Block, the parent company of Cash App and Square, announced Thursday it will be laying off more than 4,000 employees — a move that sent the company&#8217;s stock up 25% in after-hours trading.
For most companies, laying off nearly half the workforce would send stockholders into a panic, tanking the stock within minutes of the announcement. But in 2026, investors in Block appear to have the opposite perspective — viewing humans as a liability in the modern economy, thanks in large part to the AI revolution.
Block CEO Jack Dorsey <a href="https://x.com/jack/status/2027129697092731343?s=20">said</a> in a statement on X that the layoffs did not happen “because we&#8217;re in trouble,” but rather because “something has changed.”
“We&#8217;re already seeing that the intelligence tools we’re creating and using, paired with smaller and flatter teams, are enabling a new way of working which fundamentally changes what it means to build and run a company [sic]. and that&#8217;s accelerating rapidly,” Dorsey said.
Dorsey viewed job cuts resulting from AI implementation as inevitable and chose to rip off the band-aid.
“i had two options: cut gradually over months or years as this shift plays out, or be honest about where we are and act on it now [sic]. i chose the latter,” Dorsey said. “repeated rounds of cuts are destructive to morale, to focus, and to the trust that customers and shareholders place in our ability to lead [sic].”
The layoffs are part of a broader shakeout in tech, where companies including Salesforce, CrowdStrike, Pinterest, and Chegg are shedding workers as AI absorbs key functions.
In a letter to shareholders, Dorsey predicted that, within the next year, “the majority of companies will reach the same conclusion and make similar structural changes.”
Block’s Q4 <a href="https://s29.q4cdn.com/628966176/files/doc_financials/2025/q4/Q4-2025-Shareholder-Letter_Block.pdf">numbers</a> were otherwise in the green, with gross profit increasing 24% year-over-year. Block CFO Amrita Ahuja told investors that the cuts are necessary “for our next phase of long-term growth.”
&#8220;We are choosing to shift how we operate at a time when our business is accelerating and we see an opportunity to move faster with smaller, highly talented teams using AI to automate more work,&#8221; Ahuja said.

Musk, who bought the company for $44 billion in October, has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-twitter-files-part-v-chinese-employee-warned-co-workers-against-censoring-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">systematically uncovering and revealing disturbing evidence</a> of how Twitter’s ultra-woke senior managers worked with the FBI to silence conservatives and potentially affect the 2020 presidential election. The public cleansing has confirmed the suspicions of conservatives, who had long believed they were “shadow banned” or stifled on the platform despite Dorsey’s insistence they were not.
Now Dorsey says platforms such as Twitter must resist trying to control the public conversation and rely on “algorithmic choice,” not the whims of individuals, to moderate extreme content.
“The Twitter when I led it and the Twitter of today do not meet any of these principles,” Dorsey wrote. “This is my fault alone, as I completely gave up pushing for them when an activist entered our stock in 2020.”

The activist Dorsey referred to is believed to be the hedge fund Elliott Management, which in 2020 bought a big chunk of Twitter stock and then began trying to oust Dorsey as CEO. Dorsey finally did step down as CEO in November of 2021, more than a year after the platform had suppressed the explosive Hunter Biden laptop story and well after it banned then-President Donald Trump, despite Musk’s new revelations showing Trump had not explicitly violated any of Twitter’s rules.
Elliott sold off all of its stake in Twitter for a hefty profit after Musk initially agreed to buy the company in April, according to the <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/b394b343-2a35-4674-8324-3d245fbea663" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Financial Times</a>.
Dorsey wrote that he regretted that Twitter under his leadership tried to manage what people said on the platform.
“The biggest mistake I made was continuing to invest in building tools for us to manage the public conversation, versus building tools for the people using Twitter to easily manage it for themselves,” he wrote. “This burdened the company with too much power, and opened us to significant outside pressure (such as advertising budgets).”
Dorsey said that Twitter grew under him to have too much power and lamented the decision to ban Trump in the aftermath of the January 6 riots.
“I generally think companies have become far too powerful, and that became completely clear to me with our suspension of Trump&#8217;s account,” he wrote. “As I&#8217;ve said before, we did the right thing for the public company business at the time, but the wrong thing for the internet and society.”

An independent cybersecurity data analyst working alongside top officials at Twitter found accounts posting content that allegedly sexually exploited children garnered more than ten million views on the platform under previous ownership.
Andrea Stroppa, founder of cybersecurity group Ghost Data, personally funded <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/major-companies-remove-advertisements-from-twitter-over-child-pornography-allegations">research</a> last summer that resulted in the eradication of more than 500 accounts soliciting Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), which led approximately 30 major advertisers to pull or pause their ad services on their Twitter accounts.
A new report from the data analyst released Friday found that more than 95% of several active accounts exploiting CSAM, which allegedly included videos of children and teens involved in sexual activities, &#8220;acted with impunity for years.&#8221;

Stroppa said those accounts have since been taken down.
Twitter&#8217;s alleged CSAM problem has been <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/aug/13/twitter-failure-child-pornography">documented</a> for more than a decade.
Last summer, Twitter claimed that the company aggressively fights online child sexual abuse; however, a Twitter Red Team report from an Adult Content Monetization project found that although the platform invested in technologies to detect and manage the issue, &#8220;growth has not.&#8221;
&#8220;Twitter cannot accurately detect child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity at scale,&#8221; the Red Team concluded in April 2022, according to <a href="https://www.theverge.com/23327809/twitter-onlyfans-child-sexual-content-problem-elon-musk">The Verge</a>.
Last year, 86,666 CSAM <a href="https://www.missingkids.org/content/dam/missingkids/pdfs/2021-reports-by-esp.pdf">reports</a> on Twitter were made to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which plays a key role after Internet sites — like Twitter — remove the material. When CSAM is detected and removed, the report goes to the center, which contacts law enforcement for further action.
Twitter also faces two significant lawsuits involving two minor survivors allegedly exploited on that platform. In one case, a video garnered more than 160,000 views and over 2,000 retweets. Yet, Twitter allegedly refused to remove the content, despite the minor survivor requesting its removal while on the brink of suicide.
&#8220;I found that old Twitter, in many cases related to child sexual abuse material published on the platform by malicious users, instead of suspending the whole account, just removed the tweet,&#8221; Stroppa said. &#8220;Now Twitter, under Elon Musk&#8217;s leadership, directly suspends the accounts.&#8221;
For context, one previous <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/twitter-bans-over-57k-accounts-for-promoting-child-porn-nudity-in-india/articleshow/94589378.cms">report</a> showed the platform removed as many as 57,000 profiles in one month before Musk&#8217;s acquisition compared to the 44,000 removed in a single day.
Twitter itself reported last week the company suspended 57% of accounts who create, distribute, or engage with child sexual exploitation material, which the platform said is “significantly more than any other month YTD.”

Eliza Bleu, a survivor advocate of those affected by human trafficking, has been speaking out against CSAM on Twitter since shortly after joining the platform in 2019.
On Friday, Bleu co-hosted a Twitter space with crypto stock trader Tara Bull featuring a group interview of Musk, Irwin, and Stroppa.
Irwin said she &#8220;was shocked to find that there were such gaping holes in some of these really critical areas like, for example, child safety.&#8221;
Irwin, who joined the company in June, said she could only speak to the data set for this year.
&#8220;I can’t speak to the last five years at Twitter,&#8221; Irwin said. &#8220;So certainly, multiple statements could be true here. But what I would say is that when I joined Twitter, I was actually fairly shocked at just how much attrition had happened and without any replacement.”
Legacy media reports, however, say otherwise, claiming Twitter slashed its child safety team after Musk took over.
&#8220;The reality is when you refuse to staff things that are this important, and you&#8217;re still staffing other things — like a product launch that may not be as critical — and meanwhile you&#8217;ve got all this going on, or some other program that is nowhere near as critical as some of these issues, the reality is you&#8217;ve lost sight of the priorities,&#8221; Irwin said. &#8220;The users, user protection, keeping illegal content off the platform should always be number one.&#8221;
Musk said during the space learning about the issue &#8220;shocked&#8221; him upon purchasing the platform.
&#8220;This is literally the top priority in the whole company that Twitter cannot be used for child exploitation,&#8221; Musk said, adding the issue remains the platform&#8217;s &#8220;number one priority.&#8221;
&#8220;Hopefully, lives are saved, and lives are also improved,&#8221; he added.
Bleu noted in the Twitter space her gratitude for the changes happening within Twitter after years of sounding the alarm about the exploitation of children on the platform.
&#8220;I understand the stakes,&#8221; Bleu said. &#8220;This is life or death for minor survivors around the globe — I do not take this issue lightly.&#8221;

Twitter CEO Elon Musk slammed former CEO Jack Dorsey on the platform late this week over the reported lack of action that the company took against removing child porn from the site.
Musk&#8217;s remarks came in response to several members of Twitter&#8217;s &#8220;Trust and Safety Council&#8221; resigning from the company because they claimed that Musk was making the platform less safe.
The tweet, posted by Anne Collier, Founder and Executive Director of The Net Safety Collaborative, generated a response from political commentator Mike Cernovich, who tweeted at her, &#8220;You all belong in jail.&#8221;
Cernovich included in his tweet a link to a New York Post article from last January that documented allegations from a teenage sex trafficking victim who claimed that the company did not remove pornographic images of the 13-year-old because the company &#8220;didn&#8217;t find a violation.&#8221;
&#8220;It is a crime that they refused to take action on child exploitation for years!&#8221; Musk responded to Cernovich&#8217;s tweet.
Dorsey responded, &#8220;this is false.&#8221;

The world’s richest man, who said he bought the company for $44 billion in order to reserve a corner of the public square for open dialogue and free expression, induced <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftists-fume-after-musk-takes-over-twitter-its-like-the-gates-of-hell-opened-on-this-site" target="_blank" rel="noopener">leftist ire</a> after he officially took over the platform last week. Musk said that a number of advertisers have ended their relationships with the company over the past several days, dealing a significant blow to the business.
“Twitter has had a massive drop in revenue, due to activist groups pressuring advertisers, even though nothing has changed with content moderation and we did everything we could to appease the activists,” Musk tweeted. “Extremely messed up! They’re trying to destroy free speech in America.”

A number of leftist-aligned organizations, including Media Matters for America, the NAACP, the National Center for Transgender Equality, and the Union of Concerned Scientists, recently wrote a <a href="https://www.freepress.net/sites/default/files/2022-11/coalition_open_letter_to_twitter_top_20_advertisers_final.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to the executives of major advertisers, calling on them to “cease all advertising” if Musk backs down from content moderation.
“Not only are extremists celebrating Musk’s takeover of Twitter, they are seeing it as a new opportunity to post the most abusive, harassing, and racist language and imagery,” the organizations alleged. “This includes clear threats of violence against people with whom they disagree. Without deliberate efforts by Twitter to address this type of abuse and hate, your brands will be actively supporting accelerating extremism.”

Ghost Data, a cybersecurity group, released a new research report reviewed by Reuters about child sex abuse online that allegedly identified links to exploitative material containing child pornography. The information has led companies like Dyson, Ecolab, and Mazda to pause or pull their ads or campaigns from the platform.
&#8220;There is no place for this type of content online,&#8221; a spokesperson for Mazda USA said in a statement to Reuters.
The carmaker now prohibits its ads from appearing on Twitter profile pages.
According to the report, more than 500 accounts openly shared or requested child sex abuse material for 20 days during September 2022. Of those accounts, more than 70% were still active during the study.
Celeste Carswell, a spokesperson for Twitter, told Reuters that the company reviewed, removed, and permanently suspended the complete list of accounts for violating its rules, adding that the platform &#8220;has zero tolerance for child sexual exploitation.&#8221;
David Maddocks, brand president at Cole Haan, told Reuters the company is &#8220;horrified&#8221; after learning about Twitter&#8217;s alleged child porn problem.
&#8220;Either Twitter is going to fix this, or we&#8217;ll fix it by any means we can, which includes not buying Twitter ads.&#8221;
The shoe and accessories brand had a promoted tweet next to another post from a user who said they were &#8220;trading teen/child&#8221; content.
Other tweets from the Ghost Data report found that some included terms related to &#8220;rape&#8221; and &#8220;teens&#8221; displayed next to corporate advertisers. Another example allegedly promoted a tweet for Texas-based Scottish Rite Children&#8217;s Hospital, followed by a user searching for &#8220;Yung girls ONLY, NO Boys.&#8221;
Twitter officials have since invested more resources into protecting children&#8217;s safety by hiring new positions to write policies and provide solutions to prevent the problem.
Eliza Bleu, a survivor advocate of those affected by human trafficking, has been speaking out against Twitter&#8217;s alleged child pornography problem since shortly after joining the platform in 2019.
In August 2020, she met with Twitter officials that former CEO Jack Dorsey had set up.
&#8220;I had one request,&#8221; Bleu told The Daily Wire. &#8220;I wanted them to remove child sexual abuse material at scale.&#8221;
Bleu said following the meeting, they offered her a position on Twitter’s Trust and Safety Committee, but she declined because she refused to &#8220;work with or for abusers.&#8221;
&#8220;I couldn&#8217;t knowingly profit off child sexual exploitation,&#8221; she said.
Bleu advocated for a minor survivor anonymously dubbed &#8220;John Doe&#8221; who filed a lawsuit last year against Twitter for allegedly allowing sexual abuse material of the child, who was solicited and recruited for sex trafficking and had to endure his own sexual abuse material being promoted on Twitter, even after attempts were made to remove the content.
Bleu said the lawsuits brought by the two minor survivors didn&#8217;t send a message big enough for the platform to handle.
&#8220;It&#8217;s time to hit them where it hurts,&#8221; she said. &#8220;My only hope is that by the time all of the advertisers pull out, they have enough money left over to compensate the minor survivors.&#8221;
Andrea Stoppa, the founder of Ghost Data, said in a <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://twitter.com/andst7/status/1574471222318043155?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1574471222318043155%7Ctwgr%5E00ced6faf6cb31efb9d8ef41c6910b309d1f7d93%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fhumanevents.com%2F2022%2F09%2F28%2Fmajor-companies-are-pulling-twitter-ads-after-learning-they-appear-alongside-posts-peddling-child-porn" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweet</a> Monday that he promised to release research about Twitter, adding the company &#8220;has a severe problem with child pornography.&#8221;
&#8220;Since it is a sensitive topic, more time is needed to release the findings publicly (it does not depend on us), but research will come out soon,&#8221; Stroppa said.
Stroppa told Reuters he personally funded research into the platform&#8217;s child sexual abuse problem after receiving a tip about the severity of the issue.

Twitter is currently battling Musk in court over his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-purge-is-coming-twitter-explodes-after-elon-musk-tanks-44-billion-deal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attempt to cancel</a> a previous offer to buy the social media platform for $44 billion. Dorsey was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-subpoenas-jack-dorsey-for-key-information-related-to-twitter-lawsuit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">subpoenaed</a> by Musk last month over documents related to “the impact or effect of false or spam accounts on Twitter’s business and operations” and will face questions from both sides of the legal dispute on Tuesday, according to a <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-09-19/jack-dorsey-to-be-deposed-in-twitter-musk-lawsuit-on-tuesday" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Bloomberg.
Musk, a longtime friend of Dorsey, wants to cancel the merger over concerns that the actual share of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-the-latest-in-the-elon-musk-twitter-legal-feud" target="_blank" rel="noopener">fake accounts</a> on the platform could range as high as 33% rather than the company’s reported 5%, with a lower number of monetizable daily active users potentially justifying a lower valuation. A trial to determine the status of the acquisition is <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/its-happening-five-day-trial-date-set-for-elon-musk-twitter-dispute" target="_blank" rel="noopener">scheduled</a> for October 17.
Dorsey — who co-founded Twitter and resigned last year to lead financial transactions company Block — has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-issues-surprising-statement-about-elon-musk-buying-company" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> Musk and his mission to “extend the light of consciousness” the “singular solution” he trusts to run the social media company.
“I love Twitter. Twitter is the closest thing we have to a global consciousness,” Dorsey said. “The idea and service is all that matters to me, and I will do whatever it takes to protect both. Twitter as a company has always been my sole issue and my biggest regret. It has been owned by Wall Street and the ad model. Taking it back from Wall Street is the correct first step.”
Dorsey still retains a 2.4% stake in Twitter, which is now led by CEO Parag Agrawal. A majority of Twitter shareholders <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/majority-of-twitter-shareholders-want-elon-musk-at-helm-of-the-company">voted</a> last week to greenlight the merger deal with Musk, who remains the company’s largest shareholder through his 9.6% stake.
The weeks before the trial have been marked by a handful of victories for Musk’s team. Most recently, Delaware Chancery Court Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/22343657-decision-resolving-plaintiffs-third-discovery-motion-twitter-v-musk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> Twitter attorneys’ request to access Musk’s email accounts at Tesla and SpaceX on the grounds that such an arrangement would violate attorney-client privilege.
“Musk had ‘unrestricted’ personal use of his Tesla email account, that ‘no one’ at Tesla can access those emails without Musk’s consent or ‘to the extent legally necessary,’ and that ‘nobody’ at SpaceX can access his email account without Musk’s express consent,” McCormick remarked based on affidavits from lawyers and information technology professionals at the two companies. “These additional facts make Musk’s expectation of privacy objectively reasonable. Twitter’s motion is denied.”
McCormick also granted Musk’s lawyers permission to utilize the testimony of former Twitter executive Peiter Zatko, who claimed in a recent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-twitter-executive-blows-whistle-makes-explosive-claim-central-to-musk-acquisition-deal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">whistleblower report</a> that his colleagues did not have the resources or motivation necessary to calculate the number of fake accounts on the platform. Zatko <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/whistleblower-reveals-what-information-twitter-collects-from-users" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> members of the Senate Judiciary Committee last week that the company has a number of cybersecurity flaws, as well as exposure to foreign intelligence agencies.
However, attorneys for Twitter contested Musk’s rationale for passing on the deal by producing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/musk-afraid-of-world-war-iii-so-he-slowed-down-deal-twitter-argues">text messages</a> he sent to Michael Grimes, an executive at investment bank Morgan Stanley, indicating that he was concerned about macroeconomic conditions stemming from the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The messages could potentially place Musk in breach of contract, which binds the buyer to use his best efforts to complete a deal, and could work against his claim that an inaccurate number of false accounts was behind his recent hesitancy.

“Put a dent in the universe.”
That’s the motto of Peiter &#8220;Mudge&#8221; Zatko, the whistleblower behind an explosive Twitter complaint leaked to The Washington Post and CNN this week. There’s no question he’s living up to it.
Among the lax security standards Twitter&#8217;s ex-security chief <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-twitter-executive-blows-whistle-makes-explosive-claim-central-to-musk-acquisition-deal">details</a> in the report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission is the claim that Twitter bowed to pressure from India to hire a government agent. Zatko says the platform then permitted the alleged spy to have “unsupervised access” to sensitive user data. He also says a government source specifically warned the company that at least one employee was simultaneously working as a foreign intelligence agent. It’s worth noting that only two weeks ago, a former Twitter manager was <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/former-twitter-employee-found-guilty-acting-agent-foreign-government-and-unlawfully-sharing">found guilty</a> of being a Saudi mole and “unlawfully sharing Twitter user information.”
As if that level of foreign interference weren’t alarming enough, Zatko contends Twitter execs became dependent on Chinese money, allowing the CCP to gain information that could potentially put dissidents in China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan in danger. He also alleges that some of the company&#8217;s senior executives were aware that hostile nations like Russia were using the platform to run disinformation campaigns but took few steps to stop it.
The picture Zatko paints of the platform’s domestic security breaches is hardly rosier, with warnings that around half of Twitter staffers had unmonitored access to the platform&#8217;s central controls and user data and could choose at any moment to launch politically motivated sabotage against the company.
When Congress and the company’s board asked about these risks, Zatko claims Twitter’s leadership deliberately misled them. And when he brought his concerns to CEO Parag Agrawal, he says his reward for his candidness was getting fired, after less than two years on the job. All in all, Zatko charges, the company stands guilty of “extreme, egregious deficiencies,” lying to regulators, and violating its agreement with the Federal Trade Commission to uphold sound security practices.
The fallout Twitter faces now has been swift and severe. According to <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/08/24/twitter-whistleblower-senate-hearing/">The Washington Post</a>, Zatko has already taken several meetings on Capitol Hill, including a private meeting with staff members on the Judiciary Committee. And he’ll be testifying before Congress next month. Even Europe is taking notice, with EU agencies promising to look into potential data protection violations. Officials in France told <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2022/08/24/twitter-whistleblower-security-eu/">TechCrunch</a> that they are “currently investigating the complaint.”
And that’s to say nothing of Zatko’s claim that Twitter deliberately deceived Elon Musk about the number of bots on the platform—something that could have significant impact on the company’s $44 billion legal battle with the richest man in the world.
But just who is the man currently kicking a dent in the tech universe?
Arguably no one is in a better position than Zatko, 51, to know how vulnerable Silicon Valley is to hackers, given that he came to fame as hacker himself. Before Twitter founder Jack Dorsey hired him due, in part, for his reputation as a man willing to tell truth to power, before he led research projects for the Pentagon, before he joined Google’s advanced technology team, he was a cyberpunk legend known only as “Mudge.”
Born in Alabama to scientist parents, Mudge graduated at the top of his college class not with a degree in computer programming, but in music, his coding knowledge largely self-taught. Give his name a google and you’ll find grainy videos of him playing guitar on CNN, looking not unlike a young Ted Nugent. From there, he went on to join underground “hacktivist” collectives like Cult of the Dead Cow, a group famous in the late nineties for tossing CDs with instructions on how to hack Microsoft Windows to the crowd at cyber conferences like DefCon. A password-cracking program he wrote before he turned 30 is still in use today.
Later, Mudge turned his power to good, becoming a “white hat” hacker who used his expertise to help companies protect themselves against wunderkinds like him. His talents should have been tailor-made for Twitter, which hired him in 2020 after some punk not unlike his younger self, hacked the Twitter accounts of Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and Kanye West.
Zatko told The Washington Post that he took the top security job at Twitter specifically because of its role in shaping public discourse. “All news seems to be either from Twitter or goes to Twitter for the coloring and context and, as such, it not only paints public opinion, it can change governments,” he said. He revealed he felt duty bound to use his role to “improve the health&#8221; of our national conversation.
“There was no way I wasn’t going to step up to the plate and take some swings,” he said.
Twitter has tried to paint Zatko as a disgruntled former employee, saying in a statement that he was fired for poor performance and that his claims are “false, exaggerated or out of date.”
But former colleagues stand by Mudge. &#8220;He&#8217;s not doing this for fun. It doesn&#8217;t get him anything,&#8221; former NSA computer scientist Dave Aitel, told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/08/24/tech/peiter-zatko-twitter-whistleblower-profile/index.html">CNN</a>. &#8220;That&#8217;s actually what integrity looks like when you have to see it up close.&#8221;

The legal team representing Musk — who desired to purchase Twitter for the purpose of increasing its commitment to free speech — has argued that the company repeatedly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musk-floats-potential-competitor-to-twitter">failed</a> to provide accurate information about its user base, precluding the possibility of a complete deal.
“Mr. Musk and his financial advisors at Morgan Stanley have been requesting critical information from Twitter as far back as May 9, 2022 — and repeatedly since then — on the relationship between Twitter’s disclosed mDAU figures and the prevalence of false or spam accounts on the platform,” the attorneys wrote last month. “Notwithstanding these repeated requests over the past two months, Twitter has still failed to provide much of the data and information responsive to Mr. Musk’s repeated requests.”

According to El Salvador’s government, the use of the cryptocurrency could fuel “financial inclusion,” noting that &#8220;70% of its population doesn&#8217;t have access to traditional financial services.” Last month, El Salvador <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/09/el-salvador-buys-500-bitcoin-as-crypto-market-sell-off-continues.html">bought</a> $15.5 million in Bitcoin at nearly $31,000 — meaning that the nation lost more than one-third of its investment amid the most recent selloff.

“They’re saying you’re going to have financial freedom, but that also means you’re getting access to cryptocurrency’s volatility and complexity,” Brookings Metro fellow Tonantzin Carmona <a href="https://techcrunch.com/2022/06/09/jay-z-jack-dorsey-bitcoin-academy-marcy-public-housing/">told</a> TechCrunch. “You’re getting access to a space that is rife with scams, fraud, hacks and all sorts of things, because there aren’t consumer protections in place as the technology currently stands.”
Earlier this week, cryptocurrency exchange platform Coinbase <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/crypto-winter-coinbase-to-lay-off-nearly-one-fifth-of-staff">revealed</a> concerns about a looming recession and “crypto winter,” announcing that the company would therefore lay off nearly one-fifth of its staff.

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is leaving Twitter&#8217;s Board of Directors, effective today, which comes as the company prepares for possible new leadership in the coming months with its pending sale to Elon Musk.

Former Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey has dismissed claims that he would lead the social media platform in the future following its acquisition by Elon Musk last month.
Dorsey responded to a someone on Twitter who predicted that Musk would &#8220;eventually ask&#8221; Dorsey to once again be the company&#8217;s CEO.
&#8220;Nah I&#8217;ll never be CEO again,&#8221; Dorsey responded.
Dorsey said that ideally &#8220;no one&#8221; should be the company&#8217;s CEO and, when asked if he would like to run the company again, he responded, &#8220;Nah. It&#8217;s time to roll the dice again.&#8221;
The tweets from Dorsey come after Twitter’s board of directors unanimously approved an acquisition by Musk last month in a $44 billion sale valued at $54.20 per share.
Dorsey said in a statement late last month that his &#8220;biggest failing&#8221; while serving as the company&#8217;s CEO was the &#8220;quickness part&#8221; when it came to &#8220;how the service works and acts, and how quickly it learns and improves.&#8221;
Dorsey&#8217;s tweets came roughly at the same time Wednesday that news broke regarding the Securities and Exchange Commission launching an investigation of Musk&#8217;s late disclosure filing of &#8220;a public form that investors must file when they buy more than 5% of a company’s shares,” The Wall Street Journal <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/elon-musks-belated-disclosure-of-twitter-stake-triggers-regulators-probes-11652303894?reflink=desktopwebshare_twitter">reported</a>. “The disclosure functions as an early sign to shareholders and companies that a significant investor could seek to control or influence a company.”
The report said that Musk’s April 4 disclosure filing was at least 10 days late, a move that is believed to have saved him more than $140 million because share prices could have been higher if the public knew about his ownership of 5% of the company.
“The case is easy. It’s straightforward,” Daniel Taylor, a University of Pennsylvania accounting professor, said. “But whether they’re going to pick that battle with Elon is another question.”
The report noted that a lawsuit against Musk from the SEC would likely not stop him from taking over Twitter since the company’s board of director’s unanimously approved the acquisition by Musk and the SEC may lack the power to do so. Musk’s purchase of Twitter is also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elon-musks-twitter-buyout-to-face-ftc-antitrust-review-report">reportedly</a> being reviewed by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Musk also made news this week when he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/breaking-elon-musk-to-reverse-twitters-ban-on-trump">said</a> that he will reverse Twitter’s permanent ban on former President Donald Trump if and when the sale is finalized.
“I think that was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the county, and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice,” Musk said, adding that the decision was “morally bad.”
“That doesn’t mean that someone gets to say whatever they want to say,” Musk said. “If they say something that is illegal or destructive to the world, then there should be perhaps a timeout, temporary suspension or that particular tweet should be made invisible or have very little traction.”
“I would reverse the permanent ban,” Musk added.
