In 2002, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nasa">NASA</a> announced that it was naming its upcoming deep-space telescope after <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/james-webb-telescope">James Webb</a>, the former leader of the agency from 1961 to 1968 who set in motion the 1969 moon landing.
At the time, no one complained, as the telescope hadn’t been built, but more than a decade later, in 2015, when the telescope was nearly finished, <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/matthewfrancis/2015/06/11/the-problem-with-naming-observatories-for-bigots/?sh=d8445fb695bf">an article</a> in Forbes (which is no longer available) kicked off an outrage machine that continues to this day. In the article, written by Matthew Francis, Webb is portrayed as a “bigot” who led an anti-gay purge when he was under secretary of state for then-President Harry Truman and testified about his dislike of gay people, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/19/us/james-webb-telescope-gay-rights.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&amp;referringSource=articleShare">according</a> to The New York Times.
Francis credited Dr. Chanda Prescod-Weinstein, a cosmologist at the University of New Hampshire, with informing him about Webb. The information, however, was wrong, based on misidentification, and that section was deleted without any editor&#8217;s note, the Times reported.
Still, the attacks against Webb continued. Scientific journals jumped on the allegations that Webb was anti-gay, with Nature, New Scientist, and Scientific American publishing essays and editorials attacking him without any commentary defending him, the Times noted. The Royal Astronomical Society in Britain also told astronomers never to use his name, but to refer to the telescope by the abbreviation JWST (James Webb Space Telescope).
When Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, president of the National Society of Black Physicists, looked into the claims about Webb, he discovered they were unfounded. He wrote of his findings in <a href="https://hmoluseyi.medium.com/was-nasas-historic-leader-james-webb-a-bigot-131c821d5f12">a Medium post</a> in 2021, stating, “that there is zero evidence that Webb is guilty of the allegations against him.”
But the mob had already dug in and branded Webb a homophobe. The fact that Webb didn’t do the things he was accused of didn’t matter, so the argument against him shifted. Now, he was guilty of not doing enough to stop the gay purge, even though the gay rights movement didn’t exist at the time and modern scientists are applying current social justice morals to historic events, a view known as presentism.
Those crusading against Webb insisted he didn’t do enough to combat the Lavender Scare, when gay employees were purged from the federal government. However, Webb slow-walked the investigation and refused to turn over personnel files to investigators, according to an <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/atoms/files/nasa_historical_investigation_james_webb_0.pdf">89-page report</a> from NASA regarding Webb.
Webb supported the civil rights movement, threatening to pull scientists and executives from NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, over the actions of then-Governor George Wallace, who supported segregation, the Times reported.
Prescod-Weinstein in particular has continued to campaign against Webb, according to the Times, writing on Twitter that he “knew exactly what was happening with security at his own agency during the height of the Cold War.”
“This is about who we canonize and who are our real saints,” she told the Times. “We can’t just exonerate a dead white guy who was in the thick of a repressive government.”
She also dismissed Webb’s support of the civil rights movement.
“The civil rights versus gay people schtick is marginalizing and pathetic,” she told the outlet. “It’s straight people arguing about the straight canon. As a Black queer Jewish person, I’m not interested.”
She also suggested the Kennedy Center be renamed for Harriet Tubman and repeated baseless accusations of impropriety against Oluseyi, the physicist who defended Webb, the Times reported.
After Oluseyi’s Medium article angered those who wanted Webb’s named removed from the telescope, opponents began raising unsubstantiated allegations against him from when he was a professor at Florida Institute of Technology. He denied the allegations, and an investigation from Florida Tech that involved looking through records and thousands of emails found nothing to substantiate any of the claims. The Times itself looked into the allegations and found that some were “demonstrably false,” while others “could not be substantiated.”
That didn’t deter his critics, like Prescod-Weinstein, who went after George Mason University when it announced it was hiring Oluseyi in August 2021, the Times reported. She directed her attack to astronomy professor Peter Plavchan, who had welcomed Oluseyi on Twitter. Prescod-Weinstein wrote that Plavchan’s tweet was “a reminder that senior men in astronomy can treat junior women” while still being “welcomed by colleagues with open arms.”
Prescod-Weinstein also tweeted that “It continues to be the case that academic institutions play pass the harasser,” and suggested journalists look into why Oluseyi left his previous job, but didn’t respond to three Times emails requesting additional information.
NASA has said it would not remove Webb’s name from the telescope.

A new era of discovering how stars are born is at hand, as NASA’s James Webb Telescope observed the Cosmic Cliffs, a star-forming region inside the NGC 3324 star cluster in the Carina Nebula, and found invisible areas of star birth that had never been seen before.
The Webb Telescope discovered behind heretofore impenetrable dust clouds energetic jets and outflows from young stars. The discovery might illuminate how radiation from nearby massive stars affects planets’ development.
“The two dozen previously unknown outflows from extremely young stars were found by analyzing data from a specific wavelength of infrared light (4.7 microns),” NASA <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/image-feature/webb-uncovers-young-stars-outbursts-in-carina-nebula">reported</a>. “Webb’s observations uncovered a gallery of objects ranging from small fountains to burbling behemoths that extend light-years from the forming stars.”
According to NASA, the initial formation of a star is a “relatively fleeting event – just a few thousand to 10,000 years amid a multi-million-year process of star formation,” but as Megan Reiter, the leader of the study enthused, the Webb Telescope captured a “snapshot in time,” adding, “It opens the door for what&#8217;s going to be possible in terms of looking at these populations of newborn stars in fairly typical environments of the universe that have been invisible up until the James Webb Space Telescope.”
“Jets like these are signposts for the most exciting part of the star formation process,” Nathan Smith, who authored the study, <a href="applewebdata://0EEE26BC-5759-4198-8FE8-1C1C89593E1B/v">celebrated</a>. “We only see them during a brief window of time when the protostar is actively accreting.”
Team member Jon Morse echoed, “It&#8217;s like finding buried treasure. &#8230; In the image first released in July, you see hints of this activity, but these jets are only visible when you embark on that deep dive – dissecting data from each of the different filters and analyzing each area alone.”
In October, the famed Pillars of Creation, columns deep in space made of gas and dust whose majestic images were first captured by the Hubble Space Telescope in 1985, got a stunning makeover in images the James Webb Space Telescope.
The images, far more detailed and conducted with Webb’s Near-Infrared camera, illuminated the luminous stars in the Eagle Nebula roughly 6,500 light-years from Earth.
“The Webb is designed to see infrared light, electromagnetic radiation with wavelengths longer than visible light — colors no human eye has ever seen,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/19/science/webb-pillars-of-creation-image.html?action=click&amp;module=Well&amp;pgtype=Homepage&amp;section=Science">The New York Times</a> noted.
Webb’s view of the Pillars of Creation would let “researchers revamp their models of star formation by identifying far more precise counts of newly formed stars,” <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2022/nasa-s-webb-takes-star-filled-portrait-of-pillars-of-creation">NASA</a> cheered.
Newly-formed stars that look bright red rest near the Pillars; lava-like wavy lines at the edges of the Pillars result from stars within the Pillars ejecting matter. “The crimson glow comes from the energetic hydrogen molecules that result from jets and shocks. This is evident in the second and third pillars from the top,” NASA explained.

The remarkable James Webb Telescope has now offered mankind a possible glimpse of the farthest starlight from Earth anyone has ever seen, and a galaxy that was formed closer to the original Big Bang than any galaxy seen before.
Two galaxies billions of light-years farther behind the giant galaxy cluster Abell 2744 were discovered by the Webb. One is estimated as having come into existence 450 million years after the Big Bang — which has been estimated to have occurred 13.8 billion years ago — while the second, titled GLASS-z12, emerged only 350 million years after the explosion. Both galaxies are estimated to be tiny compared to the Milky Way galaxy of which Earth is a part.
“These observations just make your head explode. This is a whole new chapter in astronomy. It&#8217;s like an archaeological dig, and suddenly you find a lost city or something you didn’t know about. It’s just staggering,” said Paola Santini, one the authors of a research paper led by Marco Castellano of the National Institute for Astrophysics in Rome, Italy.
Another research paper outlining the discovery was led by Rohan Naidu of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Both papers were published in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.
“With Webb, we were amazed to find the most distant starlight that anyone had ever seen, just days after Webb released its first data,&#8221; Naidu <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2022/nasa-s-webb-draws-back-curtain-on-universe-s-early-galaxies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> of the second galaxy.
“Everything we see is new. Webb is showing us that there&#8217;s a very rich universe beyond what we imagined,” Tommaso Treu of the University of California at Los Angeles echoed. “Once again the universe has surprised us. These early galaxies are very unusual in many ways.”
The first galaxy reportedly has a redshift of 10.5 while GLASS-z12 has one of 12.5. Redshift and blueshift describe how a light wave moves, whether toward us or away from us. As a light is stretched, it is “shifted” toward the red end of the light spectrum. Thus the greater the redshift, the farther the light is from us.
GLASS-z12 is thus even farther away from us than the first galaxy found with it.
“At least three types of redshift occur in the universe — from the universe&#8217;s expansion, from the movement of galaxies relative to each other and from ‘ redshift,’ which happens when light is shifted due to the massive amount of matter inside of a galaxy,” Space.com <a href="https://www.space.com/25732-redshift-blueshift.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explains</a>.
Up until the discovery of GLASS-z12, the farthest known galaxy that was discovered was GN-z11, found in 2016 by the Hubble Space telescope; its redshift was 11.1.
“We’ve nailed something that is incredibly fascinating. These galaxies would have had to have started coming together maybe just 100 million years after the big bang. Nobody expected that the dark ages would have ended so early,” Garth Illingworth a member of Naidu&#8217;s team, enthused. “The primal universe would have been just one hundredth its current age. It’s a sliver of time in the 13.8 billion-year-old evolving cosmos.”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/nasa">NASA</a> intentionally crashed an un-crewed vending machine-sized spacecraft into an asteroid Monday to test our defenses should a similar object ever threaten planet Earth.
What sounds like a rehashed plot of the late 90&#8217;s classic end-of-the-world drama &#8220;Armageddon,&#8221; or Netflix&#8217;s latest version of a doomsday story, &#8220;Don&#8217;t Look Up&#8221; — the national space agency took a giant leap in planetary defense for the first time in history by hurtling a spacecraft toward an asteroid known as Didymos, and it&#8217;s moonlet Dimorphos.
&#8220;We&#8217;re embarking on a new era of humankind, an era in which we potentially have the capability to protect ourselves from something like a dangerous, hazardous asteroid impact,&#8221; Lori Glaze, director of NASA&#8217;s Planetary Science Division, said according to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/dart-nasa-asteroid-mission/index.html">CNN</a>. &#8220;What an amazing thing. We&#8217;ve never had that capability before.&#8221;
NASA&#8217;s Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) officially became the world&#8217;s first mission to successfully test technology that would &#8220;defend earth against an incoming killer asteroid,&#8221; Bill Nelson, NASA&#8217;s 14th administrator, said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/SenBillNelson/status/1574416019199868930">video</a>.
&#8220;One of our main reasons at NASA that we exist is not only that space is the place,&#8221; Nelson said. &#8220;But we also look back at the home planet, and we tried to benefit life here on planet Earth.
&#8220;We only have one home, so we ought to take care of it,&#8221; he added.
Nelson said DART would soar at 15,000 miles an hour only to intersect the asteroid the size of an Egyptian pyramid at about 7 million miles away to slightly move its trajectory away from Earth.
DART initially launched in November 2021 with a briefcase-sized CubeSat designed by the Italian Space Agency attached to it to capture images and videos upon impact, according to CNN. Such images are expected to be streamed in the coming weeks and months.
Other space technology that captured the aftermath included the James Webb Space Telescope, the Hubble Space Telescope, and NASA&#8217;s Lucy mission.
Space.com <a href="https://www.space.com/nasa-dart-asteroid-impact-preview">reports</a> neither Dimorphos nor Didymos pose a threat; the DART mission would not change that regardless of its outcome.
Still, the mission was meant to test the theory that the technique could be used for prevention in the event of an asteroid heading straight for Earth.
NASA officials in a news conference Monday said following the mission that there are more than 27,000 near-Earth asteroids in all shapes and sizes, none of which are on a direct impact course with Earth at the moment.
Rep. Don Beyer, the Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee chairman, dubbed the DART mission &#8220;a historic success.&#8221;
&#8220;The risk of impact from asteroids and other hazardous space objects is low, but the damage would be immense,&#8221; Beyer said in a <a href="https://twitter.com/RepDonBeyer/status/1574542355012931584">tweet</a> shortly after officials announced the mission&#8217;s success.
He added that &#8220;developing the capability to prevent impact is a key long-term objective.&#8221;

Theories about the origin of the universe inevitably raise profound questions. 
So when science writer and independent physics researcher Eric Lerner reported that NASA’s new James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) had collected images disproving the widely-accepted Big Bang theory, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/efff-the-dickwad-scientist-claims-big-bang-disproven-by-james-webb-telescope-gets-wrecked" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ensuing media excitement</a> was perhaps understandable.
Writing in a journal published by the British Institute of Art and Ideas, Lerner reported that NASA’s new telescope <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/james-webb-telescope-captures-image-of-tarantula-nebula-discovers-thousands-of-new-stars">detected galaxies</a> that are older and more numerous than astronomers expected. He then argued that this discovery supported his decades-old claim that “the Big Bang never happened” and also that astronomers are “panicking” about this.
Though many media outlets picked up the story, astronomers aren’t actually worried and for good reason.
The Big Bang affirms that the universe began a finite time ago and then expanded from a state of near-infinite density and temperature. The first evidence for this came in the 1910s and ’20s. Astronomers discovered that light from distant galaxies was stretched out or “red-shifted” as if the galaxies were moving away from us. Just as sound waves from a receding police siren stretch out and drop in pitch, light waves from a receding object in the night sky stretch out and look redder upon analysis than they would otherwise look.
In the 1920s, astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered that light from distant galaxies exhibits more red-shift than light from nearby galaxies. That implied galaxies farther away from Earth were receding faster than those close at hand, as if the universe were expanding like a balloon from an explosive beginning — a “big bang.”
Astronomers have since made numerous measurements confirming this expansion. And that’s where the James Webb telescope comes in.
The JWST can observe galaxies farther away than any detected before. Since light takes time to travel, light from extremely distant galaxies will reveal how those galaxies looked long ago. NASA’s new telescope can detect light from some galaxies as old as 13.6 billion years, or 200 million years after the Big Bang.
Moreover, if the universe is expanding from a Big Bang, light from the most distant galaxies should be extremely stretched out or “uber” red shifted. Astronomers calculate that such light would fall outside the visible spectrum and into the longer wavelength infrared range.
But detecting long wavelength infrared radiation requires special equipment — thus, NASA’s decision to build a telescope, the James Webb, capable of detecting such radiation.
What does this have to do with cosmic origins?
If the JWST were to detect “uber” red shifted radiation coming from extremely ancient, distant galaxies, that would provide additional confirmation that the universe has expanded as much as the Big Bang theory predicts.
So has the JWST detected such radiation? It has. In fact, there would be no extremely distant galaxies to analyze had the JWST not detected long wavelength infrared radiation coming from them. Remember the JWST was specifically designed to detect such infrared radiation. Thus, the fact that it has been able to produce images of extremely distant galaxies shows that it has collected the kind of radiation astronomers would expect if the universe is expanding as the Big Bang theory affirms.
Lerner mentions none of this. Instead, he highlights surprising discoveries about how many galaxies had formed in those remote periods in cosmic history. He argues that, given current theory, we should not expect to see so many galaxies so early.
Perhaps. But the evidence he cites challenges models of galaxy formation, not an expanding universe or the Big Bang.
Interestingly, Lerner acknowledges that the JWST has detected extremely red-shifted radiation. But he explains this away with something called the “tired-light hypothesis.” He acknowledges that wavelengths increase with distance but denies the expansion of space produces that elongation. Instead, he asserts light stretches out as it loses energy in transit.
Yet the tired-light hypothesis has been discredited. No known mechanism degrades the energy of a photon of light without changing its direction and momentum. But any such change would cause images of the object emitting the photon to blur. That blurring has not been observed.
Lerner’s arguments have also been rejected because of other astronomical evidence — the observed abundance of light elements and famed “Cosmic Background Radiation”—that the Big Bang model explains uniquely well.
What’s more, the scientist that Lerner quoted to prove “panic” among astronomers has disclaimed use of her quote, noting that JWST data is making her rethink galaxy formation, not the Big Bang. 
Many scientists, including Albert Einstein, have understandably found the Big Bang theory philosophically unpalatable. If the physical universe of matter, energy, space and time had a beginning – as observational astronomy and theoretical physics suggest – it’s hard to envision a physical cause for such an event. After all, it was matter and energy that first came into existence at the Big Bang. Before that, no matter or energy — no physics — would have yet existed that could have caused the universe to begin.
Such considerations have led some scientists — Israeli physicist Gerald Schroeder, the late Caltech astronomer Allan Sandage and Nobel laureate Arno Penzias — to affirm a creator beyond space and time. Others remain agnostic about ultimate origins.
Yet, irrespective of philosophical perspective, the vast majority of physicists and astronomers have followed the evidence to its logical conclusion: the universe had a beginning; there was a Big Bang. Certainly, the James Webb Space Telescope has revealed nothing to overturn this consensus or the considerable body of evidence supporting it.

Thousands of new stars were captured in an image of the Tarantula Nebula region released on Tuesday from the James Webb Space Telescope.
The image of the area (technically called Doradus 30) was shared in a new report by the European Space Agency (ESA) and offers unprecedented views from the collaborative project with NASA.

The stunning new details in the image reveal gas and dust in the nebula, along with distant background galaxies. The dense gas is noted as the material that will be used to form future stars.
&#8220;Astronomers used two of Webb’s spectrographs to take a closer look at this region and determine the chemical makeup of the star and its surrounding gas,&#8221; the ESA stated. &#8220;This spectral information will tell astronomers about the age of the nebula and how many generations of star birth it has seen.&#8221;
The Tarantula Nebula is located within the Large Magellanic Cloud, a satellite galaxy of the Milky Way that is 163,000 light years from Earth, <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2022/a-cosmic-tarantula-caught-by-nasa-s-webb" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to</a> NASA. Within the region lies star cluster R136, one of the most energetic known star clusters.
The image is among many discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope. The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nasa-reveals-first-ever-picture-of-exoplanet-from-james-webb-telescope" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the telescope captured the first direct image of an exoplanet — a planet beyond our solar system — in another first for the new space project.
The image was released on Thursday by NASA with four different light filters.

The planet had been previously discovered in 2017 but had never been directly photographed, according to the Webb Telescope&#8217;s Twitter post.
&#8220;Though Webb can potentially discover new planets, this one was found in 2017 using the SPHERE instrument on the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile. Above Earth’s atmosphere, Webb can see details of this planet that ground-based telescopes cannot,&#8221; it <a href="https://twitter.com/NASAWebb/status/1565353145831526405" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>.
Another post noted described the distance of the image by explaining that it would take NASA&#8217;s Voyager 73,000 years to reach the exoplanet.

The Phantom Galaxy is located within the constellation Pisces, offering clearly defined spiral arms. The new images provide a wealth of information for astronomers investigating the formation of spiral galaxies.
&#8220;Webb&#8217;s sharp vision has revealed delicate filaments of gas and dust in the grandiose spiral arms which wind outwards from the center of this image,&#8221; the ESA&#8217;s statement noted.
&#8220;A lack of gas in the nuclear region also provides an unobscured view of the nuclear star cluster at the galaxy&#8217;s center,&#8221; it added.
Scientists continue to be surprised at the new images and research emerging from the latest findings of the Webb Telescope. The project, in which the ESA partners with NASA, has led to various discoveries since its launch in December.

NASA Reveals New Phantom Galaxy Images Featuring Stunning Details

A dispute has arisen among scientists as to whether images from the James Webb Space Telescope have disproven the Big Bang theory.
The Big Bang, first proposed in 1927, posited that the universe started as an incredibly hot, dense single point that exploded, triggering a constant expansion of the known universe. That led to the Lambda-CDM model of the universe, considered the standard model of cosmology, which states that the universe is full of matter, dark matter, and dark energy.
Three basic facts support the Big Bang theory: more distant galaxies are reputed to have a higher red-shift than closer ones, meaning there is an increase in wavelength of the light emanating from them, so their light is shifter toward the red area of the spectrum; the cosmic background radiation from the effect of the Big Bang fills the universe, and the evidence for an abundance of elements in the early universe.
But social media became abuzz with rumors that the Big Bang theory had been debunked after a recent article by Eric Lerner, the author of the 1991 book “The Big Bang Never Happened.”
Lerner claimed, “The hypothesis that the JWST’s images are blatantly and repeatedly contradicting is the Big Bang Hypothesis that the universe began 14 billion years ago in an incredibly hot, dense state and has been expanding ever since.”
Lerner quoted Allison Kirkpatrick, an astronomer at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, saying, “Right now I find myself lying awake at three in the morning and wondering if everything I’ve done is wrong.”
Kirkpatrick, who has changed her Twitter handle to “Allison the Big Bang happened Kirkpatrick,” was incensed, saying that her words were taken out of context, tweeting, “Time to curl up with A Very Kitty Cocktail Party while muttering that the big bang is real. &#8230; And efff the dickwad who blatantly misused my quote in an attempt at ‘evidence.’”

“Lerner&#8217;s piece uses some of the early JWST studies to attempt to dismiss the Big Bang theory,” Ryan <a href="https://www.cnet.com/science/space/no-james-webb-space-telescope-images-do-not-debunk-the-big-bang/">wrote</a>. “What&#8217;s concerning is how it misconstrues early JWST data to suggest that astronomers and cosmologists are worried the well-established theory is incorrect.”
“We as scientists have a responsibility to educate the public, and I take that responsibility very seriously,” Kirkpatrick told Ryan. “Deliberately misleading the public makes it difficult for them to trust real scientists and to know fact from fiction.”
“If you&#8217;re interested in further arguments against Lerner&#8217;s hypotheses and why the claims don&#8217;t add up, I recommend checking out Brian Keating&#8217;s recent YouTube video,” Ryan recommended.
“It’s a common misconception that redshift proves that galaxies are speeding away from us. The Webb telescope, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/will-absolutely-blow-hubble-out-of-the-water-new-photos-from-largest-space-telescope-ever-shows-colors-never-seen-before">most powerful ever launched into space</a>, began scouring the universe on July 12. Scientists believe it will allow them to observe some of the first galaxies created by the Big Bang.
Last month, just days after the telescope began sending images back to Earth, it helped scientists <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/oldest-galaxy-ever-discovered-found-by-james-webb-space-telescope">discover a galaxy</a> so old it predates the previously oldest known galaxy by roughly 100 million years. The newly-discovered galaxy has been named GLASS-z13, and it came into existence just 300 million years after the Big Bang, which occurred nearly 14 billion years ago.
“JWST has potentially smashed records, spotting a galaxy which existed when the universe was a mere 300 million years old!” former NASA scientist James O’Donoghue enthused. “The light from GLASS-z13 took 13.4 billion years to hit us, but the distance between us is now 33 billion light years due to the expansion of the universe!”

The previous oldest known galaxy, GN-z11, was discovered by the Hubble Space Telescope in 2016 and came into existence 400 million years after the Big Bang.
We&#8217;re potentially looking at the most distant starlight that anyone has ever seen,&#8221; Rohan Naidu of the Harvard Center for Astrophysics told <a href="https://www.france24.com/en/live-news/20220720-webb-telescope-may-have-already-found-most-distant-known-galaxy">AFP</a>.

GLASS-z13 stretches roughly 1600 light years across compared to Earth’s Milky Way galaxy, which ranges 100,000 light-years in diameter.
The James Webb Space Telescope, the largest space telescope ever sent into space, has been in the works for 30 years at a cost of $10 billion and intends to reach back to the beginnings of the universe.
Roughly 20,000 people have played a part in the telescope’s development over the years, from engineers and astronomers to technicians and government officials.
The pictures to be displayed would show “colors no human eye has seen,” <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/07/10/science/nasa-webb-telescope-images.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimesscience">The New York Times</a> had reported.
The Webb Telescope will far outstrip the capacities of the famed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/something-weird-is-going-on-in-the-universe-nasa-says">Hubble telescope</a> in its quest into space and time.  In 2018, NASA introduced a double-blind system for proposals from scientists wanting to use the Hubble; the Webb Telescope will <a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-021-03538-8">also feature</a> such a process for accepting applicants to use it.
“We all know that Webb will absolutely blow Hubble out of the water by going deeper and finding the earliest galaxies,” asserted Garth Illingworth, an astrophysicist who has utilized Hubble.
The five cosmic objects <a href="https://www.nasa.gov/feature/goddard/2022/nasa-shares-list-of-cosmic-targets-for-webb-telescope-s-first-images">targeted</a> by the Webb Telescope include the Carina Nebula, roughly 7,600 light years away; the WASP-96 b (spectrum), an exoplanet about half the mass of Jupiter; the Southern Ring Nebula, roughly 2,000 light years away from Earth; Stephan’s Quintet in the constellation Pegasus, about 290 million light years distant, and SMACS 0723.
