<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jamie-foxx-says-he-will-open-up-about-his-serious-health-scare-at-stand-up-show">Jamie Foxx</a> finally revealed that the mystery illness that led to him being in a coma for more than two weeks in 2023 was &#8220;a brain bleed that led to a stroke.&#8221;
During Foxx’s new Netflix special “What Had Happened Was,” the 56-year-old comedian became emotional at times, as he admitted doctors still “don’t know exactly what happened” to him, but were able to identify that he suffered a stroke a year ago, NPR <a href="https://www.npr.org/2024/12/10/nx-s1-5213726/jamie-foxx-netflix-special">reported</a>.
Foxx said that on the day it happened, he was dealing with a “bad headache,&#8221; and then he was &#8220;out,” not recalling anything that happened for the next 20 days. He credited his sister, Deidre Dixon, for realizing something was wrong and getting him to the hospital right away.

The Award-winning actor said a &#8220;cool doctor in a Los Angeles Lakers jersey” told Dixon that her brother was &#8220;having a brain bleed that has led to a stroke, and if I don&#8217;t go into his head right now, we&#8217;re going to lose him.”
Foxx said after the doctors performed surgery, they told Dixon that “he may be able to make a full recovery, but it&#8217;s going to be the worst year of his life,&#8221; after they confirmed the stroke, but were unable to find the source of the bleed.
&#8220;Your life doesn&#8217;t flash before your face,&#8221; Foxx told the audience in the special. &#8220;It was kind of oddly peaceful. I say this all the time, I saw the tunnel, I didn&#8217;t see the light.&#8221;

&#8220;I was fighting for my life, but I&#8217;m here in front of you!&#8221; the <a href="https://www.goodmorningamerica.com/culture/story/jamie-foxx-hospitalized-brain-bleed-stoke-new-comedy-special-116631990?utm_source=instagram&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=likeshopme&amp;utm_content=www.instagram.com/p/DDZwnD7NmGn">comedian</a> added, while noting that doctors were afraid &#8220;we&#8217;re going to lose him&#8221; because his vitals were bad.
He also reflected on his faith and said it felt like a sign that he wasn’t taking his blessings from God seriously enough. At one point, Foxx led the room in a round of “God is good. All the time.&#8221;
The reveal comes more than a year after the actor was hospitalized in April 2023 for what, at the time, was described as a “medical complication” by his daughter, actress Corrine Foxx, in a post on Instagram.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jamie-foxx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jamie Foxx</a> said he will open up about the “serious health scare” that landed him in the hospital in 2023 at his upcoming stand-up show, “One More Chance: An Evening with Jamie Foxx.”
In a post on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_bajeySJuO/">Instagram</a> from the 56-year-old actor/comedian, Foxx wrote with a tease: “What Had Happened Was”: “An Evening with Jamie Foxx” that will take place October 3, 4, and 5 in Atlanta.
“Join us for an unforgettable one-man show as Jamie Foxx takes the stage to share his journey through a serious health scare, filled with humor, heart, and inspiration!” the post read.
“Experience Jamie Foxx like never before in this intimate and engaging performance, as he opens up about his struggles, triumphs, and everything in between,” it added. “Get ready for a night of laughter, reflection, and genuine connection.”
It comes more than a year after the actor was hospitalized in April 2023 for what, at the time, was described as a “medical complication” by his daughter, actress Corrine Foxx, in a post on Instagram.

Foxx then snapped his fingers and told the crowd, “I was gone for 20 days … I don’t remember anything.”
“So they told me, I’m in Atlanta, and they told me, my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor,” Foxx continued, saying that the doctor ended up giving him a cortisone shot.
“Next doctor said, ‘Something is going on up there,’” Foxx added as he pointed to his head.
Foxx did not want to say what exactly the doctor said.
“Yeah, I don’t want to say on camera, but it was…” he added as he trailed off.
During the star’s acceptance speech in March at the 7th Annual AAFCA Special Achievement Awards, Foxx promised to open up about what he went through in 2023.

Speaking to <a href="https://people.com/music/lionel-richie-reflects-on-adopting-daughter-nicole-with-first-wife/">People magazine</a> in 2022, the famous singer called Nicole a “Godsend” for their family.
“She was a little girl who needed a shot,&#8221; Richie said. &#8220;She was used to people coming and going. She looked at me, and I&#8217;d say, &#8216;I&#8217;m not going anywhere.'&#8221;
Faith Hill
Country singer Faith Hill has been burning up the charts now for decades, but who knows what her life would’ve been like if she hadn’t been adopted as an infant.
When the country star got older, Hill said she searched for her biological parents, though she called her adoptive ones “incredible,” <a href="https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/g44548893/celebrities-who-were-adopted/">Esquire</a> reported.
&#8220;The first time I met [my birth mother], I just stared at her,&#8221; Hill <a href="https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/inspirational-stories/interviews/a15246/faith-hill-renewed-apr04/">said</a>. “I’d never seen anyone that looked anything like me. It was the awe of seeing someone you came from. It fills something.&#8221;
Sarah McLachlan
Another singer who was adopted is soulful Canadian singer and songwriter Sarah McLachlan, <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/adopted-celebrities-2018-3#sarah-mclachlan-met-her-birth-mother-through-a-complete-coincidence-10">Business Insider</a> noted.
The singer was adopted, along with two other kids, by Jack and Dorice McLachlan. She was 9 years old when she learned about the adoption. 
Speaking to Parents magazine in 2005, McLachlan said, &#8220;When I think about my mother who raised me, you know, she&#8217;s my mother,” Business Insider reported. 
Marilyn Monroe
The late Hollywood legend Marilyn Monroe spent time in foster care living in foster care homes until the age of 7 when her mom’s best friend, Grace McKee, became her legal guardian, <a href="https://www.esquire.com/entertainment/movies/g44548893/celebrities-who-were-adopted/">Esquire magazine</a> noted.
However, things were not smooth for her right away and the young star bounced between orphanages and McKee’s home until the age of 11, according to <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/adopted-celebrities-2018-3#marilyn-monroe-bounced-around-the-california-foster-care-system-due-to-her-birth-mothers-inability-to-care-for-her-3">Business Insider</a>.
At one point, she also ended up moving in with her great-aunt Olive, before she got married at the age of 16 to neighbor James Dougherty.
Jamie Foxx
Comedian and actor Jamie Foxx was adopted when he was just seven months old by his own mother&#8217;s adoptive parents, Estelle and Mark Tally, after Foxx&#8217;s parents separated, according to <a href="https://people.com/all-about-jamie-foxx-parents-8421883#:~:text=When%20his%20mom%20realized%20she,and%20became%20his%20primary%20caretakers.">People</a>. 
In his 2021 memoir “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Act-Like-You-Some-Sense/dp/1538703289">Act Like You Got Some Sense</a>,” Foxx opened up about his childhood and wrote that his grandparents adopted him because his mom “was not ready for the responsibility of parenting.”
He also talked about being raised in Texas by his strict but loving grandmother and said, “She was an educator for 30 years, a very smart woman, raised our city.”
Melissa Gilbert
To most people, Melissa Gilbert is the famed star who got her start on “Little House on the Prairie.” But before she graced the small screen, Gilbert was a baby without a home.
At one day old, the actress was adopted by a “well-known Hollywood family,” the “<a href="https://www.today.com/parents/celebrity/adopted-celebrities-rcna124978">Today</a>” show noted. In the 1990s, she began a search for her biological parents after she gave birth to her son. She soon learned that her mom had passed away, but found her dad. 
In 2010, Gilbert wrote <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Prairie-Tale-Memoir-Melissa-Gilbert/dp/1416599177">“Prairie Tale: A Memoir</a>” and opened up about being adopted and eventually learning the crazy story of who her birth parents were and why they couldn’t raise her.
Simone Biles
Before Simone Biles became a household name after winning numerous Olympic gold medals, she was placed in foster care as a child when her mom couldn’t take care of her and her three siblings, the “<a href="https://www.today.com/parents/celebrity/adopted-celebrities-rcna124978">Today</a>” show noted.
She was eventually adopted by her grandparents, Ron and Nellie Biles. In a letter to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2018/02/05/opinions/foster-care-education-olympics-opinion-biles/index.html">CNN</a> in 2018, Biles discussed how she wouldn’t be where she is today if she hadn’t been adopted.
&#8220;My road to success began the day my grandfather and his wife officially adopted my sister and me,” Biles wrote. “My birth mother suffered from drug addiction, and when I was just three years old, my siblings and I were removed from her custody. 
“From there, we bounced around until I was six and my grandparents made the brave move to adopt us,&#8221; she added. &#8220;Finding a family made me feel like I mattered. Finding a passion, something I loved and was really good at, made me feel like I mattered.”
Eddie Murphy

His mom ended up in the hospital for a lengthy period with an illness during which the actor and his brother were taken into the foster care system, where they spent the next year.
The comedian previously talked about his experience in foster care and credited it with helping him become the talent he is today, admitting that it gave him the ability to laugh in any situation.
Cher
Hollywood star Cher — born Cherilyn Sarkisian — knows what it’s like to be adopted. When she was just 10 months old her parents divorced. Her mother later married bank manager Gilbert LaPiere, who would adopt Cher and her half-sister Georganne.
The 77-year-old singer is currently dating 38-year-old Alexander “AE” Edwards and the two have reportedly talked about having a family through adoption. 
“She’s telling AE it’s her dream in life to have another baby,” a source recently told <a href="https://www.intouchweekly.com/posts/cher-considering-adopting-with-boyfriend-alexander-edwards/">InTouch Weekly</a>. “She missed the boat on freezing eggs and hiring a surrogate but <a href="https://www.sheknows.com/parenting/slideshow/2644578/celebrities-adopted-children/?utm_source=instagramstory&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=editorial">adoption </a>is something she very much would like to do.”

The late star was adopted by Mary and Alfred Liotta when he was just six months old.
Liotta struggled during his lifetime about being adopted and wondering why his parents gave him up. But before his death in 2022, he talked about how grateful he was for the parents who adopted him and how he’d come to peace with the ones who let him go, <a href="https://people.com/movies/ray-liotta-made-peace-birth-parents-adoption-exclusive/">People magazine</a> reported.

The 55-year-old has been spotted in public since then but hasn’t made any formal appearances until he turned up at the Critics Choice Association’s Celebration of Cinema and Television: Honoring Black, Latino and AAPI Achievements event on Monday night, per <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/jamie-foxx-first-public-appearance-medical-issue-critics-choice-1235711833/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>.
Foxx gave a speech after receiving a Vanguard Award for his performance in “The Burial.” The exact details of what happened haven’t been released to the public. Foxx said his sister, Deidra Dixon, and his daughter, Corinne Marie, quickly assisted him with getting the medical attention that he needed to save his life. The actor updated the audience on how he’s been feeling since the medical incident this spring. 
“I couldn’t do that six months ago, I couldn’t actually walk to [the stage]. And I’m not a clone, I’m not a clone. I know a lot of people saying that I was cloned out there,” Foxx told the assembled crowd, making reference to some conspiracy theories that have been circulating online.

The 55-year-old actor, singer, and comedian did not disclose any specifics about the condition that he suffered other than to say he did not want people seeing him &#8220;with tubes running out of me.&#8221;
&#8220;I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I know a lot of people were waiting, you know, wanting to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I just didn&#8217;t want you to see me like that, man. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, television show. I didn&#8217;t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and, and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.&#8221;
Foxx credited his sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne Marie with quickly getting him the medical attention that he needed to save his life.

The post is labeled as a paid promotion with ARIA Resort &amp; Casino. 
People Magazine <a href="https://people.com/jamie-foxx-posts-new-photo-after-medical-emergency-7502195">reported</a> that Foxx is in Las Vegas as he works on a campaign with sports betting company BetMGM. The actor will apparently star in the commercials promoting the brand during football season and after.
Foxx previously posted images on his Instagram in early May, telling fans how much their support meant to him, &#8220;Appreciate all the love!!! Feeling blessed.&#8221;

The 42-year-old rapper/TV host told Billy Bush he didn&#8217;t want to speak out about Foxx&#8217;s health before the family did, <a href="https://extratv.com/2023/06/01/nick-cannon-talks-jamie-foxx-and-taking-over-as-host-of-beat-shazam-exclusive/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Extra</a> reported in a Thursday article.
&#8220;One thing I&#8217;ve always respected about how Jamie&#8217;s moved throughout his entire career, if you&#8217;ve noticed, he&#8217;s always been somebody who is extremely professional and extremely private,&#8221; Cannon said.

&#8220;I mean, you don&#8217;t ever really hear anything other than just the great work that he puts forth as a professional and the fact that, you know, he&#8217;s handled this situation with the same manner, you only can respect that,&#8221; he added. &#8220;I believe when he&#8217;s ready, he&#8217;s going to address the awaiting fans in the world [about his health scare] the way that only he can.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m probably in the same boat as you in that same sense of just knowing that, you know, as a friend, just being as respectful as I can, I don&#8217;t pry,&#8221; Cannon continued. &#8220;I don&#8217;t ask any other questions. And other than the information that&#8217;s given to me and, you know, what&#8217;s asked of me.&#8221;
Cannon also said &#8220;the information [Foxx&#8217;s family has put out is what] they want to be out there.&#8221;

&#8220;I was definitely one of those people initially with like the heavy-handed prayers… sending positive energy, love, and prayers,&#8221; the TV personality said. &#8220;And they were like, &#8216;Yo, we appreciate all of that, but we got it.&#8217; And, you know, Jamie&#8217;s happy with the job that I did on &#8216;Beat Shazam.'&#8221;
Foxx finally broke his silence three weeks after his family confirmed he had been hospitalized for what they called &#8220;medical complications.&#8221; In the 55-year-old actor&#8217;s post on Instagram, he didn&#8217;t address his current condition or the cause of his hospital stay.
However, he did share a message of praise to all who have been praying for him.
&#8220;Appreciate all the love!!!&#8221; Foxx&#8217;s <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/CrysCZmPXWq/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">post</a> read. &#8220;Feeling blessed.&#8221; He has not made any other posts on his social media since May 3.
On April 12, the actor was admitted to the hospital for an undisclosed condition. At the time, the news was confirmed by Foxx&#8217;s daughter on Instagram.
In actress Corinne Foxx&#8217;s since-deleted post, she wrote, &#8220;From the Foxx Family: We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday,&#8221; as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/actor-jamie-foxx-hospitalized-due-to-medical-complication" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
&#8220;Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery,&#8221; she added. &#8220;We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time. Much love, The Foxx Family.&#8221;

Boxing legend Mike Tyson appears to have revealed the medical emergency that actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/jamie-foxx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jamie Foxx</a> recently suffered that landed him in the hospital.
During a recent episode of the PBD Podcast, Tyson, 56, who has been friends with Foxx, 55, for decades, claimed that the “mystery” health emergency was a stroke.
&#8220;He’s not feeling well,&#8221; Tyson <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNeyzh4njt0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. &#8220;They said a stroke. I have no idea what happened to him.&#8221;
The New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/05/23/mike-tyson-reveals-jamie-foxxs-mystery-health-condition/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the facility that Foxx has been receiving treatment at specializes in treating adults with “severe complex conditions,” including stroke recovery.
Foxx was hospitalized on April 12 for what was described at the time as being an undisclosed “medical complication,” according to an Instagram post shared by his actress daughter, Corinne.
Foxx suffered the emergency while in Atlanta shooting his newest film “Back In Action” with costars Cameron Diaz and Glenn Close. Some family members flew in from out of town to be with him shortly after the emergency happened.

No symptoms or possible diagnoses were mentioned in either Corinne’s post or any subsequent reporting — and no indication was given as to how long the “Any Given Sunday” actor might need to remain under a doctor’s care.
