Disgraced former Congresswoman Katie Hill has filed for bankruptcy after she unsuccessfully sued publications and journalists for publishing nude photographs of her while she was in office.
The bisexual former lawmaker sued the conservative website RedState, the British tabloid the Daily Mail, and journalists Jennifer Van Laar and Joe Messina after they published pictures of her brushing another woman&#8217;s hair while naked and holding a bong, <a href="https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2022-07-12/california-former-rep-katie-hill-who-lost-revenge-porn-lawsuit-files-for-bankruptcy">the Los Angles Times reported</a>.
If her filing for bankruptcy is successful, she could avoid paying the attorney&#8217;s fees to the defendants in the lawsuit, which a judge dismissed in 2021, the publication reported.
“It’s a broken system where a plaintiff’s sensible use of our legal system to adjudicate fundamental breaches to their sexual privacy results in such financially punishing consequences for daring to file a legal case that bankruptcy is the last resort,” Hill&#8217;s attorney Carrie Goldberg told the Los Angeles Times, claiming that Hill had no choice but to file for bankruptcy.

“Victims of cyber exploitation are being let down by our legal system, and I have gotten an unfortunately personal look at the damage that can do,” Hill tweeted. “I incurred substantial financial loss to fight this case because I believe it was my responsibility to do so to try to protect future victims of cyber exploitation.”
But Krista Lee Baughman, who represents the journalists that Hill sued, criticized the former congresswoman for attempting to &#8220;evade responsibility for her errors.”
&#8220;The bankruptcy process was not meant to enable privileged politicians with the means to earn revenue to evade the natural consequences of their intentional acts,&#8221; she said, the Los Angles Times reported. &#8220;We have questions about this filing, and we will be pursuing them in court.”
In 2019, Red State <a href="https://redstate.com/jenvanlaar/2019/10/18/ca-rep-katie-hill-allegedly-involved-female-staffer-2-yr-throuple-relationship-n117886">published stories</a> alleging that not only had Hill and her then-husband engaged in a sexual relationship with a female campaign staffer — the publication also alleged she was carrying on an affair with a subordinate.
Hill admitted the campaign worker relationship was inappropriate but said that she did not have an affair with a congressional staffer (this would be a violation of House rules).

When she resigned in 2019, Republicans regained her seat in a special election, and she filed her revenge porn lawsuit in 2020, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“So yeah it really hurt to have my old seat flip back to Republican-for a ton of people &amp; also for me,” Hill <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2020/05/18/katie-hill-mike-garcia-republicans-flipped-seat-california/">tweeted</a> after her seat flipped. “In fact, it was pretty f***ing devastating. I went offline &amp; cried for a few days but, as always, getting ready to stand back up &amp; keep fighting. Hope you are too.”
“Onward,” she added with a heart emoji.
Hill owes about $273,000 in attorney&#8217;s fees to the journalists and the parent companies that own the Daily Mail and Red State, the publication reports, noting that at one point she also owed her own attorneys $100,000.

Former Democratic Rep. Katie Hill, who resigned from Congress after admitting she and her husband had formed an inappropriate relationship with a young female staffer, has announced that she is pregnant — and the father is a journalist who acted as Hill’s foremost defender.
Hill stated that she is 21 weeks pregnant with a child she says she conceived with her current beau, Alex Thomas, the <a href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwiggsPF2d7zAhVPlGoFHRflCRUQFnoECAIQAQ&amp;url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.thedailybeast.com%2Fex-congresswoman-katie-hill-and-former-playboy-writer-alex-thomas-are-expecting-a-baby&amp;usg=AOvVaw1bwjYWByfKOGrNn3DyJBeh">former</a> political correspondent for Playboy magazine.

Hill told Vanity Fair that she considers this child a “miracle baby,” since a battle with endometriosis has left her with only one ovary.

A more revealing set of photos cost the scandal-plagued California Democrat her congressional seat in 2019. The Daily Mail, a U.K.-based newspaper, published photos that showed a nude Hill, who was 32 at the time, and her then-husband, Kenneth Heslep, with a 24-year-old campaign staffer named Morgan Desjardins. Some of the photographs showed Hill brushing the staffer’s hair and smoking a bong.
Desjardins described the relationship as “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-sex-scandal-worsens-staffer-felt-abused-in-toxic-relationship-consent-questions-emerge-report-says">toxic</a>” and told Hill, “I am terrified of pushing back against you or upsetting you.” Heslep described the throuple’s relationship as “abusive.” Aside from the relationship dynamics, many said the power and age differential between Hill and Desjardins made the relationship suspect.
“Katie Hill’s story — our story — is also one of workplace abuse and harassment,” wrote a group of “former staff” in a <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20201007053511/https:/twitter.com/RepKatieHill/status/1313703834603024384">series of tweets</a> posted on Hill’s Twitter feed. “Katie took advantage of her subordinates. She caused immense harm to the people who worked for her, many of whom were young women just beginning their careers in politics.”
Hill claimed that she is the victim of an “abusive” husband who set out to ruin her life with “revenge porn.”
Thomas sprang to Hill’s defense, adding a political element to the controversy by alleging that Hill had been targeted by the National Republican Congressional Committee’s vast right-wing conspiracy.
“The NRCC was shopping around the Katie Hill images and that they got them directly from right-wing radio host Joe Messina,” Thomas asserted in a <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20191030034354/https:/twitter.com/AlexThomasDC/status/1189381645671063558">since-deleted</a> tweet on October 29, 2019. But one day later, Thomas was forced to <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20191030034354/https:/twitter.com/AlexThomasDC/status/1189381645671063558">admit</a> that the NRCC “ never had their hands on the photos.” Ultimately, he ran the story in his personal newsletter rather than in Playboy.
At the time, Thomas did not disclose that he and Hill had already been dating for months. “The two had their first real interaction at the congressional softball game in June 2019,” Vanity Fair disclosed. The couple went public last February when they went out on a date to a <a href="https://pagesix.com/2020/02/29/ex-lawmaker-katie-hill-dating-playboy-writer-alex-thomas">Manhattan book party</a>, which was also attended by CNN’s Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy.
Vanity Fair’s profile, which does not mention Desjardins’ name, continues to present Hill’s side of the scandal. “Yes, Hill engaged in an inappropriate, arguably exploitative, relationship with a campaign staffer. But she was also a victim,” the magazine claims.
Hill sued the Daily Mail, RedState.com Managing Editor Jennifer Van Laar, and nationally syndicated radio host Joseph Messina for publishing nude photos without her consent, something that normally violates California state law. But in June, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco <a href="https://reason.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/HillvHeslep.pdf">ruled</a> that the photos had inherent news value and that Hill violated a different state law preventing people from filing lawsuits in order to stifle free speech. Judge Orozco ordered Hill to pay a total of $220,000 in attorneys’ fees to the conservative news outlets. Hill tells Vanity Fair that she “felt like there was a fundamental injustice here that happened and could only happen to a woman.”
Hill responded by attacking the journalistic integrity of her opponents, saying in April that she could not believe that a court declared that “a partisan blog is a news outlet.” Her attorney, Carrie Goldberg, snipes this week that Hill’s nude photos “were published by the mainstream media—if we want to call the Daily Mail that.” And Thomas grouses about the decision, saying, “You grow up thinking the good guys win … it’s just like, that’s not how the world works.”
Vanity Fair describes Hill as “deflated,” noting that “Hill—broke and without a steady paycheck—is considering bankruptcy.” Hill says she plans to tend to her political action committee, Her Time, and Vanity Fair reports that she is “working behind the scenes to shepherd legislation that would make the sharing of nonconsensual pornography a federal crime.”
“That’s what’s going to get me through the next year,” Hill says. “Then I guess by November, next year, after the midterms, I can kind of take stock again” about whether she wants to run for her old congressional seat, which is now held by Republican Mike Garcia.
Despite credible claims of sexual harassment, the legacy media have kept Hill visible and gently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/3-democrats-the-media-are-thirsty-to-have-back-in-politics">prodded her to run for office</a> again. After pressing Hill numerous times about her political plans, CNN’s Brianna Keilar said in June, “We will keep asking.” Two months later, MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-msnbc-asks-congresswoman-accused-of-sexual-harassment-how-to-solve-cuomos-sexual-harassment">asked</a> Hill to comment on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-fall-of-andrew-cuomo-how-an-empire-built-on-fear-came-crashing-down">Governor Andrew Cuomo</a>’s resignation would “move us forward” toward realizing the goals of the #MeToo movement. Neither asked Hill about her own purportedly abusive behavior.
Vanity Fair did not ask about the propriety of Thomas staging a public defense of Hill without acknowledging their romantic relationship.
&#8220;It&#8217;s baffling that someone who has sex with the subject of his glowing puff piece articles making now-retracted accusations against our organization is a credentialed member of the press,&#8221; a spokesman for the NRCC <a href="https://freebeacon.com/media/journalist-who-defended-katie-hill-failed-to-disclose-he-dated-her/">told</a> the Washington Free Beacon shortly after Hill <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2020/03/katie-hill-scandal-aftermath.html">confirmed</a> that she and Thomas began dating mid-2019. &#8220;This is a sad day for proponents of journalistic ethics along with those who read Playboy for the articles.&#8221;

To analyze New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s resignation over numerous sexual harassment claims, a left-wing cable news network turned to a Democrat accused of sexual harassment.
MSNBC interviewed former Congresswoman Katie Hill (D-CA) on Tuesday’s episode of “All In with Chris Hayes.”
Guest host Mehdi Hasan said Cuomo’s decision to quit before state legislators initiated impeachment proceedings proved that Democrats hold higher standards for politicians accused of sexual impropriety.
“Today is a sad day for the Democratic Party,” said Hasan. “But you could say it’s a sadder day for American democracy, because it’s a reminder that there are only consequences, there is only accountability, for Democrats in our system, not for Republicans.”
He then turned to Hill, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-democrat-katie-hill-is-resigning-amid-allegations-of-sexual-relationships-with-staffers-report-says">stepped down</a> during her first term in the House of Representatives after photographs proved that she and her husband had a sex-and-drugs-fueled “throuple” with a 22-year-old female staffer.
The subordinate, Morgan Desjardin, texted Hill’s then-husband, Kenneth Heslep, that she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-sex-scandal-worsens-staffer-felt-abused-in-toxic-relationship-consent-questions-emerge-report-says">worried</a> Hill “can ruin politics, take all my friends, and isolate me.” She said their relationship had become “toxic.” Heslep, in turn, said that he and Hill had treated her with “abusive” behavior.
Hasan asked Hill how to best advance the cause of women being treated fairly by their political bosses.
“Katie, you have a unique perspective on this, given the way you ended up resigning from Congress,” said Hasan.“Where are we now in terms of the #MeToo Movement, in terms of standing up to sexual misconduct in public life? Did today move us forward?”
Hill said “it’s not enough” for Cuomo to leave office voluntarily. “We have to recognize is that harassment of women is an extension of violence against women. And that`s a much more pervasive problem.”
Lawmakers must “do something basic like pass the <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/2021/04/dont-buy-the-deceptive-marketing-of-the-violence-against-women-act/">Violence Against Women Act</a>,” she said.
Hasan asked what Hill thought of the alleged “Republican double standard when it comes to holding their bad actors accountable.”
Hill agreed that “there is absolutely no comparison” between the parties, adding that she resigned from Congress purely out of personal integrity. “It was my own decision. It wasn’t people who were calling for it.” In reality, her <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2019/10/22/katie-hill-resign-staffer-affair-photos/">challenger</a> and many constituents had called on her to resign; she faced a House Ethics Committee investigation over the improper relationship; and news had broken that Hill had paid Desjardins <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/news/rep-katie-hill-paid-female-lover-thousands-of-dollars-in-consulting-fees">hundreds of thousands of dollars</a> in campaign donations as a consultant.
“I think that there’s is an inherent tendency to protect people in power,” Hill told Hasan on Tuesday. “We have to constantly be on the lookout [to ask], ‘Are we holding ourselves accountable?’”
Since leaving office, Hill has consistently said her promising political career had been cut short by “biphobia,” “Republican operatives,” and “an abusive husband who seems determined to try to humiliate me.”
She sued three conservative news outlets, including the UK’s Daily Mail, for publishing nude photographs that established her affair with Desjardins. But Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco did not believe the photos constituted “revenge porn” and ordered Hill to pay the outlets approximately <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-democratic-ex-congresswoman-in-throuple-must-pay-conservative-newspaper-105k-after-lawsuit-backfires">$220,000</a> in attorney fees.
Hill’s former staffers also reportedly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-staff-hijacks-democrat-katie-hills-gov-twitter-account-accuses-her-of-abuse-not-a-hero-for-women">rejected</a> her story. “Former staff” apparently took over Hill’s official Twitter account as the scandal broke, posting a <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20201007053511/https:/twitter.com/RepKatieHill/status/1313703834603024384">series of tweets</a> casting Hill as an abuser.
“Katie Hill’s story — our story — is also one of workplace abuse and harassment,” they wrote. “Katie took advantage of her subordinates. She caused immense harm to the people who worked for her, many of whom were young women just beginning their careers in politics.”
“In order to advance the #MeToo movement, we must be willing to acknowledge the problematic behaviors among those in our own communities. Only then will we see true progress,” they wrote.
But the circumstances of Hill’s resignation have not kept her from becoming <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/3-democrats-the-media-are-thirsty-to-have-back-in-politics">a fixture on left-wing cable news networks</a> MSNBC and CNN, where fawning hosts have often encouraged her to get back into politics. In June the host of CNN’s “New Day,” Brianna Keilar, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/3-democrats-the-media-are-thirsty-to-have-back-in-politics">asked</a> Hill “Will you run again?” When Hill evaded the question, Keilar responded, “We will keep asking.”

One day, we may look back and dub this month in cable news history “the return of the pervert,” as CNN and MSNBC welcomed back commentators and contributors accused of sexual harassment or other carnal improprieties to their airwaves. Abusing their position to obtain sexual favors, exposing themselves, or racking up a years-long history of inappropriate comments to female guests and co-workers could not stand in the way of Leftists’ return to the class of punditry.
Everyone from former Rep. Katie Hill (D, naturally, CA), to Jeffrey Toobin, to Chris Matthews have shaken off the muck of scandal and plunged into the ranks of cable news talking heads.
Katie Hill’s “throuple” with a young staffer exploded into public view after the Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-democratic-ex-congresswoman-in-throuple-must-pay-conservative-newspaper-105k-after-lawsuit-backfires">published photos</a> of Hill and her then-husband pawing a woman roughly half her age. The power differential between Hill and the employee raised questions of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-sex-scandal-worsens-staffer-felt-abused-in-toxic-relationship-consent-questions-emerge-report-says">sexual harassment</a> in the age of #MeToo. Still, CNN not only invited Hill, who spent less than a year in Congress, to offer commentary on a subject about which she clearly had no expertise, but CNN host Brianna Keilar <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/3-democrats-the-media-are-thirsty-to-have-back-in-politics">practically begged her</a> to return to politics.
Meanwhile at MSNBC, Joy Reid <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-did-something-wrong-chris-matthews-explains-his-abrupt-departure-from-msnbc">ushered</a> her predecessor, Chris Matthews — who faced amorphous-yet-sustained charges of making inappropriate comments to female guests — back into his old time slot as a political commentator earlier this month. Days later, “Deadline White House” host Nicolle Wallace introduced “my friend, Chris Matthews” to her viewers. (He went on to say that Donald Trump “is up there with Benedict Arnold right now.”)
Most conspicuous by his on-air presence was former CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, whom CNN jerked back onto the airwaves after a suspension for exposing himself while masturbating during a Zoom call with fellow employees at The New Yorker magazine. “Look, if you can’t recover from masturbating on a Zoom in front of colleagues, is this even America anymore?” <a href="https://twitter.com/curtmills/status/1403191579310018561">quipped</a> Curt Mills of The American Conservative. Fellow CNN hack Ana Navarro covered Toobin (which is more than Toobin ever did), <a href="https://www.theblaze.com/news/ana-navarro-defends-jeffrey-toobin">telling</a> “The View” that her colleague “didn&#8217;t have the intent to sexually harass somebody. He was sexually harassing himself maybe.” But flashing your penis in front of co-workers would fall well within the sexual harassment guidelines of any business. If a work-from-home employee accidentally exposed himself in front of others on a Zoom call during the pandemic, it is inconceivable that he would remain employed by the end of the day. The double standards of the left-of-center chattering class hardly confine themselves to sex, as Chris Cuomo’s continued tenure at CNN proves.
While Leftists get an endless stream of waivers, exemptions, and second-chances, conservatives get a pink slip. The lowest-rated cable news network has canceled its contract with every conservative commentator who didn’t vote for Joe Biden — which is to say, every conservative commentator. It fired Jeffrey Lord because Lord, who is Jewish, used the phrase “Sieg Heil” on social media; it now refers to disagreements about the 2020 election as “The Big Lie” every 10 minutes.
CNN hired, then <a href="https://thehill.com/media/369685-trump-supporter-ed-martin-out-at-cnn-after-4-month-stint">fired</a>, conservative commentator Ed Martin, who hosts the “<a href="https://www.phyllisschlafly.com/category/ed-martin-movement-radio/">Pro-America Report</a>” on the radio, within four months in 2017. While he held the position, Martin offended the network by <a href="https://www.salon.com/2017/10/02/new-cnn-contributor-ed-martin-said-failing-cnn-is-fake-news_partner/">not changing</a> his views — something Ana Navarro could not defend. She once <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnns-ana-navarro-loses-it-on-ed-martin-i-barely-know-your-name-i-have-no-idea-who-you-are/">exploded</a> at Martin, “I barely know your name; I have no idea who you are. I never insult you.” At the time of his hiring, Lord <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/conservative-ed-martin-as-cnn-contributor-1075782/">called</a> Martin a “smart guy” who “will say things that go against the grain. After a while it will add up, and there will surely be those pushing to get rid of him.”
His prediction underlines that the only relevant factor in the networks’ HR decisions is the approval of the network’s uniformly Leftist hosts. Brian Stelter <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/10/media/jeffrey-toobin-returns-cnn/index.html">explained</a> that Toobin came back to CNN, because “[s]ome anchors and hosts at CNN” had “expressed a desire to have Toobin back on their shows, since he has been a leading legal voice on television for decades.” But why did former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rick-santorums-firing-proves-cnn-doesnt-want-to-hear-anyone-who-sounds-like-you">Senator Rick Santorum</a> get the boot at the network? A “CNN senior executive” told HuffPost that CNN took Santorum off the payroll, because “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-fires-rick-santorum-after-he-claimed-founding-fathers-birthed-a-nation-from-nothing">none of the anchors wanted to book him</a>, so he was essentially benched, anyway.”
While welcoming Toobin back to the air, Alisyn Camerota warmly said, “Jeffrey, many of us have really missed having <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jeffrey-toobin-scotus-decides-christians-dont-have-to-follow-the-laws-that-everyone-else-has-to">your legal analysis</a> to guide us on our programs, so let me be the first to welcome you back.” Who will be the first to welcome back Santorum, Martin, Lord, Lewandowski, or anyone outside the ACELA Corridor with the temerity to say that 74 million Republican voters were not motivated by racial bias against … Joe Biden?
CNN insiders say subjectivity is the entire point: The network deliberately maintains <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-cnn-employee-says-outlet-has-no-real-ethical-code">vague ethical standards</a>, so that it can apply them selectively based on the person’s political ideology. “You won’t see any rules that are etched in stone so that a violation could be a firing offense,” said Steve Holmes, who worked at CNN for more than a decade. “They can’t say that [Cuomo]’s violated any written policies because there aren’t any, period.”
It’s not just a double standard. It’s not merely bias. It’s the networks’ conscious moral decision that the acceptance, much less the expression, of conservative thought is worse than sexually boorish or utterly inappropriate actions; that Judeo-Christian morality is immoral and more sullying than the sexually motivated abuse of power, indecent exposure, or violating (admittedly ill-defined and ever-shifting) standards that make females express discomfort. But then any movement promoting transgenderism has long ago dispensed with the importance of women’s feelings and safety. This was visible in a media that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/left-goes-nuts-over-reports-pence-will-only-eat-hank-berrien">mocked</a> Mike Pence for refusing to have dinner alone with a member of the opposite sex, then <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harris-is-co-hosting-a-womens-empowerment-event-with-bill-clinton-womens-groups-have-said-nothing">remained silent</a> as newly elected Vice President Kamala Harris co-hosted an event on “empowering women and girls” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harris-to-go-one-on-one-with-bill-clinton-on-empowering-women-attend-event-with-ties-to-anti-semite">with Bill Clinton</a>.
The media have adopted the inversion of Western morality. They have brought about what German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche <a href="https://www.gutenberg.org/files/19322/19322-h/19322-h.htm">called</a> “[t]he transvaluation of Christian values — an attempt with all available means, all instincts and all the resources of genius to bring about a triumph of the opposite values, the more noble values.” In his book appropriately titled The Antichrist, he wrote, “This has been the one great war of the past; there has never been a more critical question.”
The reemergence of Toobin, Hill, and others indicate that the media want to fight that war with as many allies as possible.

The media are so invested in supporting the Democratic Party that they treat every election lost by a Democrat as a violation of the laws of nature. The networks believe that truth and reality so align with the views of the Left that their rejection constitutes an assault on democracy, fueled by “big money” or foreign disinformation.
It makes no difference whether voters repudiated the candidate’s far-Left agenda or if the incumbent left office under a cloud of sex scandals and corruption. Whenever a Democrat is forced out of office, legacy news outlets keep them visible, viable, and employed until they can reclaim their rightful place in the halls of power.
The legacy media have done this three times in the last week alone:
<h4>Fmr. Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA)</h4>
For most of her career, the media lavished Katie Hill with positive coverage for two reasons: She <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/11/08/katie-hill-wins-california-25th-house-district-over-rep-steve-knight.html">flipped</a> a Republican seat blue, and she was the first openly bisexual woman to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Then, her scandalous relationship with a young staffer became public, Hill resigned, and Republican Mike Garcia <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/california-republican-mike-garcia-declares-victory-in-democrat-katie-hills-former-district">reclaimed the district</a> for the GOP.
In the media’s universe, this cannot be allowed to continue — so CNN urged Hill to run for Congress again on Monday.
CNN’s “New Day” putatively invited Hill to comment on the president spying on members of Congress. (They could have asked members of the <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2015/02/the-cia-lawyer-who-led-efforts-to-spy-on-the-senate/385286/">Senate Intelligence Committee</a>, who were spied on by the Obama administration.)
Along the way, Brianna Keilar sidestepped a series of sexual harassment landmines. Mediaite <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tv/cnns-brianna-keilar-practically-begs-katie-hill-to-return-to-congress-at-end-of-flattering-interview/">reported</a> that CNN left out the fact that then-Congresswoman “<a href="https://www.mediaite.com/tag/katie-hill/">Katie Hill</a> and her husband had an inappropriate and possibly abusive sexual relationship with a very young female employee, as well as an <a href="https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11481038/katie-hill-staffer-congress-alleged-lover-suicidal-scandal/">affair</a> with a male staffer and, after the affairs were exposed, it was also revealed that she <a href="https://freebeacon.com/media/journalist-who-defended-katie-hill-failed-to-disclose-he-dated-her/">was dating</a> a Playboy journalist who was leading the media charge against the blog RedState, which broke the story, and British tabloid Daily Mail and two of its reporters over their reporting.” Keilar “mentioned #MeToo without the context (CNN is big on context) that former staffers for Katie Hill took over her Twitter account <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/politics/metoo-katie-hills-alleged-former-staff-take-over-twitter-account-to-accuse-her-of-workplace-abuse/">just a few months ago to expose</a> what they referred to as a ‘toxic’ environment and ‘workplace abuse’ under Hill, specifically citing the #MeToo movement among the many charges.”
Keilar concluded the interview with numerous prompts to please return to public life.
“Before I let you go, will you run again?” she asked. When Hill replied with less than full agreement, Keilar pressed whether her interest in public policy “make[s] you want to get back in the arena?” When Hill remained non-committal, Keilar closed, “We will keep asking.” Co-host John Berman smiled as he noted Hill’s answer was “not a no.”
<h4>Fmr. Rep. Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke (D-TX)</h4>
Republicans have had a hammerlock on once-blue Texas since the late Ann Richards left the governor’s office in 1995. But with positive media coverage and a <a href="https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2018/12/07/how-much-of-the-record-80-million-beto-o-rourke-raised-to-beat-ted-cruz-is-left-for-another-run/">record-breaking $80 million</a> in campaign cash, Beto O’Rourke <a href="https://www.politico.com/election-results/2018/texas/senate/">came tantalizingly close</a> to winning Ted Cruz’s Senate seat in 2018. He then failed to gain traction in the 2020 Democratic presidential primaries, despite endorsing the confiscation of all AR-15s, the nation’s most popular rifle.
On Sunday, MSNBC’s Mehdi Hasan asked O’Rourke, “Will you be running for governor of Texas, as a lot of reports suggest, against Greg Abbott next year?” O’Rourke r<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/beto-orourke-hasnt-ruled-out-texas-governor-run-report-says">esponded</a>, “I’m going to see this fight through to the finish, and then after that I&#8217;m going to see how I can serve Texas, either as a candidate or supporting candidates. One way or the other, I’m in for the finish for Texas.”

Hasan did not point out that O’Rourke is free to run for office because President Joe Biden broke an apparent campaign promise to appoint him to a federal office. After O’Rourke endorsed Biden, the future president <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/mar/3/joe-biden-beto-orourke-lead-gun-control-push/">promised</a> him, “You’re going to take care of the gun problem with me. You’re going to be the one who leads this effort.”
If Beto O’Rourke runs and loses, he’ll have completed a rare trifecta: losing races for U.S. Senate, governor, and president.
<h4>Stacey Abrams</h4>
Since refusing to concede that she lost her race for governor of Georgia in 2018, Stacey Abrams has failed upward into consideration as Joe Biden’s running mate and a host of other offices. She has also become a fixture on legacy media networks.
On Monday, MSNBC’s Joy Reid <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/transcripts/transcript-reidout-6-14-21-n1270859">invited</a> Abrams to discuss her support of H.R. 1 on “The ReidOut.” On Thursday morning, she was on CNN’s “New Day” to discuss Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) and to <a href="http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/2106/17/nday.06.html">assail</a> Republicans “who refuse to acknowledge the truth of our eyes.” Late last month, Lawrence O’Donnell interviewed Abrams while <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/transcripts/transcript-last-word-lawrence-o-donnell-5-20-21-n1268115">promoting</a> her newest novel, While Justice Sleeps.
None of the reporters asked Abrams about her plans to run for office — because she has never left any doubt about her national ambition. CBS News floated the idea of President Abrams just last month.
“Ensuring that right to vote may someday help Abrams achieve her greatest dream: running for president,” <a href="https://youtu.be/lj0-ZoyWWGw?t=426">said</a> Erin Moriarty on the May 9 episode of “CBS Sunday Morning.” Abrams replied, “When someone asks me if that’s my ambition, I have a responsibility to say yes for every young woman, every person of color, every young person of color who sees me and decides what they are capable of based on what I think I’m capable of.”

These three are hardly the only perpetual candidates and also-rans the media long to shove down their audiences’ collective throat. Left-leaning cable news networks are well into their second year of rehabilitating former Senator Al Franken (D-MN). Reporters routinely genuflected to non-candidate Chelsea Clinton for years, until her mother’s 2016 presidential loss reduced the members of the Clinton political dynasty to one. The legacy media enthused over another <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/failed-texas-gov-candidate-wendy-davis-announces-ashe-schow">Texas Democratic loser</a>, Wendy Davis, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/wendy-davis-invokes-god-push-abortion-amanda-prestigiacomo">abortion extremist</a> who lost a Texas two-step by basing her respective <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/greg-abbott-defeats-davis-elected-texas-governor">campaigns for governor</a> and <a href="https://www.expressnews.com/news/local/politics/electionresults/us_house_by_texas_county/article/U-S-Rep-Chip-Roy-Wendy-Davis-neck-and-neck-for-15699462.php">Congress</a> on her filibuster to preserve late-term abortion. (This was apparently before the filibuster was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elizabeth-warren-says-the-filibuster-is-racist-here-are-three-times-shes-used-it-herself">racist</a> and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-filibuster-is-sinful-left-wing-minister-questions-joe-manchins-faith">sinful</a>.) And Geraldine Ferraro rode her 49-state blowout in the 1984 presidential election to a <a href="https://greensboro.com/geraldine-ferraro-caught-in-crossfire/article_fa8133c6-dcfc-56b9-8169-7e4f66c5cc40.html">media career</a>.
The legacy media, which refuses to accept any Democratic loss, acts as a holding tank for the party’s losers to recover between innings.

On Monday, after having attempted to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cnn-welcomes-back-legal-analyst-who-left-after-masturbating-on-zoom-call">rehabilitate legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin</a> last week after he had left the network in disgrace last fall for having masturbated live on a Zoom call, CNN launched another attempt to rehabilitate another fallen spokesperson for the left-wing agenda, disgraced former congresswoman Katie Hill.
Only ten days ago, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ca-state-wire-business-technology-government-and-politics-74199c36f482660d260ca23614858ce9">The Associated Press</a> (AP) reported that Hill had been ordered to pay a total of roughly $220,000 in attorneys’ fees to the Daily Mail, Red State managing editor Jennifer Van Laar, and radio producer Joseph Messina. Hill had filed a lawsuit after photos of her in the nude were published, but it was rejected on First Amendment grounds, <a href="https://www.latimes.com/politics/story/2021-06-02/katie-hill-attorneys-fees-revenge-porn?utm_id=30470&amp;sfmc_id=1694441">the Los Angeles Times reported.</a>
“<a href="https://apnews.com/article/1b4b3755a7124b029440e8513e981929">Hill resigned in 2019 </a>after the publication of the photos and amid a House ethics probe into allegations of an inappropriate sexual relationship with one of her congressional staffers, which she denied,” AP noted.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco said Hill would have to pay roughly $105,000 to the parent company of the Daily Mail, about $84,000 to the attorneys of Van Laar, and roughly $30,000 to lawyers representing Joseph Messina.
Hill has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-mocks-rush-limbaugh-blowback-ensues">mocked the late Rush Limbaugh</a> being awarded the Medal of Freedom, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraced-former-congresswoman-katie-hill-mocks-coney-barretts-clothes-conservative-social-media-wrecks-her">mocked Supreme Court Justice</a> Amy Coney Barrett&#8217;s clothing, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-unapologetic-katie-hill-blames-right-wing-media-for-her-downfall-in-new-video">blamed</a> “right-wing media” for her fall from grace after she resigned from the House when it was revealed she had engaged in an improper sexual relationship with one of her congressional staffers.
On Monday, CNN’s Brianna Keilar questioned Hill about her current work before gushing, “Before I let you go, will you run again?”
“Listen, I haven’t written anything off; the last two years, well, year and a half have been really, you know, tragic and important for my family and for me in terms of figuring out what the next steps are,” Hill replied. “And right now, I need to figure out my role in making sure this gets passed, helping women run for and get elected to office and the work that we’re doing with Her Time is supporting candidates, supporting incumbents, and ultimately, 2022, we have to hold the House. Everyone needs to remember that. All of this work we’ve done before; all of the frustrations around ‘We’re not getting as much done as we want to; the Senate is holding us up because of the filibuster, literally not of that will matter —’”
Keilar persisted, “But doesn’t that make you want to get back in the arena?”
“Sometimes,” Hill answered. “But sometimes I wonder maybe my role is more important on the outside. So I’m still definitely on that, kind of, figuring it out piece, and at the same time we’ve got redistricting happening. There’s six months probably to go before we know what these districts are going to look like and what districts are going to be competitive. Mine, the one that I ran in before, might not even be a competitive district, so my attention might need to be elsewhere to do what I can to protect the majority. I got time to decide and a lot of legal battles and legal debt to go in the meantime.”
Keilar, still pressing, concluded, “All right. Well, we will keep asking, Congresswoman.”

After Rescuing Jeffrey Toobin, CNN Tries Resurrecting Disgraced Katie Hill’s Career

A former Democratic congresswoman has to pay a conservative newspaper more than $100,000 in legal fees after she sued the outlet for publishing nude photos that exposed her bisexual relationship with her then-husband and a female staffer.
In all, former Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/katie-hill">Katie Hill</a> (D-CA) has been ordered to pay approximately $220,000 in attorney fees to three conservative news outlets after her lawsuits backfired.
Hill had been a rising star in the Democratic Party after flipping a Republican congressional seat during the 2018 “blue wave,” but a personal undertow soon pulled her political career out to sea.
In October 2019, the U.K.-based newspaper the Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7609835/Katie-Hill-seen-showing-Nazi-era-tattoo-smoking-BONG-NAKED.html">published</a> pictures showing Hill, her then-husband Kenneth Heslep, and Morgan Desjardins in various compromising positions and stages of undress. The photos — some of which the couple reportedly posted online in 2016 — showed Hill brushing the staffer’s hair and smoking a bong.
Hill, who is now 33 years old, eventually confessed that the trio had formed a “throuple” after Desjardins joined the congresswoman’s campaign staff in 2017. She told a media outlet that she initially planned to “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-admits-she-planned-to-lie-about-throuple-relationship-before-scandal-blew-up">just deny it</a>” when first asked about the allegations of her affair.
The photos that accompanied the story were said to have made their way into the press after Hill broke off the relationship with both parties, telling them she wanted to focus on her work. But Hill <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-staffers-allegedly-confirmed-katie-hills-affair-with-legislative-director-reportedly-leading-pelosi-to-demand-resignation">reportedly</a> had another affair with her legislative director, Graham Kelly; Hill still denies the affair.
Hill sued the Daily Mail, Red State writer Jennifer Van Laar, and nationally syndicated radio host Joseph Messina. Her case against Daily Mail contended that the pictures constituted illegal “revenge porn,” and that the paper didn’t have to publish the pictures themselves, because it could have simply described the photos to its readers.
Hill also apparently took issue with the idea that conservative opinion writers should enjoy equal First Amendment rights with the legacy media.
“A partisan blog is a news outlet, according to this” initial ruling, Hill <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1whkjeU76Eo">told</a> MSNBC in April. “That can’t be acceptable.”
But Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Orozco <a href="https://reason.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/04/HillvHeslep.pdf">ruled</a> that the media had every legal right to publish Hill&#8217;s nude photos, because the law makes an exception for private pictures that fall within the public interest:
<blockquote>Section 1708.85(c)(5) provides for an exception from liability for images which are a matter of public concern. Here, Defendant has established that the images are a matter of public concern, as they speak to Plaintiff&#8217;s character and qualifications for her position as a Congresswoman, allegedly depicting an extramarital sexual relationship with a paid campaign staff member, the use of illegal drugs by a sitting Congresswoman, and a tattoo similar to the symbols formerly used by white supremacists.</blockquote>
On Wednesday, Orozco ordered Hill to pay the Daily Mail <a href="https://www.courthousenews.com/katie-hill-owes-daily-mail-105k-for-attorney-fees-in-nude-photo-fight/">$104,747.75</a> in attorney fees.
Hill ended up having to shoulder the substantial legal costs triggered by her lawsuits due to an anti-SLAPP law. The acronym “SLAPP” is short for “Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation” and describes litigation intended only to shut down public scrutiny.
“SLAPPs have become an all-too-common tool for intimidating and silencing criticism through expensive, baseless legal proceedings,” <a href="https://www.rcfp.org/resources/anti-slapp-laws/">explains</a> the Reporters Committee for a Free Press.
Many such laws require that, if such a lawsuit fails, the plaintiff has to pay the costs that the baseless litigation imposed on the defendants.
Hill had previously been <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-9648243/Former-Rep-Katie-Hill-ordered-pay-DailyMail-coms-105-000-legal-fees-judge-tossed-suit.html">ordered</a> to pay approximately $84,000 to Van Laar and $30,000 to Messina under the same legal rubric, according to the Daily Mail.
Hill responded by asking her followers to help foot the bill.
“A judge just ordered me to PAY the Daily Mail more than $100k for the privilege of them publishing nude photos of me obtained from an abuser. The justice system is broken for victims,” Hill <a href="https://twitter.com/katiehill4ca/status/1400135397011869697">posted</a> on social media.
“Our fight continues &#8211; please chip in if you can,” she wrote, linking to a crowdfunding page run by the Brooklyn-based C.A. Goldberg law firm.

Her formerly Republican seat reverted to the GOP during a special election in May 2020, when <a href="https://mikegarcia.house.gov/">Mike Garcia</a> <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-on-gop-winning-her-former-congressional-seat-pretty-fing-devastating">won</a> the district — a flip Hill called “pretty f***ing devastating.”
Many have accused Hill of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-staff-hijacks-democrat-katie-hills-gov-twitter-account-accuses-her-of-abuse-not-a-hero-for-women">abusing</a> her position of authority for her own sexual gratification.

The comment elicited blowback from conservatives who pointed out two recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom from former President Obama.

When Limbaugh returned to his radio show later that week, he offered some of the backstory about his appearance at the SOTU:

I never have cared, and I’m not gonna start caring now what they say. One of the reasons I was reluctant was I just wasn’t sure I deserved this. I mean, it’s the highest civilian honor that the country awards.
It’s the exact same award that Congress gives, the Congressional Medal of Honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, it’s the exact same thing. There are different requirements. Military people who qualify are awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor with sometimes a ceremony at the White House. But this is the Presidential Medal of Freedom. ‘Worst Person To Ever Receive Presidential Medal Of Freedom’: Katie Hill Mocks Rush Limbaugh; Blowback Ensues

On Tuesday, disgraced former Congresswoman Katie Hill, who resigned in late October 2019 after allegations of sexual impropriety with a staffer came to light, weighed in on Judge Amy Coney Barrett’s clothes at Barrett’s confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court, tweeting, &#8220;I hate to be someone who judges women on their clothes but I&#8217;m sorry ACB&#8217;s outfits are all way too handsmaid-y.”
The temerity of Hill, who was <a href="https://dw-site-staging.dailywire.com/news/report-staffers-allegedly-confirmed-katie-hills-affair-with-legislative-director-reportedly-leading-pelosi-to-demand-resignation">reportedly told to resign</a> by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), commenting on Barrett’s modest attire had its comedic appeal, since Hill long ago admitted to having an &#8220;inappropriate&#8221; sexual affair with a young female campaign staffer after explicit photographic evidence of the affair was released online, and a “British tabloid published intimate photos of her allegedly showing her holding a bong while naked, as <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/27/rep-katie-hill-to-resign-amid-allegations-of-inappropriate-relationships-with-staffers-000301">Politico</a> noted.
In March 2020, Hill admitted to New York magazine that she was planning on lying about the adulterous sexual relationship with her then-campaign staffer, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/katie-hill-admits-she-planned-to-lie-about-throuple-relationship-before-scandal-blew-up">The Daily Wire</a> reported. She discussed her &#8220;throuple&#8221; relationship with the then-staffer and her then-husband, claiming her initial plan was to &#8220;just deny it …You know, honestly, it was one of those things where it was like, Well, I&#8217;ll just deny it,&#8221; as <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2020/03/katie-hill-scandal-aftermath.html">The Cut</a> reported. &#8220;[My former campaign staffer] is not accusing me of anything. She doesn&#8217;t want it to come out any more than I do.&#8221;

Hill told Moscatello, &#8220;I had to admit that, yes, I had this relationship with a campaign staffer. So, you know, I’ve admitted to that. And once you’ve admitted to that one thing, then it brings everything else into question.&#8221;
Pelosi issued a brief <a href="https://www.speaker.gov/newsroom/102719-2">statement</a> at the time of Hill&#8217;s resignation, which included, &#8220;She has acknowledged errors in judgment that made her continued service as a Member untenable. We must ensure a climate of integrity and dignity in the Congress, and in all workplaces.&#8221;

Disgraced Former Congresswoman Katie Hill Mocks Coney Barrett’s Clothes. Conservative Social Media Wrecks Her.

Someone claiming to be &#8220;former staff&#8221; of former Rep. Katie Hill (D-CA) posted messages to her official government Twitter account to accuse her of &#8220;abuse&#8221; after news broke this week that actress Elisabeth Moss would star as Hill in a TV series highlighting her rise and fall in politics.
The movie is based on Hill&#8217;s forthcoming book, which &#8220;recounts her experience as a young woman with no prior political experience whose charm, and common sense won over the people in her district and thrust her into the halls of power in Washington,&#8221; Variety <a href="https://variety.com/2020/tv/news/elisabeth-moss-congresswoman-katie-hill-blumhouse-tv-streaming-film-1234794835/">reported</a>. &#8220;While her brash confidence won her powerful allies and infuriated her enemies, it was privately concealing a cycle of domestic abuse she was trapped in at home, infamously culminating in the release of intimate photos and the revelation of her own admitted personal mistakes that would eventually result in her stunning fall from grace.&#8221;
Late on Tuesday night, a series of <a href="http://web.archive.org/web/20201007053511/https://twitter.com/RepKatieHill/status/1313703834603024384">tweets</a> was posted to Hill&#8217;s Twitter account that stated:
<blockquote>Katie’s former staff here. Disappointed in so many folks &#8211; including Elizabeth Moss, @Blumhouse , &amp; @michaelseitzman &#8211; regarding today&#8217;s announcement. This is an incredibly sensitive situation. We appreciate the instinct to defend our former boss, an LGBTQ+ woman who faced abuse from her husband.
What happened to Katie Hill shouldn’t happen to anyone. But, this moment requires more nuance, as Katie Hill’s story &#8211; our story &#8211; is also one of workplace abuse and harassment. Katie Hill can be both a victim and perpetrator. And, staff can experience severe consequences for speaking out against their powerful boss.
No one should have to put themselves in harm’s way for the public to understand a simple truth: Katie Hill is not a hero for women. We deserve heroes who embody our values even in the most difficult moments. Katie Hill was never investigated by the House Ethics Committee, nor has she been held accountable by anyone other than herself. We encourage everyone to reflect deeply before taking her word at face value.
Katie took advantage of her subordinates. She caused immense harm to the people who worked for her, many of whom were young women just beginning their careers in politics. Workplace abuse and harassment can take many different forms, but one thing is certain: it is never okay, even if your boss is a woman and/or a survivor.
Believe us when we say: it’s not only about who starts it, it’s also about who ends it. And, while Katie is certainly the survivor of abuse, we are not confident that she sufficiently acted to end her own patterns of inappropriate and abusive behavior. Enough is enough. In order to advance the #MeToo movement, we must be willing to acknowledge the problematic behaviors among those in our own communities. Hill responded to the series of tweets from her personal Twitter account roughly an hour later.

‘Former Staff’ Hijacks Democrat Katie Hill’s Gov Twitter Account, Accuses Her Of ‘Abuse’: ‘Not A Hero For Women’

The day after an intense exchange with Congressman Cedric Richmond (D-LA) about race and family, Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) revealed that he has been raising an adopted son from Cuba for about the last six years — a fact he suggests may illuminate why he became so angry during the hearing. 
“For all those wondering, this is my son Nestor. We share no blood but he is my life. He came from Cuba (legally, of course) six years ago and lives with me in Florida,” said Gaetz. “I am so proud of him and raising him has been the best, most rewarding thing I’ve done in my life.”
“As you can imagine, I was triggered when (to make an absurd debate point) a fellow congressman diminished the contributions of Republicans because we don’t raise non-white kids,” he said. “Well, I have.”

In an interview with <a href="https://people.com/politics/matt-gaetz-tells-story-boy-he-raised-as-a-son/">People Magazine</a>, Gaetz revealed that he began raising Nestor shortly after he arrived from Cuba around age 12, with the exception of a period of time when Nestor lived with his biological father during his junior year of high school. 
At the time Nestor came to the United States, Gaetz was dating Nestor’s older sister and the boy’s mother had just died of breast cancer. People Magazine notes that Gaetz declined to elaborate on Nestor&#8217;s relationship with his biological relatives. 
“My work with Nestor, our family, no element of my public service could compare to the joy that our family has brought me,” said Gaetz. 
The congressman, who was a state legislator at the time he says he informally took in Nestor, says he kept Nestor from the public eye for privacy reasons: “I felt like coming to the country, dealing with the death of a mother, learning English and enduring the normal trials and tribulations of high school and middle school were enough on the young man’s plate.”
But Gaetz now says Nestor, who is 19 and getting ready for college, is ready to identify himself with the congressman. After Gaetz made the announcement, Nestor replied from his own Twitter account: “I love you, keep up the good work, we all support you and love you.”
According to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/republican-matt-gaetz-and-son-nestor-appear-together-on-fox-news/2020/06/18/bdc32fde-b1cd-11ea-8f56-63f38c990077_story.html">The Washington Post</a>, Richmond declined to respond to the news about Gaetz’s family announcement but suggested that the congressman may not have prepared his son for how to interact with the police as a person of color. 
“From his display yesterday, I don’t think that son is going to get an adequate talk that goes with being a person of color in America because I think that the congressman doesn’t get it,” said Richmond. “We all know that the talk that you have to have, especially with young black males and males of color, about their interactions with police — I’m not sure he has the life experience to give that.”
In the interview with <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/republican-matt-gaetz-and-son-nestor-appear-together-on-fox-news/2020/06/18/bdc32fde-b1cd-11ea-8f56-63f38c990077_story.html#comments-wrapper">People Magazine</a>, Gaetz suggested otherwise, explaining that he’s “had ‘the talk’ with Nestor about how to interact with law enforcement,” and that it’s “probably a different talk than I would have had if I had a white son.&#8221;
During the committee hearing, Richmond suggested that other members of Congress didn’t have the same worries as him, on account that he is black, has been a victim of excessive force in the past, and also has a black son. Later in the hearing, Gaetz pushed back: “Are you suggesting that you&#8217;re certain that none of us have non-white children?&#8221; 
“Matt, Matt, stop! I’m not about to get sidetracked about the color of our children,” responded Richmond, which prompted some back and forth related to procedure. “I already know that there are people on the other side that have black grandchildren. It is not about the color of your kids, it is about black males — black people in the streets — that are getting killed. And if one of them happens to be your kid, I’m concerned about him too, and clearly I’m more concerned about him than you are.”
Gaetz issued a forceful reply: “You’re claiming you have more concern for my family than I do? Who in the hell do you think you are?”
“If the shoe fits,” replied Richmond.
“You don’t know how much we care about our families! This is outrageous! You should take those words down,” responded Gaetz. “I know you care about your family and love your family, so do we, damnit!”
In a brief appearance on Tucker Carlson on Thursday evening, Nestor said of the viral exchange between Gaetz and Richmond: “I think it’s kind of unfair to tell someone that they don’t understand because of their racial color.”

After Gaetz made his Twitter announcement about his family, some Twitter users floated conspiracy theories about Nestor, prompting former Congresswoman Katie Hill (D-CA), who resigned last year, to issue a forceful defense of him. 
“Many of you know [Matt Gaetz] [and] I have an unlikely friendship. I can’t stand a lot of his beliefs but he’s been there for me when others haven’t. He talks about Nestor more than anything, has done so much for his son [and] is truly a proud dad. This<a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/freenestor?src=hashtag_click"> #freenestor</a> thing is bullshit. Stop,” said the former congresswoman. 
“Also he was never &#8216;hiding&#8217; his son. He was trying to protect him from the crap that comes from being a politician’s kid, [especially] after what Nestor had been through, [especially] in this political climate. Now that Nestor is grown he’s made his own choice to enter the spotlight. Good for them,” said Hill.

So yeah it really hurt to have my old seat flip back to Republican-for a ton of people &amp; also for me. In fact, it was pretty fucking devastating. I went offline &amp; cried for a few days but, as always, getting ready to stand back up &amp; keep fighting. Hope you are too.

Last October, as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pelosi-responds-to-rep-katie-hills-resignation-untenable">The Daily Wire</a> reported, the House Ethics Committee <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-democrat-katie-hill-under-investigation-over-sex-scandal">announced</a> it was launching an ethics investigation into allegations that Hill had an affair with a congressional staffer in violation of House Rules.
Hill said in her <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-democrat-katie-hill-is-resigning-amid-allegations-of-sexual-relationships-with-staffers-report-says">resignation statement</a>:
