Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) — along with a host of elected Democrats and media personalities — scrambled to defend ousted late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel after he was suspended indefinitely, arguing that it was a free speech issue.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/abc-pulls-jimmy-kimmels-late-night-show-indefinitely-after-charlie-kirk-comments">Kimmel&#8217;s suspension</a> — which, according to ABC, is indefinite — follows comments he made after the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. &#8220;We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,&#8221; the comedian said on Monday.
Schumer immediately identified Kimmel&#8217;s suspension as evidence that the United States was sinking into authoritarian rule.
&#8220;It is outrageous. It&#8217;s a page right out of Xi&#8217;s playbook,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is just despicable, disgusting, and against democratic values. Trump and his allies seem to want to shut down speech that they don&#8217;t like to hear.&#8221;
Schumer did not explain how he&#8217;d reached the conclusion that ABC — which had to shell out millions to Trump in a lawsuit prompted by comments made by anchor George Stephanopoulos — had become one of those &#8220;allies.&#8221;

Former CNN anchor Jim Acosta received blowback on Monday over an interview he conducted using an artificial intelligence-generated likeness of a teen killed in the 2018 mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Florida.
Acosta, who has been an independent journalist since leaving CNN earlier this year, interviewed an AI likeness of Joaquin Oliver created by the gun control group Change the Ref, founded by Oliver&#8217;s parents. The host teased the interview in a clip posted on social media.
“I’ll be having a one of a kind interview with Joaquin Oliver. He died in the Parkland school shooting in 2018. But his parents have created an AI version of their son to deliver a powerful message on gun violence,” said Acosta in a post on X.
He included a snippet of the interview in which he asked the AI-generated Oliver, “What your solution would be for gun violence?”
“Great question. I believe in a mix of stronger gun control laws, mental health support, and community engagement,” the AI emitted in response. “We need to create safe spaces for conversations and connections, making sure everyone feels seen and heard. It&#8217;s about building a culture of kindness and understanding. What do you think about that?”
Acosta responded: “I think that&#8217;s a great idea, Joaquin.”

Acosta’s use of an AI version of a school shooting victim to push a political agenda received stiff pushback online.
&#8220;Just The News&#8221; Chief Investigative Correspondent Jerry Dunleavy <a href="https://x.com/JerryDunleavy/status/1952491669162491994">called</a> the interview “deranged &amp; ghoulish.”
Washington Free Beacon investigative reporter Chuck Ross <a href="https://x.com/ChuckRossDC/status/1952475717209321948">pointed</a> out: “This is the kind of journalism that Jim Acosta is doing without the guardrails of CNN.”
“This is one of the most unhinged and grotesque things I’ve ever seen. It’s also completely in keeping with who Acosta is,” National Review senior writer Charles C.W. Cooke <a href="https://x.com/charlescwcooke/status/1952506911535902953">said</a>.
The Dispatch Editor-In-Chief Jonah Goldberg <a href="https://x.com/JonahDispatch/status/1952500970346238299">called</a> the interview “Profoundly gross.”
The pushback against Acosta’s &#8220;interview&#8221; bled over onto BlueSky, as well. BlueSky is known as a social media hive for leftists who quit X in opposition to Elon Musk’s takeover. Replies on the site were rife with disgust.

Former CNN host Jim Acosta drafted a carefully thought out plan to stop President Donald Trump from shutting out legacy media outlets like The Associated Press when it did not abide by rules set by the White House — but a closer look shows an obvious comparison in the Disney musical &#8220;Newsies.&#8221;
Acosta, who made a name for himself during Trump&#8217;s first term as a foil for then-White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, left CNN when the network made it clear he was being banished to the graveyard shift. He&#8217;s since launched an independent show.
His current beef with the new Trump administration is actually a proxy war on behalf of The Associated Press, barred from access to Air Force One and the Oval Office over a refusal to update its style guide to reflect the newly-renamed Gulf of America. Acosta can relate on a personal level, having once had his own press credentials revoked after he attempted to wrest a microphone from the hands of a White House intern.
<a href="https://jimacosta.substack.com/p/trump-white-house-harassment-of-the" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The plan</a>, he says, is simple: the press should boycott the White House altogether, denying President Trump the mass media coverage he currently enjoys:
<blockquote>Reporters and their bosses, however, need to do more. For starters, the AP should consider challenging the White House harassment of its reporters in court. News outlets then must rally to the cause, by offering supportive statements to the court hearing the case, writing op-Ed’s backing the AP, and, if necessary, refusing to cover presidential movements in solidarity, until Trump backs down.

News organizations in Washington should be banding together to send the message that members of the press will determine how they cover the news. Not the White House. Not the man behind the Resolute Desk, no matter how he redraws the world’s maps. The presidential Sharpie is not mightier than the pen.</blockquote>
So Acosta&#8217;s idea is to have legacy media rally around The AP, &#8220;refusing to cover&#8221; Trump&#8217;s movements until he capitulates.
If that sounds familiar, it&#8217;s because it could have been ripped straight from the Disney musical &#8220;<a href="https://www.valdosta.edu/colleges/arts/communication-arts/psst/documents/newsies-scene-e.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsies</a>.&#8221;
The &#8220;newsies,&#8221; who hawked newspapers on the streets of turn-of-the-century New York City, were attempting to unionize — a move opposed by newspaper giants Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst.
The newsies planned a rally, and Pulitzer issued a simple warning: &#8220;Rally till the cows come home. Not a paper in town will publish a word. And if it’s not in the papers, it never happened.&#8221;
And while Pulitzer made good on his threat and the major papers did not cover the rally, the newsies eventually published their own paper — and ultimately beat him at his own game.
With the Trump administration already moving to allow space in the White House briefing room to more conservative outlets and unconventional media, the framework is already laid for legacy media to boycott briefings as Acosta suggested — and it&#8217;s possible that coverage could still carry on without a hiccup.

Trump’s comments came hours before Acosta signed off, telling the audience, “After weighing an alternative time slot CNN offered me, I’ve decided to move on.”

Acosta said he learned during his career that “it is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant” and that, as a member of the media, it’s the job of the press to “hold power to account,” without ever specifically naming Trump.

Acosta then went on a bizarre rant, telling people to “not give in to the lies, don’t give in to the fear, hold on to the truth and to hope” before saying his plans would be revealed at a later time.

According to news reports, CNN’s Jim Acosta will leave the network after working there for almost 18 years.
During his career at the network, Acosta served as a correspondent between 2007 and February 2012, when he was promoted to be national political correspondent. He was promoted to senior White House correspondent in August 2013, then promoted to be chief White House correspondent on January 9, 2018. Concurrent with the beginning of the Biden administration, Acosta was named chief domestic correspondent and weekend anchor.
But Acosta, whose rancorous relationship with President Trump lasted the entire four years of Trump’s first term, was kicked out from his morning show this month by CNN and told he would henceforth anchor a show from midnight until 2 a.m. ET.

Congressman, you can‘t just spin a tale and pull the wool over people‘s eyes. This is CNN. This is the news. We are asking you to come on and tell the truth.”
“And that’s why more people are watching the Cartoon Network, SpongeBob reruns right now, Jim,” Burchett fired back, continuing, “Look, I left the White House during a riot. My life was threatened. My life has been threatened within the last few weeks, yet there‘s no coverage of that. And you all continue this, this narrative of attacking Trump. In his book “The Enemy of the People: A Dangerous Time to Tell the Truth in America,” Acosta declared, “Neutrality for the sake of neutrality doesn&#8217;t serve us in the age of Trump.”
In November 2020, just days after the 2020 election, Acosta fancied himself a prognosticator, telling CNN’s Anderson Cooper, “He’s been tweeting, talking about how he won this state and that state. We have to pay attention to those tweets because he’s the president. After January 20th, he just goes back to another crack pot on the Internet.”
Former CNN producer Steve Krakauer said in April 2020, “Jim Acosta wants to be famous. I&#8217;ve written before, <a href="https://twitter.com/SteveKrak/status/884142637749612545">three years ago</a>, that Acosta clearly aspires to use this opportunity to spar with President Trump, #Resistance Signal on Twitter and generally build his brand to move on to bigger things — a prime time show maybe, or at least a few late-night TV appearances. &#8230; Jim Acosta loves nothing more than Jim Acosta.”

Jim Acosta To Leave CNN After Being Booted From His Show: Report

The media are having a very tough time with President Trump taking over. A prime example is CNN, which is slashing jobs like there is no tomorrow.
According to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/media/cnn-cuts-jobs-prepares-new-streaming-rollout-2d7245cd">The Wall Street Journal</a>:
<blockquote>CNN is laying off roughly 200 employees, or about 6% of its workforce, part of a plan Chief Executive Mark Thompson says will shift the cable TV brand’s emphasis toward digital growth and prepare it to launch a streaming service.</blockquote>
Who&#8217;s going to subscribe to that? As the guy who is a co-founder of a massive streaming service, DailyWire+, I&#8217;m just wondering who is going to be a paid subscriber for CNN&#8217;s streaming offering? Who wants to do that?
The Journal continues:

Viewership is down dramatically for pretty much all of the major cable networks. MSNBC&#8217;s viewership was down 62% from its peak in the fourth quarter of 2020. Fox News is down by 27%, but CNN was down 74% from its peak in quarter four of 2020.
CNN is trying to shift their various hosts around. 
It’s like changing seats on the Titanic.

On Wednesday, CNN anchor and inveterate Trump opponent Jim Acosta <a href="https://freebeacon.com/media/beastmode-cnns-ratings-are-lower-than-spongebob-reruns-rep-tim-burchett-says/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> to Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), “I was at the White House covering the first Trump administration when they had rioting outside of the White House. I mean, that was covered on CNN. This is not Fox. Congressman, you can‘t just spin a tale and pull the wool over people‘s eyes. This is CNN. This is the news. We are asking you to come on and tell the truth.”
“And that’s why more people are watching the Cartoon Network, SpongeBob reruns right now, Jim,” Burchett fired back, continuing, “Look, I left the White House during a riot. My life was threatened. My life has been threatened within the last few weeks, yet there‘s no coverage of that. And you all continue this, this narrative of attacking Trump. You just can‘t stand the fact that he won and that America spoke.”
Jim Acosta told CNN that they couldn’t ship him to the middle of the night; he might quit. CNN answered: Would you, though? What can we do to make you quit? Anything?

Big shake-ups could be in the works for CNN as the long-running cable news network adjusts to the new media landscape and a second Donald Trump presidency — and in addition to the possibility of imminent layoffs, the network could be gearing up to shuffle around some of its longtime anchors.
CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/01/22/cnn-to-lay-off-hundreds-of-employees-post-inauguration.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Wednesday that CNN intended to announce layoffs impacting some 210 employees, or approximately six percent of its total staff. The news came alongside reports of layoffs at NBC as well, although the number of employees impacted by those is expected to be much lower. The layoffs at both networks, according to the report, are part of a shift in focus toward more digital content as fewer and fewer people turn to broadcast and cable news for information.
Along with the layoffs, anchors at CNN could also see some changes in their schedules and assignments, Fox News Digital <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/cnns-jim-acosta-getting-hosed-network-mulls-moving-anti-trump-anchor-midnights-sources-say" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Thursday — and they may not be thrilled at the prospect.

The move, reportedly pitched by CNN CEO Mark Thompson, would see Acosta moved from his current one-hour time slot at 10 a.m. ET weekdays to a two-hour slot beginning at midnight — which was described in the report as a move to &#8220;effectively exile Acosta to the Siberia of television news.&#8221;
Acosta, according to an unnamed CNN staffer, appears to be &#8220;getting hosed&#8221; by the network — and may not be given another option outside the proposed midnight slot. &#8220;Acosta is a talented broadcaster who could handle any slot on the network. The midnight thing is shocking [but] it is what it is.&#8221;

The exchange took place on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;Newsroom&#8221; on Wednesday as Lewandowski highlighted recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-data-show-hundreds-of-thousands-of-illegal-aliens-in-u-s-are-serious-criminals" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statistics</a> released by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that showed hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens who have been convicted of crimes roaming America&#8217;s streets.
&#8220;Corey, can you say that Haitian migrants are not eating pets in Springfield?&#8221; Acosta asked.
Lewandowski responded: &#8220;You know what I can say, Jim? I can say that 13,099 murderers were let into this country, 16,000 rapists, 425,000 people in the last four years have been let into this country by Kamala Harris and Joe Biden’s own Customs and Border Protection that are running around this country.”
Acosta said, “The other thing, too, it’s Kamala Harris. I don’t know. Is there &#8212; why do you guys say &#8216;Kamala&#8217;? That is, it’s Kamala Harris. I just–”
Lewandowski said, “Jim, we know that they’re committing crimes against Americans. Why can’t these individuals talk about the individuals who’ve been killed by illegal immigrants? 13,099 murderers were let into this country by this administration’s own accounting, and you guys don’t want to talk about it.”
Acosta continued to deflect from Lewandowski&#8217;s points by pestering him with questions about how he pronounced Harris&#8217; name.
“Jim, can you say 13,000 murderers are coming into the country?” Lewandowski asked.

Tyler ignored the question, instead talking about a planned bus tour to Pennsylvania and repeating Harris&#8217; claim that she would sit down for an interview by the end of August.
&#8220;One interview by the end of the month,&#8221; Acosta repeated. &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to belabor this, but one interview by the end of the month, I mean, that&#8217;s not a lot. I mean, can you commit to a press conference before the end of the month?&#8221;
Tyler dodged again, promising only to &#8220;directly engage with the voters who are going to decide this election.&#8221;

CNN host Jim Acosta cut off pro-life activist Kristan Hawkins during a Thursday morning interview, marking at least the second time in less than a week that a CNN host has cut away from a guest who did not stick to the preferred narrative.
Acosta was speaking with Hawkins, the president of Students For Life of America, about the Supreme Court&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leak-confirmed-supreme-court-rules-against-red-state-in-pro-life-case-day-after-decision-inadvertently-posted-online">latest ruling</a> that upheld a lower court decision that &#8220;will prevent Idaho from enforcing its abortion ban when the termination of a pregnancy is needed to prevent serious harms to a woman’s health.&#8221;
Hawkins, who opposed the decision, also mentioned the court&#8217;s latest ruling making the abortion drug mifepristone more accessible — and when she challenged Acosta&#8217;s claims regarding the drug&#8217;s safety, he quickly cut the interview short.

The FDA has approved mifepristone for use through ten weeks of pregnancy, and the World Health Organization (WHO) says it is safe to use through 12 weeks, but even abortion provider Planned Parenthood <a href="https://www.plannedparenthood.org/uploads/filer_public/a3/ba/a3ba7c84-e107-4683-b08d-d4dbeb030123/icf_rh_testing_and_abortion_english.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recommends Rh-factor testing</a> for women who have abortions later than eight weeks to avoid complications — and Hawkins was correct in pointing out that the increased availability of the drug makes it more likely that women will use it without testing when they should.

Acosta began with a clip of Biden referring to skyrocketing prices at the pump as &#8220;Putin&#8217;s price hike,&#8221; and asked Carville to weigh in on whether or not the president&#8217;s strategy was effective.
&#8220;Is that explanation good enough, and are Democrats losing on some of these kitchen table issues?&#8221; Acosta asked. &#8220;Do you want to give them some tough talk here?&#8221;
&#8220;Yeah, I’m going to tell you who’s doing well: Exxon, Chevron, Shell — every oil company,&#8221; Carville replied. &#8220;If anybody doesn’t think that these oil companies are manipulating these prices to their advantage, I have no idea what to tell you because you’re strictly naive.&#8221;
Carville then argued that the solution was to tax the oil companies more, and then funnel that money back to consumers — particularly those who made less than $100,000 a year.
&#8220;There’s not a single person in the United States that doesn’t think that these prices are being manipulated by these oil companies,&#8221; Carville continued. &#8220;I’m sure Putin is somewhat to blame, but believe you me, they’re riding that and the Democrats have got to show they really understand what’s going on in this economy. A lot of this is being manipulated for the purpose of profit. That’s what’s really happening here.&#8221;
Acosta pushed back a bit, asking why the White House had not done more to address the problem if oil companies were engaged in manipulating the market.
&#8220;Why hasn’t the president been more aggressive on that in terms of going after the oil companies?&#8221; he asked, going on to suggest tax rebates and other relief programs that the White House could get behind in addition to going after the companies. &#8220;Why not do something like that to get people through these summer high gas prices?&#8221;
&#8220;Maybe we ought to push this thing a little bit harder,&#8221; Carville agreed. &#8220;I talked to people that do focus groups endlessly, and they all say the same thing that they’re being manipulated and the president needs to be strong and stand up to these oil companies, and I think that he will and I think this idea is a very good idea to tax these profits.&#8221;

But in the days that followed, the woke mob continued to come for Rogan, and critics combed through his archives until they found other &#8220;problematic&#8221; comments including a number of instances in which he used the &#8220;n-word.&#8221;
Rogan apologized Saturday in an Instagram post, saying that his language — particularly around race — was the &#8220;most regretful and shameful thing&#8221; he had ever had to address.

In addition, dozens of old episodes of Rogan&#8217;s podcast were <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/more-than-100-episodes-of-joe-rogans-show-vanish-from-spotify/">quietly removed</a> from the platform, as The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-than-100-episodes-of-joe-rogans-show-vanish-from-spotify">reported</a>:
<blockquote>More than 100 episodes of Joe Rogan’s “The Joe Rogan Experience” have vanished from Spotify as the company faces left-wing backlash for providing its services to Rogan.
JREMissing <a href="https://www.jremissing.com/">reported</a> Saturday that 113 episodes of the show have been taken down, most of them late this week. Rogan <a href="https://archive.is/okoGK">reportedly</a> made the decision to pull the episodes following conversations that he had with Spotify.
The news comes as Rogan apologized for using a racial slur in old episodes of the show that he says were taken out of context in an attempt to ruin him. Rogan says that he used the slur when quoting others instead of saying the “n-word.”</blockquote>
Acosta took that opportunity to turn the attack on McCain, quoting her tweet and saying, &#8220;I&#8217;ll take tweets that didn&#8217;t age well for 500 &#8230;&#8221;
