Members of the Missouri Freedom Caucus read Daily Wire host Matt Walsh’s children’s book “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Johnny the Walrus</a>” after Democratic officials in the state read a book that promoted transgenderism to children for “National Reading Day.”
A video posted to X by the popular account Libs of TikTok earlier this month showed the Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas, city officials, and council members reading “Introducing Teddy: A Gentle Story about Gender and Friendship.”
The LGBTQ book is written for children between the ages of 3 and 6 and focuses on a boy, Errol, and his teddy bear friend, Thomas. In the story, Thomas tells Errol that he feels like a “girl teddy,” and wishes his name was “Tilly.” Errol tells Thomas he “doesn’t care” if he’s “a girl teddy or a boy teddy. What matters is that you are my friend.” Thomas then puts his bowtie in his hair because he’s “always wanted a bow instead.”

Republican Missouri state Sen. Rick Brattin, along with members of the Missouri Freedom Caucus, responded to the Kansas City government officials’ video on Friday by posting a video of lawmakers reading Walsh’s bestselling children’s book.
“Recently, the Kansas City mayor and his goons are reading books to groom children, and we’re here to set the record straight and put a stop to this nonsense,” Brattin said. “And we’re going to do this by reading ‘Johnny the Walrus.’”

“Johnny the Walrus,” which was published in April 2022, focuses on a boy who believes he’s a walrus and his mother who goes along with her child’s desired identity, regardless of how crazy it sounds. Walsh <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-just-a-humble-childrens-author-matt-walsh-joins-tucker-to-discuss-amazon-employees-meltdown-over-his-book" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the book teaches children to accept who they are biologically, which is their true self.
“Johnny the Walrus” quickly became the number one best-selling book in Amazon’s “LGBTQ+” category, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/activists-demand-matt-walshs-johnny-the-walrus-be-removed-as-amazons-top-lgbtq-book" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outraging</a> LGBTQ activists who called on Amazon to remove Walsh’s book from the list. Some Amazon employees even held a “die in” to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/amazon-employees-disrupt-pride-ceremony-with-die-in-protest-over-matt-walshs-johnny-the-walrus-other-anti-trans-books" target="_blank" rel="noopener">protest</a> Walsh’s book, along with other books they deemed “transphobic,” being sold on the site.

Some Amazon employees in Seattle staged a protest at the company’s Pride Flag raising ceremony due to their frustration over the continued sale of “transphobic” books, including “Johnny the Walrus” by The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh.
About 30 employees draped themselves in transgender pride flags and laid on the ground at the ceremony. <a href="https://twitter.com/_katya_long/status/1532063995057778688">Footage</a> from the event shows security attempting to disrupt the protest, but the employees refused to leave.

The demonstrators are part of the internal employee activist group No Hate at Amazon. A <a href="https://nohateatamazon.com/2022-06-01speech/">speech</a> from the flag-raising described their reasons for protesting, which were rooted in Amazon allegedly “spreading a culture of hatred through the sale of transphobic books, promoting and profiting off content that advocates for the abuse of transgender children.”
The group further called the Pride Flag raising ceremony a “PR stunt” that was “blatant rainbow-washing” all while the retailer continued to sell “content that aids and encourages the psychological abuse of transgender children.” 
“There is a direct line between the hateful transphobic rhetoric Amazon is profiting from, the unprecedented anti-trans legislation across the United States, and the violent and often deadly physical attacks so many of our community face,” the open letter continued. “2021 saw the most murders of transgender people in recorded history. Overwhelmingly, these victims are Black trans women and trans women of color.” 
No Hate at Amazon cited specific titles that inspired them to stage the “die-in,” including Abigail Shrier’s “Irreversible Damage” and the children’s book “Johnny the Walrus.” 
The letter references a video of two Amazon employees co-hosting an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/video-amazon-employees-complain-about-matt-walshs-traumatic-books">internal meeting</a> discussing the book’s success, calling it a “bad faith … abuse of Amazon’s systems.” It claimed that Walsh is “taking advantage of Amazon and how the Amazon algorithms work to promote their particular brand of hate and harm.”
The speech says of the incident: “Can you imagine the fear of transgender employees at seeing their coworkers’ identities plastered over conservative media? At seeing the names of fellow employees handed to a transphobic internet mob, wondering if they would be doxxed next?”
It goes on to lament how “Johnny the Walrus” became the best-selling book on Amazon.
“Walsh used the publicity from this attack to get his book to number one on Amazon. Let me repeat that. The number one book across all of Amazon. Top of our charts,” it says.
“In Walsh’s own words, this effectively made him the bestselling author in the country. Amazon rewarded him for this harassment with enormous sales. Money he will use to keep spreading hate. This is f***king embarrassing. Everyone who let this happen should be embarrassed and ashamed.”
The speech also mentions Walsh’s new documentary, “What Is a Woman?” and their fear over its release, which happened June 1 despite a “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-daily-wire-comes-under-sustained-ddos-attack-intended-to-disrupt-premiere-of-what-is-a-woman">sustained DDoS attack</a>” meant to “disrupt” the premiere of the movie.
They call out Amazon for accepting pre-orders for the book by the same name. “Matt Walsh is not some random transphobe on the internet. This man is a serial abuser who has openly attacked our coworkers and our customers, and it will happen again if Amazon does not act.”
Finally, the speech insists the employees of the group are not “radicals” and that 600 employees signed a petition to get the &#8220;anti-trans&#8221; content removed. Per <a href="https://www.geekwire.com/2022/amazon-tops-1m-u-s-employees/#:~:text=Amazon%20employs%20a%20total%20of,company's%20fourth%20quarter%20earnings%20report.">GeekWire</a>, the company employs 1.6 million people worldwide and 1.1 million in the US as of the end of 2021. 
Amazon previously stopped selling the book “When Harry Became Sally” in March 2021 because it described &#8220;LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness,” WaPo <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/06/01/amazon-trans-pride-month-books-protest/">reported</a>.

Daily Wire host Matt Walsh joined Tucker Carlson on Tuesday night to discuss recent videos of an Amazon meeting that showed employees complaining about Walsh’s bestselling children’s book, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059">Johnny the Walrus</a>.”

“‘Johnny The Walrus’ is a bit of a problematic book. … Not a bit, it is not a bit of a problem, it is one hell of a problem,” an Amazon employee leading the meeting said. 
Carlson prefaced the interview by showing his audience the video of the meeting before bringing Walsh in and asking, “This book is deemed problematic by Amazon. What do you make of this?” 
Walsh told Carlson that selling his book on the site makes him an “abuser of Amazon’s system,” according to the Amazon employees. He also described how one of the meeting hosts started to cry as he discussed Walsh’s “traumatic” book. 
“I’m thinking to myself: First of all, I’m just a humble children’s author in a cardigan,” Walsh said, donning a red cardigan over a yellow dress shirt for the interview. “And frankly, I think their behavior towards me is marginalizing me and invalidating my lived experience as a children’s author.”
Walsh went on to explain the book’s message that focuses on a boy who believes he’s a walrus, and his mother goes along with her child’s desired identity, regardless of how crazy it sounds. “It’s about true self-acceptance,” the bestselling children’s author told Carlson. He said the book teaches children to accept who they are biologically, which is their true self.

Carlson mentioned the strange behavior of Amazon, a company that profits from selling books and hires employees who are so sensitive to opposing ideas. “How did Bezos end up with employees like this?” the Fox News host asked.
Walsh answered by saying that large corporations and media companies have set up a system where it&#8217;s nearly impossible for conservatives to succeed. “That’s what they’re upset with Elon Musk about,” Walsh said, referencing the billionaire&#8217;s purchase of Twitter on Monday to the immediate disapproval of many on the Left. 
A baffled Carlson again asked why Amazon would want “censors” running their company. “Shouldn’t they be worried?” he asked.
Walsh agreed that Amazon should be worried about its employees wanting to censor any book. “I would also point out just what they choose to censor and what they choose not to,” referencing a top-selling children’s book that promotes chemical castration for young children. “That’s the kind of book they’re okay with,” Walsh said. “Not my book ‘Johnny the Walrus.’”

The book landed the number one spot on the LGBTQ+ list this weekend, and <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Books-LGBTQ/zgbs/books/301889">still remains there</a>.
Brennan Suen, who covers LGBT issues for far-left site Media Matters, called Walsh&#8217;s placement &#8220;totally unacceptable.&#8221;

Walsh has stated that a child cannot be a walrus, just as a child cannot change their sex or gender; neither should be indulged or, heaven forbid, taken to such an extreme that a child is mutilated or irreparably harmed.
Walsh, a fierce cultural critic on the Right, first released “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=matt+walsh&amp;qid=1638715453&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-3">Johnny the Walrus</a>” on November 29 &#8212; to immediate success.
The book features a young boy named Johnny, who has a wild imagination. The child envisions himself as many things, including a walrus. His progressive mom knows her boy is a boy, but becomes pressured by her friends on social media to treat and “transition” her child to live his true identity as a walrus. Mom is faced with the choice of either protecting her son or pleasing her friends.
Mere hours after its release, the book hit number one on the Amazon <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/movers-and-shakers/books/ref=zg_bsms_nav_0">Movers &amp; Shakers list</a>, and hours later sold out. “The success of the book proves that people are tired of the children’s book market being dominated by left-wing propaganda,” Walsh told The Daily Wire. “Also, it indicates perhaps that there is a mostly untapped interest in walruses.&#8221;
On Twitter, Walsh joked that he should &#8220;henceforth be known as Bestselling Children’s Author Matt Walsh.&#8221;
Then, days later, the author landed another top spot on Amazon. &#8220;Johnny the Walrus&#8221; became the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/matt-walshs-johnny-the-walrus-hits-1-on-amazons-lgbtq-list-his-response-is-priceless">best selling book in Amazon&#8217;s &#8220;LGBTQ+&#8221; category</a> &#8212; much to the displeasure of LGBT activists.
“I now have the number one LGBT book in the country. Any further criticism of me or my book is now homophobic,” Walsh posted to social media on Sunday morning. “Checkmate.”
He also changed his name on Twitter to “Bestselling LGBT Author Matt Walsh.”
“Folks you have to admit this is all extremely funny,” Walsh continued. “Me becoming a number one bestselling LGBT author is the twist no one saw coming.”
The author emphasized his point in an Instagram video posted Sunday, too. &#8220;Big news, I woke up this morning to find out my book, Johnny The Walrus, is the #1 LGBTQ book in the country,&#8221; he captioned the post. &#8220;I am now a leading member of the LGBTQ community, I take that responsibility seriously.&#8221;
Last week, Walsh <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-matt-walsh-launches-new-book-tackling-trans-agenda-targeting-children">spoke</a> to Fox News host Tucker Carlson to announce the launch of &#8220;Johnny the Walrus.&#8221;
“It’s all about a child,” he described. “He’s very imaginative and pretends to be different things. … And one day, he pretends to be a walrus.”
“Unfortunately, his (Johnny’s) mother is very progressive,” Walsh continued. She gets convinced by the internet “to raise her child as a walrus — as a sort of trans-walrus, respecting his ‘self-identity.’”
The mother in the story “starts to learn … just because your child is pretending to be something, doesn’t mean he actually is that.”
Not only is your child not a walrus because he says he is, Walsh said, “the book might also draw other comparisons, like maybe if a young boy says that he’s a girl, it doesn’t mean that he actually is a girl.”
“See, the point here is that biology is not malleable, it’s not relative, it’s an objective reality.”

Activists Demand Matt Walsh’s ‘Johnny The Walrus’ Be Removed As Amazon’s Top ‘LGBTQ+’ Book

As any parent who has ventured into the children’s section at Barnes and Noble knows, the category has become totally flooded by left-wing propaganda. Every other title on the shelf is “Anti-Racist Baby” or “I Am Jazz” or “Jacob’s New Dress” or “Charlie the Unicorn Has Two Mommies and Three Daddies” or whatever. A good portion of this agitprop has a racial message, but most of it is focused on gender and identity because the first and primary goal of the indoctrinators is to induct children into the religion of gender ideology.
Why is this so important? Because, as I have long argued, we are in the midst of a war over truth. These are not scuffles around the edges of truth. We are not fighting over the truth or falsehood of this or that claim. The goal of the leftist, fundamentally, is to relativize everything, relativize reality itself. He wants to be the God of his own life, his own universe. This is how he envisions freedom. This is what he means when he uses the word. Freedom in the sense of being untethered from any sort of objective, defining, or definable force, floating aimlessly in an ambiguous abyss. And if this is the goal, there is no better starting point than to undermine biological reality, freeing oneself from one’s own physical nature. And there is no better place to start that project than with children, who already have a tenuous grasp on reality and will believe pretty much anything you tell them (hence the whole Santa Claus thing).
Children have no choice but to rely on the adults around them to guide them through the early stages of life. The young of many different species have this need, to one degree or another, and sometimes in the lesser species, this vulnerability and reliance put them in danger. Rats, for example, will sometimes eat their own young. Lions and scorpions will do the same. Humans have a more ideological version of this. Helpless children are devoured by the leftist indoctrinators. The predator feeds upon the innocence of the child, exploits it, uses it to his own advantage. This is going on everywhere, especially in the books and shows and other forms of entertainment made for kids these days. For a long time, conservatives have essentially surrendered this ground to the Left, like it had surrendered almost everything else, allowing the Left to turn children’s books into vehicles for this cult-like brainwashing, without offering any response or alternative. But it’s time for that to change, which is why I have finally embraced my true calling as a children’s author — cardigan and all — and written my first work of children’s literature, “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=matt+walsh&amp;qid=1638715453&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-3">Johnny the Walrus</a>.”
It’s difficult to summarize the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=matt+walsh&amp;qid=1638715453&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-3">book</a> because it is a lengthy story of some 400 words, across 30 cardboard pages. It took me many laborious months to write. Countless nights were spent hunched over my typewriter, honing and crafting this work of literature. In brief, it is a story about a creative and imaginative young child. Like most young children, he likes to play pretend. One day, he pretends to be a walrus. He even has wood spoons in his mouth like tusks and socks on his hands like fins. But unfortunately his mommy is the confused and impressionable sort, and she learns from the internet that if your child identifies as something, then he must actually be that thing. Johnny’s mommy spends the majority of the story trying to raise her child according to his walrus self-identity. She does her level best to give her trans-walrus son the sort of walrus life she thinks he wants and needs. At the darkest point in the novel (yes, I’m calling it a novel now) she brings him to a purple haired doctor who recommends that he take medication and undergo rather barbaric surgical procedures to complete his walrus transition. Over time, though (spoiler alert), Johnny’s mommy comes to understand that just because a child pretends to be something, that doesn’t mean he actually is what he’s pretending to be.
On second thought, the summary was longer than the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=matt+walsh&amp;qid=1638715453&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-3">book</a> itself. Forget about summaries and buy a copy for yourself and 20 more for your closest friends and family members at <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/1956007059/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_TSZA9TAC9AEK1KJE96AN">JohnnyTheWalrus.com</a>. The book sold out on Amazon in a day as we rocketed to number three on the bestseller list. What this means is that I can legitimately refer to myself as a bestselling children’s author, and I have indeed been referring to myself that way all week, and will continue to do so for many weeks to come. I even gave the name “Bestselling children’s author Matt Walsh” when I ordered a pizza last night. I am going to milk this for all its worth, believe me.
Update: My title has become longer, as “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Johnny-Walrus-Matt-Walsh/dp/1956007059/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=matt+walsh&amp;qid=1638715453&amp;s=books&amp;sr=1-3">Johnny the Walrus</a>” is now the #1 LGBTQ+ release on Amazon.
