Director of the FBI Kash Patel broke his silence on Saturday over the controversy surrounding the Jeffrey Epstein files, asserting that related &#8220;conspiracy theories just aren&#8217;t true.&#8221;
The Department of Justice (DOJ) recently announced there was no evidence to prove that Epstein had a client list, had blackmailed powerful people, or had been murdered. The revelations have come under fire from some politicos and others online who suggest government officials are not revealing the full trust or misled the public with past statements.

Patel also re-posted a message from his girlfriend, country singer and conservative activist Alexis Wilkins. False rumors began circulating about the 26-year-old following the DOJ&#8217;s announcement about Epstein, she says.

I know many, many people are deeply disappointed by the fact that the DOJ and FBI just announced that the Epstein case is essentially closed: that he killed himself, that there is no Epstein List, and that it’s pretty much the end of the process. I get it. Jeffrey Epstein was a total and complete piece of human debris, a predatory criminal who inflicted unspeakable harm on vulnerable underage girls, and he deserved far worse than he got.
But that doesn’t mean that the Trump administration is lying. It doesn’t mean all our questions are answered, or that evidence has been provided to answer them.
But here’s my deal: if Dan Bongino, Kash Patel, Pam Bondi, JD Vance and Donald Trump told me today that after looking at all the evidence, it turns out Epstein was a Mossad agent who trafficked young girls in order to blackmail prominent people, I’d believe them, because they saw the evidence. I haven’t.
But that’s not what they’re telling me.
So why do I believe them? Because they asked the same exact questions the rest of us did. They wanted the same exact answers.
So, here’s the deal: It’s our job to follow the evidence, or lack thereof, wherever it leads. I don’t have more evidence today that answers my questions than I did yesterday – except that I have the word of people I trust who do. I didn’t suddenly gain access to more information. But Dan, Kash, Pam, JD Vance, and Trump did.
Kash Patel and Dan Bongino were among the loudest voices demanding the truth about Epstein. They, like many of us, strongly suspected a cover-up in Epstein’s death and hoped for a bombshell revelation. These guys were never shills for the establishment – they built their reputations by challenging it.
Dan Bongino has been a stalwart defender of truth and transparency. He’s the guy who’s been on the front lines exposing the Russia hoax, the guy who’s been calling out the weaponization of federal agencies, the guy who’s been consistently right about institutional corruption. When someone like that tells you he’s reviewed the entire file and that Epstein killed himself, shouldn’t that carry some weight? Shouldn’t we extend the benefit of the doubt to people who have earned our trust through years of principled stands?

And Kash Patel – this is someone who worked inside the system, who saw the deep state machinations firsthand, who helped expose the FISA abuses and the corruption at the highest levels of government. These aren’t establishment apologists. These are people who have put their careers on the line to expose uncomfortable truths. So when they, along with JD Vance, Pam Bondi, and President Trump, who all operated under the exact same assumptions, tell us that the evidence doesn’t support the conspiracy theories we’ve been entertaining, maybe – just maybe – we should listen.

Again, I understand the skepticism. After years of being lied to by the media, after seeing how institutions have been weaponized against conservatives, our default position has become one of suspicion. And that’s not entirely unreasonable. But here’s what should separate the rational from the irrational: to follow the evidence where it leads, even when it’s uncomfortable, and even or especially when it contradicts our preconceived notions.
And, again, if one day, legitimate evidence emerges that this was a coordinated cover-up and a genuine conspiracy orchestrated by this administration — I’ll be the first to come out and say I got it wrong and they lied. When new evidence emerges, I change my opinion.
That’s what it means to follow the facts.
I understand this is a tough pill to swallow. I really do. We were all making assumptions in similar ways about Jeffrey Epstein. But so were the members of the Trump administration until they saw what we haven’t seen.
For years, we’ve been operating under the collective belief that there were some mysteries to be solved here. The narrative was compelling; it made sense given the evil nature of the crimes at play.
But here’s the thing – and this is where we need to separate emotion from evidence – the facts are what the facts are. The FBI has concluded its investigation. The Justice Department has released its findings. Multiple independent investigations have all reached the same conclusion: Jeffrey Epstein died by suicide, and there is no evidence of a client list.
So, let’s go back through this case and examine the legitimate questions – and there were legitimate questions. And then let’s discuss the possibilities rationally, knowing what we know.

<h3>WHAT WERE THE ALLEGATIONS?</h3>
<h3>Ghislaine Maxwell: The Facts</h3>
She was convicted for her role in recruiting, grooming, and trafficking underage girls for the sexual abuse of Jeffrey Epstein. Epstein was identified as the main perpetrator.
<h3>So, Who Alleged the Involvement of Third Parties?</h3>
Virginia Giuffre: She claimed that Maxwell and Epstein told her to have sex with Epstein’s powerful friends and associates, including Prince Andrew, Senator George Mitchell, and Alan Dershowitz. She provided zero supporting evidence of these allegations about anyone but Epstein and Prince Andrew, who appeared in a photo with Giuffre and Maxwell in London. Prince Andrew settled a civil lawsuit and did not admit guilt. She had credibility problems: she apparently changed her details many times, including even her age when she met Epstein. She gave a deposition in 2016 in which she contradicted earlier statements about interactions with individuals, including her allegations that she had not been in a helicopter with Bill Clinton. She also dropped her claims against Dershowitz, saying she may have erred. Prosecutors didn’t even include her allegations in the case against Ghislaine Maxwell.

Sarah Ransome: She alleged that Maxwell and Epstein trafficked girls to Epstein’s “colleagues” and powerful men, including Clinton, Trump, and Richard Branson. She provided no evidence to support the allegations. She sued Epstein and Maxwell, and settled out of court. She claimed that she was sexually trafficked when she was 22, that she was threatened, and her passport was removed.
Johanna Sjoberg: She testified about being present with Giuffre, Prince Andrew, and Maxwell, and said Prince Andrew acted inappropriately, but she didn’t allege that Maxwell trafficked her to third parties.
<h3>Why Did Epstein Settle His Original Criminal Case in 2008? </h3>
Originally, he settled under a non-prosecution agreement, after facing a 53-page federal indictment for sexually abusing dozens of underage girls. Prosecutors instead pursued solicitation of prostitution and procurement of minors for prostitution. The non-prosecution agreement (NPA) didn’t just protect Epstein, it protected four named co-conspirators and any unnamed co-conspirators. He served only 13 months in county jail, much of it on work release.
Acosta and his team believed that Epstein registering as a sex offender was better than running through a trial that may have ended the way P. Diddy’s case did. He claimed that it would have put underage girls through trauma.
Multiple Department of Justice reviews found no evidence that Acosta’s decision was motivated by corruption, Epstein’s wealth, status, or associations. The DOJ concluded that Acosta exercised &#8220;poor judgment&#8221; but did not commit professional misconduct or act under improper influence.
<h3>Is There Any Evidence Epstein Was An Intelligence Asset?</h3>
Then-US Attorney Alexander Acosta allegedly claimed that he was told by higher officials that Epstein was “of importance to the government” and to “leave it alone.” Acosta apparently decided to resolve the case through a plea arrangement before the federal investigation had concluded. Acosta, when asked if Epstein “belonged to intelligence,” refused to comment, citing DOJ guidelines. He never publicly made this allegation. He actually said, “There has been reporting to that effect. And let me say, there’s been report to a lot of effects in this case. Not just now but over the years. And again, I would, I would hesitate to take this reporting as fact.”
Zero governments, U.S. or otherwise, have acknowledged Epstein as an intelligence asset.
Epstein’s properties were wired with hidden cameras, and witnesses reported surveillance footage monitored and stored.
Ghislaine Maxwell’s father, Robert Maxwell, allegedly had ties to Israeli intelligence.
Epstein had an Austrian passport with a false name as well as a Saudi address, and worked with Adnan Khashoggi, a known arms dealer and intelligence asset. 
<h3>How Did Epstein Make His Money?</h3>
He started working at Bear Stearns in the 1970s and became a limited partner by 1980. He then founded a consulting firm called the International Assets Group/Intercontinental Assets Group, which claimed to recover stolen money for wealthy clients. He worked with Steven Hoffenberg at the Towers Financial Corporation, which later was exposed as a Ponzi scheme. It’s not clear how involved he was. He then founded the Financial Trust Company, which had essentially one client – Leslie Wexner, of Victoria’s Secret fame – which was the basis for his wealth. Wexner later accused Epstein of misappropriating vast sums of money for personal use. He also received $158M from Leon Black for tax and estate planning services.
Deutsche Bank was fined $150 million for compliance failures related to Epstein; JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank settled lawsuits alleging that they benefitted from his illegal activities.
<h3>Did Epstein Kill Himself?</h3>
The DOJ has run multiple investigations and found that Epstein killed himself.
The DOJ and Bureau of Prisons stated that the missing minute of tape is a recurring technical artifact: the video system resets at midnight every night.
The camera angle didn’t include Epstein’s cell because two other cameras malfunctioned. Available footage, according to the DOJ, would have covered anyone going in or out.
Again, I don’t know the answers to all the questions. But I know people who have far more access to evidence than I do. I know them personally. Maybe they’re all lying to me. Maybe they’re all in on it.
But here’s the thing: if they told me the opposite, I’d believe them. So, here’s what should happen next: a full report from the FBI and DOJ explaining just why they came to the conclusions they did. One that answers our questions as fully as possible – and explains what they don’t know, either. More transparency is a good thing.
But in the meantime, I’m not going to call all of these people liars or suggest they’re victims of an op or running one. Because I have no evidence for that.
And when the evidence changes, I change my position.

The FBI announced Tuesday that it had selected the Ronald Reagan Building complex in Washington, D.C., to replace the historic J. Edgar Hoover Building as its headquarters.
The news comes after FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kash-patel-says-fbi-is-shutting-down-d-c-hq" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in May that the bureau would be leaving the Hoover building, where it has been for over 50 years. The announcement was made in conjunction with the General Services Administration (GSA), which said the move to an existing government building instead of a new one would save taxpayer dollars. 
“This is a historic moment for the FBI,” Patel said. “Through our strong partnerships with members of Congress and GSA, we are ushering FBI Headquarters into a new era and providing our agents of justice a safer place to work. Moving to the Ronald Reagan Building is the most cost effective and resource efficient way to carry out our mission to protect the American people and uphold the Constitution.”

There have been talks for nearly two decades about moving the FBI from the Hoover building, which was completed in 1975. A <a href="https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-12-96.pdf">2011 report</a> from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said the building needed serious repairs and was “inefficient” for the FBI’s needs.
“FBI&#8217;s existing headquarters at the Hoover building is a perfect example of a government building that has accumulated years of deferred maintenance, suffering from an aging water system to concrete falling off the structure,” said GSA Acting Administrator Stephen Ehikian. “I am proud of GSA&#8217;s commitment to working with Director Patel and his FBI team to find a building that best supports their mission and their people.”
Both Maryland and Virginia attempted to get the FBI headquarters moved to their state, but President Trump said he wanted to keep the FBI based in D.C. Trump scuttled plans from former President Joe Biden to build a new $2.5 billion building in suburban Maryland for the FBI.
The Reagan Building currently houses U.S. Customs and Border Protection and was previously occupied by USAID, which has been shut down and transferred to the State Department. 
Before he became FBI director, Patel <a href="https://rollcall.com/2025/02/20/senate-confirms-kash-patel-as-fbi-director/">said</a> that he would “shut down the FBI Hoover building on Day 1 and [reopen it the] next day as a museum of the deep state.” Patel has also pledged to disperse the FBI employees across the country away from D.C.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced on Tuesday that the FBI had uncovered documents pertaining to an &#8220;alleged Chinese plot to create fake mail-in ballots&#8221; ahead of the 2020 presidential election.
Patel shared a screenshot of a headline from Just the News that read, &#8220;FBI gives Congress intel on alleged Chinese plot to create fake mail-in ballots in 2020&#8221; — along with his own comment confirming that the FBI had, in fact, turned such information over to Congress for additional scrutiny.

According to the <a href="https://justthenews.com/accountability/political-ethics/fbi-gives-congress-intel-alleged-chinese-plot-create-fake-mail">report</a> published by Just the News, the alleged scheme involved the mass production of fake American driver&#8217;s licenses. The intelligence reports that raised the concern were from August of 2020 — and have now been declassified by Patel and turned over to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
Grassley knew of the intelligence reports, and had been concerned that they had never been properly investigated at the time. Instead, after President Joe Biden took office in January of 2021, his newly confirmed Director of National Intelligence Avril Haines declassified an <a href="https://www.dni.gov/files/ODNI/documents/assessments/ICA-declass-16MAR21.pdf">intelligence report</a> in March stating that there had been no attempt by Communist China to interfere in the outcome of the election.
That report, declassified on March 10, 2021, stated in part, &#8220;We have no indications that any foreign actor attempted to alter any technical aspect of the voting process in the 2020 US elections, including voter registration, casting ballots, vote tabulation, or reporting results.&#8221;
With regard to China, the report said, &#8220;We assess that China did not deploy interference efforts and considered but did not deploy influence efforts intended to change the outcome of the US Presidential election.&#8221;
The report also determined that Iran had made attempts to influence the election in Biden&#8217;s favor, but had not been successful in doing so.

As the fight between Trump and Musk escalated, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO <a href="https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1930703865801810022">wrote</a> on X, “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” He added in a follow-up: “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.”
Rogan read Musk&#8217;s post as he was recording an episode with Patel that dropped on Friday.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not participating in any of that conversation,&#8221; Patel said after Rogan read the post.
&#8220;Someone should take his phone away,&#8221; Rogan said of Musk.

Federal authorities have arrested a suspected accomplice to a man who committed a suicidal terror attack against a California fertility clinic last month.
FBI agents arrested Daniel Park, 32, in New York after he was extradited to the United States from Poland. Authorities <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/washington-state-man-arrested-federal-charges-alleging-he-provided-material-support-palm">say</a> Park provided “significant quantities of ammonium nitrate” to Guy Bartkus, who died bombing a fertility clinic in Palm Springs, California, last month.
“Let this be a reminder: If you harm the American people, or aid and abet those who do, you cannot hide. This FBI will work with our partners to pursue you, find you, and bring you to justice — in any corner of the planet,” FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement on X.

Attorney General Pam Bondi secured extradition for Park to the United States while she was on a trip to Poland this week. Park had been detained in Poland for two weeks until the attorney general’s visit and his extradition.
“Bringing chaos and violence to a facility that exists to help women and mothers is a particularly cruel, disgusting crime that strikes at the very heart of our shared humanity,&#8221; Bondi said in a statement to <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/06/04/bondi-extradite-poland-daniel-jongyon-park">Axios</a>, which first reported on Park’s extradition.
Bartkus attacked the Palm Springs American Reproductive Centers clinic on May 17. Bartkus drove a car with a bomb inside to the clinic and detonated it, killing himself. Others wounded in the blast have since been treated and released from hospital care.
The blast from the bomb was strong enough to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/05/19/nx-s1-5403669/what-we-know-palm-springs-ivf-clinic-bombing">send</a> pieces of nearby vehicles hundreds of feet in the air, according to police.
Park “shares Bartkus’s extremist views,” according to the Department of Justice, which said that Bartkus’ attack was motivated by his “pro-mortalism, anti-natalism, and anti-pro-life ideology.”
Park shipped an estimated 180 pounds of ammonium nitrate, an explosive precursor chemical, to Bartkus ahead of the attack on the clinic. Park also paid for 90 more pounds of the explosive to be shipped to Bartkus, according to prosecutors.
Park began to ship the ammonium nitrate to Bartkus shortly before Park stayed with Bartkus from January 25 to February 8. Park and Bartkus spent part of their time together in Bartkus’ garage “running experiments,” prosecutors said.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said on Thursday that the bureau would release video footage that shows &#8220;clear as day&#8221; that child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was the only person in his jail cell before he was found dead with marks around his neck.
In an appearance on &#8220;<a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6373606842112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox &amp; Friends</a>&#8221; Thursday morning, Bongino said that all the evidence points to Epstein committing suicide in his New York jail cell in August 2019. Some strange circumastances around Epstein&#8217;s death sparked widespread speculation that the child rapist was killed due to his potential knowledge of influential people allegedly committing similar crimes. Earlier this month, Bongino and FBI Director Kash Patel were criticized after they said that there was &#8220;<a href="https://x.com/FBIDDBongino/status/1924115672021241991" target="_blank" rel="noopener">no evidence</a>&#8221; that Epstein killed himself.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not asking anyone to believe me. I&#8217;m telling you what&#8217;s there and what isn&#8217;t,&#8221; Bongino told the &#8220;Fox &amp; Friends&#8221; co-hosts.
&#8220;There&#8217;s video that when you look at the video, and we will release it &#8230; we are working on cleaning it up to make sure you have an enhanced version, and we&#8217;re going to give the original so you don&#8217;t think there were any shenanigans — you&#8217;re going to see there&#8217;s no one there but him,&#8221; Bongino added.
He said the video doesn&#8217;t show &#8220;the actual act&#8221; of Epstein committing suicide, adding that the footage comes from a camera in the Metropolitan Correctional Center bay, which was just outside of Epstein&#8217;s cell. Bongino clarified that the FBI would look into any tips that would suggest that Epstein was murdered, but currently, &#8220;there is no DNA, there’s no audio, there’s no fingerprints, there’s no suspects, there’s no accomplices, there’s no tips. There is nothing.&#8221;
&#8220;If you have it, I’m happy to see it. There’s video clear as day, he’s the only person in there and the only person coming out. You can see it,&#8221; he added.

Some of the strange circumstances around Epstein&#8217;s death include the fact that he was <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/jeffrey-epstein-was-taken-suicide-watch-high-level-psychologist-n1046071" target="_blank" rel="noopener">removed</a> from suicide watch just days after an apparent suicide attempt in July 2019. The decision to take Epstein off suicide watch was made by a &#8220;doctoral-level psychologist,&#8221; according to the Justice Department.
Additionally, two guards working the overnight shift on Epstein&#8217;s unit before his death allegedly <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/did-jeffrey-epstein-kill-himself-60-minutes-investigates-2020-01-05/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">failed</a> to check on him for more than 10 hours, falling asleep and neglecting their duty to make routine checks every 30 minutes. A camera that should have captured Epstein&#8217;s cell door was reportedly not working the night Epstein died.
Epstein was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/08/17/nyregion/epstein-suicide-death.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found dead</a> with bed sheets wrapped around his neck at 6:30 a.m. on August 10, 2019, around a month after he was arrested.

The FBI raided Rodriguez&#8217;s Chicago apartment Thursday morning, but authorities have yet to release any information on what was recovered in the raid. Rodriguez worked for the American Osteopathic Information Association and was once associated with a branch of the far-Left Party for Socialism and Liberation, which pushes anti-Israel views.

Dan Bongino, the deputy director of the FBI, <a href="https://x.com/FBIDDBongino/status/1925580947463762139" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, &#8220;The FBI is aware of certain writings allegedly authored by the suspect, and we hope to have updates as to the authenticity very soon.&#8221;
&#8220;The subject is in custody and interviewed last night at approximately 1am. FBI Director Kash Patel teased a coming &#8220;wave of transparency&#8221; with regard to the Russiagate controversy that dogged President Donald Trump during his first term in the White House.
In a Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6373020839112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> alongside Deputy Director Dan Bongino, Patel spoke to &#8220;Sunday Morning Futures&#8221; host Maria Bartiromo about reviving trust in the bureau years after the scandal that they have long examined and criticized. Trump <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/03/immediate-declassification-of-materials-related-to-the-federal-bureau-of-investigations-crossfire-hurricane-investigation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">signed</a> an order in March for the declassification of materials related to the Russia investigation, codenamed &#8220;Crossfire Hurricane,&#8221; led by the FBI. Patel then made reference to several major Russiagate figures who previously served in the bureau: former Director James Comey, former Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, former agent Peter Strzok, and former General Counsel James Baker. The interview, which aired Sunday, was recorded before federal authorities <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/director-of-national-intel-says-comey-should-be-thrown-jail-86-trump-post" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opened</a> an investigation into Comey over a social media post that some have taken to be a threat against Trump. Comey denies that he intended to call for violence.
&#8220;But when the likes of Comey and McCabe and Strzok and company came in here with the James Bakers of the world and intentionally lied to a federal court, only to rig a presidential election by lying to the American public and using taxpayer dollars, likely illegally, to fund this entire operation, and then withhold exculpatory information from a federal court that I used to appear before to manhunt terrorists, that&#8217;s what broke the FBI,&#8221; Patel said, referring to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-kill-fisa-as-lawmakers-consider-surveillance-reauthorization" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FISA scandal</a> within Russiagate.
&#8220;And then, when they were caught, they lied about it,&#8221; Patel added. &#8220;And you and a few others like Dan and others were brave enough to cover it six, seven, eight years ago. And we&#8217;re still talking about it today, because, as Congress is working rigorously with us, the Crossfire Hurricane documents are coming fast and hard. And they&#8217;re being sent there unredacted, so we can have full accountability. And that&#8217;s how you restore &#8230; the trust that was lost to the American public when it comes to the FBI.&#8221;
Bartiromo pushed back.
&#8220;Yes, but, come on, Director. With all due respect, we have been talking about this for a long time, and I have been demanding accountability for many, many years,&#8221; she said. &#8220;One of the — you mentioned Comey, Strzok and the rest. They have got TV shows. They have got media platforms. They&#8217;re fine. There&#8217;s been no accountability.&#8221;
In response to what he conceded was &#8220;a fair criticism,&#8221; Patel emphasized the situation is now different.
&#8220;What I will tell people is, we weren&#8217;t here in the FBI in the last five years, when we had statute of limitations that were still in play, where we could have investigated criminal conduct. Most of these statute of limitations are five years old,&#8221; Patel said. &#8220;And we will investigate criminal conduct where we find a righteous case to do so and the law and the facts allow us to. But a lot of it, we&#8217;re precluded from. So we will take the criticism, and it&#8217;s rightfully so, that could we have done more in the past? Sure, people before us could have.&#8221;
He continued: &#8220;But what we can do now is continue to put out the documents and the information that these people withheld from the American public. And I&#8217;m just telling you, right now, as much as we know about Crossfire Hurricane, he and I just found out more last week. And we&#8217;re continuing to work with Congress to put those documents out. That&#8217;s how vindictive and vicious the former leadership structure here was. Not only did they bastardize the FISA process and lie to the American public. They withheld and hid documentation and put it in rooms where people weren&#8217;t supposed to look. And it&#8217;s a good thing we&#8217;re here now to clean it up, and you&#8217;re about to see a wave of transparency.&#8221;

A year before he became FBI director, Patel <a href="https://rollcall.com/2025/02/20/senate-confirms-kash-patel-as-fbi-director/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that he would &#8220;shut down the FBI Hoover building on Day 1 and [reopen it the] next day as a museum of the deep state.&#8221; He added that he would &#8220;take the 7,000 employees that work in that building and send them across America to chase down criminals.&#8221; The FBI director has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kash-patel-to-relocate-hundreds-of-fbi-staff-out-of-dc-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> major changes to the bureau, including increased &#8220;accountability&#8221; and a return to more traditional law enforcement roles.
For more than two decades, the FBI has been considering moving out of the J. Edgar Hoover Building, which was completed in 1975. A <a href="https://www.gao.gov/assets/gao-12-96.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2011 report</a> from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) said the building needed serious repairs and was &#8220;inefficient&#8221; for the FBI&#8217;s needs. Former President Joe Biden <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/washington-fbi-headquarters-hoover-building-deteriorating-pennsylvania-avenue-set-for-move-suburbs-2022-president-joe-biden-budget-fiscal-year-2023-it-infrastructure-greenbelt-metro-station-landover-gsa-warehouse" target="_blank" rel="noopener">included</a> language in his 2023 fiscal year budget to get the ball rolling on a brand new 2.1 million-square-foot headquarters for the bureau in Maryland that would house around 7,500 employees. The project would cost $2.5 billion.
President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/baltimore/news/maryland-washington-dc-fbi-headquarters-greenbelt-president-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in March, however, that he is putting a stop to those plans, and instead, wants to &#8220;build another big FBI building right where it is, which would have been the right place because the FBI and the DOJ [Department of Justice] have to be near each other.&#8221;
&#8220;They were going to build an FBI headquarters three hours away in Maryland, a liberal state,&#8221; Trump said, adding, &#8220;But we&#8217;re going to stop it, not going to let that happen.&#8221;
Patel also said he wants to reduce the number of FBI employees in the D.C. area.
&#8220;Look, the FBI has 38,000 when we&#8217;re fully manned, which we&#8217;re not,&#8221; Patel told Fox News. &#8220;In the national capital region, in the 50-mile radius around Washington, D.C., there were 11,000 FBI employees. That&#8217;s like a third of the workforce. A third of the crime doesn&#8217;t happen here, so we&#8217;re taking 1,500 of those folks and moving them out.&#8221;

Former FBI Director James Comey landed himself in hot water over what he claimed was a &#8220;shell formation&#8221; that he&#8217;d just happened to stumble upon while walking down the beach.
Comey&#8217;s photo, which he shared via Instagram, showed seashells arranged to form the numbers &#8220;86&#8221; and &#8220;47&#8221; — which was interpreted to mean &#8220;get rid of&#8221; President Donald Trump, the 47th president. It quickly caught the attention of a number of critics — including current FBI Director Kash Patel.

FBI Director Kash Patel responded via X, saying that the Bureau was aware of the post and was looking into the matter.
