Last October, then-Attorney General Jason Miyares (R-VA) warned Democrats that their unconstitutional redistricting gamble would do little more than waste the taxpayers&#8217; time and money.
The Virginia Supreme Court ruled on Friday that the newly-drawn congressional map — which skews dramatically in favor of Democrats — is flagrantly unconstitutional. But when all was said and done, as Miyares pointed out, the measure had already run up a $70 million tab — some of which was to be paid by taxpayers.
HB 1384, the amendment that set the special election, set aside $5 million of taxpayer money in order to pay for that election — but it did not cap the amount, meaning that supplemental funding may have been added to that as needed.
In addition to the taxpayer dollars, millions were spent on ads promoting the measure.
&#8220;If Abigail Spanberger and Virginia Democrats had paid attention my October 2025 AG’s Opinion that made clear this scheme was unconstitutional and illegal, they could have saved more than $70 million, countless headaches, and months of obnoxious television ads defending the indefensible,&#8221; Miyares said in a statement posted to X. &#8220;Instead, they ignored the law, wasted taxpayer money on running a special election, and dragged Virginians through a completely avoidable mess.&#8221;

Miyares issued his opinion on October 28, 2025, saying in part, &#8220;My office just issued an official opinion explaining that the constitutionally required process to amend the Virginia Constitution cannot be short-circuited by a last-minute vote of the General Assembly taken during an ongoing election.&#8221;

The Virginia Supreme Court ultimately <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/virginia-supreme-court-strikes-down-redistricting-in-brutal-blow-to-democrats">agreed with Miyares</a>, ruling on Friday 4-3 that irregularities in the process had resulted in a new map that would not stand.
&#8220;In this case, the Commonwealth submitted a proposed constitutional amendment to Virginia voters in an unprecedented manner that violated the intervening-election requirement in Article XII, Section 1 of the Constitution of Virginia,&#8221; the Court held, adding, &#8220;This violation irreparably undermines the integrity of the resulting referendum vote and renders it null and void.&#8221;
So the Commonwealth of Virginia is right back where it started — albeit a bit poorer — for the Democrats&#8217; efforts to put a thumb in the midterm scales.

Former President Barack Obama hit the campaign trail in Virginia on Saturday, speaking on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger and standing on the same stage as scandal-plagued attorney general nominee Jay Jones.
With the general elections just three days away, Obama stumped alongside Jones — who made headlines over resurfaced texts in which he advocated for the assassination of then-state House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, and suggested that he and his wife should have to watch one of their young children die.
Obama spoke largely on Spanberger&#8217;s behalf, claiming that she would faithfully represent all of Virginia and arguing that she would engage in civil discourse without name-calling or demonization.

Obama did not mention the fact that Spanberger, despite condemning Jones&#8217; texts early on, had stopped short of saying that his comments should bar him from holding office. He also did not mention Jones&#8217; obvious contribution to that feeling of brokenness in political discourse.
Spanberger herself raised some of the same points as the former president, speaking about how she was ready and willing to work with everyone: &#8220;As Governor, I will work with anyone and everyone to get the job done for Virginians.&#8221;

A Kent County, Virginia, judge has reportedly greenlit a special counsel to take over an investigation into Democratic candidate for state attorney general Jay Jones’ 2022 reckless driving case.
Judge Elliott Bondurant has approved a request from Kent County Commonwealth Attorney Scott Renick, who sought to recuse himself from the investigation because of an unknown conflict, according to <a href="https://www.nationalreview.com/news/special-prosecutor-appointed-in-investigation-into-jay-jones-reckless-driving-conviction/">National Review</a>. The special counsel appointment is the latest wrinkle in a case believed to have been settled until Renick’s office revisited it earlier this month.
In 2022, Jones was caught traveling 116 mph in a 70 mph zone. Jones’ avoided jail time, though he was fined $1,500 and ordered to complete 1,000 hours of community service. In January of 2024, Jones submitted letters to the court that said he completed his community service requirement with 500 hours for the NAACP and 500 hours for Meet Our Moment.
Earlier this month, Renick began looking into how Jones completed his community service hours, according to <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/prosecutor-investigates-jay-jones-community-service-after-reckless-driving-conviction-new-kent-county-commonwealths-attorney-virginia-democrat-candidate">ABC 7</a>.
Meet Our Moment is Jones’ own political action committee, a relationship that was not reflected in the documents Jones submitted to the court to satisfy his community service requirement. The political nature of the group also raises questions about the validity of the time claimed toward his community service requirement, according to ABC 7.
In order to have completed his community service within the timeframe, Jones would have had to work 10 hours every week for each group, all while working full time for the law firm Hogan Lovells, according to National Review. Jones also spent much time in 2023 on the road campaigning for other Democrats.
On Wednesday, Jones’ Republican opponent, state Attorney General Jason Miyares, renewed his call for the Democrat to drop out.
“Jay Jones had already disqualified himself with his violent text messages fantasizing about the death of his political opponent and their young children. Now we learn that he may have misled the courts to avoid jail time after recklessly driving 116 miles per hour on one of the most dangerous stretches of interstate in Virginia,” Miyares said in a statement.
“It is not possible for Jay Jones to fulfill the duties of this office while under an open criminal investigation. If Jay Jones stays in the race, it shows a contempt for voters never seen in modern Virginia political history,” he continued.
Jones has continued to trail Miyares in polls while <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-how-jay-jones-text-scandal-may-blow-up-dem-chances-in-virginia">dragging</a> down other Democrats in Virginia along with him, after messages Jones sent in 2022 about then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert were revealed. Jones had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/read-them-virginia-dem-sent-shocking-texts-about-killing-gop-leader-pissing-on-graves">wished</a> harm against Gilbert and his children, saying that, “Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy.”

After Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares squared off against Jay Jones on the debate stage Thursday, Miyares appeared on Fox News to blast his Democrat opponent.
“If Jay Jones was applying to be a line prosecutor in my attorney general’s office — in fact, any attorney general’s office in all 50 states — he wouldn’t pass the background check for the job,” Miyares said on <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/media/tv/jay-joness-gop-opponent-burns-dem-ag-candidate-over-violent-fantasies-he-wouldnt-pass-the-background-check/">America Reports</a>.
During Thursday&#8217;s debate, Miyares repeatedly brought up text messages that Jones sent in 2022 in which he wished death on former Virginia House of Delegates Speaker Todd Gilbert, said Gilbert and his wife were “breeding little fascists,” and claimed he would like to “piss” on Republican graves, among other horrifying statements.
“I’m ashamed, I’m embarrassed, and I’m sorry,” Jones <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/10/16/virginia-jones-apology-attorney-general-00612739">said</a> on the debate stage — to which Miyares <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFv8bFlgTdw">responded</a> that if he were truly sorry, he would not be running for attorney general.
Miyares also brought up the fact that in 2022, Jones was convicted of reckless driving for going 116 mph in a 70 mph zone — but essentially walked for it.
“There were four people in court that day, all going around the same speed,” Miyares said on Fox News. “Three of those four people got active or suspended jail time. The only person that didn’t was Jay Jones because he’s a politician, and then he did the community service hours…for his own political action committee, which obviously isn’t a charity.”

According to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jay-jones-walked-on-speeding-charge-that-landed-others-in-jail?author=Virginia+Kruta&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Jay+Jones+Walked+On+Speeding+Charge+That+Landed+Others+In+Jail">data</a> reviewed by <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/virginia-residents-jail-time-reckless-driving-jay-jones-community-service-virginia-democrat-attorney-general-candidate-new-kent-county-speeding">7News,</a> Jones appears to have been handled with kid gloves by the court system in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and others who committed similar infractions have faced much steeper consequences.
Reporter Nick Minock found that others who were convicted of similar speeding infractions — in approximately a dozen cases — often faced jail time in addition to fines and suspended licenses.
The text scandal appears to have moved the needle significantly in the race for Virginia attorney general. In polls from June to late September, Jones was leading Miyares consistently, but after the scandal broke, polling has shifted with Miyares now 0.3% ahead of Jones, according to the <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/attorney-general/general/2025/virginia/miyares-vs-jones">RealClearPolitics</a> polling average.
Democratic gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger has also come under pressure due to the fallout from the texts. Her opponent, Virginia Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears, released a scathing ad featuring Spanberger refusing to comment when confronted with Jones’ remarks.

In the wake of a still-unfolding text scandal involving his Democratic opponent, state Attorney General Jason Miyares (R-VA) laid out what is really at stake in the coming election: what will happen to the &#8220;Virginia Way&#8221;?
Miyares spoke with The Daily Wire by phone on Tuesday, four days after a series of 2022 texts — sent by Democratic nominee Jay Jones to a Republican colleague — went viral, and he questioned whether the traditional collegial relationship between Virginia politicians, regardless of party, could survive the mindset behind them.
In the texts in question, sent to Republican Delegate Carrie Coyner, Jones had fantasized about the assassination of then state-House Speaker Todd Gilbert, a Republican, and declared that Gilbert would never change his political positions unless he and his wife were forced to watch one of their children die. He also said he&#8217;d like to &#8220;piss on the graves&#8221; of his political opponents.
&#8220;The &#8216;Virginia Way&#8217; has always been the idea that even though Washington might not be civil at times, [members of both parties in] Richmond will be civil with each other,&#8221; Miyares said. &#8220;That’s part of why what Jay Jones has done is so troubling.&#8221;
&#8220;He knows Jennifer Gilbert, that’s not a stranger. Todd would bring his children to the assembly, so when he sent those text messages, they were only two and five years old at the time,&#8221; Miyares explained. &#8220;So this is not some type of hypothetical; this is someone that he worked with, this was a colleague. Then to say that he wanted to see two bullets in his head and then imagine saying that the children would die in their mother’s arms — this was not a stranger. He’s met the mother, he’s met the children, and in his mind, pain is the only way that change happens. That is a — I don’t know how to get my arms around that.&#8221;
Miyares said several times that it was difficult for him to fathom the mindset behind the texts Jones sent — the idea that violence was a reasonable reaction to political opposition.
&#8220;I think this election now is really a referendum on the Virginia Way,&#8221; he observed. &#8220;Is it now dead? Because I could tell you ten years ago, it would have been unquestioned, not in a million years would anybody even consider — but there seems to be this mindset that power is more important than decency.&#8221;
He went on to remark that it wasn&#8217;t just Jones — there seemed to be an abundance of Democrats who were willing to say that what Jones texted had been bad, unconscionable even, but those same people were unwilling to say that such comments should disqualify Jones from holding public office.
Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D-VA), for example, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, called for former Governor Ralph Northam (D-VA) to resign over a 20-year-old blackface photo in a college yearbook — but she couldn&#8217;t bring herself to call for the resignation of a current candidate who&#8217;d called for the assassination of a colleague over political differences.
&#8220;Don’t forget the context of this,&#8221; Miyares added. &#8220;Jay was upset that Republicans had done a eulogy and said nice words in remembrance of a Democratic colleague and his reaction was that he wanted to ‘piss on the graves’ of his political opponents.&#8221;
Miyares, who is of Cuban descent, said that was the reason he found Jones&#8217; mindset so abhorrent – because he came from a &#8220;society where they would use violence to silence opinions.&#8221;
&#8220;Ideas were seen as so dangerous that it was morally excused to use violence to silence them. We said a long time ago in this country that we’re going to settle our debates at the ballot box and not with bullets,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The idea that somebody is seeking to be the top prosecutor — he’s never prosecuted a case in his life and would advocate violence against somebody he disagrees with and would want to piss on the graves of his opponents — I can’t imagine anybody in polite society thinking that’s acceptable.&#8221;
&#8220;My uncle Angel Miyares was arrested during the Bay of Pigs invasion,&#8221; Miyares recalled. &#8220;Castro arrested anybody that he thought could rise up against him on the island, and he was taken to an empty baseball stadium and he went through the humiliation of a mock execution. What was his crime? Ideas. His crime was simply — he was handing out anti-Castro leaflets in Havana. And he got put on Castro&#8217;s secret police radar, and they arrested him. When you suddenly take away someone’s individual dignity, their humanity, and you think that politics trumps their individual dignity, I can&#8217;t help that. I can&#8217;t – it is so outside of my worldview.&#8221;
Miyares brought the conversation back around to the &#8220;Virginia Way&#8221; and the idea that politics should not ever be an excuse to resort to violence.
&#8220;I view it as it’s not just me on the ballot this year, I view it as the &#8216;Virginia Way&#8217; and the idea that we are going to — yes, we will have a basic standard of decency in politics today, and I think that’s on the ballot,&#8221; he said.
His final thought on Jones was a question about whether or not he was suited to the office of attorney general.
&#8220;Crime does not know partisanship. Being the people’s protector means I protect everyone,&#8221; Miyares explained, adding that he wasn&#8217;t sure how someone who openly called for a political opponent&#8217;s assassination could approach the job in a way that did not reflect that. &#8220;I think it&#8217;s safe to say that where he is is a very different mindset.&#8221;

President Donald Trump called out Virginia Democrat Jay Jones over nasty text messages he sent in 2022 — in which he suggested that then-Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert should be shot — and said that Jones should do the right thing and resign his campaign.
Trump made the <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/115322323424244142">statement</a> on Sunday via his Truth Social platform, and in addition to calling on Jones to resign from the campaign, he declared that current Attorney General Jason Miyares (R-VA) had his full support in the race.
&#8220;It has just come out that the Radical Left Lunatic, Jay Jones, who is running against Jason Miyares, the GREAT Attorney General in Virginia, made SICK and DEMENTED jokes, if they were jokes at all, which were not funny, and that he wrote down and sent around to people, concerning the murdering of a Republican Legislator, his wife, and their children,&#8221; Trump posted.
The president went on to note that Virginia Democrats were not doing enough to distance themselves and the party from Jones and his previous statements.
&#8220;Abigail Spanberger, who is running for Governor, is weak and ineffective, and refuses to acknowledge what this Lunatic has done. Jones made national headlines on Friday when a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/reject-the-insanity-winsome-sears-hits-virginia-dems-with-ad-highlighting-vile-jay-jones-texts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">series of his texts</a> from 2022 were published.
&#8220;Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” Jones texted to Del. Carrie Coyner (R) at the time. “Spoiler: put Gilbert in the crew with the two worst people you know and he receives both bullets every time.&#8221;
Jones also stated in another text that he would attend the funerals of Republican lawmakers in order to &#8220;piss on their graves,&#8221; and claimed that Gilbert would not be moved to change his political positions unless he and his wife had to watch one of their own children die.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti and Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares sued the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ncaa" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NCAA</a> on Wednesday, accusing the organization of antitrust violations related to its name, image, and likeness (NIL) policies.
According to the <a href="https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/attorneygeneral/documents/pr/2024/pr24-10-NCAA.Antitrust.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lawsuit</a>, filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee on Wednesday, the NCAA has been “artificially depressing” the amount of compensation prospective student-athletes can earn through NIL deals and their ability to negotiate those deals.
“This is all about protecting student athletes and prospective student athletes in making sure that they have market sources available to properly value their name, image, and likeness rights [because] the NCAA has a structure that artificially restricts the market in a way that hurts the student athletes,” Skrmetti told The Daily Wire.
“Student athletes are the heart of college sports and everybody else in college sports is getting rich, and the student athletes are getting left behind because of the lack of competition for their name, image, and likeness rights. That’s illegal and it’s not fair. It’s not right,” he added.
The lawsuit is aimed at rules from the NCAA that limit the ability of prospective student athletes to negotiate NIL rights. According to the suit, these rules harm athletes “at a critical juncture in the recruiting calendar.”
The lawsuit says that the rule “bans prospective college athletes (including current college athletes looking to transfer to another school who are in the ‘transfer portal’) from discussing potential NIL opportunities before they actually enroll. It’s like a coach looking for a new job, and freely talking to many different schools, but being unable to negotiate salary until after he’s picked one (the depressive effect on coaches’ wages in such a dysfunctional market is obvious).”
The NCAA has said the rules act as necessary protections for student athletes after they were first allowed to pursue such deals in 2021.
Skrmetti said that the issue came to his attention last year after there was concern that the NCAA might institute a postseason ban for the University of Tennessee football team after recruiting violations that occurred under a former coach. He said the bowl ban would have harmed the NIL rights of the students who were not connected to the infractions.

“Student-athletes generate massive revenues for the NCAA, its members, and corporations within the college sports industry, especially in football and basketball,” Miyares <a href="https://www.oag.state.va.us/media-center/news-releases/2680-january-31-2024-attorney-general-miyares-sues-ncaa-over-nil-restrictions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement. “Student athletes should have more freedom over negotiating and earning money for their skills and ability. Colleges and universities benefit dramatically from the success of their student athletes &#8212; it’s only fair that student athletes also get the full picture of how they may benefit from their choice of school as well.”
Skrmetti said that the suit wasn’t directed to protect any specific institution, but was about the rights of student athletes and the principle that “concentrated power causes harm.”
“I’m not for, necessarily, the Wild West of unregulated college sports, but what we have now is such an inconsistent and arbitrary and unfair system, there has to be some deep change to make sure that it both comports with the law and is doing right by student athletes,” he said.

A former <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/virginia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Virginia</a> elections official has been hit with corruption charges, including multiple felonies, from the office of Virginia Attorney General <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jason-miyares" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jason Miyares</a>.
Michele White, who was the elections registrar for Prince William County from 2015-2021, was <a href="https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm-elections-virginia-indictments-d1ff4e7c2f368f5a2429654b64c44a4c">charged</a> with corrupt conduct as an election official, making a false statement, and willful neglect of duty in the months around the November <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2020-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">2020 election</a>.
The alleged criminal actions “did not impact the outcome of any election contest,” according to Eric Olsen, the general registrar and director of elections for Prince William County, Virginia’s second most populous county.
Miyares, a Republican, initiated an investigation in White following the reporting of “discrepancies” from Olson earlier this year to the Virginia Commissioner of Elections and the State Board of Elections. White had resigned from her position in March 2021.
“The Electoral Board and new director of elections have built an entirely new leadership team that is dedicated to fair and accurate elections,” Olsen said in a statement. “Many improvements and best practices have been adopted to ensure a safe and transparent voting experience for the voters of Prince William County.”
The alleged corrupt actions took place from August-December 2020, according to officials. White also is accused of making a false statement during November 3-10, 2020. Miyares&#8217; office did not provide any additional details about the charges against White.
White, who had previously been an official in Culpeper County, gave no explanation to why she had stepped down from her position in March 2021.
According to the Prince William Times, the White’s resignation <a href="https://www.princewilliamtimes.com/news/former-prince-william-elections-director-indicted-for-alleged-corruption-lying-neglect-of-duty-in-2020/article_494ad6cc-2ef6-11ed-b070-5b323cddeb51.html">came</a> after an emergency meeting by the county’s electoral board. Electoral Board Secretary Keith Scarborough said that the meeting had pertained to White’s time with the election’s office.
During the 2020 presidential election, President Joe Biden won Prince William County by a large margin, earning nearly 63% of the vote.
In recent months, Miyares&#8217; office has also been involved in <a href="https://www.courthousenews.com/former-virginia-deputy-attorney-general-files-suit-against-attorney-generals-office/">another</a> elections dispute as former Virginia deputy attorney general Monique Miles announced a suit last month against several Virginia officials. Miles claims that she was fired over her viewpoints related to the January 6 riot.
Miles was out at the office after the Washington Post uncovered a Facebook post where she said on January 6, “News Flash: Patriots have stormed the Capitol. No surprise. The deep state has awoken the sleeping giant.”
She claims that the office fired her and that she did not resign as was widely reported at the time.

A group of GOP attorneys general urged Google in a letter not to censor search results in such a way that women would be blocked from seeing results directing them to pro-life pregnancy care centers.
Attorneys General Jason Miyares (R-VA) and Daniel Cameron (R-KY) led a group of 15 additional state attorneys general in the message to Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Thursday.
&#8220;Unfortunately, several national politicians now seek to wield Google’s immense market power by pressuring the company to discriminate against pro-life crisis pregnancy centers in Google search results, in online advertising, and in its other products, such as Google Maps,&#8221; the <a href="https://www.oag.state.va.us/files/StateAttorneysGeneralLettertoGoogleJuly21,2022.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> read.
&#8220;As the chief legal officers of our respective States, we the undersigned Attorneys General are extremely troubled by this gallingly un-American political pressure. We wish to make this very clear to Google and the other market participants that it dwarfs: If you fail to resist this political pressure, we will act swiftly to protect American consumers from this dangerous axis of corporate and government power,&#8221; it added.
The Republican leaders warned that they would investigate any attempt to make changes to limit pro-life pregnancy center search results. This included &#8220;thorough investigations&#8221; to determine violations of antitrust laws, investigating potential &#8220;religious discrimination,&#8221; and &#8220;common carriage statutes&#8221; to protect consumers, according to the letter.
The letter concluded with the lawmakers arguing they will uphold &#8220;viewpoint diversity, free expression, and the freedom of religion for all Americans,&#8221; requesting answers from Google&#8217;s CEO within 14 days.
The letter also responded to a message last month to Google from Democratic lawmakers that <a href="https://www.warner.senate.gov/public/_cache/files/5/6/5698c724-cc0d-42f6-bbb6-b05e472b4564/26F26BB28841042A7931EEC58AC80E08.anti-abortion-letter-to-google-final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> the search engine to remove &#8220;anti-abortion &#8216;fake clinics'&#8221; from its search results. The letter, sent June 17, came one week prior to the Supreme Court&#8217;s ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade and returned laws regarding abortion to individual states.
In addition to arguing for the removal of pro-life pregnancy centers from search results, the Democratic lawmakers suggested an alternative that &#8220;at the very least&#8221; the pro-life services should be &#8220;appropriately labeled.&#8221; The letter also urged Google to take down ads from crisis pregnancy centers for organizations using Google Ads.
In an abortion-related policy change earlier this month, Google announced that it would automatically delete user data for visits to certain facilities, including abortion clinics.
“Some of the places people visit — including medical facilities like counseling centers, domestic violence shelters, abortion clinics, fertility centers, addiction treatment facilities, weight loss clinics, cosmetic surgery clinics, and others — can be particularly personal,” the company <a href="https://blog.google/technology/safety-security/protecting-peoples-privacy-on-health-topics/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “Today, we’re announcing that if our systems identify that someone has visited one of these places, we will delete these entries from Location History soon after they visit. This change will take effect in the coming weeks.”
Google also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/map-doxing-conservative-justices-violates-googles-terms-of-service-platform-says" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> actions following the Supreme Court ruling leak in May. A group called Ruth Sent Us publicly shared the addresses of the personal homes of Supreme Court Justices Amy Coney Barrett, John Roberts, Samuel Alito, Brett Kavanaugh, Clarence Thomas, and Neil Gorsuch. In response, Google removed the map &#8220;due to a violation of our Terms of Service and/or policies.”

Richmond police are investigating a bullet shot into a window of the Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares&#8217; office, The Daily Wire has learned.
&#8220;Capitol Police were called to the Barbara Johns Building at 7:13 p.m. Monday for a report of a bullet that may have been fired into the building from outside,&#8221; Public Information Officer Joe Macenka told The Daily Wire on Tuesday evening. &#8220;Officers found a bullet in a sixth-floor office that also had a small round hole near the top of a window.&#8221;
&#8220;Capitol Police are investigating the matter and have no further comment at this time,&#8221; he added.
In an email to the attorney general&#8217;s office viewed by The Daily Wire, Chief Deputy Attorney General Chuck Slemp informed colleagues that &#8220;a single round from a firearm was shot into a window of the Barbara Johns Building.&#8221;
&#8220;The round was located by housekeeping staff last night,&#8221; Slemp wrote. &#8220;The Capitol Police is actively investigating.  There is no indication that this incident was targeted at the OAG specifically or any individual employee.&#8221;
&#8220;The Attorney General and I spoke with the Chief of the Capitol Police last night,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The Capitol Police will be providing additional patrols by their officers over the next several days and will have an increased presence at our building for the foreseeable future.&#8221;
&#8220;We wanted you to hear this from us directly this morning before you come into the office,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Further, we want to assure you that your safety at work is of paramount importance to the Attorney General.  If you have concerns, questions, or would like to discuss this matter, feel free to contact me or the Deputy AG for your division.&#8221;

The Richmond Police Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment from The Daily Wire.
Over the weekend, Miyares had weighed in on pro-abortion group&#8217;s threats to disturb Catholic masses on Mother&#8217;s Day with protesting.
&#8220;I deeply respect the First Amendment rights of speech and assembly,&#8221; Miyares tweeted Friday. &#8220;But no one has the right to interfere with the fundamental and natural right of all Virginians to practice their religion in peace.&#8221;

&#8220;This is an unacceptable and downright alarming encroachment on every citizen’s right to express his or her opinions, engage in political debate, and disagree with the government,&#8221; the attorneys general told demanding that Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and his department in the Thursday letter.

Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares slammed CNN host Jim Acosta on Wednesday night for suggesting that the commonwealth is now a &#8220;soviet-style police state&#8221; under Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin.
&#8220;I seem to remember Glenn Youngkin campaigning in a fleece vest in Virginia,&#8221; Acosta <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/virginia-critical-race-theory-masks-jason-miyares-jim-acosta-cuba-soviet-education">said</a> on Tuesday night. &#8220;He was running as a different kind of Republican. I was told there was going to be a vest, not a Soviet-style police state across the Potomac from Washington.&#8221;
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jim-acosta-virginia-is-a-soviet-style-police-state-under-gov-youngkin">reported</a>:
<blockquote>Acosta accused Youngkin of “pitting citizen against citizen” immediately after playing a clip of the governor promising to remove “inherently divisive teaching practices out of the schools.” Acosta seemed outraged by removing the racially polarizing CRT curriculum from taxpayer-funded schools — the chief campaign promise made by Youngkin and Lieutenant Governor Winsome Sears — which Acosta said violates “the traditional conservative tenets of liberty, anti-censorship and freedom.”
Acosta also slammed Youngkin for setting up a process for parents to complain if public school teachers violate the law by teaching racially divisive concepts, such as claiming all members of one race inherently oppress all members of other races. Acosta likened the measure to the Texas Heartbeat law, a pro-life protection that allows citizens to sue abortionists who perform an abortion after a fetal heartbeat can be detected, usually around the sixth week of pregnancy. “How concerned should we be, about these laws that seem to be catching on of, citizens ratting each other out?” he asked Jong-Fast, adding they encourage “canceling your neighbor across the street or next door.”</blockquote>
Miyares responded to Acosta&#8217;s remarks during a Fox News interview with host Sean Hannity on Wednesday night, saying, &#8220;I think what Jim Acosta said — listen, my family fled Communist Cuba.&#8221;
&#8220;You want to talk about what &#8216;Soviet-style&#8217; looks like? It&#8217;s the opposite of freedom,&#8221; he said.
&#8220;So clearly, Jim Acosta maybe needs to take some history classes of what Soviet-style communism actually looks like. And [Virginia is] the opposite.&#8221;
&#8220;What we have said is parents matter. Listen, if you&#8217;re a parent and you want to mask your child for six, seven, eight hours a day, you absolutely have that right. That&#8217;s your individual decision,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The great irony of all this, is in Soviet-style communist states like Cuba, the state diminishes parents. They say, ‘Your loyalty is to the state,’ and parents have less control. This is about parental empowerment.&#8221;
Fox News reported that Miyares&#8217; uncle had been arrested at night by communist Cuban dictator Fidel Castro&#8217;s secret police and that their home was &#8220;nationalized: in the name of fairness and equity.&#8221;
