The Biden administration buried a final draft of a study that undermined the reasoning behind its 2024 pause on approvals for liquefied natural gas (LNG) export projects, a new report has found.
Four sources within President Donald Trump’s Department of Energy (DOE) <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2025/03/18/exclusive-biden-admin-buried-study-lng-crackdown-sources-say/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the Daily Caller News Foundation that the Biden administration’s DOE finalized the draft of a study in September 2023 that found global emissions would see a reduction if the U.S. increased its LNG exports. But that information contradicted what the Biden administration wanted to do to appease environmentalists who argued against LNG, so the administration buried the study.
“The Energy Department has learned that former Secretary [Jennifer] Granholm and the Biden White House intentionally buried a lot of data and released a skewed study to discredit the benefits of American LNG,” one source told the Caller. “They were prioritizing their own political ambitions over the interests of the American people, and the administration intentionally deceived the American public to advance an agenda that harmed American energy security, the environment and American lives.”
In Granholm’s analysis of the final study, released in December 2024 – nearly a year after the Biden administration paused LNG exports – she claimed the study found that increasing LNG exports would result in higher greenhouse gas emissions around the world.
At the end of September 2023, when the original final draft version was evaluated, a Biden administration official left a comment instructing staffers to stop working on the study until further notice, a source in the Trump DOE told the Caller. That version of the study was never released to the public and was categorized as part of the internal deliberative process.
As the Caller found after speaking to sources within the DOE, numerous pages from the September 2023 draft were deleted.
“While the September 2023 and December 2024 versions of the paper bear the same name, the final version released to the public did not include a specific type of analysis of LNG exports known as the consideration of market effects, Trump DOE sources told the DCNF,” the Caller reported. “That particular analysis — included in the buried September 2023 version of the study, but not the final product — found that U.S. LNG exports would bring down global emissions by displacing more polluting sources of energy abroad, and its absence from the December 2024 version allowed the Biden DOE to skew the final report’s findings against increasing LNG exports.”
The Caller’s DOE sources said the evidence showing the Biden administration’s burying of the report was being sent to Congress and would be released to the public.
In January 2024, when President Joe Biden issued the pause on LNG exports, he and Granholm both implied they were looking for more evidence about the effects of LNG.
“During this period, we will take a hard look at the impacts of LNG exports on energy costs, America’s energy security, and our environment. This pause on new LNG approvals sees the climate crisis for what it is: the existential threat of our time,” Biden said in a <a href="https://bidenwhitehouse.archives.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/01/26/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-decision-to-pause-pending-approvals-of-liquefied-natural-gas-exports/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> after announcing the pause. “While MAGA Republicans willfully deny the urgency of the climate crisis, condemning the American people to a dangerous future, my Administration will not be complacent. We will not cede to special interests.”
But the Biden administration already knew what effects LNG exports would have.
In January 2025, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/TheFP/status/1880413292251984065" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The Free Press that he spoke to Biden about the pause, but the president, who had dropped his re-election bid because of obvious cognitive decline, didn’t seem to remember signing the pause at all.

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) slammed Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm on Tuesday for not reporting individual stocks she owned and accused her of misleading Congress when she previously claimed she did not own any.
The heated exchange, which lasted several minutes, happened during a Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee hearing.
&#8220;When you were here last, I talked with you about the fact that more than 130 officials in the Energy Department reported more than 2,700 trades of shares, bonds, and options in companies that ethics officers said was directly related to the agency&#8217;s work,&#8221; Hawley began. &#8220;This is institutionalized corruption. And I asked you point blank, &#8216;Do you own any individual stock?&#8217; And you told me, &#8216;No.'&#8221;
&#8220;Turns out that was false,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;You did own multiple individual stocks and you neglected to report it to this committee for months afterwards. Why did you mislead this committee?&#8221;
&#8220;Oh, my goodness,&#8221; Granholm responded, claiming: &#8220;I believed that I had sold all individual stocks. And I was incorrect.&#8221;
After several moments of intense back-and-forth, Hawley pushed back on her claim that she immediately notified the committee when she learned that she owned individual stock.
&#8220;Wait, wait, wait, wait, no, that&#8217;s not true, either,&#8221; Hawley said. &#8220;Let&#8217;s just look at the timeline. Let&#8217;s not&#8211;, I just remind you, you&#8217;re under oath. Madam Secretary, you testified you didn&#8217;t own any individual stocks. You didn&#8217;t sell the stocks for a whole other month. And after you sold the stocks, you waited another month before you informed this committee. Why did you mislead us? And what were you hiding? Why did you wait so long? Why did you hide this?&#8221;
Granholm insisted that she did not &#8220;hide&#8221; her false claim but later added that she didn&#8217;t know what five of the six individual stocks that she was forced to sell were.
&#8220;You&#8217;re here before this committee a year later, after actively misleading us after denying and delaying and delaying. And now you won&#8217;t tell us. Was one of them Proterra?&#8221; Hawley pressed. &#8220;You sat on the board of directors at Proterra. You made millions in end reports and stock options at Proterra then you, you promoted Proterra stock and Proterra products as energy secretary. Was that one of the stocks that you sold?&#8221;
&#8220;This is so, I mean, really?&#8221; Granholm responded.

You have been referred by the Inspector General for violations of the Hatch Act. It is institutionalized corruption that you are now the face of and here&#8217;s what I&#8217;m trying to figure out. I just want to know who really runs the Energy Department. Is it you? Or is it the mega-corporations whose stock that you own that you&#8217;re making profits in?&#8221;
Hawley concluded a few minutes later by saying she needed to resign from her department.

“Meanwhile, we have Joe Biden saying, ‘I don&#8217;t know, should we touch the Houthis? Should we not, maybe, should remove an aircraft carrier from the Mediterranean? Why do you think this thing is lasting as long as it is?’” he said.
“So Hezbollah just keeps firing anti-tank missiles into northern Israel,” he pointed out. “Why do you think they&#8217;re doing that? If the United States said, ‘Listen, one of those missiles goes awry and it hits an American, you will not exist tomorrow morning” — which is true, it’s actually the reality — the firing would stop tomorrow morning.’”

A group of Republican senators are pressing the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-energy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Department of Energy</a> (DOE) to explain what they said was the abrupt reassignment of a top intelligence official who served in the role for 11 years.
Sen. James Risch (R-ID) led a <a href="https://www.risch.senate.gov/public/_cache/files/3/8/38999307-b0ca-4ec4-80ab-2acc2ddcdc34/DD4B19E088F0E67C203454734E3C71AD.risch-gop-letter-to-doe.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> issued this week to Energy Secretary <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jennifer-granholm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jennifer Granholm</a> seeking answers to &#8220;urgent&#8221; questions raised by the personnel decision.
&#8220;On Tuesday, October 17, we received word that Steven Black, the long-serving Director of the Office of Intelligence and Counterintelligence (DOE-IN) at the Department of Energy, was suddenly and without explanation reassigned,&#8221; the letter said.
&#8220;We are told he will be taking on a new role as &#8216;Senior Advisor&#8217; in the Department. We are also aware that a study conducted by an outside contractor, which the Department has had in its possession since April, outlines disturbing findings as to the state of counterintelligence across the Department, to include the national laboratories,&#8221; the letter added.
While emphasizing the importance of the DOE&#8217;s &#8220;national security work,&#8221; citing research efforts at <a href="https://www.energy.gov/national-laboratories" target="_blank" rel="noopener">national laboratories</a>, the senators wrote that they became &#8220;deeply&#8221; concerned by the contractor study they said Congress had requested.
&#8220;If Director Black presided over DOE-IN over a period of time in which there were serious shortcomings with regard to counterintelligence, he should not be reassigned to any office within the Department that has a national security mission,&#8221; the senators wrote.
The senators asked that Granholm refrain from assigning Black to any department office until they receive answers on why Black was reassigned, whether the contractor study factored into that decision, which part of the DOE is Black expected to serve as senior adviser, when the DOE became aware of the contester study transmitted to DOE-IN on April 24, and whether Granholm agrees with its findings.
No deadline was included in the letter. The Daily Wire reached out to the DOE seeking comment.
The other senators who signed the letter included Republican Conference Chairman John Barrasso (R-WY), Senate Intelligence Committee Vice Chairman Marco Rubio (R-FL), and seven others.

&#8220;Using an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle, your Department of Energy (DOE) staff blocked off an EV-only charging station so you could stay on a schedule which was ‘painstakingly mapped out ahead of time’ because of limited, slow, and nonworking EV chargers along your route,&#8221; they added.
&#8220;In ‘sweltering’ Georgia heat, your staff’s actions caused a family with an infant child and low charge on their EV battery to call the police out of urgency while waiting at this charging station,” the lawmakers said.

Granholm, a former governor of Michigan, acknowledged <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jennifer-granholm-blames-staffs-poor-judgment-for-ev-charger-debacle" target="_blank" rel="noopener">she had seen the bad press about the debacle</a> while testifying before the House Science and Technology Committee hearing earlier this month.
&#8220;Well, I wasn’t saving a spot, but I’ll just say I have a fantastic young staff. … It was poor judgment on the part of the team,” Granholm said, adding, &#8220;I can only imagine that they wanted to continue moving, but the bottom line is that it’s not going to happen again.&#8221;
Comer and Fallon also raised other issues in their letter, including the Department of Energy&#8217;s apparent decision to exclude <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tesla" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tesla</a> and its technology from its roadtrip — which they said prompted questions about &#8220;whether the decision was politically motivated.&#8221;

According to a <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/09/10/1187224861/electric-vehicles-evs-cars-chargers-charging-energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> by NPR, during a trip promoting the Biden administration’s green energy policies, one of Granholm’s staffers on the advance team “realized there weren’t going to be enough plugs to go around” for Granholm’s electric vehicle, so the staffer parked a gas-powered vehicle to block the only free charging spot for the Energy Secretary. One family with a baby in their vehicle on the hot day in Georgia became upset with Granholm’s team and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/listen-911-call-over-bidens-energy-secretarys-comedy-of-errors-tour" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called the police</a> before another spot eventually opened up.
Granholm was questioned about the incident by Rep. Scott Franklin (R-FL) during a House Science and Technology Committee hearing Thursday, and the Biden administration official pinned the blame for the debacle on the “poor judgment” of her staff.
“Can you attest to the validity or the veracity of the situation you had a few months ago with the trip where you had a staffer who parked in a charging spot to hold position for you so you and your entourage could recharge vehicles? Was that situation true?” Franklin asked.
“Yeah, I’ve seen the reports,” Granholm answered before Franklin interjected.
“Well, you were there — regardless of reports,” the representative pushed.
“Well, I wasn’t saving a spot, but I’ll just say I have a fantastic young staff. … It was poor judgment on the part of the team,” Granholm said.
“I can only imagine that they wanted to continue moving, but the bottom line is that it’s not going to happen again,” she added.

While the local sheriff’s department couldn’t do anything about the situation since the Energy Secretary’s entourage didn’t break any Georgia law, <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/09/10/1187224861/electric-vehicles-evs-cars-chargers-charging-energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm#:~:text=It's%20not%20illegal%20for%20a,secretary%20had%20room%20to%20charge.&amp;text=This%20charging%20station%20in%20Grovetown%2C%20Ga.%2C%20was%20overcrowded.,-An%20electric%20school" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to NPR, the incident resulted in a round of mockery on social media for Granholm and the Biden administration who are pushing for increased production of EVs. The incident also highlighted the recurring problem of finding a charging station that EV drivers face as they travel long distances.
Another Biden official, Secretary of Transporation Pete Buttigieg — who owns a hybrid minivan — <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/even-transportation-secretary-pete-buttigieg-cant-find-a-reliable-ev-charger-f6c9e777" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complained</a> that he recently went to charge his vehicle at a park only to find that the charger was broken.
“Imagine what it would be like if you couldn’t be sure when you pulled into a gas station that you’d actually get gas out of it,” Buttigieg said.

As The Daily Wire&#8217;s Daniel Chaitin <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/energy-secretarys-electric-vehicle-roadtrip-devolves-into-scene-out-of-veep" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, Granholm and her entourage used a fleet of electric vehicles to journey from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Memphis, Tennessee, with town hall events along the way. <a href="https://www.npr.org/2023/09/10/1187224861/electric-vehicles-evs-cars-chargers-charging-energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm">NPR’s Camila Domonoske</a> joined the crew and released her report about the experience on Sunday.
The purpose of the trip was to “draw attention to the billions of dollars the White House is pouring into green energy and clean cars,” but Domonoske, who joined the caravan for the ride, shared how the four-day venture was not a smooth ride all the way through, Chaitin added.
During the trip, the Energy Department staff had planned to quickly charge in their &#8220;caravan of EVs — including a luxury Cadillac Lyriq, a hefty Ford F-150, and an affordable Bolt electric utility vehicle&#8221; in Grovetown, Georgia. Yet, when they got there in advance of Granholm, they realized that there weren&#8217;t enough spots to go around.
So, they used a gas-powered vehicle to hog a space. One driver who was waiting to charge her EV was so annoyed by the move, that she called the cops.
&#8220;Hi, I&#8217;m calling because I&#8217;m in the Grovetown Walmart at the charging station, and there&#8217;s literally a non-electric car that is taking up the space, they said they&#8217;re holding the space for somebody else, and it&#8217;s holding up a whole bunch of people who need to charge their cars,&#8221; the caller said, according to a 911 tape obtained by The Washington Free Beacon.

Listeners can hear the annoyance in her voice.
&#8220;There&#8217;s other people who are waiting to charge, and they&#8217;re still here, and they&#8217;re not an electric car, and the sign says you can&#8217;t park here unless you&#8217;re charging,&#8221; she added. &#8220;They said that their person is going to be here in two minutes that they&#8217;re holding the spot for.&#8221;

&#8220;[B]etween stops, Granholm&#8217;s entourage at times had to grapple with the limitations of the present. Like when her caravan of EVs — including a luxury Cadillac Lyriq, a hefty Ford F-150 and an affordable Bolt electric utility vehicle — was planning to fast-charge in Grovetown, a suburb of Augusta, Georgia,&#8221; the report said.
&#8220;Her advance team realized there weren&#8217;t going to be enough plugs to go around. One of the station&#8217;s four chargers was broken, and others were occupied. So an Energy Department staffer tried parking a nonelectric vehicle by one of those working chargers to reserve a spot for the approaching secretary of energy,&#8221; the report continued. &#8220;That did not go down well: a regular gas-powered car blocking the only free spot for a charger?&#8221;
&#8220;In fact, a family that was boxed out — on a sweltering day, with a baby in the vehicle — was so upset they decided to get the authorities involved: They called the police,&#8221; the report added. &#8220;The sheriff&#8217;s office couldn&#8217;t do anything. It&#8217;s not illegal for a non-EV to claim a charging spot in Georgia. Energy Department staff scrambled to smooth over the situation, including sending other vehicles to slower chargers, until both the frustrated family and the secretary had room to charge.&#8221;
The story drew some mockery on social media, highlighted as being a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/electric-vehicles-catch-fire-after-hurricane-idalia-flooding">encapsulation of the hardships</a> that complicate the federal government&#8217;s push for a transition away from gasoline-burning vehicles.
Scott Lincicome, the vice president of general economics at the libertarian Cato Institute, <a href="https://twitter.com/scottlincicome/status/1700911024017133707">shared</a> a screenshot of the passage about the struggles experienced by Granholm&#8217;s crew and said it was &#8220;like a scene out of VEEP,&#8221; referring to HBO&#8217;s political satire series starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus that ran from 2012 to 2019.

Domonoske noted in her report that drivers may face more issues with there not being enough chargers as the number of electric vehicles increases. She emphasized how this is particularly a problem for non-Tesla electric vehicles, as Elon Musk&#8217;s company still <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2023/07/07/ev-sales-hyundai-overtakes-gm-but-teslas-us-dominance-continues.html">dominates</a> the market in the United States, though some other automakers are embracing Tesla&#8217;s technology and its <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/electric-vehicle-charging-network-tesla-mercedes-benz/">charging network</a> is being opened to more vehicles.
Granholm, at the end of her trip, conceded, &#8220;Clearly, we need more high-speed chargers, particularly in the South.&#8221;

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm&#8217;s alleged ethics violations and failures have prompted 15 nonprofits to write to President Joe Biden on Tuesday demanding her resignation.
The coalition of nonprofits, which say they are dedicated to promoting ethics and integrity in government, said Granholm has &#8220;disregarded and de-prioritized her ethics obligations at every turn.&#8221;
&#8220;We request the immediate resignation of Secretary Jennifer Granholm based not only on her actions – her repeated apparent violations of federal ethics laws and regulations – but also on the ethics failures and legal missteps of her subordinates resulting from her poor example,&#8221; the group wrote in their <a href="https://protectpublicstrust.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/Granholm_Resignation_Coalition_Letter_Signed.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to President Biden.
One of the first ethics concerns around Granholm, who was governor of Michigan from 2003 to 2011, cropped up in 2021, shortly after she took office as energy secretary.
During her first months as a Biden cabinet member, the Biden administration promoted the electric bus company Proterra while Granholm still held Proterra stock options because she had been a member of the company&#8217;s board. She finally <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2021/05/26/jennifer-granholm-proterra-holdings-491007" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sold</a> her stock in Proterra for $1.6 million before an ethics deadline requiring her to do so.
She was also able to <a href="https://freebeacon.com/biden-administration/granholms-green-energy-millions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defer</a> paying capital gains taxes on the $1.6 million since cabinet members are not required to pay the tax on stocks they must sell in order to take office.
Last year, Granholm admitted to paying $400 in late fees for failing to disclose up to $240,000 in stock sales in 2021.
Her aides initially claimed she had not broken the law but later called the issue an &#8220;inadvertent clerical oversight.&#8221;

&#8220;The planet is warming faster than ever, the cost and impact of extreme weather events are intensifying, and yet what some people are spending their time on is a $400 late fee that was already paid on a clerical oversight,&#8221; Energy Department spokeswoman Charisma Troiano <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm-late-fees-stock-act-violation-2022-2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> at one point when Insider asked about the situation.
Then last month, Granholm <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/energy-environment/energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm-ethics-heat-over-finances" target="_blank" rel="noopener">admitted</a> that her husband owned shares in Ford Motor Company, which she did not previously disclose, claiming she only became aware of them in May. Her husband sold the shares worth $2,457.89 on May 15.
She claimed she &#8220;mistakenly&#8221; testified in April to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee that she &#8220;did not own any individual stocks&#8221; when she meant she &#8220;did not own any conflicting stocks.&#8221;
Before her husband sold the stock, Granholm filmed a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3NFGIgceMg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> promoting electric vehicles in which she rode an electric Ford Mustang, sparking concerns that she was promoting Ford.
&#8220;It’s one of two things at this point. She’s either incompetent or lying,&#8221; <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/energy-environment/energy-secretary-jennifer-granholm-ethics-heat-over-finances" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Representative Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, in June.
Armstrong added that Ford is &#8220;a company that squarely falls under her authority&#8221; as energy secretary.
On top of the alleged stock violations, Granholm also violated a law that limits political speech by federal employees, according to a government watchdog.
&#8220;The good news is that that marching and that voting gave Democrats a bare majority, but a majority, in the House, in the Senate,&#8221; Granholm <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-energy-secretary-granholm-violated-ethics-law-watchdog-says-2022-06-29/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> during a 2021 interview with the magazine Marie Claire.
&#8220;And again, I am using Democrats as a substitute for the policies that you believe in, the policies that you would like to see happen,&#8221; she said.
Granholm&#8217;s comments violated the Hatch Act, according to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel, but the agency decided not to discipline her, although further violations could result in discipline.

That&#8217;s the term the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> is &#8220;quite proud&#8221; of, but that nobody is able to define. Or, perhaps they are able to explain it, but avoid providing particulars about what it means because doing so would pop any illusion that the president&#8217;s economic and &#8220;cost-saving&#8221; policies are working.
For example, remember that gas stove crackdown that the Department of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm has long touted as being necessary to save energy and money for the American people? Well, the Department of Energy recently revised its expectations for exactly how much the average American would save under new rules, which would effectively ban nearly 50% of gas stoves off the market.
Under &#8220;Bidenomics,&#8221; consumers could save nine cents a month by ditching their gas stoves. That means you would save just shy of $11 over the next decade.
Why the change?
Well, according to the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturers (AHAM), the professionals at DOE had their initial data wrong.
&#8220;The changes in energy savings projected by DOE primarily result from DOE recognizing that the currently available cooking products are more efficient than its earlier analysis assumed,&#8221; AHAM <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-quietly-revises-gas-stove-analysis-reduces-projected-benefits" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Fox News.
This lesson really serves as another prime example of why it&#8217;s good to question the experts — despite the Biden administration&#8217;s admonishment not to do so.
Central planners like Granholm and the gang so often overemphasize a problem and upsell the promise of their solutions only to &#8220;quietly&#8221; tamp down expectations once the spotlight is focused on something else — such as the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/thanks-joe-incandescent-light-bulb-ban-goes-into-effect-this-week" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DOE&#8217;s incandescent lightbulb ban</a>. It has often been said of President Joe Biden that the lights are on, but nobody&#8217;s home. Well, starting this week, the American people can be sure that those lights will be LEDs as his administration&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-wants-thomas-edisons-incandescent-light-bulbs-gone-by-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ban on incandescent bulbs</a> goes into effect.
Back in April 2022, Biden&#8217;s Department of Energy implemented a new &#8220;cost-saving&#8221; and energy efficiency rule to supposedly combat climate change and save money for the American people. Starting Tuesday, August 1, it will be illegal to sell Thomas Edison-style light bulbs in every state across America. Companies won&#8217;t be able to manufacture them. The government claims it&#8217;s not a ban because they aren&#8217;t confiscating any existing bulbs. Instead, Biden and his gang are helping you out by inserting themselves into your daily decision-making, their argument goes.
“By raising energy efficiency standards for light bulbs, we’re putting $3 billion back in the pockets of American consumers every year and substantially reducing domestic carbon emissions,”<a href="https://www.energy.gov/articles/biden-administration-implements-new-cost-saving-energy-efficiency-standards-light-bulbs"> U.S.</a> Secretary of Energy Jennifer M. Granholm said last year.
Last week, Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) succinctly summarized the paternalizing aspect of all this.
&#8220;I’m happy the Department of Energy is out here making sure that we can all save money because we’re too dumb to figure out how to do it ourselves,&#8221; Fitzpatrick <a href="https://fox8.com/news/incandescent-light-bulb-ban-goes-into-effect-next-week/?nxsparam=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> at a hearing.
Ultimately, this new rule will take away choice from the marketplace.
It doesn&#8217;t matter if you&#8217;re like this author, who believes that the incandescent light bulb is superior to LEDs (they seem less migraine-inducing, at least based on personal experience), your government thinks it knows better than you do.

Plus, this is about being &#8220;energy efficient,&#8221; they tell us. It&#8217;s for the planet and a better future.
“The lighting industry is already embracing more energy-efficient products, and this measure will accelerate progress to deliver the best products to American consumers and build a better and brighter future,&#8221; Granholm said in April 2022.
So what will this new rule do to help the planet, exactly?
&#8220;Over the next 30 years, the rules are projected to cut carbon emissions by 222 million metric tons — an amount equivalent to the emissions generated by 28 million homes in one year,&#8221; the Energy Department said in a press release.
For context, in 2021, China<a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/239093/co2-emissions-in-china/#:~:text=China%20released%2011.47%20billion%20metric,world's%20largest%20polluter%20that%20year."> released 11.47 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions</a> — and they don&#8217;t care to cut back any time soon. But don&#8217;t worry, these incandescent light bulb &#8220;bans&#8221; will help the planet, at least according to Biden and his ilk.

The Department of Energy (DOE) <a href="https://www.energy.gov/articles/doe-proposes-new-energy-efficiency-standards-water-heaters-save-americans-more-11-billion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> on Friday a plan to crack down on home hot water heaters, part of a string of proposed rules from the Biden administration on appliances that critics warn will limit consumer power.
The new proposed rule would tighten requirements for water heaters, dictating that &#8220;most common-sized electric water heaters to achieve efficiency gains with heat pump technology and gas-fired instantaneous water heaters to achieve efficiency gains through condensing technology,&#8221; according to a <a href="https://www.energy.gov/articles/doe-proposes-new-energy-efficiency-standards-water-heaters-save-americans-more-11-billion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">press release</a> from the agency.
Such standards would save consumers $11 billion annually on utility bills and $198 billion for Americans over a 30-year period, DOE said. The regulations would also reduce greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 500 million tons during the same time period, the agency claimed. 
&#8220;Today’s actions — together with our industry partners and stakeholders — improve outdated efficiency standards for common household appliances, which is essential to slashing utility bills for American families and cutting harmful carbon emissions,” Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said in a statement. 
“This proposal reinforces the trajectory of consumer savings that forms the key pillar of Bidenomics and builds on the unprecedented actions already taken by this Administration to lower energy costs for working families across the nation,&#8221; she added.
While DOE said the proposed standards would “accelerate deployment” of electric heat pump water heaters, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-cracks-down-another-popular-home-appliance">reported</a> they would force cheaper gas heaters off the market. The news outlet noted that non-condensing gas-fired heaters are cheaper, having a smaller size and lower installation costs.
Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/thomas-massies-three-word-response-to-bidens-latest-green-energy-scheme">said</a> the Biden administration should &#8220;Leave us alone,&#8221; arguing that the proposed rule is unlikely to actually benefit many Americans financially because of the cost of equipment. 
“These products already exist in the free market,” the congressman said. &#8220;Consumers should decide whether the upfront cost of a heat-pump water heater is worth the possible long term savings. In many cases, the monthly savings never make up for the upfront cost of the equipment.&#8221;
DOE said the new rule would go into effect in 2029 if adopted within the proposed timeline. As <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-solutions/2023/07/21/water-heaters-energy-efficient-biden/">reported by The Washington Post</a>, the proposed standards could still be revised after the agency intakes public comments and holds a public hearing.
The Biden administration has finalized or proposed 18 different efficiency standards for a variety of products, DOE said. These include gas stoves, air conditioners, washing machines, and refrigerators, per <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-cracks-down-another-popular-home-appliance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>. 
&#8220;It&#8217;s just spreading to more and more appliances,” Ben Lieberman, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, told Fox News Digital. “It seems that almost everything that plugs in or fires up around the house is either subject to a pending regulation or soon will be.”
&#8220;These rules are almost always bad for consumers for the simple reason that they restrict consumer choice,” he added.
