On Tuesday, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) warned against repercussions for his fellow Democrat lawmakers who clashed with federal agents at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility at Delaney Hall in Newark, New Jersey, last week.
During an <a href="https://x.com/ChadPergram/status/1922342002298884340" target="_blank" rel="noopener">exchange</a> with Fox News reporter Chad Pergram, Jeffries repeatedly <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/politics/hakeem-jeffries-angrily-condemns-joke-dhs-spox-for-threatening-arrests-of-house-democrats-thats-a-red-line/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> &#8220;they&#8217;ll find out&#8221; when pressed what might happen if the House Democrats involved in the incident were to be arrested by federal authorities or get sanctioned.

Jeffries ultimately asserted that it would be a &#8220;red line&#8221; as the questions persisted. He also took a swipe at Department of Homeland Security (DHS) spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, who <a href="https://x.com/UsaFeatures/status/1921308745495146726" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> CNN that arresting the Democrats in question was &#8220;definitely on the table,&#8221; pending an investigation.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a red line. It&#8217;s very clear,&#8221; Jeffries said. &#8220;First of all, I think that the so-called Homeland Security spokesperson is a joke. It&#8217;s a joke. They know better than to go down that road. And it&#8217;s been made loudly and abundantly clear to the Trump administration. We&#8217;re not going to be intimidated by their tactics.&#8221;
The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who is running for New Jersey governor and is protesting the Delaney Hall facility, was arrested following the security breach last Friday. Alina Habba, the interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, said he &#8220;committed trespass and ignored multiple warnings from Homeland Security Investigations to remove himself from the ICE detention center.&#8221;
DHS <a href="https://www.dhs.gov/news/2025/05/09/members-congress-break-delaney-hall-detention-center" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> two House Democrats who joined Baraka that day — New Jersey Reps. Bonnie Watson-Coleman and Rob Menendez — &#8220;stormed the gate and broke into&#8221; the facility.
While the New Jersey Democrats insisted they were at Delaney Hall to conduct legitimate supervision, McLaughlin <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1922309031894323482" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post on X, &#8220;Members of Congress cannot break the law in the name of &#8216;oversight.&#8217; All members &amp; staff need to comply with facility rules, procedures, and instructions from ICE personnel on site. INCLUDING 24 hour notice.&#8221;
House Republicans have introduced measures to punish the Democrats involved in the altercation, including a censure <a href="https://x.com/RepTimmons/status/1922429753698484552" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resolution</a> against Rep. LaMonica McIver, another lawmaker from New Jersey who was at the protest, and a <a href="https://x.com/liz_elkind/status/1922347246147780625" target="_blank" rel="noopener">resolution</a> to strip them of their committee assignments.
On X, Pergram <a href="https://x.com/ChadPergram/status/1922424558449262905" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) told a Fox News colleague he believes there &#8220;needs to be an appropriate measure taken&#8221; as the &#8220;video doesn&#8217;t lie,&#8221; a reference to ICE body-cam <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/democrats-claim-ice-agents-roughed-them-up-body-cam-footage-says-otherwise" target="_blank" rel="noopener">footage</a> showing part of the confrontation between the New Jersey Democrats and DHS agents. He added, &#8220;I think it was wildly inappropriate for those members to do that and we&#8217;ll have to take appropriate action.&#8221;

Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) took to X on Friday to complain about the arrest of Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, suggesting that President Donald Trump&#8217;s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was simply arresting people who opposed him politically.
Khanna was responding to the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">debacle</a> that unfolded at Delaney Hall — a detention center being used to house criminal illegal aliens in Newark, New Jersey — when Baraka and three House Democrats joined a protest and, according to DHS, &#8220;stormed&#8221; the facility and demanded access to and oversight of the facility. They reportedly waited for the gates to open for a transport vehicle, at which point they charged through the gates and past security. Baraka was arrested at the scene, but DHS has suggested that Reps. LaMonica McIver, Bonnie Watson-Coleman, and Rob Menendez (D-NJ) could also be taken into custody if <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/new-jersey-dem-says-ice-manufactured-body-cam-footage-to-frame-her" target="_blank" rel="noopener">body-cam footage</a> reveals that they broke the law.

Three House Democrats — all from New Jersey — and the Mayor of Newark descended on Delaney Hall on Friday, demanding access to and oversight of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center that is being used to house criminal illegal aliens. What followed was a &#8220;they said &#8211; they said&#8221; scenario involving the Department of Homeland Security and the Democrats — and some of it played out on the Sunday morning political talk shows.
For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
The protest that took place on Friday — according to Newark&#8217;s Democratic Mayor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ras Baraka</a> and Garden State Democratic Reps. LaMonica McIver, Bonnie Watson-Coleman, and Rob Menendez — was simply several members of Congress exercising their oversight authority. Watson-Coleman told CNN on Saturday that the group was simply waiting for &#8220;a tour&#8221; of the facility, the obvious implication being that the tour had been prearranged.
Mayor Baraka, who is currently campaigning to be New Jersey&#8217;s next governor, has been protesting Delaney Hall&#8217;s existence since the beginning. During the week prior to the protest, city workers parked a bulldozer in front of the gate in order to block access to the facility. Baraka was arrested during the protest and detained by ICE agents.
The Department of Homeland Security offered an entirely different take on the incident: initial reports stated that the New Jersey Democrats had been part of a protest group that waited outside the gates until they were opened for a vehicle transporting detainees – at which point they rushed past security and onto the property. DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said in a statement that if they had requested a tour rather than simply staging a protest outside the gate, one would have been arranged.
On CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; Rep. Michael McCaul (R-TX) addressed reports that ICE could potentially arrest the three Democratic representatives who had been involved in the protests as well.

McCaul said that ICE arresting the members of Congress would be a &#8220;very drastic move,&#8221; adding, &#8220;I would only do that if they were complicit with a crime.&#8221;
&#8220;I don&#8217;t know all the facts behind this,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;If they were just visiting a detention center, that&#8217;s — I&#8217;ve done that many times. If they were disrupting law enforcement, that&#8217;s another question. We can peacefully protest in this country, but you cannot be complicit with gang violence against our law enforcement, and I think perhaps that&#8217;s what it comes down to.&#8221;
Anchor Dana Bash also brought up the incident during Sunday&#8217;s broadcast of &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; — and she brought in the three New Jersey Democrats to weigh in on what had happened.

During a previous CNN interview on Saturday, Watson-Coleman had claimed that DHS officials were &#8220;lying&#8221; when they accused the Democrats and protesters of getting rough with ICE agents, and said that any body cam footage that showed such actions would have to be &#8220;manufactured.

Rep. McIver responded to DHS reports that she had &#8220;body-slammed&#8221; an ICE agent during the scuffle, saying, &#8220;I honestly do not know how to body slam anyone. There&#8217;s no video that supports me body slamming anyone.&#8221;
Menendez then claimed that ICE agents had intentionally escalated the situation, adding, &#8220;There were a lot of opportunities for DHS, for ICE to de-escalate the situation. They chose not to&#8230; It&#8217;s something that should really shock all Americans.&#8221;
Later on in the broadcast, Bash brought in a panel to discuss the situation — and the possibility that the three Democratic Reps. could face arrest.

Rep. Bonnie Watson-Coleman (D-NJ) claimed on Saturday that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials would use &#8220;manufactured&#8221; body cam footage to make it appear as though she and her fellow protesters — which included two other House Democrats and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka — had been the instigators.
Watson-Coleman appeared on CNN on Saturday to discuss the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">incident</a> that took place outside Delaney Hall — an ICE-operated detention center in Newark, New Jersey, that currently houses criminal illegal aliens. She and fellow Garden State Reps. Rob Menendez and LaMonica McIver had joined Mayor Baraka and had demanded access to the facility to exercise &#8220;oversight.&#8221;

&#8220;We were there for a tour,&#8221; Watson-Coleman began, giving the impression that the &#8220;tour&#8221; was planned and they were supposed to be there. She then went on to say that they eventually got &#8220;access&#8221; to the facility, leaving out the fact that she and the others had waited until the gate opened for a vehicle transporting detainees and then charged past security.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin responded in a statement, saying, &#8220;Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility.&#8221;
Watson-Coleman went on to claim that the ICE agents had arrested Mayor Baraka after he walked out of the facility and was on public property — but Alina Habba, acting U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, said that Baraka only left the facility when he was told he would be placed under arrest, after which ICE agents followed and placed him in handcuffs.
Watson-Coleman then conceded that she and Rep. Menendez had attempted to &#8220;shield&#8221; Baraka from the agents when they came to arrest him, but said that she didn&#8217;t &#8220;know anything about anybody hitting back at those large and weaponized officers&#8221; during the ensuing scuffle.
&#8220;ICE caused this chaos,&#8221; she insisted, claiming that anyone who said the protesters were at fault was lying because President Donald Trump had given everyone in his administration &#8220;permission to lie.&#8221;
The CNN anchor noted that ICE had promised to go public with body cam footage that showed protesters getting rough with the ICE agents.
&#8220;If there&#8217;s any such body — kind of footage, it is footage that is manufactured for this purpose,&#8221; Watson-Coleman said. &#8220;Because I said it before, and I&#8217;ll say it again, they are lying.&#8221;

Several New Jersey Democrats claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents got “rough” with them on Friday, but body-cam footage told a very different story.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers">incident</a> unfolded outside Delaney Hall, a detention facility housing criminal illegal aliens in Newark, New Jersey, as several House Democrats (New Jersey Reps. Bonnie Watson-Coleman, LaMonica McIver, and Rob Menendez) pushed past security and demanded access to and oversight of the facility.
According to reports, the protesters waited outside the gate until it was opened for a vehicle transporting detainees, at which point they rushed through the gate. Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka also participated in the breach and was arrested.
On Saturday, after the Garden State Democrats claimed that they’d been manhandled and roughed up by the ICE agents, the Justice Department released body-cam footage of the clash between protesters and officers.

Fox News national correspondent Bill Melugin explained what was shown in the body-cam footage:
“NEW: DHS has provided @FoxNews ICE bodycam video from the altercation at the Delaney Hall detention facility yesterday,” Melugin posted via X. “They say the video clearly shows @RepLaMonica (red clothing) shoving/elbowing her way past a DHS agent to get past the gate and into the property, followed behind by @RepMenendez &amp; that it also shows Congresswoman McIver screaming in the faces of DHS agents.”
“The members of Congress claim they were assaulted and ‘roughed up’ during the incident, and deny DHS’ characterization that they ‘stormed’ the facility,” he added.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons joined “Fox &amp; Friends: Weekend” on Saturday to discuss the incident, and he praised the agents on the ground for doing their jobs despite the ongoing protests and opposition from lawmakers.

Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who is also campaigning to be New Jersey’s next governor, has been protesting the ICE detention center since before it even opened. Earlier in the week, he had city officials park a bulldozer in front of the gate, blocking access to the facility.

Trump administration Border Czar Tom Homan on Saturday ripped Democrat Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for claiming he was supporting the rule of law when he trespassed at the Delaney Hall ICE detention facility.
Baraka was arrested and briefly detained on Friday for &#8220;storming&#8221; the facility, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/newark-mayor-arrested-after-dem-reps-storm-new-jersey-ice-facility-charge-past-security-officers" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Daily Wire</a> reported. The mayor and two other Democrats reportedly rushed into the center after gates were opened to allow a bus of apparent illegal criminals into the facility.
&#8220;We ask them to obey our laws, to obey the policies, the rules here, in the city and the state of New Jersey, not to run roughshod over the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, the 4th, 5th, the 14th Amendment, that everybody on this soil deserves due process,&#8221; Mayor Baraka said to the press on Friday.
&#8220;Well look, he&#8217;s not very smart,&#8221; Homan <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/video/6372630115112" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reacted</a> on Fox News. &#8220;The bottom line is, that is what this facility is all about. This facility is about due process. This facility is where we put illegal aliens &#8230; this is where due process happens. We have to detain them to go through the due process of, sometimes seeing a judge,&#8221; or other processes, like sending them back to their country.
Homan went on to criticize the Democrats for rushing the facility and putting safety and security at risk for the public, illegal immigrants, and others. &#8220;You don&#8217;t make an unauthorized entry while they&#8217;re moving a bus of criminals into the facility,&#8221; he said.
The border czar said people don&#8217;t have to support ICE, but they can&#8217;t &#8220;cross that line.&#8221;
&#8220;You can&#8217;t cross that line of impediment, you can&#8217;t cross that line of knowingly harboring, concealing illegal aliens, and you certainly can&#8217;t trespass in a facility that&#8217;s contracted by the U.S. government to house criminals,&#8221; he said. &#8220;That&#8217;d be like breaking into a prison, not going through the proper protocols. This creates a huge safety crisis.&#8221;
&#8220;This is about politics&#8221; for those Democrats, Homan continued. &#8220;They simply don&#8217;t want these people removed from this country. They don&#8217;t want immigration enforcement in this country.&#8221;
As highlighted by The Daily Wire, Baraka is currently campaigning to be New Jersey’s next governor and has been protesting the ICE facility since it opened.

Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on Friday following a security breach at Delaney Hall — a federal detention facility in Newark, New Jersey, that opened on May 1 and is being run by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — which also included several House Democrats.

Mayor Baraka, who is currently campaigning to be New Jersey&#8217;s next governor, has been protesting the facility since it opened and was ultimately detained by ICE for trespassing on Friday. &#8220;Delaney Hall cannot lawfully open in Newark at this time,&#8221; he said when it was first announced.
Attorney Alina Habba, who is currently the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey, released a statement regarding Baraka&#8217;s arrest:

&#8220;It was an act of intimidation not just to the mayor, not just to us, but to everyone who is watching. They feel no weight of the law. They feel no restraint on what they should be doing. And that was shown in broad daylight today,&#8221; Menendez said after ICE detained Baraka.
Earlier in the week, the city of Newark attempted to stall operations at the facility by parking a bulldozer in front of the entrance and blocking access to the gate.

DHS responded to the incident with a statement posted to X: &#8220;Today, as a bus of detainees was entering the security gate of Delaney Hall Detention Center, a group of protestors, including two members of US Congress, stormed the gate and broke into the detention facility. Newark Mayor Arrested After Dem Reps 'Storm' New Jersey ICE Facility, Charge Past Security Officers

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended the Milwaukee judge accused of helping an illegal immigrant evade federal agents until further notice. 
The court, which has a 4-3 liberal majority, said Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan would be temporarily relieved of duty while she faced federal charges. Dugan was arrested on Friday and charged with obstruction of a federal agency and concealing a person to help them avoid arrest. 
“The court has learned that Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah C. Dugan has been charged with two federal criminal offenses, one of which is a felony and one of which is a misdemeanor,” the court wrote in an order. &#8220;In the exercise of that constitutional authority and in order to uphold the public confidence in the court of this state during the pendency of the criminal proceeding against Judge Dugan, we conclude on our own motion that it is the public interest that she be temporarily relieved of her official duty.”
It added that Dugan would be “temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge in the State of Wisconsin” until further “order of the court.” 
Lawyers for Dugan said that they disagreed with the court’s decision. 
&#8220;We are disappointed that the Court acted in unilateral fashion,&#8221; they <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2025/04/29/wisconsin-supreme-court-suspends-judge-hannah-dugan-after-charges/83354123007/">said</a>. &#8220;We continue to assert Judge Dugan’s innocence and look forward to her vindication in court.&#8221;
Federal investigators <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25919655-1034-001-1-1/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">say</a> that Dugan helped Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, avoid arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement when he showed up at the Milwaukee County Court Complex. Flores-Ruiz was charged in Milwaukee with three counts of battery-domestic abuse-infliction of physical pain or injury. He was previously deported in 2013.
According to the FBI, six members of an ICE task force showed up at the courthouse on April 18 to arrest Flores-Ruiz, where they agreed to wait to arrest him until after his domestic abuse appearance. The FBI said that Dugan had been informed of the ICE agents’ presence and “became visibly angry” and called the situation ”absurd,” according to witness interviews.
After directing the arresting ICE team to the chambers of the chief judge, Dugan returned to her courtroom and told Flores-Ruiz to leave through the “jury door” into a non-public part of the courthouse, according to charging documents. Despite leaving the courtroom through the jury door, the ICE arresting team was able to track down Flores-Ruiz outside of the courthouse, where they arrested him after a foot chase.

Federal agents arrested a Venezuelan illegal alien who flaunted his stash of grenades on social media and is believed to be a leader of the vicious Tren de Aragua.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested Yonaiker Gallegos, who posed with an AR-15 and several grenades online, in Los Angeles County on Friday.
“On Tuesday evening April 22, 2025, HSI was able to locate Gallegos who was utilizing the false name Yoniaker Rafel MARTINEZ-RAMOS, who was in state custody in Los Angeles County on misdemeanor charges,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a <a href="https://x.com/BillMelugin_/status/1917040814745915616">statement</a> to Fox News.
The HSI National Gang Unit was able to identify the suspected Tren de Aragua leader as Yonaiker Gallegos after cross-referencing booking photos and social media images, using facial comparison tools to confirm his true identity. HSI successfully took Gallegos into custody for violations of Title 8, an immigration policy.
The arrest marks the latest crackdown by the Trump administration on the violent Venezuelan gang. The criminal enterprise was one of eight cartel and gang organizations <a href="https://www.state.gov/terrorist-designations-of-international-cartels/">designated</a> as a foreign terrorist organization by Trump’s State Department.

Trump’s Department of Justice recently charged 27 current and former suspected Tren de Aragua members under the Racketeering Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), leveraging a law best known for its use against the mafia against cartels. The charges, Attorney General Pam Bondi said, spanned three different states and “will devastate TdA’s infrastructure.”

Border crossings have dropped dramatically since Trump took office – according to the Department of Homeland Security, encounters at the border have fallen by 95%. Topline: Democratic lawmakers are stepping up their rhetoric against President Trump, with one presidential frontrunner being accused of inciting violence against Republicans.
Following the election, the big question for lawmakers on the Left was whether they should work to find common ground with Donald Trump and Republicans or oppose their every move. Polling shows the majority of the party’s voters now support the fight Trump approach, and lawmakers on the Left seem to be listening. At this point, that’s basically boilerplate rhetoric from the far-Left, but it’s a bit of a surprise coming from Governor Pritzker, a billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire who’s generally been considered more of a mainstream, establishment Democrat. In a sign that he’s looking to shake that label and prove his progressive credentials, Pritzker had a clear message for moderate Democrats who’ve taken the common-ground approach with Trump. “Do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on our defense of black people and trans kids and immigrants instead of their own lack of guts and gumption.”
“The Democrats have no plan, no vision, and no leader,” Congresswoman Lisa McClain, chair of the House Republican Conference, told Morning Wire. “And when you can’t beat us on the issues, you have to personalize it. … they can’t debate the issues because they’re on the wrong side of the issues.”
Some Democrats are urging the party to take a more unifying approach – notably California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has invited Right-leaning guests on his podcast and walked back some of his previous statements on gender issues. The problem for Newsom and other Democrats pushing that strategy is that they were on the record for years saying the exact opposite, so they now run the risk of looking like flip-floppers to moderates, and sellouts to progressives, who are the loudest contingent on the Left.
One silver lining for Democrats is that President Trump’s <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/approval-rating#google_vignette">approval rating</a> has taken a hit in recent weeks. Three polls from ABC, CNN, and The New York Times all show him at 42 or 43% — 12 to 14 points underwater. His biggest hit has come from his handling of the economy — an issue where he’s typically been most popular. CBS has him down to 42% approval on the economy &#8212; that’s a ten point dip in the last two months. NBC has him at 40%, and Washington Post shows him with just 39%. If those numbers don’t improve, Republicans could be facing an uphill battle in the midterms — the big question is if Democrats can unify and capitalize, or whether their divisions will lead to another crushing defeat.
<h2>The Judiciary vs The Executive</h2>

Topline: Federal judges stepped in and blocked several of President Trump’s executive orders last week. The court orders targeted Trump’s moves on elections, immigration, and his efforts to reform the federal government.
Last week, the Trump administration suffered several high-profile setbacks in the courts. On Tuesday, a judge in the D.C. Circuit ordered Trump to reinstate Voice of America employees while his order to deconstruct VoA and other federally-funded outlets moves forward. On Wednesday, a federal judge in Maryland ordered the Trump administration to seek the return of a second deported migrant – a 20-year-old Venezuelan national who was deported to El Salvador after he was convicted of drug charges earlier this year.
Then on Thursday, that same judge in Maryland blocked some of the Department of Education’s anti-DEI efforts. The judge said that the department’s guidance to universities to scrap DEI programs or risk losing federal funds violated the First Amendment. Another federal judge in D.C. blocked parts of Trump’s order on federal election reform – specifically parts that required a voter to prove citizenship in order to register for federal elections. That same day, a federal judge in California blocked the administration from withholding funds from cities it deemed “sanctuary” jurisdictions that refuse to work with deportation enforcement. Finally, to end the week, a federal judge in D.C. blocked the administration from banning unions across dozens of federal agencies.
Vice President JD Vance called it a “pattern” that “is not consistent with the Constitution.” As he explained on X, the “Biden administration does something the American people elected Donald Trump to undo,” but then a “lawless district court judge substitutes his policy preferences for the will of the people.” The administration is clearly frustrated with how these cases are playing out in court, and how consistently judges issue these sweeping orders that in many cases go way beyond whatever question the plaintiff sued over to begin with.
Meanwhile two judges have been <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-two-cases-involving-judicial-misconduct-and-obstruction-law">arrested on charges of obstruction of justice</a> after aiding and abetting illegal aliens in their attempts to evade immigration authorities.
<a href="https://x.com/charliekirk11/status/1915826498533310904">According to</a> Attorney General Pam Bondi, Judge Hannah Dugan of Wisconsin snuck a defendant, who had illegally entered the United States in 2013 and was facing charges of domestic violence, out of her courtroom when she learned ICE was outside waiting to pick him up. Former Judge Jose Luis Cano and his wife were arrested after allegedly sheltering a fugitive member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization. Cano and his wife were also charged with evidence tampering – according to the federal affidavit, Cano attempted to scrub the social media account of an alien tenant living on his property and went so far as to smash a cell phone with a hammer to prevent police from accessing its contents.

BOSTON—The Daily Wire joined U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Todd Lyons and his agents in Greater Boston as they hunted down criminal illegal aliens.
The operation comes as President Donald Trump marks his first 100 days in office, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/homan-does-indeed-bring-hell-to-boston-much-more-to-do-but-it-will-be-done" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Border Czar Tom Homan</a> vows to “go to Boston and bring hell with me” in an effort to arrest illegal aliens who have sexually assaulted children.
“We did more arrests in these 100 days than the previous administration did last year,” Lyons told The Daily Wire in his first interview.

Lyons became the acting director of ICE in March after five years as Boston Field Office Director. He said morale is at an all-time high following the Trump administration giving the support needed to remove illegal aliens.
ICE is focused on deporting the “worst of the worst” that the Biden administration ignored, like violent criminal illegal aliens or those who have been deported before.
“It’s the worst crime in the world when you sexually assault a child,” <a href="https://x.com/KassyAkiva/status/1916861488616133083" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Homan said</a> in a White House press briefing on Monday. “That’s why I made a statement that one time I was going to go to Boston and bring hell with me.”

During the ride-along on Friday, ICE arrested 55-year-old Miguel Angel Chavez, who was convicted on two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and deported in 2013. Chavez, a citizen of El Salvador, illegally re-entered the United States at an unknown place and time following his first deportation.

The second arrestee during the mission was 69-year-old Jose Lazaro Ayala, who illegally entered the country undetected and was convicted in September of leaving the scene of an accident involving an injured person or death. Ayala is pending removal to El Salvador, according to ICE.
“These aren&#8217;t the people you want in your neighborhood,” Lyons said. “These arrests right here show what we&#8217;ve done these first 100 days and what Secretary Noem and President Trump have been really pushing for: that ICE gets the worst of the worst.”
ICE was unable to target three other criminal illegal aliens in the mission, possibly because poor weather kept them from going to their outdoor jobs.

The Daily Wire witnessed firsthand the challenges ICE is facing in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-homan-biden-first-president-to-intentionally-leave-border-unsecured" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sanctuary jurisdictions</a> during the ride-along. According to Lyons, migrants are attracted to places like Massachusetts because of its generous social service benefits. Numerous sanctuary cities make deportations more difficult by often refusing to cooperate with ICE.
“One of the big difficulties operating in our sanctuary jurisdiction is that these are actual public safety threats,” he said. “A jail, a police department, a sheriff&#8217;s department, and state police have deemed these individuals a public safety threat and locked them up. Yet instead of working with the federal government, they decide to release them back on the street.”

Lyons said that in sanctuary jurisdictions, agents have to work harder to surveil targets and gather information about them to plan arrests.
“For these two today, anywhere between 40 to 80 hours could have been put in just on surveillance in research into these crimes, because, number one, there are ghosts,” he said.
“The state doesn&#8217;t provide us driver&#8217;s license data, registration data. So really, the men and women of ICE have to go and create these cases on their own and then get out there and do surveillance and try to get court and police records.”

By not working with ICE, sanctuary cities increase the number of deportations, according to Lyons. Instead of simply picking up criminal illegal aliens at jails, ICE is forced to track them down at their workplaces or in their neighborhoods. This often results in other illegal aliens — violent criminals or not — being arrested as well.

“With no doubt, ICE is helping the president establish his goals and his pledges that he made during the campaign, which was to get the worst of the worst outside of our communities, and I think this first hundred days have been a great success,” Lyons said.

Topline: President Trump traveled to Vatican City on Saturday for the first foreign trip of his new term, honoring Pope Francis and meeting face-to-face with Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders.
Before Pope Francis’s funeral began, Trump and Zelensky huddled with Britain&#8217;s Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron in St. Peter&#8217;s Basilica.  This was their first encounter since Zelensky’s contentious visit to the White House back in February, but this time there were no advisers, translators or video cameras. Zelensky called it a “very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic,” adding that he and Trump discussed a “full and unconditional ceasefire” and “reliable and lasting peace.”
Trump certainly seemed more pleased with Zelensky than before, writing on Truth Social that it was time for a high-level summit to “finish it off” — in his words, “most of the major points are agreed to.” Following that meeting, Trump also issued new warnings to Vladimir Putin. For months, Trump has been taking a more diplomatic approach with his Russian counterpart, but over the weekend the president took a rare public <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114404524335638236">shot</a> at Putin, writing on social media: “There [is] no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions?’ Too many people are dying!!!” 
Last week, the White House threatened to abandon the peace talks if the two sides didn’t show more willingness to negotiate, and that seemed to get things moving. On Friday, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Moscow for a three-hour meeting with Putin, which the Kremlin described as “constructive and quite useful” — in their words, the two sides had “narrowed differences.”
That same day, as a sign of their desire to make a deal, Ukraine reportedly sent the White House a new peace proposal that included a major concession — it would not demand all of its land back. In exchange, the Ukrainians are calling for guarantees of a U.S.-backed “European security contingent” to help preserve the peace. Ukraine also wants financial reparations paid for by frozen Russian assets in U.S. and European control.
Meanwhile: A snap election will determine the political future of Canada, and bilateral relations with the United States have been the leading issue. Former Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned after his poll numbers cratered – many felt his public sparring with Trump was the final nail in his coffin. Now, after two months in which Trump has threatened massive tariffs on Canada, and even floats the idea of acquiring the nation as the 51st U.S. state, the election has hinged on which party will stand up to Trump most effectively — to that point, 39% of Canadians say Trump was their top concern, that’s second behind only the cost of living. In the winter, it looked like Pierre Poilievre&#8217;s Conservative party would cruise to victory, but acting Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal party has surged in the polls on a promise to fight Trump. 
<h2>Pope Francis Laid To Rest</h2>

The atmosphere was one of reverence and profound emotion. An estimated 250,000 people filled the square and surrounding streets, with millions more watching worldwide to pay their respects. The funeral was a blend of ancient tradition and the simplicity Pope Francis championed. During his papacy, Francis chose to live in a simple guest house rather than the papal palace. He also lived without the internet, reading only one Italian newspaper a day, and vowed to give up television 30 years ago – he kept that vow until his death. His open wooden coffin, a departure from the elaborate triple-casket tradition, lay at ground level in St. Peter’s Basilica during three days of public viewing so he could be with the people rather than above them. He also chose to be buried in his old black shoes rather than the traditional elegant red shoes.
Saturday’s Mass was led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, whose homily called Francis “a pope among the people,” highlighting his warmth as the first pope from Latin America. He was also the first Jesuit pope. After the service, the coffin was carried in a modest procession to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Francis was laid to rest.
The funeral was a significant diplomatic gathering, with 170 foreign dignitaries present, including dozens of heads of state. Among them were President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, Ukrainian President Zelensky, French President Macron, and Argentine President Javier Milei, representing Francis’ native country. European royalty, including Britain’s Prince William, Spain’s King Felipe VI, and Queen Letizia, also attended. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi was seated prominently in the front row and praised Francis as a “symbol of human fraternity.” 
The College of Cardinals will begin the process of electing a new pope next month in a conclave held inside the Sistine Chapel. A conclave typically begins 15 to 20 days after the death of the previous pope, and only cardinals under the age of 80 can vote. There are currently 135 eligible cardinals, and their first meeting is scheduled for sometime between May 6 and May 11. A strict oath of secrecy is sworn by the cardinal electors, and they are not allowed to communicate with the outside world. When they&#8217;ve reached a two-thirds majority vote, they send a signal to the world with white smoke rising from the chapel.

Daily Wire reporter Kassy Akiva recently wrapped up a six-hour ride-along with national ICE Director Todd Lyons, where she joined agents from several other federal agencies, including the FBI, to arrest criminal illegal aliens in the Boston area. Director Lyons said while his team in Boston is highly effective, there are challenges in operating in a sanctuary jurisdiction – local governments essentially provide no help and often release criminal aliens on the street without giving ICE any warning.
“While ICE had five targets to arrest during our raid, only two were captured,” Akiva told Morning Wire. “While ICE surveils these criminals for days to determine the best way to approach them, sometimes things don’t go as planned. However, the two criminal aliens arrested while I was along for the operation are what Lyons describes as “the worst of the worst.” The first, a 55-year-old from El Salvador, Miguel Chauvez, is a convicted pedophile. The second, a 68-year-old, Jose Lazaro Ayalla, who was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving an injured person or death.
