<p>Actor <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/john-leguizamo-upset-latinx-talent-not-represented-at-oscars/">John Leguizamo</a> lashed out at Hollywood and streaming platforms on Friday, accusing them of &#8220;cultural appropriation&#8221; after he learned that actor <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/james-franco-digitally-erased-vanity-fair-cover-paul-bois/">James Franco</a> had been cast as dictator Fidel Castro in the upcoming film &#8220;Alina of Cuba.&#8221;</p>
<p>Sharing a screen shot of an article announcing the casting decision on Instagram, <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/john-leguizamo-latino-republicans-suffer-from-self-hate/">Leguizamo</a> added a caption <a href="https://pagesix.com/2022/08/06/john-leguizamo-slams-james-francos-casting-as-fidel-castro/">complaining</a> that both Hollywood and streaming platforms often cast non-Latino actors to play iconic Latino roles.</p>

<p>&#8220;How is this still going on? How is Hollywood excluding us but stealing our narratives as well? No more appropriation Hollywood and streamers!&#8221; Leguizamo said. &#8220;Boycott! This F’d up! Plus seriously difficult story to tell without aggrandizement which would b wrong! I don’t got a prob with Franco but he ain’t Latino!&#8221;</p>
<p>The filmmakers defended the decision by pointing out the fact that Franco, whose ancestry includes Portuguese along with Russian, Jewish, and Swedish, actually shared a similar facial structure to Castro — who was born in Cuba but of Spanish (European) descent.</p>
<p>&#8220;To get there on such a tough look to cast, we used Fidel Castro’s ancient Galician heraldry as our focal compass, and then combed through the entire ranks of actors with Latin roots in Hollywood to find someone who has a similar facial structure,&#8221; John Martinez O’Felan <a href="https://deadline.com/2022/08/james-franco-fidel-castro-alina-of-cuba-movie-1235085397/">told Deadline</a>, adding, &#8220;In executing a close search into our hopefuls through the eye of Spanish and Portuguese genealogy which the Galicians held, we found that James, by far, had the closest facial likeness.&#8221;</p>
<p>Castro&#8217;s own daughter Alina Fernández approved the casting decision as well, saying, &#8220;James Franco has an obvious physical resemblance with Fidel Castro, besides his skills and charisma.&#8221;</p>
<p>Fernandez also touted the fact that nearly the entire project — both in front of the camera and behind — is Latino.</p>
<p>&#8220;I find the selection of the cast amazing,” she said. &#8220;Ana Villafañe is extraordinarily talented, and not only as an actress because she is also a great singer, a very complete performer. I’m sure that Mía Maestro, an actress I admire, will understand and interpret Naty, my mother, in a unique way and I can’t wait to see her building her character.&#8221;</p>
<p>Leguizamo followed his first complaint with a video explaining that his complaint had arisen out of his own experience with what he described as &#8220;brown face&#8221; — white actors like Charlton Heston and Ben Affleck being made up to look Latin in order to play certain roles.</p>

<p>Amber Heard took on tough questioning from ex-husband Johnny Depp&#8217;s legal team on Tuesday, as the court was shown surveillance footage of then-married Amber Heard cuddling up to actor James Franco in a private elevator to Depp&#8217;s penthouse.</p>
<p>Depp is suing Heard for defamation over a 2016 Washington Post op-ed from Heard about domestic violence. Heard has countersued for more than $100 million.</p>
<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s you and Mr. Franco on May 22, 2016, right Ms. Heard?&#8221; Depp attorney Camille Vasquez asked the actress during cross-examination.</p>
<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s correct,&#8221; Heard confirmed.</p>
<p>&#8220;And you&#8217;re taking him up to the penthouses, aren&#8217;t you?&#8221; the attorney pressed. Heard responded, &#8220;That&#8217;s where I lived, yes.&#8221;</p>
<p>Vasquez then refreshed Heard&#8217;s memory, offering a timestamp to show her meeting with Franco started right around 11 p.m.</p>
<p>&#8220;You changed the locks to the penthouses on May 22, 2016,&#8221; Vasquez continued.</p>
<p>&#8220;I attempted to,&#8221; the actress responded.</p>

<p>&#8220;That&#8217;s why you felt comfortable having James Franco over the evening of May 22, 2016?&#8221; the attorney <a href="https://ew.com/celebrity/johnny-depp-amber-heard-james-franco-footage/">charged</a>, stating that Heard &#8220;knew Mr. Depp was out of town.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I don&#8217;t know what I knew of his schedule at the time,&#8221; Heard replied.</p>

<p>During redirect questioning, Heard claimed she was merely friends with Franco, and that she had reached out to him because she had &#8220;exhausted&#8221; everyone else in her support system.</p>

<p>The footage shows Heard cuddling up to Franco in a private elevator en route to Depp&#8217;s Los Angeles penthouse, a home Depp shared with Heard at the time.</p>
<p>The security footage, dated May 22, 2016, was also shown before a London court in 2020, when Depp was suing The Sun for libel. The footage also was after Heard filed for a restraining order against the &#8220;Pirates of the Caribbean&#8221; actor.</p>
<p>&#8220;The footage shown in court from the CCTV system of Heard&#8217;s home in LA [Depp&#8217;s penthouse] shows her entering a lift on May 22, 2016, at 22.56pm wearing a long robe and going down to collect James Franco from reception,&#8221; NZ Herald <a href="https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/amber-heard-james-franco-cctv-video-shown-to-london-court/2BWF3Q25IYQLFTLJVLM5MSUMLU/">reported</a> in 2020. &#8220;He enters the lift wearing a baseball cap and is carrying a backpack. Once inside the pair huddle in a corner with their faces away from the camera.&#8221;</p>
<p>The actress has previously said her conversation with Franco was &#8220;discreet,&#8221; and that she was not trying to hide from the elevator camera because of Depp.</p>
<p class="">&#8220;We were talking and he was saying to me &#8216;Oh my god what happened to you?'&#8221; Heard claimed, suggesting she had marks on her face from Depp throwing a phone at her. &#8220;&#8216;What the f***?&#8217; is what he said to me.'&#8221;</p>
<p>During the defamation case against Heard, Depp confirmed on the stand that he suspected his ex-wife cheated on him with the &#8220;Pineapple Express&#8221; actor.</p>

<p>Notes taken by Dr. Dawn Hughes from meetings with Amber Heard were shown to the court Wednesday, revealing more details into the actress&#8217; relationships with actor James Franco and tech billionaire Elon Musk.</p>
<p>Heard&#8217;s ex-husband Johnny Depp has in the past accused the &#8220;Aquaman&#8221; star of being unfaithful during their marriage, cheating on him with both Franco and Musk.</p>
<p>Hughes, a forensic and clinical psychologist called to testify as an expert witness by Heard&#8217;s team, made notes about both Franco and Musk under a section titled &#8220;Intimate relationships.&#8221;</p>
<p>Referring to Franco by his initials, &#8220;JF,&#8221; Hughes tied Heard and Franco with the date &#8220;Dec. 2015,&#8221; which was during Heard and Depp&#8217;s marriage.</p>
<p>&#8220;JF- friends &#8211; got close &#8211; but really wanted to be [with] Johnny,&#8221; one note said.</p>
<p>In a note on &#8220;Elon,&#8221; a reference to Musk, Hughes wrote that the pair met at the Met Ball in May 2016. The Met Ball that year was held on May 2. Heard filed for divorce against Depp on May 23, 2016.</p>
<p>&#8220;Elon &#8211; May 2016 &#8211; met then, Met Ball,&#8221; a note from Hughes said, adding, &#8220;dated after Johnny.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I was heartbroken, my soul felt nothing then,&#8221; a note under &#8220;Elon&#8221; said. &#8220;Ended March 2018.&#8221;</p>
<p>Notably, the expert witness, who has never treated Heard as a patient and first met with the actress in September 2019, said she &#8220;drew a line&#8221; to separate notes on Franco and Musk. An attorney for Depp questioned Hughes on why she did not have a new heading if the men&#8217;s names did not belong under &#8220;Intimate relationships,&#8221; as she suggested. Hughes, again, referenced the &#8220;line.&#8221;</p>
<p>During more questioning from Depp&#8217;s legal team, Hughes was asked, &#8220;Did Ms. Heard ever tell you James Franco spent the night with her?&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I did recall that she did see him at some point, but I don&#8217;t know if he spent the night,&#8221; Hughes responded.</p>
<p>Asked about Elon spending the night, Hughes answered, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know.&#8221;</p>

<p>“I don’t recall, but it’s highly likely,” Depp <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-the-surveillance-video-of-james-franco-getting-cuddly-with-a-married-amber-heard-in-elevator-to-depp-penthouse">said</a> this month, asked if he had a fight with Heard about Franco. The 58-year-old answered in the affirmative when he was asked if he suspected Heard cheating with the “Pineapple Express” actor.</p>
<p>Heard met Franco down in reception at 11 p.m. and brought him up to the penthouse, the actress acknowledged. Referring to the time of night she was with Franco, Heard said she wasn’t sleeping much those days.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-details-about-elon-musk-and-amber-heards-relationship-revealed-during-defamation-trial">The Daily Wire</a> reported that Depp last week testified that Heard cheated on him with Musk beginning one month after their wedding.</p>
<p>&#8220;Court documents allege that Musk visited Depp’s penthouse &#8216;late at night&#8217; while the &#8216;Pirates of the Caribbean&#8217; actor was not at home,&#8221; Amanda Harding reported. &#8220;The 50-year-old Tesla founder was also given parking garage access, Fox reported.&#8221;</p>
<p>“Musk’s first appearance in Mr. Depp’s penthouse occurred shortly after Ms. Heard threw a vodka bottle at Mr. Depp in Australia, when she learned that Mr. Depp wanted the couple to enter into a post-nuptial agreement concerning assets in their marriage. <p>Surveillance footage shows Amber Heard getting cuddly with James Franco in a private elevator when she was still married to Johnny Depp. The elevator was en route to Depp&#8217;s Los Angeles penthouse, a home he shared with Heard at the time.</p>
<p>The security footage, dated May 22, 2016, was shown before a London court in 2020, when Depp was suing The Sun for libel. The video was reposted days ago by Law &amp; Crime, in light of Depp&#8217;s recent testimony in a Virginia court about his suspicions that Heard cheated on him with Franco.</p>
<p>“I don’t recall, but it’s highly likely,&#8221; Depp said this month, asked if he had a fight with Heard about Franco. The 58-year-old answered in the affirmative when he was asked if he suspected Heard cheating with the &#8220;Pineapple Express&#8221; actor.</p>
<p class="">The footage shows Franco and Heard getting cuddly and having what Heard called a &#8220;discreet&#8221; conversation in the private elevator.</p>
<p class="">&#8220;The video was filmed on May 22, 2016, the day after Heard alleges Johnny Depp threw her mobile phone at her, hitting her in the face, which Depp denies. It was just days before she filed for divorce,&#8221; NZ Herald <a href="https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/amber-heard-james-franco-cctv-video-shown-to-london-court/2BWF3Q25IYQLFTLJVLM5MSUMLU/">reported</a> in 2020.</p>
<p>&#8220;The footage shown in court from the CCTV system of Heard&#8217;s home in LA [Depp&#8217;s penthouse] shows her entering a lift on May 22, 2016, at 22.56pm wearing a long robe and going down to collect James Franco from reception,&#8221; the report outlined. &#8220;He enters the lift wearing a baseball cap and is carrying a backpack. Once inside the pair huddle in a corner with their faces away from the camera.&#8221;</p>
<p>Heard met Franco down in reception at 11 p.m. and brought him up to the penthouse. Referring to the time of night she was with Franco, the actress said she wasn&#8217;t sleeping much those days.</p>
<p>On the stand, Heard was asked if she was trying not to be &#8220;seen by the camera.&#8221; The actress said her conversation with Franco was &#8220;discreet&#8221;.</p>
<p class="">&#8220;We were talking and he was saying to me &#8216;Oh my god what happened to you?'&#8221; Heard claimed, suggesting she had marks on her face from Depp&#8217;s abuse. &#8220;&#8216;What the f***?&#8217; is what he said to me.'&#8221;</p>
<p>Depp has accused Heard of cheating on him with Franco and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The actress has denied the alleged affairs.</p>
<p>Both Franco and Musk have declined to testify in Depp&#8217;s $50 million defamation case against Heard.</p>

<p>Actor James Franco, fresh off his first comments since being accused of sexual harassment in 2018, will be deposed as part of fellow actor Johnny Depp’s ongoing lawsuit against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.</p>
<p>In particular, Franco will be questioned about whether he had an affair with Heard while she was still married to Depp and whether Franco ever saw the bruises on Heard’s face she claimed to have that she said Depp caused, Page Six <a href="https://pagesix.com/2021/12/24/james-franco-to-be-deposed-over-alleged-amber-heard-affair/">reported</a>. Franco will be deposed in early 2022, the outlet added.</p>
<p>Attorneys for Depp sent a subpoena to Franco “after May 2016 surveillance video showed him getting into an elevator with Heard 24 hours after they had a blowout fight, during which Heard alleged Depp gave her a black eye,” Page Six reported. “Franco and Heard are seen leaving the elevator together on the penthouse floor, where Depp and Heard had shared an apartment,” the outlet added.</p>
<p>Depp’s legal team reportedly is treating Franco as a “witness” and wants to know if he and Heard discussed the argument or if Franco saw any bruises on Heard’s face.</p>
<p>Depp alleges he never abused Heard and that she didn’t have any bruises until she showed up in court claiming abuse and seeking a temporary restraining order. Depp alleges in his lawsuit that the bruises were “painted-on.”</p>
<p>“I have denied Ms. Heard’s allegations vehemently since she first made them in May 2016 … when she walked into court to obtain a temporary restraining order with painted-on bruises that witnesses and surveillance footage show she did not possess each day of the preceding week. I will continue to deny them for the rest of my life. I never abused Ms. Heard or any other woman,” Depp’s lawsuit says, according to Page Six.</p>
<p>As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-refuses-to-dismiss-johnny-depps-libel-lawsuit-against-amber-heard">reported</a> Depp is suing Heard for $50 million in damages over an op-ed Heard wrote in The Washington Post claiming to be the victim of domestic abuse, though she did not name Depp as her abuser.</p>
<p>On three occasions, Courthouse News <a href="https://www.courthousenews.com/judge-wont-send-johnny-depps-defamation-suit-to-virginia-supreme-court/">reported</a>, Heard’s attorneys have tried and failed to get the defamation lawsuit dismissed, the most recent loss coming on October 12.</p>
<p>On that day, Judge Penney Azcarate once again refused to dismiss the case. Heard’s attorneys argued that the findings in Depp’s U.K. defamation lawsuit — which he lost — should be followed here in the states. In August, Azcarate also <a href="https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/circuit/sites/circuit/files/assets/documents/pdf/opinions/cl-2019-2911-depp-ii-v-heard-08172021.pdf">ruled</a> against Heard, writing at the time that the facts in the current case were not the same as those in the U.K. In that lawsuit, Depp took issue with Heard and a British tabloid that called him a “wife beater.”</p>
<p>As The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/johnny-depp-loses-libel-case-against-ex-wife-and-british-tabloid-judge-accepts-description-that-hes-a-wife-beater">reported</a>, Depp lost that case, in large part due to the difficulties in proving libel cases. Depp had to prove that he <em>didn’t</em> abuse Heard — essentially he had to prove a negative. And while a judge in the U.K. acknowledged that Depp was able to cast doubt on at least two of Heard’s allegations, he failed to disprove her other 12 allegations.</p>
<p>Depp’s attorneys called the ruling “perverse” and “bewildering,” pointing out the mountain of evidence the judge appeared to have ignored in arriving at his decision.</p>
<p>“Most troubling is the Judge’s reliance on the testimony of Amber Heard, and corresponding disregard of the mountain of counter-evidence from police officers, medical practitioners, her own former assistant, other unchallenged witnesses and an array of documentary evidence which completely undermined the allegations, point by point. All of this was overlooked,” said Depp’s attorney Jenny Afia. “The judgment is so flawed that it would be ridiculous for Mr. Depp not to appeal this decision.”</p>
<p>Among that “mountain” of evidence, The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/listen-actress-amber-heard-admits-to-hitting-johnny-depp-in-shocking-audio">reported</a>, was surveillance videos, eyewitness statements, audio, photos, and more showing that Depp was the real victim.</p>
<p>“One of the testimonies comes from Trinity Esparza, who was the concierge at the penthouse where Heard claims Depp hit her in the face. Esparza now questions how Heard received the mark on her face she claimed was from Depp, after reviewing surveillance footage from three days later, when Heard’s sister Whitney pretended to punch her in the face, according to court documents,” The Daily Wire reported.</p>
<p>Further, evidence suggested Heard attacked Depp while the actor was in bed and staged the attacks she claimed he committed.</p>
<p>“Unaware that members of Mr. Depp’s security team (including an 18-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department) were mere feet away, Ms. Heard falsely began yelling, ‘Stop hitting me, Johnny,’” Depp alleged in court documents. “The interaction culminated with Ms. Heard making false allegations that Mr. Depp struck her with a cell phone, hit her and destroyed the penthouse. There were multiple eyewitnesses to this hoax.”</p>
<p>Further, Depp’s attorneys presented <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/listen-actress-amber-heard-admits-to-hitting-johnny-depp-in-shocking-audio">audio</a> of Heard admitting to hitting the “Pirates of Caribbean” actor.</p>
<p>“I’m sorry that I didn’t, uh, uh, hit you across the face in a proper slap, but I was hitting you, it was not punching you. Babe, you’re not punched,” Heard tells Depp in the recording. “I don’t know what the motion of my actual hand was, but you’re fine. I did not hurt you. I did not punch you. I was hitting you.”</p>
