt with the trial and public spectacle.
Rittenhouse credited his support group, including his three attorneys, for helping him “stay calm.”
“What I’m thinking when I’m just the blank-faced, potted plant in court, I’m just saying in my head, ‘Is this guy serious?,’ referring to ‘Lunchbox’ and Binger, also known as ‘Little Finger,’” said Rittenhouse.
The name “Lunchbox” is a reference to Assistant District Attorney James Kraus, who was dubbed the nickname by some online commentators, perhaps due to his weight. “Little Finger” and “Little Binger” were common nicknames for Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger.
Kraus and Binger led the prosecution against Rittenhouse, who was facing life in prison without the chance of parole. Last month, the teen was found not guilty by a jury on all counts.
Appearing in a teaser clip for a documentary from Fox News host Tucker Carlson, Rittenhouse said after the acquittal that the jury “reached the right verdict.”
“Self-defense is not illegal, and I believe they came to the correct verdict, and I’m glad that everything went well.”
“It’s been a rough journey, but we made it through it,” the 18-year-old said. “We made it through the hard part.”
The special follows the teenager through the last year after he fatally shot two men and injured a third while defending himself against attackers during a Black Lives Matter protest that devolved into a riot.
“It’s the stuff that keeps you up at night, like once you do get to sleep, your dreams are about what happened and you’re waking up in a dark cold sweat,” the teenager revealed to Carlson’s crew.
Rittenhouse revealed that he has dreams about the deadly night “every single day.”
“It’s quite scary actually, because the dreams feel so real. And they’re not the same at all, they’re all different. They’re the different scenarios that run through your head during the day, like, what could have happened,” he detailed.
“I’m alive, but what could have happened, like what if I wasn’t alive, or what if I did let Mr. Rosenbaum steal my gun? It’s those types of dreams … almost every outcome is me getting seriously injured or hurt or dead. Those are the dreams I have on a daily basis.”
It was revealed during the trial by Rittenhouse’s defense attorney Mark Richards that the teenager is in therapy for the PTSD he suffers from, stemming from the night of August 25, 2020.

Rittenhouse Reveals What Was On His Mind As Prosecutors ‘Lunchbox’ And ‘Little Finger’ Made Outrageous Claims

The Kenosha Police Department in Wisconsin released video this week of the police traffic stop of NBC News freelance journalist James Joseph Morrison, who was stopped for following the jury bus from the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.
The video shows the journalist admitting that &#8220;yes&#8221; he was &#8220;following&#8221; a vehicle, per orders from New York. An officer involved in the stop also concludes that Morrison has &#8220;no ties&#8221; to Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Neither Morrison, nor anyone at NBC, was ultimately charged with the crime of jury tampering &#8220;because police interrupted any opportunity to do so,&#8221; the Kenosha department <a href="https://lawandcrime.com/live-trials/live-trials-current/kyle-rittenhouse/kenosha-police-release-bodycam-video-of-kyle-rittenhouse-jury-bus-incident-that-led-to-msnbc-ban-from-courthouse/">told</a> Law &amp; Crime.
“Were you following a vehicle?” an officer asks Morrison, per video footage. According to a police report, the reporter was only one block away from the unmarked bus.
Here&#8217;s how some of the interaction unfolds, according to Law &amp; Crime:
<blockquote>“I was trying to see — I was being called by New York, going, maybe these are people you need to follow, but I, I don’t know,” Morrison said.
“I was trying to . . .”
He trailed off.
“You was trying to what?” an officer asked.
“Just do what they told me to do,” Morrison responded.
“New York told you to follow a vehicle?” the officer asked.
“Yes.”</blockquote>
Morrison was eventually asked about those instructing him to follow the vehicle. He calls a woman named Irene Byron, a booking producer at NBC, and has the officer speak to her. Here&#8217;s some of Byron&#8217;s explanation for the reporter following the vehicle, per Law &amp; Crime:
<blockquote>Um, we — we — we were just trying to respectfully, um, just trying to see if it’s, um, if it’s possible to, um, to try and get any leads about — um — about the, the case, and so we were, we, uh, we were just keeping our distance, um, just to see, like, where, um, peop — people involved in — in the — in the trial, um, are positioned. By no means were we trying to get in contact with any of — any of the jury members or whoever’s in the car. We just were, um, trying to see, like, where, um, where key players in the trial may be at.</blockquote>
When the officer asks Morrison if he has any personal ties to Kenosha, the reporter says he “loves” the community and talks about his reporting. The officer dismisses the response and declares that Morrison &#8220;has no ties&#8221; to the area.
As highlighted by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-rittenhouse-judge-bans-msnbc-from-trial-after-man-claiming-to-be-employee-tails-jury-bus">The Daily Wire</a> last month, Judge Bruce Schroeder, the Wisconsin judge overseeing the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, banned MSNBC from the courthouse over the incident.
“The jury in this case is being transported from a different location in a bus with the windows covered so that they aren’t exposed to any signs by one side or another or interests in the case, so I’m going to call it a sealed bus, and that’s been done every day and they’re brought here to this building,” the judge told the courtroom.
“Police, when they stopped him because he was following at a distance of about a block and went through a red light, pulled him over and inquired of him what was going on. He gave that information and stated that he had been instructed … to follow the jury bus,” Schroeder added.

Carlson began the segment with a comment about Gaige Grosskreutz, who was one of the three men Rittenhouse shot in self-defense during an August, 2020 riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
&#8220;Gaige Grosskreutz stuck a loaded gun in your face,&#8221; Carlson said, noting that Grosskreutz had not been charged with any crimes pursuant to his interaction with Rittenhouse.
&#8220;He — I told him I was going to the police and he pointed a gun at my head. And from what I remember — time slowed down — I just remember staring down the barrel of a pistol thinking I&#8217;m about to die,&#8221; Rittenhouse paused and took a deep breath before continuing.
&#8220;He hasn&#8217;t been charged with a single crime, and what&#8217;s really disturbing is that his DUI case was dropped right before my trial so my attorneys couldn&#8217;t ask him about it,&#8221; <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/rittenhouse-on-if-hes-been-watched-over-i-believe-gods-been-on-my-side-from-the-beginning/">Rittenhouse</a> continued, noting that the case had been officially closed just a week before the trial began.
Carlson went on to ask Rittenhouse whether he was surprised to see legacy media outlets painting Grosskreutz as &#8220;a hero.&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t see him as — In my opinion, there&#8217;s no winners in this case, there&#8217;s no heroes in this case. I defended myself, I was attacked,&#8221; Rittenhouse replied, adding, &#8220;I think it&#8217;s actually quite sickening how Mr. Huber and Mr. Grosskreutz are described as heroes when it&#8217;s on video that they attempted to murder me in the middle of the street.&#8221;
&#8220;So what&#8217;s the message you think the media are sending by describing them as heroes?&#8221; Carlson asked.
Rittenhouse said that the message he got was that &#8220;they&#8217;re saying you can go out and riot and attack anybody and you will have the support from the media and the politicians to do whatever you want and kill innocent people.&#8221;

&#8220;I’m going to get a lot of hate for this, but I was a pretty big Andrew Yang supporter before all this,&#8221; Rittenhouse said, prompting a loud laugh from Carlson.
&#8220;Were you really? You were part of the Yang Gang?&#8221; he asked. &#8220;I like Yang.&#8221;
&#8220;I was part of the Yang Gang. He’s a good dude,&#8221; Rittenhouse said.
&#8220;I wasn’t really into politics. I didn’t know much about Trump. I didn’t know much about Biden. I went to a Trump rally because Trump supports the police. He’s a businessman. That’s what I liked about Trump. I didn’t know much about politics. I was just a 17-year-old kid,&#8221; Rittenhouse added.
&#8220;But you liked Andrew Yang,&#8221; Carlson said again.
&#8220;I liked Andrew Yang,&#8221; Rittenhouse replied. &#8220;I liked his policy a little bit.&#8221;
&#8220;Yeah. Well, he’s a very smart, interesting guy,&#8221; Carlson said, asking Rittenhouse whether his experiences over the last year and throughout the trial had changed his politics.

&#8220;Assistant District Attorney Binger is a corrupt person who just wants to make a name for himself and not look at the facts. I used to be a fan of the prosecutors — not anymore. I believe there are still good prosecuting attorneys out there but he&#8217;s a prosecuting attorney that wants to make a name for himself and he&#8217;s supposed to speak the truth and nothing but the truth, but he decided he wanted to lie and try to put me in prison for the rest of my life for defending myself,&#8221; Rittenhouse said.
&#8220;I mean, that must be shocking for you as a kid to realize the system can destroy someone who they know doesn’t deserve to be destroyed just for political reasons,&#8221; Carlson replied.
&#8220;It’s sickening because this is a case that never, that shouldn’t, this is a case that has nothing to do with politics but politics were brought into it for people’s own agenda,&#8221; Rittenhouse concluded.
As the video clip wrapped up, &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; host Ainsley Earhardt turned to Crenshaw and asked, &#8220;After you hear that, &#8220;What are your thoughts?&#8221;
&#8220;He’s completely right. We all saw the clips of that prosecution and it was a clown show,&#8221; Crenshaw replied. &#8220;They made the most absurd arguments. At one point he said you lose your right to self-defense once you bring a gun which of course is not true. That’s not how self-defense works especially when somebody else instigated the attack on you and there was clearly a riot and burning of buildings going on but these are the things he said. He would question Kyle Rittenhouse and say why were you running, why were you in such a hurry and Kyle would say well because there was a fire, you know? They tried to paint this picture of what was on the ground which is just completely untrue and thank God Kyle is out, I feel bad for him.&#8221;
Crenshaw then pivoted to address former Rittenhouse attorney Lin Wood, who <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/rittenhouse-past-attorneys-used-me-for-their-own-benefit-kept-me-in-jail-for-87-days-when-i-couldve-been-released/">Rittenhouse</a> said left him in jail for nearly three months while he raised money for his own agenda under the guise of preparing a defense.
&#8220;You know, let’s not forget also another corrupt lawyer, Lin Wood. Lin Wood, who is a long time grifter, let Kyle Rittenhouse rot in jail for almost three months before getting him out. Why? So he could continue to make money and make a name for himself,&#8221; Crenshaw said. &#8220;So it is really deeply unfortunate all this happened to Kyle and I’m glad he’s out.&#8221;
Rittenhouse told Carlson that he had spent 87 days in jail because of Wood and another attorney, John Pierce.

MacCallum asked Richards to address the fact that several <a href="https://twitter.com/zackbeauchamp/status/1461793075160928261">Republicans</a> in Congress had suggested the possibility that Rittenhouse would make a <a href="https://twitter.com/RepMattGaetz/status/1461146566635540482">good intern</a> — something that Richards had already <a href="https://www.insider.com/kyle-rittenhouses-attorney-disgusting-that-gop-is-trying-to-cash-in-2021-11">publicly condemned</a>.
&#8220;A lot of people want to use Kyle for their own means. I think the way that Rittenhouse name right now has trended on Twitter and that’s what we live in is a Twitter society, people want to use his name, get it out there so they can get some publicity. I think it’s cheap. That’s what I think,&#8221; Richards said.
MacCallum then asked what advice he would give Rittenhouse now that the trial was over and he could go back to his life.
&#8220;I heard you say, &#8216;Look, it’s up to Kyle,&#8217; and you and the other attorney who — he obviously had good relationships with both of you and you talked about the struggles of dealing with this case — but what is your advice to him about how he should live his life? He’s got a lot of big decisions to make about whether or not he goes to college and keeps his head down and gets on with his life or becomes a symbol for certain things that people would like him to be a symbol for.&#8221;
&#8220;Yeah, my advice would be to change his name and start his life over,&#8221; Richards replied. &#8220;He’s very recognizable right now. A lot of people that I don’t think have his best interests at heart. Probably want to make him a symbol of something I don’t think he wants to be necessarily associated with. Once you give up your name and likeness and you join those causes, I think a lot of people will use you for their own purposes and you won’t be able to control it. We’ve had that talk with Kyle. It’s a fine line where he decides to go. Ultimately I hope he makes the right choices. I would think his life would be easier being anonymous and going on with his life as opposed to try to keep his supporters happy.&#8221;
MacCallum then pivoted to address the case, saying that she felt like the jury wasn&#8217;t getting enough credit for listening to such a high-profile and <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/msnbc-host-disgusted-by-kenosha-verdict-calls-rittenhouse-a-little-murderous-white-supremacist/">politically-charged</a> case and doing the best that they could to decide the issue without bias.
&#8220;There’s not a lot of respect and acknowledgment of that on both sides,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;Those jurors, you know, started with 20. Ended up with 18 and down to 12. They’re under a tremendous amount of pressure. Many of them if not all of them knew that going into it once they knew the case that they had been summoned for,&#8221; Richards replied, noting that the jurors had appeared to be acutely aware that no matter what decision they ultimately reached, half of the country was going to be angry with them for reaching it.
&#8220;I give them a huge amount of credit for being able to put that aside, not listen to the people who were outside screaming and yelling to hang Kyle and do what I think the evidence warranted,&#8221; Richards concluded.
&#8220;Well, they did that. I think it’s important to respect their decision and their finding and the hard work that they put into it. It’s not an easy task. They did a better job of putting the blinders on than perhaps a lot of us on the outside,&#8221; MacCallum agreed

‘Change His Name And Start His Life Over’: Defense Attorney Offers Post-Trial Advice To Kyle Rittenhouse

In <a href="https://bariweiss.substack.com/p/tgif-inflation-rises-russiagate-falls">a piece</a> for her fiancée Bari Weiss’ substack, former New York Times reporter Nellie Bowles revealed late last week that her former employer withheld a story she wrote about the true effects of the Black Lives Matter riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year until after President Joe Biden was elected.
Buried in her column and only vaguely alluded to in the subhead, Bowles explained that the Times sent her to Kenosha last summer during the riots to basically confirm the “mainstream liberal argument” that “burning down businesses for racial justice was both good and healthy” because it “allowed for the expression of righteous rage, and the businesses all had insurance to rebuild.”
But when she arrived in Kenosha and began speaking to the locals, she learned this was not the case.
“The part of Kenosha that people burned in the riots was the poor, multi-racial commercial district, full of small, underinsured cell phone shops and car lots. It was very sad to see and to hear from people who had suffered. Beyond the financial loss, small storefronts are quite meaningful to their owners and communities, which continuously baffles the Zoom-class,” Bowles wrote.
So, she filed a story in August that reflected what she discovered – but that story wouldn’t get published until after the 2020 election. Bowles accepts the notion that the piece could have simply been bad, but a few weeks after she sent it in, she said an editor essentially told her: “The Times wouldn’t be able to run my Kenosha insurance debacle piece until after the 2020 election, so sorry.”
This editor reportedly gave her various reasons, including space, timing, and tweaks.
“Whatever the reason for holding the piece, covering the suffering after the riots was not a priority. The reality that brought Kyle Rittenhouse into the streets was one we reporters were meant to ignore. The old man who tried to put out a blaze at a Kenosha store <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/08/26/elderly-man-defending-store-during-kenosha-riots-has-jaw-broken/">had his jaw broken</a>,” Bowles wrote.
“If you lived in those neighborhoods on fire, you were not supposed to get an extinguisher. The proper response — the only acceptable response — was to see the brick and mortar torn down, to watch the fires burn and to say: thank you,” she concluded.
The 2020 election was held on November 3, 2020. It took a few days for some states to finish counting ballots, particularly mail-in ballots. Bowles’ Kenosha <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2020/11/09/business/small-business-insurance-unrest-kenosha.html">article</a> was published on November 9. It cuts right to the chase in its headline: “Businesses Trying to Rebound After Unrest Face a Challenge: Not Enough Insurance.”
Bowles explained that while “large chains like Walmart and Best Buy have excellent insurance, many small businesses that have been burned down in the riots lack similar coverage. And for them, there is no easy way to replace all that they lost.”
“In Kenosha, more than 35 small businesses were destroyed, and around 80 were damaged, according to the city’s business association. Almost all are locally owned and many are underinsured or struggling to manage,” she added in the Times article.

Former NYT Reporter: Story About Effects Of Kenosha Riots Was Held Until After The Election

Five schools in the city of Kenosha, Wisconsin, have moved to virtual learning for the rest of the week as the city anticipates protests in the wake of a verdict in the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse. 
The five schools, Brass Elementary, Frank Elementary School, Harborside Academy, Reuther Central High School, and Washington Middle School, were all closed Thursday as a safety precaution because of their close proximity to the Kenosha County Courthouse, where the trial is taking place, according to <a href="https://www.wisn.com/article/five-kenosha-schools-going-virtual-because-of-kyle-rittenhouse-trial/38284958">WISN 12 Milwaukee</a>. 
&#8220;While we have not been advised of any existing imminent danger, we feel this is the best course of action to protect our students and staff during an uncertain time,” the Kenosha Unified School District said in a message to parents, via WISN. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement to receive support as needed in the days and weeks ahead.” 
The schools will remain closed Friday and over the weekend.
The move comes as protests escalated outside the courthouse as the city, and the nation, brace for the verdict. The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-protesters-promise-to-shut-it-down-if-kyle-is-acquitted-noise-heard-inside-courtroom">reported</a> Tuesday that some protesters gathered outside the courthouse, chanting “no justice, no peace,” and “If Kenosha don’t get it, shut it down,” among other slogans. The commotion reportedly could be heard inside at times. 
The <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/11/18/kenosha-schools-anticipate-unrest-shift-to-virtual-learning/">New York Post</a> reported further escalations by protesters Wednesday. According to the Post, a protester was arrested after he attempted to steal the sign of a pro-Rittenhouse demonstrator, then punched and body-slammed a journalist who attempted to intervene. The Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2021/11/17/kyle-rittenhouse-jurors-return-for-day-2-of-deliberations/">further</a> reported that another physical altercation broke out between the same two individuals shortly afterward. Both the man and another protester were arrested. 
A video posted by WISN 12 showed protesters and media reporters outside the county courthouse surrounding a Kenosha Police van as officers arrested and detained an unidentified protester outside the courthouse. 
The jury is now in its third day of deliberation, having spent most of the day Wednesday asking questions about whether they would be able to view high definition video of the moment Rittenhouse shot Joseph Rosenbaum, the first man shot by Rittenhouse on the night of August 25, 2020.
Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kenosha-braces-for-kyle-rittenhouse-trial-verdict">activated</a> 500 members of the National Guard to render support to local law enforcement, in anticipation of violent protests. 
“We continue to be in close contact with our partners at the local level to ensure the state provides support and resources to help keep the Kenosha community and greater area safe,” said Gov. Evers. “The Kenosha community has been strong, resilient, and has come together through incredibly difficult times these past two years, and that healing is still ongoing. I urge folks who are otherwise not from the area to please respect the community by reconsidering any plans to travel there and encourage those who might choose to assemble and exercise their First Amendment rights to do so safely and peacefully.”

Bush tied her claim to the Kenosha protests following the officer-involved shooting that left Jacob Blake paralyzed, arguing that if <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/rittenhouse-day-2-jury-dismissed-still-no-verdict/">Kyle Rittenhouse</a> was acquitted after shooting three people and killing two in August of 2020, it was proof that white supremacists could get away with murder. There is no evidence that Rittenhouse has ever been connected with any white supremacist group.
&#8220;When we marched in Ferguson, white supremacists would hide behind a hill near where Michael Brown Jr. was murdered and shoot at us. They never faced consequences,&#8221; Bush said. &#8220;If Kyle Rittenhouse gets acquitted, it tells them that even 7 years later they still can get away with it.&#8221;
Bush&#8217;s campaign followed her tweet with a statement reiterating the congresswoman&#8217;s claim, saying, &#8220;While on the frontlines of the Ferguson Uprising, Congresswoman Bush and other activists were shot at by white supremacist vigilantes. The question we need to ask is why white supremacists feel empowered to open-carry rifles, incite violence, and put Black lives at risk across our country.&#8221;
But when the <a href="https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/rep-cori-bush-says-white-supremacists-shot-at-ferguson-protesters-but-chief-not-aware-of/article_fbf2b08a-a49e-504b-8080-13dfb6f9f947.html">St. Louis Post-Dispatch</a> asked whether Chief McCall knew of any such shootings, his response was simple: &#8220;None that I’m aware of.&#8221;
The former mayor took things a step further, telling NewsTalk STL radio host Tony Colombo – who covered the Ferguson protests on the ground — that the only shots fired during the Ferguson protests were fired at police officers or between rival gang members.
&#8220;I reached out personally to James Knowles, who was the mayor of Ferguson at that time,&#8221; Colombo said during a November 16th broadcast. &#8220;He called it 100% BS, what Cori Bush said. He said the only gunshots were people taking shots at cops and rival gangs shooting at each other, ending up with injuries at different times.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.stltoday.com/news/local/crime-and-courts/man-found-guilty-of-shooting-two-officers-at-ferguson-protest/article_5c37a53e-faf1-52ba-9907-fa0afc4e3def.html">Jeffrey Williams</a>, 21, was charged and later convicted for shooting and wounding the two officers, but claimed that he had not intended to fire at police. &#8220;Nobody aiming at no police. I ran up the hill and he (an unidentified person) shot at the car. … I shot back,&#8221; he said.
Then St. Louis County Police Chief <a href="https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2015/08/12/431978076/oath-keepers-say-theyre-defending-ferguson-others-say-theyre-not-helping">John Belmar</a> noted that, while he did not believe their presence to be particularly helpful, there had been members of the Oath Keepers present in Ferguson and reports that local Ku Klux Klan members planned to be there as well. However, no one associated with either group was charged in any of the shootings that took place during the protests.
