What’s it like to enjoy dessert with your family uninterrupted? Fans of Halo Top are invited to find out.
The ice cream brand is introducing a unique new product: the Silent (à la) Mode Spoon. This golden-hued utensil comes with an embedded NFC (near-field communication) chip that can be set to activate Do Not Disturb mode on both iPhone and Android smartphones. 
The idea is to encourage users to unplug during dessert time without the constant dings and pings from social media — an issue that plagues family time these days. 
“Blending technology with indulgence, this tricked-out utensil connects to your smartphone with a simple tap, creating a seamless ‘phones down, spoons up’ experience,” the item description <a href="https://shop.ilovewells.com/product/halo-top-silent-la-mode-spoon-coming-may-15th/OKQWU6W7EZZLM6YHC6YSVLKM">reads</a>. “Designed for easy setup, the spoon uses a discreet NFC connection that is compatible with most smartphones, including iPhone and Android devices. Once connected, you can quietly savor every spoonful of your favorite Halo Top flavor.”
Silent Mode Spoon is being offered at the low price of $4.90, which, of course, is a nod to the fact that a full pint of Halo Top is only 490 total calories. 
Setup takes just a minute and only has to be done once. iPhone users can use the &#8220;Shortcuts&#8221; app to scan the chip inside the Halo Top logo fastened to the end of the spoon, name the spoon once it&#8217;s detected, and create a shortcut that activates Do Not Disturb when the spoon touches your phone.
Android users will need to download the &#8220;NFC Tasks&#8221; app and connect the spoon. After that, your phone will automatically be set to Do Not Disturb when the spoon is tapped against it.
The built-in chip means this spoon is hand-wash only. 
A silent spoon is just the latest marketing gimmick aimed at disconnecting us from technology. Last month, Chick-fil-A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/i-made-my-parents-try-chick-fil-as-phone-free-challenge-but-i-didnt-see-this-coming">went viral</a> for promoting “chicken coops” to stash cell phones while eating meals in-store. If everyone at the table participates, then diners receive a free “Icedream” cone as a reward for staying present with fellow guests — and with their chicken sandwiches.

Radical left-wing ice cream brand Ben &amp; Jerry’s said in a federal court filing that they believe their parent company, Unilever, violated the merger agreement with the removal of the company’s CEO David Stever.
The filing submitted late on Tuesday said that any decisions regarding a CEO’s removal must come after a consultation with an advisory committee from the Ben &amp; Jerry’s board, per <a href="https://apnews.com/article/unilever-ben-jerrys-ice-cream-ceo-activism-f0dfc60035b7a3e57e11421f5494c0c7">Associated Press</a>. Ben &amp; Jerry’s asserts that Stever was terminated earlier this month due to his outspoken political activism.
&#8220;Unilever has repeatedly threatened Ben &amp; Jerry&#8217;s personnel, including CEO David Stever, should they fail to comply with Unilever&#8217;s efforts to silence the social mission,&#8221; the filing <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/food/2025/03/19/ben-and-jerrys-ceo-political-posts/82548333007/">said</a>.
Unilever issued a statement on the situation on Wednesday.
“Regrettably, despite repeated attempts to engage the board and follow the correct process, we are disappointed that the confidentiality of an employee career conversation has been made public,” a spokesperson for the company said.
Unilever acquired the Vermont-based specialty ice cream brand Ben &amp; Jerry’s in 2000 for $326 million. The relationship between the brand and the parent company has been fraught recently, especially in the current tense political climate.
Ben &amp; Jerry’s has always openly espoused radical left-wing doctrine. In November, the ice cream retailer sued Unilever in federal court in New York, accusing it of silencing Ben &amp; Jerry’s statements in support of Palestinians.
The Vermont-based ice cream maker also said in the complaint that its board intended to release a post mentioning abortion, climate change, minimum wage, and universal health care. The revised lawsuit said that Unilever President Peter ter Kulve “unilaterally barred Ben &amp; Jerry’s from issuing the post because it specifically mentioned ‘Donald Trump.’”
“According to Mr. ter Kelve, despite four decades of progressive social activism—and years of challenging the Trump administration’s policies specifically—criticizing Trump was now too taboo for the brand synonymous with ‘Peace, Love, and Ice Cream,’” the lawsuit says.
Tuesday’s filing was an amendment to the original lawsuit filed in November.
More recently, the company celebrated National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ben-jerrys-demolished-on-x-for-post-praising-abortion-providers">post</a> on social media.
“Today is National Abortion Provider Appreciation Day! We stand with abortion providers today and every day. Learn more and take action now,” the post read, along with a graphic that stated: “Abortion care providers are being threatened across the country. Here’s why we need to stand with them today and every day.”
On the fourth of July in 2023, the company’s official social media account posted, “This 4th of July, it&#8217;s high time we recognize that the US exists on stolen Indigenous land and commit to returning it.”

A rep for Klondike, owned by Unilever, confirmed that the product would no longer be available after July due to increased demand for its other products.

“Over the past two years, we have experienced an unprecedented spike in demand across our portfolio and have had to make very tough decisions to ensure availability of our full portfolio nationwide,” a Klondike representative said, as <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/klondike-discontinues-choco-taco/2022/07/26/6c151fe4-0cf7-11ed-88e8-c58dc3dbaee2_story.html">reported</a> by The Washington Post. “A necessary but unfortunate part of this process is that we sometimes must discontinue products, even a beloved item like Choco Taco.”
The novelty dessert item consisted of vanilla ice cream in a taco-shaped waffle cone which was partially covered with milk chocolate and topped with peanuts. It was invented by Alan Drazen in 1983, the publication noted.
Choco Taco was available at Taco Bell locations briefly in February in celebration of Klondike’s 100 year anniversary.
Fans on Twitter were devastated to find out that the Choco Taco would be going away. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) jokingly told his 1 million Twitter followers that he’d be taking drastic measures to save the classic dessert offering.

&#8220;Discontinuing the Choco Taco has been the worst thing to happen to the Hispanic community since the word Latinx,&#8221; someone else wrote.

“Look we can all remember it fondly, but like a lot of things that have died — it wasn’t as good as we remember,” another person mused. “Realistically: the shell was often too pliable, the ice cream was mostly flavorless air, and the sweetest ingredients were the memories.”
News of the Choco Taco’s demise came just days after ice cream maker Good Humor confirmed they were halting production on Toasted Almond Bars, another dessert favorite. Good Humor also blamed production problems on its decision to cut less popular novelty items in favor of better sellers.

Art collective MSCHF — the same group that faced backlash last year for making “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lil-nas-x-satan-shoes-sell-out-in-seconds">Satan Shoes</a>” with rapper Lil Nas X — began selling popsicles bearing names like “bite Bezos” for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, “munch Musk” for Tesla CEO Elon Musk, “suck Zuck” for Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, “snack on Jack” for Alibaba founder Jack Ma, and “gobble Gates” for Microsoft founder Bill Gates, according to <a href="https://qz.com/2187189/billionaire-shaped-popsicles-allow-you-to-eat-the-rich/">Quartz</a>. MSCHF is also offering its products across Los Angeles.
Despite promoting slogans like &#8220;Eat the Rich,&#8221; MSCHF appears to be making bank. The popsicles are twice as expensive as normal ice pops, according to Quartz.

Disdain for billionaires also exists among many Democratic lawmakers. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/stop-projecting-elon-musk-blasts-elizabeth-warren-for-saying-hes-freeloading-off-everyone-else">asserted</a> on Twitter last year that the “rigged tax code” ought to be changed so that Musk will “stop freeloading off everyone else.”

A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/detroit">Detroit</a>-based vegan ice cream shop has come under fire for its policy to refuse to serve armor-clad <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/police">police officers</a>.
Cold Truth owner owner Tim Mahoney shared his store&#8217;s new policy via an Instagram story Thursday. The post showed a Detroit Police car parked on the wrong side of the street in front of the shop with a caption that read, “we can tolerate the parking however you please, but we will not serve anyone wearing body armor.”
Mahoney followed up later with a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/facebook">Facebook</a> post that clarified the position.
“Cold Truth is a family/community ice cream spot. There are times when various units come through and are outfitted in heavy duty tactical gear, it is disturbing and unsettling for some of the families in our space,” the post <a href="https://www.facebook.com/coldtruth313">said</a>. 
“In the last 24 hours It has come to my attention that the City of Detroit outfits EMS and FIRE with armor and this is not my concern. It’s the heavy duty military dress that I’m hoping the city can find a way to minimize in our public spaces.”
Screenshots of the original post caught fire online, which resulted in dozens of readers flooding the establishment with one-star reviews, ABC affiliate WXYZ Detroit <a href="https://www.wxyz.com/news/detroit-ice-cream-shop-defends-online-post-saying-police-in-body-armor-wont-be-served">reported</a>. 
“We’re definitely getting national people kind of coming in and weighing in and calling and stuff like that,” owner Tim Mahoney told the outlet. “It&#8217;s unfortunate people are spending their time doing this.”
The ice cream shop owner said they’ve never turned law enforcement away.
“(We&#8217;re) not anti-police,&#8221; Mahoney continued. &#8220;We just think the militarization of the dress and the cars being blacked out, it’s intimidating.”
“I am vehemently against the heavy tactical gear and I want to be apart of the conversation that minimizes that,&#8221; Mahoney said. “It&#8217;s just the uniform, it&#8217;s the Kevlar, it’s that dress. We ask that after the shift, please come by.”
Detroit Police Department Chief James White blasted the shop for its stance in a statement. 
&#8220;Law enforcement is a dangerous profession,&#8221; White wrote. &#8220;Body armor provides our officers protection and is an essential part of the police uniform. It is the desire of each and every member of the Detroit Police Department to fulfill their duties as a law enforcement officer and at the end of their shift return home to their loved ones.&#8221;
Many members of the community seemed to side with the police.
“You know, police officers wear body armor for the same reason firefighters and paramedics do,” one Facebook comment with almost 500 likes says. “People shoot at them, and they need to be protected. And if you ever saw pictures of the armor military personnel wear, you would know that it is not the same. But, you hate cops, so you should just admit that.”
“As some who has lived in Detroit all my life and I’m not talking about the surrounding areas of Detroit, as a black female with black brothers/sisters, as someone who has protested police brutality, as someone with family in some of the worst parts of Detroit. I’m tired of y’all fake woke liberals,” another person wrote. 
“We literally have one of the deadliest zip codes in the country just a few weeks ago multiple police cars were lit up on different days. If them walking around with gear on to keep safe makes you uncomfortable go back to the suburbs. If you live in Detroit you should know downtown is wild in the summer period.”

I scream, you scream, we all scream — especially <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden">President Joe Biden</a> — at the rising cost of ice cream.
On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm">released</a> a whopper of a Consumer Price Index report showing that year-over-year <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/inflation">inflation</a> rose 8.6% in May 2022 — breaking a 40-year record.
Most Americans will pay attention to the <a href="https://twitter.com/jackikotkiewicz/status/1535240341787496450?s=20&amp;t=2NzGo7wlBTuyhWO2nKwLCg">fact</a> that in the last year gas rose 48.7%, fuel and oil were up 106.7%, and meat, poultry, and fish rose 13.1%. Biden, however, may start to better understand Americans&#8217; economic woes when realizes that <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.htm">his prized ice cream has gone up 9.6%</a> in price year-over-year.
The report will undoubtedly cause more stress for the president as he struggles to stay afloat in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/poll">polls</a>, but also because the self-described &#8220;ice cream guy&#8221; will now have to pay more money for one of his favorite foods — like all Americans.
On June 2, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/02/politics/joe-biden-messaging-struggles/index.html">reported</a> that Biden was grappling with how to be a president because, unlike when he was second-in-command under President Barack Obama, he simply cannot discuss &#8220;serious&#8221; topics while purchasing frozen dairy treats.
CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/02/politics/joe-biden-messaging-struggles/index.html">opined</a>: &#8220;The country is pulling itself apart, pandemic infections keep coming, inflation keeps rising, a new crisis on top of new crisis arrives daily and Biden can&#8217;t see a way to address that while also being the looser, happier, more sympathetic, lovingly Onion-parody inspiring, aviator-wearing, vanilla chip cone-licking guy &#8212; an image that was the core of why he got elected in the first place.&#8221;
It seems that the state of the union has been a bit of a downer for the president who was looking to leisurely enjoy his late 70s.
&#8220;He has to speak to very serious things,&#8221; one White House staffer told CNN, &#8220;and you can&#8217;t do that getting ice cream.&#8221;
Yet — strangely enough — if Biden had spent more time getting ice cream in a store, then he would likely see the cost of his cone increasing with each trip.
Maybe then he would begin to understand that rising costs are hurting the American people and forcing them to change their eating habits and other behaviors.
On Monday, The Daily Wire <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/americans-changing-the-way-they-buy-groceries-as-inflation-soars-study-finds">reported</a> that a recent BMO Real Financial Progress Index, a quarterly survey from BMO and Ipsos, revealed that 42% of surveyed adults &#8220;are changing how they shop for groceries,&#8221; including &#8220;opting for cheaper items, avoiding brand names and buying only the essentials.&#8221;
The president has maintained that economic anxiety is occurring because — as he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-on-jimmy-kimmel-live-blaming-republicans-praising-himself-and-rambling-incoherently">told</a> Jimmy Kimmel on Tuesday — he has not been able to communicate all the wonderful policies that he has enacted for the American people.
It is unclear how Biden would like to be communicating, but it is reasonable to assume that he does not want to start calling small business managers smarta**es as he did in 2010.
As vice president, Biden visited Kopp&#8217;s Frozen Custard Shop in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As the video below shows, he entered the store and yelled, &#8220;Where&#8217;s the ice cream?&#8221; After being reminded it was a frozen custard store, he said, &#8220;Oh, where&#8217;s the custard?&#8221; and began to help himself to the tasty product behind the counter.
Upon checkout, Biden asked, &#8220;How much do I owe you?&#8221; The store manager jokingly replied, &#8220;Lower our taxes, and we&#8217;ll call it even.&#8221; The vice president seemed rankled by the comment.
Biden walked away but moments later returned, and said: &#8220;Why don&#8217;t you say something nice instead of being such a smarta** all the time?&#8221;

Interestingly enough, Biden also allegedly made a similar comment to White House reporters this past week. On Wednesday, Politico <a href="https://www.politico.com/newsletters/west-wing-playbook/2022/06/08/biden-to-media-be-better-00038244">reported</a> that there &#8220;is growing frustration by the president and his family that he is not receiving the kind of generally more positive coverage they believe he deserves.&#8221; The outlet added that Biden took the time to blast reporters aboard Air Force One for not giving him more credit on his economic recovery efforts in an off-the-record meeting.
Some of that credit includes his ability to feel the American people&#8217;s pain, apparently. White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre <a href="https://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2022/06/07/white_houses_jean-pierre_the_economy_is_in_a_better_place_than_it_has_been_historically.html">often repeats</a> that Biden &#8220;understands very personally&#8221; how rising prices can impact a family&#8217;s budget. The president himself has <a href="https://twitter.com/RNCResearch/status/1509590256462532615?s=20&amp;t=2NzGo7wlBTuyhWO2nKwLCg">said</a> he &#8220;grew up in a family like many of you where the price of a gallon of gasoline went up, it was discussed at the kitchen table.&#8221;
Of course, gas prices were <a href="https://www.realclearmarkets.com/articles/2022/02/22/president_biden_just_told_a_monster_whopper_that_both_sides_missed_817680.html">mostly flat during his childhood</a> and that time period in his life was more than 60 years ago.
If he is looking to connect with the American people in a better way about inflation, perhaps he should start paying more attention to rising ice cream prices.
Better yet, he can start enacting actual policies that shrink government spending and which will slow down inflation — including lowering taxes as requested by that Kopp&#8217;s Custard manager.

&#8220;The president has nothing on his schedule today aside from the PDB,&#8221; a reporter said. &#8220;Can you shed any light on how he&#8217;s spending his day?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, let&#8217;s see, um, this morning I think he had some policy meetings, uh, also a PDB meeting,&#8221; Psaki said. &#8220;Uh, he, um, later this afternoon, uh, I think is doing some remarks review. During Tuesday&#8217;s press briefing, Psaki also addressed Biden calling Fox News reporter Peter Doocy a &#8220;stupid son of a b****&#8221; during an event yesterday.
Biden made the remark when Doocy <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-called-doocy-after-calling-him-a-stupid-son-of-a-b-doocy-reveals-what-he-said">asked</a> him, “Do you think inflation is a political liability for midterms?”
“It’s a great asset, more inflation,” Biden responded. “What a stupid son of a b****.”
“The President, the President called Peter, and [Peter Doocy] confirmed this, so this is only why I’m speaking to this, and if you have private conversations with the president, I will assure you I’m not going to convey that on your behalf,” Psaki said. “But Peter spoke to this, the President called him, he conveyed to him that it was nothing personal man and also acknowledged that all of you are going to ask him a range of questions. So I think that speaks for itself.”
Psaki did not say that Biden apologized for calling Doocy a “stupid son of a b****.”

In a world where masks are required, prompting acts of desperation, it was only a matter of time before it came to this: On the evening of January 1, in the city of Godoy Cruz in the western Argentine province of Mendoza, a young woman, for reasons unknown, entered an ice cream parlor where she was apparently instructed to put on a mask, and without a mask on her, stripped off her dress, leaving her in her bra and underwear as an entranced father who was already in the parlor with what looked like his three adolescent daughters tried his darndest to pretend he was not interested.
“In the CCTV footage, a father and his three daughters are seen approaching the counter to place their order as the woman enters the parlour, apparently in her undies,” <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10365009/Woman-strips-underwear-use-dress-facemask-ice-cream-store-Argentina.html">The Daily Mail</a> reported, adding, “However, the half-naked woman is told to put on a mask while she tries to tie her black dress around her head. The woman apparently protests as the father decides to lift his mask over his nose to avoid being told off as well. She then gives up trying to tie the dress and leaves the store after being refused service.”
According to Cronica, the woman was accompanied by 10 other people, none of whom had a face mask; she allegedly told the staff at the parlor, “Don&#8217;t ask for my face mask, I&#8217;m putting it on.” Cronica added that the group purchased 11 ice creams after someone found a mask.

You may only remove your face mask outside as long as you keep a 2-meter distance between yourself and other people. Each jurisdiction/province might have different approaches to this rule. The Buenos Aires Times <a href="https://www.batimes.com.ar/news/argentina/regional-governments-express-unease-at-rolling-back-of-facemask-rules.phtml">reported</a> in September:
<blockquote>At least three regional governments in Argentina are not planning to immediately adhere to the Casa Rosada’s planned relaxation of coronavirus restrictions, especially those regarding the use of facemasks while outdoors, with several others contemplating similar action.

Four members of the House of Representatives asked the Securities and Exchange Commission to examine Ben &amp; Jerry’s halt on ice cream sales in certain parts of Israel.
As <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/leftist-ben-jerrys-targets-israel-we-wont-sell-ice-cream-in-judea-and-samaria">The Daily Wire</a> reported earlier this year, Ben &amp; Jerry’s — which often endorses left-leaning policies — decided to stop selling its products in East Jerusalem and the West Bank. The company, wholly owned by Unilever yet retaining its own Board of Directors, said that it is “inconsistent with our values” to sell in “Occupied Palestinian Territory.”
The <a href="https://jewishinsider.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/29094120/Unilever-Congressional-Letter_Final.pdf">letter</a> to SEC chairman Gary Gensler — signed by Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY), Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY), Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) — argued that the company’s policy is inconsistent with many state laws:
<blockquote>We have been informed that, Ben &amp; Jerry&#8217;s has halted the sale of its products in the West Bank and East Jerusalem. We also understand that the actions by Ben &amp; Jerry’s disregards numerous United States’ state laws, which requires a state to divest from companies that participate in such boycotts. To date, Arizona, Florida, New Jersey, New York, and Texas have taken steps to divest of Unilever&#8217;s common shares. Additionally, 30 other states have enacted &#8220;anti-BDS&#8221; laws, all of which may consider divestiture in response to public appeal.</blockquote>
The lawmakers also noted that Unilever’s federal filings neglected to acknowledge the business risks of divesting from certain parts of Israel:
<blockquote>It is also our understanding that Unilever may have violated Rule 10b-5 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 relating to material omissions in the 6-K. Given the potential negative impact of such material omissions, which is why we believe the SEC should ask Unilever to revise the “Principal Risk Factors” section of their 6-K to fully and accurately disclose the potential material adverse consequences to the company based by the claimed independence of the Ben &amp; Jerry’s Board of Directors, and the specific potential effects of the Ben &amp; Jerry’s boycott.
We have also been informed that the 6-K filed by Unilever fails to include specific language that details the potential adverse consequences to Unilever created by the Ben &amp; Jerry’s boycott in its “Principal Risk Factors” section.</blockquote>
Indeed, New York’s Common Retirement Fund <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nys-huge-pension-fund-yanks-over-100-million-from-ben-jerrys-parent-company">announced</a> in October that it would jettison its $111 million in Unilever holdings.
“After a thorough review, the New York State Common Retirement Fund will divest its equity holdings in Unilever PLC,” said New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli, a Democrat. “Our review of the activities of the company, and its subsidiary Ben &amp; Jerry’s, found they engaged in BDS activities under our pension fund’s policy.”
In August, franchise owners also <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/backlash-from-inside-ben-jerrys-franchisees-losing-money-want-israel-boycott-gone">asked</a> Ben &amp; Jerry’s to rescind the boycott.
“There is a danger that the pursuit of social justice will descend into political correctness or result in the adoption of overly simplistic solutions by people who share a single view of the world that misconstrue complex problems in which multiple claims of justice are implicated,” the letter stated. “The imposition of such narrow prescriptions does not advance social justice or the pursuit of a values-led business in any meaningful way.”
