The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Tuesday suspended the Milwaukee judge accused of helping an illegal immigrant evade federal agents until further notice. 
The court, which has a 4-3 liberal majority, said Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah Dugan would be temporarily relieved of duty while she faced federal charges. Dugan was arrested on Friday and charged with obstruction of a federal agency and concealing a person to help them avoid arrest. 
“The court has learned that Milwaukee County Circuit Court Judge Hannah C. Dugan has been charged with two federal criminal offenses, one of which is a felony and one of which is a misdemeanor,” the court wrote in an order. &#8220;In the exercise of that constitutional authority and in order to uphold the public confidence in the court of this state during the pendency of the criminal proceeding against Judge Dugan, we conclude on our own motion that it is the public interest that she be temporarily relieved of her official duty.”
It added that Dugan would be “temporarily prohibited from exercising the powers of a circuit court judge in the State of Wisconsin” until further “order of the court.” 
Lawyers for Dugan said that they disagreed with the court’s decision. 
&#8220;We are disappointed that the Court acted in unilateral fashion,&#8221; they <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/politics/2025/04/29/wisconsin-supreme-court-suspends-judge-hannah-dugan-after-charges/83354123007/">said</a>. &#8220;We continue to assert Judge Dugan’s innocence and look forward to her vindication in court.&#8221;
Federal investigators <a href="https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25919655-1034-001-1-1/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">say</a> that Dugan helped Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, avoid arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement when he showed up at the Milwaukee County Court Complex. Flores-Ruiz was charged in Milwaukee with three counts of battery-domestic abuse-infliction of physical pain or injury. He was previously deported in 2013.
According to the FBI, six members of an ICE task force showed up at the courthouse on April 18 to arrest Flores-Ruiz, where they agreed to wait to arrest him until after his domestic abuse appearance. The FBI said that Dugan had been informed of the ICE agents’ presence and “became visibly angry” and called the situation ”absurd,” according to witness interviews.
After directing the arresting ICE team to the chambers of the chief judge, Dugan returned to her courtroom and told Flores-Ruiz to leave through the “jury door” into a non-public part of the courthouse, according to charging documents. Despite leaving the courtroom through the jury door, the ICE arresting team was able to track down Flores-Ruiz outside of the courthouse, where they arrested him after a foot chase.

Federal agents arrested a Venezuelan illegal alien who flaunted his stash of grenades on social media and is believed to be a leader of the vicious Tren de Aragua.
Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) arrested Yonaiker Gallegos, who posed with an AR-15 and several grenades online, in Los Angeles County on Friday.
“On Tuesday evening April 22, 2025, HSI was able to locate Gallegos who was utilizing the false name Yoniaker Rafel MARTINEZ-RAMOS, who was in state custody in Los Angeles County on misdemeanor charges,” the Department of Homeland Security said in a <a href="https://x.com/BillMelugin_/status/1917040814745915616">statement</a> to Fox News.
The HSI National Gang Unit was able to identify the suspected Tren de Aragua leader as Yonaiker Gallegos after cross-referencing booking photos and social media images, using facial comparison tools to confirm his true identity. HSI successfully took Gallegos into custody for violations of Title 8, an immigration policy.
The arrest marks the latest crackdown by the Trump administration on the violent Venezuelan gang. The criminal enterprise was one of eight cartel and gang organizations <a href="https://www.state.gov/terrorist-designations-of-international-cartels/">designated</a> as a foreign terrorist organization by Trump’s State Department.
A multi-agency raid over the weekend resulted in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/multi-agency-raid-hits-tren-de-aragua-hotspot-officials-take-more-than-100-into-custody?author=Virginia+Kruta&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Multi-Agency+Raid+Hits+Tren+De+Aragua+Hotspot%3A+Officials+Take+More+Than+100+Into+Custody">capture</a> of over 100 illegal aliens at an underground nightclub in Colorado that authorities say was being used by Tren de Aragua members. The raid, which was carried out by agents from the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Drug Enforcement Agency, and even the United States Postal Service and IRS, also resulted in the seizure of drugs and weapons.
Trump’s Department of Justice recently charged 27 current and former suspected Tren de Aragua members under the Racketeering Influence and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), leveraging a law best known for its use against the mafia against cartels. The charges, Attorney General Pam Bondi said, spanned three different states and “will devastate TdA’s infrastructure.”

Topline: The White House is celebrating 100 days of  Donald Trump’s presidency – and a huge part of its focus is on securing the border.
The White House has placed roughly 100 posters of deported illegal aliens and their various criminal offenses in plain view of the White House lawn to highlight the administration’s efforts to secure the border and deport illegal aliens, prioritizing individuals with particularly serious criminal histories.
&#8220;I started in Border Patrol in 1984,” Border Czar Tom Homan <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1916837072322638274">said</a> in a White House press conference on Monday. “I&#8217;ve been at this for over 40 years. I&#8217;ve worked for six presidents. &#8230; Joe Biden was the first president in the history of this nation who came into office and unsecured the border on purpose. … Now, President Trump and this administration, the success is unprecedented … border numbers are at historic lows.”
Border crossings have dropped dramatically since Trump took office – according to the Department of Homeland Security, encounters at the border have fallen by 95%. Members of the administration credit the close collaboration of several departments, including the Department of Defense, the Department of Justice, and the Department of Homeland Security for the rapid turnaround.

Topline: Democratic lawmakers are stepping up their rhetoric against President Trump, with one presidential frontrunner being accused of inciting violence against Republicans.
Following the election, the big question for lawmakers on the Left was whether they should work to find common ground with Donald Trump and Republicans or oppose their every move. Polling shows the majority of the party’s voters now support the fight Trump approach, and lawmakers on the Left seem to be listening. This week, Illinois Governor JD Pritzker turned heads at a speech to Democrats in New Hampshire.
 “Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption, but I am now,” Pritzker said. “These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace!”
At this point, that’s basically boilerplate rhetoric from the far-Left, but it’s a bit of a surprise coming from Governor Pritzker, a billionaire heir to the Hyatt Hotel empire who’s generally been considered more of a mainstream, establishment Democrat. In a sign that he’s looking to shake that label and prove his progressive credentials, Pritzker had a clear message for moderate Democrats who’ve taken the common-ground approach with Trump. “Do-nothing Democrats want to blame our losses on our defense of black people and trans kids and immigrants instead of their own lack of guts and gumption.”
“The Democrats have no plan, no vision, and no leader,” Congresswoman Lisa McClain, chair of the House Republican Conference, told Morning Wire. “And when you can’t beat us on the issues, you have to personalize it. … they can’t debate the issues because they’re on the wrong side of the issues.”
Some Democrats are urging the party to take a more unifying approach – notably California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has invited Right-leaning guests on his podcast and walked back some of his previous statements on gender issues. The problem for Newsom and other Democrats pushing that strategy is that they were on the record for years saying the exact opposite, so they now run the risk of looking like flip-floppers to moderates, and sellouts to progressives, who are the loudest contingent on the Left.
One silver lining for Democrats is that President Trump’s <a href="https://www.realclearpolling.com/polls/approval/donald-trump/approval-rating#google_vignette">approval rating</a> has taken a hit in recent weeks. Three polls from ABC, CNN, and The New York Times all show him at 42 or 43% — 12 to 14 points underwater. His biggest hit has come from his handling of the economy — an issue where he’s typically been most popular. CBS has him down to 42% approval on the economy &#8212; that’s a ten point dip in the last two months. NBC has him at 40%, and Washington Post shows him with just 39%. If those numbers don’t improve, Republicans could be facing an uphill battle in the midterms — the big question is if Democrats can unify and capitalize, or whether their divisions will lead to another crushing defeat.
<h2>The Judiciary vs The Executive</h2>

Topline: Federal judges stepped in and blocked several of President Trump’s executive orders last week. The court orders targeted Trump’s moves on elections, immigration, and his efforts to reform the federal government.
Last week, the Trump administration suffered several high-profile setbacks in the courts. On Tuesday, a judge in the D.C. Circuit ordered Trump to reinstate Voice of America employees while his order to deconstruct VoA and other federally-funded outlets moves forward. On Wednesday, a federal judge in Maryland ordered the Trump administration to seek the return of a second deported migrant – a 20-year-old Venezuelan national who was deported to El Salvador after he was convicted of drug charges earlier this year.
Then on Thursday, that same judge in Maryland blocked some of the Department of Education’s anti-DEI efforts. The judge said that the department’s guidance to universities to scrap DEI programs or risk losing federal funds violated the First Amendment. Another federal judge in D.C. blocked parts of Trump’s order on federal election reform – specifically parts that required a voter to prove citizenship in order to register for federal elections. That same day, a federal judge in California blocked the administration from withholding funds from cities it deemed “sanctuary” jurisdictions that refuse to work with deportation enforcement. Finally, to end the week, a federal judge in D.C. blocked the administration from banning unions across dozens of federal agencies.
Vice President JD Vance called it a “pattern” that “is not consistent with the Constitution.” As he explained on X, the “Biden administration does something the American people elected Donald Trump to undo,” but then a “lawless district court judge substitutes his policy preferences for the will of the people.” The administration is clearly frustrated with how these cases are playing out in court, and how consistently judges issue these sweeping orders that in many cases go way beyond whatever question the plaintiff sued over to begin with.
Meanwhile two judges have been <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-announces-two-cases-involving-judicial-misconduct-and-obstruction-law">arrested on charges of obstruction of justice</a> after aiding and abetting illegal aliens in their attempts to evade immigration authorities.
<a href="https://x.com/charliekirk11/status/1915826498533310904">According to</a> Attorney General Pam Bondi, Judge Hannah Dugan of Wisconsin snuck a defendant, who had illegally entered the United States in 2013 and was facing charges of domestic violence, out of her courtroom when she learned ICE was outside waiting to pick him up. Former Judge Jose Luis Cano and his wife were arrested after allegedly sheltering a fugitive member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization. Cano and his wife were also charged with evidence tampering – according to the federal affidavit, Cano attempted to scrub the social media account of an alien tenant living on his property and went so far as to smash a cell phone with a hammer to prevent police from accessing its contents.

BOSTON—The Daily Wire joined U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Acting Director Todd Lyons and his agents in Greater Boston as they hunted down criminal illegal aliens.
The operation comes as President Donald Trump marks his first 100 days in office, and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/homan-does-indeed-bring-hell-to-boston-much-more-to-do-but-it-will-be-done" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Border Czar Tom Homan</a> vows to “go to Boston and bring hell with me” in an effort to arrest illegal aliens who have sexually assaulted children.
“We did more arrests in these 100 days than the previous administration did last year,” Lyons told The Daily Wire in his first interview.

Lyons became the acting director of ICE in March after five years as Boston Field Office Director. He said morale is at an all-time high following the Trump administration giving the support needed to remove illegal aliens.
ICE is focused on deporting the “worst of the worst” that the Biden administration ignored, like violent criminal illegal aliens or those who have been deported before.
“It’s the worst crime in the world when you sexually assault a child,” <a href="https://x.com/KassyAkiva/status/1916861488616133083" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Homan said</a> in a White House press briefing on Monday. “That’s why I made a statement that one time I was going to go to Boston and bring hell with me.”

During the ride-along on Friday, ICE arrested 55-year-old Miguel Angel Chavez, who was convicted on two counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 and deported in 2013. Chavez, a citizen of El Salvador, illegally re-entered the United States at an unknown place and time following his first deportation.

The second arrestee during the mission was 69-year-old Jose Lazaro Ayala, who illegally entered the country undetected and was convicted in September of leaving the scene of an accident involving an injured person or death. Ayala is pending removal to El Salvador, according to ICE.
“These aren&#8217;t the people you want in your neighborhood,” Lyons said. “These arrests right here show what we&#8217;ve done these first 100 days and what Secretary Noem and President Trump have been really pushing for: that ICE gets the worst of the worst.”
ICE was unable to target three other criminal illegal aliens in the mission, possibly because poor weather kept them from going to their outdoor jobs.

The Daily Wire witnessed firsthand the challenges ICE is facing in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tom-homan-biden-first-president-to-intentionally-leave-border-unsecured" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sanctuary jurisdictions</a> during the ride-along. According to Lyons, migrants are attracted to places like Massachusetts because of its generous social service benefits. Numerous sanctuary cities make deportations more difficult by often refusing to cooperate with ICE.
“One of the big difficulties operating in our sanctuary jurisdiction is that these are actual public safety threats,” he said. “A jail, a police department, a sheriff&#8217;s department, and state police have deemed these individuals a public safety threat and locked them up. Yet instead of working with the federal government, they decide to release them back on the street.”

Lyons said that in sanctuary jurisdictions, agents have to work harder to surveil targets and gather information about them to plan arrests.
“For these two today, anywhere between 40 to 80 hours could have been put in just on surveillance in research into these crimes, because, number one, there are ghosts,” he said.
“The state doesn&#8217;t provide us driver&#8217;s license data, registration data. So really, the men and women of ICE have to go and create these cases on their own and then get out there and do surveillance and try to get court and police records.”

By not working with ICE, sanctuary cities increase the number of deportations, according to Lyons. Instead of simply picking up criminal illegal aliens at jails, ICE is forced to track them down at their workplaces or in their neighborhoods. This often results in other illegal aliens — violent criminals or not — being arrested as well.

Topline: President Trump traveled to Vatican City on Saturday for the first foreign trip of his new term, honoring Pope Francis and meeting face-to-face with Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders.
Before Pope Francis’s funeral began, Trump and Zelensky huddled with Britain&#8217;s Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron in St. Peter&#8217;s Basilica.  This was their first encounter since Zelensky’s contentious visit to the White House back in February, but this time there were no advisers, translators or video cameras. Zelensky called it a “very symbolic meeting that has potential to become historic,” adding that he and Trump discussed a “full and unconditional ceasefire” and “reliable and lasting peace.”
Trump certainly seemed more pleased with Zelensky than before, writing on Truth Social that it was time for a high-level summit to “finish it off” — in his words, “most of the major points are agreed to.” Following that meeting, Trump also issued new warnings to Vladimir Putin. For months, Trump has been taking a more diplomatic approach with his Russian counterpart, but over the weekend the president took a rare public <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/114404524335638236">shot</a> at Putin, writing on social media: “There [is] no reason for Putin to be shooting missiles into civilian areas, cities and towns, over the last few days. It makes me think that maybe he doesn’t want to stop the war, he’s just tapping me along, and has to be dealt with differently, through ‘Banking’ or ‘Secondary Sanctions?’ Too many people are dying!!!” 
Last week, the White House threatened to abandon the peace talks if the two sides didn’t show more willingness to negotiate, and that seemed to get things moving. On Friday, Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Moscow for a three-hour meeting with Putin, which the Kremlin described as “constructive and quite useful” — in their words, the two sides had “narrowed differences.”
That same day, as a sign of their desire to make a deal, Ukraine reportedly sent the White House a new peace proposal that included a major concession — it would not demand all of its land back. In exchange, the Ukrainians are calling for guarantees of a U.S.-backed “European security contingent” to help preserve the peace. Ukraine also wants financial reparations paid for by frozen Russian assets in U.S. and European control.
Meanwhile: A snap election will determine the political future of Canada, and bilateral relations with the United States have been the leading issue. Former Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau resigned after his poll numbers cratered – many felt his public sparring with Trump was the final nail in his coffin. Now, after two months in which Trump has threatened massive tariffs on Canada, and even floats the idea of acquiring the nation as the 51st U.S. state, the election has hinged on which party will stand up to Trump most effectively — to that point, 39% of Canadians say Trump was their top concern, that’s second behind only the cost of living. In the winter, it looked like Pierre Poilievre&#8217;s Conservative party would cruise to victory, but acting Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal party has surged in the polls on a promise to fight Trump.

The atmosphere was one of reverence and profound emotion. An estimated 250,000 people filled the square and surrounding streets, with millions more watching worldwide to pay their respects. The funeral was a blend of ancient tradition and the simplicity Pope Francis championed. During his papacy, Francis chose to live in a simple guest house rather than the papal palace. He also lived without the internet, reading only one Italian newspaper a day, and vowed to give up television 30 years ago – he kept that vow until his death. His open wooden coffin, a departure from the elaborate triple-casket tradition, lay at ground level in St. Peter’s Basilica during three days of public viewing so he could be with the people rather than above them. He also chose to be buried in his old black shoes rather than the traditional elegant red shoes.
Saturday’s Mass was led by Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, whose homily called Francis “a pope among the people,” highlighting his warmth as the first pope from Latin America. He was also the first Jesuit pope. After the service, the coffin was carried in a modest procession to the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, where Francis was laid to rest.
The funeral was a significant diplomatic gathering, with 170 foreign dignitaries present, including dozens of heads of state. Among them were President Trump and first lady Melania Trump, Ukrainian President Zelensky, French President Macron, and Argentine President Javier Milei, representing Francis’ native country. European royalty, including Britain’s Prince William, Spain’s King Felipe VI, and Queen Letizia, also attended. The Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi was seated prominently in the front row and praised Francis as a “symbol of human fraternity.” 
The College of Cardinals will begin the process of electing a new pope next month in a conclave held inside the Sistine Chapel. A conclave typically begins 15 to 20 days after the death of the previous pope, and only cardinals under the age of 80 can vote. There are currently 135 eligible cardinals, and their first meeting is scheduled for sometime between May 6 and May 11. A strict oath of secrecy is sworn by the cardinal electors, and they are not allowed to communicate with the outside world. When they&#8217;ve reached a two-thirds majority vote, they send a signal to the world with white smoke rising from the chapel.

Daily Wire reporter Kassy Akiva recently wrapped up a six-hour ride-along with national ICE Director Todd Lyons, where she joined agents from several other federal agencies, including the FBI, to arrest criminal illegal aliens in the Boston area. Director Lyons said while his team in Boston is highly effective, there are challenges in operating in a sanctuary jurisdiction – local governments essentially provide no help and often release criminal aliens on the street without giving ICE any warning.
“While ICE had five targets to arrest during our raid, only two were captured,” Akiva told Morning Wire. “While ICE surveils these criminals for days to determine the best way to approach them, sometimes things don’t go as planned. However, the two criminal aliens arrested while I was along for the operation are what Lyons describes as “the worst of the worst.” The first, a 55-year-old from El Salvador, Miguel Chauvez, is a convicted pedophile. The second, a 68-year-old, Jose Lazaro Ayalla, who was charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving an injured person or death.

FBI Director Kash Patel said on Friday that federal agents arrested a Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, judge who is suspected of helping an illegal immigrant from Mexico evade Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers.
Last week, ICE agents showed up at a Milwaukee County Courthouse to arrest a Mexican citizen after a hearing before Judge Hannah Dugan. The judge directed ICE agents to wait in Chief Judge Carl Ashley&#8217;s office and then told the defendant to exit the courtroom through a side door, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/local/2025/04/25/fbi-investigating-allegations-that-milwaukee-judge-helped-an-immigrant-avoid-ice-arrest-dugan/83250128007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
&#8220;We believe Judge Dugan intentionally misdirected federal agents away from the subject to be arrested in her courthouse, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, allowing the subject — an illegal alien — to evade arrest,&#8221; Patel said in a post that was initially deleted. &#8220;Thankfully, our agents chased down the perp on foot and he’s been in custody since, but the Judge’s obstruction created increased danger to the public.&#8221; It was not immediately clear why Patel chose to initially delete the post, but he <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/1915800907318468626?t=HrEySSHIGQFX5NqPMVpOpQ&amp;s=19">reposted</a> the same statement a short while later.
The FBI director added that the bureau would share more information &#8220;soon&#8221; and thanked the FBI&#8217;s Milwaukee field office for its work in arresting the judge.
United States Attorney General Pam Bondi also confirmed Dugan&#8217;s arrest in a<a href="https://x.com/AGPamBondi/status/1915799429455516128?t=8UTJOJOvUBSzY_rn896eDg&amp;s=19"> post</a> to X, stating, &#8220;I can confirm that our @FBI agents just arrested Hannah Dugan – a county judge in Milwaukee – for allegedly helping an illegal alien avoid an arrest by @ICEgov. No one is above the law.&#8221; 
According to Chief Judge Ashley, who sent an email to other judges about the incident, ICE agents showed a warrant for the illegal immigrant&#8217;s arrest and followed courthouse protocols. Dugan, who has served on the bench for nine years, responded to that email, however, saying &#8220;a warrant was not presented&#8221; to her.
ICE agents have <a href="https://www.jsonline.com/story/news/breaking/2025/04/25/milwaukee-county-judge-hannah-dugan-arrested-by-feds-at-courthouse/83270885007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">routinely</a> shown up at the Milwaukee County Courthouse in recent weeks with arrest warrants. In the past two months, two suspected illegal immigrants were arrested by federal agents in the courthouse hallways.
During Trump&#8217;s first term in office, a Massachusetts judge was <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/25/us/politics/fbi-arrest-judge.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">charged</a> by the Justice Department with obstructing immigration agents after she and a court officer allegedly helped an illegal immigrant sneak out the back door of the courthouse. The federal government later dropped the charges after the judge agreed to go through potential judicial discipline.

FBI Arrests Judge Accused Of ‘Intentionally’ Misdirecting ICE Agents Away From Illegal Immigrant

Federal agents arrested a former New Mexico Democrat judge and his wife on Thursday after they were accused of harboring a suspected member of Tren de Aragua at their home. 
Former Dona Ana County Magistrate Judge Jose “Joel” Cano and his wife, Nancy, were taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement at their home in Las Cruces, KFOX14 <a href="https://kfoxtv.com/news/local/home-of-ex-judge-raided-after-claims-of-hosting-tren-de-aragua-gang-member-in-las-cruces-cristhian-ortega-lopez-dona-ana-county-venezuela-joel-cano-nancy-tda-nm-hsi-homeland-security" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Both the 67-year-old former judge and his wife are <a href="https://apps.donaanacounty.org/www/sites/all/modules/dac/dac_inmates/dac_create_pdf.php?&amp;GCode=4&amp;FelonID=2500003171&amp;FelonPIC=387831&amp;CurrentFlag=0">charged</a> with tampering with evidence. 
The couple is currently in custody at the Dona Ana County Jail, awaiting their appearance in federal court. They were arrested as part of a probe by Homeland Security Investigations into their association with 23-year-old Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, who authorities say is linked to Tren de Aragua, a Venezuelan gang that has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration. Ortega-Lopez was arrested at the Canos&#8217; home in February. 
“Under President Trump, we have arrested over 150,000 aliens—including more than 600 members of the vicious Tren de Aragua gang,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem <a href="https://x.com/Sec_Noem/status/1915559976229052564">said</a>, commenting on the arrest. “If you are here illegally and break the law, we will hunt you down, arrest you and lock you up. That’s a promise.”
Cano resigned from his judgeship earlier this week and was banned by the New Mexico Supreme Court from holding any judicial office again. The court <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/new-mexico-supreme-court-bans-judge-after-alleged-tda-member-arrested-home">ordered</a> that Cano “shall never again hold, become a candidate for, run for, or stand for election to any New Mexico judicial office in the future.”
Ortega-Lopez, originally from Venezuela, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-judge-resigns-after-harboring-alleged-tren-de-aragua-gang-member" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was accused</a> of illegal entry to the United States near Eagle Pass, Texas. He spent three days in Border Patrol custody before he was released because of overcrowded facilities at the Border Patrol’s South Laredo, Texas, processing center, according to court records, the Albuquerque Journal <a href="https://www.abqjournal.com/news/article_47926b51-d481-4aa9-8d76-5de8cc13809b.html?fbclid=IwY2xjawJwuu9leHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHn4jO0OhVrwODcJdaJgEwwkzhtKl5MdUs320h3z25_0FkfgnT9xnpoaAox6a_aem_F7zjdLNkrsY9LSG6RfZRmA">reported</a>. He met Nancy in El Paso, where he was working as a construction worker and handyman, and she offered for him to stay in a small house behind their home.
Ortega-Lopez has been charged with being an unlawful alien in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and is seen in court documents holding guns.
Cano has denied any knowledge of the suspected ties between Ortega-Lopez and Tren De Aragua. Investigators have said that they have text messages and voice mail messages that confirm the links to the notorious gang.
“Let me be as crystal clear as possible,” Cano <a href="https://www.koat.com/article/las-cruces-former-judge-allegations-gang-new-mexico/64583129" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> the New Mexico Supreme Court. “The very first time I ever heard that the boys could possibly have any association with Tren de Aragua was when I was informed of that by [the] agents on the day of the raid.”

A federal judge has ordered the Trump administration to facilitate the return of a second illegal alien who the Trump administration deported to El Salvador and says is a gang member.
United States District Court Judge Stephanie Gallagher <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-judge-orders-return-second-migrant-deported-el-salvador-2025-04-24/">issued the decision</a> Wednesday, ruling that the deportation of the Venezuelan national violated a previous court settlement. Gallagher argued that a settlement agreement she approved in November on behalf of thousands of migrants required the man’s asylum case to be heard before he was deported.
“A core purpose of the Settlement Agreement would be nullified if Class Members with pending asylum applications could be summarily removed from the United States and thus rendered ineligible for asylum,” Gallagher said as she addressed the case of the Venezuelan national, identified only as Cristian.
The Trump administration argues that Cristian’s deportation did not violate federal law, as it had invoked the 1798 Alien Enemies act, thereby making the Venezuelan national ineligible to receive asylum and remain in the United States.
The administration is also locked in a battle with United States District Court Judge James Boasberg, who recently <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftist-judge-threatens-to-hold-trump-admin-in-criminal-contempt-of-court-over-deportation-flights?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=8&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Liberal+Judge+Threatens+To+Hold+Trump+Admin+In+Criminal+Contempt+Of+Court+Over+Deportation+Flights">threatened</a> to hold the Trump administration in contempt of court over its use of the Alien Enemies Act to expedite the removal of more than 250 suspected gang members to the El Salvadoran prison.
The new ruling from Gallagher comes after a different judge ordered the Trump administration to facilitate the return of El Salvadoran national Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who the White House says is a member of MS-13.
Salvadoran president Nayib Bukele said that he had no intention of returning Garcia to the United States. “How can I smuggle a terrorist into the United States?” Bukele said in response to a journalist while meeting with Trump in the White House, also adding that he also will not release him from El Salvador’s Terrorism Confinement Center.
“I’m not very fond of releasing terrorists into our country … we just turned the murder capital of the world into the safest country in the western hemisphere and you want us to go back?” Bukele noted. “That’s not going to happen.”

Baltimore Judge Gets In The Way Of Another Trump Gang Member Deportation

The Trump administration’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested more than 1,000 illegal alien workers and is proposing fines against businesses that have used illegal labor.
ICE and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) announced Wednesday that they have taken historic actions against illegal alien workers, and against the businesses profiting from illegal alien labor.
“This is the highest rate of arrest in HSI’s history,” HSI acting Executive Associate Director Robert Hammer <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ice-arrests-over-1k-illegal-workers-proposes-1m-fines">explained</a>. “We’ve subpoenaed the business records of about 1,200 businesses, and as part of our review, we’ve proposed close to $1 million in fines.”
He also railed against businesses that use illegal labor. “Businesses that exploit and hire illegal workers are harming the American public,” Hammer charged. “ICE’s statutory duties include protecting Americans and enforcing more than 400 laws that relate to immigration, so there are two aspects to our worksite enforcement operations.”
The agency says it has increased its workplace enforcement efforts in the past two months.
“On April 2, we filed a civil complaint against a Chinese money laundering organization that orders the multimillion-dollar seizure of 14 properties, seven bank accounts and 15 vehicles,” ICE Detroit acting Special Agent in Charge Jared Murphey said. The agency alleges that the money laundering ring operated a staffing company that supplied illegal alien labor to an Ohio factory.
ICE also recently captured 37 illegal aliens working at a roofing company in Washington state. The federal agency says that the aliens “fraudulently represented their immigration status and submitted fraudulent documents” in order to gain employment.
That raid came after ICE and HSI <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ice-and-homeland-security-busts-8-illegal-aliens-and-the-business-owners-they-say-harbored-them">arrested</a> eight illegal aliens at a workplace raid at a bakery in Texas’ Rio Grande Valley. The raid also resulted in the arrest of the two owners of the business, who allegedly hired the employees despite knowing that they were in the country illegally.
Immigration experts have also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-one-simple-trick-that-could-lead-illegal-immigrants-to-self-deport?author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=16&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=The+One+Simple+Trick+That+Could+Lead+Illegal+Immigrants+To+Self-Deport">explained</a> that a national E-Verify mandate could prevent illegal aliens from obtaining jobs, thus encouraging them to self-deport en masse.
“It would make it much more difficult to get work. It would mean that a significant number of people would…opt not to come here illegally or even decide to go home,” Mark Krikorian, the Executive Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, told The Daily Wire.
Ira Mehlman, the Media Director of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), explained that an E-Verify mandate would remove the biggest incentive that illegal aliens have to come into the country.
“The vast majority of illegal aliens — especially the ones who arrived during the Biden administration — are economic migrants. Their strongest motivation for coming here was the ability to find a job and better wages,” he said. “If employers were mandated to use E-Verify and the government demonstrated the resolve to hold employers accountable, that would go a long way toward drying up the supply of jobs for illegal aliens, thereby eliminating the biggest incentive to come or remain here illegally.”
One recent FAIR study estimated that there are 18.6 million illegal aliens present in the United States, presenting a seismic challenge for immigration enforcement authorities. “There’s no question that a large part, and maybe most, of any reduction in the illegal population has to come through self deportation,” Krikorian noted.

Trump’s ICE Arrests 1,000 Illegal Workers, Pushes For Fines On Businesses Using Illegal Labor

New York City Mayor Eric Adams&#8217; administration on Tuesday reversed a decade-long sanctuary policy by allowing ICE to resume operations at Rikers Island jail to target criminal gangs and drug trafficking.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) previously had a presence on the detention island along with other federal law enforcement agencies, with Rikers frequently transferring illegal immigrants into federal custody for deportation.
However, ICE was evicted from the notorious island in 2014 by the city’s sanctuary city law, effectively prohibiting any cooperation between the prison and federal law enforcement in deporting criminal aliens.
The executive order, <a href="https://www.nyc.gov/assets/home/downloads/pdf/executive-orders/2025/eo-50.pdf">issued</a> Tuesday, authorizes ICE&#8217;s Homeland Security Investigations division to establish an office at Rikers to collaborate on targeting violent criminals, gangs, and drug trafficking, according to ABC News.
“It is critical that federal law enforcement agencies are able to share intelligence with the Department of Correction and NYPD in real-time about criminal gang activity among individuals both inside and outside of DOC custody,” the order states.
The order also extends office space to other federal agencies including the FBI, ATF, DEA, and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Adams <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/nyc-lets-immigration-officials-open-office-rikers-jail-120648909">announced</a> plans to allow ICE agents to resume operations at Rikers in February following a meeting with Trump border czar Tom Homan, according to ABC News.

&#8220;We cannot collaborate with ICE on civil enforcement, but we can for criminal enforcement. That is what we are doing,&#8221; Adams explained during a radio interview Wednesday. &#8220;That&#8217;s in complete conformity with the law.&#8221;
Adams&#8217; decision marks a significant shift in how one of America&#8217;s largest sanctuary cities approaches collaboration with federal immigration enforcement, even as Rikers is still barred from cooperating with ICE in the realm of civil enforcement.
The Rikers Island jail complex, located on an isolated island in the East River, has long suffered from disorder and neglect and currently <a href="https://apnews.com/article/rikers-island-jail-reform-contempt-reform-nyc-57d73548e61a28675e80ac0a2d927064">faces</a> a possible federal takeover.
Under the new executive order, ICE&#8217;s Homeland Security Investigations division will focus specifically on transnational crime at the facility, working with city corrections officials on criminal investigations and &#8220;related intelligence sharing&#8221; efforts targeting violent criminals, gangs, crimes committed in jails, and drug trafficking.
First Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro, who issued the order, emphasized that this arrangement mirrors Rikers&#8217; relationship with ICE that existed pre-2014.
&#8220;This is about public safety and protecting all New Yorkers,&#8221; Mastro said in a statement.
When questioned about the timing of this decision coming shortly after federal prosecutors dropped corruption charges against him, Mayor Adams firmly rejected any connection. &#8220;There is no beholdening,&#8221; he stated during a Wednesday radio interview with WINS.

The Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will fine migrants nearly $1,000 every day they stay in the United States past the date of their deportation order.
The Trump DHS will enforce a 1996 law that allows it to impose a fine of $998 on migrants for every day they stay past the date of their removal order. The administration <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-plans-fine-migrants-998-100644909.html">says</a> it will enforce the penalties retroactively to cover up to five years, resulting in fines of more than $1 million against offenders.
The government could even seize the assets of migrants who refuse to leave the United States on their own accord despite having an order of removal.
U.S. Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin explained that migrants can inform the government of their intent to depart the country via the Customs and Border Patrol <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-admin-transforms-bidens-cbp-one-app-leave-now-and-self-deport">Home app, </a>an overhauled version of the CBP One app that the Biden administration used to streamline the flow of migrants into the United States.
“If they don’t, they will face the consequences,” McLaughlin charged. “This includes a fine of $998 per day for every day that the illegal alien overstayed their final deportation order.”
The fines could affect roughly 1.4 million illegal aliens who currently have active removal orders. The administration is <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-plans-fine-migrants-998-100644909.html">reportedly</a> encouraging Customs and Border Protection to administer the financial penalties and the seizure of property, though the Department of Justice’s civil asset forfeitures division could also be employed.
Scott Shuchart, a former Immigration and Customs Enforcement policy official under the Biden administration, said that the fines can be challenged by migrants in court, but that the risk of fines will “project fear” among illegal aliens.
The measure from the Trump administration is the latest method that the Republican president is using to encourage the voluntary departure of illegal aliens from the United States. Immigration experts recently told The Daily Wire that the Trump administration and his allies in Congress could effectively encourage self-deportations by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-one-simple-trick-that-could-lead-illegal-immigrants-to-self-deport?row=0&amp;elementPosition=5&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;author=Spencer+Lindquist&amp;title=The+One+Simple+Trick+That+Could+Lead+Illegal+Immigrants+To+Self-Deport&amp;category=News">mandating</a> a national employment verification process called E-Verify, which aims to prevent illegal aliens from illegally obtaining jobs with American employers.

Trump Admin To Fine Illegal Aliens Nearly $1K A Day For Refusing To Self-Deport

The Trump administration has until Monday at 11:59 p.m. ET to return a man it mistakenly deported to El Salvador to the United States, a federal judge reiterated on Sunday.
Last week, U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis set the deadline for the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia for Monday, prompting the Justice Department to ask the judge for a delay while the administration appealed her order. Xinis denied the request, leaving the Monday deadline in place, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/maryland-man-kilmar-abrego-garcia-deported-to-el-salvador-rcna199831" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Abrego Garcia, 29, a Salvadoran man who was living in Maryland, was arrested by federal agents on March 12 and sent to El Salvador on one of the Trump administration&#8217;s deportation flights. Based on a judge&#8217;s order in 2019, however, the United States was barred from deporting Abrego Garcia back to his home country, acknowledging that he would likely face persecution or torture.
Judge Xinis wrote on Sunday that the federal government arrested the Salvadoran &#8220;without any lawful authority&#8221; and handed him over to &#8220;his persecutors.&#8221;
“Defendants seized Abrego Garcia without any lawful authority; held him in three separate domestic detention centers without legal basis; failed to present him to any immigration judge or office; and forcibly transported him to El Salvador,” the judge wrote. “Once there, U.S. officials secured his detention in a facility that, by design, deprives its detainees of adequate food, water, and shelter, fosters routine violence; and places him with his persecutors.”
In an <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/pam-bondi-puts-faith-ice-key-source-decision-deport-alleged-ms-13-gang-member">interview</a> on &#8220;Fox News Sunday,&#8221; Attorney General Pam Bondi defended the deportation of Abrego Garcia, saying, &#8220;We have to rely on what ICE says. We have to rely on what Homeland Security says. They&#8217;re our clients, and I firmly believe in the work they are doing, and we&#8217;re going to make America safe again. That was President Trump&#8217;s directive to all of us.&#8221;
After Abrego Garcia was deported, an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official admitted that he was mistakenly sent to El Salvador through an &#8220;administrative error.&#8221;
&#8220;This was an oversight, and the removal was carried out in good faith based on the existence of a final order of removal and Abrego-Garcia’s purported membership in MS-13,” ICE official Robert L. Cerna wrote to a federal judge.
The Trump administration has said that it cannot bring Abrego Garcia back to the United States since he is already in Salvadoran custody. The administration has been sending suspected violent, illegal immigrants to El Salvador to be held in an infamous Salvadoran prison.
In 2019, the Department of Homeland Security charged Abrego Garcia with illegally residing in the United States. During his proceedings, the immigration judge denied him bond “because ‘the evidence show[ed] that he is a verified member of [Mara Salvatrucha] (‘MS-13’)]’ and therefore posed a danger to the community,” according to ICE’s statement to the court. While the judge ordered Abrego Garcia&#8217;s removal, he stipulated that he could not be sent back to El Salvador.
Abrego Garcia has resided in the United States since 2011 and is married to a U.S. citizen. Federal agents reportedly arrested him in an Ikea parking lot while his 5-year-old autistic son was in the backseat of his vehicle.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leavitt-lays-out-actual-facts-in-response-to-media-uproar-over-illegal-deported-in-error" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a> to questions about the deportation last week, acknowledging that Abrego Garcia was sent to El Salvador by mistake, but adding that he &#8220;will not be returning to our country.&#8221; Leavitt said that the White House &#8220;maintains&#8221; that Abrego Garcia &#8220;was a member of the brutal and vicious MS-13 gang&#8221; and alleged that he was involved in human trafficking.
