Brandon Blackstock, the ex-husband of pop singer Kelly Clarkson, has died at the age of 48 following a battle with cancer.
&#8220;It is with great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock has passed away,&#8221; a rep for Blackstock’s family <a href="https://people.com/brandon-blackstock-kelly-clarkson-ex-husband-dead-11727669">told</a> People in a statement. &#8220;Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family. We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask everyone to respect the family&#8217;s privacy during this very difficult time.&#8221;
The news comes following Clarkson abruptly postponing her Las Vegas residency. The “American Idol” winner said she had to cancel to be with her children, River, 11, and Remington, 9, but did not go into detail about Blackstock’s condition. 
&#8220;While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them,&#8221; she <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DNCSxWEpKEY/">shared</a> with fans on August 6. She went on to thank her followers for their &#8220;grace, kindness and understanding.&#8221;
Blackstock first met Clarkson at a rehearsal for the Academy of Country Music Awards in May 2006. He was married to his ex-wife Melissa Ashworth at the time, but the pop singer said she immediately felt a spark.
The pair met up again years later and wed in October 2013. Blackstock went on to become Clarkson&#8217;s manager, and they welcomed two children together. The music exec also has two other children and had recently become a grandfather in 2022, the outlet noted.
Clarkson said she agreed to take on Blackstock as her manager after seeing how he handled Blake Shelton’s career. She had previously been represented by Brandon&#8217;s father, Narvel Blackstock, who was married to Reba McEntire for several years.
“I wouldn’t have hired Brandon to be my manager if I didn’t see first-hand how great he is at that and how much he cares about Blake,” she <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/celebrity/music/a23399028/kelly-clarkson-talk-show-interview/">told</a> Marie Claire in 2018. “And the way that [Blake’s] career has blown up, I would have hired Brandon regardless. He’s really talented at what he does and his mind really does work in a completely different way.&#8221;
Clarkson and Blackstock finalized their divorce in 2022.
&#8220;I think the thing about divorce — especially having it publicized, and people thinking they know the whole thing — the hardest part of that is, like, it wasn&#8217;t an overnight decision,&#8221; Clarkson said during a 2023 appearance on the “Angie Martinez IRL” podcast. “I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it awesome. I wanted to make it everything it possibly could be, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.”

Kelly Clarkson gave an emotional message this week as she reflected on the last six years of her talk show, but still has yet to explain her recent unexplained absence from the show.
During the taping of the 1,000th episode of “<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cyFFZ2khkVg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Kelly Clarkson Show</a>,” the host spoke to audience members and pointed out that she’s gone through a lot since the show started in 2019.
“We created a community and supported each other through a lot of ups and downs — a lot of ups and downs personally as well,” Clarkson said, without directly addressing the end of her marriage to Brandon Blackstock, with whom she shares two kids. The two were married for seven years before splitting in 2020 and their divorce was finalized in 2022, <a href="https://pagesix.com/2025/03/21/entertainment/kelly-clarkson-says-shes-lost-on-talk-show-after-absence/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a> noted.
“For 1,000 episodes, we have laughed together, we have cried together with beautiful stories, sang together with some people, danced together, celebrated and competed together. I’ve lost, alone, a lot,” she added.
While the host didn’t explain exactly what she was referring to, when the audience seemed hesitant on how to respond, she assured them, “It’s OK!”

&#8220;Everybody thinks it&#8217;s <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/health-wellness/2024/04/17/ozempic-withdrawal-surprise-pregnancy/73340586007/">Ozempic</a>,&#8221; Clarkson said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not. It&#8217;s something else. But it&#8217;s something that aids in helping break down the sugar. Obviously, my body doesn&#8217;t do it right.&#8221;
Clarkson said her doctor &#8220;chased&#8221; her for &#8220;like two years&#8221; urging her to get on medication, because her “blood work got so bad,” admitting she was unaware how much she had gained.

In 2022, Clarkson’s divorce from her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock became official after almost seven years of marriage. The singer <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ctr5ievPxI&amp;t=1342s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previously talked</a> about how hard the divorce was on their kids.

Pop singer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kelly-clarkson">Kelly Clarkson</a> recently discussed the conversation she had with her doctor which prompted her to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/obesity">lose weight</a>.
The 41-year-old made the revelation during a recent episode of her eponymous talk show while responding to guest Kevin James, who mentioned how great she was looking.
“Well, I was told I was pre-diabetic,” Clarkson responded with a laugh, per <a href="https://people.com/kelly-clarkson-says-pre-diabetic-diagnosis-prompted-her-weight-loss-8555725">People</a>. “That’s literally what happened… and well, I wasn’t shocked. I was a tiny bit overweight.”
“But I wasn’t shocked by it,” the “Because of You” singer added. “They were like, ‘You’re pre-diabetic. You’re right on the borderline.’ And I was like, ‘But I&#8217;m not there yet.’ And then I waited two years and then I was like OK, I’ll do something about it.”
Clarkson had previously spoken to People about how she achieved her <a href="https://www.today.com/health/kelly-clarkson-weight-loss-rcna131969">near 40 pound</a> weight loss, which she attributed to staying active and increasing her protein intake.
“We go walk the dogs a few times at the park. We&#8217;ll go for ice cream because my daughter will wear me down. We&#8217;ll go make slime and we go to the museum,”  the mom of two said, speaking of how she gets to exercise with her two children, 9-year-old River Rose and 7-year-old Remington Alexander.

Despite being overweight at different points during her career, Clarkson said it didn’t hinder her opportunities. “I got on the No. 1 television show at my heaviest point, because it was right after I had kids, and it was like they didn’t care,” Clarkson told <a href="https://www.today.com/series/love-your-body/i-can-t-compete-kelly-clarkson-being-body-shamed-t184435">Glamour UK</a> in 2020. 
“Paul (Telegdy, chairman of NBC Entertainment) hired me from NBC because he loved my personality, he loved that I connect with people and I’m really raw and real. It had nothing to do with my sex appeal or my look aesthetically. It had to do with me as a person. I think it’s really up to artists to force people to have that mentality.”

Singer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kelly-clarkson">Kelly Clarkson</a> is reflecting on her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/divorce">divorce</a> from Brandon Blackstock, saying she never wanted to get married in the first place and doesn’t believe love can be “forever.” 
“I’ve always known that love is hard,” the 41-year-old celebrity told <a href="https://people.com/kelly-clarkson-never-wanted-to-get-married-dating-sucks-exclusive-8421516">People</a>. “For me, love has always come with this elephant in the room of sadness. I’ve known love is not forever.&#8221;
&#8220;I don’t mean that to sound depressing, but I think we put a lot of pressure on that word,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Sometimes love is looking at someone and going, ‘This is not good for you. This is not good for me.’ That’s a hard thing to face. But when you do, I think you grow.”
Clarkson had two children with Blackstock and went through a lengthy custody battle with him. They were married for seven years before splitting in 2020. Their divorce was finalized in 2022.
The “Piece by Piece” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">singer</a> went on to say that while she’s willing to date again, she’s not interested in getting married a second time. 
“No. I never wanted to get married the first time,” she told the publication when asked about her future dating plans. “[Brandon] had children, a religious background, and it was important, I think, for him. But I’ve never been that person. Because I’ve been through a couple divorces in my family, I just don’t like to put any weight on it. It can happen; it doesn’t have to happen. For my kids, I definitely would never even think about it until they’re out of my house.”
Clarkson also discussed how challenging it’s been to be back in the dating pool post-divorce.
&#8220;Dating sucks. It’s so awkward,” she said. “I was single until I was, like, 30, and I forgot how really good at that I am. I told a friend [that a potential partner] would have to be an individual that brings their own life to the table without needing anything from me. It’s far more romantic to say, ‘I want you, but I don’t need anything.’ I’m really good right now, I’m having a good time.&#8221;
The “American Idol” season 1 winner also discussed how working on her new album, “Chemistry,” was an outlet for her emotions as she went through the divorce.

Clarkson also said the album’s release was equivalent to saying, “I’m taking my power back.”
“That sounds very therapy, but that’s because I love therapy, and I think it’s important to have those tools to navigate your life and relationships,” she added.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kelly-clarkson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kelly Clarkson</a>&#8216;s ex-husband Brandon Blackstock has been ordered to pay back the singer almost $3 million dollars in their ongoing legal battle after being found guilty of overcharging the singer on several of her contracts while acting as her manager.
The California Labor Commission found that Blackstock unlawfully procured business deals for Clarkson as her manager, such as her landing the hosting gig for the Billboard Music Awards and her role as a judge on &#8220;The Voice,&#8221; according to legal documents obtained by <a href="https://people.com/kelly-clarkson-ex-brandon-blackstock-must-pay-her-over-2-million-8409238" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a>.
The commission ordered Blackstock to pay the Grammy Award-winning artist $2,641,374 for overstepping his role in deals that it said could have only been handled by a licensed agent.
The commission&#8217;s ruling found Blackstock crossed the line for her contracts for the music awards, the TV reality competition spot, Norwegian cruise and Wayfair. However, it didn&#8217;t agree that Blackstock had when it came to her landing the contract for &#8220;The Kelly Clarkson Show&#8221; and ruled that Blackstock will retain the earnings.

&#8220;Under the Talent Agencies Act (TAA), a manager, like any person without a talent agency license, cannot procure or attempt to procure employment for artists,&#8221; the <a href="https://www.etonline.com/kelly-clarksons-ex-husband-brandon-blackstock-overcharged-her-as-manager-ordered-to-return-millions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ruling read</a>.
Clarkson originally filed suit against her ex-husband claiming that he had secured the contract for these various jobs and took fees in return.

The documents showed that Clarkson&#8217;s ex-husband earned $1.98 million in commissions for her role as a judge on &#8220;The Voice&#8221; and that his commission for getting the host spot on the music awards was $93.30, <a href="https://www.etonline.com/kelly-clarksons-ex-husband-brandon-blackstock-overcharged-her-as-manager-ordered-to-return-millions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Entertainment Tonight</a> noted. Blackstock&#8217;s legal team has filed an appeal.
The ruling comes after Clarkson filed for divorce from Blackstock in June of 2020 following almost seven years of marriage together. Their divorce was finally official in 2022 after child and spousal support was settled, ET noted. Clarkson and Blackstock share two children together, daughter River Rose and son Remy.
In a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ctr5ievPxI&amp;t=1342s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recent interview</a>, the singer talked about how hard the divorce was on their kids.
&#8220;I literally ask my kids every night when we&#8217;re snuggling up in the bed: &#8216;Are you happy? And if you&#8217;re not, what could make you happier?'&#8221; Clarkson said. &#8220;A lot of times they&#8217;ll be like: &#8216;You know, I&#8217;m just really sad. I wish Mommy and Daddy were in the same house.'&#8221;
&#8216;They&#8217;re really honest about it,&#8221; she added. &#8220;I&#8217;m from a divorced family as well. It sucks.&#8221;

Clarkson suggested on X (Twitter at the time) that Swift should just re-record her songs.

“American Idol” winner <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kelly-clarkson">Kelly Clarkson</a> said she was shocked by allegations of a “toxic” work environment on the set of her popular <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tv">talk show</a>.
The 41-year-old <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">star</a> described her reaction to hearing about the alleged incidents as part of an exposé that was released in May. 
“I definitely was blindsided,” she told <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/kelly-clarkson-divorce-album-talk-show-drama-interview-1235521623/">The Hollywood Reporter</a> in a piece published Thursday. “But I think the important thing is, we get into this mindset of canceling everything or everyone. And that’s not unhealthy because it’s like, ‘OK then …’ Because what you’re saying is every time somebody says something, then it’s just over.”
Clarkson continued: “And that’s not how you work on things. You have to progress. You have to go, ‘Oh man, well, maybe we can do better at this. Obviously, we might have missed the mark here, so what can we do better?’”
The “Because of You” singer went on to discuss how the show moved from Los Angeles to New York, representing a fresh start for them. Clarkson said they were already working on ways to merge the New York team and the people coming from L.A. so there wasn’t division among them.
“I think that’s all that did for us is one, recognize: OK, there’s something wrong, maybe. I didn’t know when that first came out. So, how do we fix this? How do we be better and better examples? So we’re already doing that, and adding on to what we already had planned initially, just to make sure everybody feels included and a part of the team,” she continued.
The sources cited in the original report, which was published by <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/tv-movies/tv-movie-features/the-kelly-clarkson-show-toxic-behind-scenes-investigation-nbc-daytime-tv-hr-workplace-environment-1234732325/">Rolling Stone</a>, put most of the blame on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” executive producer Alexa Duda. Many of the anonymous staffers told the outlet that Clarkson herself likely didn’t know what was going on.
The staffers told Rolling Stone that the working environment was “traumatizing to their mental health.”
One employee said, “I remember going up on the roof of the stage to cry, being like, ‘Oh, my gosh, what am I doing? Why am I putting myself through this?&#8217;”
Another said, “I think Alex Duda’s a monster. I have a friend who’s an executive producer who warned me about taking this job, because apparently she has done this on every show she’s worked on.”

Clarkson later <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kelly-clarkson-breaks-silence-responds-to-toxic-work-environment-claims-on-her-talk-show">addressed the claims</a>, saying she didn’t know any of that was going on.
“In my 20 years in the entertainment industry, I’ve always led with my heart and what I believed to be right,” Clarkson wrote. “I love my team at The Kelly Clarkson Show, and to find out that anyone is feeling unheard and or disrespected on this show is unacceptable.”
“I have always been, and will continue to be, committed to creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment at The Kelly Clarkson Show,” she continued in the statement. “Part of that build will include leadership training for all of the senior staff, including myself. There is always room to grow and ensure we are all being/becoming the best version of ourselves in any business. Especially when it comes to leadership, to ensure that any notion of toxicity is eradicated.”

Grammy Award-winning recording artist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kelly-clarkson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kelly Clarkson</a> discussed the dissolution of her almost seven-year <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/marriage" target="_blank" rel="noopener">marriage</a>, alluding that it would have ended sooner if not for her “ego.”
The talk show host discussed what happened during an episode of Glennon Doyle’s “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clarkson</a> said she didn’t initially want to end things with Brandon Blackstock because she believed she could fix their broken relationship herself.
&#8220;I&#8217;m like, &#8216;I can do this. I can handle so much.&#8217; My ego is like, &#8216;I can control my actions. I can control my reactions. I can do this and I can reach this person and I can get through,'&#8221; the &#8220;Stronger&#8221; singer told Doyle. &#8220;It becomes a little bit of your ego that gets in the way.”
The “American Idol” winner filed for divorce from Blackstock in June 2020. The former couple shares joint custody of their children, daughter River Rose, 9, and son Remy, 7.
Clarkson, whose parents are divorced, said neither she nor Blackstone wanted their children to grow up with divorced parents. 
“We don’t want to do what we saw done,” she said. “I’m like, ‘I don’t want my kids to be those kids at school.’”
“When you come down to it, like daddy-daughter dances and you don’t have anyone show up,” Clarkson said. “You have to think of all those things.”
The “Because of You” composer relayed a quote from her therapist, saying, &#8220;It&#8217;s OK for (your kids) to see you struggling. That&#8217;s life.&#8221;
Clarkson also talked about how her relationship with Blackstock was her only serious romance. 
&#8220;I literally was like basically single until like 30 &#8230; I just mean like, real relationships, it&#8217;s really only him,&#8221; she told Doyle. &#8220;I&#8217;m pretty good at rocking life like a loner.&#8221;
Now she’s enjoying being single again, using the term “freeing” to describe her post-divorce perception of life.
&#8220;Sometimes it&#8217;s nice just to be alone and just in your own world and experiencing your own bliss,&#8221; she said.

“Anyone that’s been divorced [knows]. That was years in trying to make — not make it work, cause I never wanted to be part of something to make it work. I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it awesome. I wanted to make it everything it possibly could be, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.”
