One of President Donald Trump’s better qualities flies far under the radar. He doesn’t hold a grudge. That’s especially true when there’s a greater good in play.
Then-candidate Trump sparred aggressively with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly during the 2016 campaign. Late last year, Kelly endorsed Trump, speaking at a MAGA rally days before the Nov. 5 election.
The president once dubbed a presidential rival “Little” Marco Rubio. That politician is currently Trump’s trusted Secretary of State.
Now, Trump wants to make amends with Hollywood, an industry that loathes him with the heat of a thousand suns. This act of forgiveness dwarfs them all, but Trump sees movies as a vital part of the nation’s soft power as well as a critical industry.

It’s why Hollywood should swallow hard and play nice with President Trump. Or, at the very least, lend him its collective ear.
Trump’s shocking outreach began with, what else, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-movie-industry-is-dying-puts-plan-in-place-to-save-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a social media post</a>. He promised 100% tariffs on movies made outside of the U.S.
<blockquote>I am authorizing the Department of Commerce, and the United States Trade Representative, to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100% Tariff on any and all Movies coming into our Country that are produced in Foreign Lands,” he added. “WE WANT MOVIES MADE IN AMERICA, AGAIN!&#8221;</blockquote>
All heck broke loose in La La Land, with entertainment news outlets spinning furiously against the vague proposal.
Call it Trump’s opening volley, part of the president’s knack for starting with big claims and negotiating from there. It’s similar to Trump’s earlier announcement that movie superstars Mel Gibson, Sylvester Stallone and Jon Voight would form a group of “Ambassadors” to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-appoints-a-list-stars-as-ambassadors-to-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revive the flailing film industry.</a>

Except the news seemed to have caught the trio by surprise and, only recently, did one of the actors, Voight, step forward with <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/jon-voight-trump-hollywood-tariff-1236390109/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">concrete plans</a> on making Hollywood great again.
<a href="https://www.npr.org/2025/05/07/nx-s1-5389865/trump-movie-tariffs-jon-voight-tax-incentives-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NPR described Voight’s vision</a> as “federal tax incentives, co-production treaties with other countries and subsidies for theater owners and film and TV production companies.”

The “Midnight Cowboy” star acknowledged the rift between Trump and Hollywood, adding that it shouldn&#8217;t distract from the big picture.
“I think he’s been treated unfairly. I think I have too. But what’s the difference? Who cares?” Voight asks. “I mean, there’s been a battle, but now it’s time to put that aside. And I must say, in all of the interactions we’ve had [on addressing runaway production], politics has never come up. Never.”
Hollywood, Inc. would be foolish not to listen.
Yes, the box office came roaring back in recent weeks, courtesy of hits like “Sinners” and “A Minecraft Movie.” That doesn’t camouflage the sizable issues confronting movie studios, from the death of the modern movie star to escalating film budgets.
Case in point? The upcoming “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” has a <a href="https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2025/3/25/mission-impossible-8-has-a-400m-budget" target="_blank" rel="noopener">$400 million budget</a>, meaning it will have to dramatically out-perform the best films in the series to make a profit.
Hollywood’s problems would make a depressing feature.
Film and TV productions have been fleeing Los Angeles for some time. Streaming platforms have proven to be far less profitable than hoped, with Netflix emerging as the strongest money maker for now.
The DVD/Blu-ray gravy train slowed some time ago, removing a safety net for films that didn’t catch fire at theaters.
Dueling 2023 strikes hurt the industry more than anticipated, and the threat of A.I. to the creative community looms in the not-so-distant future. Social media, YouTube and other distractions now dominate the culture, making young consumers <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/deloitte-gen-z-creator-content-streaming-price-1236171227/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">less invested in Hollywood product</a>.
Meanwhile, California Democrats are <a href="https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2025-05-06/newsom-called-for-a-federal-tax-incentive-to-save-hollywood-but-will-that-actually-happen" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scrambling to prevent productions</a> from leaving the City of Angels for more receptive states and countries. That’s left countless Calif.-based crew members desperate for work. <a href="https://variety.com/2025/biz/news/new-york-film-subsidy-jersey-1236392167/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York just followed suit</a>.
Hollywood players hate Trump so much some wish they could erase his presence from pop culture of yore. “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/home-alone-2-director-trump-cameo-removed-1236369779/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">director said just that about Trump’s seconds-long cameo</a> in his 1992 film.

Others have alternately <a href="https://variety.com/2016/tv/news/louis-c-k-donald-trump-insane-bigot-dangerous-1201723679/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">dubbed him Hitler</a> or <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/celebrities-wished-trump-dead/">wished him dead</a>. That sentiment may be hard to overcome.
The perfect storm of problems facing Hollywood may be too much for any presidential plan to solve. Gen Z’s drift away from movie watching can’t be assuaged by new policies. Stars still insist on <a href="https://www.hollywoodintoto.com/fantastic-four-rachel-zegler-problem/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">insulting potential customers</a>, from “Snow White’s” Rachel Zegler to the cast of “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.”
The two sides need to put aside their differences for the greater good. A healthy film market impacts more than just studio executives, theater owners and various crew members.
Hollywood movies send a message to the world. Films like “The Pursuit of Happyness” (2006) showcase the power of the American capitalist system. Others promote values like individual liberty (2012’s “Still Mine”) and triumphs over adversity (2016’s “Hidden Figures”).
It’s why China invests so heavily in its movie industry. The Communist nation wants to put the nation’s best foot forward on the big screen, removing sequences from foreign films that cast the country in a negative light.
President Trump may not make Hollywood great again. He could help the industry thrive against all odds.

Acclaimed actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jon-voight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jon Voight</a> rallied with Trump supporters at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., on Sunday ahead of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration.
Voight celebrated Trump’s November victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, calling the election outcome “the greatest win of all time.”
“What an honor it is for me to be up here in front of you great men and women who&#8217;ve all come here to celebrate the greatest win of all time – the greatest win of all time, the victory we were all fighting for to save our country, our democracy,” Voight said to resounding cheers. “And I&#8217;m so grateful that I&#8217;m able to say that Donald J. Trump is the 47th President of the United States of America.”
He went on to say that Trump would make the United States “thrive again, he will make America great again, safe again.”
“Donald J. Trump fought hard to save this country, and now he will bring God back to our nation&#8217;s truths. He will make her thrive again. He will save the greatest country, America the beautiful,” Voight said.

Voight’s remarks lasted about three-and-a-half minutes and followed soon after a performance by Kid Rock, which featured a recorded message from Trump urging rally-goers to “make America rock again.”
“God bless Donald Trump, and may God watch over him, and may he be sworn into the White House with the blessings of the Almighty. God bless, God bless everybody. It&#8217;s great to be with you. Much love,” Voight said as he walked off the stage, making room for one of Trump’s longtime advisers and staffers, Stephen Miller.

Trump will take the presidential oath again and be sworn into office around noon on Monday. Officials have moved the inauguration ceremony into the Capitol building because of frigid weather expected on the day of the event. The traditional parade for the inauguration has been canceled, though officials are reportedly considering having Trump take his first actions as president, signing a slate of executive orders, from a stage set up in Capital One arena.
Prior to the rally, Trump visited Arlington National Cemetery and took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It was Trump’s first visit to Arlington since taking part in a memorial for the 13 soldiers who died during the Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021.

President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday that he is appointing multiple legendary Hollywood actors as &#8220;special ambassadors&#8221; to Hollywood.
Those special ambassadors will be Jon Voight, Mel Gibson, and Sylvester Stallone, Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/113839243472952784">said</a>. All three actors are conservative and have appeared publicly with Trump or praised him publicly in the past. Stallone, for example, praised Trump as &#8220;the second George Washington&#8221; while introducing him at the America First Policy Gala in Palm Beach in November.

Trump Appoints A-List Stars As Ambassadors To Hollywood

A new biopic of President Ronald Reagan has earned nearly $10 million since premiering and clocked a 98% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, exceeding expectations for the film’s success.
But this success was hardly a foregone conclusion. “Reagan,” directed by Sean McNamara and starring Dennis Quaid as the 40th president, hit several roadblocks on its way to the silver screen. First, the coronavirus pandemic, and then Hollywood strikes derailed production, and delayed the film’s premiere.
Looking back, McNamara sees these delays as “providential.”
“This film…was never intended to come out in an election year,” McNamara told The Daily Wire. “But now, in the wake of recent events, the film feels more urgent and relevant. Watching it today, especially with the backdrop of the recent assassination attempt and campus protests, it’s clear that history has a way of repeating itself. Reagan’s story, and his message, is one that we need to hear right now.”
“Reagan” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-new-trailer-for-reagan-movie-starring-dennis-quaid-just-released" target="_blank" rel="noopener">follows</a> the titular president from his childhood and Hollywood career through his time in politics. Told from the perspective of a fictional KGB agent, portrayed by Jon Voight, the film is based on Paul Kengor’s 2006 book, “The Crusader: Ronald Reagan and the Fall of Communism.”
There was another fortuitous result of “Reagan’s” delayed premiere. Sailors aboard the USS Ronald Reagan — who would have been deployed supporting operations including the withdrawal from Afghanistan at the time of the original premiere — were instead able to see the film and meet with McNamara and Voight at a special screening within their hangar bay.
&#8220;This was an incredible Reagan moment aboard USS Ronald Reagan,&#8221; Capt. Harry Evans III, Executive Officer of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, told The Daily Wire. &#8220;We pride ourselves in keeping President Reagan&#8217;s legacy alive by upholding the highest standards in everything we do.”

Chief Operations Specialist (Select) Shaun Jacob echoed the significance of the moment, calling it a “once-in-a-lifetime opportunity…to learn more about President Reagan’s history.”
The opportunity to share “Reagan” with the sailors was a personal highlight for McNamara.
&#8220;It was amazing,&#8221; he told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;I voted for Reagan in my first election, and to come full circle by creating this film and sharing it with those who serve on a ship bearing his name — it was a profound experience.”
Voight, a passionate defender of Reagan’s legacy, told The Daily Wire that the 40th president “believed in the strength of the American spirit” who “led by that example.”
“Every part of our history deserves and needs heroes,” Voight said. “John Paul II was a hero of that time. Reagan was a hero. Margaret Thatcher was a hero in my eyes. All lived and led and worked together during that dark time. And what is a hero? A hero stands up against lies and deceit and evil behavior.”

Voight also commented on the fortuitous timing of the film’s delayed release coinciding with a period of heightened political tension.
“It’s remarkable how history seems to echo itself,” he said. “With the current political climate and recent events, including the attempted assassination of President Trump and the ongoing student protests, the film’s portrayal of Reagan’s leadership and resilience resonates deeply. It reminds us of the importance of courage and conviction in the face of adversity.”
Voight told The Daily Wire he hopes that “Reagan” will inspire a renewed sense of patriotism in a divided country.
“This movie isn’t just about looking back at Reagan’s presidency; it’s about inspiring us to look forward with hope and unity,” Voight said. “Reagan’s legacy is a testament to the power of leadership and the need for each of us to rise above our differences and work together for a better future.”

Speaking to <a href="https://variety.com/2024/film/news/jon-voight-trump-support-israel-palestine-angelina-jolie-1236080058/">Variety magazine</a>, the 85-year-old actor said that his 49-year-old actress daughter was “naive” when it comes to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas following the terrorist attack in Israel on October 7.
“She has been exposed to propaganda,” Voight said. “She’s been influenced by antisemitic people. Angie has a connection to the UN [United Nations], and she’s enjoyed speaking out for refugees. But these people are not refugees.”
“She’s ignorant of what the real stakes are and what the real story is because she’s in the loop of the United Nations,” he added, calling out the “naive” activists who claim there are millions of Palestinian refugees in the West Bank and Gaza, the outlet noted.

“They’re dupes who never get outside of their bubble,” Voight continued, noting that Jolie is one of those “naive dupes.” &#8220;She doesn’t really want to share this kind of stuff, because she’s of another mind about it.”
Voight made it clear he loves his daughter and doesn’t want to fight with her, but said that the “fact is, I think she has been influenced by the UN. From the beginning, it’s been awful with human rights. They call it human rights, but it’s just anti-Israel bashing.”

The comments came after the “Eternals” star said in a post in October on <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/angelina-jolie-statement-israel-hamas-war-1235630944/">Instagram</a> that “what happened in Israel is an act of terror.”
“But that cannot justify the innocent lives lost in bombing a civilian population in Gaza that has nowhere to go, no access to food or water, no possibility of evacuation, and not even the basic human right to cross a border to seek refuge,” Jolie’s post read.
Last year, Jolie’s father made it clear he wasn’t happy with his daughter for defending Palestinians, the <a href="https://t.co/20xMYAaIuS">New York Post</a> noted.
“I am very disappointed that my daughter, like so many, has no understanding of God’s honor, God’s truths,” Voight said in <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CzNYXqzt6_J/">an Instagram video</a> at the time.
“This is about destroying the history of God’s land, the Holy Land, the Land of the Jews. This is justice for God’s children of the Holy Land,” he added.
Jolie has reportedly never responded in public to her father’s comments, the Post noted.

Conservative actor Jon Voight sent a message of hope to Republicans after the 2022 midterm results failed to show a Red Wave, and said &#8220;a change is coming.&#8221;
In a video recently posted on <a href="https://twitter.com/jonvoight/status/1591868294797348864?s=20&amp;t=EXBnjqqI6HHXJHFXWT65VA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Twitter</a>, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jon-voight" target="_blank" rel="noopener">83-year-old actor</a> called it a &#8220;great honor&#8221; to say &#8220;God bless America&#8221; as he called on his hundreds of thousands of followers to pray for &#8220;healing.&#8221;
&#8220;Let us all wish this great land a healing from all the unrighteousness that is, that is taking place,&#8221; he said. &#8220;My fellow Americans, we&#8217;re in danger of a third world war.&#8221;
&#8220;We as a family of one truth must hear this now,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Look at this lie, this deceit, that continues day after day. Can you not all see this lie? We must all wake up, wake up, because if we don&#8217;t see this lie, this land will die. Die in its beauty. Its freedom, its opportunity.&#8221;
&#8220;It&#8217;s supposed to be the land of the free; it&#8217;s far from this,&#8221; the screen legend continued. &#8220;It&#8217;s a dark web, a dark world, but not for long because, my friends, a change is coming, and a new light will emerge. We must all see this truth and allow justice to take place now. Audiences have been watching <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-rare-academy-award-winner-who-isnt-afraid-to-call-out-woke-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jon Voight’s</a> performances for decades, but the actor credits one particular role for the second half of his legendary career.
Voight says few thought he could convey the gritty antihero in 1985’s “<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089941/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Runaway Train,</a>” the tale of two convicts who break out of jail only to wind up on the titular train.
His screen image up until then lacked that brand of dangerous persona.
The ex-con character of Oscar “Manny” Manheim was the toughest guy in a tough prison, Voight explains. The Academy Award winner for “Coming Home,” renowned for his delicate features and gentle characterizations, seemed a longshot for the film.
“No one would have chosen me for that part. It came to me in a magical way, in a sense,” Voight tells The Daily Wire.
The role earned him critical honors — an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win — and a career rebirth.
“Without that performance, I probably wouldn’t have done ‘Heat,’ ‘Anaconda’ and ‘Ray Donovan,’” he says, ticking off three tough guy gigs in his career. “That’s what contributed to my longevity, being able to play the villain and the tough guys … I broke the mold.”
Voight, an icon who humbly calls himself a “character actor,” plays a curious chap in his latest project. “<a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt16375952/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dangerous Game: The Legacy Murders</a>” finds him anchoring an ensemble of bickering family members in a life or death struggle.
Voight plays Ellison Betts, an eccentric millionaire celebrating his birthday with his extended brood. Tensions are high as the siblings reunite in Ellison’s sprawling mansion, but that’s nothing compared to the threat awaiting them.
A hidden voice demands they play an immersion-style whodunnit game, one with a shockingly high body count.
Voight reunites with director Sean McNamara for the film. The duo recently completed work on “Reagan,” the 2023 eagerly biopic of the nation’s 40th president. The actor wasn’t sold initially on “Dangerous Game,” but McNamara coaxed him to come aboard.
“He found this so delicious, the way he spoke about it, I thought, ‘this is gonna be good,” Voight says, adding the veteran director makes coming to the set a joy. “He’s very positive … he always says, ‘that’s genius,’ at the end of every take, and he means it.”
For “Dangerous Game,” McNamara had multiple cameras shooting at the same time, with the director orchestrating from his booth in the back of the set, the actor explains.
The film arrives during a mini crush of murder mysteries, from the emerging “Knives Out” franchise to twin Agatha Christie remakes – with a third film, “A Haunting in Venice,” recently greenlit. Plus, Steve Martin’s “Only Murders in the Building” Hulu series keeps audiences guessing with a dash of humor.
Those projects aren’t as dark as “Dangerous Game, though, which veers from mystery to horror long before the end credits.
Voight’s career began with a pair of little-seen roles (“Fearless Frank,” “Hour of the Gun”), but his breakout performance in 1969’s “Midnight Cowboy” changed everything for him. The X-rated smash garnered Voight his first Oscar nomination, paving the way for follow-up movies like “Catch 22,” “Deliverance” and “Coming Home.” The latter earned him a Best Actor trophy, cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most gifted stars.
His “Runaway Train” performance ensured he’d stay busy for as long as his creative fires burned. Even his willingness to express his conservative views, something most right-leaning stars keep to themselves, haven’t dimmed his Hollywood stardom. 
He’s actively supported President Donald Trump and slammed President Barack Obama during the latter’s two terms in office.
You won’t hear him getting political on a film or TV set, though. He famously agreed to disagree with his longtime “Ray Donovan” colleague Liev Schreiber, a policy he maintains in other work environments.
“Politics is not to be dealt with on a set. You’re there for the work, not there to proselytize anything. That’s the way I am,” he says. “Other people will try to get me into saying something, and I say, ‘hey, let’s do our work, fellas.’”
His remarkable, seven-plus season run on Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” gave Voight the chance to do something he couldn’t for much of his career – stick with a character and watch him grow.
Mickey Donovan, a loving father to Schreiber’s Ray and an unrepentant killer, gave Voight one of his best roles yet. “It’s the first time I’ve ever done that kind of a lengthy series. It was a lot of responsibility for me to craft it … we had to protect [the characters],” he says.
Voight’s next major project after “Reagan,” in which he plays a retired KBG agent, is co-starring in Francis Ford Coppola’s comeback vehicle, “Megalopolis.” The highly anticipated film features a who’s who of Hollywood stars, past and present, including Adam Driver, Laurence Fishburne, Dustin Hoffman, Talia Shire, Forest Whitaker and D.B. Sweeney.
The craft of acting still casts a spell over Voight, much like his longtime friend Al Pacino.
“I love his passion,” he says of “The Godfather” star. “I’m passionate, too. I wanna solve these characters. We get to make them something that gives people an experience.”
Voight may be 83, but his enthusiasm seems untouched by time.
“I’m an older fella … things change, but I’m always pretty much the same fella. I come to the set with the same intensity,” he says. “I don’t mail anything in. I don’t do that. I’m still very excited [by the process].”

Every time a conservative bemoans Hollywood’s liberal groupthink a few exceptions jump to mind.
What about Tim Allen? Bruce Willis? Kelsey Grammer? Oscar-winner Jon Voight? Yes, all four lean to the Right, but Voight’s name matters most of all.
Why? 
The 83-year-old legend may be the most vocal of any Tinsel Town conservative, and his body of work is comparable to many screen icons, past or present.
But how did Voight rise to the top of not just Hollywood, but the industry’s microscopic community of right-leaning talent?
Voight started his show business career in– where else?–New York City. The future star studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. He honed his craft under the tutelage of Sanford Meisner, who also worked with <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1997/02/04/theater/sanford-meisner-a-mentor-who-guided-actors-and-directors-toward-truth-dies-at-91.html">Diane Keaton, Robert Duvall, Gregory Peck and Steve McQueen</a>.
The young actor <a href="https://www.thewrap.com/jon-voight-midnight-cowboy/">had confidence, if not swagger,</a> at the dawn of his career.
“Once I made the decision to go to New York and start school again and learn to act, I was at peace,” he says. “I never had the thought that I was just testing it. I knew what I needed to do and I knew that I wouldn’t give up.”
He made his Broadway debut in 1961 courtesy of “The Sound of Music,” and spent much of the decade working in both theater and television. He snagged two minor 1967 film roles (“Fearless Frank,” and “Hour of the Gun”) before landing the part that changed, well, everything.
He teamed up with fellow rising star Dustin Hoffman, fresh from the actor’s bravura turn in 1967’s “The Graduate,” to play an unlikely duo swallowed whole by the Big Apple.
Michael Sarrazin officially landed the role of Joe Buck in 1969’s “Midnight Cowboy” before a money squabble led the creative team to go with someone else: the 6’3” neophyte with presence to burn.
Suffice to say they made the right choice.
“Midnight Cowboy” snagged an X rating for its frank sexual content, but Voight’s performance as a young man’s attempt at the gigolo game earned him his first Academy Award nomination. The film walked away with the Oscar for Best Picture and, with that, Voight’s Hollywood life officially began.
The 1970s didn’t just cement Voight’s fame. It enhanced it. He bounced from future film classics like 1970s “Catch 22” and 1972’s “Deliverance” to work on the Great White Way. He capped the decade with an Oscar victory for “Coming Home,” the 1978 drama about a wounded Vietnam veteran’s romance with the wife of an enlisted man.
Voight kept on working, but over time he expanded his canvas to include supporting roles and the occasional villain. He landed another Best Actor nomination for 1985’s “Runaway Train,” even if the ‘80s weren’t as kind to Voight. He suffered box office disappointments like “Lookin’ to Get Out” and “Desert Bloom” during the Reagan era, but his “Runaway Train” nomination kept him top of mind for Hollywood observers.
He opened the 1990s by tackling some small-screen work, including appearances in “Return to Lonesome Dove” and “The Rainbow Warrior.”
His villainous turn in 1997’s “Anaconda” showed a new side of Voight, a scene-stealer who understands how to embrace genre movie-making sans apology. More respectable roles in “Heat” (1995), “The Rainmaker” (1997) and “Rosewood” (1997) ensured he stayed on everyone’s radar.
He entered the new century without missing a professional beat (“Zoolander,” “Holes” and “Ali,” snagging another Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Howard Cosell).
Some actors slow down over time. Others struggle to find consequential roles worthy of their gifts. Voight shrugged off both of these real-world concerns. His Emmy nominated work in “Ray Donovan,” the long-running Showtime series about a Hollywood fixer, gave Voight one of his greatest roles to date.
Playing Mickey Donovan, a character with a thick Beantown accent and an amoral code, he powered the series through seven eventful seasons. Fans loved to loathe Mickey, a deficient father figure who kept trying to connect with his adult children.
Voight even joined Hollywood’s franchise frenzy, snagging sizable roles in series like “National Treasure,” “Transformers,” “Mission: Impossible” and “Tomb Raider.”
Through it all, Voight kept the focus on his beloved craft even when tabloid headlines invaded his complicated ties to daughter Angelina Jolie. The actor’s approach started to change at the dawn of the Obama administration, when Voight decided the time was right to weigh in on political matters.
He opened up about his <a href="https://deadline.com/2014/08/jon-voight-political-statements-impact-on-emmy-chances-813793/">move to the Right around 2007</a>, showing vigorous support for Israel and slamming then-presidential candidate Barack Obama along the way. He later supported Mitt Romney in his unsuccessful quest to make Obama a one-term president. 
He’s grown louder, and less inhibited, since then.
Voight risked everything years later by throwing his full support behind former President Donald Trump, calling him the <a href="https://people.com/politics/jon-voight-argues-trump-greatest-president-since-lincoln/">best American leader since Abraham Lincoln</a>.
In 2021 he explained why he’s speaking up after decades of focusing solely on his craft.
“I know where I stand, and <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jon-voight-i-have-to-say-my-piece/">I have to say my piece</a>,&#8221; the actor told CBS News while promoting his pro-life feature “Roe v. Wade.” He also said in 2019 that the modern Democratic Party “<a href="https://thehill.com/blogs/in-the-know/in-the-know/465052-jon-voight-democratic-party-doesnt-represent-america-anymore/">doesn’t represent America anymore</a>.”
Voight sat down with The Daily Wire in 2021 to talk about Leftism in Hollywood.

Voight, who was the recipient of the <a href="https://www.arts.gov/honors/medals/jon-voight">2019 National Medal of Arts</a>, understands that art comes before politics. He even made an informal pact with “Ray Donovan” star Liev Schreiber <a href="https://tvline.com/2022/01/17/liev-schreiber-jon-voight-politics-trump-ray-donovan/">not to talk politics between takes</a>.
“I love Jon … I would do anything for him,” Schreiber said of his long-time co-star.
His “Coming Home” co-star, Jane Fonda, took a different approach. <a href="https://etcanada.com/news/689539/jane-fonda-says-shes-no-longer-friends-with-jon-voight-due-to-his-political-views-he-changed-into-an-extreme-right-winger/">She cut Voight out of her life</a> due to their differing political views. And there’s a very good chance he’s missed out on some juicy roles for similar reasons. His stunning lack of an Emmy win for “Ray Donovan” speaks for itself (he earned but two nominations for the celebrated role).
Media outlets routinely <a href="https://www.avclub.com/francis-ford-coppola-megalopolis-cast-adam-driver-1848918668">take cheap shots at Voight</a> for daring to be an open conservative.
But even so, Voight appears to have few regrets about his political persona and he continues to find work into his 80s.
The newly empowered Voight is also willing to put his name, his legacy behind right-leaning projects. He follows up “Roe v. Wade” with “Reagan,” the 2023 biopic of the nation’s 40th president. Voight will play a fictional KGB agent while Dennis Quaid stars as the commander in chief.
Voight’s politics could have slowed, if not entirely ended, his Hollywood career. Instead, he keeps on working, including a potentially major new feature from Francis Ford Coppola called “Megalopolis.”

Screen legend Jon Voight posted a video stating how everyone&#8217;s &#8220;feeling very unsafe&#8221; these days under President Joe Biden and said that the president &#8220;must be impeached&#8221; to save the country.
In the clip the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-jon-voight-blasts-legacy-media-for-silence-over-hunter-bidens-alleged-anti-black-slurs">83-year-old</a> actor recently shared on <a href="https://twitter.com/jonvoight/status/1541857774505803778?s=20&amp;t=66UKG3Unl7A-U2W8QSII6w">Twitter</a>, the &#8220;Midnight Cowboy&#8221; star referenced the &#8220;turmoil&#8221; and &#8220;darkness&#8221; we are all living in. He later admitted that &#8220;we’re all feeling very unsafe&#8221; and pointed the finger directly at Biden as the reason why.
&#8220;My dear friends, we&#8217;re all saddened by so much turmoil that has been brought upon this life we live,&#8221; Voight explained in the video he shared with his hundreds of thousands of followers. &#8220;Can this darkness be lifted? Can we all share joy once again and see eye to eye?&#8221;

&#8220;We have a troubled nation with much horror from these criminals that are ruining lives,&#8221; he added, without explaining further. &#8220;We must stop this now. We must bring back our nation&#8217;s safety.&#8221;
&#8220;Our police force must act on righteousness and guard our neighborhoods, our businesses, our children, our elderly, our veterans and our handicapped,&#8221; Voight continued. &#8220;We must protect this nation and bring back safety. We&#8217;re all feeling very unsafe. We&#8217;re all angry.&#8221;
The &#8220;National Treasure&#8221; star did not beat around the bush as he explained the &#8220;reason why&#8221; everyone is feeling this way &#8220;starts with the seat of the President of the United States.&#8221;
&#8220;He [Biden] has wronged this nation&#8217;s glory,&#8221; Jon stated. &#8220;He has taken down our morals, our true gift of the land of the free. He must be impeached. We can not wait another second having him dictate our path.&#8221;
The actor called for everyone to work together to &#8220;get&#8221; Biden out and &#8220;make this country what she stands for once again, &#8220;greatness.&#8221;
&#8220;Don’t let this President Biden tear down every inch that was sacrificed with blood, sweat and tears for his dictation of lies,&#8221; Voight shared, before he concluded that there&#8217;s still hope to bring the country back to its previous &#8220;glory.&#8221;

Actor Jon Voight responded to the tragedy in Uvalde, Texas, by calling for new measures to be put in place for gun ownership by credentialing people based on their &#8220;mental capacity,&#8221; among other things.
Voight&#8217;s remarks come after an 18-year-old Latino male stormed Robb Elementary School on Tuesday and killed 19 students before Border Patrol agents burst into the room and killed him.
Voight, a supposed conservative, espoused his left-of-center views on gun control in two separate videos posted to social media on Saturday in which he called for people to have to meet additional qualifications before being able to own firearms.
“It’s not about Left, Right, guns, no guns,” he said. “This is about brains that are dysfunctioning. This is mental. This is not about healthy human beings serving the country with arms to bear, or even the right of this Constitution for bearing arms. It is a right to use arms with proper purpose to defend one’s safety. We must not allow mental illness to take away our right to bear arms. This is about trusting the Constitution, our rights, our reason.&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re living now in a world that has no remorse for wrongdoings because we are being led by the worst in office,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;We must identify every individual for their credentials, for their mental capacity to bear arms. There should be proper qualifications for gun ownership and proper testing. One should only own a gun if they are qualified and schooled.&#8221;
Voight&#8217;s remarks completely miss the fact that the shooter was able to legally obtain two firearms by completing ATF Form 4473. Those who have been committed to a psychiatric facility, have violent criminal records, or are a convicted felon are prohibited from owning firearms and the background check will flag those records.
There were certainly indications that the shooter had a history of violence that included <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/05/28/texas-shooter-salvador-ramos-threatened-to-rape-teens-on-yubo/">making threats</a>, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/uvalde-shooting-classmate-of-salvador-ramos-jamie-arellano-says-we-saw-him-beating-a-little-dog">hurting animals</a>, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-disturbing-details-emerge-about-shooter-who-attacked-texas-elementary-school">attacking people</a>. He also showed signs of psychiatric issues in the way that he related to people by <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/05/28/texas-school-shooter-salvador-ramos-was-violent-towards-women/">flipping</a> from one extreme to the other, according to the those who knew him. He also reportedly said that he had &#8220;<a href="https://nypost.com/2022/05/25/details-emerge-on-texas-school-shooter-salvador-ramos-behavior/">fun</a>&#8221; cutting his face with a knife.

In a June 22 interview with Candace Owens, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight said while America seems to be experiencing a dark night of the soul due to hateful rhetoric, racial division, and the rise of socialist policies, he believes the nation will recover her founding vision.
“[Americans] just feel so downtrodden. And there&#8217;s just a tremendous sadness, almost, you know, like where do we go from here?” Owens, host of the Daily Wire’s talk show, “Candace,” asked Voight, adding, “It doesn&#8217;t feel like we have our country. There&#8217;s so much division, there&#8217;s so much hate, there&#8217;s so much bad rhetoric. And it feels like the people that have the most power are trying to do the most damage.”
“Well, I agree with what you&#8217;re saying,” Voight responded, “but my answer to all of this, this cloud that&#8217;s over us, this dark cloud, is that God is in his seat.&#8221;
Voight said he’s encouraged by stories he reads in the Bible that demonstrate that, ultimately, those who are trying to sow discord and strife will be the ones to experience trouble.
“God will show his face. And those who are blessed to see the truth like yourself,” he said to Owens, “will show us the way out and God will be exposing things as we go. We will rise again.”
Calling the United States “God’s country,” Voight argued that Americans’ religious faith will preserve the nation for future generations.

“There&#8217;s a reason why we say, ‘In God we trust,’” he said.  “Because we do. And God is written in every part of our story. So we&#8217;re not going to disappear. We&#8217;re not going to be destroyed like the many other countries that have been attacked by socialism, communism, Marxism. We&#8217;re going to survive this, and the truth will prevail.”
Addressing Owens and her live audience, Voight also argued that the courage shown by those who are defending Constitutional principles against left-wing ideology will rally others to their cause.
“I&#8217;m very glad to be looking at your faces out there, to know that you know that truth. And to see these wonderful people that Candace brings in front of us. You know, that shows you that we have very, very strong, very brilliant, very loving, very courageous people that are going to show us the way, help us out,” he said.
The star of classic films like “Midnight Cowboy” and “Coming Home” also discussed why, unlike many other celebrities, he’s never been canceled despite his willingness to speak out on his conservative views. Owens guessed that Voight has avoided significant damage to his career because he’s “too loved” and has been in “too many movies.” But Voight jokingly answered that some unseen benefactor protects him.
“I think there&#8217;s just somebody in [the Hollywood cancel club] that&#8217;s a friend of mine,” he kidded. “I think they cancel me every day. And somebody goes …” he waved with a dismissive hand gesture.

Actor Jon Voight called out legacy media Sunday for largely being silent regarding Hunter Biden&#8217;s reported use of anti-black slurs in text messages with his lawyer.
“What is this, a race? A war?” Voight said in a Sunday video posted on social media. “The left — they’re OK with slurs. It’s OK for Biden’s son to use racist slurs, and no one says a word, not the media — no one.”
“Why was it OK to beat down President Trump with cruel intention against his beautiful family?” Voight asked.
“Why was it OK to constantly harass them [the Trump family] for what they, the Left, accused them of being racist when Biden’s son is the lowest human being, a poor pity of a man who’s not well, who’s done wrong,” he said.
“My fellow Americans, this world has been turned upside down with negativity from media from the Left, and this is a disgrace,” Voight continued.
“I will [speak out]. I will because He — the force, God Almighty — has tried to give us all hope, and hope is real because, my friends, Trump was the only honest hope that the American people had, and this was taken away and replaced with a lower frequency than what truly the American people asked for,” he went on.
&#8220;We must remember President Trump kept America safe with dignity, class, and he made America great,&#8221; Voight said, adding, “We must not allow these left-wing ones to get away with the justification that it’s OK for Biden’s son to be racist, while the Trump family were harassed night and day for being loyal children of the 45th president of the United States.”

Hunter Biden made headlines last week when The Daily Mail got hold of text messages he allegedly sent his lawyer that used racial slurs and jokes about his penis. As The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-hunter-biden-used-anti-black-racial-slurs-in-multiple-messages-to-white-845-per-hour-lawyer" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">reported</a>:

One text exchange from January 2019 with corporate attorney George Mesires includes the president’s son saying, “I only love you because you’re a black,” and “true dat n***a,” using an anti-black racial slur.
A month earlier, Hunter Biden allegedly wrote, “how much money do I owe you. Because (sic) n***a you better not be charging me Hennessy rates.”</blockquote>
Voight has been an outspoken supporter of former President Donald Trump. Last year, he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watch-jon-voights-message-of-hope-trump-is-a-man-of-great-integrity-a-man-who-took-on-evil" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">cut a video</a> calling Trump &#8220;a great man of integrity.&#8221;
“This is a man of great integrity, this is a man who held his head high, this is a man who took on evil and brought us to light,” Voight said. “This is a man, a president, who guided his nation and his people on a path to greatness. This man, President Trump, had to fight a war, a war that was bigger than anything our nation has witnessed in our lifetime, though he shielded us and protected us through it. This is what a man of great love does, a man that will protect his country to the end. With dignity, honor, respect,  and love.”
