The NFL is facing major criticism following its announcement that artist Bad Bunny will perform at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show.
Critics are pointing out that the decision appears political as Bad Bunny, who hails from Puerto Rico, has refused to perform in the United States due to his disagreement with immigration enforcement and has openly denigrated Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, calling them “motherf***ers” and “sons of bitches” in a <a href="https://x.com/MillyMendezpr/status/1935082845803839745">video</a> he posted to Instagram in June.
The three-time Grammy Award winner said during an <a href="https://i-d.co/article/bad-bunny-puerto-rico-residency-issue-375-cover/">interview</a> earlier this month that he didn’t book any tour stops in the United States because he was worried ICE agents would target concert attendees.
“&#8230;There was the issue of — like, f***ing ICE could be outside (my concert). And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”
The singer, whose real name is Benito Ocasio, released a <a href="https://media.nfl.com/news-and-releases/music-entertainment/global-sensation-bad-bunny-to-perform-at-apple-music-super-bowl-">statement</a> Sunday about performing at the Super Bowl. 
“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history,” he said. 
Roc Nation will produce the show in conjunction with Apple Music. Company chairman Jay-Z said in a statement, “What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring. We are honored to have him on the world’s biggest stage.”
The move is being interpreted as a political statement because Ocasio has been outspoken in his political beliefs. He endorsed Kamala Harris ahead of the 2024 election. 
Bad Bunny also supports the blurring of gender roles. “What defines a man, what defines being masculine, what defines being feminine?” he <a href="https://www.gq.com/story/bad-bunny-june-cover-profile">said</a> in a 2022 interview with GQ. “To me, a dress is a dress.” The Left celebrates the singer for wearing makeup and dresses as a way to protest against traditional masculinity.
On July 4, the singer released a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KU5V5WZVcVE">music video</a> for his song, “NUEVAYoL,” which included a voice meant to sound like President Trump apologizing for his crackdown on illegal immigration. 
“I want to apologize to the immigrants in America. I mean the United States. I know America is the whole continent,” the faux Trump voice says. “This country is nothing without the immigrants.”
This, along with other factors, led to an avalanche of backlash on social media. 
Conservative activist Robby Starbuck noted how most of Bad Bunny’s songs aren’t even in English. “This is not a pick designed to unite football fans or let people just enjoy the show. It was a pick designed to divide fans, and no doubt Bad Bunny will find some way to push a woke message,” he shared on X.

Jay-Z is suing the woman who filed a lawsuit accusing him of raping her in 2000 after an MTV Video Music Awards after-party.
The 55-year-old recording artist filed a suit against &#8220;Jane Doe&#8221; and her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, just weeks after the case was dropped without an explanation. Now Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, claims in a suit filed in Alabama that the original rape claims were “false,” “malicious,” and “strategically and tactically calculated and time to inflict maximum pain and suffering,” per <a href="https://variety.com/2025/music/news/jay-z-sues-former-accuser-lawyer-sexual-assault-allegations-1236326747/">Variety</a>. 
Buzbee is the same attorney who has been filing multiple lawsuits against Sean “Diddy” Combs. Diddy is currently in a federal jail awaiting trial for alleged sex trafficking and other crimes.
Carter alleges that Doe filed the lawsuit “to obtain a payday.” The new filing notes that Buzbee sent him an “extortionate” demand letter prior to him being named as a defendant in the joint lawsuit against him and Diddy.
Jay-Z’s attorneys allege that Doe told Buzbee the rapper “did not sexually assault [her],” but say Buzbee “pushed [her] towards going forward with the false story against Mr. Carter” to extort money. 
The suit further states that Carter does not plan to reveal Doe’s identity but says he “does not commence this action lightly” and is attempting to “hold Doe accountable for her willful defamation per se and her malicious prosecution of knowingly false allegations,” the outlet added.
Buzbee issued a statement on the filing, saying the Alabama filing “has no legal merit.”
“Shawn Carter’s investigators have repeatedly harassed, threatened and harangued this poor woman for weeks trying to intimidate her and make her recant her story. She hasn’t, and won’t. Instead she has stated repeatedly she stands by her claims,” the lawyer said. 
He went on to call the proceedings “another attempt to intimidate and bully this poor woman.”
Carter has maintained his innocence since Doe’s lawsuit was first filed. “You have made a terrible error in judgment thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same,” the rapper <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jay-z-issues-denial-to-rape-claim-we-dont-play-these-games">said</a> in part in December. &#8220;I’m not from your moral world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn. We don’t play these types of games.”
Carter also expressed distress over his family being affected by the allegations, including his children.

Rapper <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jay-z">Jay-Z</a> will not have his petition to dismiss <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sexual-assault">rape accusations</a> granted, U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres ruled on Thursday.
The anonymous <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lawsuit">plaintiff</a> accused the 55-year-old recording artist and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting her when she was 13. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, vehemently denied the allegations and immediately motioned to dismiss the case. 
The judge also chastised Carter&#8217;s lawyer for “relentless filing of combative motions containing inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks [on accuser’s lawyer, Tony Buzbee],” per a court order obtained by <a href="https://variety.com/2024/music/news/jay-z-accuser-remain-anonymous-judge-criticizes-his-lawyers-1236260405/">Variety</a>. “Since Carter’s attorney first appeared in this case seventeen days ago, he has submitted a litany of letters and motions attempting to impugn the character of Plaintiff’s lawyer [Buzbee],” the document said.

The judge further described the flurry of complaints as “inappropriate, a waste of judicial resources, and a tactic unlikely to benefit his client [Jay-Z].”
Judge Torres also ruled that the plaintiff may remain anonymous for the time being, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/rape-lawsuit-against-jay-z-sean-diddy-combs-accuser-can-remain-anonymous/">reported</a>.
The Jane Doe originally filed the claim against Combs in October. It was re-filed earlier this month to include Jay-Z as an additional defendant, making him the first other person named in the multiple cases against Diddy. 
She claims that after the VMAs in 2000, Carter held her down and raped her while Combs and an unnamed female celebrity watched, followed by Combs allegedly raping her while the woman stayed and observed.
Jay-Z issued his denial via social media through his Roc Nation account, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jay-z-issues-denial-to-rape-claim-we-dont-play-these-games">reported</a>. 
“These allegations are so heinous in nature that I implore you to file a criminal complaint, not a civil one!! Whomever would commit such a crime against a minor should be locked away, would you not agree? These alleged victims would deserve real justice if that were the case,” the statement said in part.
“You have made a terrible error in judgment thinking that all ‘celebrities’ are the same. I’m not from your moral world. I’m a young man who made it out of the project of Brooklyn,” the letter went on. “We don’t play these types of games. We have very strict codes and honor. We protect children, you seem to exploit people for personal gain. Only your network of conspiracy theorists, fake physics, will believe the idiotic claims you have levied against me that, if not for the seriousness surrounding harm to kids, would be laughable.”
Combs is currently being held in a Brooklyn jail awaiting trial, which is scheduled to begin in May.

The Jane Doe said she was taken to a house and witnessed partygoers doing drugs such as marijuana and cocaine. She was given a drink, which she claims made her feel “woozy, lightheaded and felt [like] she needed to lie down.” Jane Doe went into a room and lay on a bed, she stated, which is when Diddy and Jay-Z allegedly entered the room. Combs is accused of saying, “You are ready to party!”
That’s when she claims Carter held her down and raped her while Combs and an unnamed female celebrity watched, followed by Combs allegedly raping her while the woman stayed and observed.
The plaintiff said she “grabbed her clothes” and left the party. She then called her father from a gas station.
Diddy is currently in prison awaiting his trial on racketeering and sex trafficking by force.

Buzbee has not commented publicly on the filing, but the outlet noted that the attorney wrote in the suit, &#8220;Carter received a letter from Plaintiff’s counsel requesting a mediation to resolve this matter.” Buzbee also stated that Carter filed a lawsuit against the accuser&#8217;s attorneys.

“When the roses showed up from Rihanna, we were all in shock,” Paige Oakes, director of community relations at Arcadia Senior Living Bowling Green, told <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/rihanna-surprises-older-women-tiktok_n_6407c2abe4b018d7c56da327">HuffPost</a>. “All week, we have been waiting to see if we would get a response from her.”
“We were so excited to know that Rihanna watched the video and saw our lovely ladies having fun and dancing to her music,” Oakes continued.
The clip features 11 women dressed in white outfits to reference the costumes worn by Rihanna’s backup dancers during the Super Bowl. The women all step aside to show off resident Dora Martin, 87, who is dressed in red like the Grammy Award-winning singer was during her performance. 
“I would say half were aware of TikTok, and the other half did not know what it was, so we had to explain it,” the community relations director told the publication. She went on to explain how engagement director Maitlin Nuckols made the TikTok account “never thinking” any of their content would go viral.
“We were just trying to find something new and engaging for the residents,” Oakes noted, saying they are so far “loving all of the fame and attention.”

Jeff Bezos may be angling to buy the Washington Commanders, according to multiple reports.
Sources close to Bezos told People magazine and the Washington Post that Bezos, the second richest man in the world and founder of Amazon, is interested in buying the team, after it was announced that team owner Dan Synder was exploring potential transactions for the team. Snyder and the Commanders have been embroiled in a series of scandals in recent years, some of which have made the company a target of Congressional investigations.
The source told <a href="https://people.com/sports/jeff-bezos-interested-buying-washington-commanders-source/?utm_campaign=peoplemagazine&amp;utm_content=new&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter.com&amp;utm_term=6363ed0b96327400011278e4" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a> that Bezos was &#8220;looking into buying the Washington Commanders.&#8221; Bezos may also be inclined to include rapper Jay-Z in his purchase.  A separate source confirmed People&#8217;s report to the <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2022/11/03/jeff-bezos-jay-z-washington-commanders/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Washington Post</a>. The source also said that both Bezos and Jay-Z were interested in buying the team, but he did not know whether or not the two moguls would partner on their offer.
Bezos has previously expressed interest in owning an NFL franchise. A <a href="https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-playoff-picture-after-eight-weeks-predicting-final-seeding-ravens-take-advantage-of-remaining-schedule/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CBS Sports</a> report from 2019 said that Bezos had &#8220;become close with several current owners &#8230; and [had] strong support within the league to eventually join their ranks.&#8221; Snyder was one of the NFL owners Bezos had interacted with, CBS reported. Bezos had previously been rumored to be interested in buying the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-jeff-bezos-may-buy-seattle-seahawks-nfl-team-report-2019-11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Seattle Seahawks</a> after owner Paul Allen died in 2018. Meanwhile, Amazon, the company Bezos founded and serves as executive chairman of, currently holds exclusive broadcasting rights to &#8220;Thursday Night Football.&#8221;
Jay-Z previously owned a stake in the NBA&#8217;s Brooklyn Nets from 2004-2013. The rapper&#8217;s entertainment firm, Roc Nation, <a href="https://www.nfl.com/news/jay-z-s-roc-nation-entering-partnership-with-nfl-0ap3000001041162#:~:text=Roc%20Nation%2C%20the%20entertainment%20company,the%20league's%20social%20justice%20efforts." target="_blank" rel="noopener">partnered</a> with the NFL in 2019 to provide entertainment for live game experiences, including selecting talent for Super Bowl halftime shows and partnering with the NFL&#8217;s social justice initiatives.
Commanders owner Dan Snyder announced <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/storied-nfl-franchise-goes-on-block-could-fetch-5b-or-more" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wednesday</a> that he and wife Tanya Snyder hired Bank of America Securities to &#8220;consider potential transactions&#8221; for the team, which could include adding a minority owner or selling the team outright. The team could fetch up to $5 billion on the market.
Earlier this year, <a href="https://www.sportico.com/feature/nfl-team-values-ranking-list-1234684165/">Sportico</a> listed Washington as the league’s eighth-most-valuable franchise, at $4.78 billion. Snyder bought a majority interest in the team in 1999 for $800 million and last year consolidated full ownership. The team was founded in 1932 as the Boston Braves, but moved to Washington five years later and was rechristened the Washington Redskins. In 2020, under pressure from activists, the team dropped the name and was known for the next two years as simply The Washington Football Team. This season, it unveiled its current name.
Snyder, 57, made his fortune in indoor advertising and marketing. His tenure as an NFL owner has been stormy, marked by a losing record and only a few brief playoff appearances. In addition, a 2021 investigation into the team’s workplace culture, prompted by an explosive Washington Post report alleging rampant sexual harassment, uncovered <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nfl-cheerleaders-blast-leagues-sexist-culture-following-topless-email-scandal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incidents of harassment</a>, bullying, and intimidation throughout the organization.
The team was fined $10 million by the league, and Snyder was forced to relinquish his role in running the team’s day-to-day operations.
If the team is sold, it could be the second team under new ownership in less than a year. An ownership group led by Walmart heir S. Robson Walton purchased the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/report-walmart-heir-expected-to-buy-denver-broncos-for-4-5-billion-largest-sports-team-purchase-in-history" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Denver Broncos</a> for $4.5 billion in June, the largest purchase of a sports team in history.

Internet entrepreneur <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jack-dorsey">Jack Dorsey</a> and rapper <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jay-z">Jay-Z</a> are raising eyebrows over their initiative to teach people in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-city">Brooklyn</a> public housing about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/cryptocurrency">cryptocurrency</a>.
<a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/bitcoin">Bitcoin</a>, a form of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-exactly-is-bitcoin-heres-how-the-worlds-largest-cryptocurrency-actually-works">decentralized digital money</a> that can be transferred between users’ virtual wallets, was among several cryptocurrencies to plummet in price over the last few months. The digital coin’s price fell from around $48,400 at the end of December to roughly $20,600 as of Wednesday.
Nevertheless, Jay-Z and Dorsey are personally funding the “Bitcoin Academy” — an initiative for residents in Marcy Houses public housing complex in New York to learn about cryptocurrencies. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, grew up in Marcy Houses.
“Bitcoin is becoming a critical tool for many in Africa and Central and South America,” Dorsey, currently serving as CEO of financial services company Block, <a href="https://twitter.com/jack/status/1534894502179180544">tweeted</a> last week. “We believe the same potential exists within communities in the US. Our goal is to prove that making powerful tools more available to people enables them to build greater independence.”
As Dorsey mentioned, El Salvador became the first nation to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/el-salvador-makes-history-becomes-first-country-to-make-bitcoin-legal-tender">adopt</a> Bitcoin as a form of legal tender last summer. According to El Salvador’s government, the use of the cryptocurrency could fuel “financial inclusion,” noting that &#8220;70% of its population doesn&#8217;t have access to traditional financial services.” Last month, El Salvador <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/09/el-salvador-buys-500-bitcoin-as-crypto-market-sell-off-continues.html">bought</a> $15.5 million in Bitcoin at nearly $31,000 — meaning that the nation lost more than one-third of its investment amid the most recent selloff.
“The vision for Bitcoin is that it doesn’t have barriers, but lack of access to financial education is a barrier,” the Bitcoin Academy website <a href="https://thebitcoinacademy.com/">says</a>. “This program aims to provide education, empower the community with knowledge, and get rid of some of the barriers so that residents can learn more about Bitcoin specifically and finance in general.”
The program will give residents MiFi devices, serve dinner twice per week through the summer, and offer a special “Crypto Kids Camp.”
Some, however, questioned whether Bitcoin is the best investment for those struggling to make ends meet given the uncertainty that characterizes the cryptocurrency space.
“They’re saying you’re going to have financial freedom, but that also means you’re getting access to cryptocurrency’s volatility and complexity,” Brookings Metro fellow Tonantzin Carmona <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2022/06/09/jay-z-jack-dorsey-bitcoin-academy-marcy-public-housing/">told</a> TechCrunch. “You’re getting access to a space that is rife with scams, fraud, hacks and all sorts of things, because there aren’t consumer protections in place as the technology currently stands.”
Earlier this week, cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/crypto-winter-coinbase-to-lay-off-nearly-one-fifth-of-staff">revealed</a> concerns about a looming recession and “crypto winter,” announcing that the company would therefore lay off nearly one-fifth of its staff.
“While it’s hard to predict the economy or the markets, we always plan for the worst so we can operate the business through any environment,” Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said. “Coinbase has survived through four major crypto winters, and we’ve created long term success by carefully managing our spending through every down period. Down markets are challenging to navigate and require a different mindset.”
Despite skepticism, cryptocurrencies remain popular among younger Americans. The 2022 Investopedia Financial Literacy Survey <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/gen-z-millennials-are-relying-on-crypto-for-their-retirements">revealed</a> that 28% of Millennials — those between the ages of 26 and 41 — expect to use cryptocurrencies to support themselves in their latter years. Nearly 20% of Gen Z — those between 18 and 25 — said the same.

Roc-A-Fella Records — the record label founded by Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, Damon “Dame” Dash, and Kareem “Biggs” Burke in 2013 — has sued Dash, alleging that the co-founder was attempting to sell a non-fungible token (NFT) of Jay-Z&#8217;s 1996 album, “Reasonable Doubt.”
“The clock is ticking. Dash had planned to sell at a SuperFarm Foundation online auction on June 23, 2021, the copyright to Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt, recognized as one of the greatest recordings in history,” the <a href="https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.nysd.562168/gov.uscourts.nysd.562168.1.0.pdf">lawsuit</a> states. “That auction was canceled, and Dash is currently frantically scouting for another venue to make the sale. It’s not a matter of if, only when. But Dash does not even own Reasonable Doubt or its copyright and, therefore, has no right to sell the album or any rights to it. Instead, RAF, Inc. owns all rights to Reasonable Doubt. The sale of this irreplaceable asset must be stopped before it is too late, and Dash must be held accountable for his theft.”
“During the past year, the market for non-fungible tokens, also called ‘NFTs,’ has exploded,” the lawsuit explained. “A non-fungible token is a unit of data that is ‘minted’ and stored on a digital ledger, called a blockchain, that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. Simply put, it is a digit asset recorded on the blockchain that shows proof of ownership. NFTs can be created to transfer ownership of virtually any asset — from visual art to sporting event tickets, to copyrights. NFTs can be freely bought and sold like any other asset, and some NFTs have traded for tens of millions of dollars. SuperFarm owns an online platform that mints and sells NFTs to the public.”
The lawsuit then alleges that “Dash saw an opportunity in this emerging NFT market.”
“The rights to Reasonable Doubt are highly valuable and unique. They can be used to create derivative works and generate significant financial and non-financial benefits. There is only one Reasonable Doubt — the rights to it are irreplaceable,” the lawsuit stated. “Dash knew this and sought to cash in by auctioning the copyright to Reasonable Doubt as an NFT. Though the original auction was canceled, it is believed that Dash has already minted an NFT, which he intends to sell through another auction or some other means as soon as possible”
“But, again, Dash does not own Reasonable Doubt or the rights he is unlawfully seeking to sell. And Dash’s status [as a] minority shareholder in RAF, Inc., gives him no right to sell a company asset,” the lawsuit concluded. “The bottom line is simple: Dash can’t sell what he doesn’t own. By attempting such a sale, Dash has converted a corporate asset and has breached his fiduciary duties. His planned auction of Reasonable Doubt would result in irreparable harm. The Court should stop Dash from attempting to sell the copyright to Reasonable Doubt, require Dash to return the NFT of Reasonable Doubt to RAF, Inc., and hold him accountable for this brazen theft of RAF, Inc.’s most prized asset.”
<a href="https://www.tmz.com/2021/06/20/damon-dash-jay-z-roc-a-fella-records-reasonable-doubt/">TMZ</a> reported that Dash described the lawsuit as inaccurate and that he is trying to sell his minority share in RAF, and not the album itself.
“Under the terms of the deal with a potential buyer, the buyer would buy my share of Roc-a-Fella Records and Jay-Z will have exclusive administration rights” to the album, Dash told TMZ.

Major Lawsuit Claims Record Label Co-Founder Tried To Auction Jay-Z’s First Album ‘Reasonable Doubt’ As NFT

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its inductees for this year, noting that it is the most diverse class in its history.
Rolling Stone <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/tina-turner-jay-z-foo-fighters-go-gos-rock-roll-hall-of-fame-2021-1168001/">reported</a> that joining the class of 2021 in the Performers category are Foo Fighters, The Go-Go’s, Jay-Z, Carole King, Todd Rundgren, and Tina Turner.
“This is our most diverse class in the history of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” said chairman John Sykes, who is also IHeartMedia’s President of Entertainment Enterprises. “It really represents the Hall’s ongoing commitment to honor the artists that have created not only rock and roll but the sound of youth culture.” 
Dave Grohl, Tina Turner, and Carole King will enter the Hall of Fame for the second time. Rolling Stone reported, “King was inducted along with her former songwriting partner Gerry Goffin in 1990 as a non-performer, Tina Turner entered in 1991 as half of the Ike &amp; Tina Turner duo, and Grohl was brought in as Nirvana’s drummer in 2014.”
“It’s very difficult to get inducted twice and we have three this year,” said Sykes. “It’s also a rare year where three of the six inductees are women: Tina, Carole, and the Go-Gos. It just shows the continued power and relevance and recognition of women in music.”
This year, there are more inductees outside of the Performers category than the event usually includes. The outlet reported that while most years there are two or three of those inductees, this year will have seven.
“That’s because we’ve really created, for the first time this year, special committees that actually nominate and induct artists,” said Sykes. “These are very diverse committees that actually include artists themselves like [Run-DMC’s] Darryl McDaniels, Little Steven, and Tom Morello.”
LL Cool J, Billy Preston, and Randy Rhoads will get the Musical Excellence Award while Kraftwerk, Gil Scott Heron, and Charley Patton will receive the Early Influence Award. Sussex Records founder Clarence Avant will get the Ahmet Ertegun Award.
Rolling Stone said that LL Cool J and Kraftwerk were both nominated six times in past years, but did not get through with the regular procedures. Giving them the Musical Excellence and Early Influence awards allows them to go around the voters.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, many are eager to get back to in-person events after the world adapted to a mostly virtual environment over the past year. Induction ceremonies in the past have taken place at the Public Hall, which seats 10,000 people. This year, however, the event is being moved to the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse which seats 20,000 people.
“We just needed more room,” said Sykes. “Tickets go so fast and we wanted to have as many people from the Cleveland area be able to attend the show as possible.”
Sykes discussed the ceremony in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and a return to normalcy. “I think we’re going to see this fall as the very beginnings of the reopening of live music in America,” said Sykes, who noted that the event will comply with COVID-19 guidelines. “An event like the Rock and Roll of Fame induction ceremony will be a precursor of what we’re all looking forward to getting back to in 2022.”
