Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC) said in an interview over the weekend that he believes President-elect Donald Trump is another dictator like Adolf Hitler or Benito Mussolini.
Clyburn made the remarks during a Saturday interview with Neil Cavuto on Fox News&#8217; &#8220;Cavuto Live&#8221; while talking about the country&#8217;s shift to the political Right in this month&#8217;s elections.
&#8220;We go from left to right in this country,&#8221; he said. &#8220;We go from right back left in this country. And I always say, well whether the pendulum is going from left to right or right to left, it always passes through the middle.&#8221;
&#8220;Now, the country has gone lurching back to the right,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;I hope it’s not going as far right as that which happened in Germany in the 1930s. But you may remember I forewarned way back in 2018 that I saw this coming. I’ve studied history all of my life.&#8221;
Cavuto pushed back, asking if he was saying that he is &#8220;envisioning another Hitler.&#8221;
&#8220;That’s exactly what I’m saying,&#8221; Clyburn said. &#8220;I said the 1930s in Germany. And of course, we go to Mussolini in Italy.&#8221;
Clyburn added that he was not being hyperbolic by making the comparison.

Republican strategist Steve Guest responded to the clip by posting on X: &#8220;Democrats are rhetorical arsonists who don’t care about the consequences of their rhetoric.&#8221;
&#8220;President-elect Trump had already faced multiple assassination attempts,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Clyburn’s comments this morning only add fuel to the fire.&#8221;
Claremont Institute senior fellow Jeremy Carl made a similar assessment of Clyburn&#8217;s remarks.
&#8220;Former long-time member of Democrat leadership throwing around this type of dangerous language at a President who has already been the victim of two assassination attempts,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It&#8217;s dangerous and outrageous.&#8221;
Radio host Julie Gunlock posted on X: &#8220;Yup. They want him dead. They’ll keep saying it.&#8221;

Anchor Dana Bash asked Clyburn about whether he was concerned after reporting that CNN &#8220;learned&#8221; that Harris&#8217; campaign would be rolling out new policies aimed at black men.
She then showed a clip of Trump, at one of his campaign rallies, discussing the support he is getting from the black community.
&#8220;I love black men. I love them! I have gone through the roof with black men &#8230; I don&#8217;t do quite as well with black women, I must say. I don&#8217;t know why, but I&#8217;m sure that will work out too,&#8221; Trump said.
Bash also said that Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-MI), who recently campaigned with Clyburn in Michigan, explained why black men are warming up to Trump.
Dingel &#8220;says that the message she&#8217;s hearing from black men is — quote — &#8216;Democrats take us for granted. Donald Trump talks to us directly,'&#8221; Bash said.
The results of an NAACP poll released this summer <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/one-four-us-black-men-under-50-support-trump-president-naacp-poll-finds-2024-09-13/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> one-in-four black men backing Trump for president, a sign that Democrats may be losing ground among that group.
Clyburn, who is widely credited with saving President Joe Biden&#8217;s 2020 campaign, insisted that he was not letting his own anxiety about the rave keep him from being &#8220;energetic&#8221; about Harris&#8217; presidential bid.
&#8220;Yes, black men, like everybody else, want to know exactly what I can expect from a Harris administration. And I have been very direct with them,&#8221; Clyburn said.
Clyburn claimed another Trump administration would embrace &#8220;Jim Crow 2.0&#8221; via policies from Project 2025, a Heritage Foundation plan that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/director-project-2025-is-stepping-down-trump-campaign-welcomes-projects-demise" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump has disavowed</a>.
Earlier this year, the congressman made a <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/rep-jim-clyburn-very-concerned-black-voter-turnout-out-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">similar warning</a> about black voter turnout for Biden prior to the sitting president bowing out of his re-election campaign.
Former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/barack-obama" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barack Obama</a> <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/obama-suggests-black-men-wont-vote-for-kamala-because-of-misogyny" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suggested</a> last week that black men will not vote for Harris because of misogyny.
&#8220;Part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that,&#8221; Obama said.
Trump&#8217;s campaign fired back at Obama with a <a href="https://x.com/EricLDaugh/status/1845229528203001962" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> from the &#8220;Black Men for Trump Advisory Board&#8221; that included Reps. Byron Donalds (R-FL) and Wesley Hunt (R-TX).
&#8220;It’s demeaning to suggest that we can’t evaluate a candidate’s track record — especially when Kamala Harris has done more harm than good to Black communities,&#8221; they said.

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) defended President Joe Biden&#8217;s disastrous debate performance during an interview over the weekend, claiming that Biden has a hard time getting a &#8220;word out&#8221; because he is a &#8220;stutterer.&#8221;
Clyburn made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; with co-host Dana Bash.
The 83-year-old excused Biden&#8217;s &#8220;bad performance&#8221; by claiming: &#8220;I have been a part of debate preparation before, and I know when I see what I call preparation overload. And that&#8217;s exactly what was going on the other night.&#8221;
&#8220;I saw Joe Biden grabbing for words and phrases and even numbers that he was loaded up with,&#8221; he claimed.
He said that he believes that Biden should &#8220;very clearly he should stay in this race&#8221;, even though new polling released on Sunday by CBS News found that only 27% of voters believe that he has the mental fitness to continue serving as president.
&#8220;Joe Biden has a history of stuttering. He did that as a child. All of us know how stutterers operate. I went to school with one,&#8221; he said. &#8220;So, when you have trouble getting out a word, that is what comes from stuttering. But when he expressed opinions, he was on the money with the opinions. He may not have gotten the word out, but the thoughts were great.&#8221;

James Clyburn (D-SC) joined MSNBC on Wednesday to tout President Joe Biden&#8217;s record on the economy — specifically pointing to inflation and saying that it was &#8220;down&#8221; — and claimed that &#8220;disinformation&#8221; was the reason so many Americans weren&#8217;t seeing that progress.
Clyburn was still at it when &#8220;Morning Joe&#8221; host Mika Brzezinski — who agreed with Clyburn that &#8220;disinformation&#8221; was certainly a problem — broke in to point out the fact that inflation had risen more than expected in the last month.

&#8220;And so the inflation rates are down,&#8221; Clyburn began. &#8220;And people&#8217;s incomes are up. Unemployment is on the decrease. And although we see the prices at the stores costing more money, people are in fact earning greater incomes.&#8221;
&#8220;So what we&#8217;ve got to do is make sure that people see the policies of Biden administration, how they affect their everyday lives and get them to see in his policies that which is real, not what they may hear on social media,&#8221; Clyburn continued, arguing that &#8220;disinformation&#8221; on social media platforms was one of the main reasons people didn&#8217;t believe the Biden economy was working in their favor.
Brzezinski echoed Clyburn&#8217;s concerns about the impact of &#8220;disinformation,&#8221; but then shared a headline showing the most recent Consumer Price Index data — which revealed a greater-than-expected <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bidens-claims-of-economic-victory-slapped-back-by-worse-than-expected-inflation-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increase in the inflation rate</a> for the month of March: 3.5%, the highest increase in 6 months.
&#8220;There&#8217;s also a lack of validation that these voters feel,&#8221; Brzezinski said. &#8220;And I&#8217;m going to bring in Andrew Ross Sorkin right now because we just got breaking news — the Consumer Price Index increased at a faster-than-expected pace last month, a signal that inflation remains stubbornly high.&#8221;

The myriad of gaffes by President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden">Joe Biden</a> has &#8220;nothing to do with his brain,&#8221; a veteran Democrat in Congress said on Saturday as he pointed to Biden&#8217;s lifelong fight to overcome a stutter.
Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-SC), a co-chair of Biden&#8217;s re-election campaign, defended the 81-year-old president during an <a href="https://grabien.com/story.php?id=461525" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview on CNN</a> as polls <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/86-of-americans-say-biden-too-old-for-another-term-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">show up to 86%</a> of Americans believe Biden is too old to serve a second term in the White House.
&#8220;If Joe Biden commits a gaffe, a guy who stuttered all of his childhood, into his adulthood and everybody knows his stuttering is what caused a lot of his speech impediments, and we know that. It has nothing to do with his brain, he stumbles one time and everybody says, &#8216;He’s too old to be the president,'&#8221; Clyburn said.
The congressman then alluded to the <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/02/19/presidents-survey-trump-ranks-last-biden-14th" target="_blank" rel="noopener">release</a> last week of a new survey of historians who ranked all the presidents from best to worst, placing Biden in 14 place and Trump in last place.
&#8220;Look, we had a president of these United States, I saw the rankings the other day, who was in the top ten, and some people got him in the top three: Franklin Roosevelt was in a wheelchair. It didn’t bother his brand,&#8221; Clyburn said.
Fresh questions about Biden&#8217;s ability to lead effectively were spurred by this month&#8217;s release of a report by special counsel Robert Hur that criticized Biden&#8217;s handling of classified documents. Although Hur did not recommend charges, the report added that Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/special-counsel-biden-has-significantly-limited-memory-didnt-remember-when-he-was-vp-or-when-son-died" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exhibited memory problems</a> that likely would preclude a jury from convicting him.
Biden responded to Hur&#8217;s findings in an impromptu press conference during which he insisted that his memory was &#8220;fine&#8221; and then <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-explodes-during-press-conference-on-his-mental-fitness-makes-several-mental-mistakes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">mixed up world leaders</a>. In the days leading up to the report&#8217;s unveiling, Biden made headlines for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-bungles-history-again-says-he-spoke-with-dead-german-chancellor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">talking about discussions</a> with European heads of state who had died by the time he said the conversations took place.

Clyburn suggested former President Donald Trump, who is also running for re-election, does not get the same amount of press as Biden when it comes to gaffes or &#8220;meandering&#8221; remarks.
Although polls do <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/86-of-americans-say-biden-too-old-for-another-term-poll" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not reflect as much concern</a> about the age of 77-year-old Trump, Clyburn insisted, &#8220;There&#8217;s something wrong with Trump, and we noticed something wrong with Trump.&#8221;

Rep. James Clyburn (D-SC) blamed former President Donald Trump for the 2015 shooting at Mother Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina by a white supremacist who has since been sentenced to death for murdering nine African-Americans during the attack.
Clyburn made the remarks during a Sunday interview on CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; while discussing President Joe Biden&#8217;s upcoming trip to the state.
&#8220;Is it fair to tie in any way what happened at the Emanuel AME Church to Donald Trump?&#8221; Tapper asked Clyburn &#8220;Donald Trump had barely launched his campaign when that attack happened.&#8221;
&#8220;I think it is very clear that Donald Trump&#8217;s utterances way back before Charlottesville or at the time of Charlottesville ties him to what happened at Mother Emanuel,&#8221; Clyburn claimed. &#8220;The fact of the matter is, that young man went into that church&#8217;s basement, joined with those worshipers in Bible study, and murdered them.&#8221;
&#8220;And he said at the time that he was attempting to create a race war. But the people of Charleston, South Carolina, the families of the affected victims all came together to get beyond hate and reach out to help continue this pursuit of a more perfect union,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Donald Trump looked at those people in Charlottesville and said that there were good people on both sides. And those people were uttering things like, &#8216;Jews will not replace us.&#8217; That is a religion. The AME Church Emanuel, that is religion. And Donald Trump has said things in support of those activities that ties him closely to what happened at Mother Emanuel.&#8221;

With discussions now underway about the next <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives">House</a> speaker, a top Democrat offered a couple names from among his GOP peers who could take on the role.
The assistant Democratic leader in the House, Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/james-clyburn">James Clyburn</a> (D-SC), shared a brief list during an <a href="https://grabien.com/story.php?id=442291">appearance on MSNBC</a>, less than a day after the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-ousted-from-speakership-after-democrats-side-with-matt-gaetz">chamber ousted</a> Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kevin-mccarthy">Kevin McCarthy</a> (R-CA) from his perch as speaker.
He mentioned House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), who <a href="https://twitter.com/casssemyon/status/1709621676873302355">announced</a> on Wednesday his intent to run for speaker following reports saying he was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-majority-leader-steve-scalise-will-run-for-speaker-report">lobbying</a> for support for a bid.
&#8220;There are people on both sides that could do this. I think that their leader &#8230; I know he&#8217;s having some health problems, but Steve Scalise is a great guy,&#8221; Clyburn said.
Scalise has been receiving treatment for blood cancer. Last week, Scalise told reporters that the cancer has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/rep-steve-scalise-delivers-update-on-cancer-battle">&#8220;dropped dramatically&#8221;</a> because of chemotherapy.
Clyburn also suggested Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK), who is chairman of the House Rules Committee.
&#8220;I think that Cole would be a sort of — the kind of tone that we would like to see,&#8221; Clyburn said.
Clyburn ultimately reasoned that he will &#8220;let&#8221; Republicans &#8220;handle their business and we&#8217;re going to handle ours and hopefully they do something that will make the American people pleased with our activities here in Washington.&#8221;

The congressman noted that he believes the Democrats have viable candidates, too, to serve as speaker, &#8220;most especially&#8221; Minority Leader <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hakeem-jeffries">Hakeem Jeffries</a> (D-NY).
The House <a href="https://clerk.house.gov/Votes/2023519">voted 216-210</a> on Tuesday to remove McCarthy as speaker, a role he held since January. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-fires-back-at-the-8-republicans-who-upended-his-speakership">Eight Republicans</a> joined with Democrats to vote against McCarthy, citing frustrations with his leadership: Matt Gaetz (FL), Andy Biggs (AZ), Ken Buck (CO), Eli Crane (AZ), Bob Good (VA), Matt Rosendale (MT), Tim Burchett (TN), and Nancy Mace (SC).
Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) became temporary speaker as lawmakers hash out who will run for the gavel. A simple majority will be needed to secure victory. The speaker does not have to be a sitting member of the House, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/29/opinion/kevin-mccarthy-house-speaker-vote.html">according to the Constitution</a>, and there has been some chatter about nominating former President Donald Trump.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jim-jordan-enters-race-for-house-speaker">said</a> on Wednesday he will run for speaker, setting up a clash with Scalise.

&#8220;The investigation found that two unvetted and unregulated fintechs that, together, facilitated nearly one in every three PPP loans funded in 2021 — Womply and Blueacorn — failed to implement systems capable of consistently detecting and preventing fraudulent and otherwise ineligible PPP applications,&#8221; a <a href="https://coronavirus.house.gov/sites/democrats.coronavirus.house.gov/files/2022.12.01%20How%20Fintechs%20Facilitated%20Fraud%20in%20the%20Paycheck%20Protection%20Program.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">committee report</a> released Thursday said.
Blueacorn gave nearly $300 million in profits to its owners but spent only $8.6 million on fraud prevention, the report said. It spent far more on marketing, and Blueacorn advertised &#8220;free money&#8221; in &#8220;30 seconds&#8221; to applicants, according to the report from the committee, which is led by Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-South Carolina).
Blueacorn had a small company called Elev8 Advisors, which was &#8220;run by a member of Blueacorn’s senior leadership,&#8221; review loan applications, and it was staffed with dozens of friends and family of the owner. The owner, Kristen Spencer, wrote in a text message obtained by the committee: “We are doing this for the people we hired to make money. Our friends and family. That is where the money is going. And it will be life changing money for anyone who does it.”
Employees were told that reviewing each loan should take them &#8220;less than 30 seconds,&#8221; employees told the committee.
Elev8&#8217;s owners, Kristen and Adam Spencer, also received $200,000 in PPP loans — even though the pandemic had been a boon for their business, not a hardship — around the same time they purchased an $8 million mansion in cash, the report said. One of the loans claimed Kristen was an &#8220;interior architect&#8221; for her husband&#8217;s company, even though that company was located in a WeWork, according to the investigation.
Blueacorn&#8217;s owners focused on big loans, which brought the largest commissions, and ignored those from small business owners, writing &#8220;who f***ing cares&#8221; and &#8220;delete them,&#8221; the report said. Blueacorn is owned by Nathan Reis and Stephanie Hockridge. The company also received $300,000 in PPP loans for itself, some of which were vetted by itself. And on the application, Reis falsely claimed to be black and a veteran, the report said.
Another fintech company, Womply, had revenue of $2 billion in 2021 and a gross profit margin of nearly 90%. Lending partners said its anti-fraud controls were &#8220;put together with duct tape and gum,&#8221; the report said. Additionally, the SBA said that even the application for $5 million in PPP loans that Womply filed for itself was ineligible.
Womply CEO Toby Scammell was convicted of insider trading in 2014 and led the company&#8217;s fraud prevention efforts. He also instructed the company not to cooperate with federal investigators, the report said.
Criminals quickly realized that they should apply through fintech firms if they wanted fake loans approved, according to the report. One gang member said that &#8220;everybody in the hood&#8221; was using Womply, according to the report. Investigators believe the PPP loans were used to buy guns and drugs.
Another fintech called Kabbage approved more than 300,000 loans. Its employees were concerned that fraud rates were &#8220;wildly underestimated,&#8221; but a manager told them &#8220;the risk here is not ours – it is SBA’s risk,” the report said.
The report concluded that &#8220;Based on these findings, Congress and the SBA should consider carefully whether unregulated businesses such as fintechs, many of which are not subject to the same regulations as financial institutions, should be permitted to play a leading role in future federal lending programs.&#8221;
The PPP program is overseen by the Small Business Administration. The SBA’s Inspector General has said the levels of fraud present in the PPP program were “unprecedented,” and that &#8220;This problem occurred because the agency did not establish a sufficient fraud risk framework at the start of and throughout PPP implementation.”

&#8220;The South is left out of it and what I&#8217;m doing is trying to make sure that we do not tilt too far to the east or too far to the west,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;But maintain what we have here. There&#8217;s no other southerner among the leadership ranks and we need the south. We need these historically black colleges and universities. If it weren&#8217;t for Georgia, where would the Senate be today? And the last time I checked, Georgia is south of South Carolina.&#8221;

Democrat Rep. Jim Clyburn Explains Why It’s ‘Necessary’ For Him To Remain In Power

The combined age of the top three Democrat leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives is 247.
America is 246 years old. Let that sink in.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is 82. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) is 83. And House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC) is 82.
And from what we know a week after the 2022 midterm elections, none of them have any intention of leaving office any time soon (after all, they all just won new two-year terms).
But Democrats are trailing in the battle to hold control of the House. Republicans have won 211 seats compared to Democrats&#8217; 206, with 218 needed for a majority in the 435-seat chamber.
&#8220;There are still some 18 outstanding House races, including 13 considered closely competitive, according to a Reuters compilation of the leading nonpartisan forecasters. Ten of the remaining contests were in liberal-leaning California,&#8221; Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-house-control-hinges-tight-races-after-democrats-take-senate-2022-11-14/">reported</a>.
If the GOP takes control, Pelosi will be out as Speaker and the others will lose leadership roles. At 82 &#8212; with a maximum net wealth of as much as $251 million, <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2021/03/16/fact-check-house-speaker-nancy-pelosis-net-worth-inflated-meme/4707087001/">according</a> to USA Today &#8212; Pelosi could just walk away and retire to a life of luxury.
But the Speaker&#8217;s fortune has <a href="https://freebeacon.com/democrats/the-stock-market-made-nancy-pelosi-rich-now-she-wants-to-ban-her-colleagues-from-trading/">grown $140 million</a> since 2008, thanks in part to her husband&#8217;s stock trades, and she&#8217;s made clear that she&#8217;s not going anywhere.
&#8220;There are all kinds of ways to exert influence. The speaker has awesome power, but I will always have influence,&#8221; she <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/pelosi-says-she-does-not-plan-step-away-us-congress-2022-11-13/">told</a> CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; program.
&#8220;My decision will then be rooted in the wishes of my family and the wishes of my caucus. But none of it will be very much considered until we see the outcome of all of this,&#8221; Pelosi told CNN.
The question must be asked: Why not live out your final years in peace and quiet, away from the contentious political struggles and intraparty backbiting inside the Capitol?
One answer is simple: Lying in state.
Politicians are not known for their humility. The hubris permeates even the Supreme Court. Take Ruth Bader Ginsberg. She had battled cancer and health issues for years, and in her mid-80s, Democrats implored her to step down so that President Barack Obama could nominate her replacement.
She didn&#8217;t, and she died in September 2020. President Donald Trump quickly nominated her replacement, Amy Coney Barrett, who was approved by the GOP-controlled Senate before Democrats took control just eight days later.
Ginsberg lay &#8220;in repose&#8221; at the Supreme Court for two days as thousands of mourners lined up to walk past the casket. She then lay in state at the Capitol and was buried beside her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
That&#8217;s what many politicians want: They crave a lengthy lovefest even after they die &#8212; and it&#8217;s not solely Democrats; Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) orchestrated his own weeklong set of somber remembrances before his death in 2018.
The dinosaur situation is the same in the Senate. Democrat Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is 71. Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) is 77. Assistant Democratic Leader Patty Murray (D-WA) is 72. Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), chairman of the Policy and Communications Committee, is 72. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), vice chairman of the conference, is 73. And Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), chairman of outreach, is 81.
None of them have plans to hand over the reins to a younger generation. In fact, Pelosi over the weekend urged President Joe Biden, who turns 80 later this month, to run for re-election in 2024, saying “he has accomplished so much.&#8221;
“President Biden has been a great president for our country,” Pelosi said on ABC’s “This Week.&#8221; “Over 10 million jobs under his leadership. Working with the private sector, of course. He has just done so many things that are so great. &#8230; He has been a great president and he has a great record to run on.”
So the dinosaurs are here to stay &#8212; at least on the Democrat side of the aisle. A frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, is just 44 years old with three young children.
We didn&#8217;t get the Red Wave on Election Day. But let&#8217;s hope for a Youth Wave next time.

After a brief back-and-forth, Bream asked, &#8220;Are voters, though, out there listening to this message to infer from what you&#8217;re saying that if they don&#8217;t vote for Democrats in this election, that they are somehow supporting something akin to the rise of Hitler?&#8221;
&#8220;No, if they don&#8217;t vote against election deniers, if they don&#8217;t vote against liars, people who will lie, know full well they&#8217;re lying, we all know they are lying,&#8221; Clyburn responded. &#8220;This was cleanest election in the history of the country, Donald Trump&#8217;s own appointee said it was the cleanest in the history of the country. So, if they are lying, they&#8217;re denying, they&#8217;re trying to delete, they&#8217;re trying to nullify our votes, vote against that foolishness.&#8221;

BREAM: Congressman, you&#8217;ve repeatedly made comments about Hitler, about Nazism, about Germany in the 1930s in recent years. You&#8217;ve gotten a lot of pushback from that from Jewish organizations and others who say it belittles the suffering of the Holocaust, of the millions who were lost.
Your response?
CLYBURN: I&#8217;ve talked to many Jews. We have many Jews in my congressional district, and they are very &#8212; supporters of mine. They note that this is a stuff that causes those kinds of deterioration in democracy. This is not anything about whether &#8212; how difficult it was, I talk about slavery and how difficult it was.
But that &#8212; to discuss the facts of what&#8217;s going on here, election deniers setting up positions (ph) by which little (ph) committees by governors can overturn the results of election, to call the press the enemy of the people, to co-op evangelicals &#8212; and I grew up in a Christian faith, in a parsonage, born and raised in a parsonage.
I know a whole lot about religion, and I know there&#8217;s always an attempt to co-op religions and that is going on here.
BREAM: OK, Congressman &#8212;
CLYBURN: And people want to deny it, that&#8217;s fine.
BREAM: OK, but &#8212;
CLYBURN: But the facts are very clear. I studied history all of my life.
BREAM: OK.
CLYBURN: I taught history and I&#8217;m telling you what I see here are parallels to what the history was &#8212;
BREAM: OK.
CLYBURN: &#8212; in this world back in the 1930s &#8212;
BREAM: So, Congressman, then &#8212;
CLYBURN: &#8212; in Germany, in Italy.
BREAM: Okay. Are voters, though, out there listening to this message to infer from what you&#8217;re saying that if they don&#8217;t vote for Democrats in this election, that they are somehow supporting something akin to the rise of Hitler?
CLYBURN: No, if they don&#8217;t vote against election deniers, if they don&#8217;t vote against liars, people who will lie, know full well they&#8217;re lying, we all know they are lying.
This was cleanest election in the history of the country, Donald Trump&#8217;s own appointee said it was the cleanest in the history of the country.

So, Congressman, to look back on some conversations about election deniers, we&#8217;ve talked about on the show that Democrats have spent more than $40 million making sure that some of those people got through primary &#8212; GOP primaries so that they then could face off in the general election. Do Democrats bear some responsibility for putting those people now on the ballot?
CLYBURN: No, we didn&#8217;t put them up. Those people &#8212;

BREAM: But you spent millions to get them there.
CLYBURN: I&#8217;m sorry?
BREAM: But you spent millions to get many of them there, where they are in the general election ballot.
CLYBURN: Well, you know, I read about that. I believe that you should always try to best position yourself to win in the general election. I&#8217;m not a proponent of that process. I understand it takes place on both sides. But I&#8217;m just not a proponent of it, but I can understand it.
BREAM: OK. So, I want to play a little bit more language over the last week from Democrats about what is at stake in this election.

BARACK OBAMA, FORMER PRESIDENT: Democracy as we know it may not survive in Arizona, that&#8217;s not an exaggeration. That is a fact.
JOE BIDEN, PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES: But, there is something else at stake, democracy itself.
CLYBURN: But losing this democracy could very well be the end of the world.

BREAM: OK. So, were you asking voters to set aside what they feel about the economy?
Because &#8220;The Wall Street Journal&#8217;s&#8221; Kimberley Strassel has this piece: Voters have sat through this apocalyptic movie many times now, and know its anticlimactic ending. Besides they&#8217;re busy searching for spare change to cover their rising grocery bills.
So, set aside economy and worries about crime which are at the top of all of voter polls about what they&#8217;re worried about, and instead vote for you where the world is ending?
CLYBURN: Nobody is saying the world is ending. The world did not end &#8212;

BREAM: You did say there, though, that it could be the end of the world.
CLYBURN: No, democracy will be ending. The world will continue to exist. The world was here before Hitler and the world was here after Hitler. That&#8217;s what we&#8217;re saying.
No, the world will not end. The kind of world we have, the kind of country we have. We&#8217;ve got to decide how do we want to exist in this world, and that&#8217;s what we&#8217;re talking about.
This hyperbole is not part of what we&#8217;re saying here. We&#8217;re talking about what kind of country we have and what kind of world we have.
BREAM: OK. Congressman, just to be clear, though, I want to read your quote. It says: But losing this democracy could very well be the end of the world. That&#8217;s a direct quote from you.
CLYBURN: End of the world, come on.

BREAM: Well, a lot of voters feel that way, when you say that. They think &#8212; they have the same reaction.
CLYBURN: Well, if that&#8217;s a quote from me, it &#8212; I misspoke. It won&#8217;t end the world.
BREAM: OK.
CLYBURN: No, I have no idea &#8212;

BREAM: OK. Well, that&#8217;s good news for everyone heading to the ballot boxes on Tuesday. Finally &#8212;
CLYBURN: But having (AUDIO GAP) one to teach history, we live in worlds that we do not like. My forbearers lived through slavery. They did not like that existence for 250 years. But it was not the end of the world, it may be the end the world as they would have it, but it will not end the world.

In an interview with Fox News Friday, Clyburn reacted to the violent attack on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/paul-pelosi" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Paul Pelosi</a> last week. Clyburn said that the country was following the path of the Weimar Republic in 1930s Germany, the fall of which led to the rise of an authoritarian leader, Adolf Hitler. Clyburn&#8217;s comments are the latest example of Democrats and media figures&#8217; escalating, alarmist rhetoric about &#8220;threats to democracy&#8221; posed by Republicans.
&#8220;This is what happens in a country that follows what happened in Germany in the early 30s,” Clyburn told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/house-majority-whip-track-repeat-nazi-germany-downplays-inflation-ahead-midterms" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fox News</a>. &#8220;I said this in 2018, and caught a lot of hell from a lot of people for having said it. But it was true then, and it&#8217;s true now: this country is on track to repeat what happened in Germany when it was the greatest democracy going, when it elected a chancellor who then co-opted the media. This past president called the press the enemy of the people. That is a bunch of crap. &#8230; And that is what&#8217;s going on in this country.&#8221;
Clyburn defended rhetoric from President Joe Biden about the &#8220;threats to democracy&#8221; posed by so-called &#8220;MAGA Republicans,&#8221; claiming that while Republicans targeted a person, Biden targeted a philosophy. &#8220;He talked about a philosophy that is taking place in this country,&#8221; said Clyburn. &#8220;He didn&#8217;t attribute it to one person that anyone could go and target, bust in their window, and beat &#8217;em in the head with a hammer. He never demonized any individual. He talked about a philosophy, and I would say the same thing.&#8221;
Clyburn then talked about the 2022 midterms, saying that voters have a right to vote in their own self-interest, but that must not be limited to inflation, but threats to democracy as well. &#8220;The question is, are we going to have a society that everyone can participate in? Or are we going to have an autocracy that&#8217;s run by one person?&#8221;
Clyburn is not the only prominent Democrat to compare Republicans, especially Trump-aligned or so-called &#8220;MAGA Republicans,&#8221; to Nazi Germany in recent weeks. Former Secretary of State and failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton compared a Trump rally in Ohio to a Nazi rally because his supporters <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hillary-clinton-likens-trump-supporters-to-nazis-because-they-pointed-in-the-air" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed in the air</a> while Trump spoke.
