A suspect has been taken into custody after he allegedly shot four commuter train passengers in the Chicago area on Monday, and police believe the victims were asleep when they were gunned down.
Police in Forest Park, a suburb west of Chicago, said that security footage showed the victims were all seated apart from each other and appeared to be asleep when they were shot, NBC News <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/rcna169240" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The Forest Park Police Department <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1012191644251752&amp;set=a.360891732715083" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> it received a call at 5:27 a.m. on Monday from someone saying three people had been shot on the Chicago Transit Authority Blue Line train at the Forest Park Station. When police responded, they found four gunshot victims — three of whom were pronounced dead at the scene and another who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The shooter escaped, and Chicago police later arrested a suspect who matched the description of the commuter train shooter and recovered a firearm. The suspect&#8217;s name has not been released and authorities have not said if there was motive in the shooting. None of the victims&#8217; names, ages, or genders have been revealed.
&#8220;This appears to be an isolated incident with no immediate threat to the community,&#8221; the Forest Park Police Department said in a statement.

Chin said at a news conference that the shooting took place on two train cars, and the train was in motion and <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/02/us/4-people-killed-on-train-near-chicago/index.html">approaching</a> Forest Park when the shooting occurred.
<a href="https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/vrd/home/violence-victimization.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fatal shootings</a> in Chicago — while dropping from the record highs set in 2020 and 2021 — spiked during the summer. Over the July 4 weekend this year, 109 people were <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/chicago-reels-bloody-july-4-weekend-109-people-shot-19-fatally-rcna160825" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shot</a> and 19 were killed, including an 8-year-old boy. Labor Day weekend saw another 26 people wounded and <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/chicago-weekend-shootings-august-30-to-september-3/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">five people killed</a> in addition to the four people killed on the commuter train.

Washington Post journalist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/taylor-lorenz">Taylor Lorenz</a> shared some details about the &#8220;Hotties for Harris&#8221; party that took place at this week&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/democratic-national-convention">Democratic National Convention</a> in Chicago.
The Instagram account, @houseinhabit, which is run by Jessica Reed Kraus, shared a story featuring Lorenz talking about some of the surprising activities and party favors at the event. The post quickly started making the rounds on X as well.
“Taylor is filling us in on some of the DNC highlights since we haven’t been able to get into the convention,” the person recording says in the video. “And what did you get as a party favor?” she asked.

Lorenz replied, “So, well I was at the &#8216;Hotties for Harris&#8217; party last night, which was a party a bunch of people went to, and they had like all of these different sort of things. “It was Plan B,” she said, laughing about receiving the emergency contraceptive pill as a party favor. “It’s a Plan B pill,” she repeats before the video cuts to a photo of the gumball machine stocked with contraceptives.

She described Rep. Alexandria Occasio-Cortez (D-NY) as having “charisma” while calling New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul a “void in the room.” 
Besides the tampons and Plan B, Planned Parenthood set up a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/planned-parenthood-bus-offering-free-abortions-vasectomies-outside-dnc">mobile clinic</a> a few blocks outside the DNC, providing free abortions and vasectomies.

The city of Chicago, former President Barack Obama’s adopted hometown, has given permission for anti-Israel protesters to demonstrate near the Democratic National Convention but has stonewalled a pro-Israel group that requested to hold a solidarity march near the venue.
“The Israeli American Council, a nonprofit organization representing Israeli-Americans that seeks to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Israel, filed two applications with Chicago’s Department of Transportation at the beginning of July, according to Aya Schechter, the group’s chief programming officer,” <a href="https://jewishinsider.com/2024/08/democratic-national-convention-city-of-chicago-pro-israel-solidarity-march/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jewish Insider</a> reported. “But with just under two weeks remaining until the convention, the IAC has yet to receive an answer from the city, despite following up via phone and email.”
Yet last month, Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration offered a coalition of anti-Israel demonstrators a route near the United Center, where the convention will be held, for their “March on the DNC.&#8221;
“It’s a win. But it’s not the win,” coalition spokesperson Hatem Abudayyeh told the <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/07/12/pro-palestine-dnc-protesters-win-route-within-sight-and-sound-of-convention-but-still-want-tweaks/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chicago Tribune</a> in July. “Organizing works. You put a little pressure on the powers that be and you can move them.”
In June, the Israeli American Council submitted an application for a demonstration within “sight and sound” of the United Center. That application was rejected; the city wrote back that the rally “would be a direct interference with a previously planned permitted activity or public assembly and would create public safety issues.”

The city said it would permit a stationary rally during the convention&#8217;s last night, but it would have to take place at a park far from the venue. “It seems like we don’t have equitable access to whatever the other group was approved for,” Schechter told Jewish Insider. “We didn’t get any offer to do a march, not even in an alternative location.”
Meanwhile, the anti-Israel groups were still not satisfied with what they received; they <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/2024-democratic-national-convention/2024/08/05/judge-intervene-dnc-chicago-city-hall-protest-groups" target="_blank" rel="noopener">asked</a> U.S. District Judge Andrea Wood to let them march even closer to the convention.
Abudayyeh has reportedly openly supported the terrorist group Hamas for years. According to <a href="https://canarymission.org/individual/Hatem_Abudayyeh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Canary Mission</a>, he stated in a July 22, 2006 interview, “The U.S. and Israel will continue to describe Hamas, Hezbollah and the other Palestinian and Lebanese resistance organizations as ‘terrorists,’ but the real terrorists are the governments and military forces of the U.S. and Israel … the Lebanese and Palestinian resistance must be supported.”
Canary Mission also noted that in a March 20, 2017 interview, “Abudayyeh <a href="http://www.globalresearch.ca/palestine-resistance-against-occupation-colonialism-and-apartheid/5580689" target="_blank" rel="noopener">praised</a> Hamas for taking ‘the most leading role in the military resistance against Israel’ and called Palestinian terror groups ‘resistance forces.’”

Former President Donald Trump flew into Chicago on Wednesday to speak at the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) Conference, while Vice President Kamala Harris declined an invitation reportedly due to scheduling conflicts.
After a delay due to apparent audio equipment issues, Trump finally took the stage around 1:15 p.m. CT for a discussion led by ABC News reporter Rachel Scott, Semafor reporter Kadia Goba, and Fox News anchor Harris Faulkner. Scott started the interview by asking Trump to address the controversy around his invite to the NABJ conference and his negative comments directed at black Democrats over the years.

The former president focused on addressing illegal immigration, the economy, and inflation and how those issues are affecting black Americans under the Biden administration.
&#8220;The inflation is absolutely destroying our middle class, our working class, virtually every class. Inflation is a disaster in our country,&#8221; he said, adding, &#8220;People can&#8217;t buy houses. They no longer have the American Dream. Young people, young black people, they don&#8217;t have the American Dream anymore.&#8221;

Vice President Harris asked the conference organizers if she could appear for the fireside chat over Zoom, but she was denied that request. NABJ President Ken Lemon released a <a href="https://nabjonline.org/blog/vp-harris-offers-to-address-nabj-virtually-postconvention-former-president-trump-set-to-appear-inperson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>, saying his team was &#8220;in conversation with the Harris for President campaign team to schedule a Q&amp;A session between Vice President Harris and NABJ, either in person or virtually, at some point in September.&#8221;
Lemon&#8217;s statement suggests that Harris appearing virtually at Wednesday&#8217;s conference was a possibility, but the event organizers were informed earlier this week &#8220;that Harris would not be available in person or virtually during our Convention.&#8221; The statement also addresses apparent blowback from some NABJ members about the conference inviting Trump to speak.
&#8220;While we acknowledge the concerns expressed by our members, we believe it is important for us to provide our members with the opportunity to hear directly from candidates and hold them accountable,&#8221; the statement added. &#8220;We also want to provide our members with the facts.&#8221;

After Chicago Democratic Mayor Brandon Johnson blamed former President Richard Nixon following 19 murders being committed in Chicago over the July 4 weekend, the Richard Nixon Foundation harshly criticized him. One hundred nine people were reportedly injured in the shootings.
“The spree spanned 74 separate incidents, including a horrific family slaying that saw an 8-year-old boy killed along with two relatives, while two other boys, aged 5 and 7, were injured in the same shooting,” The Daily Mail <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13617833/Chicago-shooting-Richard-Nixon-mayor-brandon-johnson.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>.
“Black death has been, unfortunately, accepted in this country for a very long time,” Johnson declared at a news conference. “We had a chance 60 years ago to get at the root causes, and people mocked President [Lyndon] Johnson. And we ended up with Richard Nixon.”

Shocking new video footage shows migrants who were staying at a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/chicago" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chicago</a> shelter robbing and beating up a straphanger back in February.
The group of four migrant men from Venezuela can be seen choking a 49-year-old man during a broad daylight strong-arm robbery on Chicago&#8217;s L train, video surveillance obtained by Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/venezuelan-migrants-allegedly-choke-rob-chicago-man-train-video-shows" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shows</a>.
The attack happened just before evening rush hour on February 17.

The migrants put a knife to the victim&#8217;s neck, court documents say, and went through his pockets, taking $400 and a cell phone before leaving him unconscious.
Before the attack, the men appeared to be drinking and smoking on the train. They approached the victim and chatted him up before attacking him. The man reportedly recovered.
The suspects, Fernando Loyo-Rodriguez, Wilker Gutierrez Sierra, Carlos Carreno-Carreno, and Yonnier Guasamucare Garcia, are between ages 18 to 22. The four men were arrested about 45 minutes after the attack and gave government-funded migrant shelters as their addresses.
Three of the migrants remained in custody, while Gutierrez Sierra was allowed to go free with electronic monitoring.
They each face charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery/strangulation, and robbery.

Three of the migrant suspects had been previously arrested for shoplifting about a month before the train attack. They had only been in the U.S. for a few months before the robbery. One of the migrants had only been in the country for one month.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for August 28.
Chicago is currently paying to shelter about 13,000 of the <a href="https://www.chicago.gov/city/en/sites/texas-new-arrivals/home/Dashboard.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more</a> than 44,000 migrants who have arrived in the city over the last two years. The crisis has strained the city&#8217;s finances and caused city leaders to scramble for space to shelter the new arrivals.
Other cities have suffered similar crises over the last two years. New York City has seen an influx of more than 180,000 illegal migrants over the past two years, creating a financial and shelter space crisis that has caused officials to plead for federal help.
Under the Biden administration, there have been <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/stats/nationwide-encounters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">more</a> than 9.5 million migrant encounters across the country, as well as <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-admin-may-have-lost-track-millions-of-migrants-crossing-southern-border-congressional-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">about</a> 1.7 million illegal migrant gotaways, according to immigration authorities.
Earlier this year, immigration <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/644570/immigration-named-top-problem-third-straight-month.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">surged</a> to become the top issue on voters’ minds, bumping inflation down to second place, polls showed.
President Biden has reversed many of former President Donald Trump’s border policies aimed at slowing the flow of illegal immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, including the Remain in Mexico policy, which forced illegal migrants to stay on the Mexican side of the border while they awaited their asylum hearing.

Northwestern Law School made faculty job offers to only three white men in the last three years, passing over intellectual giants in favor of less qualified black females, including one who graduated &#8220;near the bottom of her class&#8221; and another who plagiarized when writing an exam, according to a <a href="https://media.aflegal.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/07/02114203/1-Complaint-7.2.2024.pdf">blistering lawsuit</a> filed on Tuesday.
Charging that “[f]aculty hiring at American universities is a cesspool of corruption and lawlessness,” the suit was filed by lawyers including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tennessee-isnt-backing-down-from-trans-surgery-ban-even-if-a-federal-judge-imposes-an-injunction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jonathan Mitchell</a>, who was involved in the 2023 Supreme Court case on Harvard University admissions that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-issues-landmark-ruling-on-affirmative-action-at-universities" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blocked affirmative action</a>, and signals that similar lawsuits could be in store against colleges across the country.
The lawsuit delves into the details of Northwestern’s recent hiring to paint a picture of affirmative action that is not simply a tie-breaker between equals, but rather the near-total exclusion of highly qualified white males in favor of minorities with weak qualifications, and whose hiring typically ends in disaster.
“For at least the last twelve years, since the installation of then-Dean Daniel Rodriguez, the leadership of Northwestern Law School has propagated and enforced a mandate to hire as many non-white and non-male faculty candidates as possible,” it said.
The lawsuit says it was impossible for even the brightest legal minds to reach a classroom if they were white. Northwestern declined to even interview Eugene Volokh, a “prolific and internationally renowned legal scholar,” for a job, the suit said — adding that Vice Dean Emily Kadens “openly said that Professor Volokh would have been hired at Northwestern had he been anything other than a white man.”
Meanwhile, it hired Destiny Peery, a black woman who graduated from Northwestern Law &#8220;near the bottom of her class,&#8221; something Northwestern&#8217;s faculty was well aware of, and which ordinarily would be an absolute roadblock to being hired as a law professor.
By the time Peery came up for her three-year employment review, where the school decides to get rid of or promote junior faculty, Peery had published almost nothing, but fellow black professor Janice Nadler, who was in charge of the review, misled the committee by falsely claiming old dissertation chapters were actually new work.
After that was exposed, Nadler shifted gears to complain that because of her race, the school had given Peery so many speaking opportunities that she had no time to write. The committee voted to retain Peery, despite being &#8220;incensed&#8221; by Nadler&#8217;s dishonesty, the suit said.
At the five-year mark, when a final decision on tenure is made, Peery had still “failed to produce any scholarship that could warrant a tenured appointment,” and was warned not to seek tenure. Peery then accused “Northwestern of racism for denying her tenure, pretending that she was a victim of race and sex discrimination when racial preferences were the very reason she was hired in the first place,” the suit said.
No other college would put her on its faculty — but Peery found employment at Harvard Law School in a non-teaching position at its “Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race &amp; Justice.”
Similarly, Northwestern hired “another unqualified black woman named Candice Player, who (like Peery) failed to obtain tenure after proving herself incapable of producing scholarship that could justify a tenured appointment. Player also struggled in the classroom, and admitted to colleagues that she did not understand the material she was teaching and couldn’t handle the students’ questions. In one of her classes, Player gave a final exam in which she had plagiarized an exam hypothetical from another source, because Player was too lazy to write her own exam question,&#8221; the suit continued.
The plagiarism scandal led to her departure from Northwestern and “Player, like Peery, failed to obtain another academic appointment after leaving Northwestern.&#8221; She now works as Vice President of Advocacy, Public Policy and Street Outreach at Project HOME in Pennsylvania.

Then-Dean Rodriguez had &#8220;ramrodded Player’s appointment through the faculty by threatening to withhold bonuses from any professor who had the temerity to question the wisdom or legality of the appointment. Player would never even have been considered for a faculty appointment at Northwestern if she had been white or a member of a different race, and Player was hired over white male candidates who were vastly more capable and qualified than she was,” the suit said.

In 2018, Kimberly Yuracko was appointed dean of the law school at Northwestern in a process that was secret and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/law-school-pays-for-gay-dance-party-to-quell-uproar-following-diversity-offices-promotion-of-civility" target="_blank" rel="noopener">focused on identity politics</a> and the exclusion of men, with the white female Yuracko beating out a black female critical race theorist, who was runner-up, it added. 
In the 2019-2020 school year, Yuracko made a deal with a conservative professor that if the faculty greenlit her problematic appointments, she would see to it that a gay professor, Ilan Wurman, was hired, even though he is white. After her candidates were approved, Wurman was blocked, with then-Associate Dean Sarah Lawsky saying &#8220;at a faculty meeting that she opposed Wurman’s appointment to the faculty because he is a white man,&#8221; the suit said.
In 2022, the school hired Jamelia Morgan, a black woman from the low-ranked UC Irving with only four years of teaching, and gave her a $900,000 budget to start a “Center for Racial and Disability Justice.” The <a href="https://www.crdjustice.org/blog-posts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">center’s website</a> hasn’t published a journal article in a year and a blog post in six months, and the suit said it has hosted only two events.
In all, in 2023-24 Northwestern Law made six offers of employment, none of which went to white men. The prior year, it made nine offers, only one of which went to a white man (whose scholarship focused on promoting affirmative action).
In 2021-2022, it made six offers, two of which went to white men&#8211;but one offer was made to someone who had “zero chance” of accepting because he taught at a much higher-ranked school, perhaps a maneuver to make the statistics look less anti-white. The other worked in tax law, a specialty where there were few minority options, the suit said. 
Accomplished white men like Volokh and Ernie Young, a longtime Duke professor and Harvard Law grad, were “rejected in favor of candidates with mediocre and undistinguished records,” the suit said.
The suit was filed on behalf of a group called Faculty, Alumni, and Students Opposed to Racial Preferences, which says it consists of people who have standing to sue because they may have lost out on faculty jobs, represented by lawyers from America First Legal and Stone Hilton in addition to Mitchell&#8217;s firm. 
It said that for years, administrators have thought they could “flout” laws preventing discrimination based on race, but “the jig is up” after the Supreme Court clamped down on race-based decision-making in a 2023 case on Harvard admissions.

A Democratic politician whom the Chicago Tribune regarded as “arguably the most powerful politician in Chicago for decades” was convicted of corruption but got a light sentence from the judge.
On Monday, U.S. District Judge Virginia Kendall sentenced former Chicago Alderman Edward Burke to two years in federal prison, roughly one-fifth of what prosecutors recommended and far less than the 6.5 years recommended by federal guidelines. He was also fined $2 million. Burke, who is reputedly worth $30 million, was convicted on 13 of 14 counts of racketeering, bribery and attempted extortion.
“Prosecutors argued the actual cost of the crimes Burke was convicted of was $829,525,” WTTW <a href="https://news.wttw.com/2024/06/24/ex-ald-ed-burke-hit-2-year-prison-sentence-i-regret-pain-and-sorrow-i-have-caused">reported</a>.
Burke, who is 80 years old,  “surely won’t be incarcerated for close to the two years he got Monday for getting caught red-handed shaking down businesses needing city permits and approvals,” the Chicago Tribune editorial board <a href="https://www.chicagotribune.com/2024/06/24/editorial-ed-burke-sentencing-corruption-prison/?lctg=B4845491D5F64499A4E4B513EB&amp;utm_email=B4845491D5F64499A4E4B513EB&amp;g2i_eui=&amp;g2i_source=newsletter&amp;active=yes&amp;utm_source=newsletter&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=https%3a%2f%2fwww.chicagotribune.com%2f2024%2f06%2f24%2feditorial-ed-burke-sentencing-corruption-prison%2f&amp;utm_campaign=trib-chicago_tribune-breaking_news_business_dont_miss-nl&amp;utm_content=alert">opined</a>.
“Clearly, these were not a one-time lapse in judgment,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah Streicker said regarding the incidents in which Burke acted corruptly. “They were the exact opposite. … He operated as a seasoned professional.”
“The $2 million fine was, on one level, a big bill for Burke to have to pay but also very disturbing to us,” The Tribune stated, pointing out Burke could well afford it. “&#8230; it left the impression of a powerful man being permitted to purchase years of freedom, simply because he had sufficient resources to do so.”

‘Most Powerful Politician In Chicago’ Gets Light Sentence For Corruption

On Sunday, former President Trump targeted Illinois Democratic governor J.B. Pritzker, who has been considered a <a href="//99A6E61D-298C-4381-BBD0-B0D7107881D8/v" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rising star</a> in the Democratic Party but who has presided over the state while natives flee.
Pritzker was inaugurated as governor of the state in January 2019; between July 2021 and July 2022, over 142,000 people left Illinois. The only state that had a <a href="https://www.heritage.org/taxes/commentary/why-are-people-fleeing-illinois" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faster rate of population</a> decline during that same time period was New York.
“Sloppy J.B. Pritzker, the Rotund Governor from the once great State of Illinois, who makes Chris Christie look like a male model, and whose family wanted him out of the business because he was so pathetic at helping them run it, has presided over the destruction and disintegration of Illinois at levels never seen before in any State. Crime is rampant and people are, sadly, fleeing Illinois. Unless a change is made at the Governor&#8217;s level, Illinois can never be Great Again,” Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/112626680945709862" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> on Truth Social.
Pritzker has a massive $52.7 billion 2025 spending plan that will require enormous tax increases of an estimated $898 million. Illinois currently has the second-highest corporate income tax rate in the country. He wants to extend extension of Illinois’ cap on net operating losses, which would raise taxes on companies losing money, as Bryce Hill, Director of Fiscal and Economic Research with the Illinois Policy Institute, <a href="https://www.illinoispolicy.org/pritzker-wants-to-spend-record-amount-but-needs-898m-in-tax-hikes-to-do-it/">pointed out</a> in a comprehensive piece about Pritzker’s 2025 budget.
Pritzker would “effectively raise taxes by $186 million on retailers,” Hill noted, adding, “Retailers now retain 1.75% of the sales taxes for collecting and sending them to the government, so long as they properly file and pay their applicable sales taxes by their due dates. Under Pritzker’s proposal, the value of this tax credit would be capped at $1,000 per month.”
Hill asserts that Pritzker’s 2025 budget proposal includes “a hidden $93 million income tax hike on individuals. He will get that money by shortchanging the inflation adjustment to the state’s standard income tax exemption. &#8230; the state’s current standard exemption for tax year 2024 is set a $2,775 per income taxpayer and dependent. Pritzker wants to reduce this exemption to $2,550 per income taxpayer and dependent – a change that would only account for one years’ worth of inflation adjustments instead of the two taxpayers are due.”

A couple of months ago, in March, a 37-year-old man named Crosetti Brand was released on parole in the state of Illinois. He had been locked up on a charge of home invasion and sentenced to more than a decade in prison, but the state&#8217;s prisoner review board decided to let him out early with electronic monitoring.
What happened next was predictable. Just a day after he got out of prison, Chicago police say Crosetti <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/edgewater-chicago-murder-jayden-perkins-ravenswood-avenue/14527280/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">attacked</a> a pregnant woman and her 11-year-old boy, killing the child and critically injuring his mother. According to court documents, the last time he was on parole, Crosetti had <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/edgewater-chicago-murder-jayden-perkins-ravenswood-avenue/14527280/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatened</a> the same woman by text message and showed up at her home. But none of Crosetti&#8217;s criminal history, including his alleged threats, were enough to keep him in prison. And his ankle monitor apparently wasn&#8217;t much of a deterrent when he got out. Now, authorities say, a child is dead as a result.
This is clearly a massive failure of the judicial system in Illinois — which, particularly post-BLM, has focused more on &#8220;rehabilitation&#8221; instead of punishment. It&#8217;s the kind of episode that you&#8217;d hope would spur lawmakers in Illinois to pass new laws to rein in their approach of &#8220;restorative justice.&#8221;
But the Illinois government has opted for a very different response. Instead of doing something to prevent violent criminals from getting out of prison, state lawmakers have decided on a course of action that&#8217;s ripped straight from a Babylon Bee article. 
A new bill that was just passed by both houses of the Illinois legislature — and which is expected to be signed by the governor — will modify state law so that the term &#8220;offender&#8221; becomes &#8220;justice-impacted individual.&#8221; The Department of Corrections and a bunch of other government agencies will be required to use that term. So the plan is not to do anything about the criminals who are getting out of prison. It&#8217;s to use a nicer word to describe these criminals. Don&#8217;t call them &#8220;offenders,&#8221; call them &#8220;justice-impacted individuals.&#8221; 
I had to check several times to make sure this wasn&#8217;t satire, because it&#8217;s quite literally beyond parody. Actually, if the Babylon Bee did this, I wouldn&#8217;t find it very funny because it would be too on the nose. But it&#8217;s reality now in Illinois. This is their cutting-edge approach to criminal justice. Watch:

Before the fact-checkers jump down my throat, I&#8217;ll emphasize one thing, which is that this rebrand doesn&#8217;t apply to everyone who commits crimes in the state of Illinois. Instead, this new term applies only to men and women in the state&#8217;s &#8220;Adult Redeploy Illinois&#8221; program, or ARI. According to the government of McLean County, Illinois, the ARI program provides for &#8220;comprehensive daily supervision&#8221; of dozens of &#8220;high-risk adult felons as an alternative to costly penitentiary commitment.&#8221;
So they&#8217;re not rebranding every criminal as a &#8220;justice-impacted individual.&#8221; They&#8217;re only rebranding some &#8220;high-risk adult felons&#8221; who otherwise would be in prison. If you&#8217;re living in Chicago, hopefully you can rest easy tonight with that distinction in mind.

The point of the word game here is the same as always: first, it removes agency from the individual by making terminology as passive as possible. An offender is not an offender anymore, because offending is something that a person actively does. It puts the onus on the individual. Instead they are “justice impacted.” They were impacted by justice. It’s not their fault. Justice just came alone and impacted them. They’re the victims here, if anything. And second, it helps identify the people in your club. They&#8217;re the ones who know about these lingo changes and follow the rules. It’s not much different from a child who sets up a pillow fort and won’t let you inside it unless you know the password, which changes randomly and on a whim.
If you go looking online for the term &#8220;justice-impacted individual,&#8221; you&#8217;ll find that it&#8217;s popular among Harvard <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XXvUBYA9C3Y&amp;t=70s" target="_blank" rel="noopener">podcasters</a>, billionaire Left-wing <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZXyRPvTcGc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">activists</a>, and giant Silicon Valley <a href="https://grow.google/justice-impacted/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">corporations</a> like Google. These are people and organizations that, conveniently enough, have distanced themselves as much as possible from communities where crime is high. They don&#8217;t want anything to do with &#8220;justice-impacted individuals,&#8221; but they want you to have to live near them and treat them with respect.
Of course, no one in the real world uses terms like &#8220;justice-impacted individuals,&#8221; which is precisely the point. If you go around saying the words &#8220;justice-impacted individual,&#8221; then you&#8217;re instantly communicating where you stand on the political spectrum. And perhaps more importantly, people who don&#8217;t use these new terms are instantly identifiable as outcasts — as racists and terrible people. Every so often, wealthy elites and academics come up with new ways to provide these kinds of signals, and then they inevitably filter down to activists and government bureaucrats, which is what&#8217;s happening now in Illinois.
There was an episode during the Canadian trucker convoy a couple of years ago that illustrates how this strategy works in practice. The truckers who gathered in the Canadian capital city of Ottawa were exactly the kind of blue-collar workers that liberals pretend to care about. But in this case, the blue-collar workers were protesting for autonomy from their government, so they had to be crushed. It was vitally important for liberals to smear these truckers as racist. And one of the ways the liberals did that was by criticizing the truckers for using the wrong lingo.

This is a Romanian trucker who clearly speaks English as a second language. And he&#8217;s explaining on primetime television that he&#8217;s not racist because he has a bunch of &#8220;colored friends.&#8221;
Logically, there&#8217;s no difference whatsoever between saying &#8220;I have colored friends&#8221; and &#8220;I have friends who are people of color.&#8221; It&#8217;s just a slight grammatical difference that means absolutely nothing. If anything, the latter sentence is unnecessarily wordy. Otherwise, they&#8217;re the same statements. If a person can be “of color” then it is accurate to say that the person is “colored.” A person of color is a colored person. But your intellectual superiors have decided that &#8220;people of color&#8221; is the only phrase you&#8217;re allowed to use. Say &#8220;colored people&#8221; and — unless you&#8217;re the NAACP — you&#8217;re a bigot. So they vilified this trucker all over social media, both here and in Canada.
This is one of the main reasons that cutting-edge P.C. lingo exists. It&#8217;s why you&#8217;re supposed to say &#8220;people experiencing homelessness,&#8221; instead of &#8220;homeless drug addict.&#8221; It&#8217;s why you&#8217;re supposed to say &#8220;minor attracted person&#8221; instead of &#8220;pedophile.&#8221; And it&#8217;s why, if at all possible, you&#8217;re supposed to employ clever euphemisms to describe criminals who happen to be black.
The New York Post is particularly adept at this trick, to the point that it&#8217;s become a running joke online (and presumably, in the Post&#8217;s newsroom). Among the <a href="https://x.com/iamyesyouareno/status/1784289896418447624" target="_blank" rel="noopener">euphemisms</a> that the New York Post has come up with to describe black suspects are: &#8220;cold-hearted teens,&#8221; &#8220;knife-wielding sicko,&#8221; &#8220;misogynistic maniac,&#8221; and my personal favorite, &#8220;<a href="https://nypost.com/2022/10/01/greenwich-village-block-held-hostage-by-lunchtime-rowdies/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lunchtime rowdies</a>.&#8221;
Just in case there was any doubt that the Post is doing this deliberately, here&#8217;s a passage from that article on &#8220;lunchtime rowdies.&#8221; See if you can count all the euphemisms: &#8220;A band of foul-mouthed, toy gun-waving, pot-puffing high school hooligans are keeping residents of West 13th off 6th Avenue hostage in their own tony homes. &#8230; For at least a year while school is in session, the roughnecks roam from stoop to stoop every day at lunchtime, rolling blunts, getting high, acting out and taunting anyone who gets in their way.&#8221;
With terms like “hooligans,” “roughnecks,” and “lunchtime rowdies,” you’d be forgiven for thinking that this is an article from a small town newspaper somewhere out in the wild west in the year 1873. My only hope is that in the next Post article they can work in the terms “ruffian” and “scoundrel.” In any case, you can read the whole article, and you won&#8217;t find any mention in the text about the ethnicity of these &#8220;lunchtime rowdies&#8221; and &#8220;pot-puffing hooligans.&#8221; But if a white person is causing problems, the Post will generally put the race in the headline. 
For example, one recent <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/09/27/video-shows-white-queens-man-allegedly-spray-black-partygoers/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">headline</a> in the Post read, &#8220;Video shows black NYC partiers scatter for cover as white neighbor douses them with garden hose.&#8221;
There was no euphemism for the white guy. He wasn&#8217;t a &#8220;hose-toting scoundrel&#8221; or anything like that. He was just a &#8220;white neighbor.&#8221; And for what it&#8217;s worth, not all of the people he hit with the water were black. The Post went out of its way to mention the race of the white guy even when it was misleading to do so.
This isn&#8217;t specific to the New York Post. It&#8217;s the approach of most major media outlets. As the account DataHazard <a href="https://x.com/eyeslasho/status/1791131053278515440" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a>, the race of white murderers is made clear in more than 90% of news articles. But with black murderers, race is only mentioned in 30% of the article — and when it does appear, it&#8217;s usually much lower down in the text of the article.
Journalists do this, in part, to signal that they&#8217;re true believers in principles of &#8220;restorative justice.&#8221; And in the process, they&#8217;re denying the agency of black offenders by holding them to a completely different standard. These criminals get additional protections in the media, even when they commit heinous crimes, solely on the basis of their skin color. Now the state of Illinois is doing the same thing. It&#8217;s almost as if they hired the New York Post euphemism guy to write their legislation.
To give the Left some credit, they understand the role of language in shaping policy. In order to normalize crime and pedophilia, they first need to change the way people refer to crime and pedophilia. That effort is now underway in Illinois, which means many more &#8220;justice-impacted individuals&#8221; will soon be out on the streets. It also means that many more innocent people — including children and pregnant women —  will be impacted by these &#8220;justice-impacted individuals.&#8221; One euphemism at a time, in Democrat-run cities all over the country, it&#8217;s pretty clear that&#8217;s the point.

For all his promise, Barack Obama was a man of few accomplishments before being elected to the highest office in America. But he actually did achieve something when it came to national politics. He brought the Chicago Democratic Machine model into the national arena.
I grew up just north of Cook County, Illinois, in which Chicago is located. For 21 years, from 1955 to 1976, Mayor Richard J. Daley ran his town as a true big city party machine Democrat, complete with patronage and all the other creepy-crawly intrigues to be found when turning over the rocks of municipal politics.
While Daley was a Democrat, he was no ideologue. He was a product of the old school Democrat Party that gave us FDR, Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Tip O’Neill, Scoop Jackson, Zell Miller, and even Bill Clinton. Indeed, it was Daley’s Chicago Police who violently cleared out Grant Park anti-war protesters during the height of the 1968 Democrat Convention, for which he was vilified by Sen. Abraham Ribicoff (D-CT) as using “Gestapo tactics.” 
Daley was not a woke, pandering, identity-obsessed modern Democrat. Rather he was a mover, a conductor, a political boss. And the city ran. Under Daley the streets were clean, life was affordable, business boomed, the stunning skyline grew, and crime rarely spilled out onto the Magnificent Mile as it so often does now.
The Chicago Democrat Party is rife with corruption, as extended one-party rule inevitably leads to abuse of power — Chicago has not had a Republican mayor since 1931. The running joke in Chicago is “Vote Democrat, Vote Often.”

In fact, Daley&#8217;s son Richard M. Daley, served as mayor for 22 years, beating his father&#8217;s previous record by one year. The pathologies that exist in Chicago today, however, are not the result of Daley-esque pragmatist Democrats, but rather ideological zealots. As such, in one generation, the leadership of this once-great city has devolved from the old school Daleys to the hard-Left progressive leadership of Lori Lightfoot and now Brandon Johnson. Anyone with an objective eye can see that the farther Left Chicago has lurched, the more unlivable, expensive, and dangerous it has become. Even my beloved Chicago Bears have had enough and are moving from iconic Soldier Field downtown to Arlington Heights in the suburbs. 
So when then-presidential candidate Barack Obama <a href="https://www.ncregister.com/news/how-barack-obama-fundamentally-transformed-the-united-states">told a crowd</a> in Columbia, Missouri, in October of 2008, &#8220;We are five days away from fundamentally transforming the United States of America,&#8221; he meant it. But not in the way envisioned by the starry-eyed Obamanauts who projected upon their narcissistic empty suit of a messiah their own progressive aspirations. Obama doesn’t think that way. Anyone who rises to the top of Cook County politics by definition is about ruthlessly accumulating and maintaining political power as the ultimate goal, not making the world (other than his own) a better place. And as a way to amass national power for himself and the Democrats he still surreptitiously leads, Obama saw what works in Chicago and vowed to install the Cook County model for the Democrat Party machine on a national level.
The Democrat Party Obama created was one that sought to transform the entire country into Chicago. This transformation came to fruition in the 2020 election. I am not saying that the Democrats “stole” that election, but they did cynically exploit the faux concerns over COVID to force upon the nation mass mail-in ballots. In the 2016 election, roughly a quarter of all ballots were cast by mail. The percentage <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2020/11/20/the-voting-experience-in-2020/">jumped to 46%</a> in the 2020 election. This is no coincidence. Nor is it a coincidence that in 2020, even though some <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2020/11/20/the-voting-experience-in-2020/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">67%</a> of Trump voters voted in person either on or before election day, only 41% of Biden voters did the same. To my knowledge, GOP voters weren’t dying of COVID in droves afterwards. 
 
The DNC, which pushed mail-in balloting, knew what this unprecedented (some argue illegal in certain states) revamping of election procedure really meant for them: opportunity. As the Carter-Baker Commission on Federal Election Reform <a href="https://www.bakerinstitute.org/research/carter-baker-commission-16-years-later" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> in 2005, “Absentee ballots remain the largest source of potential voter fraud.” 
So why would a party that howls clarion calls about Trump’s “threat to our sacred democracy” push for this clearly flawed and easily corruptible election process? Because, historically, fraud has worked in their favor. It has in Cook County for decades and has shown to be a valuable tool at the national level as well.

A common media mantra is that 2020 saw no “widespread” election fraud. And, technically, they are probably correct. But that didn’t matter, and Obama and his Chicago cronies — including his Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who tellingly ended up mayor of Chicago himself for a spell, and who was eventually succeeded in his White House post by the late Mayor Daley’s son — understood this. When you have three key swing states in which Trump only won by a combined 80,000 votes in 2016, then “widespread” voter fraud is not needed. What is required is targeted fraud. 
There is no doubt that very powerful institutions from Big Government to Big Tech to Big Justice colluded to push their censoring and prosecutorial thumb on the elections scales. It&#8217;s still happening today, as evidenced by Trump’s many court appearances that caused even Left-leaning CNN host Fareed Zakaria to admit they are only taking place because of the accused’s name. As to actual ballot stuffing, harvesting, or illegal voting we will not know for a long time how much it did or did not occur. Nevertheless, millions of Americans sensed something was amiss in 2020, something we Chicagoans shrug off as business as usual. 
Remember, it took decades to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/lbj-stolen-election-box-13-mangan-c818e478ec509c65585d3094bda69f96" target="_blank" rel="noopener">show conclusively</a> that Texas Democrats did, in fact, knowingly falsify votes in LBJ’s successful 1948 run for Senate — with catastrophic consequences for the country later. 
 
Defenders of the overall integrity of mail-in ballots will point to various courts’ refusals to hear over 50 Trump-initiated claims of election fraud as evidence there is nothing to see here. But they will neglect to add that most of these dismissals were on procedural grounds such as standing or laches, and often just touched upon the potential merits which were never allowed to be fully argued before the bench. It’s worth noting that the Supreme Court, in fact, sided with the now-proven fraudsters for LBJ on procedural grounds as well. The courts are not oracles.
A <a href="https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/voting-during-covid-19" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> by New York University’s nonpartisan Brennan Center for Justice found that 40 states and the District of Columbia passed laws and changed procedures to expand voting access during the COVID pandemic as well as “substantive changes to their voting systems since the start of the pandemic.” Some eased rules on voting by mail or extended early voting to reduce crowds — to protect them from a virus that apparently only attacks poll lines and biker clubs, while leaving BLM and antifa protestors, or Democratic California governors at swanky Napa restaurants, alone. What makes this concerning is that these loosening standards affected 258 potential electoral votes. And, not surprisingly, 96 more eventually went for Biden than Trump; 47 of these had gone for Trump in 2016. 
This is why Obama’s main project seems to have been, at its core, elevating through mail-in ballots the corrupt Cook County machine to a national level. It&#8217;s all about power. It is not the means to an end, but rather the end itself. And COVID gave them their cover for all the election rule easing and censorship of “disinformation.” As Rahm Emanuel himself stated: “Never let a crisis go to waste.”
Still, this cynical attempt to nationalize what once worked locally in my hometown is fraught with hazard. One-party Chicagoland is a solidly cobalt blue enclave. They think the same way, vote the same way, believe the same way even if it leads to their city’s destruction. As such, they will tolerate corruption with a wink and a nod so long as their party stays in control of City Hall.
The country as a whole, however, is not Cook County. It is evenly divided among blue and red, as the last two elections have shown. There are some 75 million-plus voting Americans who will not just stand idly by with a shrug of the shoulder when the “Chicago Way” is applied nationally again. January 6, as ugly, ludicrous, unnecessary, and misguided as it was, nevertheless offered a chilling portent of what could happen should millions of voters once again feel that the electoral process has been compromised.
Democracy is built entirely on trust in the legitimacy of a voting system. And that trust must be especially strong among the losers. But what if trust is gone? What reason is there to believe in our democracy? What reason is there to obey any laws at all when they are only selectively applied based not on merit but party affiliation? If Americans no longer believe their votes are honestly counted, there is no more democratic foundation to hold up the Republic. Remember, we have elections to settle our differences without killing each other.
What Obama and his Chicago crew are attempting is a fundamental “transformation” of America as promised. And it will fail because, as with so many of the Left’s other misguided attempts to nationalize policies from healthcare to schooling, it is not scalable. Just as what works in tiny countries cannot be imposed on the enormous USA, neither can the political model of one corrupt, collapsing city be applied nationally without severe push-back from millions who will find no humor in the quip that “The dead of Cook County always vote Democrat.” 
One man’s joke is another’s sense of disenfranchisement and disempowerment. And that never ends well.

A woke <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illinois" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Illinois</a> math and science boarding academy makes teachers meet with an “equity” coach over “lack of inclusion” and “incorrect pronoun usage,” according to emails obtained by The Daily Wire.
Teachers at the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/math-and-science-academy-provides-personalized-gender-transition-support-to-students" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Illinois Math and Science Academy</a> (IMSA), a public boarding school in Aurora for grades 10-12, are told to meet with an “Equity Instruction Coach” if they are found to have violated school DEI policies, according to emails obtained by Parents Defending Education (PDE) and shared with The Daily Wire.
The emails show a school culture where teachers are expected to undergo a plethora of DEI-related trainings and an extensive process for faculty and community members to report alleged instances of bias. In one instance, a teacher was ordered to undergo a “coaching” session with the equity coach over pronoun use.
“It has been determined that there is no evidence of bias, but rather a lack of inclusion,” IMSA’s DEI Officer Adrienne Coleman wrote to the teacher in September 2023. “In this instance, while you were proactive in collecting students names and pronouns, IMSA students still felt uncomfortable and unsafe due to incorrect pronoun usage.”
The teacher was then told to prepare to “engage in a coaching session around gender and sexuality, as well as appropriate use of pronouns,” with an “Equity Instructional Coach.”
&#8220;The Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) is committed to maintaining a learning environment that is inclusive and supportive of all students, regardless of an individual’s race, sex, age, color, national origin, religion, disability or physical or mental ability, veteran’s status, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, ancestry, and/or other characteristics protected by applicable law,&#8221; IMSA told The Daily Wire. &#8220;The goal of coaching conversations and educational conversations in gender bias is to raise awareness and promote understanding and empathy.&#8221;
Other emails obtained by PDE show a number of supposed bias incidents being investigated, including an allegation from the school’s equity coach against a member of a committee reevaluating school policies through an “equity” lens. According to PDE, the school’s equity coach said that the incident made him question how the committee was selected, suggesting that white males and Christians shouldn’t be involved.
The equity coach said the incident “has made me question how individuals were chosen for the committee, considering the purpose of the work and how policies are inherently geared toward privileged individuals (white, straight, cis, able-bodied, men who are middle class and Christian) and, in reviewing for equity, should be evaluated by those who are not privileged,” the email said.

“These systems have no place in K-12 schools and are antithetical to a healthy educational environment,&#8221; Rhyen Staley, a researcher for PDE, told The Daily Wire. &#8220;It is deeply concerning to see a system in place that promotes reporting fellow students and staff for facial expressions and thought crimes. It is a tragedy that students are subjected to such draconian measures in the name of ‘safety’ and ‘equity.’”

The public information request from PDE also obtained a bias report that had been filed in 2022 by Coleman, who has been with the school for 16 years. In it, Coleman said that she was offended by evaluations referring to black staff members as “incompetent” and by having to “constantly” defend DEI programs at the school, among other allegations.
“This is exhausting and sometimes traumatic! Walk a mile in my shoes, have a conversation with me, do not judge me, erase the stereotypical perspectives that you have of me, get to know me, see my ‘Blackness,’ and understand that it is the most important part of my identity!” she wrote.
It is unclear how the complaint, filed in October 2022, was resolved, though The Daily Wire reached out to IMSA for comment.
