A mysterious 80-foot structure has been unearthed with the help of hurricanes Ian and Nicole, major storms that battered <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/florida" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida</a> in the last few months of the hurricane season.
The structure was <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/mysterious-structure-florida-beach-volusia-county-hurricane-erosion/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discovered</a> Thanksgiving weekend during a low tide in Daytona Beach Shores, Florida, just a short walk from &#8220;the world&#8217;s most famous beach.&#8221; The structure protrudes in two lines made up of wood pieces. It was initially unclear what the structure was, but archeologists who examined it Tuesday believe they have the answer.
“The erosion is unprecedented at this point,” said Volusia Beach Safety Deputy Chief Tammy Malphurs. “We haven’t seen this kind of erosion in a very long time. I’ve been on the beach probably 25 years that’s the first time I&#8217;ve seen it exposed.”
Archeologists who studied the discovery believe it is a cargo ship from the 1800s. What was left of it was buried under five feet of sand. The researchers believe the potential merchant ship was traveling along the coast, before it was sunk by a storm. They say the remains are extremely fragile and strongly warned against messing with the site. Removing anything from the area is a third-degree felony because it is considered an archeological site, <a href="https://www.wftv.com/news/local/volusia-county/mystery-object-unearthed-by-volusia-beach-erosion-could-be-18th-century-ship-archaeologists-say/FALCRQCQGRBCJOT52W5CXSOI7E/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to WFTV9.

&#8220;If you have a random, wooden shipwreck on the beach, it&#8217;s most likely a wreck from the 1800s and that&#8217;s because there were so many more ships sailing in the 1800s than in the centuries before,&#8221; Chuck Meide, Director of the Lighthouse Archaeological Maritime Program, <a href="https://www.clickorlando.com/news/local/2022/12/06/mystery-debris-on-florida-beach-solved-heres-what-archaeologists-think-it-is/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Click Orlando.
State archeologists are planning further investigation into the wooden remains in an attempt to age the wood, including examining maritime records to potentially identify the ship. Daytona-area beaches are known for their hard-packed sand, and many areas allow driving on the beach. Hurricanes Ian and Nicole removed layers of the area’s sand. In the wake of Nicole, Governor Ron DeSantis <a href="https://www.flgov.com/2022/11/11/governor-ron-desantis-joins-local-officials-to-assess-damage-from-hurricane-nicole-announces-20-million-for-emergency-beach-repair/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> $20 million in emergency beach repair to help coastal flooding and beach erosion.
“This is obviously not as significant as a storm as Hurricane Ian was, but coming on the heels of that, you’re seeing communities, particularly in the Volusia County area, that had a lot of erosion on the coastline,” DeSantis said last month.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Monday announced plans to provide over $60 million to help homeowners rebuild in the wake of Hurricane Ian, and took a swipe at FEMA for not kicking into the program.
Some $25 million will go to purchasing building materials which will be provided to verified non-profit organizations to make damaged homes habitable. More than 2,000 people have already applied for the aid, said DeSantis.
“What we’ve done is launch a first-of-its-kind, state-led housing initiative to provide travel trailers and recreational vehicles to impacted Floridians who may not be eligible for FEMA’s direct housing program,” DeSantis said at a morning news conference in Punta Gorda also attended by First Lady Casey DeSantis. “We also think we can do it quicker and more efficiently than FEMA.
Another $35.2 million from the Florida Disaster Fund, which Casey DeSantis set up in the days before the storm struck Florida&#8217;s Gulf Coast in last September, will fund the state&#8217;s home repair program.

FEMA has provided nearly $3 billion in federal grants, disaster loans and flood insurance payments to Florida following <a class="multivariate" href="https://www.newsweek.com/hurricane-ian-aftermath-videos-show-widespread-destruction-across-florida-1747601" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hurricane Ian recovery</a>. But when DeSantis asked the agency to chip in $25 million to help with the state initiative dubbed UniteFlorida, the agency declined, he said.
&#8220;Unfortunately, we got word last week that FEMA had denied our request for funding our state-led housing initiative, citing their &#8216;limited authority,'&#8221; he said. &#8220;But we&#8217;re not just gonna sit there and take no for an answer; we&#8217;re going to figure out what we can do. So that’s what we’re doing today; we want to cut through bureaucracy; we want to bring relief to impacted Floridians regardless of whether FEMA wants to be a part of that.&#8221;
Casey DeSantis said nonprofits and volunteers are providing the labor and the state and generous donors are funding the materials as the state bounces back from the devastating storm.
&#8220;This is where you really break through the bureaucracy and you maximize the dollars that are coming in,&#8221; Casey DeSantis said. &#8220;It&#8217;s not a government go at it alone, but it&#8217;s really everybody uniting for the benefit of everybody here who are affected by the hurricane.&#8221;
She said people from all over the state and nation kicked into the Florida Recovery Fund, which has taken in $57 million. The money will buy needed supplies for volunteers helping to rebuild homes, she said.
&#8220;When these people are coming from all over the country, from Colorado and Washington state to volunteer their time, to help rebuild people’s homes., we’re going to help supplement their efforts through the generosity of the Florida fund,” she said.

Country music singer Luke Bryan showed signs of cracking to the online outrage mob over the weekend after leftists fumed over his decision to let Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) appear on stage with him at a concert late last week to benefit victims of Hurricane Ian.
Bryan’s concert in Jacksonville, Florida, which was part of his ‘Raised Up Right’ tour, had been postponed several times in recent weeks due to the hurricane.
&#8220;I typically don&#8217;t respond to stuff when I&#8217;m getting run down on a social platform but here&#8217;s the deal,&#8221; Bryan wrote on Twitter. &#8220;I understand Governor DeSantis is a very polarizing figure. But I grew up in a country where if a governor ask you if they can come and raise awareness to help victims of a natural disaster you help.&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;ve generally stayed out of politics throughout my career,&#8221; Bryan continued. &#8220;I knew people would chatter about this but for me the more important piece was If I am going to come back there a few weeks after a large portion of people have been affected by a natural disaster in a state where people have been good to me this felt right. Raise awareness, have a little fun between the GA and FL college fans before the game and do what I love on stage. This is all I am saying about this.&#8221;
Christina Pushaw, rapid response director for DeSantis&#8217; campaign, responded: &#8220;Reminder to all public figures, corporations, etc&#8230; Twitter isn&#8217;t real life. The haters might be loud and well-organized online, but in reality, they are a small portion of the population, especially here in Florida.&#8221;
&#8220;Weak @lukebryan, very weak,&#8221; political commentator John Cardillo responded. &#8220;@GovRonDeSantis is only polarizing to people who hate freedom, this nation, and want to groom kids. Do better man.&#8221;
DeSantis <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/massive-crowd-erupts-as-desantis-comes-on-stage-at-luke-bryant-concert-usa-usa-usa">was greeted by loud cheers</a> as he walked on stage and tossed hats into the crowd.
“All you Florida voters, if you want to keep the state of Florida free, we need you to vote on November 8th,” the governor said.
Shortly after the governor made the remarks, the crowd started chanting, “USA! USA! USA!”
“The state of Florida had to deal with the major hurricane last month, and it’s not easy to deal with. It’s hurt a lot of people,” DeSantis added. “Though I can tell you this, show me any other state that can rebuild bridges in three days. I don’t think you can find that.”
DeSantis <a href="https://www.flgov.com/2022/10/28/governor-ron-desantis-issues-updates-on-hurricane-ian-recovery-24/" data-reader-unique-id="45">noted</a> that more than $50 million had been raised to help the victims of the hurricane, and then he directed people to donate money through the Florida Disaster Fund.
Bryan then said he would donate proceeds from the show in Estero, Florida, to the fund to help victims.
“Because of the hurricane, they had to use the venue that I was performing in as a shelter. Well, we’ve been going back and forth, we didn’t know if it was too soon to play or not but the area of Estero said, ‘Get your a** to Estero,’ so, we’re doing a concert,” Bryan said. “So, what we’re going to do is give a large portion of the proceeds in Estero, Florida … to everybody that’s bought tickets, kept the ticket, and spending the money … I’m donating that money to the great state of Florida.”

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis explained during an interview Friday night how he got President Joe Biden to cooperate with efforts to assist Florida after the state was hit by one of the most powerful hurricanes to ever hit the country late last month.
DeSantis&#8217; remarks come after Biden previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/desantis-fires-back-at-biden-after-no-contact-before-hurricane-hits-we-dont-have-time-for-pettiness">had</a> not called the governor prior to the hurricane hitting the state despite making time to call several local mayors. Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-finally-speaks-to-desantis-following-backlash-over-not-reaching-out-ahead-of-hurricane">finally called</a> the day before the storm hit, but only after he faced backlash for appearing to put politics over people.
“Well, I’ll tell you what. I mean, what I told him is that the media was making a big deal that he wasn’t talking to me or whatever, and I told him, I was like, &#8216;Look, I want to work together for these people. Because these people are from all walks of life. Republicans, Democrats, they expect us to be able to put our differences aside,&#8217;” DeSantis said. “And nobody has done more to stand up to this administration than me in Florida over the last year and a half, as you know.&#8221;
&#8220;But you’ve got to be willing to work together to help folks. And so I think the response from local, state, and federal has been pretty seamless,&#8221; he continued. “And I think that’s a testament that, you know what, we as a country can get things done when it counts.”

DeSantis called out Biden back in late September when Biden still had not contacted the governor ahead of Hurricane Ian, which was a near Category 5 hurricane, making landfall.
The remarks from DeSantis come after Biden held separate calls with Mayor Jane Castor of Tampa, Mayor Ken Welch of St. Petersburg, and Mayor Frank Hibbard of Clearwater. An official White House readout of the calls made no mention of the president speaking with DeSantis.
“So I have not personally spoken with the president, but FEMA has approved our pre-landfall request,” DeSantis said during a press conference when asked at the time if he had spoken to Biden. “We feel like we have a good relationship with FEMA. You know, I’m happy to brief the president if he’s interested in hearing what we’re doing in Florida, you know, my view on all this is like you got people’s lives at stake, you got their property at stake, and we don’t have time for pettiness. We got to work together to make sure we’re doing the best job for them.”

<a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/sunny-hostin/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sunny Hostin</a> admitted on Thursday that Florida Republican Governor <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-desantis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ron DeSantis</a> was &#8220;brilliant&#8221; — but immediately afterward, she insisted that his intelligence was just more proof that &#8220;cruelty is the point&#8221; of his governing style.
Hostin joined her co-hosts on ABC&#8217;s midday talk show &#8220;The View,&#8221; where they began by discussing the aftermath of Hurricane Ian and the fact that DeSantis and President Joe Biden — despite their many personal and political differences — had been largely cooperating on storm-related issues.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg tried to minimize DeSantis&#8217; efforts, arguing that he couldn&#8217;t very well refuse to accept federal help just to spite Biden.

&#8220;That&#8217;s the beauty of a president,&#8221; Goldberg said, apparently suggesting that Biden was doing the lion&#8217;s share of the work in Florida&#8217;s recovery while DeSantis was simply waiting around for the handouts. She went on to ask whether accepting help from the Biden administration might hurt DeSantis&#8217; &#8220;brand&#8221; within the GOP, arguing that he couldn&#8217;t turn it down either.
Ana Navarro echoed Goldberg but added that most Floridians — having been through hurricanes in the past — understood when to play politics and when to focus on solutions, even if that meant working with political opponents.

Hostin weighed in then, making sure to first take a shot at former President Donald Trump.
&#8220;I think what&#8217;s always disappointed me about DeSantis is he&#8217;s a very different political candidate than, let&#8217;s say, a President Trump,&#8221; she explained. &#8220;I firmly believe that President Trump is just not the smartest guy. I really — I don&#8217;t — I think he&#8217;s educated but I just don&#8217;t think he&#8217;s that smart.&#8221;
She went on to argue that Trump was &#8220;raised&#8221; to be a racist and a homophobe — before pivoting to list DeSantis&#8217; accomplishments.
&#8220;When you look at DeSantis, he graduated from Yale University. He went to Harvard Law School. He earned a commission in the U.S. Navy as a JAG officer,&#8221; Hostin said of the man she has repeatedly referred to as &#8220;<a href="https://dailywire.com/news/watch-sunny-hostin-keeps-repeating-death-santis-over-and-over-again/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Death-Santis</a>,&#8221; adding, &#8220;He was a federal prosecutor who did what I did, was where he targeted and convicted child predators. He still serves in the United States [Navy] Reserve.&#8221;
&#8220;So what that tells me is he&#8217;s brilliant,&#8221; Hostin summarized before pivoting to the attack: &#8220;And the cruelty is the point, when he&#8217;s sending immigrants all over the place and not taking care of them.&#8221;

Conservatives on social media mocked the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/biden-administration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Biden administration</a> and had fun with a photo of Florida Governor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ron-desantis" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ron DeSantis</a> at the presidential podium Wednesday.
DeSantis attended a press conference with President Joe Biden and state and local officials Wednesday afternoon. Live footage showed the Florida governor speaking behind a podium emblazoned with the seal of the President of the United States. DeSantis is considered a top contender to challenge Biden in 2024, and critics mocked the poor planning and optics of the photo.
The Twitter storm started when Republican Governors Association Communications Director Jesse Hunt shared a picture of Fox News&#8217; coverage of the press conference on Twitter. &#8220;It’s moments like this when many in the national press should realize their preconceived notions about Ron DeSantis and his leadership style are way off base,&#8221; Hunt wrote.
The photo showed DeSantis speaking behind the presidential podium while Biden and Florida Democratic Commissioner of Agriculture Nikki Fried, who previously ran to challenge DeSantis for the governorship, stood behind him.

Conservatives on Twitter quickly pointed out the irony of giving one of Biden&#8217;s chief political rivals an easy photo op behind a presidential podium, and mocked the White House advance media team for it.

&#8220;The Biden Advance Team letting DeSantis speak from behind the presidential seal is something to behold,&#8221; conservative radio host <a href="https://twitter.com/EWErickson/status/1577736045797511168?s=20&amp;t=HT4vFjLBfLkv_GzkTxQxHQ">Erick Erickson</a> wrote.

Meanwhile, DeSantis and Biden struck a note of unity while discussing relief efforts in the wake of Hurricane Ian Wednesday. Biden, who has a notoriously adversarial relationship with DeSantis and has traded barbs repeatedly with the Republican governor over major policies, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-praises-desantis-for-remarkable-response-to-hurricane-ian-i-think-hes-done-a-good-job" target="_blank" rel="noopener">praised</a> him for effectively managing the state&#8217;s response to the disaster. “What the governor’s done is pretty remarkable,” Biden admitted at the press conference. “I think he’s done a good job.”
It wasn&#8217;t all love between the two leaders, however. Later in the press briefing, Biden declared that the debate around climate change was over in the wake of the disaster. &#8220;I think the one thing [the hurricane] has ended is the discussion about whether or not there is climate change and we should do something about it.&#8221;

Biden took significant heat last week after he avoided reaching out to DeSantis ahead of the hurricane making landfall despite finding the time to reach out to several local mayors.
Biden eventually reached out after facing backlash, including from DeSantis, for apparently playing partisan politics as tens of thousands of Americans were about to have their lives changed forever.
“You know, I’m happy to brief the president if he’s interested in hearing what we’re doing in Florida, you know, my view on all this is like you got people’s lives at stake, you got their property at stake, and we don’t have time for pettiness,&#8221; DeSantis <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/desantis-fires-back-at-biden-after-no-contact-before-hurricane-hits-we-dont-have-time-for-pettiness">said</a> at the time. &#8220;We got to work together to make sure we’re doing the best job for them.”

Biden and first lady Jill Biden traveled to the Sunshine State after Ian&#8217;s high winds and devastating storm surge dealt billions of dollars in damages to Florida, with much of the devastation focused on the Gulf Coast near Fort Myers and the surrounding areas.

Biden, wearing a blue and white striped shirt, could be seen shaking hands with Fort Myers Beach Mayor Ray Murphy, who wore a bucket hat and sunglasses, and the audio first captured Murphy thanking Biden for making the trip.
&#8220;Thanks for everything,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Thanks for coming down, we appreciate it.&#8221;
The next few comments were unintelligible, but after a moment, Biden laughs, &#8220;No one f***s with a Biden.&#8221;
&#8220;You&#8217;re God damn right,&#8221; Murphy laughed.

A top Florida sheriff responded to the arrests of several illegal aliens in his county for looting following the aftermath of the devastating Hurricane Ian by saying that the residents of his county will be safe from criminals seeking to victimize people.
The words from Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno come after Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis warned criminals to not even think about looting because of what many Floridians have in their home.
&#8220;I can tell you in the state of Florida, you never know what may be lurking behind somebody&#8217;s home,&#8221; DeSantis <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ron-desantis-delivers-blunt-message-for-those-thinking-about-looting-in-wake-of-hurricane">said</a>. &#8220;And I would not want to chance that if I were you given that we are a Second Amendment state.&#8221;
Marceno <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/arrested-looters-lee-county-were-us-illegally-says-sheriff-not-tolerating-it">held</a> a press conference Tuesday where he addressed the arrests of four suspected looters, three of who are illegal aliens. Law enforcement officials arrested Omar Mejia Ortiz, 33, Valerie Celeste Salcedo Mena, 26, Brandon Mauricio Araya, 20, and Steve Eduardo Sanchez Araya, 20, on charges of burglarizing unoccupied structure during a state of emergency.
&#8220;As far as looting — we have law and order in Lee County. We have law and order in our great state of Florida, and we always will,&#8221; said Marceno. &#8220;Right now, we have four cases of looting, and I&#8217;m proud to say they&#8217;re behind bars where they belong. Our residents are going to be safe.&#8221;
Marceno said that Mena, and both Arayas &#8220;are here illegally in this country.&#8221;
&#8220;They were located and arrested,&#8221; Marceno added. &#8220;I&#8217;m not tolerating it again.&#8221;
Marceno echoed the warning that DeSantis previously gave about the fact that looters are risking their lives because many Floridians are armed.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not playing. We&#8217;re not playing. We have law and order and great residents will be safe and secure. We&#8217;ve had arrests on these incidents,&#8221; Marceno added. &#8220;You might walk in. You&#8217;ll be carried out.&#8221;
The arrests come after an illegal alien was <a href="https://www.fox13news.com/news/search-for-suspect-who-killed-pinellas-deputy-closes-i-275-between-gandy-blvd-ulmerton-road">arrested</a> just days before Hurricane Ian clobbered the state for allegedly hitting and killing Deputy Mike Hartwick, who was providing security at a construction site along I-275.
Days before Hartwick was killed, DeSantis sent 50 illegal aliens to Martha&#8217;s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
“Florida can confirm the two planes with illegal immigrants that arrived in Martha’s Vineyard today were part of the state’s relocation program to transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations,” an official for DeSantis’ office <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ron-desantis-sends-two-planes-illegal-immigrants-marthas-vineyard" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement at the time. “States like Massachusetts, New York, and California will better facilitate the care of these individuals who they have invited into our country’ by incentivizing illegal immigration through their designation as ‘sanctuary states’ and support for the Biden Administration’s open border policies.”

Aviation Survival Technician Second Class Zach Loesch earned praise in a Friday phone call from the commander in chief for kicking in a wall to save a trapped, wheelchair-bound woman and her husband.
“I told him how proud of him I was and thanked him for all the work he and his Coasties are doing to save lives,” Biden <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/09/30/readout-of-president-joe-bidens-call-with-lieutenant-commander-christopher-hooper-and-aviation-survival-technician-second-class-zach-loesch-of-the-u-s-coast-guard/">said</a> in a press release that thanked Loesch and Lieutenant Commander Christopher Hooper “for the heroic work that they and their Coast Guard colleagues have performed during search and rescue operations in response to Hurricane Ian.”
But the next time Loesch hears from a federal official, it could be to learn his career is over. Loesch said in an interview that he had applied for a religious exemption to avoid taking the COVID vaccine but does not expect it to be honored.
Jean-Pierre was asked about the matter during Tuesday&#8217;s press briefing.
&#8220;The president recently praised a group of Coast Guard rescue swimmers. One of them reportedly faces termination because he isn’t vaccinated,&#8221; a reporter said. &#8220;I’m curious, given the threats that we’re facing abroad, would the president ever reconsider that vaccination requirement or consider issuing more exemptions?&#8221;
