Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe voiced concerns that he could find himself in hot water alongside indicted former FBI Director James Comey, telling CNN anchor Jake Tapper that he believed President Donald Trump was using the Justice Department to attack people he did not like.
McCabe, who joined CNN as a correspondent after he was fired in 2018 — by then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions — spoke with Tapper for Sunday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;State of the Union,&#8221; where he argued that Trump was acting solely from a place of vengeance.

McCabe went on to predict that more people would soon face prosecutions for similar reasons, adding, &#8220;His intention is vengeance. That is what he&#8217;s going after. I don&#8217;t think there&#8217;s anything that will stop him.&#8221;

President Donald Trump&#8217;s pick for Alabama Senate, former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville, trounced former Attorney General and longtime Senator Jeff Sessions in a devastating primary Tuesday night, and will now go on to face Democrat Doug Jones in November – and Democrats are already taking vicious aim.
Trump had a rather productive Tuesday night, with several key wins, <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2020/07/15/who-won-primaries-texas-maine-alabama-363200">per Politico</a>. In addition to Tuberville&#8217;s victory over Sessions, &#8220;Trump’s former White House physician, Ronny Jackson, won in Texas and is all-but-certain to come to Congress in January,&#8221; the outlet reported.
The president took a very active role in the Alabama race, likely as a way of exacting retribution on Sessions, who recused himself from the Department of Justice investigation into whether the Trump campaign had impermissibly coordinated with Russian officials to undermine the 2016 presidential election.
&#8220;[Trump] tweeted about it repeatedly over the course of the 18 weeks between the endorsement and the runoff, calling Sessions a &#8216;disaster&#8217; in the days before the vote,&#8221; Politico noted. &#8220;He met with Tuberville last month on a visit to Texas and held a runoff-eve conference call with the coach and his supporters.&#8221;
Tuberville&#8217;s victory was decisive, <a href="https://www.al.com/news/2020/07/17-of-registered-voters-cast-ballots-in-primary-runoff-sessions-wins-3-counties.html">according to AL.com</a>; Sessions won just three of Alabama&#8217;s 67 counties.
&#8220;Slightly more than 17% of Alabama’s registered voters cast a ballot in Tuesday’s primary runoff, according to the Alabama Secretary of State’s Office,&#8221; the state-based outlet noted. &#8220;Unofficial results show 626,551 ballots were cast out of 3,608,572 registered voters for a turnout of 17.36%. The greatest number of votes – 549,721 – were cast in the race for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate. Winner Tommy Tuberville received 333,890 votes, or 61%, to Jeff Sessions’ 215,831 votes, or 39.26%.&#8221;
Before the results were even finalized, though, Democrats were taking aim at Tuberville, launching a series of attacks on the former football coach, largely over rumors of malfeasance during Tuberville&#8217;s career at Auburn and his time as an SEC coach at Ole Miss.

&#8220;Tommy Tuberville said he&#8217;d leave Ole Miss &#8216;in a pine box,'&#8221; the account railed. &#8220;Days later, he left for Auburn. Never told his players goodbye. At Auburn, he had a wandering eye every year. At Texas Tech, he ditched a recruit during dinner to leave for Cincinnati. Wonder who he&#8217;s lying to now?&#8221;
Tuberville is a longshot to defeat Jones. Although Sessions was clearly not the favorite to win the Republican primary, he was generally considered to be a more reliable candidate in the general, up against Jones, the incumbent Democrat who defeated former judge Roy Moore in a special election to fill Sessions’ seat when Sessions went to serve in the DOJ.

With the Alabama Republican primary run-off election only days away, Jeff Sessions has decided to hit back at President Donald Trump after he once again weighed in and bashed his former attorney general in the process.

Although Sessions has served in the senate for two decades, Alabama voters have responded more favorably to Tuberville in recent polling. 
According to <a href="http://aum.edu/new-aum-poll-shows-tuberville-leading-sessions-senate-runoff-election">Auburn University at Montgomery</a>, 47% of Republican voters favor Tuberville, while 31% favor Sessions less than a week from the election. Twenty-two percent of Republican voters, however, remain undecided. The <a href="https://www.aldailynews.com/new-poll-shows-sessions-closing-gap-with-tuberville/">Alabama Daily News</a> reported that Tuberville held a 23% lead over Sessions back in mid-May, while at the same time, the Sessions campaign’s internal polling showed him behind Tuberville by 6 points. 
Back in May, Trump tweeted that his support of Tuberville was rooted in his distrust of Sessions, who recused himself from the Russia investigation, and also said that his former attorney general’s actions at the time “let our country down.” 
Sessions responded: “Look, I know your anger, but recusal was required by law. I did my duty &amp; you&#8217;re damn fortunate I did. It protected the rule of law &amp; resulted in your exoneration. Your personal feelings don&#8217;t dictate who Alabama picks as their senator, the people of Alabama do.”

The former Alabama senator also accused Tuberville of not fully believing in the president’s agenda, including with his stances on trade, China, and foreign workers. President Donald Trump is reportedly planning a rally shortly before the Alabama run-off election on behalf of Tommy Tuberville, the former Auburn University head football coach, in his senate bid against former Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions. 
“Two sources familiar with the plans” told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/15/politics/alabama-senate-race-trump-rally-tuberville-jeff-sessions/index.html">CNN</a> that the event will be held in Sessions’ hometown of Mobile, Alabama, where the then-Alabama senator joined Trump at a rally in 2015 to <a href="https://www.c-span.org/video/?c4548811/sen-jeff-sessions-speaks-donald-trump-rally-wears-trump-campaign-hat">praise</a> his immigration plan. Sessions formally <a href="https://www.politico.com/story/2016/02/sen-jeff-sessions-endorses-trump-219939">endorsed</a> Trump in February 2016. He was announced as the presidents-elect&#8217;s first pick for attorney general shortly after Trump’s upset election victory against former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. 
Over the last several months, multiple polls show Tuberville substantially leading Sessions, whose relationship with the president has soured over his recusal from the Russia investigation. 
An early-May poll by the firm <a href="https://www.al.com/news/2020/05/poll-shows-tuberville-leading-sessions-in-us-senate-race.html">Cynga</a>l shows Tuberville leading Sessions by 20 points, an uptick of <a href="https://www.cygn.al/tuberville-leads-in-gop-senate-primary-race/">eight points</a> since the firm’s March poll. Another poll, conducted before Trump endorsed Tuberville, showed the former football coach leading Sessions by <a href="https://www.clubforgrowth.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/CFG_Alabama_Senate_RunoffBenchmark_Poll_Memo_200311.pdf">four points </a>— but also showed that this lead would increase to 24 points if the president endorsed Tuberville. 
Sessions has repeatedly defended his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/sessions-to-trump-perhaps-youve-forgotten-alabama-trusts-me-trump-you-should-drop-out">arguing</a> that “If I, as a target of the investigation, had broken the law by not recusing myself, it would have been a catastrophe for the rule of law and for the president.” Nonetheless, President Trump has told him to drop out of the race.

Despite the fallout, Sessions endorsed Trump for the 2020 election, and expressed enthusiasm for the president’s agenda in an open letter to the people of Alabama earlier this month, reports <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/sessions-sends-open-letter-to-alabamans-on-recusal-from-mueller-probe">Fox News</a>.
“I have remained faithful to the President and his agenda,” said Sessions. “I have always stood up for him, and I never backed down, not even for one moment. My convictions are immovable, built on rock, not sand.”
In fact, when Sessions announced his run for office, he emphasized his commitment to the president&#8217;s agenda: “When President Trump took on Washington, only one Senator out of a hundred had the courage to stand with him: me. I was the first to support President Trump. I was his strongest advocate. I still am. We must make America great again.”

Report: Trump Planning Rally In Sessions’ Hometown On Behalf Of His Run-Off Election Opponent

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is running for his old Senate seat in Alabama, ripped far-left Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN)  on Friday over her call to &#8220;disband&#8221; the Minneapolis Police Department.
&#8220;The Minneapolis Police Department has proven themselves beyond reform,&#8221; Omar wrote on Twitter. &#8220;It’s time to disband them and reimagine public safety in Minneapolis.&#8221;
Sessions responded, &#8220;Radical Leftists like Ilhan Omar and the rest of ‘the Squad’ are dead wrong. Don&#8217;t defund the police. Defund the thought police.&#8221;
Omar responded by writing: &#8220;You called the NAACP Un-American and said you thought the Klu Klux Klan were okay until you learned they smoked pot. Maybe sit this one out.&#8221;
Omar&#8217;s claim that Sessions said that the KKK was okay until he learned that they smoked pot is taken out of context as Sessions has said in the past that it was an obvious joke. The people who were present when Sessions made the remark <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/fact-checker/wp/2016/12/02/jeff-sessionss-comments-on-race-for-the-record/">testified</a> that it was made as a joke.
In response, Sessions unloaded on Omar, writing: &#8220;You brushed off the 9/11 attacks as ‘some people did something.’ You&#8217;ve celebrated anti-Semitism. You have a habit of rooting for the bad guys, and you should stop unfairly demonizing our brave law enforcement officers. I for one will never sit out defending those who defend us.&#8221;
Sessions added: &#8220;How&#8217;s your brother, by the way?&#8221;
Sessions&#8217; comment about Omar&#8217;s brother references allegations that she married her brother and allegedly broke numerous laws in the process.
Omar did not immediately respond to Sessions&#8217; remark.

The two agents said they would share the information with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the US Department of Education, but did not commit to opening an investigation into the firebrand lawmaker, the source said.</blockquote>
Omar has denied the allegations, but has not answered questions or turned over documents to news organizations seeking to investigate the story, including requests from the <a href="https://apnews.com/cc2ccd70de56405098d2f259bf0e46c5">Associated Press</a>.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who is now competing to earn back his seat in the Senate in his home state of Alabama, admitted Sunday that he understands President Donald Trump&#8217;s frustration with his decision to recuse himself from a Department of Justice investigation into the Trump campaign dealings with Russian officials, but he still defends his actions.
Sessions and Trump have been locked in a social media war since late last week, after Trump took to Twitter to endorse Sessions&#8217; opponent in the Alabama Republican primary, football coach Tommy Tuberville.

In response, Sessions released an open letter, explaining his decision to recuse himself and urging voters to focus on the issues at hand and not the ill-fated Russia investigation.
The feud became a focal point of social media over the weekend, with no less than conservative commentator Ann Coulter weighing in &#8212; on Sessions&#8217; side.
In <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/columnists/jeff-sessions-a-wild-senate-race-and-president-trumps-personal-feelings">an interview with the Washington Examiner</a> on Sunday, though, Sessions said that he remains &#8220;surprised&#8221; that Trump still holds the decision against him, even after the prob e found no evidence that Trump&#8217;s campaign or transition teams illegally collaborated with Russian officials. He admits, though, that he believes Trump&#8217;s anger is &#8220;not all unjustified.&#8221;
&#8220;[Trump&#8217;s] frustration is not all unjustified. It&#8217;s becoming more and more clear that there were problems with this investigation,&#8221; sessions told the Examiner&#8217;s Byron York. &#8220;There may have been political bias. Barr is exactly right that we need to know whether commencing an investigation of a campaign had sufficient predicate.&#8221;
He still believes, however, that he was right to remove himself and allow Special Counsel Robert Mueller to move forward, even though he was ultimately forced to resign over the issue.
“Doing the right thing is more important to me than even my own political career,” Sessions said. &#8220;My conscience is clear.&#8221;
As for Trump, Sessions would prefer that he focus more on what&#8217;s best for Alabama than his own personal feelings.
&#8220;In this instance,&#8221; Sessions told York, &#8220;the president&#8217;s personal frustrations — he&#8217;s asking the people of Alabama basically to effectuate his personal feelings about this issue. I&#8217;m asking them to send a senator who can best advance Alabama values, Trump values, Sessions values, to make a decision based on what&#8217;s best for Alabama.&#8221;

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions continued to spar on social media with President Donald Trump over the weekend as Sessions runs for his old Senate seat in Alabama this fall. Early Sunday, Sessions received support from conservative commentator Ann Coulter.
Trump&#8217;s attacks come as Sessions is fighting to regain his U.S. Senate seat after he stepped down to join the administration as attorney general in 2017. Trump is angry with Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation from the get-go, a move that allowed the investigation to drag on.

Late on Saturday night, Sessions responded, &#8220;I will never apologize for following the law and serving faithfully and with honor. President Trump and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions went into the second day of their recent Twitter feud, which rekindled after Sessions publicly suggested that Trump had “forgotten” that the people of Alabama and other conservatives trust him to serve in the Senate.
“Mr. President, Alabama can and does trust me, as do conservatives across the country. Perhaps you’ve forgotten. They trusted me when I stepped out and put that trust on the line for you,” remarked Sessions, who is now running to reclaim his old Senate seat.
Trump, who blasted Sessions on the third anniversary of the Mueller investigation, responded to his former attorney general even more forcefully than the day before, telling him that he has “no courage” and should “drop out” before the July primary runoff against Republican candidate Tommy Tuberville, the former football coach at Auburn University.

Sessions, who was the first senator to endorse Trump’s 2016 campaign, has repeatedly defended himself for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, a decision that ultimately soured his relationship with Trump.

Earlier this month, Sessions defended himself from Trump’s attacks, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/08/politics/jeff-sessions-donald-trump-obligated/index.html">saying</a>, “To not recuse myself from that investigation, of which I was a target as a senior campaign official and a witness, would have been breaking the law. I do not and will not break the law. I did the right thing for the country and for President Trump. Sessions later penned an open letter to Alabama voters explaining why he stepped back from the investigation.

In a Wednesday morning speech on the U.S. Senate floor in anticipation of an expected ultimate impeachment acquittal vote later today, Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) announced that he will &#8220;reluctantly&#8221; vote to convict President Donald Trump on each of the two articles of impeachment adopted by the U.S. House: &#8220;Abuse of power&#8221; and &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hammer-at-the-new-york-post-obstruction-of-congress-is-an-utterly-ridiculous-impeachment-charge">obstruction of Congress</a>.&#8221; Jones has been viewed as one of three possible Democratic senators, along with Sens. Joe Manchin (WV) and Kyrsten Sinema (AZ), who could cross party lines and join the overwhelmingly majority of Republican senators expected to vote to acquit Trump.
&#8220;After many sleepless nights, I have reluctantly concluded that the evidence is sufficient to convict the President for both abuse of power and obstruction of Congress,&#8221; Jones said in a statement, as <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/senate/481610-doug-jones-says-he-will-vote-to-convict-trump">reported</a> by The Hill. &#8220;[A]fter careful consideration of the evidence developed in the hearings, the public disclosures, the legal precedents, and the trial, I believe the president deliberately and unconstitutionally obstructed Congress by refusing to cooperate with the investigation in any way.&#8221;
&#8220;The president’s actions placed his personal interests well above the national interests and threatened the security of the United States, our allies in Europe, and our ally Ukraine,&#8221; Jones added. &#8220;His actions were more than simply inappropriate. They were an abuse of power.&#8221;
Jones&#8217; decision leaves Manchin and Sinema as the remaining Democrats who still might join Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and the majority of his Republican caucus in voting to acquit President Trump of his impeachment charges. Moderate Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) have each announced their intent to vote to acquit the president, which leaves freshman Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) as the only Republican senator still considered to be a possible defector.
Jones shocked the political world in 2017, winning a special election over the deeply polarizing and scandal-plagued Roy Moore to secure a Democratic Senate seat from one of the reddest and <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/247016/conservatives-greatly-outnumber-liberals-states.aspx">most conservative states</a> in the country. Accordingly, Jones, who is on the ballot this November, is widely considered to be the single most politically vulnerable Senate Democrat. As The Hill notes, a &#8220;JMC Analytics and Polling survey released late last year found that 39% of voters in Alabama support impeaching Trump, compared to 54% who oppose it.&#8221;
The Alabama Senate Republican primary is a crowded field, but there is no bigger name than Jeff Sessions — the man who long held this very Senate seat before abdicating it to assume the role of the Trump administration&#8217;s first attorney general. Other candidates include Rep. Bradley Byrne (R-AL), former Auburn University football coach Tommy Tuberville, Moore, and State Sen. <a href="https://www.conservativereview.com/news/levin-endorses-arnold-mooney-alabamas-gop-senate-primary/">Arnold Mooney</a>. Assuming Moore does not prevail, whichever candidate does emerge from the Republican primary will assuredly become an immediate general election favorite over Jones.

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions stated on Thursday that if the state of Alabama re-elects him as their United States senator in 2020, he will be President Donald Trump&#8217;s &#8220;number one supporter&#8221; in the upper chamber.
&#8220;You know what the president feels about your ultimate decision two years ago, to recuse yourself from the Russian matter,&#8221; said Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer. &#8220;We are all well aware about your history together. When was the last time you communicated with him?&#8221;
&#8220;It is been some time. I haven&#8217;t talked to him recently,&#8221; Sessions replied. &#8220;We had a disagreement on that but he knows that in the Senate I was his number one supporter.&#8221;
&#8220;I was his first supporter, but more than that I was the number one advocate for the issues he ran on,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;If I go back to the Senate I can tell you, I will be his number one supporter in the Senate and I will be his number one advocate for the issues that he is talking about because they are issues that the average American cares about.&#8221;
Sessions held Alabama&#8217;s junior Senate seat for four terms before he was appointed to the role of attorney general under Trump. Trump and Sessions&#8217; relationship soured after the former AG recused himself from the investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Trump ultimately forced Sessions&#8217; resignation from the Department of Justice.
Sessions announced more than a week ago that he was officially throwing his hat into the ring and running to regain the U.S. Senate seat in Alabama that he previously occupied. While announcing his candidacy, he reiterated his support for the president and said he will largely be running on his agenda. However, Trump told reporters earlier in November that he is still unsure whether or not he will be endorsing Sessions.
&#8220;Well I haven&#8217;t gotten involved. I saw he said very nice things about me last night. But we&#8217;ll have to see,&#8221; he said before departing the White House on November 8th. &#8220;I haven&#8217;t made a determination.&#8221;
Hemmer further pressed Sessions on whether he believes Trump will ultimately support his candidacy.
&#8220;I hope so. I&#8217;m certainly going to hope that will happen and he said he&#8217;s not going to attack me in the race,&#8221; Sessions replied. &#8220;We are taking our case to the people of Alabama and they will decide who their next senator is. It&#8217;s not my seat, it&#8217;s the people&#8217;s seat in Alabama. That&#8217;s who I will be asking.&#8221;
Democrats won control of Alabama&#8217;s Senate seat in 2017 after the state held a special election to replace Sessions, who vacated the seat when he was tapped to head the Justice Department. Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL) defeated his Republican challenger Roy Moore, who faced massive blowback after allegations arose that Moore had molested a teenager in the 1970s.
Despite the controversy, Jones won the special election by less than 2% of the vote and is now considered to be one of the most vulnerable incumbent senators in the 2020 election cycle. The typically red state voted for Trump by nearly 30 points.

Jeff Sessions Vows To Be Trump’s ‘Number One Supporter’ In The Senate

Last week, former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions spoke at a Northwestern University College Republicans event. The school newspaper, The Daily Northwestern, sent two reporters to cover the event – one to cover the event itself and another to report on the protesters outside.
The paper printed photos from the event, which necessarily included photos of the protesters. Students then complained, claiming they were not only traumatized by Sessions’ presence, but also re-traumatized after their photos appeared in the paper.
In <a href="https://dailynorthwestern.com/2019/11/10/lateststories/addressing-the-dailys-coverage-of-sessions-protests/">an editorial</a> published Sunday, the Daily apologized for covering a newsworthy event and for engaging in journalism. From the editorial:
<blockquote>One area of our reporting that harmed many students was our photo coverage of the event. Some protesters found photos posted to reporters’ Twitter accounts retraumatizing and invasive. Those photos have since been taken down. On one hand, as the paper of record for Northwestern, we want to ensure students, administrators and alumni understand the gravity of the events that took place Tuesday night. However, we decided to prioritize the trust and safety of students who were photographed. We feel that covering traumatic events requires a different response than many other stories. While our goal is to document history and spread information, nothing is more important than ensuring that our fellow students feel safe — and in situations like this, that they are benefitting from our coverage rather than being actively harmed by it. We failed to do that last week, and we could not be more sorry.</blockquote>
The former Attorney General speaking is only a “traumatic event” in the minds of the students so brainwashed to believe that speech is violence and Republicans are literally trying to ensure their deaths. No Republican student would claim to feel unsafe or in need of therapy of Eric Holder spoke on campus.
The Daily also apologized for its journalism methods. The paper’s reporters used the Northwestern student directory to reach out to students via phone to see if they would want to be interviewed for an article.
“We recognize being contacted like this is an invasion of privacy, and we’ve spoken with those reporters — along with our entire staff — about the correct way to reach out to students for stories,” the paper’s editorial staff wrote.
The paper also claimed that naming students put them at risk for disciplinary action, even though the protest did not turn violent and no university in today’s outrage culture would dare discipline students for merely protesting.
“Ultimately, The Daily failed to consider our impact in our reporting surrounding Jeff Sessions,” the editorial staff wrote. “We know we hurt students that night, especially those who identify with marginalized groups.”
Going forward, the paper said it would take steps to ensure no student could ever feel hurt due to reporting. The paper’s staff said it would “work to balance the need for information and the potential harm our news coverage may cause.”
Finally, the editorial staff said it hoped it could “rebuild trust that we weakened or lost last week.”
