During a speech to the World Economic Forum on Thursday, President Donald Trump said his administration was ushering in a “revolution of common sense.”
Trump, who appeared virtually, slammed the Biden administration during his speech and listed off a number of the executive orders he has made on energy, spending, and the economy. During his appearance, Trump urged Saudi Arabia to lower the price of oil and promised businesses that make their products in the U.S. would benefit from low taxes. 
“What the world has witnessed in the past 72 hours is nothing less than a revolution of common sense,” Trump said. “Our country will soon be stronger, wealthier, and more united than ever before and the entire planet will be more peaceful and prosperous as a result of this incredible momentum.”

During the speech, Trump criticized Biden’s handling of the economy and the border, citing $8 trillion in “wasteful deficit spending,” “crippling regulations,” and record-high inflation during the Biden administration. 
“My administration is acting with unprecedented speed to fix the disasters we’ve inherited from a totally inept group of people, and to solve every single crisis facing our country. This begins with confronting the economic chaos caused by the failed policies of the last administration,” he said. 
“President Biden totally lost control of what was going on in our country, but, in particular, with our high inflation economy and at our border,” Trump added.

This action included enacting a federal hiring freeze, a freeze on regulation, a pause on foreign aid, creating the Department of Government Efficiency, withdrawing from the Paris Climate Accords, ending Biden’s electric vehicle mandate, and declaring a national energy emergency. 
Trump also promised that countries that make their products in America would benefit from low corporate taxes. 
“My message to every business in the world is very simple: come make your product in America and we will give you among the lowest taxes of any nation on earth,” Trump said. “But if you don&#8217;t make your product in America, which is your prerogative, then very simply, you will have to pay a tariff.”

Joe Biden has left the building, but Bidenflation has not completely abated. A lot of us are still feeling the inflationary pain at the grocery store. Eggs, for example, went up a whopping 37%. To be fair, this was mostly due to negative supply shocks driving up the actual cost of producing eggs.
That sticker shock was recently compounded by a new “cage-free” law that <a href="https://www.freep.com/story/news/local/michigan/2024/12/18/michigan-cage-free-eggs-new-law-impact-prices/76966711007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">officially went into effect</a> here in Michigan on January 1, 2025. Farms with more than 3,000 egg layers can no longer confine their chickens in cages, but must give them room to “<a href="https://www.michigan.gov/mdard/food-dairy/foodlaw/cage-free-egg-law" target="_blank" rel="noopener">roam unrestricted in indoor environments</a>.” 
The large egg producers that supply grocery stores have had to take a giant step backwards and rebuild their egg operations at a significantly higher cost structure. On top of that, according to the USDA, bird flu recently killed off over <a href="https://www.unmc.edu/healthsecurity/transmission/2025/01/14/u-s-egg-industry-sees-record-chicken-deaths-from-bird-flu-outbreak/#:~:text=More%20than%2020%20million%20egg,supply%20since%20the%20outbreak%20began." target="_blank" rel="noopener">20 million hens</a>. The combination of bird flu and cage-free mandates have pushed egg prices to all-time highs.
I’m not here to complain about egg prices, though. Bird flu outbreaks are terrible bad luck, but chicken flocks will recover. Farmers will adapt to the cage-free mandates and the price of eggs will subside.
The egg crisis, however, did reveal a grotesque contradiction in our public policy: In Michigan, chickens now have more legal protections than some humans. I’m talking about unborn babies, who can be killed through all nine months of pregnancy in this state, and in a quite inhumane manner, might I add. This is thanks to some of the most radically pro-abortion policies in the country, enacted in recent years under Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s leadership. Michigan voters ensconced a right to “reproductive freedom” into our state constitution in the 2022 election, which led to the repeal of nearly all abortion restrictions by the state legislature during 2023. According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, Michigan now ranks as <a href="https://states.guttmacher.org/policies/michigan/abortion-policies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“very protective” of so-called abortion rights.</a>
Ironically, just after signing the bills that repealed abortion restrictions, Governor Whitmer established the <a href="https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/news/press-releases/2023/06/01/whitmer-establishes-the-growing-michigan-together-council-to-focus-on-population-growth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">“Growing Michigan Together Council”</a> to “develop a statewide strategy aimed at making Michigan a place everyone wants to call home by attracting and retaining talent, improving education throughout the state, upgrading and modernizing our transportation and water infrastructure to meet 21st century needs, and continuing Michigan’s economic momentum.” Michigan, you see, ranks 49th in population growth, and even leftists realize that’s not good for the economy. So the state formed a commission to come up with comprehensive solutions to get Michigan growing again.
I’ve got one: Let’s stop killing babies.
Whitmer and her ilk are right that our near-zero rate of population growth is a major problem with massive social, economic, and political consequences. Conservatives have been tracking <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2019/03/27/what-will-be-the-consequences-of-our-plummeting-birth-rate/">declining trends in fertility</a> and <a href="https://thefederalist.com/2019/03/13/dear-david-frum-u-s-population-growth-not-problem-solution/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">population growth</a> for years, sounding the alarm about the potential for demographic collapse. Awareness of population decline and its frightening ramifications is finally going mainstream, perhaps thanks to Elon Musk proclaiming that population decline is a much bigger existential problem than climate change. He’s right, of course, and serious people are catching on. Outlets such as the <a href="https://www.wsj.com/us-news/u-s-deaths-expected-to-outpace-births-within-the-decade-9c949de8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street Journal</a>, <a href="https://www.economist.com/leaders/2023/06/01/global-fertility-has-collapsed-with-profound-economic-consequences?utm_content=section_content&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gclid=CjwKCAiAnKi8BhB0EiwA58DA4ct5fzkrQ9sKipRa-wCbLWsfKj-iv6AMak4OoGEIlDl9qyJmXdQC8RoC8DkQAvD_BwE&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Economist</a>, and <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/19/politics/china-population-us-what-matters/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">even CNN</a> are getting wise to the bitter implications of declining birth rates and population collapse.
When people have fewer babies, <a href="https://www.imf.org/en/Publications/fandd/issues/2024/09/picture-this-demographic-decline-andrew-stanley#:~:text=Lower%20birth%20rates%20result%20in,putting%20pressure%20on%20public%20finances." target="_blank" rel="noopener">everyone is worse off</a>. Economically, we get a smaller workforce that produces less output, generates less innovation, and results in lower incomes and fewer opportunities. Politically, we get a shrinking tax base that makes it harder for the government to fund and provide public goods like infrastructure, police, and defense. The population pyramid becomes inverted—more old people than young people. Each working-age person is now financially responsible for a larger number of retirees’ government-funded pensions and healthcare, putting even bigger strains on the welfare state. At a personal level, <a href="https://cosm.aei.org/who-is-happiest-married-mothers-and-fathers-per-the-latest-general-social-survey/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">childless (and typically unmarried) people find themselves increasingly alone and unhappy.</a> The disease has advanced so far that we now have a generation of <a href="https://www.wsj.com/lifestyle/relationships/americans-are-having-fewer-babiesso-fewer-people-get-to-be-grandparents-a99b6001?mod=Searchresults_pos17&amp;page=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">older folks lamenting that they’ll never see grandchildren</a>.
Several countries are entering a “demographic winter,” with more deaths than births and rapidly falling headcounts. Japan, <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/japan-news-population-crisis-3-numbers-1954889" target="_blank" rel="noopener">whose population has been in freefall since 2009</a>, offers a sad and tragic cautionary tale on population decline. <a href="https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2018/04/30/japans-rent-a-family-industry" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Old people rent stand-in grandkids</a>. In lieu of big supportive families, <a href="https://japantoday.com/category/tech/the-rise-of-companion-robots-in-japan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lonely elders rely on emotional support robots.</a> Young people, men, in particular, are <a href="https://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/oct/20/young-people-japan-stopped-having-sex" target="_blank" rel="noopener">losing interest in sex</a>. The trend ends in civilizational annihilation.
So how do we prevent Michigan, and the United States, from going down the demographic drain? Birth rates in America have been below the replacement rate of 2.1 children per woman since around 2008. We’ve been able to make up for declining births with massive immigration, which has kept population growth positive. You may have noticed, though, that large-scale immigration—most of it of the illegal variety — is falling out of favor. With a new administration actually enforcing immigration laws, it’s unlikely that foreigners will continue to make up for our birth dearth.
Policy wonks have all sorts of ideas for incentivizing people to have more kids. Many GOP legislators favor boosting child tax credits. Leftists who acknowledge the problem usually want more government-funded daycare or more generous parental leave. The nonpartisan Growing Michigan Together Council thinks the answer is a better statewide education system and more accessible public transit.
Any of these things might have some benefit at the margin, but interestingly (and sadly) I noticed in the Growing Michigan report exactly zero references to the direct solution: more babies. And there’s a really straightforward policy solution to a huge aspect of that problem, which is to just stop killing them. According to state data, from 1982 to 2023, <a href="https://www.mdch.state.mi.us/osr/abortion/Tab_A.asp" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan lost 1.3 million children to abortion</a>. This is surely an undercount since it does not track babies terminated at home via the abortion pill. For the country as a whole, <a href="https://www.nrlc.org/uploads/factsheets/FS01AbortionintheUS.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">we’ve lost 63.5 million people to the abortion holocaust</a> since legalization in 1973. 
Numerically speaking, abortion is the primary problem when it comes to demographic decline, and it is entirely symptomatic of the root cause of all our problems: We are sacrificing the next generation on the altar of personal freedom, convenience, and hedonism. Too many people view marriage as a spirit-crushing trap and babies — even live ones kicking the womb — as a call option: If you’re not “in the money” with financial success or self-confidence, you can simply let it expire, and toss out that tiny helpless human like last week’s leftovers.

No policy tweaks or monetary incentives will change people’s deeply held values about babies, families, marriage, and the meaning of life. Well-meaning members of the Growing Michigan Together Council are completely deaf, dumb, and mute regarding the actual problem here: we are killing babies, and we need to stop. The real problem is spiritual. It’s good vs. evil. It’s in our hearts. Now that killing babies is grotesquely enshrined as a “right” in many states, it’s going to take a huge shift in cultural values to turn the tide. Recommendations for “improving education” here or “increasing incentives” there just aren’t going to cut it — they are putting band-aids on a tumor.
America needs people. It’s good, right, and proper (and fun) for young men and women to get together, form families, and have kids. We need to return to a basic set of shared cultural values that recognizes and promotes the old normal: get married, have kids, and enjoy the good old family life. Ending abortion would be a huge step towards that shift in values, but it will most likely come as a result, not a cause. While we should keep fighting hard for the unborn and keep seeking legislative wins to protect tiny vulnerable humans, we should also realize that winning hearts and minds will take decades of commitment, personal leadership, and sacrifice. Animal rights activists fought long and hard to enact cage-free laws for the “humane” treatment of chickens — surely we who cherish human life can work even harder to build a culture that protects and values the lives of children, whatever their stage of development.
In the meantime, let us lead by example whenever possible. Get married, stay married, and have kids. Go to church, and pray: for your family, your kids, your friends’ kids, etc. Help the people around you as much as you can, especially with unplanned pregnancies and relationship strife. In the end, a large family and a long marriage are worth far more than any level of career or financial success. With God’s help, we can rebuild a culture of life and family that puts mothers, fathers, and babies at the center of everything. It’s the right thing to do, and it will even be good for the economy.

If you aren’t on X — or Twitter, if you insist on deadnaming it — you will often be surprised to learn about the kinds of things people are arguing about on that platform. In many cases, the debates do not resemble anything that anyone outside of the site is talking about. These debates are often insular and parochial. Groups of people will get into heated disputes that last sometimes for weeks or months or longer, and yet which have no relevance beyond the confines of the platform itself.
I’ll give just one example of millions. Among Right-wingers on X, there has been a long running and quite tedious quarrel over the term “Woke Right.” Various groups of conservatives are accusing each other of being “Woke Right,” as they debate what the term means, and whether it describes anything real. I don’t know where this “Woke Right” idea comes from, but I do know that I’ve never heard a single soul in the three dimensional, physical world ever use the phrase or express any opinion on it one way or another. There are relatively prominent conservatives on X who have spent months locked in combat over a concept that has no real political or cultural relevance whatsoever. Nobody cares about it but them. Needless to say, there are a great many examples of this sort of thing. And even less do I need to say that I have myself been guilty of arguing about things on X that nobody outside of the app cares about. I might even sometimes be the one starting the argument, admittedly.
However, not every debate on X is so trivial. Sometimes the conversation is relevant beyond social media. Sometimes it reflects what’s actually happening in the world. Sometimes — more often now in the Elon era — a debate on X is actually important. And this week there has been one of those kinds of arguments — another round of it, anyway, as this has been a long running dispute. It’s important enough to write about here. And it will lead me to a very crucial point that I want to make, especially for younger people.
The debate revolves around the economic situation that young people in particular are facing today. One side of the argument says that although it is a challenging landscape for young people who are just starting out in the world, the best thing they can do is get an entry level job somewhere and work their way up in the world from that starting point. The other side says that this “bootstraps” mentality is obsolete. Young people have been totally screwed. They can’t just get a job and work their way up. And, they say, telling a young person to go work some low paying customer service job is insulting and out of touch. The game is rigged. American jobs are being stolen en masse by foreigners. The American dream, says this side of the debate, is effectively dead. Therefore the old school “go out there and work your way up the ladder” approach is simply to antiquated to be useful.

As you already guessed, out of the two camps, I tend to fall more into the former. Although the latter camp isn’t wrong about many of the fundamental points they’re making about the system as it&#8217;s currently constructed. I’ll get into that in a moment. 
First, let’s take a look at how this exchange is playing out. I think the debate may be best encapsulated by this. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/christopher-rufo">Chris Rufo</a>, in a series of tweets a couple of days ago, <a href="https://x.com/realchrisrufo/status/1878855931318198421" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote the following</a>:
<blockquote>Every generation has challenges. We currently have huge problems with the cost of housing and a splintering culture, but the economy is strong, incomes have never been higher, trades are hiring apprentices straight out of high school, and tech has enabled a wave of entrepreneurship and high-income &#8220;email jobs&#8221; from anywhere on Earth. We should remember that the Boomers, whatever their faults, had to make their way in a much poorer America and had to navigate war, stagflation, recession, and high interest rates. It&#8217;s never a cakewalk. We should work to provide opportunity for our kids, but should also remind them to be grateful for the opportunities they have. I didn&#8217;t make $50,000 a year or own a car until I was 30, then, after years of struggle in a creative field, things paid off. I could live in Seattle or New York or DC, but choose to live in a small town. It&#8217;s all a tradeoff, and one can make a good life in almost any metro area in the US.</blockquote>
In a follow up, he posted a job listing from Panda Express:
<blockquote>This is basically &#8220;full employment.&#8221; The Panda Express near my house is offering $70k/yr plus benefits for the assistant manager. You can make $100k/yr working at Chipotle for a few years and working up to store manager.</blockquote>
A prominent account that goes by the handle &#8220;Bronze Age Pervert&#8221; responded in a way that I think captures the general attitude of the other side of this argument. 
He wrote:
<blockquote>This is an absurd thing to post. This environment is the worst in decades and maybe ever in America to build wealth through any normal career. It’s the worst work environment and worst prospects for wealth accumulation ever. For a young person it’s next to impossible in fact even with the best degrees and “elite” job. It’s absurd and a joke to see conservative pundits, who work as writers and commentators in media and aren’t frankly exemplars of Protestant capitalist enterprise recommend working at Chipotle and UPS for a few smart young right wing men who are deploring decades-long trends. Maybe you’ll care to also give them advice on manning up and marrying a local sweet girl/highschool sweetheart.</blockquote>
The debate spiraled from there. A writer named Aaron McIntyre agrees with Bronze Age Pervert. He posted: 
<blockquote>If you are worried about Andrew Tate&#8217;s influence on young men telling them to climb the fast food ladder probably isn&#8217;t the move.</blockquote>
Another commentator named Scott Greer chimes in with a similar sentiment: 
<blockquote>Conservatives wonder why young men turn to Andrew Tate when they tell the same demographic to be content with fast food work and marrying much-older single moms.</blockquote>
Someone else gave his perspective. He said that it is possible for a young person to get started and succeed even in this tough environment. He offered the example of his own 22-year-old son, who he said has a job at UPS making $70,000 a year. He’s about to marry his girlfriend who is ten years older.
To that, someone else, in a post that has 27,000 likes, said: 
<blockquote>Poor kid is grinding, about to marry a 32 year old, living in his dad’s basement, stuck in a dead end job. He will likely never have kids or own a home. Imagine how out of touch you have to be to post this proudly. This is losing. But boomer dad imagines everything is ok.</blockquote>
Mike Cernovich is on the other side. What we might call the bootstraps camp. He thinks — and so do I — that work is not supposed to be fun. It’s not even necessarily going to be fulfilling. But you have to do it because that’s life and always has been. He wrote: 
<blockquote>You’re supposed to hate your job. That’s why it’s a job. Someone pays you because they don’t want to do it. Most of us had s*** jobs. It’s nothing special. You’re not a snowflake. Fight Club and Office Space covered this decades ago. Work sucks. This isn’t new.</blockquote>
But it’s this reply to that post that I think best captures the essence — and the fatal flaw — in the, I guess, anti-bootstraps position. Someone responded: 
<blockquote>The reason why jobs were worth it is that you could afford a home in a nice high trust society and support a family. Why do it now? I will not be reduced to an f-ing serf.</blockquote>
Jobs are not worth it, he says. Jobs make you a serf. This is why it’s worth talking about this very online controversy. It’s not just online. It seems clear to me that a lot of demoralized young people feel exactly this way. They think jobs aren’t worth it. There’s no point in even trying. They have it harder than anyone has ever had it. It’s hopeless. Everything is unfair. And so on. 
These young people are being encouraged down this hopeless road by people who are considered intellectuals on the right, like Bronze Age Pervert, who we recall said that today’s work environment is the worst ever — the worst ever, in history — and that it is “next to impossible” to become successful and accumulate wealth. They’re told by these supposed thought leaders that they should ignore anyone who even suggests that they start off in a low paying job working customer service or something similar. And a lot of young people — especially young men — have heeded this advice, to their own detriment.
So here’s what I want to say, after this very long preamble where I unfortunately had to give you a blow by blow account of a Twitter war. I acknowledge that young people face serious challenges starting out in the workforce. I can clearly see and do not deny that it is harder than it should be for a young man to get into a stable career, buy a house, and start a family. I agree that we are importing foreigners to take American jobs. That is hideously evil and unfair. I am in favor of any policy that puts an end to that scam. I agree with the anti-bootstrappers on that point. They will hear no argument from me.
Okay. Once we’ve agreed on that, what then? What is a young adult supposed to actually do tomorrow? This is the question that matters. It’s the question that, in these kinds of conversations, most people just skip over. It reminds me of my frequent debates with the Red Pillers and Manosphere where they declare that the dating scene is a disaster and young men have no hope of meeting a quality woman and building a stable family. My question to them is always the same: What do you want these young men to do then? What do you want them to actually do with their lives? Give up and die alone? What do you want them to do?
I ask that here as well: What should they do tomorrow? I’m not asking what the president should do or what congress should do or what government agencies should do. I’m asking what the actual individual human beings we’re talking about here — the newly minted young adults — should do. They will wake up in the morning and brush their teeth and eat breakfast — and then what? That young man who is 22-years-old and has no job. If you believe it is deeply insulting to suggest that he should go apply at Panda Express or UPS, what do you want him to do instead? What do you recommend? What is your plan?

Complaining about it incessantly on Twitter is not a plan. Calling for policy solutions is fine and I agree that we should work on those. But what about tomorrow? What is the demoralized young person supposed to actually do in his life tomorrow? Don’t deflect. Don’t tell me about the H1-B program. I think we should abolish it. I don’t want to import any foreign labor at all. But a young man who wakes up in the morning can’t abolish the H1-B program. That’s not something he can accomplish tomorrow. So what should he do? Should he post about abolishing it? Fine. That takes about 60 seconds. Let’s give him 30 minutes for a series of tweets about H1-B visas. Okay. What next? How&#8217;s he spending the rest of his day? If you have no answer to that question, then your contribution to this conversation is worthless. You have nothing of value to offer to this young man.
Here’s what I say. I say that he must get up onto his feet in spite of it all and begin to pursue his goals one small step at a time. He must get the best job he possibly can, which will almost certainly not be a very good job or a very fun job. But he is not in a position where he can afford to worry about what is fun. He has to work as hard as he can to achieve what he can. He must gain experience and establish himself. And if he’s just starting out in the world, the best job is whatever job he can get. You have to start somewhere. And a job is better than no job.
He has a difficult road. Every young man in his position throughout the entire history of the Earth has had a difficult road. Life itself is a difficult road. Is his road more difficult than the road that young men of my generation had to walk? Perhaps. I entered adult life right around the time of a great recession and housing market collapse. It wasn’t exactly an easy path. I worked many awful customer service jobs that I hated with every fiber of my being. My hatred of them fueled me even more. I was more determined to become successful so that I would never again have to work the kind of job where you wear a name tag and get paid by the hour. But I had to work those jobs in order to get to a point where I didn’t have to work those jobs. That’s how it goes. So I am not recommending that anyone do anything that I have not already done. Is it harder now? Maybe. Is it harder than it was for the Boomers when they were just starting out? Probably, although I think the comparison is overstated.
Is it the hardest ever? Is a young person in America today facing “next to impossible odds” and unprecedented hardship? Of course not. That is an absurd suggestion. If you are a 22-year-old man today, you may have it a bit harder than your parents and grandparents, but that is as far as it even theoretically goes. World history did not begin in 1955. No matter what, you and I and our parents all had it and have it easier than the vast majority of human beings who have ever existed on the planet. We are all in the top 1% of the easiest lives ever lived. Which is why, even with all of our problems, you wouldn’t want to live anywhere else on the planet today. And if you had a time machine, the farthest you might want to go back is the middle of the 20th century and no farther. And if you did go back even that far, you would almost certainly discover that it was not the cakewalk you imagine it to be.

None of this diminishes the difficulties that you, as a young person, are currently experiencing. I only mean to put it in context. The context is important. Because if you think that nobody has ever had it harder than you, you may be justified in wondering whether success is simply impossible in your case. After all, no one has ever succeeded against odds so great as what you are facing. But the point is that many millions of people have succeeded against odds many times greater. This should inspire you, not offend you. Either way, my message to the young man is that he has to get up and walk. Even if he did have the hardest life anyone has ever lived on this or any other planet. Still I would say, well then, get up and move forward. What else are you going to do? Lie down and die?
My attitude is condemned by some Right-wingers whose doomerism has now descended to a point where they will call you a traitor for suggesting that a young man has any agency at all in his life. They want to hear nothing but misery porn and hopelessness. Anything else makes you a Boomer cuck. That’s because they don’t actually give the slightest damn about the young people they pretend to be speaking for.
Instead we end up with the “solution” (which I’ve seen repeated in different forms countless times) offered by the commenter I mentioned earlier. Jobs aren’t “worth it,” he says. He will not be a serf. Instead he will, presumably, live off of the government or his parents. But here’s the problem: that’s not how you escape being a serf. That’s how you become one. You are volunteering for a life of failure and servitude. Working at Panda Express is beneath you, but to eat it for lunch on your dad’s dime because you refuse to support yourself is not beneath you?
That makes no sense.
So again I ask: what is your plan? What are you going to do tomorrow? Some people like to mock the “bootstraps” mentality but they have given young people precisely zero alternatives. They have not given them any idea of what they should do tomorrow. And to me that is the most important and useful question here. What should you do tomorrow? My answer is simple. Tomorrow you should get up, put on your shoes, and get started.

History has an interesting way of softening the hard edges of a past president’s term of office. Time, combined with more information coming to light as well as a more complete verdict re: the long-term impacts, good and bad, of policies will do that. As such, the placement along the scale of best to worst of those who sat in the Oval Office is always shifting.
But 39th President James Earl Carter, Jr., who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jimmy-carter-americas-39th-president-dead-at-100?topStoryPosition=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed away</a> at age 100, is a presidency difficult to encapsulate. Peruse the media obituaries and a common theme will no doubt emerge. That he was a man of personal character and decency, the “real deal.” Indeed, his will be hailed as “the ideal former-presidency” given his image of skating above politics and keeping his focus on initiatives more beneficial to mankind, whether it be building a house for the poor or monitoring elections abroad. It will be said of him that he lived out his Christian virtues staying faithful to the same woman for 77 years.
But this does not alter the fact that his term in office from 1977 to 1981 was, to put it bluntly, a failure.
From a foreign policy standpoint, Carter attempted to affect statecraft grounded in the promotion of “human rights”. But what many in this country at the time may have seen as noble ambitions, especially coming in the aftermath of Vietnam, was read by enemies abroad as weakness arising from an almost quaint naiveté. This perceived weakness gained validation when in November 1979 anti-American Islamists overthrew the Shah of Iran and stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran — sovereign U.S. territory as per international law. 52 embassy staff were taken hostage and subsequently held in very public and humiliating captivity for 444 days.

This affront to our national honor was made ever more acute when six months into the crisis, after fruitless diplomatic overtures, a mission to rescue the captive U.S. citizens resulted in a humiliating failure in the Iranian desert. The mission was scrubbed due to equipment breakdowns and eight servicemen were killed when a helicopter collided with a transport plane during the evacuation. Images of the charred bodies of our dead troops were splashed across headlines around the world, and a somber Carter took to the airwaves to accept responsibility.
The botched raid was not just a shameful blow to our national pride, it underscored a deeper sense that U.S. power was eroding, and that our best days were behind us. The military that once defeated the war machines of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan couldn’t even get out of its own way in the desert? Maybe we really were in decline? The hostages would languish for all the world to see — and the anti-U.S. forces from Moscow to Beijing to Tehran to gloat over — for another 270 hapless days.
When in 1980 the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, Carter’s boycotting the Olympic games in Moscow seemed a tepid, and largely symbolic response that only served to punish our own athletes while not changing Russian actions one iota. Whether or not there was more the Carter administration could have done given the Soviets’ nuclear arsenal is a matter for round tables to discuss. At the time, however, this was viewed as yet another anemic response to flagrant enemy aggression; Americans came to believe we had a lamb in the White House when a lion was needed. And as not-so-clandestine support for the Mujahadeen throughout the Reagan era demonstrated, the U.S. did have more capacity to put the thumb on the scales in the region than Carter seemed willing to do.
The thing about Carter, however, is that not only was he unable, or unwilling to recognize certain bad actors on the world stage, he failed to understand who were the true friends to the U.S. as well. One must consider his double-standard leveled against Israel vis-à-vis the Palestinians. In particular the PLO, which by any impartial definition was a terror organization. And its leader, the vile, murderous kleptocrat Yasser Arafat, a bona fide terrorist. It was the Israelis, however, whom Carter targeted for restrictions and even grotesquely drew an analogy between their efforts to combat terrorism and the growling hounds of Bull Connor. Certainly if the recollections of respected columnist William Safire and former Secretary of State Cyrus Vance are to be believed, Carter was rabidly anti-Israel. For the Israelis, it was very fortunate Carter did not win a second term.
But what about the Camp David Accords? Certainly they were a worthy effort and seem to be among the only such accords between ancient enemies that have survived more or less intact. But, as Jay Nordlinger writes in National Review, Sadat and Begin had already hammered them out prior to inviting Carter in to provide the carapace of legitimacy — and financial support — only the U.S. could offer. It is not a stretch to say that no matter who was president, Camp David would have still occurred.

At least the Carter presidency promoted the legitimate democratic process, right? Well, it did in that he even went so far as to praise Yasser Arafat’s election. Indeed, Carter was perhaps the PLO chairman’s biggest fan in the halls of the U.S. government. Although as CIA director Jim Woolsey once joked, “Arafat was essentially ’elected’ the same way Stalin was, but not nearly as democratically as Hitler, who at least had actual opponents.”
And, of course, given Carter’s wish to be remembered as the champion of the downtrodden and oppressed (although it depends on who is wearing the jackboots, as Carter seemed to have a look-the-other-way affinity for Marxist dictators whether in Beijing, Havana, or Managua) then it is natural that he would side with the weaker, if morally depraved, Hamas and Hezbollah. As his Bull Connor comparison shows, he would be quite at home today among the throngs of Intifada wannabes on the college campus who view the Arab-Israeli conflict not through the lens of morality but power. In 2014, Carter wrote of Hamas: “Only by recognizing its legitimacy as a political actor—one that represents a substantial portion of the Palestinian people—can the West begin to provide the right incentives for Hamas to lay down its weapons.” Seems a bit optimistic since October 7. Even though the body may change, the intransigent mind of the true believer may remain fixed in place,but this is the disastrous Carter naiveté in the main.
And then there was the economy.
Since the mid-1980s, even with the occasional recession (often of our own making) the U.S. has experienced a sustained economic boom that makes it hard to remember the years leading up to this age of prosperity. But when Carter was in office things were quite different. The middle class especially was hammered with inflation that surged from <a href="https://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet">6.3%</a> in November 1976 when Carter was elected to a peak of <a href="https://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet">13.6%</a> in June 1980. Rising interest rates saw 30-year mortgages balloon from 8.8% in November 1976 to briefly touch 18.44% in October 1981, only months into Reagan’s first term. Although there is a lingering misconception that unemployment also soared during the Carter years the data shows this is not the case. In fact, unemployment would not peak until 1983, well into Reagan’s first term. But this could be attributed to Fed policies to crush inflation with exorbitantly high rates leading to a deep recession that had a delayed effect.
I admit that such wonkish analysis gets into the weeds of economics and as the expression goes, “if you lay every economist foot-to-head around the world they couldn’t reach a consensus.” But what is certainly true is that during the Carter years, the “<a href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/miseryindex.asp">misery index</a>”, economist Arthur Okun’s formula he created in the 1970s to quantify the true impacts of the economy’s performance on the lives of the average American, reached an all-time high of 21.3% in May 1980. (By contrast it currently runs at 7.2%).
As such, the most powerful argument his GOP opponent Ronald Reagan would make during the 1980 presidential campaign was simply to look into the camera and ask the American people: “Are you better off than you were four years ago?” The voters answered and Carter was defeated.

The common narrative of Carter’s post-presidential years is that of the farmer who returned to his humble roots in Plains, Georgia, and lived a modest life that all ex-presidents should emulate.
Well, yes and no.
Carter’s work in founding the Carter Center, a non-profit dedicated to the advancement of human rights, as well as his hands-on (literally) involvement building homes for the poor with the Habitat For Humanity project has earned him justified accolades from across the political spectrum. But at the same time he did his share of meddling in U.S. affairs, and sometimes questionably so. While in 1990 George W. Bush was cobbling together his Gulf War coalition, Carter was writing letters to the UN trying to thwart his efforts. Given that his friend Arafat sided with Saddam, one is not surprised. But considering the media’s pouncing on Trump for just weighing in (while a candidate for president no less) on the Democrats’ sham border bill, one can only see a double-standard here. There are other examples but this is the most egregious. One thing is for sure, had Trump engaged in such behavior the word “treason” would be tossed around like a football on Sunday.
And so Jimmy Carter’s story is really one compiled of two narratives. Unfortunately, being a supposedly good man (I never met him ) does not always lead to being a successful president. No man is a saint to his valet, and Carter is no exception. I have no doubt many reading this can offer up less favorable language for him. Who am I to judge? But Carter’s legacy after some five decades in politics from Georgia governor to one-term president, is starting to reveal itself, warts and all. In the end, Jimmy Carter should be remembered for leading a successful life, but a failed presidency.

The managers of the official X account for the House Ways and Means Committee Democrats quickly deleted a post on Tuesday that mocked Americans for complaining about the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/inflation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">economy and inflation</a>.
The Democrats&#8217; account reposted a report on shoppers spending a record amount of money on Black Friday. The Ways and Means Committee commented on the report, &#8220;And here we were thinking y&#8217;all couldn&#8217;t afford eggs!&#8221;

Social media users blasted the Ways and Means Committee Democrats for the post dismissing concerns about the economy less than a month after the party was dealt a major electoral defeat, largely due to how Americans view the economy under President Joe Biden. In three years under Biden, egg prices spiked 52.6% in the U.S., Fox Business <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/how-it-started-how-its-going-price-eggs-milk-steak-up-biden-took-office" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in March.
&#8220;As I said it&#8217;s built into their DNA to blame voters for rejecting them, as opposed to self reflection of their message and policies. During the campaign, President-elect Donald Trump focused much of his attention on addressing inflation and economic woes under Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, and it paid off. According to the <a href="https://www.ap.org/news-highlights/spotlights/2024/ap-votecast-voters-who-focused-on-the-economy-broke-hard-for-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AP VoteCast</a> survey, &#8220;Those who said inflation was the most important factor for their vote were almost twice as likely to support Trump over Harris, and about 6 in 10 voters who said the economy and jobs were the most important issue facing the country were in his camp.&#8221;

Social media was abuzz this week after NBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/11/24/thanksgiving-dinner-is-historically-affordable-this-year.html">published an article</a> that claimed “Thanksgiving dinner is historically affordable this year” and suggested the average cost of a Thanksgiving meal for 10 people would cost just $58.08.
The $58 dollar estimate comes from <a href="https://www.fb.org/market-intel/thanksgiving-dinner-costs-are-down-again?x-craft-=eUDkgBkGGG&amp;amp;token=PLfyisHEnfv-suSmPSIVWANIelYha_40" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a survey</a> by the American Farm Bureau Federation, which has conducted the same survey since 1984. That survey, however, has a limited number of items on it, which together can’t be considered a full Thanksgiving meal, let alone a meal for 10 people.
The survey asks volunteer shoppers in all 50 states and Puerto Rico to search their local grocery stores for the prices for the following items: “Turkey, cubed stuffing, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, frozen peas, fresh cranberries, celery, carrots, pumpkin pie mix and crusts, whipping cream, and whole milk.”
If you&#8217;ve ever eaten a Thanksgiving dinner, you&#8217;ll notice a few things missing from this list — including potatoes, butter, gravy, and any ingredients needed to turn these basic items into actual dishes.

When was the last time you sat down for Thanksgiving and filled your plate with cranberries (not in sauce form), peas, celery, carrots, and cooked but plain sweet potatoes? Of course, such a feast wouldn&#8217;t be complete without a pie crust and some dry pumpkin pie mix, which you could presumably mix up with that whipping cream. Doesn&#8217;t that sound delicious?
In 2018, this survey added ham, Russet potatoes, and frozen green beans. Adding in these items already raises the price to $77.34, so the focus on $58 becomes an obvious attempt to make people think prices are low under the Biden administration. It reminds one of the administration’s <a href="https://x.com/WhiteHouse/status/1410709115333234691?lang=en" target="_blank" rel="noopener">embarrassing boast</a> in 2021 that the cost of a July 4th cookout was 16 cents cheaper than in 2020. That, too, was based on a strange list of items used in a Farm Bureau survey.
The claim immediately brought dissent on X, with people wondering how it was possible to feed 10 people for just $58. It turns out, as one might expect, that everything in the article is misleading, starting with the headline.

To get the claim that prices are “historically affordable,” NBC had to hide most of what the survey found and use the “adjusted for inflation” metric.
“When adjusted for inflation – or if your dollar had the same overall purchasing power as a consumer in 1984, right before the beginning of this survey – this would be the least expensive Thanksgiving meal in the 39-year history of the AFBF Thanksgiving survey, other than the outlier of 2020,” the survey authors wrote.
But earlier in the survey, the authors admit that the cost this year “is still 19% higher than five years ago.”
NBC did include this information in the sixth paragraph, but waves off this information because of federal data showing median household wages have grown 25% in the past five years, even if many workers haven’t seen that increase or don’t feel better off now than they were.
The outlet tried to find Thanksgiving meal deals under $58, but, like the survey, came up short when it came to the true cost of the holiday. Target, for example, has a deal for some items that feeds four and <a href="https://corporate.target.com/press/release/2024/10/target-s-thanksgiving-meal-is-back-and-$5-less-than-last-year,-serving-four-people-for-$20" target="_blank" rel="noopener">costs just $20</a>. Obviously, one can triple that and feed 12 for $60. But here’s what that includes:

<li>A 5-pound bag of Russet potatoes</li>
<li>A can of green beans</li>
<li>A can of Campbell’s cream of mushroom soup</li>
<li>A can of cranberry sauce</li>
<li>A box of stuffing mix</li>
<li>A jar of turkey gravy</li>
</ul>
Again, this doesn’t include the ingredients needed to turn most of these items into dishes, such as butter or milk, and it also doesn’t include rolls. Add in the additional items needed, and the price goes up – and remember, this is just for four people.
Costco also advertises a Thanksgiving meal kit that includes mashed potatoes, green beans, cranberry sauce, turkey, stuffing, and gravy. It costs about $40, and they say it feeds seven to eight people. Here’s what it looks like:

NBC found deals at Aldi and Walmart that were closer to a Thanksgiving meal for under or around $58. Aldi has a Thanksgiving basket <a href="https://corporate.aldi.us/fileadmin/fm-dam/newsroom/Press_Releases/ALDI_Commits_to_Thanksgiving_Prices_Lower_Than_2019__Feeding_10_People_for_Less_than__01.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">it says</a> will feed 10 people for just $47, which includes a 16-pound turkey “with spices, gravy, rolls, mac &amp; cheese, stuffing – plus the ingredients for cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole and pumpkin pie.”
Now, that sounds like an actual Thanksgiving dinner. But it sounded a bit too good to be true. So, The Daily Wire headed to our local Aldi to check it out.
It turns out, according to two employees we spoke to, there was no basket or set list of items: the announcement was just a way to let people know Aldi has low prices. Specifically, they kept telling us the “pumpkin pie” on the list referred to a prepared pie, even though the Aldi announcement says the $47 price includes “the ingredients for… pumpkin pie.” Adding up all the necessary ingredients to make your own pumpkin pie, using Aldi’s cheapest items still costs about $20 before taxes, so it’s definitely better to buy a prepared pie, although The Daily Wire could not find one at our nearest location.
The Aldi employees also couldn’t say just what ingredients were included in the $47 price – did it include milk or butter?
Walmart also advertises an “<a href="https://corporate.walmart.com/news/2024/10/17/walmart-sets-the-table-early-with-a-thanksgiving-meal-for-less-than-7-per-person/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inflation-free Thanksgiving</a>” meal that includes 29 items and serves eight people for $56. That’s just under $58 but it feeds two fewer people. Here’s what it includes:

That does include a lot of ingredients, but is also missing the basic mixing items like butter and milk. The pumpkin pie recipe on the back of the can of pure pumpkin, for example, requires eggs, sugar, salt, cloves, nutmeg, ginger, cinnamon, and milk – none of which are included in the list above (the evaporated milk would be the substitute). If using the ingredients to make a sweet potato pie, you’re still missing eggs, brown sugar, butter, and other spices, depending on your recipe. The corn muffin mix also calls for an egg and milk, and possibly paper baking cups, all additional to the list above.
Now, let’s talk about the turkey. A 16-pound turkey isn’t enough for 10 people, unless most of those people are children or are as tiny as <a href="https://x.com/kassyakiva/status/1679654016467255298?s=46&amp;t=ghpHusspWPjTMisXwpsMaA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire’s Kassy Akiva</a>. Maybe these companies are banking on you having a lot of vegan relatives.
Also, a single pack of this brand of rolls means one small roll per person with two left over. How many people will be satisfied with only one roll? Certainly more than two.
To find out what $58 can actually buy for Thanksgiving, The Daily Wire went to a local grocery chain – one that wouldn’t be considered the “top tier” chain in the area. Using store rewards deals and choosing cheaper alternatives, we attempted to get items that would be included on a standard Thanksgiving dinner list. Here’s what we were able to get for $58.11 (remember the estimate is $58.08).

We have a turkey and gravy mix, potatoes (but no butter or milk to properly mash them), two prepared pies, five cans of green beans (it was a 5 for $5 deal), and crispy French onions (but no cream of mushroom soup), two boxes of stuffing mix, and brown sugar, yams, and mini marshmallows (but no additional spices). So, with this, we could make … turkey, gravy, stuffing, and pie. We didn’t have enough for a green bean casserole or mashed potatoes or yams with marshmallows. We could cook potatoes and smash them, but they would have no flavor unless we already had enough butter and milk at home.
This picture is also misleading, because that is the before tax cost of those items. Our state has a 4.75% sales tax, which would bring the cost up to $60.87, over the average claimed in the NBC article.
To see what the cost of an actual Thanksgiving for 10 people would cost, The Daily Wire continued shopping to collect the remaining ingredients needed to make or vastly improve the dishes we were going for. We also included three bottles of cheap wine, because none of the grocery stores – or the Farm Bureau survey – took into account that people need to drink something during Thanksgiving dinner. Or maybe they just expected everyone to drink water, or already have enough juice or soda or whatever at home?
Shopping the lowest prices we could, our list still came to $126.31 before taxes, or more than $130 after taxes. Granted, one could buy more prepared foods like mashed potatoes or yams, or make other dishes that don’t require a lot of extra ingredients. But based on all our research, it seems impossible to actually make Thanksgiving dinner for 10 regular people and keep the cost to around $58.

American consumer sentiment is on the rise, especially among Republicans, following Donald Trump&#8217;s landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this month.
The University of Michigan&#8217;s Consumer Sentiment Index rose to 71.8 in November, which marks the highest point since April, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/us-consumer-sentiment-ticks-up-shows-post-election-partisan-flip-2024-11-22/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Consumer sentiment was rising before the election, but the latest report shows a massive spike among Republicans who are more optimistic about the economy following Trump&#8217;s win.
&#8220;Overall, the stability of national sentiment this month obscures discordant partisan patterns,&#8221; said Surveys of Consumers Director Joanne Hsu. &#8220;In a mirror image of November 2020, the expectations index surged for Republicans and fell for Democrats this month, a reflection of the two groups’ incongruous views of how Trump’s policies will influence the economy.&#8221;
“Ultimately, substantial uncertainty remains over the future implementation of Trump’s economic agenda, and consumers will continue to re-calibrate their views in the months ahead,” Hsu added.
Among Republicans, consumer sentiment shot up by 15.5 points, while it dropped among Democrats by 10.1 points. Consumer sentiment also slightly ticked down among independents. Future expectations also increased among Republicans by nearly 30 points while falling among Democrats by more than 18 points, the Washington Examiner <a href="https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/finance-and-economy/3239226/consumer-sentiment-surges-among-republicans-following-trump-win/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The report comes as shoppers head to stores and look online for Black Friday and Christmas deals.
In the final weeks before the election, the consumer price index, which measures the general cost of goods and services across the country, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/inflation-hotter-than-expected-in-final-report-before-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">increased</a> 0.2% when seasonally adjusted. Eggs were 8.4% higher, nearly 40% more expensive than a year ago. Butter was 2.8% higher, almost 8% more expensive than a year ago.
Americans look forward to potentially lower inflation, with year-ahead inflation expectations falling to 2.6% this month. Inflation under President Joe Biden reached 9.1% in June of 2022 after Americans grew accustomed to an inflation rate of less than 2% when Trump was in office.
Trump made the economy and inflation major issues of his campaign, promising to address them mainly by lowering energy prices. In September, during a town hall meeting in Flint, Michigan, Trump was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-addressing-economic-woes-begins-with-one-issue" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> how he would “bring down the cost of food and groceries” as many families struggle to pay their bills.

“We have to start always with energy,” Trump replied. “I don’t want to be boring about it, but there’s no bigger subject that covers everything. If you make donuts, if you make cars, whatever you make, energy is a big deal.”
“And it’s my ambition to get your energy bill within 12 months down 50%,” he added. “If I can do that, we’ve done a hell of a job … [and] interest rates are going to follow.”

Staunchly libertarian Argentinian President Javier Milei’s economic plans are proving enormously successful, as the country&#8217;s inflation <a href="https://apnews.com/article/argentina-inflation-milei-economy-21560cec4fd473a95155adf06ca46c4a?taid=673424a10264b5000162887b&amp;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">plunged</a> to 2.7% in October, the lowest level in three years.
Milei was elected roughly one year ago, but the measures he has taken have revivified the once-crippled Argentinian economy, where inflation dropped in October to 2.7% after registering at 3.5% in October. Milei had promised to lower inflation to less than 3% before the end of 2024.
&#8220;We are decreasing the tax that creates the most distortion: inflation,&#8221; Economy Minister Luis Caputo <a href="https://www.barrons.com/news/argentine-monthly-inflation-falls-to-three-year-low-34d2c913">stated</a>.
In 2022, the Argentinian <a href="https://www.statista.com/topics/10637/inflation-in-argentina/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inflation rate</a> was 72.43%. <a href="https://www.barrons.com/news/argentine-monthly-inflation-falls-to-three-year-low-34d2c913" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Barrons</a> reported that when Milei took office last December, “monthly inflation leapt by 25.5 percent after he devalued the peso by more than 50 percent. It has since been on a downward trajectory, coming in at under five percent each month since May. &#8230; Milei, who wielded a chainsaw on the campaign trail last year as a symbol of his plan to slash public spending, has cut energy and transport subsidies and thousands of public sector jobs.”
&#8220;We are emerging from the desert, the country is starting to grow again,&#8221; Milei declared.
In early October, students <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/americas/argentina-budget-cuts-spark-protests-universities-2024-10-02/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">protested</a> in Buenos Aires because Milei’s government implemented strong spending cuts at public universities.
The Economist <a href="https://www.economist.com/leaders/2024/06/19/javier-mileis-next-move-could-make-his-presidency-or-break-it" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> in June that Milei had “slashed spending&#8221; while the  &#8220;central bank stopped printing money to finance the deficit,” adding that “by most economic measures Mr Milei is beating expectations.  &#8230; Argentina has had fiscal surpluses for five months in a row. Inflation spiked after a sharp devaluation, but has since fallen to a monthly rate of 4.2% in May, the lowest in over two years.”
In January, Milei spoke at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where he <a href="https://www.weforum.org/stories/2024/01/special-address-by-javier-milei-president-of-argentina/">stated</a>, “Today, I’m here to tell you that the Western world is in danger. And it is in danger because those who are supposed to have to defend the values of the West are co-opted by a vision of the world that inexorably leads to socialism and thereby to poverty.”
“Unfortunately, in recent decades, the main leaders of the Western world have abandoned the model of freedom for different versions of what we call collectivism. Some have been motivated by well-meaning individuals who are willing to help others, and others have been motivated by the wish to belong to a privileged caste,” Milei added. “We’re here to tell you that collectivist experiments are never the solution to the problems that afflict the citizens of the world. Rather, they are the root cause.”
He concluded, “Do not surrender to the advance of the state. The state is not the solution. The state is the problem itself. &#8230; long live freedom!&#8221;
In May 2024, Milei spoke in Spain, where he <a href="https://www.barrons.com/news/spain-deputy-pm-accuses-milei-of-sowing-hatred-1a41d091" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>: &#8220;Let us not let the dark, black, satanic, atrocious, horrible carcinogenic side that is socialism prevail over us.&#8221;
Before he was elected, Milei held numerous rallies in front of thousands of young people at which he would educate them on conservative economic policies, quoting famed economists such as Friedrich Hayek.

Imagine being a strategist for the Democrat Party right now. You&#8217;re tasked with conducting a post-mortem analysis of an election in which virtually every single demographic group in the country, in all 50 states, turned very sharply against you. Tens of millions of Americans ignored the endorsements of modern-day oracles like Taylor Swift and Queen Latifah and voted for the candidate you&#8217;ve been calling a Hitler-loving &#8220;threat to democracy.&#8221; How do you even begin to catalog all of the various failures that led your party to this point? 
Up until now, the prevailing excuse in the Democrat Party has been pretty clear. As I&#8217;ve <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/why-millions-of-minority-voters-are-ditching-the-democratic-party" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlined</a> before, many Democrats are happy to dismiss the entire country as racist and sexist. In fact, Hispanics are apparently racist against themselves. This is the kind of theory you come up with when you don&#8217;t want to actually talk to Hispanic people, or be anywhere near them for that matter. But you have to find some way to explain why they might want to build a wall and enforce the law, so you conclude that they must hate themselves. That must be it.
At the same time, there is at least one Democrat-aligned group that’s taking a different and more serious approach. I&#8217;m talking about something called Blueprint, which I hadn&#8217;t heard of until a day ago. Blueprint <a href="https://blueprint2024.com/about/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">describes</a> itself as a &#8220;vital tool&#8221; that can help Democrats win elections in the future. This is a Left-wing group that basically tries to craft messaging for the DNC.
Over the past week, Blueprint has employed pollsters and strategists to figure out how Democrats lost so badly on Election Day. They&#8217;ve been tasked with sifting through the wreckage to identify what caused the implosion. And what they&#8217;ve found is remarkable. Even given all the endless polls and analysis we&#8217;ve been subjected to this month, this one stands out.
I hadn&#8217;t seen these results until Charlie Kirk <a href="https://x.com/charliekirk11/status/1855081000386412677" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pointed</a> them out the other day, in a post on X. He posted this chart of Blueprint&#8217;s findings. It shows all the issues that voters cared about in this election, ranked by their level of relative importance. They calculated this by asking voters to compare a bunch of issues, in a kind of round-robin analysis.

As you can see, there are a lot of issues on that list. Voters had many options to choose from. And according to Blueprint&#8217;s findings, swing voters who ultimately voted for Trump — meaning, the people who determined the outcome of this election — were very unhappy with Kamala Harris&#8217; focus on transgender issues. In fact, Kamala&#8217;s views on topics like transgenderism, at the expense of substantive issues, was the number-one, most important issue on these swing voters&#8217; minds.
Just so we&#8217;re clear on the terms, Blueprint defines a &#8220;swing voter&#8221; as:
<blockquote>those who are undecided in the presidential race, have changed their voting preference since 2020 (voting Democrat in one election and Republican in the other), or are independents who either indicate they split their votes between Democrats and Republicans, or who hold either favorable or unfavorable views of both Trump and Harris.</blockquote>
If you go to Blueprint&#8217;s <a href="https://blueprint2024.com/polling/why-trump-reasons-11-8/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">crosstabs</a>, here&#8217;s what they found specifically about this group of voters. Among swing voters who ultimately voted for Trump, the top reason for voting for Trump over Kamala was:
<blockquote>Kamala Harris is focused more on cultural issues like transgender issues rather than helping the middle class.</blockquote>
That was the single most important issue for these swing voters, relative to all the others. The next most important issue was inflation, followed closely by illegal migration.
This is a finding that, if you had floated it as a possibility prior to the election, would&#8217;ve gotten you laughed out of the room. But now that Democrats realize that most voters think they&#8217;re crazy, they&#8217;re finally talking about it. Democrat-aligned pollsters are openly recognizing that transgenderism — including the associated government policies that have been championed by trans activists and the Biden-Harris administration — is a massive problem for the Democrat Party.

And yet, this is a problem that — certainly at least in a pre-”<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">What Is A Woman?</a>” world — very few Republicans wanted to touch. In fact, plenty of Republicans still don&#8217;t want to talk about this. It&#8217;s an issue that for years I was personally ridiculed for pursuing, including by many on the Right. Even among people who believe we&#8217;re on the correct side of the whole debate, a lot of them still said it was a waste of time to talk about it.
These people think that so-called &#8220;culture war issues&#8221; are a side show. They&#8217;re &#8220;irrelevant distractions,&#8221; supposedly. But they aren’t. Culture is everything. It’s the stuff that a nation is made of. And that matters politically. People vote for culture. People don&#8217;t just vote based on candidates&#8217; personalities, or on specific proposals. They vote for the country they want to live in. And now, a critical mass of those voters have decided that they don&#8217;t want to live in a country that can&#8217;t even define the word &#8220;woman.&#8221;
To be clear, this result isn&#8217;t saying that transgenderism was at the top of voters&#8217; minds all by itself. Instead, what this result reveals is that trans issue is about much more than just transgenderism. It’s symptomatic of something larger and deeper. Voters see the trans agenda as an assault on truth and basic common sense, which is exactly what it is. It&#8217;s a destructive set of beliefs that serves only to derail human progress while harming a lot of people.
Trans ideology requires that Americans affirm what is not true and reject objective reality, on the theory that this is somehow the more &#8220;humane&#8221; approach. But there&#8217;s nothing humane or sustainable about lying — especially when the point of the lying is to obscure something as fundamental as human biology and human nature. If you tolerate lies about that, then you will tolerate lies about anything. 
If a white guy wants to identify as black, then you can&#8217;t object. 
If a politician wants to claim that crime is down when it&#8217;s clearly not, then you can&#8217;t complain about that, either. 
If the government wants to claim the economy is doing fine when no one can find a job or afford groceries, then you have to shut up and take it.
Once reality is subjective, you can&#8217;t communicate anymore in any meaningful way, much less fix problems. All you can do is spiral down further and further into delusions. Trans ideology is built on the premise that we all have our own truth. That there is no objective reality or universal truth that we are all expected to acknowledge.

If we accept trans ideology, we accept this premise. And if we accept this premise, we have tacitly accepted every other Left-wing premise, because now we have no basis to deny any of it. We cannot call anything untrue. Now there is nothing that can be called untrue. Which means there is also nothing that can be called true. This is the fundamental reason why the fight against trans ideology matters. It’s the case that some of us have been making for many years, even against the objections of our own side. But now the voters see it and agree. And it’s one of the main reasons why Democrats were just obliterated in the election.
The Trump campaign understood that this issue would resonate with voters. That’s why they released this ad, which may have been the single most effective ad in the entire campaign. In fact it may be one of the best ads ever produced by a political campaign. Watch:

When she spoke to Fox News — in the only hostile interview she participated in during the entire campaign — Kamala was asked directly about this ad. She had the opportunity to disavow all of this nonsense. She could&#8217;ve admitted that it was a terrible idea to use taxpayer money to fund sex changes for illegals, or for anyone else. She could&#8217;ve acknowledged that people can&#8217;t change their gender or pick their pronouns. She also could&#8217;ve laid out a clear definition of the word &#8220;woman&#8221; — which is a pretty important word to define, since she was campaigning to be the first woman president.
In other words, Kamala had the opportunity to do what the African tribesmen did when I spoke to them in &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">What is a Woman?</a>&#8220;. She could have laughed in the face of this absurdity, as anyone with common sense would do. She could have demonstrated to Americans that she&#8217;s not going to surrender the federal government to a small number of radical, anti-truth activists. But Kamala didn&#8217;t do any of that.
Instead, here&#8217;s how she addressed this ad when Bret Baier brought it up:

So she mocks the Trump campaign for spending so much money on the ad. This is the candidate whose campaign raised a billion dollars and ended up in debt by tens of millions of dollars because they hired a bunch of celebrity influencers who, it turns out, have no influence. Yet she’s lecturing the Trump campaign on how they should&#8217;ve spent their money. Maybe the Trump campaign should&#8217;ve gone bankrupt in order to get Megan Thee Stallion to twerk on stage. That strategy obviously worked out so well for Kamala.
And then Kamala goes on to dismiss the whole issue as unimportant. She claims that Americans don&#8217;t really care about all of this trans stuff. But they do. They care about it because they care about truth. And they care about truth because if you don’t have that, literally nothing else matters.
Already, there are some signs that Left-wing media is coming around, ever so begrudgingly, to this reality. Here&#8217;s Joe Scarborough, for example.

You can imagine how well this monologue went over among the various LGBTQ alphabet activist groups and publications. 
The Advocate, for example, wrote an entire article attacking Scarborough for this. They <a href="https://www.advocate.com/voices/morning-joe-transphobia-trump-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated </a>that, 
<blockquote>&#8220;If you voted for Donald Trump and against Kamala Harris because you had something against the trans community, you were beyond an outlier. You were not even a blip on the radar. So why are people like Joe and Mika callously targeting the trans community for Harris’s loss? And why are they doing it so brazenly? Instead of discussing the real reasons why Harris lost to Trump, they trash innocent human beings. The most vulnerable in society.&#8221;</blockquote>
So again, they assume this is a fringe issue, when it&#8217;s obviously not. They think voters who are tired of trans nonsense are a &#8220;blip on the radar.&#8221; But the truth is — as this Blueprint poll demonstrates — Americans don&#8217;t want to affirm lies anymore. They are tired of having their culture held hostage by these people. It doesn&#8217;t matter how much you try to berate these voters for &#8220;trashing innocent human beings&#8221; or whatever. Something is either true or it&#8217;s not. Affirming the truth is not &#8220;trashing&#8221; anyone. It&#8217;s the bare minimum necessary to ensure that society can continue to function.
On CNN, they still haven&#8217;t come around to this realization. Instead, they just hosted a live on-air struggle session after a guest pointed out that Americans don&#8217;t like the idea of boys competing in women&#8217;s sports. Watch:

Yes, it&#8217;s now a &#8220;slur&#8221; to refer to a boy as a boy. If a 12-year-old boy says he feels like a girl, you don&#8217;t get to substitute your bigoted opinions for the well-informed judgment of a preteen. Who do you think you are? All you get to do is nod your head and ask a doctor to pump his body full of sterilizing hormones. This is the position of CNN. It&#8217;s the position of the woman hosting this show. But it&#8217;s the position of a vanishingly small amount of the electorate.
That clip goes on for a while, by the way. The first guy says something that&#8217;s obviously true — that boys are competing in women&#8217;s sports, and they shouldn&#8217;t be — and then gets relentlessly heckled for it. He&#8217;s eventually told that the &#8220;American Medical Association&#8221; says that children can change their gender, so therefore, you don&#8217;t get to have an opinion on the topic. You have to accept their judgment or else you&#8217;ll get banned from CNN, just like the last guest who tried to speak his mind on this same panel.
This is the divide that the Democrats are experiencing right now as a party. This is the choice they have. They can either choose to acknowledge reality, or they can double down on absurdities and falsehoods. If they go with the absurdities and falsehoods, then they&#8217;re going to keep haranguing Americans, calling for censorship, and screaming at an audience that&#8217;s rapidly becoming nonexistent. Whatever they decide, it&#8217;s now clear that voters have made up their minds. On Tuesday, swing voters decided that affirming reality is the single most important issue in this country. This is the political victory that we&#8217;ve been seeking from the moment we began fighting the deranged excesses of gender ideology several years ago. And now it’s here. But as long as the Left keeps pushing it, the fight will continue.

MSNBC&#8217;s Joe Scarborough expressed shock on Thursday when he learned how expensive the cost of butter was for many Americans, prompting him to ask if it was wrapped in gold.
The moment came on the network&#8217;s &#8220;Morning Joe&#8221; show with his wife, co-host Mika Brzezinski, as they discussed why President-elect Donald Trump beat Vice President Kamala Harris.
&#8220;I want to talk about the economy for a second,&#8221; he said. &#8220;A few weeks ago, three weeks ago, somebody who was going to be voting for Kamala Harris came up to me and said, &#8216;Oh my god, Trump&#8217;s going to win.&#8217; I go, &#8216;Why is that?&#8217; He goes, &#8216;I just, I went to the grocery store, butter is over $3.'&#8221;
&#8220;I kind of laughed and I said, &#8216;Well, that&#8217;s kind of reductive, isn&#8217;t it?&#8217; I said it to myself,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;To him, I smiled, and I said, &#8216;Good point.&#8217; But it actually, everything we&#8217;re hearing after the election is&#8211;&#8221;
Brzezinski then interrupted and pointed out that butter actually costs $7, not $3.

&#8220;It ended up being just the point, that if you look at the cost of groceries, if you look at the cost of gas, if you look at the cost of things compared to four years ago, it was a very simple answer for working-class Americans: things just cost too much,&#8221; he added.

Vice President Kamala Harris claimed over the weekend that the inflation crisis she <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-kamala-harris-triggered-the-inflation-crisis-that-harmed-america">sparked</a> shortly after coming into office was not a &#8220;partisan issue.&#8221;
Harris claimed in an interview with CBS News that she could lower prices of private sector goods and services by signing legislation.
&#8220;What do you think you&#8217;ll be able to do if you have a divided Congress?&#8221; host Norah O&#8217;Donnell asked.
&#8220;So I will tell you, for most of the issues that I think concern the vast majority of Americans, they&#8217;re not partisan issues,&#8221; Harris said while citing things like &#8220;bringing down the cost of groceries, [and] bringing down the cost of housing.&#8221;
&#8220;These are not partisan issues,&#8221; she said. &#8220;Democrats, Republicans, independents deal with these issues equally, and actually don&#8217;t think of think of them through the lens of the party with which they&#8217;re registered to vote. So that means working across the aisle.&#8221;

In March 2021, Harris <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-kamala-harris-triggered-the-inflation-crisis-that-harmed-america">cast</a> the tie-breaking vote in the U.S. Senate to advance the behemoth $1.9 trillion spending package known as the American Rescue Plan. The bill — which not a single Republican in the House or Senate voted for — was signed into law a week later.
The American Rescue Plan was the catalyst that sparked the country’s highest inflation rates in more than 40 years, with The Washington Post noting that prices on a wide range of items began to rise “within days” of the bill being signed into law. The following month, inflation jumped from 2.6% to 4.2%, the highest number in well over a decade, and a year later, inflation rates were soaring over 8% on a monthly basis, going as high as 9.1% in June 2022.

Inflation came in hotter than expected in the final Labor Department report before the presidential election less than four weeks away.
The consumer price index, which measures the general cost of goods and services across the country, increased 0.2% in September when seasonally adjusted, according to the <a class="link " href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/pdf/cpi.pdf" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" data-i13n="cpos:1;pos:1" data-ylk="slk:latest data;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas" data-rapid_p="12" data-v9y="1">latest data</a> from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released Thursday morning.
Eggs were 8.4% higher, nearly 40% more expensive than a year ago. Butter was 2.8% higher, nearly 8% more expensive than a year ago.
Energy prices fell 1.9% in September. Gasoline prices fell, but electricity and natural gas prices ticked up.
This bumped the annual inflation rate up to 2.4%. Both numbers were 0.1 percentage point higher than the Dow Jones expectations.
Meanwhile, jobless claims also jumped following Hurricane Helene&#8217;s devastation in North Carolina and several other areas. Unemployment filings hit 258,000 for the week ending October 5, the highest since last year at the beginning of August. This was 33,000 more jobless claims than the previous week and much higher than the predicted 230,000.
Food and housing prices especially jumped. Food saw a 0.4% rise, while shelter saw a 0.2% rise in cost.
The &#8220;core&#8221; index, which takes out the more volatile prices of food and gas, also ticked up more than expected, 0.3% over the 0.2% growth economists expected, and 3.3% higher than a year ago.
The stock market saw a dip Thursday after the report was released.
The numbers show that the &#8220;Biden-Harris administration was never able to get this issue under control and back to the Federal Reserve&#8217;s target rate,&#8221; Alfredo Ortiz, CEO of the Job Creators Network, said in a <a href="https://www.jobcreatorsnetwork.com/press_releases/job-creators-network-responds-to-september-consumer-price-index/">statement</a>.
&#8220;Under the Biden-Harris administration, inflation increased by a total of 21%. In other words, the value of the dollars in American wallets has declined by one-fifth, preventing ordinary people from making ends meet. &#8220;This alone means Kamala Harris does not deserve a promotion to the Oval Office,&#8221; Ortiz said. &#8220;She cast the tiebreaking vote in $3 trillion of unnecessary deficit spending that bid up prices and diluted the currency. Pro-growth conservatives who believe in a sound dollar, economic growth, and deficit reduction are urgently needed in Congress and the White House to make America affordable again.&#8221;
Vice President Kamala Harris has struggled to win over voters with her economic message, and polls show that the majority of voters favor former President Donald Trump on the economy.
With less than four weeks until Election Day, Harris is locked in a tight presidential race with Trump. She is currently leading by just two percentage points, less than Hillary Clinton was leading at this point in 2016 before she ultimately lost.
