Islamic terror suspects <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-thwart-potential-halloween-weekend-terrorist-attack-kash-patel-says">arrested</a> by the FBI in Michigan last week sought to target bars and nightclubs near Detroit on Halloween night, according to a criminal complaint filed on Saturday.
The 73-page <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-edmi/media/1416836/dl?inline">complaint</a>, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, accuses Mohmed Ali, Majed Mahmoud, and a juvenile suspect, along with five co-conspirators, of seeking to carry out a terrorist attack for ISIS, hoping to copy the 2015 Paris terrorist attack that killed more than 130 people. The suspects codenamed the attack day &#8220;pumpkin,&#8221; leading investigators to believe that the planned attack would be carried out on Halloween, when bars and nightclubs would be full of partiers.
The suspects, who are all under 21, allegedly &#8220;sought guidance from the father of a local Islamic extremist ideologue&#8221; on when to conduct their attack. Ali lives in Dearborn, Michigan, which is known for its large Muslim population, and the criminal complaint states that Ali and Mahmoud met multiple times at night at parks in Dearborn. Ali and Mahmoud also shared ISIS-related materials through encrypted messaging and social media apps, according to the criminal complaint.
FBI Director Kash Patel <a href="https://x.com/FBIDirectorKash/status/1985379689741881404">said</a> on Friday that the potential terrorist attack in Michigan was &#8220;thwarted&#8221; by federal agents. Patel added on Monday that the FBI &#8220;stopped a massacre before it could happen.&#8221;
&#8220;Two Michigan men planned an ISIS-inspired Halloween terror attack near Detroit- stockpiling weapons, scouting targets, and training at gun ranges,&#8221; Patel said. &#8220;This FBI acted fast, followed the evidence, and likely saved countless lives.&#8221;
The suspects allegedly scoped out sites of potential targets for their attack in September. According to the criminal complaint, the suspects drove past numerous bars and clubs in Ferndale, which is just north of Detroit, and is known as a go-to party spot for gay people.

The FBI also said that the suspects practiced shooting firearms, including AR-15 style rifles, at a gun range in September and October. Federal authorities served search warrants at Ali&#8217;s and Mahmoud&#8217;s homes on October 31, where they recovered &#8220;three AR-15 style rifles, two shotguns, four handguns, more than 1,600 rounds of ammunition compatible with the three AR-15 style rifles, optical sights, two GoPro cameras, a flash suppressor, tactical vests, and other related firearms parts and accessories,&#8221; according to the complaint.
One of the co-conspirators, referred to as &#8220;Co-Conspirator 1&#8221; in the complaint, allegedly met with Ali and the juvenile suspect in June and July before he traveled out of the country. When Co-Conspirator 1 returned to the United States, Customs and Border Protection agents looked through his phone and found photos of the co-conspirator wearing tactical gear and holding weapons, the complaint stated. The CBP agents also allegedly found Google searches for ISIS and the Islamic State.
While Co-Conspirator 1 was overseas, he got on a group call with five other people, one of whom was an FBI Confidential Human Source. During the call, which the FBI source recorded, the participants discussed traveling to Syria to join ISIS, according to the complaint. A second co-conspirator then attempted to convince Ali and the juvenile suspect to join them and travel to Syria, but the two suspects allegedly said that they wanted to stay in the United States and do the &#8220;same thing as France,&#8221; which the FBI believes is a reference to the 2015 Paris terrorist attack.

“Uncut Gems” actress Julia Fox is facing backlash for her controversial Halloween costume, which social media users are calling “<a href="https://x.com/BeeAwake2/status/1984291814686515274">sick and disgusting</a>.”
The 35-year-old celeb, who is an ex-girlfriend of rapper Kanye West, stepped out for a Halloween party in New York City on Thursday and donned an outfit meant to depict the aftermath of the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. 
Fox was photographed wearing the recognizable pink suit and pillbox hat that JFK’s wife Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis wore on that day. The outfit was splattered with blood meant to represent the assassination.
Reactions on social media were fiercely opposed.
“Julia Fox continues to be one of the most insufferable people imaginable,” one person <a href="https://x.com/Process718/status/1984280085982314831">replied</a>. 
“What a ghoul,” another person <a href="https://x.com/cactusncookies/status/1984321326220525986">echoed</a>.
“You will never be able to convince me that Hollywood is not a product of the devil,” <a href="https://x.com/adhdrunsme/status/1984287556406796756">said</a> another.
“Tasteless, narcissistic attention seeking,” another commenter <a href="https://x.com/GenXgal90/status/1984325643308581108">replied</a>.
As backlash mounted, Fox posted a statement on Instagram defending the outfit, insisting her morbid outfit choice was &#8220;not a costume&#8221; but &#8220;a statement.&#8221;

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump stepped off Air Force One from his trip to Asia and headed back to the White House to hand out candy to children for several hours Thursday evening.
Thousands of children dressed in costumes lined the walkways of the South Lawn of the White House as the president and the First Lady handed out full-size Hershey&#8217;s chocolate bars and Twizzlers, wrapped in Halloween wrappers featuring the Presidential Seal and the signatures of both Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
Top administration figures also joined the festivities, including Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, her husband, and her young son toddling around dressed as a pumpkin. Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller and his wife, Katie Miller, dressed as a skeleton, accompanied their children.
For Leavitt, Trump, and others, it felt like 7 a.m. since they had arrived home from South Korea only hours before, wrapping a trip in which the president secured many deals for the United States in Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea.
&#8220;President Trump secured billions in new investment, oversaw a peace agreement, inked multiple trade and mineral deals, met with President Xi, and more,&#8221; spokeswoman Taylor Rogers said on Thursday. &#8220;He never stops working!&#8221;

Observers spotted many amusing moments between the president and the children: one tiny young trick-or-treater determinedly pulled on the president&#8217;s arm until she managed to get the full attention of the most powerful man in the world. Another young man came dressed as a toilet with &#8220;wide load&#8221; in bold lettering on the back of his costume, which the president appeared to be astounded by.

As the children progressed through the line and made their way up to POTUS and FLOTUS, the United States Air Force Strolling Strings played traditional Halloween songs and theme songs from popular movies and shows. At one point, the president turned away from the children to suggest that the band switch to a more lively tune, then gave the players a big thumbs up when they did so.
The U.S. Postal Service also offered toy mail trucks and hosted a &#8220;BE BEST&#8221; postcard station for the children, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture hosted a giant pumpkin photo opp for families where they handed out mini pumpkins from American farmers, according to the Office of the First Lady. Additionally, the International Fresh Produce Association offered Washington state apples, and the National Confectioners Association provided &#8220;sweet treats.&#8221;
Other contributors included the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, National Park Service, U.S. Mint, U.S. Secret Service, White House Historical Association, and the Center of Science and Industry.
In one notable moment, the president placed a candy bar on the flat head of a trick-or-treater dressed as a marshmallow, replicating a viral moment from years ago when he and Melania Trump both placed candy bars on top of a young Minion trick-or-treater.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/halloween" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Halloween</a> candy prices saw double-digit inflation for the second year in a row, spiking a whopping 13% since October last year.
The 13% average price increase for candy is more than double the 6% increase in other grocery prices, <a href="https://datasembly.com/candy-prices-downright-scary/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Datasembly, a retail price tracker. Datasembly looked at sales information from over 150,000 stores across 30,000 zip codes representing 200-plus retail banners.
Chocolate prices alone have spiked nearly 12%.
This year&#8217;s national candy inflation is actually less severe than the 20% inflation candy prices saw from October 2021 to October 2022.
East Coast states in particular are seeing higher candy prices.
Vermont saw a 14.7% price increase, Maine saw a 14.2% increase, and Pennsylvania saw a 14.2% increase.
Meanwhile, other states are seeing less of a price hike — Alaska saw a 7.1% price increase, Michigan saw a 7.5% increase, and Ohio saw an 8.1% increase.
At Walmart, an assorted variety bag of 375 mini-sized M&amp;M’s, Twix, and Snickers costs $49.98.

About a third of American customers planned to buy value or store-brand candy for trick-or-treaters this year, <a href="https://www.numerator.com/61-consumers-plan-celebrate-halloween-80-plan-purchase-candy-numerator-reports" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Numerator, which surveyed 4,500 people about their Halloween plans.
Also, fewer people planned to celebrate Halloween this year — only 61% of people, down from 65% who said so last year. Some were still undecided at the time of the survey, however.
Chocolate maker Hershey acknowledged this week that higher prices are affecting demand.
Hershey has raised its prices by at least 7% in each of the last seven quarters, and Hershey&#8217;s confectionary sales volumes in North America fell 1% between July and September.
“We know that value and affordability continue to be top-of-the-line for consumers as budgets are stretched,” Hershey’s president Michele Buck said Thursday during a conference call with investors.
&#8220;While candy price increases have cooled, the increase over the last 12 months will bring incremental pressure on top of last year’s record inflation,&#8221; Datasembly <a href="https://datasembly.com/candy-prices-downright-scary/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in its analysis. &#8220;In an economy where shoppers are becoming more selective and careful with their dollars, manufacturers are hoping that candy maintains its strong position with consumers’ discretionary income.&#8221;
Inflation has been a major concern for Americans since the pandemic, from groceries to gas prices and other necessities.
In September, gas prices in some Southern California counties again <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/los-angeles-average-gas-price-tops-6-a-gallon" target="_blank" rel="noopener">skyrocketed</a> to an average of over $6 a gallon.

As Halloween approaches, local media outlets across the country will warn parents to check their kids’ Halloween candy for potential dangers. In recent years, federal and state authorities <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/media/2022/10/26/rainbow-fentanyl-halloween-scare/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">issued warnings</a> about candy-shaped rainbow fentanyl. Another “danger” has been people swapping out regular candy for THC-laced gummies that mimic famous candy brands.
The danger of some maniac child-hater giving out poisoned candy, however, is a myth. There simply is no evidence that anything like this occurs at Halloween.
Debunking the THC-laced gummies is the easy part. These small bags of gummies cost $15 and up each, so it is unlikely anyone would give them out to be cruel. Joel Best, a sociology professor at the University of Delaware who has studied the tainted Halloween candy myth since 1983, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2021/10/27/us/halloween-candy-thc-marijuana.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times in 2021 that the THC-laced gummies claim “spreads primarily among people who have no idea what this stuff costs.”
There are two decades-old examples of dangerous candy. In 1959, California dentist Dr. William Shyne handed out <a href="https://timesmachine.nytimes.com/timesmachine/1959/11/04/80559444.pdf?pdf_redirect=true&amp;ip=0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">candy-coated laxative pills</a> to children trick-or-treating. Thirty children were sickened by the laxative-laced candy, with some 450 pills handed out. Shyne was charged with outrage of public decency and unlawful dispensing of drugs.
Following this, some 80 reports of sharp objects being inserted into Halloween candy emerged, but the vast majority turned out to be hoaxes, including a claim by two Pennsylvania teenagers in 2015 that they had found needles in their Halloween candy. They quickly recanted their claims and faced no charges, Philadelphia magazine <a href="https://www.phillymag.com/news/2015/11/06/kennett-square-needles-candy-hoax/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time.
“Law enforcement is always in a difficult situation in these potential hoax cases, which seem to occur every year,” Larry Hogan, who was the district attorney of Chester County at the time, said in a statement. “The public has to be notified immediately as a matter of safety. However, as anybody who has raised kids knows, it sometimes takes some work and time to get the full truth behind an initial story. In this case, law enforcement and the media did a sound job of balancing the need for safety with pursuing the ultimate truth. At this point, we are simply glad that we can assure the parents and children of Chester County that Halloween remains a safe and fun event.”
The first teenager, an 11-year-old, put needles from her mom’s sewing kit into her candy after an adult showed her a picture of spiked candy while telling her to be safe. The other teen, a 12-year-old, saw a news report of the first hoax and decided to create his own. That same year, a 37-year-old man in New Jersey was arrested after posting a photo on social media claiming to have found needles in Halloween candy. The man, Robert Ledrew, placed the needles in the candy himself after seeing a news report about the two teens’ claims.
“I can’t find any evidence of any child being killed or seriously hurt by a contaminated treat picked up in the course of trick-or-treating,” Best, the University of Delaware sociology professor, told the Times.
A 5-year-old boy died in 1970 after eating heroin, which the police originally said had been in his Halloween candy. Allegedly, heroin had been sprinkled on the candy. In reality, the heroin had been found in his uncle’s home, the Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/1970/11/10/archives/boy-5-who-died-of-heroin-may-have-taken-a-capsule.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> at the time. A medical examination found that the amount of heroin found in the boy’s body was way more than a sprinkle, and was the amount typically found in a capsule.
The idea that strangers are putting poisons and sharp objects into candy falls flat when one considers that criminals tend to want to see the destruction they cause. Giving things to random kids in the neighborhood wouldn’t really qualify, and it would be very easy to connect such a crime to a particular house.
There is one confirmed incident of poisoned Halloween candy that led to a death, but there is more to that story than stranger danger. In 1974, 8-year-old Timothy O’Bryan died after eating potassium cyanide-laced Pixy Stix found in his Halloween candy. The boy had been out trick-or-treating with his father, Ronald, and his sister, as well as a neighbor and his two children.
The group came to a house where no one answered the door, so the children ran ahead. Ronald caught up with the group and said he had been given five Pixy Stix by the occupant of the house that hadn’t initially answered. He gave one Pixy Stix to each of the four children in the group, and gave the fifth to a boy he knew from church.
That night, before going to bed, young Timothy asked to eat some of the candy from Halloween. Ronald provided him with another Pixy Stix. When Timothy struggled to get the powdered candy out of the straw, Ronald helped him loosen the powder. Upon consuming it, Timothy said it tasted bitter, so Ronald gave him some Kool-Aid to wash it down.
Timothy then said his stomach hurt and ran to the bathroom to throw up. The young boy started having convulsions. Ronald would later say that he held Timothy while the boy was vomiting and that the child collapsed in his arms. Timothy died on the way to the hospital, less than one hour after he consumed his last Pixy Stix.
None of the other children who had been given a Pixy Stix by Ronald consumed their candy, and their parents were able to retrieve them. Authorities found that the candies had all been opened and the top two inches of powder was replaced with cyanide powder before the straws had been stapled shut.
A pathologist who tested the candy found that Timothy consumed enough cyanide to kill two adults.
Ronald told police that he couldn’t remember which house provided the Pixy Stix. This made police suspicious, since the group had only gone to homes on two streets due to rain. None of the homes on these streets had given out Pixy Stix. After walking the neighborhood with police, Ronald pointed to the house that hadn’t answered and said the man had simply opened the door and given him the candy without fully revealing himself. Ronald said he only saw the man’s arm.
Police investigated the owner of the home and found that he was an air traffic controller who didn’t get home until 11:00 p.m. on Halloween night. More than 200 people were able to confirm he had been at work that night and couldn’t have given out the candy.
Police later learned that Ronald was more than $100,000 in debt at the time (more than $620,000 in 2023 dollars), and had held 21 jobs in the past 10 years. He was about to be fired again, his car was about to be repossessed, he had defaulted on multiple bank loans, and was about to lose his house.
In the months before Timothy died, Ronald had taken out $10,000 insurance policies on each of his children. One month before the death, Ronald took out an additional $20,000 in insurance on each child. The morning after Timothy died, Ronald called to ask about collecting the insurance money.
Ronald had also gone to a chemical supply store to buy cyanide before Halloween, but left when he learned the minimum amount he could buy was 5 pounds.
Ronald was arrested and charged with Timothy’s murder and the attempted murders of the four other children. Timothy’s mother said she had no idea about the insurance policies and was never considered a suspect.
At trial, a chemist testified that Ronald had asked him about cyanide and how much would be fatal in the year before Timothy’s death. A chemical supply salesman also testified that Ronald had asked him how to purchase cyanide. Those who knew Ronald testified that in the months before Timothy died, Ronald had shown an interest in cyanide.
Ronald’s wife testified that Timothy had not chosen to eat a Pixy Stix that night, but that Ronald had forced him to choose the candy.
Ronald was convicted and sentenced to death. He was killed by lethal injection on March 31, 1984. In the decades since, he has been referred to as “The Candy Man” or “The Man Who Killed Halloween.”
Yet he was not a stranger handing out Halloween candy – he was a man in debt who sought to kill his children for the insurance money and gave out the candy to other children to make it look like it had come from a stranger.
Despite numerous warnings about the dangers of Halloween candy, there simply is no evidence that a stranger in the neighborhood is preparing to harm children by going to great lengths to tamper with candy.

A New Jersey school district canceled Halloween celebrations and banned costumes at school, citing concerns with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei">DEI</a>).
The decision <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/media/superintendent-cancels-halloween-bans-costumes-school-dei-claims-harm-students-dignity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was made</a> earlier this month by Superintendent Dr. Ronald Taylor of the South Orange &amp; Maplewood School District (SOMSD) just west of Newark.
Costumes will be <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/15pPZqB7zp5QSV3lD8dqe7CXBOg6WdGHV/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banned</a> during school hours, and any Halloween celebrations at schools will have to be held after school hours, Taylor wrote in an October 6 <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZMZNZp3S-Xju18dpz4tWfhK4ziynj94N/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a> to families.
&#8220;As you know, SOMSD is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion meaningfully &#8211; not just saying the words but also promoting an inclusive school,&#8221; the superintendent wrote.
“Each year, questions arise from families, students, and staff about what SOMSD schools will be doing regarding Halloween,” Taylor wrote. “Is promoting school-sponsored Halloween activities creating indirect and unintentional financial hardships for students and families? Do school-sponsored Halloween activities violate the dignity of some of our students and families, either culturally or religiously? Does the promotion of school-sponsored Halloween activities create tensions with the equity and access values of SOMSD?”
The district said it surveyed school principals to ask whether school-sponsored Halloween celebrations should continue or if the district should pivot to something like a fall festival that focused on the season of autumn.
The responses from the principals were &#8220;overwhelming&#8221; in favor of discontinuing school Halloween celebrations, the district said.
As a result, all elementary schools will likely eventually have a &#8220;Fall/Harvest Festival event&#8221; that can happen during school time, the superintendent said.

“All of us realize that this breaks with what the District has usually done, and that can be a difficult thing to do sometimes,” said Dr. Kevin Gilbert, assistant superintendent of Access and Equity. “Often, working to instill greater equity in our district begins with recognizing that we cannot do what we have always done. But with this decision, we are taking a step closer to upholding our community’s access and equity values.”
Governor Phil Murphy, a Democrat, reacted to the district&#8217;s Halloween decision on Tuesday.

Celebrities like Mandy Moore slammed SAG-AFTRA&#8217;s Halloween costume ban on wearing looks that would support struck projects as the strike drags on amid broken talks with the major studios.
The Screen Actor&#8217;s Guild-American Federation of Television Radio Artist&#8217;s issued a <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/general-news/barbie-wednesday-addams-halloween-costumes-banned-sag-aftra-1235622914/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">guideline</a> on October 18 that card-carrying actors should &#8220;choose costumes inspired by generalized characters and figures (such as ghost, zombie, or spider)&#8221; in order to &#8220;celebrate Halloween this year while also staying in solidarity&#8221; with the strike.

In response, the Hollywood union issued a clarification that the &#8220;SAG-AFTRA issued Halloween guidance&#8221; was not meant to apply to &#8220;anyone&#8217;s kids&#8221; and instead was &#8220;in response to questions from content creators and members about how to support the strike during this festive season.&#8221;
&#8220;This was meant to help them avoid promoting struck work, and it is the latest in a series of guidelines we have issued,&#8221; the statement added. &#8220;&#8230; We are on strike for important reasons, and have been for nearly 100 days. Our number one priority remains getting the studios back to the negotiating table so we can get a fair deal for our members, and finally put our industry back to work.&#8221;
The actor&#8217;s strike is nearing its 100th day after talks broke off Saturday without a deal with studios. In July, SAG-AFTRA authorized a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/actors-go-on-strike-heres-what-that-means-for-your-shows-and-movies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">strike</a> after failing to come to a deal with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

As the SAG-AFTRA <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/strike">strike</a> drags on, union leaders issued a statement to their <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">members</a> about Halloween costumes, urging them not to don any outfits which would promote struck <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood">Hollywood</a> projects. 
The guidelines were created for members looking to “celebrate Halloween this year while also staying in solidarity” with the strike. The informative flyer <a href="https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/post/halloween-guidance-from-sag-aftra">shared</a> to the SAG-AFTRA strike page on Wednesday said, “Choose costumes inspired by generalized characters and figures (ghost, zombie, spider, etc.).” 
They also recommend dressing up as characters “from non-struck content, like an animated TV show.”
It also said actors should not “post photos of costumes inspired by struck content to social media” because that would give the studios publicity. 
“Let’s use our collective power to send a loud and clear message to our struck employers that we will not promote their content without a fair contract!” the flyer said.
Some of the most popular costumes this year are Barbie and Wednesday Addams, but neither of those would be permitted with the proposed union guidelines. 
Actor Ryan Reynolds reacted to the flyer with a post on X, writing, “I look forward to screaming &#8216;scab&#8217; at my 8 year old all night. She’s not in the union but she needs to learn.”

Talks between the actors’ union and AMPTP are currently at a standstill. “After meaningful conversations, it is clear that the gap between the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA is too great, and conversations are no longer moving us in a productive direction,” studio reps said in a statement on October 12. This led to those conversations being “suspended” for now, per <a href="https://deadline.com/2023/10/actors-strike-talks-suspended-1235570997/">Deadline</a>.

At the time, SAG-AFTRA reps accused the studios of using “bully tactics” and misrepresenting the negotiation details when talking to the press.
Industry professionals were hoping that the recently ratified contract between the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) would spur a similar agreement with the actors as both were on strike at the same time. But the past few weeks have not seen any progress toward a mutual agreement.
One of the major point of contention remains how much actors get paid in revenue sharing for streaming residuals.

A North Carolina family is demanding answers after their loved one&#8217;s body was found dead after days of people thinking it was a Halloween decoration.
Robert Owens, of China Grove, North Carolina, was found dead in front of an abandoned home. His family soon discovered that his body had been there for days and that a lawncare worker had mowed around Owens’ nearly naked body, believing it to be a Halloween decoration.
“Don’t know how you can do that,” Owens’ sister, Haley Shue, <a href="https://www.qcnews.com/news/u-s/north-carolina/rowan-county/we-want-answers-rowan-county-mans-body-mistaken-for-halloween-prop-lawn-mowed-around-him/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Queen City News. “Mow right beside someone and assume that they’re Halloween decorations at a house no one lives at.”
The China Grove Police Department released a statement saying officers spoke to the groundskeeper, who said he believed the body was a mannequin.
“However, the groundskeeper stated, he believed the body to be a fake dummy used for training by numerous law agencies on the property over the last few years and did not report it,&#8221; the department said in the statement, <a href="https://people.com/north-carolina-mans-body-found-at-empty-home-was-initially-mistaken-for-mannequin-police-8362897" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to People Magazine</a>.
The family had last seen Owens on October 1, but his body was discovered a week later, on October 10, lying face down in front of the abandoned home.
“My grandmother has lived off of Shue Road for 40+ years,” Shue told QC News, “and he’s never been to this house. He’s never known of this house this far off the road. He’s never been back here. He’s never been known to come here.”

Police only told Owens’ sister, Haley, and mother, Brenda, that the 34-year-old wasn’t shot. They learned more details about the condition of his body from a construction worker on the property where it was found.
“Construction worker told us that he had cuts and scrapes on his arms like defensive wounds, his words,” Shue told QC News.
Police are investigating Owens’ death. While his family said he was a drug user, they don’t know how he ended up where he was found. Police reportedly don’t suspect foul play but are investigating. Police said an autopsy was performed in Raleigh, and preliminary findings showed no signs of assault or other trauma to Owens’ body.
Owens’ family, meanwhile, can’t believe he’s gone.
“His nieces and nephews love him, and he had just gotten my son a jacket, and he didn’t even have the chance to give it to him,” Shue told the outlet, crying. “We want answers.”
The China Grove Police Chief told QC News that the department expects more information this week and is waiting for a toxicology report to determine his cause of death.

The image carousel also included photos of her carving a pumpkin, her friend Dylan Minnette in a pumpkin costume, her brother Finneas&#8217; injury, and some concert clips. The final image was of her with Rutherford wearing their baby/old man costumes.
One person replied, “honestly yikes on the last photo.” 
“That last slide is gonna haunt her in a few years when she’s older and realizes that a 31 year old has no business with someone that young,” another wrote.
“Girl wisen up, this isn’t a joke. Why isn’t he with someone his own age? Just think about it. It’s weird, not quirky,” a third shared in the comments. 
Eilish and Rutherford seemingly confirmed their relationship by posting that photo. Rumors had been swirling since they were spotted together in October and then were seen kissing outside an Indian restaurant in Los Angeles, per <a href="https://people.com/music/billie-eilish-halloween-costume-pokes-fun-at-age-gap-with-boyfriend-jesse-rutherford/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People</a>.   
There are <a href="https://twitter.com/jrutherfordpics/status/942934059281502208?s=20&amp;t=rd1L9Ancz29kTe5K8fsgUA">photos</a> of the pair in 2017 when Eilish was 15 and Rutherford was 26, though their romance seems relatively new.
Eilish was formerly in a relationship with rapper 7: AMP, real name Brandon Adams but who Eilish refers to as Q, who is 24. She spoke about their relationship in the 2021 Apple TV+ documentary “The World&#8217;s a Little Blurry.”
&#8220;I just wasn&#8217;t happy. I didn&#8217;t want the same things he wanted and I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s fair for him,&#8221; she said. &#8220;I don&#8217;t think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn&#8217;t care less about.&#8221;
Fans were allegedly upset with how Eilish spoke about Q in the documentary and came after him on social media. The “Bad Guy” singer admonished them, telling them to “be nice.”

In the latest mass shooting in Chicago, fourteen people, including children ages 3, 11, and 13, were shot in a 3-second drive-by attack on Halloween night, police said.
Seven women and four men ranging in age from 31 to 56 were also shot. According to Chicago Police Superintendent David Brown, two people in a car opened fire at a crowd standing at an intersection for a vigil. Balloons were released around the gathering.
Alderman Jason Ervin commented, “It&#8217;s heartbreaking that people go out to memorialize someone and then become victims.”
“Hold off on hyperbole right now,” Brown <a href="https://chicago.suntimes.com/crime/2022/10/31/23434159/multiple-people-shot-in-east-garfield-park" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told reporters</a> asking how many people had been shot. “Right now, people are in there getting treated, some may be fighting for their lives. Let’s right now treat this in the most urgent way, we’re trying to find an offender.”
“We picked up another girl, a little girl, about 13, and we brought her to that ambulance,” an eyewitness told <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/chicago-mass-shooting-several-children-among-least-14-injured-drive-citys-west-side" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FOX 32 Chicago</a>. “But the ambulance driver said, &#8216;No, we can&#8217;t bring her in because you have people worse.&#8217; So we just sat her on the bumper.”
The bystander added that one small girl had a bullet wound under her knee.
Six victims were transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, four to Stroger Hospital, two to Loyola University Medical Center and two to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/chicago/news/lawndale-mass-shooting/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
“It’s over by three seconds,” Brown said. “The car’s pulling out after driving by and shooting randomly into the crowd. We do not have any motive. &#8230; We always worry about retaliation obviously, but we don’t know enough about this, whether it involved a gang conflict or some personal conflict yet, but as soon as we know we’ll share that with the public. And obviously we’re deploying extra police resources in the area to make sure that we can prevent any retaliation if that’s something that’s real.”
The shootings were the worst in the Chicago area since March 2021, when fifteen people were shot and two killed in Greater Grand Crossing; in July 2020 fifteen people were shot in Gresham.
Roughly halfway through 2022, on July 1 the Chicago Police Department <a href="https://news.wttw.com/2022/07/01/shootings-homicides-down-year-chicago-still-pace-top-600-killings-2022-police" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that there had been 310 homicides and 1,255 shootings since January 1.
Through late September, Chicago’s <a href="https://wirepoints.org/chicago-2022-homicide-rate-5-times-higher-than-new-york-citys-2-5-times-higher-than-los-angeles-wirepoints/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">homicide rate</a> was 18.4 people killed for every 100,000 residents. Los Angeles’ homicide rate was 7.5 people killed per 100,000; New York’s homicide rate was 3.6 people killed per 100,000.
