Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) took to the Senate floor on Wednesday and systematically dismantled the Democrats&#8217; latest attempt to hamstring the commander-in-chief, exposing their sudden &#8220;constitutional&#8221; concerns as nothing more than a weaponized tool of political obstruction.
As the Senate prepares for an eighth vote on a War Powers resolution concerning Iran, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and his caucus have ramped up their rhetoric, claiming President Trump has exceeded the 60-day threshold of the 1973 War Powers Act. But Barrasso was quick to provide a much-needed reality check, revealing the staggering hypocrisy of a party that only finds the Constitution relevant when a Republican is in the White House.
&#8220;What the Democrats are doing is not about protecting the Constitution; it is about obstructing the president of the United States,&#8221; Barrasso <a href="https://x.com/SenJohnBarrasso/status/2054583381560590835">declared</a>.
The Wyoming senator dropped a statistical hammer on the chamber: since 1973, there have been 17 War Powers Act votes in Congress. Out of those 17 votes spanning 53 years, a whopping 14 were launched by Democrats specifically targeting President Trump.
The partisan stench is undeniable. Barrasso noted that during the Obama administration — which saw significant military intervention in Libya — Democrats introduced exactly zero War Powers resolutions. They remained similarly silent during the Biden administration’s actions in Syria. Yet, in this Congress alone, Democrats have forced eight votes on Iran, with additional grandstanding over Cuba and Venezuela.
The timing of this latest &#8220;delay tactic&#8221; is particularly egregious. President Trump’s strategy of &#8220;peace through strength&#8221; has pushed the Iranian regime — the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism — to the brink. Iran is currently hemorrhaging $500 million a day in revenue, its oil exports have collapsed, and its leadership has been decimated.
&#8220;Only President Trump had the courage and the strength to keep his word,&#8221; Barrasso said, noting that while the president is overseas meeting with China, Democrats are attempting to &#8220;pull the rug out from under him.&#8221;
The legal argument for the resolution is equally flimsy. War Secretary Pete Hegseth and the administration have maintained that the 60-day &#8220;timer&#8221; is not applicable because major fighting has halted and a ceasefire has held for over a month. Under established Senate precedent, a naval blockade does not constitute &#8220;active hostilities.&#8221;
Barrasso concluded by warning that the world is watching — specifically Tehran and Beijing. By attempting to weaken the executive&#8217;s Article II powers — a move resisted by every president from Nixon and Reagan to even Clinton and Obama — Democrats are signaling a lack of American resolve.
&#8220;We should reject it because it’s partisan,&#8221; Barrasso said. &#8220;We should reject it because it is written by Democrats to weaken our commander-in-chief.&#8221;

NBC&#8217;s Kristen Welker pressed the top Senate Republican on the issue during the latest <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P8OkaWsVzHA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">airing</a> of &#8220;Meet The Press&#8221; after Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-takes-shock-stance-on-taxing-rich-warns-gop-against-adopting-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he would be &#8220;OK&#8221; with a tax hike on the rich to help lower and middle income workers in the &#8220;big, beautiful bill&#8221; — even as the president conceded &#8220;Republicans should probably not do it&#8221; considering the political consequences.
&#8220;I want to talk about the president&#8217;s tax bill. In order to get some of the savings needed to pass it, President Trump floated the idea of increasing taxes on the highest income earners, those making more than $2.5 million. He also acknowledged the politics are quite thorny, but, senator, would you support that? Increasing taxes on the highest income earners?&#8221; Welker asked.
&#8220;Well, I&#8217;m a conservative, and I don&#8217;t want to increase taxes on anybody,&#8221; Barrasso replied. &#8220;What you do know is that the Democrats, if we don&#8217;t get this bill passed, they&#8217;re going to raise taxes by $4 trillion on the American people. It will hit every working family in America with higher taxes. And you know, 84% of Americans don&#8217;t like what the Democrats are proposing. Our goal is to keep more money in people&#8217;s pockets so they can go to the store, pay their rent, save for retirement. That&#8217;s what our focus is &#8212; lower costs and higher wages.&#8221;
Barrasso refused to budge as Welker sought to clarify whether he was ruling out the possibility of increasing taxes on the highest income earners.
&#8220;I oppose raising taxes on anyone and the Democrats want to raise $4 trillion of taxes on everyone,&#8221; Barrasso said.
He added later: &#8220;I am against raising taxes on anyone. We&#8217;re working the bill through the process. It&#8217;s going through the House. We&#8217;re ironing out the details right now. We&#8217;re going to get a bill passed and signed by the president that&#8217;s going to put more money in people&#8217;s pockets and give them the certainty that taxes aren&#8217;t going to go up.&#8221;

Senator Marsha Blackburn (TN) introduced a bill on Thursday that would make President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization permanent, barring massing reform. 
The <a href="https://www.blackburn.senate.gov/services/files/E5F2FE62-438C-4157-98FE-439FA3126326" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bill</a> would block taxpayer dollars from either funding WHO programs or American membership in the organization unless the organization took significant steps to demonstrate independence from China and root out leftist ideology. Blackburn&#8217;s fellow Republican Senators John Barrasso (WY), Rick Scott (FL), and Ted Cruz joined Blackburn in putting the legislation forward.
“The World Health Organization has long been a puppet for the Chinese Communist Party, grossly mismanaging the COVID pandemic and taking over a billion dollars of U.S. funding without advancing our interests,” Blackburn told The Daily Wire. “We must support President Trump’s actions to hold the WHO accountable by ensuring any future president who wants to rejoin meets concrete conditions of improvement.”
The bill would codify Trump’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-orders-u-s-to-withdraw-from-world-health-organization" target="_blank" rel="noopener">day one executive order</a> withdrawing the United States from the organization, citing WHO handling of COVID and demands for &#8220;onerous&#8221; and unfair payments. 
Under certain conditions, the legislation said that it would be possible for the United States to rejoin WHO. These conditions include the WHO adopting reforms to ensure that humanitarian aid is not politicized, demonstrate independence from the Chinese Communist Party, grant observer status to Taiwan, and end funding or promotion of things like abortion, climate change, and sex-change procedures. 
Another condition would stipulate that humanitarian aid and medical supplies could not be diverted to Iran, Syria, and North Korea. 
“American tax dollars cannot be used to fund the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) and World Health Organization’s (WHO) cover-up of the COVID-19 pandemic. The mismanagement, failed transparency, and lack of independence at the WHO is inexcusable,” Barrasso told The Daily Wire. “Our bill ensures that not one penny of taxpayer money is spent rejoining the WHO if serious reforms aren’t made to prevent another failed pandemic response.”
A companion version has been introduced in the House by Republican Representatives Jodey Arrington (TX), Ron Estes (KS), Greg Steube (FL), and Anna Paulina Luna (FL).
When Trump issued the executive order last month to pull America out of WHO, he said that the country was paying too much to be a member of the United Nations-backed organization in comparison to other countries like China. 
“So we paid $500 million to World Health when I was here and I terminated it,” Trump said, adding that it “seemed a little unfair” because China was paying around $39 million to the organization. 
Trump ended American participation in WHO back in 2020, but that decision was later reversed by Joe Biden.

Barrasso Outlines GOP Senate Agenda For 2nd Trump Term

Furious GOP senators confronted Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, demanding she answer lingering questions about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump or resign.
Senators John Barrasso of Wyoming and Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee confronted Cheatle after a conference call earlier in the day, but the senators&#8217; questions were cut off.
“All of us were on the phone,” Barrasso told Cheatle. “We’re very disappointed. We were all in the queue trying to ask questions &#8230; every one of us had questions we wanted to ask.”
Barrasso continued, adding that the senators were “very disappointed&#8221; in Cheatle&#8217;s &#8220;leadership,” noting that “allowing him [Trump] to go on stage in Pennsylvania at a time when you’d already been alerted that there was somebody &#8230;” was inexcusable. He then said bluntly that she should offer her “resignation or full explanation.”
“Can you give an explanation? Why would anyone allow a president to go on stage when you know that you’ve got a potential threat and you’ve got snipers &#8230;?” Blackburn asked.
When Cheatle tried to escape the questioners by saying, “I don’t think this is the format to have this discussion,” Barrasso fired, “Well, we can find a place to go right now. As the senators followed her, Barrasso walked alongside her, declaring, “You answer to us. You answer to us.”
“You owe President Trump answers,” Blackburn demanded. “You cannot run away from your responsibility to the people of the United States. You’re the head of the Secret Service,” Barrasso added.

After the confrontation, Barrasso and Blackburn issued further statements.
“Senator Blackburn and I just went face to face with the director of the Secret Service, asking for specific answers about what happened with President Trump in Pennsylvania and how that shooter was able to get off a clear shot when the FBI with the Secret Service knew that there was a suspicious person an hour in advance of when the shooting occurred,” Barrasso said.
“And they identified a potential threat at 5:51,” Blackburn said. “She would not answer our questions. She wanted to say it was not the time or place. This is after we’ve been through a conference call today where the question queue got cut off. But I’ve got a message for her: She can run, but she cannot hide because the American people want to know how an assassination attempt was carried out on former President Donald Trump.”

After the confrontation, the Secret Service issued a statement saying Cheatle had no intention of stepping down:

A spokesman for the Secret Service initially <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/secret-service-blames-local-police-for-not-securing-roof-where-shooter-targeted-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blamed</a> Butler, Pennsylvania’s local police for not securing the AGR building from which the shooter attacked Trump.
But Butler Township Commissioner Edward Natali fired back, “The Butler Township Police Department had no security detail for this event. There were seven officers all assigned to traffic detail. Period!! The BTPD was not responsible for securing AGR or any other location. Anyone who says so, reports on it, implies it, etc&#8230;is uninformed, lying, or covering their own backsides.”

Butler Township Manager Tom Knights told <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-shooting-butler-building-security-secret-service-rcna161921" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NBC News</a> that four Butler Township officers assigned to traffic duty left their posts and raced to confront the shooter.
