After the attempted assassination of Donald Trump in Butler, PA, there was an outpouring of very primal and vicious rage from all corners of the Left — both on social media, and in the mainstream corporate outlets. For the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-deafening-silence-of-academia-and-corporate-america-after-the-trump-assassination-attempt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first time</a> in American history, the near-assassination of a president didn&#8217;t bring about a period of national mourning, or condemnations from Hollywood and academia. Instead, the overwhelming sentiment was, in effect, that Donald Trump had it coming. It continued even after their second assassination attempt on Trump, which led the the New York Times to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/16/us/politics/trump-violence-assassination-attempt.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explain</a> that Trump was blameworthy because he had &#8220;stirred&#8221; anger among the public. Many other publications followed suit.
Obviously, blaming Trump for his own attempted assassination was always demented. But we were supposed to believe that it was acceptable to blame Trump, at least in part, because he&#8217;s such a polarizing figure. The Left insisted that they aren&#8217;t always this bloodthirsty. They said that they didn&#8217;t want to see every single one of their enemies get murdered in public, live on national television. Instead, they said that they just wanted to see Donald Trump get murdered in public, because he&#8217;s basically Hitler, and Hitler is a special case. Once Hitler&#8217;s out of the way, they said, they&#8217;d return to being normal, functioning citizens who don&#8217;t want to murder their enemies all the time.
This is a defense that was never believable. But after the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in Manhattan this week, even the Left is completely abandoning the whole pretense. If anything, the Left seems to be gloating over the execution of Thompson even more than the Trump assassination attempt. It&#8217;s not an exaggeration to say that I&#8217;ve never seen anything quite like this. They are declaring, without any hint of reservation, that it&#8217;s “open season” on everyone they don&#8217;t like. They are gleefully celebrating the horrific demise of a human being. Whether you&#8217;re a politician or a business executive, it doesn&#8217;t matter. They don&#8217;t want you fired, they don&#8217;t want you in prison — they want you dead.
Former Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz couldn&#8217;t have been any more explicit about this. She posted an <a href="https://substack.com/home/post/p-152626476" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> on her newsletter entitled, &#8220;Yes, &#8216;we&#8217; want insurance executives dead.&#8221; She also posted an image of party balloons with the celebratory caption, &#8220;CEO Down.&#8221; And she wrote that, while people shouldn&#8217;t &#8220;murder&#8221; these executives, it&#8217;s &#8220;normal&#8221; to wish death upon them.

Separately, in response to a news article about how Blue Cross Blue Shield recently announced that it won&#8217;t pay for anesthesia past a certain point, Lorenz <a href="https://x.com/JeremiahDJohns/status/1864728908098146642" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>: &#8220;And people wonder why we want these executives dead.&#8221; She also <a href="https://x.com/Legal_Fil/status/1864460915174678961" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> the name and picture of the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield, effectively suggesting that someone assassinate her. There&#8217;s really no other way to interpret it. This is the same woman who says you&#8217;re a psychopath if you go outside without a mask and &#8220;rawdog the air.&#8221; But wishing death on healthcare executives is apparently completely fine.
I could spend the next month going through all of the reactions like this from the Left. Suffice it to say, this kind of response was not unusual. For example, Columbia University professor Anthony Zenkus, who apparently specializes in the field of &#8220;social work,&#8221; <a href="https://x.com/anthonyzenkus/status/1864415627844178087" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>: &#8220;Today, we mourn the death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, gunned down&#8230;. wait, I&#8217;m sorry &#8211; today we mourn the deaths of the 68,000 Americans who needlessly die each year so that insurance company execs like Brian Thompson can become multimillionaires.&#8221;
Then there was this response from someone named &#8220;Angie,&#8221; who said that the murder of the CEO had made her feel &#8220;reinvigorated&#8221;:

These people are euphoric over the murder of a man with a family, supposedly because they&#8217;re not happy with his company&#8217;s insurance coverage. And now, like Taylor Lorenz, they&#8217;re turning their attention — and their threats — towards other CEOs.
And it appears to be working. Within hours of the online campaign to harass and threaten the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield, the company announced a reversal of its planned policy on anesthesia coverage. They now <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/05/health/anthem-blue-cross-blue-shield-anesthesia-claim-limits/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">say</a> they&#8217;re going to &#8220;halt&#8221; their proposed limits on coverage for anesthesia during surgery. The company put out <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/12/05/health/anthem-blue-cross-blue-shield-anesthesia-claim-limits/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a statement</a> reading: “There has been significant widespread misinformation about an update to our anesthesia policy. As a result, we have decided to not proceed with this policy change. To be clear, it never was and never will be the policy of Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield to not pay for medically necessary anesthesia services. The proposed update to the policy was only designed to clarify the appropriateness of anesthesia consistent with well-established clinical guidelines.”
On the surface, this looks like a victory for the assassin and his supporters. The assassin kills one insurance company CEO, and then the next day, an insurance company rescinds its plans to limit coverage. It&#8217;s the kind of thing that seems like a major victory if you have no idea how the health insurance industry works.
The catch is that, as a result of this reversal, anesthesiologists no longer have any incentive to stop overbilling — which has been a major problem in their field in recent years. Blue Cross Blue Shield, along with other insurance companies, was <a href="https://x.com/cremieuxrecueil/status/1864856183544168544" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trying</a> to force anesthesiologists to accept the standard, per-procedure Medicare rate for their services. Anesthesiologists hated that idea, because they&#8217;d prefer to keep charging high rates for hours that they weren&#8217;t even working. And now, because of a harassment campaign by Left-wing activists in the wake of a CEO&#8217;s murder, those anesthesiologists have won. In other words, the same people who complain that healthcare costs are too high might have just made it a lot easier for anesthesiologists to jack up healthcare costs even further.
It&#8217;s a development that underscores the complexity of the situation here. There are nuances that are lost when you&#8217;re re-enacting the French Revolution and murdering people in the street, instead of discussing complicated issues like reasonable people are supposed to do, in the &#8220;democracy&#8221; that the Left told us was so important.
To be clear, there&#8217;s certainly evidence that companies like UnitedHealthcare are becoming much more aggressive in denying certain kinds of claims. A <a href="https://www.hsgac.senate.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024.10.17-PSI-Majority-Staff-Report-on-Medicare-Advantage.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Senate report</a> from this year, for example, found that: &#8220;In 2019, UnitedHealthcare issued an initial denial to 8.7 percent of the post-acute care prior authorization requests it received; by 2022, it denied 22.7 percent of all such requests, an increase of 172 percent. &#8230; Its 2022 denial rate for skilled nursing facilities was nine times higher than it was three years before.&#8221; 
The Democrat-led Senate committee concluded that, &#8220;Medicare Advantage insurers are intentionally targeting a costly but critical area of medicine — substituting judgment about medical necessity with a calculation about financial gain.&#8221;
What the report doesn&#8217;t mention is that UnitedHealthCare has profit margins of around 6%. After tax, it&#8217;s really under 4%. That means that, as a matter of basic finance, they&#8217;re not driving up profits to some ridiculous degree. Like any business, they have a lot of operating costs. They assume risks. If they started approving every claim, they&#8217;d go out of business overnight.

The other important element here that Democrats overlook, for obvious reasons, is that Democrats are the ones who implemented coverage mandates, which inevitably raise the price of insurance for everyone. We saw that immediately after Obamacare, which was supposed to lower everyone&#8217;s premiums. In reality, it increased them dramatically. 
The point I&#8217;m making here is not that UnitedHealthcare is blameless, or that the insurance industry in general shouldn&#8217;t be criticized. Or that the CEO that was just killed is some kind of saint. I have no idea what kind of guy he is. He could be the very face of evil, or he could be a decent guy, or somewhere in between. I have no clue. What I&#8217;m saying is that there are no open-and-shut, clear-cut solutions to this problem. Any kind of solution requires real debate and discussion, not murdering executives in the streets. And that should make you wonder why, exactly, the Left is so supportive of Brian Thompson&#8217;s murder. If they don&#8217;t actually care about fixing the health insurance industry, then what do they care about?
It would be one thing if these Left-wing activists had the view that sometimes, when things get bad enough, an assassin needs to step up and take someone out for the good of the community. I&#8217;m not endorsing that view, obviously, but at least there&#8217;s a kind of moral coherence there. If they really believed that United Healthcare is essentially murdering people, and profiting from unspeakable moral evils, then you can see why some of these depraved Leftists might get excited by the prospect of eliminating one of the company&#8217;s executives.
But any semblance of coherence goes out the window the moment you zoom out a hundred feet, and look at how these same activists are reacting to the trial of Daniel Penny. If these people really thought that it&#8217;s good and righteous to eliminate a clear and present danger to the community — as they do with the CEO of UnitedHealthcare — then why exactly do they have any objection to what Daniel Penny did? Why did they storm the subways in protest after Jordan Neely&#8217;s death, chanting &#8220;No justice, no peace&#8221;? Why have they been outside the courthouse for every day of deliberations, pressuring the jurors to convict? Why isn&#8217;t Taylor Lorenz writing articles about how it&#8217;s &#8220;normal&#8221; to be happy that Jordan Neely is dead? Why aren&#8217;t the Columbia professors telling us not to mourn his death?
Even if we assume that Daniel Penny actually murdered Jordan Neely, which isn&#8217;t true, what&#8217;s the objection? Even if you pretend that Daniel Penny put a silencer on a pistol, waited until 6 AM until Jordan Neely started walking into a Hilton Hotel to terrorize some shareholder meeting, and then shot him in the back — then why exactly would Leftists be upset?
There&#8217;s no way to dispute that Jordan Neely was a menace to the community. He violently assaulted multiple people, including women who were just trying to take a ride on the subway. He was threatening an entire subway car of innocent passengers the day he died. His Michael Jackson impersonation didn&#8217;t seem particularly noteworthy. He was, in every respect, a net negative on society — a clear threat to the safety and well-being of the working class. So why exactly is anyone on the Left upset that Daniel Penny took action to eliminate the threat posed by Jordan Neely, while they&#8217;re busy swooning over the assassin of the UnitedHealthCare CEO in Manhattan?
There&#8217;s really only one way to make sense of it. In their world view, Jordan Neely — as a black drug addict criminal — has a life of greater value than a white male health insurance CEO. Nobody wants to say that out loud, but it&#8217;s true. If Brian Thompson had been the CEO of the same company, but he was a black woman, you would not be seeing any of the gloating and celebration. You&#8217;d probably be seeing the opposite, in fact. The Washington Post would be working overtime to find the assassin and dox everyone in his family. They&#8217;d re-hire Taylor Lorenz and have her track down the white supremacist killer, along with every single social media post he&#8217;s made since he was in kindergarten. They&#8217;d probably solve the case in about ten minutes.

But as it stands, his victim happened to fit the demographic profile of a greedy, sub-human colonizer. In other words, he was white. It didn&#8217;t even matter to them that this CEO was probably a liberal. His company&#8217;s PAC certainly donated a lot of money to Kamala Harris. That wasn&#8217;t important to them. 
So we&#8217;re left with murderous, unrestrained anti-white race hatred under the guise of concern about health insurance costs — a problem that none of these people actually have any interest in fixing, because all they do when they&#8217;re in power is make insurance premiums even higher. Their primary interest is destabilizing this country by dehumanizing as many white people as possible. And if that means killing some of them, so be it.
That explains the response to what happened in Butler. And it explains the response to what just happened in Midtown Manhattan in front of the Hilton Hotel. If you&#8217;re a white conservative Christian, and you think that these people wouldn&#8217;t gloat the same exact way if you were murdered while you were on your way to work, then you have no idea what the Left is capable of, or what they really believe.
At this point, we don&#8217;t know why exactly Brian Thompson was executed. But we do know why these ghouls are celebrating his assassin, even as they demonize men like Daniel Penny. Pay attention to what they&#8217;re saying. Spend some time reading their euphoric posts on social media. And soon enough you&#8217;ll find that, even if you&#8217;re not the CEO of a major health insurance company, they&#8217;ll have no problem coming for you next.

The Revolutionary Left is creeping into the mainstream.
The shooting of Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, has unleashed a wave of evil from members of the Left. Thompson wasn’t a criminal. He wasn’t even an advocate of death the way abortionists or euthanasia advocates are. (And murder of an abortionist or euthanasia advocate would be unjustifiable morally in a democratic system.) His great sin is that he was the head of a company that exists within a mixed private-public healthcare framework, and that he did his job.
But for the Left, if you hate the system, you are morally justified in murdering anyone who acts within the system. That means that if, like one Bernie Sanders follower, you believe that private healthcare “kills Americans,” you can murder Congressmen. It means that if you don’t like that health insurers often deny coverage for certain pre-existing conditions or non-covered doctors or medication, you can murder the CEO of a health insurance company.
This is revolutionary leftist evil.
It’s evil for a couple reasons.
First, violence is not justified in a democracy, where your say is part of the process. Revolution to overthrow tyranny is justified — but the tyranny must be real, and the violence must be the last resort. Neither is true in this case. If you do perceive America to be a tyranny and violence to be the proper response, that is a call for unending violence until the system itself is changed. It’s a call for revolution.
Second, violence against members of private industry isn’t even a protest of public policy. It’s a protest against the very system of free markets. Thompson was not responsible for America’s healthcare system any more than the head of CVS is responsible for America’s tariff system. Directing hatred against Thompson is not about shaping public policy. It’s about trying to threaten anyone who engages in free markets at all. This person could have just as easily shot a doctor who decided not to perform a surgery, or a bank worker who denied a loan application.

This was the philosophy of the Red Army Faction in Germany in the 1970s, also known as the Baader-Meinhof Gang. They weren’t seeking a better world. They were seeking to tear down the world of capitalism on behalf of Marxist evil. They routinely quoted Herbert Marcuse and Antonio Gramsci; they called for revolution. Ulrike Meinhof, a Left-wing radical journalist, led the way, famously stating, “Protest is when I say this does not please me. Resistance is when I ensure what does not please me occurs no more.”
That philosophy led the Baader-Meinhof Gang to engage in routine assassination of everyone from industrialists like Hanns Martin Schleyer to Dresdner Bank head Jurgen Ponto to American servicemen in Germany. These people can also become tools of enemy regimes, as Baader-Meinhof was. Baader-Meinhof worked with the Stasi and other Soviet agents to foment chaos, and coordinated with Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and Palestine Liberation Organization.
The origins of Baader-Meinhof came from the 1968 student protests in Germany. They were Marxist in orientation, influenced by radical race riots in the United States, and allied with radicals all over the globe; Meinhof wrote an essay defending the Munich Massacre of Israeli Olympians by Palestinian terrorists. Stefan Aust, who literally wrote the book on the Baader-Meinhof Gang, pointed out:

What do we make of the journalists and academics who proclaim soft support for the murder of Brian Thompson? That we are on the verge of something terrible. After all, this follows hard on the Black Lives Matters riots, which were indulged and even celebrated by many on the Left; the Hamas takeover of college campuses, again indulged and celebrated by Left-wing elite; and now, the not-so-quiet applause for the assassination of a private healthcare CEO.
The toxic brew of radicalism and violence that characterized the 1970s in Germany and the United States is bubbling again. And why not? Many of those who engaged in precisely that violence are now well-respected American academics: Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn found high positions in academia after spending years planting bombs with the Weather Underground.

Certainly a desperate Left, spurred to action by constant talk of the “fascistic” takeover of Donald Trump, can be counted on to increase their support for violence. Two assassination attempts against Trump in the last six months are merely an indicator of just how deeply this rot is spreading.
This must be stopped. It can only be stopped by a widespread rejection on all sides of the aisle for this type of violence. The shooter in this case should be arrested and given the death penalty. Seedbeds for such Marxist-Leninist violence on college campuses should be defunded. Those like Taylor Lorenz should be rejected from polite society.
The Brian Thompson shooting is a bleeding edge indicator of where the country could be going. All it takes is someone with organizational capacity on the Left to launch America into a new era of domestic terrorism, with the tacit “moral” support of much of the journalistic establishment.

On Wednesday, a shocking assassination occurred in New York City, and the Left celebrated. 
Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare&#8217;s insurance arm, was fatally shot outside a hotel in Midtown, the center of Manhattan&#8217;s business and tourist districts.
Police said it was a targeted attack. The video footage makes it seem clear this was a professional hit. Thompson walked past the shooter, who appeared to emerge from the shadows. The shooter shot Thompson, shot him again, then calmly walked by him and appeared to shoot him a third time. 
The suspect fled on foot after the shooting. Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said this was not a random act of violence, <a href="https://www.mediaite.com/crime/nypd-commissioner-says-shooting-of-unitedhealthcare-ceo-was-premeditated-preplanned-targeted-attack/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">adding</a>:
<blockquote>It appears the suspect was lying in wait for several minutes. And as the victim was walking to the conference hotel, the suspect approached from behind and fired several rounds, striking the victim at least once in the back and at least once in the right calf. … I want to be clear — at this time, every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack. </blockquote>
Paulette Thompson, Thompson’s widow, told <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/live-blog/unitedhealthcare-ceo-shooting-live-updates-new-york-shell-casings-rcna182979" target="_blank" rel="noopener">NBC News</a>, “There had been some threats. Basically, I don’t know, a lack of coverage? I don’t know details. I just know that he said there were some people that had been threatening him.&#8221; 
There are at least two things to be said about this.
First: New York City is governed horribly. When assassinations occur in public places in New York City, that reflects how law enforcement is deployed and what law enforcement is allowed to do. When violence is commonplace on New York streets, that goes to governance. 
Take, for example, the case of Daniel Penny, the Marine veteran who took down a crazed drug abuser named Jordan Neely with a submission hold on the New York subway as Neely was threatening other members of the public in this subway car. Despite the fact that Neely’s death could be attributed to drugs in his system or his reaction to the lack of air to the brain, New York City is bringing a manslaughter or murder charge because the city is governed horribly.

But second, something else is going on here: the left-wing reaction to the murder of Brian Thompson. 
Anthony Zenkus, a social work professor at Columbia and Adelphi University whose X bio <a href="https://x.com/anthonyzenkus/status/1864415627844178087" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reads</a>, “Trauma expert. Anti-violence. Commie,” a Communist who’s apparently against violence, reacted to Thompson’s death this way: “Today, we mourn the death of United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson, gunned down&#8230;. wait, I&#8217;m sorry &#8211; today we mourn the deaths of the 68,000 Americans who needlessly die each year so that insurance company execs like Brian Thompson can become multimillionaires.”

So he sounds like he’s implying Thompson deserved to die because UnitedHealthcare is a mildly profitable company. 
They are a mildly profitable company — meaning, when it comes to the health insurance industry, the profit margin is generally below 2%. This is not an industry in which the profit margin is 10%, 15%, or 20%. If you take issue with American health insurance and how it is run, that is because of the legal structure that has been set up for health insurance in America.
We could note that health insurance should not be tied to employment, that you should be able to opt into various levels of health insurance rather than basically being shoveled into one of a few categories. We could talk about the fact that an enormous amount of health care should actually be provided just on a pay-for-play basis as opposed to via insurance.
It&#8217;s bizarre that a normal checkup should be covered by insurance. What are you insuring against? That&#8217;s not typically what insurance is for. Insurance is for an unexpected situation you are betting might happen, while the insurance company bets it probably won&#8217;t happen, or at least not in the timeframe you&#8217;re thinking. That is why you have fire insurance; not because you know tomorrow you&#8217;re going to set your house on fire — which would be arson and would violate your insurance policy.
It&#8217;s bizarre that health insurance in the United States works such that it is called insurance, when in reality, it&#8217;s just a kind of subsidized form of group coverage. 
You can have whatever arguments you want with the system. But the idea that because you don&#8217;t like this system, the CEO of a private health care company deserves to die, or at least it is his fault if 68,000 Americans “needlessly die each year so that he can become a multimillionaire,” shows a dramatic lack of understanding of not only markets but of morality.

“Executives are responsible for an unfathomable amount of death and suffering”? That&#8217;s not true. You might not agree with how the insurance companies run their business. You might think the insurance companies go too far in attempting to restrict coverage or find loopholes in their policies that prevent them from having to issue coverage. 
But that&#8217;s what insurance does. It&#8217;s what they are. 
What you&#8217;re really criticizing is the system, the system of private health insurance in the United States, which is a bizarre amalgam of government subsidies. 
Nearly all health care coverage in the United States is, in some form or fashion, government-involved. Even private health care systems are heavily government-regulated.
But that is not UnitedHealthcare&#8217;s fault. Stating it is their fault is like suggesting that if a grocery’s price on bread is at a particular level because the markets have determined there is only that much bread available, that is somehow the grocery’s fault when people can&#8217;t afford that bread.
The idea that if you work for a private health care insurance company you should be murdered is astonishing.
Lorenz concluded, “As someone against death and suffering, I think it&#8217;s good to call out this broken system and the people in power who enable it.”
I have a question. Why is Thompson the one who enables it? I wasn&#8217;t aware that Brian Thompson was a public policy professional working in an arena in which consent was not actually the keystone. What I mean is that if you don&#8217;t want to buy health care insurance via United, don&#8217;t do it or don&#8217;t work for a company that does.
This says something deeper about the far-Left. There’s a reason why a Venn diagram would show only one circle including people who are fine with Brian Thompson getting murdered on the street and people who are pro-Hamas: That reason is the baseline belief of the far-Left&#8217;s system that if you are working within a system they have deemed morally inferior, you deserve to die.
That belief says if someone kills you, you probably had it coming. You are a Kulak, and you deserve to die.
On the other hand, if you work within a system that the hard-Left deems morally praiseworthy or you&#8217;re a member of a “morally praiseworthy group,” you can literally do anything. If your grievance aligns with the view of the Left as they deem in any way legitimate, you can do anything.
This is the same group of people who will suggest, for example, that if you are in the Gaza Strip and you don’t like your situation, that justifies you raping women and murdering babies.
That is the far-Left&#8217;s full-scale belief system.
And Thompson’s death is a perfect example of the Left’s beliefs and how they play out.
What&#8217;s astonishing about this is that the way the Left adjudicates whether a system is morally praiseworthy or morally blameworthy is not based on a utilitarian calculus.
The professor from Columbia who suggested that the private health care system in the United States is responsible for 68,000 deaths doesn&#8217;t actually believe that if you work for an alternative health care system that is government-run and it kills more people, then you deserve to die. He doesn&#8217;t think that purely because his belief is not about a utilitarian calculus for what&#8217;s best for humanity. 
For the Left, it never is. For the Left, it is all about the central moral principle.
What the Left actually cares about is power and control. If the Left controls the system, the system is good. If the Left does not control the system, the system is bad. And if you are a member of that system, then maybe, just maybe, you deserve to die. 
It&#8217;s all a power game. If you&#8217;re a prosecutor and you see a Good Samaritan on the street trying to stop a violent act on a subway, the person who tried to stop the violent act is bad because that person is not of your political ilk. They&#8217;re not part of your team, and so that person ought to be prosecuted for felony murder. 
But if that person is a member of your team, you do your best to let that person off the hook because it&#8217;s all a team sport.

The subjugation of basic liberal principles by Left-wing principles is perfectly obvious here. It&#8217;s the great untold story of the last several decades in American politics.
It used to be that liberals in this country were people who you or I, as a conservative, might disagree with on tax or health care policy.
But as I&#8217;ve said my entire career, there&#8217;s a difference between a liberal and a leftist. A liberal would never argue that because someone works for UnitedHealthcare, that person ought to die or at least be shot. They might say, “This company needs to be run better.” They might object to that particular CEO. But they would never argue that person ought to be morally dispensed with and just shot on the street in the way some of these members of the radical Left are. 
For leftists, all dynamics are power dynamics. To them, the only thing that matters is that their allies control the government gun. Murder is, in their view, just part and parcel of the system.
Sometimes to cook the Left-wing omelet, you have to break a few eggs.
Even if that means murder.

Supreme Court Justice <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/sonia-sotomayor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Sonia Sotomayor</a> drew a wave of backlash when she dismissed concerns about risks associated with gender transition surgeries — particularly among patients who are minors — by arguing that all medical treatments, even aspirin, can have side effects.

Noting that there was always the chance that some would choose to reverse course, or de-transition, Rice posited, &#8220;So it becomes a pure exercise of weighing benefits versus risk and the question of how many minors have to have their bodies irreparably harmed for unproven benefits is one that is best left for —&#8221;
&#8220;I&#8217;m sorry, counselor,&#8221; Sotomayor interrupted then, her tone exaggerated. &#8220;Every medical treatment has a risk. Even taking aspirin.&#8221;
Sotomayor continued down that same path, going on to argue that with &#8220;any medical treatment,&#8221; there would be some who were adversely impacted.

A growing number of Americans think it should be illegal for children to undergo transgender surgeries or similar medical interventions, a new poll shows.
Nearly three-quarters of Americans say they want it to be against the law to provide children with puberty blockers, other drugs, or surgery to help them &#8220;transition from one gender to another,&#8221; according to a new <a href="https://justthenews.com/sites/default/files/2024-11/GCM24-1112%20Topline%20-%20Transgender%20Issues.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> from Napolitan News Service. That&#8217;s 10% higher than the 62% who said so in August, according to the poll.
The spike in opposition to these procedures comes after a tumultuous presidential election where the issue frequently reared its head. President-elect Donald Trump&#8217;s most successful campaign ad noted that Vice President Kamala Harris previously expressed support for taxpayer-funded surgeries for incarcerated illegal migrants.
&#8220;Kamala Harris is for they/them. Donald Trump is for you,&#8221; the ad&#8217;s narrator said.
Three-fourths of Americans think biological males who identify as women should not be allowed to use the women’s locker rooms, showers, and bathrooms, the poll found. Just under 60% also said that if biological men who identify as women are allowed to use women&#8217;s shelters for sexual assault and domestic violence, it will create more risk and trauma for the women who use these shelters.

Nearly 70% said lessons about exploring or changing gender identity should not be taught in public schools. Of those who said these lessons should be taught, 13% said they should be taught in early elementary school. And 73% of Americans said that teachers and schools should be required to notify parents if a student wants to change his or her gender, name, and pronouns.

The poll was conducted by pollster Scott Rasmussen on Wednesday, about a week after Election Day, and surveyed 1,000 registered voters. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points.
Both puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones come with serious health risks.
Puberty blockers can <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/in-depth/pubertal-blockers/art-20459075">affect</a> bone growth and density and cause sexual dysfunction, voice damage, and infertility, among other issues. Cross-sex hormones, which can be estrogen or testosterone, can <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/transgender-young-people-in-u-s-have-nearly-doubled-recently-report-shows" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cause</a> infertility, deadly blood clots, heart attacks, increased cancer risks of the breasts and ovaries, liver dysfunction, worsening psychological illness, and other serious conditions.
Genital surgeries or double mastectomies to remove the breasts of healthy girls who want to appear more masculine are also irreversible.
At least 25 states have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nebraska-supreme-court-upholds-bans-on-abortion-transgender-surgeries-for-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> restrictions on transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for minors.
England and several other European countries, including Finland and Sweden, have also pumped the brakes on transgender medical interventions for children.

The following is an edited transcript of a recent interview between Daily Wire Editor-in-Chief John Bickley and Harmeet Dhillon, managing partner at The Dhillon Law Group.
Post-election polling shows that the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/how-kamalas-focus-on-gender-ideology-cost-her-the-election" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transgender issue</a> was a top three issue that drove voters to Trump and away from Harris. The data comes as more states are shutting down transgender procedures for minors and lawsuits are beginning to mount against healthcare professionals who’ve pushed the trans agenda.

JOHN: Joining us to discuss is Harmeet Dhillon, whose legal firm the Dhillon Law Group has been leading the fight against potentially permanent procedures performed on children. Harmeet, thanks for coming on.
HARMEET: Thanks for having me.
JOHN: First, many have said that the trans agenda – including boys in girls sport and trans surgeries for prisoners and illegal immigrants – was a &#8220;sleeper issue&#8221; this year. We&#8217;ve done some <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harris-pledged-to-use-taxpayer-money-to-fund-sex-change-surgeries-for-illegal-aliens-in-detention-report" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reporting</a> at Daily Wire about this. Do you see data that it did in fact impact this election?
HARMEET: Well, I would say the data that I saw was from the Trump campaign and its allies, and they certainly focused hard on that issue. And I&#8217;m sure that was in response to data. We&#8217;ve done some work, a lot of work actually. We&#8217;ve been a national leader on the issue of suing doctors who mutilate girls and also representing parents whose civil rights are violated by not having access to the information they need to parent their children properly on this issue and many other issues. So we&#8217;ve done a lot of litigation on it. It did pick up in the national pulse. Our client, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/to-the-la-times-get-a-life-i-have-lives-to-save" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Chloe Cole</a>, has been prominently featured by some messaging on these issues. She&#8217;s a girl who detransitioned, now a young woman, and is suing Kaiser Permanente here in California over that. She&#8217;s been a landmark voice on these issues, testifying around the country. I know it has motivated legislatures to change the law and that I think is definitely a talking point in those states. A lot of red states, purple states — it&#8217;s a huge issue. It&#8217;s not a huge issue here in California, even on the opposite side. I don&#8217;t see a lot of activists going to bat for this issue. And so I think we are really within a striking distance of President Trump being able to severely cut back on the prevalence of this issue through cutting back federal funding or other ways to do it. For once, America needs to catch up with Europe and the rest of the world where these procedures are simply not being done, for the most part, on children because they don&#8217;t work.

JOHN: Right, there’s been dramatic movement away from these sorts of procedures in several European countries. Are you seeing progress on this issue in the courts, legally?
HARMEET: No, it&#8217;s too early in the courts. We literally filed the first, second, and third lawsuits on this issue in the country. I think other lawyers are joining us and so these cases are winding their way through the court system or through arbitration because Kaiser tries to force people into arbitration – so do other medical providers. And one of the issues, why there are so few cases, is because there&#8217;s a statute of limitations that are very short and really keep the window very narrow for these young women, largely women, to file lawsuits. And so it&#8217;s heartbreaking, the number of people we simply can&#8217;t help, because of these statute of limitations issues. I do think that&#8217;s going to make a difference. But the bigger and faster and more effective long-term difference is going to be legislatures banning these procedures on children. Medical boards taking away the licenses of doctors who commit medical malpractice, which I believe most of these doctors are doing. I mean, literally you have cases where people go in, some guidance counselor sends them for one session with some rubber stamper who then goes and gets the girl&#8217;s breasts cut off. It&#8217;s shocking and outrageous. You have to go through more hassle to get liposuction, I believe, than to get your breasts cut off as a young girl. So, it&#8217;s insane and it needs to stop. We shouldn&#8217;t rely on the courts and lawyers. We should ask Republican legislatures — and Democrat legislatures, frankly, if they care about humans — to stop this practice.
JOHN: Well, we&#8217;ve seen decisive action here in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/tennessee-asks-scotus-to-uphold-ban-on-trans-surgeries-for-minors-amid-doj-challenge" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tennessee </a>to shut down these potentially permanent procedures for children – that’s been really heartening for those working to end it. As Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania says, Donald Trump is doing some “God-tier level trolling.” Many of the picks he is currently making are both hilarious and kind of wonderful.
Yesterday, Trump made a bunch of controversial picks. His most controversial pick, however, was Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
RFK Jr., of course, ran as a Democrat in 2024, and then was basically ousted from the primaries in favor of Joe Biden. Because the Democratic Party said, “No. No one will run against Joe Biden. He&#8217;s too great and important a president.” And then, of course, they took Biden and tossed him off the back of a train when he died on stage in a debate versus Donald Trump.
So, RFK Jr. immediately flipped. First, he became an independent, and then he finally ended up endorsing Trump. Now, he&#8217;s the leader of the so-called “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) movement, which is a great purpose for RFK Jr.

We had him as a guest on our show <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/is-he-the-last-real-democrat-robert-f-kennedy-jr-member-exclusive">The Sunday Special</a> and he talked extensively about his purpose in making America healthy again. He said, “Listen, many of the biggest issues facing the American people are issues that none of our politicians talk about. Our politicians will talk about tax policy. They&#8217;ll talk about whether to drill or not to drill, but then never talk about the fact that the American people are increasingly unhealthy.”
RFK Jr. went on to say, “If I were in government, my number one job would be to make the American people healthy again. There are a bunch of substances that are in our food and our drink that are banned in Europe and that are replete in all of our products, and they are making us fatter.”
And, by the way, he&#8217;s not wrong about this.
Today, The New York Times published an <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/well/obesity-epidemic-america.html">article titled</a> “Three-Quarters of U.S. Adults Are Now Overweight or Obese.”
This has some downstream effects. Because, as it turns out, when you hear statistics about American life expectancy flatlining, about the fact that people are getting high rates of chronic diseases in the United States, that&#8217;s because of what we are eating, what we&#8217;re drinking, and because we never exercise. There are comparable places around the Earth that have higher life expectancies than we do, and that is not because of our medical system.
It is not because American doctors are worse or American hospitals are worse or anything remotely like that. When somebody in Europe has cancer, they&#8217;re coming to the United States for treatment. The reality is that it&#8217;s not our medical system, per se, that&#8217;s broken. Our medical insurance system is broken. Our medical system is not broken. The thing that is broken is our health care system.
According to <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/well/obesity-epidemic-america.html">The New York Times</a>:
<blockquote>Nearly three-quarters of U.S. adults are overweight or obese, according to a sweeping new study. The findings have wide-reaching implications for the nation’s health and medical costs as it faces a growing burden of weight-related diseases.
The <a href="https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(24)01548-4/fulltext" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a>, published on Thursday in The Lancet, reveals the striking rise of obesity rates nationwide since 1990 — when just over half of adults were overweight or obese — and shows how more people are becoming overweight or obese at younger ages than in the past. Both conditions can raise the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease, and shorten life expectancy.
Without aggressive intervention, they forecast, the number of overweight and obese people will continue to go up — reaching nearly 260 million people in 2050.
The paper defined “overweight” adults as those who were age 25 and over with a body mass index at or over 25, and “obese” adults as those with a B.M.I. at or over 30.</blockquote>
Now, again, there are a number of things the pharmaceutical industry is attempting to do in order to walk that back. Ozempic would be the most obvious example. But if you can take preventative measures so kids aren&#8217;t obese at age seven — and if that means that we look for different solutions inside the FDA or inside the NIH or inside HHS — generally, that&#8217;s a good thing.
Here, for example, was RFK Jr. talking about the sort of products and services that are available to Americans that are not available in other places, because, as he says, the food industry has a giant lobbying arm, which is true.

So, there&#8217;s nothing wrong with the general mission there. How it actually gets applied in real life is going to be the big question. I&#8217;m sure much of that will come up in a confirmation hearing. How much power should the HHS have to outright ban things in your food? How much power should the HHS have, for example, to hold up new drugs?
One of the big problems in the United States is that it is very difficult to get a new pharmaceutical product approved and very expensive. That&#8217;s the reason why pharmaceuticals are so expensive when it comes to the consumer level, because it&#8217;s not just the R&amp;D you have to do to develop a drug. It&#8217;s also that you then have to go through an extraordinarily rigorous process that very often is replete with red tape. So there are a bunch of problems inside FDA, inside NIH. Many of the studies that are being promulgated by NIH are just crap. They&#8217;re terrible. There&#8217;s a lot to do. There&#8217;s a lot of deadwood to clear out right there.
It&#8217;ll be fascinating to see how RFK Jr. does all of that. Obviously, he&#8217;s a trial lawyer and very often the mentality of a trial lawyer is to find the vulnerability of a particular product to cause causation of a health problem. So if there&#8217;s even a remote causative effect of some sort of product on somebody&#8217;s health, then you can sue based on that and you make a lot of money if you&#8217;re a trial lawyer.
However, is that enough of a standard to ban it, or are we going to get more advisory opinions? Right. None of this is particularly clear at this point.
What is clear, though, is that refocusing America on being healthier while also allowing for more innovation in a lot of these areas would definitely be a good target goal.

If you were to guess at the number of people signing up for legal assisted suicide in Canada, you probably guess a few people a year, right? Maybe a few dozen at most?
Try 45,000 people — the population of Palm Springs, California.
That&#8217;s how many people have killed themselves through Canada&#8217;s Medical Assistance In Dying (MAID) program since assisted suicide was legalized in 2016.
The number of deaths is still exploding, with thousands more people taking advantage of the program each year.
A total of 44,958 people have ended their lives through MAID over the seven years from 2016 to 2022, the last year with available data, <a href="https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/hc-sc/documents/services/medical-assistance-dying/annual-report-2022/annual-report-2022.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Health Canada.
In the first year, 1,018 people died. That number nearly tripled the next year to over 2,800 people. Over the next few years, deaths continued to skyrocket, sometimes thousands each year. By 2020, the number of people killed had topped 10,000, and by 2022 the number had reached a whopping 13,241 people, 4.1% <a href="https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/hc-sc/documents/services/medical-assistance-dying/annual-report-2022/annual-report-2022.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">of all</a> deaths in Canada that year.
Canada&#8217;s program has come under scrutiny for its liberal approach to approving applicants, especially people suffering from mental illness.
At first, only adults whose natural death is “reasonably foreseeable” could get approved. In 2021, Canada expanded it to adults whose natural death is not “reasonably foreseeable,” such as those with non-terminal illnesses and disabilities. In 2027 the program <a href="https://www.justice.gc.ca/eng/cj-jp/ad-am/bk-di.html#:~:text=On%20February%201%2C%202024%2C%20the%20Government%20of%20Canada%20introduced%20a,and%20immediately%20came%20into%20force." target="_blank" rel="noopener">will be</a> expanded further to people whose sole reason for wanting to die is a mental health condition.
Already though, Canadians with a history of mental illness have been allowed to end their lives.
Alan Nichols, 61, was hospitalized in 2019 over fears he might be suicidal and asked his brother to “bust him out” as soon as possible. However, within a month he had applied for assisted suicide and was <a href="https://apnews.com/article/covid-science-health-toronto-7c631558a457188d2bd2b5cfd360a867" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed</a>. He listed &#8220;hearing loss&#8221; as the one reason he wanted to die.
Another man, Amir Farsoud, 54, was living with agonizing chronic back pain and took depression and anxiety medication. He wanted to end his life using MAID in 2022 as he was unable to work and lived on government checks and felt there was no way to avoid homelessness when the shared house he rented was listed for sale.
He changed his mind, however, only after good Samaritans stepped up and raised more than $60,000 for him.
“I’m a different person,” Farsoud <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/canadian-man-changes-mind-about-assisted-suicide-after-good-samaritans-step-in" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “I had nothing but darkness, misery, stress and hopelessness. Now I have all the opposite of those things.”
Recently, a chilling exchange between Dr. Ellen Wiebe, who runs an assisted suicide clinic in Canada, and Liz Carr, a comedian, actress and disability rights campaigner made the rounds on social media.

Carr has used a wheelchair ever since an illness when she was just seven years old and is a vocal opponent of assisted suicide. She is concerned about vulnerable people requesting assisted suicide or even feeling compelled to do so.
&#8220;Apart from the fact I don&#8217;t have the desire, I think probably I would be eligible under the Canadian law,&#8221; Carr <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-68951037" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Wiebe.
Wiebe, who also runs an abortion clinic, said she has been involved in more than 400 deaths and called it &#8220;the very best work&#8221; she has ever done.
The clinician has <a href="https://www.thetimes.com/world/us-world/article/ive-helped-hundreds-to-die-my-patients-are-so-grateful-t5dzd5ssz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">killed</a> a businesswoman diagnosed with dementia in her fifties, a military veteran with PTSD and chronic pain, and even a 56-year-old woman with advanced multiple sclerosis who starved herself to make sure her death was “reasonably foreseeable” back when that was a requirement of MAID.
Wiebe injects her patients with a lethal cocktail of drugs that causes unconsciousness, then cardiac or respiratory arrest.
Canada is not the only country where mentally ill people have been euthanized.
In the Netherlands, <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-45117163" target="_blank" rel="noopener">several</a> different women in their 20s have been <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/netherlands-sex-abuse-victim-euthanasia-incurable-ptsd-assisted-suicide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">allowed</a> to die by assisted suicide based on mental suffering alone as well as a 28-year-old autistic woman who <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/columnists/2024/02/02/lauren-hoeve-assisted-dying-suicide-postnatal-depression/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suffered</a> from chronic fatigue.
However, Canada&#8217;s law is one of the most loosely regulated, and the criticism has been fierce, swift, and global.
Earlier this year, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2024/01/27/canada-maid-euthanasia-death-assisted-suicide/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">urged</a> Canada to &#8220;rethink&#8221; its &#8220;risky expansion&#8221; of euthanasia, saying the upcoming expansion to mental illness &#8220;goes too far.&#8221;
&#8220;Many in the grips of psychiatric distress view, temporarily, suicide as their only way out, only to later be grateful they did not kill themselves in the depths of their suffering,&#8221; the editorial board wrote.
Canada’s law is “probably the biggest existential threat to disabled people since the Nazis’ program in Germany in the 1930s,” <a href="https://apnews.com/article/covid-science-health-toronto-7c631558a457188d2bd2b5cfd360a867" target="_blank" rel="noopener">declared</a> Tim Stainton, director of the Canadian Institute for Inclusion and Citizenship at the University of British Columbia.
Even Pope Francis spoke out against the law during his trip to Canada, lamenting the “patients who, in place of affection, are administered death.”
Meanwhile, the bodies are piling up.

A decade after the first state moved to legalize recreational marijuana, the dangerous effects of the drug are coming to light.
Across the country, physicians are seeing more people with marijuana addiction, psychosis including delusions or paranoia, schizophrenia, and a serious syndrome involving severe vomiting as more people use the drug, The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/04/us/cannabis-marijuana-risks-addiction.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found</a>. The outlet examined medical records, insurance data, and spoke to hundreds of doctors and marijuana users.
Emergency rooms are seeing more people present with cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome, a condition involving &#8220;severe vomiting,&#8221; nausea, and pain caused by heavy marijuana consumption. The condition can cause extreme dehydration, seizures, kidney failure, cardiac arrest, and even death. At least eight people have died in the U.S. from the condition, the Times reported.
One Maine pediatrician said she sees teenagers who use marijuana almost all day, every day, “a remarkably scary amount,” and are dependent on it. A Massachusetts psychiatrist said she is seeing more cases of schizophrenia related to cannabis use. Even temporary psychosis from marijuana use can last months in some cases.
Some research suggests that about six million people who use the drug almost daily could have symptoms of cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome.
One emergency room doctor in Aurora, Colorado, said his hospital treats people with the condition daily. A Michigan pediatrician said she sees the syndrome all the time as well.
About 18 million people, nearly a third of all adult users, reported symptoms of cannabis use disorder, meaning they continue to use the drug despite significant negative effects on their lives, a new data analysis of the 2022 U.S. national drug use survey <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/04/us/cannabis-marijuana-risks-addiction.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a>.
Younger users especially tend to misuse the drug. Nearly 17% of people 18 to 25 have cannabis use disorder, now higher than the 15% rate of alcohol use disorder, according to last year&#8217;s National Survey on Drug Use and Health. More than 4.5 million of these young people use the drug every day or almost every day.
This is also concerning since marijuana use affects brain development until around age 25.

More people also use marijuana to ease anxiety and depression amid <a href="https://www.psychiatry.org/news-room/news-releases/annual-poll-adults-express-increasing-anxiousness#:~:text=—%20The%202024%20results%20of%20the,2023%20and%2032%25%20in%202022." target="_blank" rel="noopener">rising</a> <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9483000/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rates</a> of those mental health disorders.
Marijuana is a $33 billion industry in the U.S., and the new products are much more potent than the versions of the drug that were around several decades ago. In the 1990s, marijuana had about 5% THC, the substance that causes the drug&#8217;s &#8220;high.&#8221; Today, some products sold include concentrates with as high as 99% THC.
Only two states limit the amount of THC in most recreational marijuana products.
Recreational marijuana is now legal in 24 states, but it is still illegal under federal law.
Initially, advocates pushed to legalize medical marijuana to ease the suffering of chronically ill people. However, the push largely in Democrat-led states for recreational legalization did not take long, spurred by activists who opposed keeping people convicted of lower-level marijuana offenses in prison, particularly black offenders.

A group of nearly two dozen state attorneys general is warning the American Academy of Pediatrics that it may be breaking the law by continuing to recommend puberty blockers to children who are unhappy with their biological gender despite evidence the drugs cause harm.
On Tuesday, the 21 attorneys general, led by Idaho Attorney General Raúl Labrador, sent a <a href="https://attorneygeneralofidaho-my.sharepoint.com/personal/isaac_considine_ag_idaho_gov/_layouts/15/onedrive.aspx?id=%2Fpersonal%2Fisaac%5Fconsidine%5Fag%5Fidaho%5Fgov%2FDocuments%2F00%20%2D%20PR%2F2024%2D09%2D24%20AAP%20Letter%2F2024%2D09%2D24%20AAP%27s%20Compliance%20with%20State%20Consumer%20Protection%20Laws%2Epdf&amp;parent=%2Fpersonal%2Fisaac%5Fconsidine%5Fag%5Fidaho%5Fgov%2FDocuments%2F00%20%2D%20PR%2F2024%2D09%2D24%20AAP%20Letter&amp;ga=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> warning the Academy that it may be violating a slew of state consumer protection laws.
The group put the Academy &#8220;on notice for possible violations of state consumer protection statutes over its evidence free standards on gender dysphoria care for minors,&#8221; the attorneys general <a href="https://www.ag.idaho.gov/newsroom/attorney-general-labrador-challenges-american-academy-of-pediatrics-to-disclose-gender-dysphoria-guidance-and-methodology/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement.
&#8220;Most concerning, AAP claims that the use of puberty blockers on children is safe and reversible,&#8221; the group wrote, calling that claim &#8220;misleading and deceptive.&#8221;
The Academy&#8217;s guidance is based &#8220;more on political pressure and agendas rather than medical efficacy and sound medical judgement,&#8221; the group wrote.
The attorneys general are demanding the Academy submit specific documentation for its ongoing recommendations of the powerful drugs for gender dysphoric children.
&#8220;Telling parents and children that puberty blockers are &#8216;reversible&#8217; at the very least conveys assurance that no permanent harm or change will occur,&#8221; the attorneys general wrote in their letter. &#8220;But that claim cannot be made in the face of the unstudied and &#8216;novel&#8217; use of puberty blockers to treat gender dysphoria.&#8221;
&#8220;We expect you will address this matter with the same seriousness that we are, and we look forward to receiving your response soon,&#8221; the group wrote.
The Academy represents 67,000 pediatricians across the country.
Puberty blockers can <a href="https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/in-depth/pubertal-blockers/art-20459075">affect</a> bone growth and density and cause sexual dysfunction, voice damage, and infertility, among other issues. Cross-sex hormones, often given to children after they take puberty blockers, which can be estrogen or testosterone can <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/transgender-young-people-in-u-s-have-nearly-doubled-recently-report-shows" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cause</a> infertility, deadly blood clots, heart attacks, increased cancer risks of the breasts and ovaries, liver dysfunction, worsening psychological illness, and other serious conditions.
In Europe, several countries including England, Finland, and Sweden have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/puberty-blockers-ban-upheld-by-british-court">pumped</a> the brakes on transgender medical interventions for children, including both puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
The attorneys general cites the Cass review, the landmark <a href="https://cass.independent-review.uk/home/publications/final-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> commissioned by England’s National Health Service, which recommended halting the prescription of puberty blockers due to their effects on brain development and bone health.
In April, the Tavistock clinic, England’s only youth gender identity clinic, officially closed its doors after being dogged by controversy for years.
The clinic, the biggest in the world, <a href="https://www.newstatesman.com/politics/health/2024/03/inside-the-collapse-of-the-tavistock-centre" target="_blank" rel="noopener">referred</a> thousands of children for puberty blockers. In its last years, Tavistock began to see an increasing flood of young girls with gender-related distress asking for drugs despite having other mental issues like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and histories of abuse.
In May, a British high court upheld Britain’s ban on puberty blockers.
At least 25 U.S. states have <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nebraska-supreme-court-upholds-bans-on-abortion-transgender-surgeries-for-minors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> restrictions on transgender surgeries and hormone treatments for minors.
The Cass review also warned that children who are referred to gender services come with high rates of abuse and neglect, including sexual abuse and parental substance abuse.

Washington state now requires physicians to take health equity classes on a regular basis or lose their licenses.
Doctors, nurses, dentists, veterinarians, and <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=18" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite%3D18&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1727315846806000&amp;usg=AOvVaw2Uts3k0Zr6kDUqTrU522U4">other</a> health professionals are required to complete health equity &#8220;continuing education&#8221; under a new state law that went into effect in December.
Proponents of health equity claim that health differences between demographic groups are the result of systemic oppression and discrimination.
The health equity classes <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=43.70.613" target="_blank" rel="noopener" data-saferedirecturl="https://www.google.com/url?q=https://app.leg.wa.gov/wac/default.aspx?cite%3D246-12-830&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1727315846806000&amp;usg=AOvVaw32qxq4RTvn-tag8G5kRfKA">teach</a> doctors about &#8220;structural factors&#8221; like &#8220;bias, racism, and poverty&#8221; that manifest as &#8220;health inequities.&#8221; The classes must also involve &#8220;self-reflection&#8221; on how a doctor&#8217;s &#8220;social position can influence their relationship with patients.&#8221;
Depending on the class, doctors will also take &#8220;implicit bias training&#8221; to reduce their bias during diagnosis, learn how to ensure &#8220;equity and antiracism&#8221; in caring for their patients, and learn &#8220;structural humility.&#8221; Doctors will also learn how to recognize &#8220;patterns of health care disparities&#8221; and how &#8220;communication styles differ across cultures,&#8221; as well as take &#8220;cultural safety training.&#8221;
&#8220;These skills enable a health care professional to care effectively for patients from diverse cultures, groups, and communities, varying in race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, religion, age, ability, socioeconomic status, and other categories of identity,&#8221; the new law <a href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=43.70.613" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>.
Healthcare workers must take at least two hours of health equity training every four years, although some Washington medical boards require more hours, the Washington Department of Health confirmed in an email.
One of the available health equity classes is <a href="https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-provider-resources/healthcare-professions-and-facilities/health-equity-continuing-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">titled</a> &#8220;Racism, Bias, and Other Determinants of Health,&#8221; and another is &#8220;Improving Cultural Competency for Behavioral Health Professionals.&#8221;
Washington&#8217;s health department is clear that &#8220;equity and equality are not the same.&#8221;
&#8220;Equality gives everyone the same resources while equity gives people the resources they need,&#8221; the health department&#8217;s website <a href="https://doh.wa.gov/public-health-provider-resources/healthcare-professions-and-facilities/health-equity-continuing-education" target="_blank" rel="noopener">states</a>. &#8220;With equity, everyone has the same opportunities as others. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) has become ubiquitous in many workplaces, including the corporate world, education, and government. In recent years, health equity has popped up more in state and hospital medical policies.
One Boston hospital <a href="https://www.massgeneralbrigham.org/en/about/newsroom/press-releases/updating-system-policies-perinatal-testing" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cited</a> &#8220;health equity&#8221; in its decision earlier this year to stop filing child abuse reports for pregnant mothers using drugs because &#8220;Black pregnant people are more likely to be drug tested.&#8221;
Back in 2022, at least three states, New York, Minnesota, and Utah, <a href="https://freebeacon.com/coronavirus/food-and-drug-administration-drives-racial-rationing-of-covid-drugs/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prioritized</a> minorities for often scarce COVID remedies like monoclonal antibodies and oral antivirals.
Affirmative action, another DEI objective, was struck down by the Supreme Court last year, but some are still <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-mayo-clinic-lawyer-helps-medical-professionals-push-dei-despite-supreme-court-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushing</a> for doctors to be recruited based on their race.
The Mayo Clinic&#8217;s legal counsel was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-mayo-clinic-lawyer-helps-medical-professionals-push-dei-despite-supreme-court-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">caught</a> on audio last month saying that without a &#8220;diverse medical staff,&#8221; they &#8220;can’t effectively provide the best culturally competent care to our patient population.&#8221;

Federal officials have opened an investigation into the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cleveland-clinic-accused-of-racial-discrimination-over-health-clinic-for-minority-men" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Cleveland Clinic</a> over its race-based programs after a conservative legal firm accused the healthcare provider of racial discrimination. 
The Department of Health and Human Services&#8217;s Office of Civil Rights said last week that it was investigating the Cleveland Clinic over its promotion of its “Minority Stroke Program” and the “Minority Men’s Health Center,” according to a <a href="https://dw-wp-production.imgix.net/2024/09/Cleveland-Clinic-Complaint-Acknowledgment-24-585977.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> from HHS shared with The Daily Wire. 
The department was alerted to the programs by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL), which filed a complaint on August 14 on behalf of Do No Harm accusing the clinic of engaging in racial discrimination. Do No Harm is an organization dedicated to depoliticizing medicine. 
In response to the complaint, HHS official Daniel Shieh wrote to WILL on September 10 informing them that the agency was opening an official inquiry into allegations that the clinic “treats white individuals differently from certain racial and ethnic minorities in the tailoring and provision of services.”

“OCR has reviewed the complaint and has determined that it has sufficient authority and cause to investigate the allegations under its authorities,” Shieh wrote. “Therefore, we have initiated an investigation and will contact you should we need any additional information.”
WILL lawyer Cara Tolliver told The Daily Wire that the Minority Stroke Program and the Minority Men’s Health Center disregard care for an “entire class of individuals” who are not deemed minorities. 
“The problem however is that these patient programs are limited to certain racial minorities and segregated on the basis of race which violated anti-discrimination laws,” Tolliver told The Daily Wire. “HHS’s decision to open an investigation into Cleveland Clinic is a hopeful step forward to illuminating unlawful uses of race in healthcare in favor of an individualized and race neutral approach to medicine that conforms with law.” 
The clinic, which has some 48,000 employees, says that its <a href="https://my.clevelandclinic.org/departments/neurological/depts/cerebrovascular/minority-stroke-program" target="_blank" rel="noopener">minority stroke program</a> is “focused on preventing and treating stroke in racial and ethnic minorities” and increasing “stroke awareness among minority groups in order to lower stroke rates and improve stroke outcomes.”
&#8220;Our mission is to care for life, research for health and educate those we serve,&#8221; the clinic told The Daily Wire. &#8220;Our job in fulfilling our mission is to care for all individuals across the communities we serve regardless of race, ethnicity, or other characteristics.&#8221;
Tolliver noted that the clinic did not have any other racially-focused programs for white people, who may have higher rates of Parkinson&#8217;s disease or skin cancer.
After the complaint was filed last month, the clinic <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/cleveland-clinic-scrubs-race-based-center-from-website-after-complaint" target="_blank" rel="noopener">removed references</a> to the Minority Men’s Health Center from its website, telling The Daily Wire that the center “has not been in place for several years.” It said that the minority stroke program “is still active and is open to all patients.” 
If HHS determines that Cleveland Clinic is in violation of the law, the clinic may voluntarily comply and adapt the programs. If it refuses, its access to federal funds could be suspended or terminated. 
Tolliver said that health care providers should not focus on skin color but treatment, and that racially-focused programs could be “particularly problematic and dangerous.”
“These types of health equity initiatives are relying on broad stereotypes about race to assume needs and they’re inherently overlooking individuals who are in need or would benefit from special care or attention,” she said.
