<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Meta CEO <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mark-zuckerberg" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mark Zuckerberg</a> announced Tuesday that his company was implementing major changes to its censorship and fact-checking policies across all platforms, including Facebook and Instagram. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In a video posted on Facebook, Zuckerberg said that Meta would no longer work with independent fact-checkers, end restrictions on topics like gender and immigration, and scale back filters that censored people for innocuous posts. Zuckerberg said that Meta would focus on ensuring free expression, saying that the recent election seemed like a “cultural tipping point.&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;We’re going to get back to our roots and focus on reducing mistakes, simplifying our policies and restoring free expression on our platforms,&#8221; Zuckerberg said. &#8220;We’re going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with Community Notes similar to X, starting in the U.S.&#8221; </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He added that fact-checkers had become politically biased and untrustworthy. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“After Trump first got elected in 2016, the legacy media wrote nonstop about how misinformation was a threat to democracy,” he said. “We tried in good faith to address those concerns without becoming the arbiters of truth. But the fact checkers have just been too politically biased and have destroyed more trust than they created, especially in the U.S.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zuckerberg said restrictions on discussions on topics like immigration and gender were “out of touch with mainstream discourse.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“What started as a movement to be more inclusive has increasingly been used to shut down opinions and shut out people with different ideas,” he said. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zuckerberg said that Meta would dial back its content filters to focus on illegal content and severe violations. He said this was a “trade off” that would lead to objectionable content being caught less often, but fewer people would be censored. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He said Meta’s Trust and Safe and Content moderation teams would move from California to Texas. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zuckerberg said Meta would allow more political content to be shared and spread across its platforms after implementing policies that filtered political content from social media feeds. He</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> noted that the Biden administration pushed Meta to censor content. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“By going after us and other American companies, it has emboldened other governments to go even further,” he said. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zuckerberg said Meta would work with the incoming Trump administration to repel censorship abroad. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We’re going to work with President Trump to push back on governments around the world that are going after American companies and pushing to censor more,” he said. “The U.S. has the strongest constitutional protections for free expression in the world.”</span></p>
<p>Shortly after the presidential election, Trump met with Zuckerberg at Mar-a-Lago. Stephen Miller, Trump’s incoming deputy chief of staff for policy, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-zuckerberg-have-dinner-together-at-mar-a-lago" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> after the meeting that Zuckerberg “has been very clear about his desire to be a supporter of, and a participant in, this change we’re seeing all around America and the world, with this reform movement that Donald Trump is leading.”</p>
<p>Trump campaign advisor Alex B<span class="css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3">ruesewitz <a href="https://x.com/alexbruesewitz/status/1876612074379325458" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Tuesday that he met with Joe Kaplan, head of public policy at Meta, on Monday to discuss the changes.</span></p>
<p>&#8220;We covered these topics as well as the need to reinstate MAGA supporters who were previously wrongly removed from their platforms under questionable circumstances,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I am hopeful that the measures will be implemented to reinstate these accounts.&#8221;</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Internet sensation </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/internet-sensation-peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-new-york-state-government"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Peanut</span></a> the<span style="font-weight: 400;"> squirrel was reportedly marked for euthanasia along with his pal Fred the Raccoon more than a week before he was seized in a raid at his home by New York officials to be “tested for rabies.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss told the </span><a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/12/us-news/pnut-the-squirrel-was-marked-for-death-and-decapitation-from-the-start-as-rabies-test-comes-back-negative-in-tragic-twist/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=nypost&amp;utm_source=twitter"><span style="font-weight: 400;">New York Post</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> on Tuesday that the rabies test for both animals came back “negative” after they were seized from their guardian Mark Longo’s home in upstate New York on October 30 by officials with the the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and then euthanized.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">DEC officials initially said they had received numerous calls about the animals living in the house. The department then got a warrant to search the home for the animals in what Longo described as a drug dealer-type raid at his home, as previously </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/internet-sensation-peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-new-york-state-government"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reported</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At the time, the Associated Press </span><a href="https://apnews.com/article/peanut-pet-squirrel-seized-euthanized-45a4cba19e1c49cb0cd58fef0f140f0d"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reported</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that the DEC took both animals from the Longos’ home. The agency reportedly said it received complaints that wildlife was potentially at risk and being kept illegally. The Longos told </span><a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/11/01/peanut-the-squirrel-seized-killed-new-york-owner-rips-state/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">TMZ</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that they have had Peanut for seven years, after rescuing the squirrel when its mother was killed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The DEC also said in a statement that Peanut bit an investigator on the hand while the squirrel was being confiscated, sparking the need to test for rabies and “both animals were euthanized…” according to </span><a href="https://www.mytwintiers.com/chemung-county/peanut-the-squirrel-euthanized-by-dec-to-test-for-rabies/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">WETM</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">In order to test for rabies, decapitation is required so subjects’ heads can be opened and their brains sampled.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, the Post reported that as far back as a week earlier, a timeline for euthanasia doesn’t match up and the animals were advised to be euthanized by state officials before the raid.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“DEC is aware of an individual in Chemung County who is known to illegally possess an adult gray squirrel and at least 4 young raccoons. They may also be in possession of other illegal wildlife species,” the DEC said in a message to the county on October 22. “We would like to know if the Health Department would recommend these animals be tested for rabies as a precaution for human safety.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The State Department of Health letter to the county on October 23 then read,  “Wildlife cannot be confined like domestic animals, and if there was an exposure, the animals would need to be tested for rabies,” </span><a href="https://www.wbng.com/video/2024/11/12/chemung-county-health-department-clarifies-role-peanut-squirrel-euthanization-2/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">WBNG</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> reported.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Days later, officials took steps for their raid &#8212; but the Post noted that the DEC was already coordinating the animals’ euthanasia with Elmira Animal Control.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The guardian of Peanut and Fred told the outlet he was in “utter shock” after seeing the timeline. “I’d like to give you a proper statement, but for now I’ll just say ‘Wow,'&#8221; he added.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On October 30, DEC raided Longo’s home and took the animals, which were both killed that day.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Animal decap requested on: 10/30/24,” read a rabies report for Peanut and Fred, also released by Chemung County, who said an investigation into the matter was ongoing.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The first video is dated April 17, 2017, when the squirrel was rescued by Longo after he saw the squirrel’s mom hit by a car, the </span><a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/01/us-news/peanut-the-squirrel-beloved-pet-and-internet-sensation-put-to-death-by-new-york-state/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">New York Post </span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">noted.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">From there, the videos show the little guy becoming instantly close with his guardian as the two enjoy going on walks together, playing games, and even getting kisses and love from Longo.</span></p>

<p>Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer was blasted on social media on Thursday after appearing in a video that showed her feeding a chip to a woman on her knees.</p>
<p>The woman in the <a href="https://www.instagram.com/reel/DA8lS2sP-Rv/?igsh=cWVhN2dvaW5vaWxt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> is feminist author Liz Plank, who has worked at NBC News and Vox Media. In the 8-second clip, Whitmer, while wearing a Harris/Walz cap, feeds a Doritos chip to Plank, who is sitting on her knees in front of the Michigan governor. Plank captioned the video, &#8220;if he won&#8217;t, big gretch will.&#8221;</p>
<p>Whitmer <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/4844547-big-gretch-nickname-michigan-whitmer/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Democrats at the party&#8217;s convention in Chicago in August that &#8220;in Lansing, they call me governor, but in Detroit, I&#8217;m Big Gretch!&#8221;</p>

<p>Vice President Kamala Harris&#8217; campaign flooded Meta platforms Facebook and Instagram with ads during the week of her debate against former President Donald Trump, outspending the Trump campaign 20 to 1 on the social media sites.</p>
<p>The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/20/us/politics/kamala-harris-trump-campaign-spending.html?campaign_id=9&amp;emc=edit_nn_20240920&amp;instance_id=134806&amp;nl=the-morning" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> on Friday that the Harris campaign spent $12.2 million on Facebook and Instagram in the week surrounding the debate, while the Trump campaign spent $611,228, according to Meta&#8217;s records. The Democratic nominee&#8217;s big social media advertising spend focused on battleground states, especially Michigan and Pennsylvania, where the Harris campaign spent $1.5 million and $1.3 million, respectively, on Meta&#8217;s social media platforms.</p>
<p>The Trump campaign, meanwhile, only spent $34,790 in Michigan and $22,465 in Pennsylvania on Facebook and Instagram over the same period, the Times reported.</p>
<p>Trump campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump&#8217;s team doesn&#8217;t need to spend as much as the Harris campaign on social media advertising because &#8220;millions of people want to organically watch and engage with President Trump — you can’t put a dollar value on that.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;The Harris campaign must spend an enormous amount on digital advertising, and we don’t because our campaign’s greatest asset is President Donald J. Trump,&#8221; Leavitt added.</p>
<p>Playing into Harris&#8217; spending on social media is her campaign&#8217;s large fundraising advantage over Team Trump. The Harris campaign has <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/2024-presidential-race/kamala-harris/candidate?id=N00036915" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> bringing in nearly $500 million for the 2024 election, while the Trump campaign has <a href="https://www.opensecrets.org/2024-presidential-race/donald-trump/candidate?id=N00023864" target="_blank" rel="noopener">brought</a> in $265 million. Democrats immediately saw a boost in fundraising after President Joe Biden stepped out of the race as many Democratic donors expressed concerns about Biden continuing his 2024 campaign. Harris also benefitted from transferring the Biden campaign&#8217;s cash on hand into her campaign&#8217;s war chest after the president dropped out in July.</p>

Musk endorsed Trump for president shortly after the July 13 assassination attempt on the Republican nominee. The Trump campaign has spent $100,000 on X since Harris became the Democrats&#8217; de-facto nominee.</p>
<p>Despite the Harris campaign spending big bucks on Facebook and Instagram last week, polls <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-debate-had-no-major-effect-on-battleground-state-polling?topStoryPosition=2" target="_blank" rel="noopener">show</a> that neither candidate saw a significant spike after the September 10 debate on ABC. Harris and Trump remain neck-and-neck in battleground states, according to polling averages from RealClearPolitics and FiveThirtyEight.</p>
<p>While Harris&#8217; campaign focuses on spending money on digital advertising, the Republican nominee is sitting down for numerous interviews and continuing his rigorous campaign schedule. <p>Social media giant <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/meta" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Meta</a> announced on Tuesday that its platform Instagram will be instituting new privacy settings that are &#8220;built-in&#8221; for teenagers&#8217; accounts.</p>
<p>After facing criticism for an apparent lack of safety surrounding minors&#8217; Instagram accounts, Meta <a href="https://about.fb.com/news/2024/09/instagram-teen-accounts/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the new &#8220;Teen Accounts&#8221; will protect young social media users while putting the parents in control. Teen Accounts will &#8220;limit who can contact them and the content they see&#8221; by keeping minors&#8217; accounts private, meaning other Instagram users cannot see posts from or contact a Teen Account unless the teenager accepts their follow requests.</p>
<p>&#8220;We know parents want to feel confident that their teens can use social media to connect with their friends and explore their interests, without having to worry about unsafe or inappropriate experiences. We understand parents’ concerns, and that’s why we’re reimagining our apps for teens with new Teen Accounts,&#8221; Meta said in a statement. &#8220;This new experience is designed to better support parents, and give them peace of mind that their teens are safe with the right protections in place.&#8221;</p>
<p>Earlier this year, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg — along with the leaders of TikTok and X — testified before Congress on how his social media empire was addressing concerns from users and parents about privacy and the effects of social media on children. In one <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-sorry-for-everything-mark-zuckerberg-faces-families-harmed-by-social-media" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tense exchange</a> during the hearing, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) asked if Zuckerberg wanted to apologize to the families of children who were victimized by people on social media.</p>
<p>&#8220;I’m sorry for everything you have all been through. No one should go through the things that your families have suffered,” he told some of the families who were in attendance.</p>
<p>Under Instagram&#8217;s new Teen Accounts, teens will be shielded from any messages from people they are not &#8220;already connected to,&#8221; according to Meta. Additionally, Teen Accounts will be limited in the type of content they see on Instagram as the app&#8217;s &#8220;sensitive content control&#8221; will further limit content that shows &#8220;people fighting&#8221; or content that &#8220;promotes cosmetic procedures.&#8221;</p>

<p>Meta added that it will &#8220;automatically turn on the most restrictive version of our anti-bullying feature, Hidden Words, so that offensive words and phrases will be filtered out of teens’ comments and DM requests.&#8221; Teen users under 16 years old will now have to add a parent or guardian to their account if they want to change any of the built-in privacy settings.</p>
<p>Teen Accounts will include time limit reminders, telling young users to close out of the app after 60 minutes each day, and all notifications will be muted between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m.</p>
<p>Meta said it will enforce this new change by requiring teens to &#8220;verify their age in more places.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;Teens may lie about their age and that’s why we’re requiring them to verify their age in more places, like if they attempt to use a new account with an adult birthday. We’re also building technology to proactively find accounts belonging to teens, even if the account lists an adult birthday,&#8221; Meta said. &#8220;This technology will allow us to proactively find these teens and place them in the same protections offered by Teen Account settings. We’ll start testing this change in the US early next year.&#8221;</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Last summer, the recording artist was hospitalized after falling at his villa in Nice, France, as The Daily Wire previously </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/elton-john-76-went-to-hospital-following-fall-at-home-rep-confirms"><span style="font-weight: 400;">reported</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">. He was spending time there after concluding his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’ve had the most wonderful career, beyond belief. Fifty-two years of pure joy playing music. How lucky am I to play music?” the singer said at the conclusion of his last show in Stockholm, Sweden, in July 2023. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“But, ya know, I wouldn’t be sitting here and talking to you if it wasn’t for you. You bought the singles, the albums, the CDs, the cassettes, but more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows, and you know how I love to play live.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">John played “Your Song” and “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” at the end of his final show. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">He told Entertainment Weekly he was still “trying to process” that he was no longer touring after more than five decades. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I don’t think it will sink in for a while yet that I’ve finally finished touring,” John said at the time. “I can’t tell you how much I’m going to miss the fans and how much their support has humbled me — it will stay with me forever.”</span></p>

Lizzo shared three other posts to Instagram over the weekend, telling followers she was in Bali. “Unfortunately I’ll be posting way too many bikini pics,” she wrote in another update. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Shortly after, she confirmed that she wasn’t quitting music forever, but was rather leaving behind “negative energy.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I just need to clarify — when I say I quit, I mean, I quit giving any negative energy attention,” she said. “What I’m not gonna quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people. I know I’m not alone. In no way, shape or form am I the only person who is experiencing that negative voice that seems to be louder than the positive … I’m going to keep moving forward, I’m going to keep being me.”</span></p>
