Former White House Press Secretary Karine-Jean Pierre has drawn sideways glances and harsh commentary from a number of her former colleagues since she began a whirlwind media tour to promote her new <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-press-sec-karine-jean-pierre-says-shes-leaving-democrats-selling-inside-look-at-broken-wh">memoir</a>.
Jean-Pierre has shocked a series of interviewers across <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cbs-host-baffled-as-biden-press-sec-insists-she-saw-nothing-wrong-with-her-boss-how">multiple networks</a> as she has steadfastly continued to insist — even after leaving the White House — that then-President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-insiders-sang-like-canaries-in-closed-door-testimony-the-president-was-not-all-right">Joe Biden</a> was fully aware and competent up to his very last days in the Oval Office.
As she travels from show to show and network to network, Jean-Pierre has continued to insist that she saw nothing concerning before the disastrous CNN-hosted debate between Biden and President Donald Trump — despite the fact that she was with the president nearly every day and had even been with Biden aboard Air Force One on the way to that debate. Her colleagues, some of whom have since come forward to admit that Biden was struggling, particularly in the later days of his presidency, have not had kind things to say about her press tour.
&#8220;She doesn’t seem to have any idea what she’s arguing,&#8221; one colleague told Politico of her book — &#8220;Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines&#8221; — given that she worked inside the Biden White House, but has in recent interviews claimed that the &#8220;broken White House&#8221; mentioned in the title was President Donald Trump&#8217;s.
The real problem, according to most, is her apparent inability to field the most basic of questions in live interviews.

&#8220;A car crash is fascinating to watch. She was the top communicator for the president of the United States and she can’t get through basic interviews,&#8221; an unnamed strategist told Politico, adding that reading the print interview she&#8217;d done for The New Yorker was like &#8220;watching Mike Tyson fight a baby.&#8221;
&#8220;It’s like watching a toddler jump into the deep end of the pool,&#8221; another told the outlet.
&#8220;It’s a clear reminder of the communications struggles within the administration that included Karine but also included the president and vice president. The basic role of a communications professional is to devise a clear, compelling argument and then deliver it effectively over and over. By that standard, she’s 0 for two with this book,&#8221; one former Biden White House official added.
Others weighed in on that particular interview — and most were in agreement that it was not good.

&#8220;But not just the party that pushed him out,&#8221; Jean-Pierre brushed past the criticism and charged ahead. &#8220;The party as it’s behaving today in this moment when we need a Democratic Party to be fighting, to be an opposition party, and that&#8217;s really what ignited the book.&#8221;
&#8220;Right after the administration, I was just minding my business, right? No longer public servant, going to the grocery store, going to my kids’ school. People would come up to me, and strangers, and they would say, &#8216;What’s going on with the Democratic Party? Why aren’t they fighting? We knew what was going to happen after this election. Why are they not prepared?&#8217; The stakes were really high,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;So it’s connected also to the moment that we are in. I’m telling a story obviously, my story, and how I started thinking about the Democratic Party and my involvement in it. And then fast forward to today, the disappointment, the disillusionment, that millions of people have —&#8221;
King cut in then, trying to redirect the conversation: &#8220;But I want to pick up on what Tony was saying. Because I, too, thought that. And you said people said why didn’t members of his inner circle speak up about what many believe was the apparent decline of Joe Biden. And you said you are a member of the inner circle, and you never saw the decline. And after that, I wrote: &#8216;How!?'&#8221;
King could not hide her disbelief as she added, &#8220;You even write, Karine, that you were on the plane with him going to the debate, and you didn’t see anything. It’s so hard to understand!&#8221;
&#8220;Well, when we were on Air Force One going to the debate, you gotta remember, his campaign people were on the team, his family was on the team. [It] was one of those rare trips where I didn’t really see him until after the debate even though I was on the plane,&#8221; Jean-Pierre said. &#8220;So really I take — I want everyone to know that I take this question incredibly seriously. I do.&#8221;
&#8220;I was his White House press secretary, which means I had a role that saw him practically every day, and traveled with him for more than 95%,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;We’ve always said, we’re not going to say, &#8216;Oh, he didn’t age.&#8217; He aged. He poked fun at it. We always owned up. And with age comes what happens when you get older. But when we talk about the mental acuity, and again, I take this very, very seriously, I never saw anyone who wasn’t there. I saw someone who was always engaged. I saw someone who understood policy, pushed us on the policy, and also understood history.&#8221;

Things are going so well for the Democratic Party that Karine Jean-Pierre, White House Press Secretary under Joe Biden and someone who clearly knew the man was no longer mentally capable, has now decided she&#8217;s no longer a Democrat; she is now an Independent.
I know, I know, it&#8217;s a little late to run away from the sinking ship, especially when you&#8217;re the person who actually drilled the holes. 
But Karine Jean-Pierre is now trying to do just that — and make money off of it. She has a brand-new book coming out titled “Independent,” which is hilarious coming from the least independent person of all time.
According to <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/06/04/karine-jean-pierre-leaving-democratic-party-00385060">Politico</a>:
<blockquote>Karine Jean-Pierre’s announcement that she’s leaving the Democratic Party — timed with the rollout of a new book — has detonated long-simmering grievances among her former White House colleagues about Jean-Pierre’s pursuit of celebrity and personal media exposure while serving as then-President Joe Biden’s press secretary.
The attention-grabbing ploy lit up Democratic and Biden alumni texting groups and reignited frustrations that burned for years about Jean-Pierre, according to seven former Biden administration officials granted anonymity to describe private conversations.</blockquote>
First of all, we should point out that everyone knew she was incompetent. For years I called her history’s worst White House Press Secretary because she was awful at her job, truly terrible, a joke.
And Democrats kept defending her.
Why? Because, of course, she was intersectional. She was a black lesbian who was also the White House Press Secretary even though she was wildly incompetent. We had a DEI hire covering for a dead man in the White House. And everyone in the Democratic Party thought this was perfectly fine until the moment it imploded on them.

Another former official said that Jean-Pierre had begun working during the Biden administration with a New York-based publicist and had copied that person on official emails before some of Jean-Pierre’s White House colleagues intervened. “Everyone thinks this is a grift,” the first former official said of Jean-Pierre’s book project.</blockquote>
This is objective reporting because it happens to be true:
<blockquote>As Biden’s press secretary, Jean-Pierre’s halting, ineffectual briefings exasperated reporters and routinely offered material for the Republican Party’s main account on X. She frustrated colleagues throughout the West Wing for focusing on raising her own profile while leaving the hands-on management of media relations and the White House press shop to other aides. 
While it’s unclear how she will portray Biden or her time in the White House in the book, titled ‘Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,’ several former colleagues expressed confusion at how Jean-Pierre seemingly intends to paint Biden as a victim while pinning her own decision to leave the party on his “broken” White House.</blockquote>
This is going to be fun to watch Democrats tear each other apart over all of this.
This self-sabotage of the Democratic Party is the realistic response of a party of people who can&#8217;t build things. And right now, they are facing down a relatively impregnable Trump administration.
They&#8217;ve decided not to attack any of the vulnerabilities of the Trump administration. They&#8217;re spending all their time focusing inward, and they can&#8217;t help but do so because the reality is that their own politics are so broken and so angry and vicious and just anti-American in so many ways that they&#8217;re just tearing one another apart.

Former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has left the Democratic Party after working for two Democratic presidents and a career of toeing the party line, most notably while also defending former President Joe Biden amid his obvious cognitive decline.
News about Jean-Pierre’s party affiliation broke with the listing of her new memoir, “Independent: A Look Inside a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” online. The Barnes &amp; Noble description of the book reveals that Jean-Pierre has become an independent.
“In a country obsessed with blind loyalty to a two-party democratic system, Karine Jean-Pierre, former White House press secretary to the Biden-Harris administration, shares why Americans must step beyond party lines to embrace life as Independents,” the description begins.
“Jean-Pierre didn’t come to her decision to be an Independent lightly. She has served two American presidents, Obama and Biden,” it continues.
In the book, Jean-Pierre “urges Americans to think outside of the blue-and-red box as we consider what’s next to save our democracy,” the description says.
Former President Biden promoted Jean-Pierre into the press secretary role in May 2022, and from then until the end of his term, Jean-Pierre served as Biden’s foremost apologist and defender.
Jean-Pierre repeatedly dismissed questions over Biden’s physical and mental health. In July 2024, after Biden withdrew from the presidential race following his disastrous debate performance, Jean-Pierre flatly denied that there was a “cover-up” to hide the president’s frailty from the public.
“There’s been no cover up. I want to be very clear about that,” <a href="https://x.com/therecount/status/1816206435656819178">said</a> Jean-Pierre.
The former press secretary was unsparingly critical of outlets that questioned Biden’s fitness for office, especially if those outlets were right-of-center. Asked earlier in July, before Biden exited the race, if she regretted pushing back so hard against questions about Biden’s health, Jean-Pierre <a href="https://x.com/FoxNews/status/1808289599401169250">responded</a>: “not at all.”
“Let me be clear, it was a certain part of the media – you can speak to this better than I can – it was a certain part of the media which was doing this,” said Jean-Pierre while talking to a Fox News reporter. “At the end of the day, they’re fakes. That what they were, targeting the president.”
“I don’t regret it at all. It was just the facts,” she said.
CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson recently released a book, “Original Sin,” that implicates the Biden White House in a cover-up of the president’s health in the book’s subtitle: “President Biden&#8217;s Decline, Its Cover-Up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”
Tapper and Thompson detail that for at least 18 months prior to the 2024 election, Biden’s inner circle and top aides at the White House strategized on how to keep the ailing president from being scrutinized too closely. The ailing president’s decline was so serious aides <a href="https://www.axios.com/2025/05/13/biden-book-wheelchair-2024-campaign-original-sin">discussed</a> getting the president a wheelchair if he won reelection.
Many Americans were already skeptical of Biden’s health. In September 2023, a <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/09/07/politics/cnn-poll-joe-biden-headwinds">CNN</a> poll found that “[r]oughly three-quarters of Americans say they’re seriously concerned that Biden’s age might negatively affect his current level of physical and mental competence (73%), and his ability to serve out another full term if reelected (76%).”
Throughout the campaign and Biden’s final days, Jean-Pierre defended the president against questions over his health.
Last month, Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/joe-biden-diagnosed-with-aggressive-form-of-prostate-cancer">revealed</a> that he has been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. The diagnosis raised fresh questions about the former president’s health, his fitness for office, and who knew what about his health during his time as president.
A spokesperson for the former president <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/joe-biden/joe-biden-psa-screening-2014-prostate-cancer-rcna208120">said</a> Biden’s last cancer screening was more than a decade ago in 2014, as a way of explaining how the former president’s cancer was missed until last month.
In her new book, Jean-Pierre appears ready to defend her record as Biden’s chief defender over questions about his health. The book’s description on Barnes &amp; Noble suggests that Jean-Pierre believes that Biden’s run for reelection failed because of “betrayal” by the Democratic Party.
“In 2020, she joined Biden’s campaign as a senior adviser, becoming Harris’s chief of staff and then, two years later, White House press secretary. She takes us through the three weeks that led to Biden’s abandoning his bid for a second term and the betrayal by the Democratic Party that led to his decision,” the description says.

&#8220;He&#8217;s been going around with his cronies touting his so-called landslide and blowout win, but he won the popular vote by 1.5%. One of the smallest ever and he won the general election by less than 50%. So what kind of mandate is this?&#8221; Joy Behar began.
Smith, a sports commentator, pushed back, saying that he believed it was a mandate — and he laid out in detail the reasons he felt that way.
&#8220;It is a mandate and I&#8217;m going to explain why — and I don&#8217;t mind the question, but let me be very clear: I&#8217;m not supporter of Trump, I&#8217;m a supporter of truth,&#8221; Smith said. &#8220;And here&#8217;s the facts. The man won every swing state. He increased in terms of his voter turnout in his favor from the standpoint of blacks, Latinos, and young voters. He increased his numbers in that regard from 2020. 89% of the counties shifted to the right! That&#8217;s a mandate!&#8221;
&#8220;We can sit up there and play around all we want to, in 2020 Trump didn&#8217;t win the popular vote,&#8221; Smith continued. &#8220;He didn&#8217;t win the Electoral College vote. As a matter of fact, the Republicans haven&#8217;t won the popular vote if I remember correctly since 2004 — but they did this year. So 20 years after they last won the popular vote, they won the popular vote, they won the Electoral College vote, the man won every swing state &#8230; I don&#8217;t understand how people can look at that and say there&#8217;s no mandate. There&#8217;s a mandate.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, it&#8217;s a different definition of a mandate, I guess,&#8221; Behar protested.
Smith kept going though, arguing that the massive shift to the right was a clear directive for the Democratic Party to &#8220;find a new strategy&#8221; going forward.
As Smith left the set, Jean-Pierre was coming in — and she immediately informed him that she disagreed with his assessment.
&#8220;He won with the smallest margin of the popular vote since the 19th century,&#8221; Jean-Pierre said, brushing aside every argument Smith had made to assert that Trump did not, in fact, have any kind of mandate.

Jean-Pierre made the remarks on Wednesday at the Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics forum.
&#8220;Um, I, look, personally, I think what was the toughest thing to see in the three weeks [following the debate] was there was a disconnect from me, what was happening with leadership in the Democratic Party, and how it was truly as my former colleague, communications director Ben LaBolt said, it was a firing squad, and I had never seen anything like it before,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;I had never seen a party do that in the way that they did, and it was hurtful and sad to see that happening — a firing squad around a person who I believe was a true patriot, a person who I believe did everything that he can for this country,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;A person who I believe, as I mentioned before, has done more in his, in one term, than most presidents had done in two terms, historical things, and I was shocked by what I was seeing.&#8221;
When asked to clarify that she was, in fact, talking about Democrats coming out against Biden, she responded: &#8220;Yep, I had never seen anything like that.&#8221;
&#8220;That was, if you&#8217;re asking me, the thing that I saw in those three weeks, that was shocking. Shocking,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;And instead of coming together to really be unified, and trying to figure out how do we save our democracy? How do we fight back? That&#8217;s what I was seeing.&#8221;
&#8220;And you know, that&#8217;s what we decided to do for three weeks,&#8221; she concluded. &#8220;And you know, it was truly, truly unfortunate, and I think it hurt us more than I think folks realized to have done that.&#8221;

White House Press Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/karine-jean-pierre" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Karine Jean-Pierre</a> reportedly refused to let national security spokesperson John Kirby address the hostage deal at Wednesday&#8217;s press briefing because she wanted to keep the spotlight on herself.
&#8220;Zero news made in KJP’s final briefing,&#8221; said Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich. &#8220;She had no details on the ceasefire/hostage deal that will end 400 days of fighting, a defining element of Biden’s presidency – instead directing reporters to an NSC background call.&#8221;
&#8220;Sources familiar with the situation tell me KJP blocked John Kirby from briefing the press on the ceasefire, wanting to keep the spotlight to herself,&#8221; she added.
Alex Ward from The Wall Street Journal added to the report, posting on X: &#8220;White House press secretary Karine-Jean Pierre stopped NSC spokesman John Kirby from briefing at the podium today, during which he would have briefed on the Israel-Hamas cease-fire.&#8221;
Axios reported in October that Kirby&#8217;s appearances at the briefings had ended specifically because Jean-Pierre blocked him from appearing, despite Biden&#8217;s wishes.
&#8220;Jean-Pierre has long privately fumed about Kirby&#8217;s role,&#8221; the report said. &#8220;Having both of them at the podium was what Biden wanted, but Jean-Pierre thought that Kirby&#8217;s presence gave the impression she needed a chaperone.&#8221;

A new report published Thursday revealed new insights into the White House&#8217;s efforts to conceal President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden&#8217;s</a> severe cognitive decline over the last four years.
The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/politics/biden-white-house-age-function-diminished-3906a839" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Biden&#8217;s handlers limited who he spoke to, what information they gave him, and what news he consumed.
Nearly 50 Democrats — various politicians, aides, and administration officials — spoke to the Journal for the report in which they described the &#8220;hand holding&#8221; they witnessed from Biden&#8217;s handlers, which they said was unlike anything they&#8217;ve ever seen before.
The report said that Biden&#8217;s cognitive decline was so bad that a wall was built around him to mask his struggles, which were so significant that they could &#8220;upset the world order.&#8221;
Within just the first few months after taking office, Biden already showed signs of cognitive decline associated with &#8220;advanced age,&#8221; the report said. He simply could not do his job if he was involved in long meetings because he became &#8220;tired&#8221; and would &#8220;make mistakes.&#8221;
Biden&#8217;s team told those who were allowed access to the president that they had to keep meetings very short and to the point with him if they were granted time.

The report said that the degree to which his staff hid him from top lawmakers, donors, and even his own cabinet secretaries was something they&#8217;ve never seen happen with a president.
Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA), then-chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, reportedly tried to urgently get in touch with Biden before his disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan because he wanted to warn Biden that he was headed for disaster.
The phone call never happened and the rest is history: 13 U.S. service members were murdered in a suicide bombing and images of people falling off of airplanes during the debacle embarrassed the U.S. military.
Numerous officials said that they never got any time to speak with Biden and instead had to deal with his staff who seemingly did most of his work for him.
Biden&#8217;s staff worked so hard to shield his cognitive decline from the outside world that some of his own cabinet secretaries gave up even trying to communicate with Biden because requests to talk to him &#8220;wouldn’t be welcome.&#8221;
The cabinet secretaries who did have interactions with the White House often only were allowed to speak with Biden&#8217;s inner circle of handlers, not Biden.
As Biden&#8217;s mind continued to deteriorate over his time as president, so did the number of meetings that he held with his top secretaries, like Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, the report said.
Biden&#8217;s legal team prepared him over the course of a week for his interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur in the criminal investigation into his handling of classified information. When the interview came, Biden could not remember most of what he had been instructed to say and he struggled to answer basic questions.
The report continued:
<blockquote>Biden’s team also insulated him on the campaign trail. In the summer of 2023, one prominent Democratic donor put together a small event for Biden’s re-election bid. The donor was shocked when a campaign official told him that attendees shouldn’t expect to have a free ranging question-and-answer session with the president. Instead, the organizer was told to send in two or three questions ahead of time that Biden would answer.
At some events, the Biden campaign printed the pre-approved questions on notecards and then gave donors the cards to read the questions. Even with all these steps, Biden made flubs, which confounded the donors who knew that Biden had the questions ahead of time.</blockquote>
The report said that some of Biden&#8217;s lower-level handlers had to repeatedly remind him of basic things like where he should walk and sit.
Biden&#8217;s higher-level handlers hid polling data from him, leading him to believe delusional things like the race between himself and Donald Trump was a tossup when, in reality, Biden was headed for a historic drubbing.
Top Democrats were forced to intervene and speak with Biden directly after learning that his staff was lying to him about his chances against Trump.
When confronted on a phone call in mid-July about the dire state of his re-election prospects, Biden &#8220;became angry when challenged&#8221; and told those on the call he &#8220;had to go to church&#8221; and hung up the phone. He dropped out a week later.

The exchange came after Biden pardoned his son last week and then took a trip to Africa and Biden&#8217;s White House communications team avoided doing on-air press briefings for several days, likely hoping that they would not be asked on camera about their repeated lying to the American public that Biden would not pardon his son.
&#8220;Zeke asked this question. I just didn’t hear an answer,&#8221; CNN&#8217;s MJ Lee began. &#8220;The next time that the president says he will or won’t do something, why should the American people believe him?&#8221;
&#8220;I answered that question,&#8221; Jean-Pierre claimed. &#8220;I don’t have anything else to add.&#8221;
Lee again pressed Jean-Pierre to answer, to which KJP claimed: &#8220;I answered the question. I answered the question.&#8221;
Lee politely asked Jean-Pierre if she could explain it in a way that was understandable for the American public.
Jean-Pierre responded by insulting Lee, suggesting that she was not smart enough to understand her response.

She claimed that Biden put out a &#8220;really comprehensive&#8221; statement explaining his decision to pardon his son for gun crimes, tax crimes, and other crimes that he may have committed.

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday that President Joe Biden was being &#8220;truthful&#8221; with the American people when it came to the topic of pardoning his son, convicted felon Hunter Biden.
Jean-Pierre made the remarks during a press gaggle, in which video cameras are not present, after she was asked about the highly controversial pardon that covered every crime Hunter Biden was convicted of or may have committed over an 11-year span.
&#8220;One of the things that the president always believes is to be truthful to the American people,&#8221; she claimed, despite Biden repeatedly stating on the record that he would not pardon his son. &#8220;That is something that he always truly believes.&#8221;
Jean-Pierre pointed to where Biden said in his statement that he has always followed the principle &#8220;just tell the American people the truth.&#8221;
&#8220;Here’s the truth: I believe in the justice system, but as I have wrestled with this, I also believe raw politics has infected this process and it led to a miscarriage of justice – and once I made this decision this weekend, there was no sense in delaying it further,&#8221; Biden said. &#8220;I hope Americans will understand why a father and a President would come to this decision.&#8221;
She claimed that Biden just arrived at the decision this weekend, despite contrary reporting.
NBC News reported that Biden had secretly discussed pardoning his son ever since he was convicted of federal gun charges in June and that the plan to &#8220;publicly say he would not pardon his son even though doing so remained on the table.&#8221;
