Actor Michael Keaton spoke out about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a rare move in a Hollywood culture where most celebrities have remained silent.
The 74-year-old “Beetlejuice” actor made his opinions known at the Investigative Reporters and Editors’ 50th anniversary gala on Monday night, per <a href="https://variety.com/2025/film/news/michael-keaton-irony-that-charlie-kirk-killed-shooting-1236519998/">Variety</a>. 
“Before we start to get into the meat of this thing, I’m going to take a minute to say that, regardless of how I probably — not probably — have disagreed with many things he said, Charlie Kirk leaves behind two kids and a wife,” Keaton said during his speech. “You gotta remember that.”
“Because in the end, shooting people will never answer anything, and the irony that he was killed with a gun is unbelievable,” he said.
“60 Minutes” journalist Scott Pelley also discussed Kirk at the same event, saying his assassination is an affront to First Amendment rights.
“Charlie Kirk was murdered to silence his speech, and three months earlier, former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark were murdered to silence their speech,” Pelley said. “Many admired Kirk; many did not. His catchphrase was ‘Prove me wrong.’ To some, that phrase was controversial, even dismissive. But the core idea was: Bring the proof and let’s debate.”
“Whether you agreed with Kirk’s ideas or Hortman’s, their murders, their silencing, is blood on the First Amendment,” he added.
Keaton has supported Democratic candidates in the past, including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden. Despite once <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/michael-keaton-on-reviving-batman-the-protege-worth-dopestick-1234998480/">saying</a> that celebrities shouldn’t dabble too much in politics, he also came out ahead of the 2024 presidential election to slam Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
The actor is one of several leftists willing to discuss Kirk’s death. Actress Jamie Lee Curtis also mentioned it on Monday, telling Marc Maron during an appearance on his <a href="https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/episode-1678-jamie-lee-curtis/id329875043?i=1000726863999">“WTF” podcast</a>, “I’m going to bring something up with you just because it’s front of mind. Charlie Crist was killed two days ago.” 
“Kirk, not Crist,” Maron replied, prompting Curtis to say, “I just call him Crist, I think, because of Christ, because of his deep belief.”
The actress stated that she “disagreed” with Kirk on all issues but said, “I believe he was a man of faith, and I hope in that moment when he died that he felt connected to his faith,” as she became emotional.
“Even though I find what his ideas were abhorrent to me, I still believe he’s a father and a husband and a man of faith, and I hope whatever ‘connection to God’ means, that he felt it.”
She also expressed her discomfort with videos of Kirk’s death being shared so much on social media.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jamie-lee-curtis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jamie Lee Curtis</a> has announced a $1 million dollar donation to a relief fund set up to help those impacted by the Southern California wildfires still raging in the area as of Thursday.
In a post on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/jamieleecurtis">Instagram</a>, the 66-year-old actress wrote about the devastation in Los Angeles County due to the Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, and Hurst Fire — which, combined, have led to tens of thousands of people being forced to evacuate their homes as the high-speed Santa Ana winds continue to make it difficult to contain the blazes. 
“As the fire still rages on and @calfire @losangelesfiredepartment and all the available first responders and agencies involved in fighting fire and saving lives are still hard at work and neighbors and friends are banding together to save each other, my husband and I and our children have pledged $1 million from our Family Foundation to start a fund of support for our great city and state and the great people who live and love there,” Curtis&#8217; post read.
“I’m in communication with Governor Newsom and Mayor Bass and Senator Schiff as to where those funds need to be directed for the most impact,” she added. 
During the “Freaky Friday” star’s appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday, she talked about the fires and how so many of her own friends <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/everything-is-gone-celebrities-post-about-losing-their-homes-in-california-fires" target="_blank" rel="noopener">have lost their homes</a>.

“As you know, where I live is on fire right now. The entire city of Pacific Palisades is burning,” Curtis said. “I flew here last night, I was on the plane, started getting texts and it’s f**king gnarly, you guys.”
“It’s just a catastrophe in Southern California,” she added. “Everything: the market I shop in, the schools my kids go to. Many, many, many friends now have lost their homes. So it’s a really awful situation.”
At the time of this publication, Curtis was the only star to announce a donation. However, a number of stars have slammed the Democratic city and state politicians for the “incredible mismanagement” and “poor leadership” that has resulted in the massive losses throughout the area, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/zachary-levi-says-democrats-need-to-be-held-criminally-responsible-for-fires">reported</a>.
Actress Whitney Cummings even warned those donating money to relief efforts.
“If you donate to cali fire relief efforts, that&#8217;s rad, BUT IT&#8217;S INSANE THAT ANYONE HAS TO DONATE their hard earned money to a state that gets so much tax money from its citizens,” Cummings wrote on <a href="https://x.com/WhitneyCummings/status/1877431482387403160">X</a>. “We&#8217;ve normalized charities and kind people stepping in when the state government fails.”

On Thursday, the 65-year-old actress released a photo of her own from the set after several paparazzi snaps were published showing part of the story for the mother-daughter body-switching film “Freakier Friday,” <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/freaky-friday-2-jamie-lee-curtis-lindsay-lohan-photo-sequel-1235983182/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Deadline</a> reported.
“OK. Because other outlets have posted it, I am going to take advantage of the intrusion of a paparazzi picture into the creative process of filmmaking,” Curtis shared in her post on Facebook.
“We have tried so hard to keep our story a secret and private until it&#8217;s time for release but once in a while an image comes out, and it doesn&#8217;t tell you anything about the story or about what&#8217;s going on with the characters but it does show the joy and fun that we had making #FREAKIERFRIDAY and we know it will be the experience that you will have in the theaters next year,” she added.
“Yes, you heard me… The theaters,” Curtis continued. “The place we all go and enjoy a shared experience in the dark while munching popcorn and candy and laughing together and sometimes crying together.&#8221;
On Friday, the “Halloween” star shared that <a href="https://x.com/DisneyStudiosCA/status/1826995347962368399" target="_blank" rel="noopener">production</a> had officially wrapped on the sequel and both stars of the original movie have talked about how grateful they were to get to work together again, with Curtis calling Lohan the “ULTIMATE movie daughter,” the outlet noted.
Lohan also shared the news and how excited she was to have gotten to make the film with Curtis, the outlet reported.

Jamie Lee Curtis confirmed a sequel to the hit 2003 Disney movie “Freaky Friday” was not only happening but that production had already begun with an incredible picture she posted on Instagram.
On Monday, the 65-year-old actress reposted a <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C8mtDclJNSO/">photo</a> from Disney Studio of her sitting next to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lindsay-lohan">Linsday Lohan</a> — both stars of the original mother-daughter-body-switching film — posing in front of a trailer with the other person’s names in the stars behind them.

A short time later, the 37-year-old actress posted a video on her <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C8mvvRWpLBa/">Instagram</a> of the two posing for the pictures in front of the trailers that meant fans of the classic film were finally getting a sequel.
She simply wrote, “We’re Back.”
In the original post from <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C8msf8WJjFc/">Disney</a>, the studio shared that the sequel to the life-switching comedy was coming next year.
“The Colemans are back and coming to theaters in 2025!” Disney captioned the post. “The sequel to Freaky Friday is now in production!”
During Lohan’s appearance earlier this year on Andy Cohen’s <a href="https://www.wptv.com/entertainment/movies/lindsay-lohan-jamie-lee-curtis-returning-for-freaky-friday-sequel">Sirius XM show</a>, the actress said she and Curtis would be reprising their roles as mother and daughter in the popular coming-of-age movie, but details were scarce.

Actor Sean Astin said in a recent interview that he has never shied away from his status as a &#8220;nepo-baby,&#8221; even joking that he routinely answered, &#8220;Nepotism,&#8221; when people asked him how he had gotten started in Hollywood.
Speaking to entertainment site <a href="https://pagesix.com/2023/12/03/entertainment/sean-astin-embraces-being-a-hollywood-nepo-baby/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a>, Astin freely admitted that his parents — &#8220;The Addams Family&#8221; star John Astin and Oscar-winner Patty Duke (&#8220;The Miracle Worker,&#8221; 1963) — gave him a leg up when it came to getting work in Tinsel Town, and he didn&#8217;t see any reason to feel guilty about taking advantage of that.
&#8220;Listen, it’s just true,&#8221; Astin explained, saying that he didn&#8217;t blame others for jumping on the opportunities their own lives presented. &#8220;Life is hard, work is hard. Finding your way in the world is hard. So when people have some good fortune, I don’t begrudge that.&#8221;

The so-called “Scream Queen” Jamie Lee Curtis just received her first-ever Academy Award after fans have been wondering for years why she never got one. Curtis, 64, has been in Hollywood for a long time, first in the horror genre and eventually as a mainstream actress who’s appeared in everything from TV to movies.
The actress is also the perfect example of what “Hollyweird” has to offer. Curtis was born to famous parents, making her part of the aptly named crowd of “nepo babies” who got a leg up in the business by being born into the business.
Curtis was born to the late actor Tony Curtis and actress Janet Leigh in 1958 and grew up in California. She attended the elite private boarding school Choate before attending law school briefly. Curtis ditched law school to pursue a career in the movies.
“My parents were actors,” Curtis said while accepting the SAG Award for her supporting role in the highly lauded “Everything Everywhere All At Once.”
“And I married an actor. I love actors. I love acting. I love the job we get to do. I love being part of a crew. I love being part of a cast. … It’s such a beautiful job. And I know you look at me and think, well, nepo baby, that’s why she’s there,” she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-totally-get-it-jamie-lee-curtis-admits-shes-a-nepo-baby-during-awards-speech" target="_blank" rel="noopener">added</a>. “And I totally get it. But the truth of the matter is I’m 64 years old and this is just amazing.”
“Everything Everywhere All At Once” is a strange movie but at least it’s just a movie. Curtis’s life, on the other hand, includes surreal moments happening right here in real life.
Acting abilities aside, Curtis is the quintessential example of an A-list star who genuinely doesn’t understand why anyone feels negatively toward her.
Take the actress’s recent scandal involving a piece of artwork hanging in her home. It all started in January when Curtis shared an image on Instagram with more than 5 million followers. 
“Ok. This is a weird post. But I have Covid, so f*** it. During one of the SAG nomination panels for @everythingeverywheremovie I told the story of how I ended up with my office furnished with my beautiful Pollack chairs from that movie,” she wrote in the Instagram image caption.
“I mentioned if people followed me, that was not a cheap trick to try to get people to boost my numbers, but I couldn’t figure out how else to get the picture out into the world, that I would post a picture of them on my IG in my offices for @comet.pictures and I am a truth teller so here you go.”
The photo included the aforementioned table and chairs, but what caught the attention of followers was the strange piece of artwork hanging up in the background. The piece, which was later revealed to be a work called “The Tub” (2003) by artist Betsy Schneider, featured a nude child submerged in a plastic tub of water.
“Why does Jamie Lee Curtis have a picture of a naked child stuffed inside a suitcase on her wall? Strong Epstein vibes,” one popular Twitter reaction said.
The “Knives Out” alum wound up deleting the photo following an avalanche of backlash, but her apology made two things clear: first, she couldn’t understand why anyone was shocked by the photo and second, she still believed the art was a perfectly fine piece to display in her dining area. 
“Last week I posted a picture of some chairs that included a photograph on the wall by an artist that was gifted to me 20 years ago,” she wrote by way of explanation. “I understand it has disturbed some people. As I have said, I am a truth teller, so here’s the truth.”
“It’s a picture of a child, taken by her mother, of her playing in their backyard in a tub of water. Nothing more, nothing less. I took down the post because I didn’t want to keep something up that upset anyone,” Curtis <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jamie-lee-curtis-responds-to-photo-of-naked-child-in-a-box-heres-the-truth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued</a>. 
In the industry, Curtis is portrayed as refreshingly normal and down-to-earth. She’s self-deprecating and doesn’t have the ego that other stars of her status usually do. Curtis made fun of herself for hawking yogurt “that makes you s***” for her long-standing partnership with Activia and has been open about her struggle with addiction and getting sober.
But these positive character traits are only part of the story.
The celeb’s weirdness masquerading as normalcy took center stage in March after she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. During a follow-up appearance on Today, she had a surprising answer when host Savannah Guthrie asked if she had named her golden statue.
“I’m in support of my daughter Ruby. I’m having them be a they/them,” Curtis said with emotion. “I’m going to just call them ‘them.’ They/them, and they are doing great, they’re settling in, and I just, in my life, I never saw it in a million years that I’d have this couple days, and I’m very moved by the whole thing.”
This isn’t the first time Curtis spoke out on behalf of “trans rights.&#8221;
“The right’s war on queer people, most specifically trans people, is both bizarre and abhorrent,” she wrote at the time. “There is no debate to argue here. Trans people have been here forever and aren’t going anywhere. There is no ideology here. It’s simple. Trans rights are human rights. Anything stating the contrary is wrong,” she wrote on Instagram on March 5.
She also turned heads last May for posting photos of herself officiating Ruby’s <a href="https://people.com/movies/jamie-lee-curtis-daughter-ruby-cosplay-wedding-kynthia-photos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cosplay-themed wedding</a>. “Wife is sweet… Ruby and Kynthia,” Curtis shared of the colorful collage. In one photo, the actress posed with a giant butcher knife.

Jamie Lee Curtis admitted on Sunday that she&#8217;s a &#8220;nepo baby&#8221; when she took home the honor of outstanding performance by a female actor in a supporting role at the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
The 64-year-old is the daughter of the late actor Tony Curtis and actress Janet Leigh. During her <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/KLO38SHuTNQ">acceptance speech</a> for her role in &#8220;Everything Everywhere All At Once,&#8221; Curtis said despite being born to famed stars, she is an &#8220;actor,&#8221; and she &#8220;loves&#8221; it.
&#8220;My parents were actors,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;And I married an actor. I love actors. I love acting. I love the job we get to do. I love being part of a crew. I love being part of a cast. &#8230; It&#8217;s such a beautiful job.&#8221;
&#8220;And I know you look at me and think, well, nepo baby, that&#8217;s why she&#8217;s there,&#8221; she added. &#8220;And I totally get it. But the truth of the matter is I&#8217;m 64 years old and this is just amazing.&#8221;
