Illinois Democratic Governor JB Pritzker, who was labeled a &#8220;big fat slob&#8221; by President Donald Trump, revealed on Monday that he has lost 80 pounds thanks to a GLP-1 medication he started taking in the last two years.
Pritzker said in an <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kDg6zTyoN4">interview</a> with CBS News&#8217; David Begnaud that he began taking the GLP-1 after a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis. The governor&#8217;s weight loss has been evident in recent months as he continues to put himself in front of the media, taking shots at the Trump administration as he&#8217;s floated as a likely 2028 Democratic presidential candidate.
&#8220;I&#8217;ve been overweight most of my life, really. Since I was probably 7 or 8 years old,&#8221; Pritzker said. The governor added that the stress of his job led him to put on even more weight, CBS News reported.
Begnaud said the weight gain &#8220;forced [Pritzker] to put up with unwanted attention.&#8221; The outlet then played a clip of Trump from a campaign rally in March 2024, when Trump stated, &#8220;Pritzker, I don&#8217;t know, he&#8217;s too busy eating. He wants to eat all the time.&#8221; In November 2025, Trump again took a shot at Pritzker&#8217;s weight, while dishing on Illinois Democrats.
&#8220;The mayor is incompetent and the governor is a big fat slob,&#8221; Trump <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9AJaWEZ2UU">said</a>.
When asked by Begnaud if his weight loss is part of a strategy to help his image ahead of a potential 2028 run, Pritzker replied, &#8220;I&#8217;ve been driven my whole life to lose weight. The fact that I am now able to do it because this GLP-1 became available is truly &#8230; it&#8217;s something that has meant a lot to me. I have not made any decisions about what I might do in the future. I can tell you I want to be the governor of the state of Illinois for a while longer, and I&#8217;m running for re-election.&#8221;
The CBS News reporter then gave him another opportunity to say if he would run for president in 2028.
&#8220;I&#8217;m going to give you an easy out: tell me you&#8217;re not running for president in 2028,&#8221; Begnaud said.
Pritzker laughed and replied, &#8220;I honestly am focused on what&#8217;s best for the people of Illinois.&#8221;
Pritzker is running for a third term as governor in November.
Whether he&#8217;s taking GLP-1s for his political image or just for his health, Pritzker doesn&#8217;t seem self-conscious about his image anymore. In recent weeks, the Democrat posted a self-aggrandizing video to relate to Gen Z.
“When you’re in an aura farming contest and your opponent is J.B.” the short clip stated.
&#8220;Aura farming&#8221; is Gen Z speak for a person intentionally seeking out ways to make himself look confident and charismatic without making it look like the person is trying too hard. Pritzker captioned his video &#8220;Governor-maxxing.&#8221;

Pritzker has even joked about his weight loss in recent months, <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/illinois-playbook/2026/03/23/pritzker-brings-heat-and-2028-buzz-00839505">telling</a> a crowd in Washington, D.C., “I’m JB Pritzker, governor of the great state of Illinois, and if you’re seeing me in person for the very first time, yes, I’m the guy who put ‘gov’ in ‘Wegovy.’”
In his CBS News interview, Pritzker spoke to Begnaud alongside his wife, MK, as the three of them ate salads in the governor&#8217;s kitchen. When asked about Pritzker taking GLP-1s, MK said, &#8220;Well, I was very encouraging of it I have to say, and obviously I knew the history of his family. You know, it&#8217;s such a sad story, and of course, I want him to be around for a really long time.&#8221;
Pritzker&#8217;s father, Donald, a co-founder and president of the Hyatt Corporation, died of a heart attack at the age of 39.
&#8220;He was actually quite an active person even though he was overweight, so he was on a tennis court and had a heart attack and my mother was there. And he died in her arms,&#8221; Pritzker said.

Corie Walsh, the Illinois mother accused of a copycat killing of her 2-year-old son, was reportedly obsessed with the high-profile Lindsay Clancy murder case and has retained an attorney who helped defend Casey Anthony.
“She was psychotic. And this is not a first-degree murder,” defense attorney Andrea Lyon told reporters.
Lyon previously helped defend Casey Anthony, who was famously acquitted in 2011 of killing her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee. The case gripped the nation as prosecutors presented evidence of human decomposition and chloroform in Anthony’s car. Yet the jury was not convinced beyond a reasonable doubt and found Anthony not guilty of murder.
Lyon played a pivotal role in Anthony&#8217;s legal breakthrough. Her biography website dubs her the <a href="https://www.lyonkerr.com/andrea-lyon/">“Angel of Death Row”</a> and touts her success defending clients in capital punishment cases, though she withdrew from the Anthony defense team a year before the trial began. Now, she’s deploying similar defense strategies for the Frankfort mom, who admitted to hanging her toddler in the basement in what her attorneys called a psychotic break.
“They are not correlated at all. It’s just accidental,” Lyon <a href="https://www.wowt.com/2026/09/09/mother-charged-with-murder-was-psychotic-state-time-sons-strangling-attorney-says/">said</a>, calling the alleged connections to Lindsay Clancy’s triple-murder case “baseless and cruel.”
Walsh, 40, has been charged with <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1505145898323215&amp;set=a.303001815204302">three counts of first-degree murder</a> in the hanging death of her toddler, Barrett Walsh. The three charges are based on different legal theories of first-degree murder. Prosecutors use this method to pursue multiple theories of guilt at trial.
Disturbing new details continue to emerge about the horrific killing that shocked the relatively quiet suburb south of Chicago. During a court hearing Tuesday, prosecutors sought to keep Walsh behind bars pending trial. Her attorneys, however, argued she should instead receive inpatient medical care for an alleged psychotic episode.

In court Tuesday, prosecutors also said that her twisted plans extended beyond killing her toddler, saying she discussed poisoning her husband with a drink, <a href="https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/attorney-who-defended-casey-anthony-representing-frankfort-mom-accused-of-killing-son/3985859/">according to NBC Chicago</a>.
A judge ultimately ordered Walsh detained in jail, ruling that she posed a risk to her remaining children and husband. 
“We’re disappointed with the ruling, but we are going to continue to work really hard to investigate this case and present the defense as correct,” Lyon told reporters. 
Officers were called shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday to a home in Frankfort, Illinois, after receiving a report of an unresponsive child. Tuesday’s court hearing revealed that two other children returned from school, saw the horrific scene, and rushed to a neighbor for help, <a href="https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/frankfort-mom-accused-of-killing-son-said-she-intended-to-kill-other-kids-husband-pros/3985963/">local media reported</a>. The neighbor quickly pulled Barrett down from the basement and attempted CPR, but was unable to revive him.
Preliminary autopsy results indicated that the boy died from asphyxia caused by “ligature compression of the neck,” The Daily Wire reported.  
Walsh was home alone with the kids at the time of the killing while her husband was out of town. Local media said he flew back later that evening. Prosecutors said an 8-month-old infant was also inside the home at the time and had been left on the floor of an upstairs room.
Witnesses reportedly told authorities that Walsh had become “very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial,” <a href="https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/mom-told-police-son-was-devil-amid-tragic-discovery-in-frankfort-home-court-docs-reveal/3985269/">NBC Chicago reported</a>. Her fascination with the case allegedly went far beyond simply watching it on television. Walsh “had been actively discussing the case via group text message with her friends” just hours before her toddler was killed, the outlet reported.
Inside the upscale, two-story home, officers were “directed to an upstairs bathroom located in the master bedroom,” where Walsh was found “fully dressed, surrounded by bloody water,” according to court documents. Police found Walsh with non-life-threatening, self-inflicted cuts to her thighs and wrists.
The alleged killing bears striking similarities to the deaths of Lindsay Clancy’s three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan — whom prosecutors said Clancy strangled before attempting to take her own life. A judge declared a mistrial last Friday after a deadlocked jury failed to reach a verdict. 
“This is just absolutely devastating that this could be another Lindsay Clancy situation in our neighborhood, in our community. You never think it’s going to hit so close to home,” neighbor Carolyn Pappas <a href="https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/2-year-old-dead-mother-hospitalized-in-domestic-related-homicide-in-frankfort/3983800/">told local media</a>. “Just more people I think are struggling than we realize, and so we just need to be there for one another.”
Walsh&#8217;s next court appearance is set for September 24.

The &#8220;aura&#8221; campaign comes as Pritzker lays the groundwork for a potential 2028 presidential bid. Despite polling in single digits among prospective Democratic candidates, Pritzker has been desperately trying to build national resistance credibility. He made headlines in April by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pritzker-calls-for-mass-protests-destruction-says-gop-cannot-know-a-moment-of-peace">bellowing</a> calls for “mass protests” and “disruption” at a New Hampshire dinner, while previously comparing the incoming administration to 1930s Europe.

Pritzker claimed he wouldn&#8217;t use public money for billionaire sports teams, which was ironic since his administration <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/politics/2025/02/26/jb-pritzker-healthcare-costs-adults-without-lack-legal-status-illinois-auditor-frank-mautino?utm_source=chatgpt.com">massively understated</a> the cost of state healthcare for illegal immigrants by a staggering $1.6 billion.
Add in a history of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mr-hypocrisy-pritzker-bashes-texas-maps-forgets-his-own-power-grabs-in-illinois">signing off</a> on partisan district maps after repeatedly pledging to veto them and a legacy of <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/498263-illinois-business-owners-could-face-fine-jail-time-for-reopening-in/">COVID-19 lockdowns</a> that threatened small business owners with jail time, and Pritzker&#8217;s post looks even more ridiculous.

The Trump administration has tapped vocal angel father Joe Abraham, whose daughter Katie was killed by an illegal immigrant drunk driver, to serve in a major role within Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Abraham will assume the role of executive director of ICE&#8217;s Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement, or VOICE, office, where he will support other angel families whose loved ones were victims of crimes committed by illegal immigrants.
In January 2025, Guatemalan national Julio Cucul-Bol was driving drunk when he caused a hit-and-run crash in Illinois that killed Katie, 20, and her friend Chloe Polzin. Cucul-Bol later pleaded guilty to aggravated DUI causing death and leaving the scene of a crash involving death and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The grieving father has since become a vocal advocate for President Donald Trump&#8217;s mass deportation effort and immigration policies. He has also openly criticized Illinois&#8217; sanctuary policies.
His daughter&#8217;s story also inspired the Trump administration&#8217;s earlier &#8220;Operation Midway Blitz,&#8221; a massive immigration sweep targeting Illinois.
&#8220;Since his daughter, Katie, was murdered by an illegal alien drunk driver in a hit-and-run in sanctuary Illinois, he has been a staunch advocate for victims of illegal alien crime,&#8221; the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said in a statement Friday.
&#8220;In his new role, he will continue to help families who have lost a loved one to a preventable tragedy caused by open-border policies,&#8221; the department said.
In a statement posted to X on Friday, Abraham said he&#8217;s &#8220;excited&#8221; to assume the new role &#8220;because this is not simply a government position for me, it is deeply personal and rooted in a mission I have come to understand through unimaginable loss.&#8221;
&#8220;I want to use my experience, my voice, and what I have learned through Katie&#8217;s story to make sure victims and their families are heard, treated with dignity, and never become an afterthought in our immigration system,&#8221; he said.
The Biden administration previously closed the VOICE office in 2021 and replaced it with the Victims Engagement and Services Line, a service that allowed illegal immigrant detainees to report abuse in ICE detention centers.
The Trump administration reopened the VOICE office in April 2025. Since then, the office has received 897 calls from victims, family members, and advocates, DHS <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/dhs-releases-first-voice-and-dhs-vine-data-reports-emphasizing-support-victims#&amp;_intcmp=fnc_politics_article_main-content_article-body_6_11" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in June.
In total, the office has assisted 588 victims and 185 victim families, according to DHS. The most frequently reported crimes are assault, making up 35%, rape or sexual assault, at 17%, and homicide or manslaughter at 10%.

The top prosecutor in Cook County, Illinois, has sounded the alarm about the county&#8217;s electronic monitoring system for over a year, and two of her most striking claims have painted a picture that&#8217;s alarming Chicagoans.
In a March 2025 <a href="https://legaltalknetwork.com/podcasts/chicago-bar/2025/03/a-conversation-with-cook-county-states-attorney-justice-eileen-oneill-burke/">interview</a> on the Legal Talk Network&#8217;s &#8220;@theBar&#8221; podcast, State&#8217;s Attorney Eileen O&#8217;Neill Burke first raised the issue of &#8220;furlough days,&#8221; a provision in Illinois&#8217; SAFE-T Act that gives people on electronic monitoring two days a week free from active tracking.
Asked whether defendants could simply leave the state during those windows, Burke didn&#8217;t mince words: &#8220;They can go anywhere if they&#8217;re on their two furlough days.&#8221;
At the time, she said roughly 140 people charged with murder or attempted murder had been on electronic monitoring within the prior six months, which she called impossible to justify given the severity of those charges.
More than a year later, in an August 2026 interview with podcaster Landon Campbell, Burke <a href="https://cwbchicago.com/2026/08/electronic-monitoring-system-is-broken-and-needs-legislative-fix-states-attorney-says.html">returned to the subject</a> with updated and more specific numbers. According to figures her office says it received from the Chief Judge&#8217;s Office, 87 people charged with murder or attempted murder and 181 people charged with sexual assault were currently on electronic monitoring in Cook County. She also said over 300 people, 10-12% of the roughly 3,200 defendants who were supposed to be on monitoring, were unaccounted for, calling it a system where officials &#8220;have no idea where they are.&#8221;
Those figures have moved around considerably over time. A chief judge&#8217;s dashboard in spring 2026 showed a combined 34 people facing murder or attempted murder charges, while a separate report on the program&#8217;s population as of June 1, 2026, put the AWOL rate closer to 10% of just over 3,000 participants.
Burke has also been clear about one nuance that often gets lost: the two furlough days aren&#8217;t a fixed allotment but a statutory minimum. The law requires at least two unmonitored days a week, not a maximum of two.
The situation grew more chaotic when Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart <a href="https://www.wbez.org/criminal-justice/2025/04/08/cook-county-states-attorney-electronic-monitoring">handed</a> the entire electronic monitoring operation over to the chief judge&#8217;s office, effective April 2025. The catch: the chief judge&#8217;s pretrial services staff aren&#8217;t law enforcement and don&#8217;t have arrest powers. If someone cuts off an ankle bracelet or skips out on their restrictions, staff has to notify police or seek a warrant through the courts, and there’s no dedicated system in place for which agency actually goes and makes the arrest.
While Burke&#8217;s comments conjure an image of ankle bracelets that simply switch off for a weekend in Vegas, the underlying law is a bit more nuanced but still troubling. Under Illinois law and Cook County Sheriff&#8217;s Office policy, defendants on pretrial home confinement don&#8217;t get a literal blank check to leave the jurisdiction. The &#8220;essential movement&#8221; provision is meant for things like court dates, medical appointments, job hunting, and groceries. In Cook County, this typically takes the form of a fixed weekly schedule. Depending on their booking number, participants get either Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. free of active monitoring.
The GPS ankle bracelets are never actually powered off; they log location data around the clock. The real gap is in enforcement. As far back as 2022, Sheriff Dart&#8217;s office <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/2022/4/15/23026635/tom-dart-edward-maloney-cook-county-judge-safet-act-electronic-monitoring-essential-movement">maintained</a> that the law prohibited deputies from actively watching a participant&#8217;s live movements during those approved furlough hours, even though the device kept recording. That interpretation has essentially persisted as responsibility shifted from the sheriff to the chief judge&#8217;s office.
So while an accused murderer can&#8217;t legally hop a flight to Vegas without violating the terms of release, nobody is actively watching in real time where they go during their furlough hours.
It&#8217;s an administrative gap that has left prosecutors frustrated, law enforcement without a clear enforcement mechanism, and residents wondering who is keeping track.

More than 50 bodies were found decomposing in a Chicago funeral home Thursday night.
The grim discovery came after neighbors reported a horrible smell coming from the South Chicago Chapel funeral home for months. Officials found 56 bodies that were stored unrefrigerated at or above 40 degrees Fahrenheit, according to <a href="https://abc7chicago.com/post/more-50-cremated-remains-found-south-chicago-chapel-funeral-home-east-95th-street-where-56-decomposing-bodies/19649160/">ABC7 Chicago</a>.
The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office told the <a href="https://capitolnewsillinois.com/news/more-than-50-bodies-found-improperly-stored-and-decomposing-at-chicago-funeral-home/">Associated Press</a> the agency was notified by state and local officials that the bodies were being stored improperly, prompting investigators and forensic pathologists to head to the scene. The remains were in various states of decomposition.
In addition to the 56 bodies, more than 50 containers of cremated remains were also found at the funeral home, officials confirmed Saturday, per ABC7.
State disciplinary records allege Johanna Morgan allowed multiple bodies to be &#8220;kept in an unrefrigerated area with deplorable conditions including rodent infestation, causing decomposition and maggot infestation of the bodies,&#8221; according to the outlet.
Now officials are working to identify the remains and notify families.
“Staff is assessing the conditions of the remains, searching for documentation regarding identification of the decedents as well as death certificates. This process could take several days to ensure proper disposition,” the medical examiner’s office said in a statement.
The Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation told ABC7 the department temporarily suspended the license of funeral director Johanna Morgan on Wednesday — the day before the bodies were discovered. The agency also revoked the license of her husband, Clark Morgan, in 2024.
Last year, the state comptroller shut down a Chicago Heights crematory owned by Clark Morgan after more than 100 bodies were improperly stored at that location.
&#8220;They should have criminal charges pressed against them for how they mishandle these bodies,&#8221; Illinois State Comptroller Susana Mendoza said. &#8220;These people should be in jail. That&#8217;s where they should be.&#8221;
At this point no arrests have been announced, but the circumstances are still under investigation.

Federal agents arrested an illegal immigrant from Jordan after Illinois sanctuary authorities released him from custody despite an ICE detainer, following his arrest for allegedly carrying eight Molotov cocktails in his backpack, The Daily Wire has learned.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers caught up to Hamed Mohammed Hamed Alsaidi, 31, on Tuesday after Will County officials released him from custody and ignored a federal detainer, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) told The Daily Wire.
“Even though ICE lodged a detainer, sanctuary politicians in Will County, Illinois refused to honor it and released him without notifying ICE. Fortunately, thanks to the brave men and women of ICE, we have apprehended him and he remains in ICE custody,&#8221; a DHS spokesperson said, adding that the blame is on &#8220;Governor J.B. Pritzker and his fellow sanctuary politicians&#8221; who &#8220;need to stop putting American lives at risk with their reckless, America Last policies.&#8221;
Police in Mokena, Illinois, first encountered Alsaidi at a closed gas station around 2:52 a.m. on Saturday.
At the time, the illegal immigrant allegedly gave the fake name Hakmat Saidi to the police, <a href="https://www.shawlocal.com/the-herald-news/2026/08/04/federal-investigation-launched-into-man-charged-in-will-county-with-possessing-molotov-cocktails/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Shaw Local.
“He was told he could not be there and was given a ride to another gas station that was open,” prosecutors said, according to the local outlet.
Officers later observed Alsaidi walking in lanes of traffic and arrested him before learning his real identity. At that point, authorities found &#8220;several bottles filled with gasoline and stuffed with rags&#8221; inside his backpack, police said.
Alsaidi also allegedly possessed a “written map of the area,” including a nearby train station and the words, “You see the mosque,” which appeared to be in reference to the Prayer Center of Orland Park, Shaw Local reported.
Prosecutors determined that Alsaidi had &#8220;an active order of protection listing residents and addresses in Orland Park,&#8221; according to the outlet. They also found that he &#8220;has twice been determined to be an inadmissible alien, once in 2024 and again in 2025, making him a flight risk.&#8221;
Still, Will County Judge Theodore Jarz granted Alsaidi&#8217;s pretrial release on Sunday and ordered him to remain at an Oak Forest residence with a GPS monitor, according to Shaw Local.
Alsaidi is charged with felony unlawful possession of a weapon and misdemeanor obstructing identification.
The Jordanian national crossed the border into California illegally in 2024 before being released into the country under the Biden administration, DHS said. He also had a prior arrest for domestic battery.

An Illinois maintenance worker was trapped inside a gas station sign 130 feet in the air for over six hours on Tuesday. 
AJ Gow was doing repair work on a gas station sign near Interstate 55 right before 11:00 a.m. when his telescopic boom lift malfunctioned, leaving him 13 stories in the air.
At around 2:00 p.m., the Wilmington Fire Protection District received a call about the stranded man. Its Technical Rescue Team, “specializing in confined space, collapse, and high angle rescue,” was sent to help. 
The fire crew soon realized that their 100-foot ladders were not long enough to help Gow.
“No ladders or stairs built into the sign pole were present eliminating the possibility of rescue team personnel ascending to the victim’s location as would normally occur in a high angle rescue,” the Wilmington Fire Protection District Deputy Chief Todd Friddle <a href="https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064452889694">said</a>. “The victim’s location was also beyond fire department ladder truck capabilities.”
The Wilmington fire department found a boom lift in a town around 17 miles away that could ascend the distance and wheeled it to the site.
In the meantime, an aerial drone monitored the man, who gave an optimistic thumbs-up.
At around 4:00 p.m., the maintenance worker was lifted down and “returned to safety with no victim or rescuer injuries,” the report concluded.
Gow thanked local officials for their help in saving him.
“Thank you to every department that showed up for me today,” the maintenance worker <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/24/us-news/maintenance-worker-trapped-inside-130-foot-tall-illinois-gas-station-sign-but-still-manages-to-give-thumbs-up/">posted</a> on Facebook. “It was greatly appreciated! Seeing that lift roll up with police escorts was the highlight of my day for sure!!”
Gow also <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10164774301749712&amp;set=a.439218559711">posted</a> a photo of himself standing inside the sign in the comments of one of his posts, telling one of his friends, “I was up there on this. [I] couldn&#8217;t fully stand either and it kept swaying with the wind. It was miserable.”
Besides feeling severe dehydration and anxiety, Gow stated that he is fine.
“My adrenaline was pumping once I saw that lift arriving and [it] gave me a 2nd wind. After the adrenaline crash, I felt like crap all night and still do.”

Former President Barack Obama said Thursday that America’s Founding Fathers “fell terribly short” when they adopted the Declaration of Independence in 1776 because they did not immediately abolish slavery. 
Obama made the remarks ahead of the official opening of his sprawling presidential library in Chicago, flanked by other former presidents, including Bill Clinton, George Bush, and Joe Biden. &#8220;In forming our union, the founders fell terribly short of the Declaration&#8217;s promise, leaving slavery intact, allowing states to restrict the franchise to white men who owned property,” Obama said of the document&#8217;s proclamation that &#8220;all men are created equal&#8221; and are &#8220;endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.&#8221;
“But in drafting a Constitution and a Bill of rights, they did have the foresight, the genius, to provide us with a framework that allows each generation to make our union more perfect,” Obama added.

The Obama family has been infamously critical of America’s past, with former first lady Michelle Obama once claiming that the first time she was ever proud of the United States as an adult was during her husband’s first presidential campaign. 
&#8220;For the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback,” she said on the campaign trail in 2008. 
Obama’s comments come as the nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration.
In recognition of that milestone, President Donald Trump has promised to have the “largest fireworks show in history” to celebrate Independence Day. 
Trump said that the festivities will kick off on June 24 with music performed by the Army and Marine Corps military bands and Lee Greenwood. He said that Air Force fighter jets and stealth bombers would fly over for the ceremony taking place on the National Mall.

Illinois Democratic Governor J.B. Pritzker stuck his foot in his mouth once again (somehow finding room) when he attacked President Donald Trump on Tuesday and was roundly mocked for doing so.
Trump addressed the situation in Chicago on Tuesday morning when he was asked by a reporter, “Mr. President, have you planned any thought into potentially endorsing someone to run against J.B. Pritzker, like Darren Bailey?”
“Well, I like Darren Bailey. J.B. Pritzker is a slob of a governor,” Trump replied. “You know, he could call me and I&#8217;d send the National Guard and Chicago would have no crime. Look at Washington, D.C. Did you see the crime stats? It&#8217;s down to like nothing. People go to restaurants now, new restaurants. &#8230; We have a beautiful city. We have very little crime, almost no crime. And we could have the same thing in Chicago. All he&#8217;d have to do is say, &#8216;President, I don&#8217;t want to have any crime in Chicago.&#8217; Can you help me out?’ Three months. Chicago would be a different place.”

The White House said the National Guard troops would protect federal personnel and property — like ICE facilities — where violent demonstrations are either happening or expected. The memo called for protecting federal law enforcement officials who are “performing federal functions.”
The war between Trump and Pritzker has been going on for some time; in June 2024, while Trump was campaigning for the presidency, Trump targeted Pritzker, <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/112626680945709862">writing</a> on Truth Social:

In an appearance that would make Machiavelli blush, Illinois Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker took to the airwaves to project the very authoritarianism he claims to despise onto his political rivals.
Speaking on &#8220;Meet the Press Now,&#8221; the billionaire heir didn’t just criticize the Trump administration; he essentially promised a long-term &#8220;lawfare&#8221; campaign against officials who dare to enforce federal immigration law.
Pritzker’s rhetoric was nothing short of a declaration of judicial war. He accused ICE and CBP agents of &#8220;invading&#8221; Chicago and &#8220;tackling&#8221; citizens. But rather than focusing on policy, Pritzker shifted into the role of a vengeful prosecutor.
He touted an &#8220;accountability commission&#8221; tasked with gathering evidence for future trials. The target list? High-ranking officials like Kash Patel, Kristi Noem, and Tom Homan. Pritzker’s chilling promise — &#8220;We are coming after them&#8221; — sounded less like a champion of due process and more like a man orchestrating a political purge. He admitted that while he might not have the power today, he is willing to wait years for a friendly administration to weaponize the courts against these individuals.
The irony reached a fever pitch when the conversation turned to the recent assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. This is the Pritzker Paradox: a man who threatens to hunt down government officials through the legal system and tells his followers to harass his opponents, yet has the audacity to blame others for a toxic political climate. By vowing to prosecute his enemies while simultaneously calling for &#8220;softened&#8221; language, Pritzker isn’t fighting authoritarianism — he’s providing a masterclass in it. For the Illinois Governor, &#8220;civility&#8221; is apparently a one-way street, and the law is simply a tool to be stored away until it can be used to bury his enemies.

Sheridan Gorman&#8217;s father is decrying the sanctuary policies that resulted in his daughter&#8217;s alleged killer being out on the streets.
Venezuelan national <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-steps-in-after-illegal-immigrant-accused-of-slaying-college-freshman">Jose Medina</a>, 25, allegedly gunned down the 18-year-old Loyola University freshman in Chicago last month. At the time, Gorman was walking with her friends around 1 a.m. to look for the northern lights near the Chicago lakefront.
Before that, Medina had crossed the border illegally in May of 2023 and was subsequently released into the country.
He was caught allegedly shoplifting from a Chicago Macy&#8217;s that June, according to the Chicago Tribune. When the illegal immigrant failed to appear for his hearing in the case, a warrant was sworn out for his arrest.
Sheridan&#8217;s father is now arguing that local authorities should have handed Medina over to federal authorities at the time due to his lack of immigration status.
&#8220;There needs to be some cooperation between state and local government and federal officials. When someone commits a crime and they&#8217;ve been here illegally, there needs to be cooperation,&#8221; Sheridan&#8217;s father, Thomas Gorman, told CBS News in an interview that aired Wednesday.
&#8220;He was arrested for, yes, a nonviolent crime, but he was also here illegally. In our mind, he should&#8217;ve been handed over to the feds at that point,&#8221; the grieving father added.
Sheridan&#8217;s mother said they were told their daughter likely saved her friends&#8217; lives the night of her murder.
&#8220;He, like, moved towards her threateningly,&#8221; Jessica Gorman, Sheridan&#8217;s mother, told CBS News of Medina&#8217;s actions that night. &#8220;She turned around and she warned her friends that there was a man with a gun, and you need to run. And they ran.&#8221;
Sheridan was able to run about 40 feet before she was shot in the back and neck, Thomas said.
&#8220;They say it was a senseless tragedy. It wasn&#8217;t. It was a murder. It was a preventable murder,&#8221; Jessica said.
Medina was charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder in the first degree, three counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm, and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer with local authorities, but it is not likely to force any action due to sanctuary laws in Illinois.
Before he was released into the country after crossing the border, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-era-illegal-dubbed-likely-to-flee-now-accused-in-college-student-murder">Border Patrol agents</a> said that Medina was &#8220;likely to abscond,&#8221; according to federal documents that were recently obtained by House Judiciary Committee Republicans.
The agents also noted that Medina didn’t make any asylum claims, writing that he did not “fear harm or persecution” if returned to Venezuela.
Meanwhile, Medina&#8217;s defense has argued that the Venezuelan national is developmentally delayed and can&#8217;t read or write after being shot in the head during a 2018 robbery in Colombia, <a href="https://wgntv.com/news/wgn-investigates/what-we-know-about-loyola-murder-suspect-jose-medina/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to WGN.
