The hosts of ABC&#8217;s &#8220;The View&#8221; joined a number of other media personalities in claiming that President Donald Trump was only allowing 59 Afrikaners to claim <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/spare-me-scott-jennings-scorches-dems-for-sudden-about-face-on-refugees" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refugee status</a> because they are white — while also claiming that because the Afrikaners are white, they are not &#8220;truly refugees.&#8221;
Sunny Hostin addressed the issue during Thursday&#8217;s broadcast, complaining that the Trump administration had limited refugee status for Afghans and Haitians, to whom she referred as &#8220;truly refugees.&#8221; Hostin also took a swing at Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, saying she found it to be an &#8220;insult&#8221; that the former South Dakota Governor holds that position.

&#8220;For me, you know, I think one thing — having Kristi Noem be in charge of Homeland Security, in and of itself, is an insult, it&#8217;s just an insult,&#8221; Hostin began. &#8220;And I think something that we&#8217;re not talking about — enough about — is what Donald Trump did on Monday: the Trump administration allowed in 59 white South African refugees into this country, claiming that they were fleeing racial discrimination and land appropriation.&#8221;
Hostin went on to claim that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had disputed reports of land appropriation and racially motivated discrimination — despite the fact that Ramaphosa himself signed a bill into law in late January that allows the government to expropriate private property for reasons up to and including &#8220;to promote inclusivity and access to natural resources.&#8221;
The Afrikaners, according to Hostin, did not qualify as refugees. Instead, she referenced refugees from Afghanistan and falsely claimed that the program in place to grant protected status to Afghans &#8220;who helped us&#8221; during the war had been ended. In fact, the <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/afghans-deportation-protections-ending/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> Afghan Temporary Protected Status (TPS) program is entirely separate from the more permanent Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program exclusively for Afghans who were allies during the war.
&#8220;And so the fact that Afghan refugees — people who helped us during the Afghanistan war — who helped us and protected our troops, that program has been dismissed. The fact that Haitians that are truly refugees, they have been denied protected status.&#8221;
&#8220;They&#8217;re not white people. That&#8217;s why they don&#8217;t want them here,&#8221; cohost Joy Behar suggested.
&#8220;She said it, I didn&#8217;t,&#8221; Hostin agreed.

The regular cohost, apparently forgetting the eight years former President Barack Obama spent blaming former President George W. Bush for pretty much everything, made the comments on Thursday&#8217;s broadcast of the ABC News midday talk show &#8220;The View.&#8221;

Behar began by complaining that people within the Trump administration were publicly highlighting former President Joe Biden&#8217;s failures — as they implemented policy changes to turn things around — and argued that because Biden was no longer in office, they should get over it and stop talking about him.
&#8220;They also have a tendency to place the blame on the Biden administration. It&#8217;s like, move on, that ship has sailed,&#8221; she demanded. &#8220;I never remember in my lifetime a sitting president trashing a previous president. I&#8217;ve never heard that before. You never heard — you know — Ronald Reagan didn&#8217;t do it, their Saint Ronald.&#8221;
&#8220;But it&#8217;s the common enemy, it&#8217;s what drives their base together,&#8221; Sara Haines interjected, apparently suggesting that Republicans were only bonded together by their hatred for the Biden administration.
Behar — and Haines — appear to have forgotten much of what transpired between 2009 and 2016, when Obama repeatedly blamed his predecessor for his own economic woes.
&#8220;We inherited the worst recession since the Great Depression, a banking system on the verge of meltdown. We had lost 4 million jobs by the time I was sworn in and would then lose another 4 million in a few months right after I was sworn in before our economic policies had a chance to take root,&#8221; he complained.
He also claimed it was Bush&#8217;s fault that &#8220;the efforts to apply pressure on Iran were in tatters&#8221; — a problem he purported to solve by giving billions of dollars in cash to the world&#8217;s leading sponsor of global terrorism and allowing them to edge closer and closer to developing their own nuclear weapons.
President Joe Biden, in turn, spent a fair amount of time between 2021 and 2024 blaming Trump for inflation and for the unemployment rate that was largely driven by COVID-era shutdowns implemented at the state and local levels.

Joy Behar said on Thursday that while she wouldn’t cut all ties with friends if she found out that they had supported or voted for President Donald Trump, she also would not feel inclined to go out of her way to help them in a time of need.
Behar said during Thursday’s broadcast of “The View” on ABC News that she would not “give them a kidney” if she learned that a friend who’d supported Trump was in need of one — and then she explained that she’d refuse to do so because the friend had made a poor moral choice.

Sunny Hostin agreed with Behar, saying, “Yeah, I agree with that because I think, you know, we&#8217;re in abnormal times. This is not the Republican Party of yesterday. I think it&#8217;s the Trumplican party in many respects. It&#8217;s so extreme. And if someone is supporting or voting for someone who is hurting members of my family, members of my community, our elderly, our children, gutting our government, firing people; I do have a hard time being friends with that person.”

Behar then jumped in with her assessment of the Democrat rebuttal, delivered by freshman Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) — which she said sounded &#8220;very presidential in many ways, and she wasn&#8217;t being held hostage like the woman last year&#8221; — before pivoting to address her greatest concern about the evening.
&#8220;What I really wanted to talk about was something you just said, that we don&#8217;t have a separation of powers anymore,&#8221; Behar continued. &#8220;And there was a moment there that really stopped my heart and that was when Trump shook hands with the members of the Supreme Court who were there &#8230; He said to Justice Roberts, &#8216;thank you again, thank you again, won&#8217;t forget it.&#8217; Now, what do you think he was referring to?&#8221;
Behar then speculated that Trump was obviously thanking Roberts for the decision regarding presidential immunity, and her cohosts agreed. Hostin pointed out the Court&#8217;s low approval rating, suggesting the two things were somehow linked.
Behar kept at it, going on to argue that the exchange between Trump and Roberts was clearly evidence that the Supreme Court, like the Republican-led Congress, was &#8220;in the bag&#8221; for President Trump.

&#8220;He&#8217;s been going around with his cronies touting his so-called landslide and blowout win, but he won the popular vote by 1.5%. One of the smallest ever and he won the general election by less than 50%. So what kind of mandate is this?&#8221; Joy Behar began.
Smith, a sports commentator, pushed back, saying that he believed it was a mandate — and he laid out in detail the reasons he felt that way.
&#8220;It is a mandate and I&#8217;m going to explain why — and I don&#8217;t mind the question, but let me be very clear: I&#8217;m not supporter of Trump, I&#8217;m a supporter of truth,&#8221; Smith said. &#8220;And here&#8217;s the facts. The man won every swing state. He increased in terms of his voter turnout in his favor from the standpoint of blacks, Latinos, and young voters. He increased his numbers in that regard from 2020. 89% of the counties shifted to the right! That&#8217;s a mandate!&#8221;
&#8220;We can sit up there and play around all we want to, in 2020 Trump didn&#8217;t win the popular vote,&#8221; Smith continued. &#8220;He didn&#8217;t win the Electoral College vote. As a matter of fact, the Republicans haven&#8217;t won the popular vote if I remember correctly since 2004 — but they did this year. So 20 years after they last won the popular vote, they won the popular vote, they won the Electoral College vote, the man won every swing state &#8230; I don&#8217;t understand how people can look at that and say there&#8217;s no mandate. There&#8217;s a mandate.&#8221;
&#8220;Well, it&#8217;s a different definition of a mandate, I guess,&#8221; Behar protested.
Smith kept going though, arguing that the massive shift to the right was a clear directive for the Democratic Party to &#8220;find a new strategy&#8221; going forward.
As Smith left the set, Jean-Pierre was coming in — and she immediately informed him that she disagreed with his assessment.
&#8220;He won with the smallest margin of the popular vote since the 19th century,&#8221; Jean-Pierre said, brushing aside every argument Smith had made to assert that Trump did not, in fact, have any kind of mandate.

Cohost Whoopi Goldberg asked whether anyone else wanted to address the topic, and there was a brief pause before Griffin suggested that maybe they should &#8220;give him a little bit of time&#8221; before labeling Musk &#8220;an enemy of the United States.&#8221;
Fox News commentator Guy Benson pushed back on Behar&#8217;s comments, saying, &#8220;When it’s illegal immigrants, they chant that we are a nation of immigrants. When it’s a naturalized citizen they don’t like, this ugly nativism rears its head.&#8221;

Hostin and Behar, both of whom have repeatedly accused President Donald Trump of weaponizing the Justice Department, made excuse after excuse for the blanket pardons Biden issued just moments prior to leaving the White House for the final time.
Hostin began the conversation by complaining about Trump&#8217;s decision to pardon nearly all of those who&#8217;d been charged in relation to January 6, claiming that it was out of bounds for him to pardon people who were guilty of &#8220;violence toward law enforcement.&#8221;

Griffin pushed back, noting that she was referring to the pardons issued on Monday to his siblings and in-laws.
Hostin interrupted, saying that Biden was only responding to extreme circumstances and trying to protect his family from a president &#8220;on a revenge tour.&#8221;
Cohost Sara Haines argued that she could understand where Biden was coming from, even if pardoning his family members might send a message that was not optimal.
&#8220;Whenever I see something like this I try to parse out how would I feel in their shoes &#8230; knowing what Donald Trump is capable of and what he said he would do &#8230; even at the expense of weakening [American institutions] I would say at least protect my family,&#8221; Haines explained.

Griffin tried once more, arguing that even Trump had backed away from issuing blanket pardons to family members and key allies — despite Democrats and media insisting he was likely to do so — in the final hours of his first term in the White House.
Cohost Ana Navarro complained that the two presidents&#8217; actions were not in any way comparable, saying that Biden was less of a problem because he had waited until the very last day to issue the pardons he&#8217;d repeatedly promised not to issue, while Trump had made good on day one on his campaign promise to issue pardons for most of those charged over the January 6 riot.

On Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” the co-host expressed her thoughts on the news, saying, &#8220;I would not normalize [Trump]. [Underwood] says, &#8216;I love our country.&#8217; How do you love our country and support and normalize somebody who was a convicted felon who really wants to destroy the country in my opinion? I don&#8217;t understand how you say you love your country at the same time as you normalize this convicted felon.”
Behar later said, &#8220;I would not be the person to say, &#8216;Don&#8217;t do it,&#8217; because I believe in free speech and everything about it. I personally would not do it. No one&#8217;s asked me, but that&#8217;s another story.&#8221;
Former co-host of “The View” Elisabeth Hasselbeck called out Behar for her reaction to Underwood singing at the inauguration.
&#8220;That @TheView @JoyVBehar needs to simmer down off my friend,&#8221; Hasselbeck <a href="https://x.com/ehasselbeck/status/1879240323706343624">posted</a> on X. Hasselbeck later appeared on Sean Hannity&#8217;s Fox News show Tuesday night to explain her thoughts on the drama.

She also said Behar&#8217;s comments were &#8220;nothing more than selfish personal publicity-gaining right now&#8221; and claimed she &#8220;wants to attach her name to Carrie Underwood’s name so that she maintains relevance because she knows the ship is sinking.&#8221;

&#8220;The View&#8221; co-host Whoopi Goldberg also defended Underwood during Tuesday’s episode of “The View.” She said, &#8220;I stand behind her. If I believe I have the right to make up my mind to go perform someplace, I believe they have the same right. So I have to support (her). It doesn&#8217;t mean I&#8217;m particularly interested in watching. I won&#8217;t be watching. But that&#8217;s me.&#8221;
Underwood has been facing a ton of backlash from fans following the announcement that she is slated to sing “America the Beautiful” during the inauguration ceremony on Monday. 
The “American Idol” winner later issued a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/john-rich-calls-on-country-stars-who-support-trump-to-announce-themselves">statement</a>, saying, “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event.”

Goldberg went on to say that she was bothered by the fact that the Marine veteran had chosen to toast his freedom at a bar: “I don’t know that seeing them celebrating in a bar made me comfortable.”
She then addressed the verdict itself, arguing that it was a “failure of the court” that Penny was not convicted. She said that Neely’s behavior could have stemmed from his mother’s murder and argued that everyone — from the hospitals to the courts — had failed him.

Cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin pushed back a little bit, saying that she did not believe Penny was the “villain.” Instead, she blamed the city of New York for failing to take steps to keep people safer on the subway.
When cohost Joy Behar weighed in, she claimed Penny had held Neely in a choke too long and should have known better. She also suggested that the whole situation could have been avoided if people had simply sat on Neely instead.
