Chiefs’ Harrison Butker’s NFL Gear Sales Beat Kelce’s Despite Backlash Over Commencement Speech

So far, Taylor Swift has stayed out of the election cycle, and yes, we are all quite shocked by it. But she’s been busy performing on tour and being in love with her normal, all-American, football-playing boyfriend. She’s also been busy getting to know all of his relatively Republican friends like Harrison Butker, Brittany Mahomes, and — randomly — my dog sitter’s brother. None of this, however, has stopped some of the Swifties from trying to mobilize for Kamala on her behalf — but not all the Swifties. 
Enter: Swifties for Trump.
In previous years, Taylor Swift has been outspoken on the American political front as depicted in her documentary, “Miss Americana.” In 2018, she spoke out in favor of Democratic Senator candidate Phil Bredesen and vehemently against Marsha Blackburn. Though she was raised in a Republican home, she girlbossed her way to despising Trump and her red home state of Tennessee. Last year, she posted an Instagram story the Tuesday before National Voter Registration Day encouraging her followers to register to vote:

But this year? She’s been silent. And the fans have been talking about it — and not loving it.

TikTokers are asking questions like, “Any idea why Taylor Swift is suddenly silent on politics? Even after Trump just posted the fake images of her endorsing him? Y’all I think that man is getting to her.” There is some debate in the comments on this one as to whom “that man” is — Trump or Travis. Most believe Travis because he isn’t as Left-wing as they originally thought.
So, in Miss Swift’s silence, her fans decided to take it upon themselves to begin her political movement, creating Swifties For Kamala (@swifties4kamala) across basically every social media platform available. Their Instagram has 49k followers.

The Swifties for Kamala idea came from one lone Swiftie who tweeted that “U.S. swifties should mass organize and help campaign for Kamala Harris” so they can have a plan “to move and push blue votes.”

The movement took off from there and ran right up to a Swifties for Kamala Zoom call. (Which makes me think maybe we should hop on this Zoom call trend. Maybe a Rational People Who Can’t Stand Kamala call?) But what a special time the call appears to have been.

During the call, Elizabeth Warren gave what I assume she thought were words of encouragement: “I want to start with you, and that is what I love best about Swifties. You are resilient, and you know how to take on bullies, and you know how to be your most authentic, most joyful selves. And you overcome pretty much anything that life throws at you. And that’s what the Kamala Harris campaign is all about.” What does any of that even mean? It is superficial, and it is fluff. Perhaps instead of advocating to stand up to Donald Trump, she could go do something — anything — productive for the United States.

Then, in a strange showing of one of Swift’s songs, Carole King entered the call as a surprise guest. Once upon a time, I loved Carole King. I grew up listening to her. For my own sake, she should have just sat this one out.

But even through all the cringe, this mobilization, as they call it, does not appear to have much power behind it. That is probably why the mainstream media got involved. Cosmopolitan published an article this week <a href="https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/a61913759/swifties-for-kamala-interview/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">titled</a>, “Swifties for Kamala Is Mobilizing Taylor Swift Fans — Even if Taylor Herself Isn’t,” which they posted on Instagram.

I would guess Cosmo wasn’t expecting this response — but they should have been. If they had spent any time on TikTok lately, they would have known better. One photo in particular seemed to circulate fast and furious:

All hope is not lost when it comes to women or the Swifties. To reiterate a point I’ve made several times: I don’t view Taylor as a detriment to society as many conservatives do. She is a far better role model than most, is said to be quite kind, is close with her family, and upholds her values. Now, she is proving to be tolerant enough to have friends whose ideas differ from hers. That alone speaks volumes.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/harrison-butker">Harrison Butker</a> called out a Chicago Cardinal who led the invocation at the Democratic National Convention with his cross hidden under his jacket and failed to mention Jesus Christ&#8217;s name.
In a Tuesday post on <a href="https://x.com/buttkicker7/status/1825984862458613990">X</a>, the Chiefs star shared a clip from the first night of the 2024 DNC in Chicago with <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/catholic-theologians-clergymen-accuse-pope-francis-paul-bois">Roman Catholic Cardinal Blase Cupich</a> at the podium giving the opening prayer and the religious leader’s pectoral cross could not be seen because it was tucked inside the Cardinal&#8217;s jacket.
“America needs more Jesus not less,” Butker’s post read. “We need our shepherds to fearlessly lead and not be afraid to proclaim that Christ is King.”
“It starts with bishops boldly wearing their pectoral cross outside their jackets,” he added.

As Butker noted, the Cardinal faced additional criticism because during his invocation, the name Jesus was not mentioned once, as <a href="https://www.lifenews.com/2024/08/20/opening-prayer-at-democrat-convention-didnt-even-mention-jesus/">LifeNews</a> noted.
During this prayer, the religious leader called on the faithful “to root out ongoing injustices in our national life, especially those created by moral blindness and fear of the other” and to forge a “new chapter of our nation’s history.”
At one point, the Cardinal of the Archdiocese of Chicago also quoted Pope Francis, but not Jesus.

Blase Cupich gave the invocation at an event providing free abortions and vasectomies,” The Lepanto Institute, a conservative Catholic organization, wrote on <a href="https://x.com/LepantoInst/status/1825698411800150114">X,</a> pointing out <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/satan-is-pleased-riley-gaines-and-more-react-to-dncs-10-abortions-in-first-day" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Planned Parenthood&#8217;s</a> &#8220;mobile health clinic&#8221; blocks from the DNC offering abortions.
Catholic Vote <a href="https://x.com/augustinajjd/status/1825676633354682730">said</a> simply, “The DNC is demonic.”
One journalist <a href="https://x.com/StephenKokx/status/1825685459021812178">wrote</a>, “McCarrick disciple Cardinal Cupich gives invocation at DNC in Chicago as abortions and vasectomies take place just feet away. No sign of the cross. No mention of the Holy Name of Jesus. Pectoral cross conveniently hidden.”
Another person wrote, “Did the catholic priest notice the horrific child sacrifice abortion ritual happening outside the DNC convention or is he just going to ignore that?”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kansas-city-chiefs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kansas City Chiefs</a> kicker Harrison Butker signed a 4-year $26 million contract extension on Monday, making him the highest-paid kicker in the NFL on a per-year basis, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter <a href="https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1820545492952223826" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The extension for the 29-year-old kicker comes after another season where he ranked among the top kickers in field goal percentage, extra-point percentage, and total points. Last year, Butker also helped his team win its second-straight Super Bowl.
Butker&#8217;s new deal includes $17.75 million guaranteed. The kicker represented and negotiated the deal himself, per Schefter. Butker becomes the highest-paid NFL kicker just over two months after he enraged many on the Left following his viral commencement speech at Benedictine College.

The <a href="https://www.change.org/p/demand-the-kansas-city-chiefs-to-dismiss-harrison-butker-for-discriminatory-remarks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">petition</a>, which garnered nearly 240,000 signatures, called Butker&#8217;s comments &#8220;sexist, homophobic, anti-trans, anti-abortion, and racist,&#8221; but the team&#8217;s ownership, head coach, and Butker&#8217;s teammates stood by their kicker amid the outrage.
Days after the backlash, Butker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-chiefs-kicker-harrison-butker-breaks-silence-says-he-will-continue-to-be-unapologetic-catholic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stood by his comments</a>, saying that the “shocking level of hate” would not deter him from being “unapologetic” about his faith.

“If it wasn’t clear that the timeless Catholic values are hated by many, it is now,” Butker said at the Courage Under Fire gala in Nashville on May 24. “Over the past few days, my beliefs, or what people think I believe, have been the focus of countless discussions around the globe.”
“In my seven years in the NFL, I’ve become familiar with positive and negative comments. But the majority of them revolve around my performance on the field,” Butker added. “But, as to be expected, the more I’ve talked about what I value most, my Catholic faith, the more polarizing I’ve become. It’s a decision I’ve consciously made, and one I do not regret at all.”

Harrison Butker, kicker for the Kansas City Chiefs, is in the media’s target once again after his condemnation of the Paris Olympics’s opening ceremony. This year, the Olympics decided to celebrate drag queens by lining them across a long table with one woman in the center wearing a halo-like head dress. The scene presented a warped portrayal of <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/drag-performance-resembling-last-supper-olympics-opening-ceremony-rcna163927" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Da Vinci’s painting “Last Supper,”</a>  replacing Christ and His apostles with LGBTQ performers.
Butker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chiefs-kicker-harrison-butker-reacts-to-olympics-opening-ceremony-god-is-not-mocked" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reacted</a> to the scene by quoting the Bible, <a href="https://x.com/buttkicker7/status/1816953986114822172" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posting on X</a>, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked&#8230;”
Butker first made headlines for his political views back in May when he addressed the graduates of Benedictine College, the tiny liberal arts school I call home. Then, people from around the world swarmed social media to defend the poor, oppressed young women like me who were subjected to Butker’s misogynistic presumptions.
How could he assume that “the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world?” What an out-of-touch statement to say to a group of modern women.
But he was right.
Most female students at Benedictine, me included, care more about our potential families than our job prospects. Of course, this doesn’t mean that none of us will work. It doesn’t even mean that we will all go on to get married. My friends work hard on their academics and would make great employees. They just care more about falling in love and having children. What’s so bad about that?
As I head back to school this month, I’ve been thinking more about Butker’s commencement speech, especially as he has come under fire once again for his criticism of the Paris Olympics.
What I think most people are missing about Butker is the part of his speech that received far less media attention: his words to the graduating men.
Butker criticized absent fathers, challenged my male classmates to “do hard things,” and spoke to his own vocation as a husband and a father—not an athlete. His speech didn’t pit men and women in a power struggle against one another, the way feminists so often do. Nor did it diminish our differences and meld us into one unseemly mass of humanity, as was on display at the Paris Olympics.
Instead, Butker encouraged my classmates and me to love one another. That may be seen as radical or extreme, and I suppose it is. But it is also exciting.
My friends and I aren’t afraid of the prospect of being wives and mothers, we’re thrilled. And our male counterparts are eager to serve us in turn and devote their full strength to their family.
All that to say, Benedictine’s young women don’t need strangers on X to save us from the patriarchy. Considering that the alternative is men at the Olympics donning over-sexualized feminine stereotypes like a costume, the patriarchy looks pretty swell.
This school year, my friends and I are looking forward to quietly defying the idea that “womanhood” no longer has anything to do with being wives or mothers. Our lives are not a performance of physical stereotypes exaggerated for sexual pleasure. They’re real and they’re wonderful.
This fall, my first college party will be a wedding between recent Benedictine alumni. It promises to be a much more beautiful ceremony than what our elites just decided to put on in Paris.

NFL kicker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/harrison-butker">Harrison Butker</a> reacted to the controversial opening ceremonies of the 2024 Summer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/olympics">Olympics</a> in Paris, which featured what&#8217;s being seen as a parody of The Last Supper recreated by drag queens.
The 29-year-old previously went viral in May for sharing his thoughts on the role of women during a commencement speech at a Catholic college in Kansas.
Butker published his reactions on social media. &#8220;This is crazy,&#8221; he wrote on social media, following that with a Bible quote. He also quoted scripture on X, writing, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked. For what things a man shall sow, those also shall he reap. For he that soweth in his flesh, of the flesh also shall reap corruption. But he that soweth in the spirit, of the spirit shall reap life everlasting.”

The clip he shared included a clip of the performance, which has been slammed on social media and eventually was removed from the official Olympics YouTube page following intense backlash.
Besides the Last Supper parody, there were several other moments during the opening ceremony that led to strong reactions from viewers, including a headless Marie Antoinette and a “pale horse” which drew comparisons to the Book of Revelation in the Bible.
Thomas Jolly, creative director of the opening ceremony depictions, had this to say about his vision. &#8220;The extraordinary thing is that everyone in France and the rest of the world has an idea of what France is all about. And I want to play with that, that&#8217;s where I want to start from &#8211; breaking down clichés, because clichés come along other things,&#8221; he said, according to the Olympics website.
“Above all, I want this ceremony to include everyone. We must all celebrate this diversity,” Jolly added. 
He <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/paris-olympics-opening-ceremony-features-drag-parody-of-last-supper">also said</a>, “I was overwhelmed at first. I wondered how I could create a show where everyone can feel represented as part of this great union. This responsibility was ambitious, complex, but magnificent for an artist.”
Jolly continued, “When we watch ‘Emily in Paris’ or ‘Amélie Poulain,’ we know it’s not quite the real Paris. We’re going to play with all those cliches, but we’re also going to challenge them. Paris is also a vibrant youth. Different cultures rubbing shoulders in the streets. I’ll be fired if I tell you anything. All I can tell you is that it will be very meaningful for the artists that will perform.”

Tennis great Serena Williams took a shot at Kansas City Chiefs kicker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-chiefs-kicker-harrison-butker-breaks-silence-says-he-will-continue-to-be-unapologetic-catholic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Harrison Butker</a> on Thursday night at the ESPY Awards.
Williams, presenting alongside her sister Venus Williams and actress Quinta Brunson, quipped that Butker can be exempt from enjoying women&#8217;s sports, suggesting he&#8217;s anti-woman for his recent Catholic speech that praised his wife and other homemakers.

Butker gave a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/chiefs-kicker-slams-biden-and-dei-in-commencement-speech" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commencement address</a> at Benedictine College in the spring and sparked outrage from leftists. During the address, he called out President Joe Biden’s support for abortion, criticized “Pride Month,&#8221; and praised his wife for raising their children, being a homemaker, and being his strongest support.
Triggering the most outrage, Butker told the female grads, “It cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
He also emphasized that women should cherish their families and their babies even more than their careers &#8212; something that is typically not uttered in mainstream culture.
Despite the strong backlash, Butker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-chiefs-kicker-harrison-butker-breaks-silence-says-he-will-continue-to-be-unapologetic-catholic" target="_blank" rel="noopener">refused to back down</a>.
