Speaking to Oprah Winfrey on Thursday, Vice President Kamala Harris suddenly championed the right to bear arms and defend oneself in one’s home, saying she would shoot someone who would break into her home.
Winfrey mentioned Harris acknowledging she was a gun owner in her debate with former President Donald Trump. “I did not know that,” Winfrey said. “And I thought that was powerful.”
“If somebody breaks into my house, they&#8217;re getting shot, sorry,&#8221; Harris answered.

Yet in 2020, Harris said Stand Your Ground laws were racist, saying, “These Stand Your Ground laws and these states that have these citizens’ arrest laws have often, often and frequently been used as an excuse if not a cover for people who are motivated by racism and racial profiling. And so we have seen that. And we have seen that it has been used as an excuse to kill black and brown people, and particularly black and brown young men.”

During the presidential debate, Harris declared, “This business about taking everyone&#8217;s guns away. Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We&#8217;re not taking anybody&#8217;s guns away. So stop with the continuous lying about this stuff.”
Harris previously advocated on multiple occasions during her failed 2020 presidential campaign for a &#8220;mandatory&#8221; gun buyback program of assault weapons. The Trump campaign <a href="https://x.com/TrumpWarRoom/status/1836953042408837535">responded</a> to Harris&#8217; remarks: &#8220;Can Kamala describe the make and model of the gun she allegedly owns? And explain why she spent years advocating for door-to-door, mandatory gun confiscation? This is called pandering — and nobody is buying the bulls***.&#8221;
Attorney and political commentator Laura Powell mocked Harris by highlighting her past support for law enforcement to enter people&#8217;s homes to inspect the way their firearms are stored.

A clip of Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a> went viral this week that showed remarks she made as San Francisco&#8217;s district attorney in which she said that police had the right to &#8220;walk into&#8221; people&#8217;s homes and inspect their legally-owned firearms.
The Democrat presidential nominee made the remarks while speaking to reporters during a press conference in 2007 about a law that was being introduced that she helped write.
Harris said, &#8220;We&#8217;re going to require responsible behaviors among everybody in the community, and just because you legally possess a gun in the sanctity of your locked home doesn&#8217;t mean that we&#8217;re not going to walk into that home and check to see if you&#8217;re being responsible and safe in the way you conduct your affairs.&#8221;
Fox News reported that the anti-gun bill was ultimately signed into law by then-San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom.
&#8220;It was bundled with other gun control provisions, including a new requirement for legal gun distributors to submit an inventory to the chief of police every six months, and a ban on possessing guns – even legally – in public housing,&#8221; the report said.
The NRA said in a post that included the video: &#8220;Kamala Harris wants mass gun confiscation, and she’s willing to weaponize the government to enter your home and seize your legally owned guns.&#8221;

Harris made the remarks during an interview with 6abc Action News when the interviewer brought up Harris&#8217; claim during the debate earlier this week that she owned a firearm.
&#8220;Where do you draw the line in America on gun ownership and gun use?&#8221; the interviewer asked.
&#8220;I am a gun owner,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;And Tim Walz, my running mate, is also a gun owner. We&#8217;re not taking anybody&#8217;s guns away. I support the Second Amendment and I support reasonable gun safety laws. Part of my approach to this is, I was a career prosecutor for most of my career. I have personally prosecuted homicide cases. I have personally looked at autopsies. I have personally seen what assault weapons do to the human body.&#8221;
&#8220;And so I feel very strongly that it is consistent with the Second Amendment and your right to own a gun to also say we need an assault weapons ban,&#8221; she continued. &#8220;They’re literally tools of war. They were literally designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly.&#8221;
Harris&#8217; claim that so-called &#8220;assault weapons&#8221; are &#8220;literally tools of war&#8221; is false.

The weapons that she is referring to are the civilian versions of weapons that militaries and law enforcement agencies use. They do not have the ability to burst fire, which is typically 3 rounds per each pull of the trigger, nor do they have the ability to fire full-auto, which allows the weapon to repeatedly fire until it runs out of ammunition with a single pull of the trigger as long as the operator does not release the trigger.
&#8220;I say we need universal background checks,&#8221; she claimed, even though people already have to undergo a background check to purchase a firearm from an FFL. &#8220;The majority of NRA members support that. Why? Because it&#8217;s just reasonable. You just might want to know before someone can buy a lethal weapon if they&#8217;ve been found by a court to be a danger to themselves or others. You just might want to know.&#8221;

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> released a statement calling for gun bans and condemning Republicans and gun manufacturers after at least four people were killed when a gunman opened fire at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday morning.
CNN reported that at least four people were killed and 30 people were injured after the shooter opened fire. The suspect, who is in police custody, is believed to be a 14-year-old male, a law enforcement source told <a href="https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/apalachee-high-school-shooting-georgia-09-04-24/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CNN</a>. Biden released a statement Wednesday afternoon, saying he is &#8220;mourning the deaths of those whose lives were cut short due to more senseless gun violence.&#8221;
“What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia, has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart. Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal,” the president said.
Biden then slammed Republicans for their &#8220;inaction&#8221; on gun legislation, adding, &#8220;Republicans in Congress must finally say ‘enough is enough’ and work with Democrats to pass common-sense gun safety legislation.&#8221;
&#8220;We must ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines once again, require safe storage of firearms, enact universal background checks, and end immunity for gun manufacturers,&#8221; the statement continued.

Police responded to an active shooting at the high school at 10:23 a.m. ET and detained the suspect. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said that nine people have been hospitalized with injuries following the shooting. CNN reported earlier that as many as 30 people were wounded in the shooting, but it&#8217;s unclear how many of those injuries were due to gunshot wounds and if they all required hospitalization.
Apalachee High School is 45 miles east of Atlanta and has nearly 2,000 students.

The special prosecutor who charged actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alec-baldwin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Alec Baldwin</a> with involuntary manslaughter said the judge in the case “improperly” dismissed the charges.
Kari Morrissey argued in a July 31 filing made public on Monday that Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer used flawed reasoning in order to get the charges dismissed against Baldwin, Deadline <a href="https://deadline.com/2024/08/alec-baldwin-case-dismissed-improperly-prosecutor-claims-1236032139/">reported</a>.
The charges stem from an incident on the set of Baldwin’s film “Rust,” on October 21, 2021, when Baldwin began filming a scene and the gun he was holding fired a live round that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured the film’s director, Joel Souza.
The armorer in charge of weapons on set, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison for her role in Hutchins’ death.
Gutierrez Reed filed an expedited motion last month asking for a new trial after Baldwin’s case was dismissed due to prosecutors withholding evidence from the defense.
Special prosecutor Morrissey also argued in his filing that Guetierrez Reed should not get a new trial.
“Based on the Court’s off-record statement, it was apparent that the Court was intending to dismiss the case,” Morrissey wrote. “Although the Court’s final order has not yet been filed, undersigned counsel contends that the Court misunderstood the testimony on July 12, 2024, and improperly dismissed the case against Mr. Baldwin.”
“If the Court were to decide that the dismissal of the case against Mr. Baldwin was proper there is one HUGE difference – in the Gutierrez case the State was not in possession of the Teske ammunition prior to trial (although arguably Mr. Bowles was), in the Baldwin case the State was in possession of the Teske ammunition,” the prosecution filing stated, referring to the Colt .45 rounds that suddenly appeared thanks to ex-Arizona cop Troy Teske, who was a friend of Gutierrez Reed’s father, himself a Hollywood gun coach. “[Guttierez Reed’s attorney Jason] Bowles is comparing apples and oranges and trying to make a square peg fit in a round hole.”

Sommer had ruled that the prosecution was “highly culpable for its failure to provide discovery to the defendant,” thus warranting the case to be dismissed with prejudice, meaning prosecutors can’t regroup and try Baldwin again.
“The late discovery of this evidence has impacted the fundamental fairness of the proceedings,” Sommer ruled. “There is no way for the court to right this wrong. The sanction of dismissal is the only warranted remedy.”
Baldwin was an executive producer on the film, which is why he was charged with involuntary manslaughter. He faced up to 18 months in prison if he had been convicted. “Rust” was canceled after the incident, and it is unclear when or if Baldwin will return to movies or television.

A man wearing a ski mask who was armed with an AK-47 was arrested near the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/republican-national-committee-rnc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republican National Convention</a> this week as he approached the perimeter of the event, police revealed in a statement Tuesday evening.
Homeland Security Investigators and Capitol Police were surveilling the area on Monday, which comes just days after former President Donald Trump was shot during an assassination attempt, when they noticed a suspicious man approaching, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/armed-man-ski-mask-arrested-while-approaching-republican-national-convention-perimeter-milwaukee" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The man was carrying a tactical bag that had an AK-47 and ammunition inside, the report said. It&#8217;s not clear what he was planning to do.
&#8220;Milwaukee Police arrested a 21-year-old man for carrying a concealed weapon on July 15, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., on the 1200 block of N. 11th Street,&#8221; the Milwaukee Police Department said in a statement. &#8220;United States Capitol Police initially observed the suspect looking suspicious, wearing a ski mask and a large tactical backpack in the street.&#8221;
&#8220;United States Capitol Police performed a subject stop, and it was determined that the suspect was concealing a firearm in his backpack,&#8221; the statement added. &#8220;The suspect does not have a legal CCW permit in Wisconsin or any other state. The suspect was arrested, and charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney&#8217;s Office.&#8221;

There is no such thing as a free nation where the police and military are allowed to keep and bear arms and citizens are not. Our Founding Fathers understood this and enshrined the basic right to self-defense in the U.S. Constitution. The Second Amendment guarantees the absolute ability to live in peace without fear.
The U.S. Supreme Court has, time and again, reaffirmed that right. Yet elected Democrats and other stakeholders continue their all-out assault on this freedom with the ultimate goal of denying law-abiding Americans the opportunity to purchase and carry guns.
That’s why, in 2022, I became concerned when Visa and Mastercard <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/visa-to-categorize-sales-at-gun-stores-in-win-for-gun-control-advocates" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> they would separately categorize and track purchases for guns and ammunition. This move followed the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), an international standards organization based out of Europe, approving an application for a firearm-specific Merchant Category Code (MCC). This move would set a dangerous precedent targeting legal gun owners, the <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/09/13/key-facts-about-americans-and-guns/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vast majority</a> of whom are Republicans or independents who lean Right.
A specific MCC for gun purchases would subject Americans attempting to exercise their constitutional rights to unnecessary and unethical surveillance. If rolled out, a national gun registry would be closer than ever, even though it is <a href="https://www.nraila.org/get-the-facts/registration-licensing/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">prohibited</a> by federal law. The Left, however, does not care about the rule of law and they certainly aren’t hiding their desire to take away your freedoms. An elected Democrat recently <a href="https://vinnews.com/2024/07/09/rep-bonnie-watson-coleman-advocates-for-national-gun-registry-during-atf-debate/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> a federal gun registry a “wonderful idea.”
A gun-specific MCC is a clear threat to the privacy and Second Amendment rights of all Americans. Not only does it present an easy opportunity for liberal institutions to de-bank firearms sellers, which is abruptly closing financial accounts for religious and political reasons, but it could also discourage Americans from exercising their Constitutionally-protected rights. Importantly, the MCC would do absolutely nothing to improve public safety.
The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-than-100-house-republicans-demand-answers-from-credit-card-giants-categorizing-sales-at-gun-stores" target="_blank" rel="noopener">application</a> for a gun- and ammo-specific MCC came from Amalgamated Bank in 2022, a <a href="https://amalgamatedbank.com/who-we-are" target="_blank" rel="noopener">blatantly Left-wing</a> company that dubs itself America’s “socially responsible bank” and proudly says deposited money supports “sustainable organizations, progressive causes, and social justice.” Upon further examination, it’s clear the organization is closely connected to the Democrat Party. The New York Times in 2015 even <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/02/07/how-amalgamated-bank-became-the-the-lefts-private-banker/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called</a> it “the left’s private banker.”
Clients of the union-owned bank <a href="https://amalgamatedbank.com/political-organizations" target="_blank" rel="noopener">include</a> President Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Nancy Pelosi. Additional past and present clients <a href="https://amalgamatedbank.com/clients" target="_blank" rel="noopener">include</a> the Democratic Governors Association, the Biden Foundation, the Democratic National Committee, and Ready for Hillary 2016. Not exactly ardent defenders of the Second Amendment.
Amalgamated has also explicitly <a href="https://amalgamatedbank.com/anti-violence-and-gun-safety" target="_blank" rel="noopener">called for</a> unconstitutional red-flag laws and says it discriminates against gun, nuclear weapon and ammunition manufacturers and distributors. Radical private organizations like this and the ISO should be nowhere near our Second Amendment.
At the time of the approval, Amalgamated Chief Executive Priscilla Sims Brown <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/09/10/business/gun-stores-merchant-code-visa-american-express-mastercard/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the move “answers the call of millions of Americans who want safety from gun violence.” Does this call supersede the constitutional right to keep and bear arms? As a state representative serving the people of Northwest Tennessee, I can tell you my constituents would say that coastal elites and liberal corporations better stay far away from their guns and finances.
That’s why I set out to ensure this gun tracking scheme would never happen in the Volunteer State. This year, I sponsored the Second Amendment Financial Privacy Act, which was passed by the General Assembly and went into effect July 1. This new law will prohibit financial institutions from requiring retailers to use a specific MCC for firearms sellers in Tennessee.
Law-abiding Americans deserve to make these purchases without fear of liberal corporations and an overbearing federal government coordinating to spy on them. I was proud to provide that peace of mind to Tennesseans with the passage of this new law.
Just before the new law took effect, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti warned that Visa, Mastercard and American Express were potentially gearing up to ignore it.
“Specifically, I am concerned that your compliance efforts are not sufficient and will allow you and other financial institutions to continue to utilize impermissible codes in violation of Tennessee law,” he <a href="https://www.tn.gov/content/dam/tn/attorneygeneral/documents/pr/2024/pr24-53-letter.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a June letter to the chief executives of each company.
No credit card company should be able to cancel the votes of millions of Tennesseans by disobeying our policies.
We’ve already seen the Orwellian-like behavior from the Biden Administration and the private companies all too willing to hand over sensitive information. Earlier this year, the House Judiciary Committee <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/media/in-the-news/alarming-surveillance-feds-asked-banks-search-private-transactions-terms-maga" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> federal investigators had asked financial institutions to search customer transactions for various MCCs, stores and phrases, including Cabela’s, Bass Pro Shops, Dicks Sporting Goods, and MAGA.
The goal? Rooting out alleged “extremism” following the events at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.
If the federal government and private companies are already using banking information to target conservatives, ask yourself why they might want a separate MCC for firearms and ammunition sellers. It’s clear that in attempting to force these codes on Americans, they are also attempting to reshape what the Second Amendment means in our country.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hunter-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hunter Biden</a>&#8216;s law license in Washington, D.C., has been suspended after the first son was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-biden-guilty-on-all-counts-in-gun-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">found guilty</a> on all charges in his federal gun trial in Delaware earlier this month.
A D.C. Court of Appeals <a href="https://x.com/kyledcheney/status/1805619568511000853" target="_blank" rel="noopener">order</a> on Tuesday said Biden is &#8220;suspended immediately from the practice of law &#8230; pending resolution of this matter&#8221; following his conviction on three felony counts that appear to be &#8220;serious crimes&#8221; as defined by D.C. Bar rules.
Chief Judge Anna Blackburne-Rigsby, who signed the order, also said the Board on Professional Responsibility is &#8220;directed to institute a formal proceeding to determine the nature of the offense and whether it involves moral turpitude.&#8221;
Biden has <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/06/18/hunter-biden-law-license-suspended/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> been a member of the D.C. bar since 2007, though CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/25/politics/hunter-biden-law-license-suspended/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that he has worked as an attorney in recent years as he sought income from other ventures, such as his 2021 memoir called &#8220;Beautiful Things&#8221; and his <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/an-ethics-nightmare-hunter-biden-art-gallerist-interviewed-by-house-investigators" target="_blank" rel="noopener">art career</a>.
A disciplinary office in the nation&#8217;s capital <a href="https://www.yahoo.com/news/disciplinary-office-proposes-suspension-hunter-045011817.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recommended</a> that Biden&#8217;s law license be suspended a little more than a week after the 54-year-old was convicted of lying on paperwork for a revolver and owning the firearm while being a drug addict in 2018.
Court records <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/06/25/us-news/hunter-bidens-dc-law-license-suspended-after-gun-conviction-in-latest-blow-to-first-son/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">highlighted</a> by the New York Post <a href="https://www.jud.ct.gov/attorneyfirminquiry/JurisDetail.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">indicate</a> that Biden also has a law license in Connecticut that has been placed on administrative suspension for a failure to pay a fee.

The verdict in the gun trial could land Biden in prison for up to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-biden-faces-up-to-25-years-in-prison-if-convicted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">25 years</a> and lead to fines as high as $750,000. However, The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/06/18/hunter-biden-law-license-suspended/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> that Biden probably will receive a lighter sentence because he is a first-time offender.
Attorneys for Biden submitted a filing on Monday requesting a new trial while arguing that a federal appeals court did not give the trial court formal permission to proceed after dismissing his appeals, <a href="https://t.co/BWNHRbXU3t" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Reuters</a>.
President Joe Biden, who is running for a second term in the White House, has said he will not <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-claims-he-wont-pardon-his-son-if-hes-convicted-on-federal-gun-charges" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pardon</a> his son or <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/biden-would-not-commute-potential-sentence-son-hunter-biden/story?id=111095314" target="_blank" rel="noopener">commute</a> whatever sentence Hunter may receive.
Hunter Biden is also facing a tax trial in California, which is set to begin in September. The indictments in gun and tax cases, which took shape after the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-biden-plea-deal-almost-derails-after-questions-about-scope-of-deal-immunity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">collapse of a plea deal last year</a>, are spearheaded by special counsel David Weiss.

In a new court filing, prosecutors have revealed some of the allegations against actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/alec-baldwin">Alec Baldwin</a> that will be presented in his upcoming trial.
The 66-year-old will stand trial in conjunction with the death of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/entertainment">cinematographer</a> Halyna Hutchins, who was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/murder">shot and killed</a> in 2021 by a firearm Baldwin was holding while filming the Western film, “Rust.” The actor maintains that the gun misfired, and he never pulled the trigger. But now reps for Hutchins claim Baldwin engaged in unsafe behaviors on the set. 
New court documents claim Baldwin asked for the “biggest” gun available and proceeded to mishandle it during filming.
The documents prepared by prosecutors state that the “30 Rock” star “used his gun as a pointer directing crew members” and “discharged the revolver after the filming was over and ‘cut’ was called.”
In the <a href="https://nmcourts.gov/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/June-17-2024-States-Notice-to-Introduce-Other-Acts-Evidence-839p.pdf">court filing</a>, prosecutors <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/19/entertainment/rust-prosecutors-alec-baldwin-reckless-handling-firearm/index.html">claim</a> Baldwin “engaged in horseplay with the revolver while making videos.” Baldwin stands accused of pointing the gun at a crew member and firing a blank round “while using that crew member as a line of site (sic) as his perceived target,” according to the documents. They say he also “shot several scenes wherein he placed his finger on the trigger of the revolver where the scene did not require any shooting of the firearm.” 
Baldwin pleaded not guilty to the manslaughter charges. He has attempted to have charges dismissed and rejected a plea deal.
The team also claims that the actor “was insistent that he not be required to follow safety recommendations made by film set safety experts” when filming resumed in Montana a year after Hutchins’ death.

Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, set armorer for “Rust,” was sentenced to 18 months in prison after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter charges earlier this year. 
Baldwin also recently announced that he will star in a reality show about his life along with his wife, Hilaria, and their seven children. The news was met with skepticism, including from celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred. 
“This appears to me to be a calculated and cynical public relations move to try to influence the jury pool in New Mexico to think of him as a sympathetic family man rather than as the killer of Halyna Hutchins,” she told <a href="https://www.tmz.com/2024/06/05/halyna-hutchins-family-attorney-gloria-allred-slam-alec-baldwin-reality-tv-show/">TMZ</a> of the series.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/supreme-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Supreme Court</a> struck down a federal ban on bump stocks enacted by the Trump administration on Friday. 
The 6-3 ruling was split along ideological lines. Justice <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/clarence-thomas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clarence Thomas</a> wrote in the majority opinion that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) exceeded its statutory authority when it announced a ban on bump stocks following a 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas. In the ruling, Thomas said that equipping rifles with bump stocks does not turn them into machine guns, meaning they cannot be prohibited under existing law.
“This case asks whether a bump stock — an accessory for a semi-automatic rifle that allows the shooter to rapidly reengage the trigger (and therefore achieve a high rate of fire) — converts the rifle into a ‘machinegun,’” Thomas <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/22-976_e29g.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a> in his decision. “We conclude that semiautomatic rifle equipped with a bump stock is not a ‘machinegun’ because it does not fire more than one shot &#8216;by a single function of the trigger.&#8217;”
A <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/supreme-court-agrees-to-take-up-challenge-to-trump-era-bump-stock-ban" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bump stock</a> is a device that can be attached to a semi-automatic firearm. It reduces the length of time between trigger pulls by harnessing the gun’s energy from recoil.
Thomas was joined in his decision by Justices John Roberts, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Amy Coney Barrett, and Samuel Alito, who wrote a concurring opinion. In his concurrence, Alito said it would require new congressional legislation to ban bump stocks. 
“The horrible shooting spree in Las Vegas in 2017 did not change the statutory text or its meaning. That event demonstrated that a semiautomatic rifle with a bump stock can have the same lethal effect as a machinegun,” Alito wrote. “There is a simple remedy for the disparate treatment of bump stocks and machineguns. Congress can amend the law—and perhaps would have done so already if ATF had stuck with its earlier interpretation.”

The three liberals on the court, Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and Ketanji Brown Jackson, all dissented. 
The <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/supreme-court-rules-gun-bump-stocks-ban-unlawful-rcna154651" target="_blank" rel="noopener">case came</a> to the high court after gun owner Michael Cargill sued the government to reverse the ban after he turned in two of his bump stocks to the feds. 
As the case made its way through the court system, both the 5th and 6th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the ban. Biden’s Justice Department defended the rule in court after it was implemented by the Trump administration.

Today, a federal jury in Wilmington, Delaware, found that the president&#8217;s son, Hunter Biden, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hunter-biden-guilty-on-all-counts-in-gun-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">violated the law</a> when he lied about his drug use on a gun store firearms form to obtain a revolver, speed loader, and ammunition in October of 2018.
This was not a particularly close case. Evidence showed, among many other things, that Biden was texting his drug dealer the day before he bought the gun. The upshot, however, is that Hunter Biden becomes the first son of a United States president to become a felon in the history of the country. For much of the national news media, Hunter Biden&#8217;s trial and conviction is proof that the justice system is fair and impartial. Therefore, we should conclude that Donald Trump&#8217;s prosecutions are legitimate.
It&#8217;s fine to imprison the leading presidential frontrunner on a novel and untested legal theory, they say, because the current president&#8217;s son could potentially go to jail for crimes he obviously committed.
A columnist for The Daily Beast, for example, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/hunters-trial-reveals-trumps-big-lie-about-biden-and-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>:
<blockquote>Hunter Biden’s trial &#8230; shows that Trump’s principal assertion—that he is being unfairly targeted by Joe Biden—doesn’t hold water.</blockquote>
CNN, meanwhile, <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/06/04/media/hunter-biden-trial-right-wing-media/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ran this headline:</a>
<blockquote>Hunter Biden trial shows America’s justice system isn’t so rigged after all.</blockquote>
In order to come to a conclusion like this, you have to ignore the circumstances of how this trial came about, as well as the many crimes Hunter Biden has not been charged with — and, thanks to the DOJ, will never be charged with. Under Joe Biden, the federal government, very simply, did not want to bring this case. And when their hand was forced by two IRS whistleblowers, the federal government did everything they possibly could to protect Joe Biden and to sabotage more serious foreign corruption and tax evasion charges.

As the New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/19/us/politics/inside-hunter-biden-plea-deal.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> last year, the lead prosecutor on the case, David Weiss, &#8220;appeared willing to forgo any prosecution of Mr. Biden at all, and his office came close to agreeing to end the investigation without requiring a guilty plea on any charges. But the correspondence reveals that his position, relayed through his staff, changed in the spring, around the time a pair of I.R.S. officials on the case accused the Justice Department of hamstringing the investigation.&#8221;
One of those whistleblowers, Gary Shapley, <a href="https://waysandmeans.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/Whistleblower-1-Transcript_Redacted.pdf#page=9" target="_blank" rel="noopener">alleged</a> in an affidavit that:
<blockquote>But the criminal tax investigation of Hunter Biden, led by the United States Attorney&#8217;s Office for the District of Delaware, has been handled differently than any investigation I&#8217;ve ever been a part of for the past 14 years of my IRS service. &#8230; At every stage decisions were made that had the effect of benefiting the subject.</blockquote>
Shapely also stated:
<blockquote>Investigators assigned to this investigation were obstructed from seeing all the available evidence. It is unknown if all the evidence in [Hunter&#8217;s] laptop was reviewed by agents or by prosecutors.</blockquote>
The testimony of Shapley and another whistleblower caused major, unexpected problems for Joe Biden&#8217;s DOJ. Their plan to bury the Hunter Biden case entirely was no longer viable.
First of all, the whistleblowers revealed that Merrick Garland may have lied when he told Congress that the DOJ wasn&#8217;t interfering in the Hunter Biden investigation. That had to be resolved immediately.
Secondly, and more importantly, the whistleblowers helped establish a direct link between Hunter Biden&#8217;s criminal activity and Joe Biden&#8217;s actions. 
Here&#8217;s one recent interview, for example:

Confronted with statements like this from whistleblowers, the DOJ had no choice but to bring some kind of charge against Hunter Biden. So they settled on a plan: They would bring a prosecution, and then immediately seek out a plea deal. This deal, as the DOJ envisioned it, would grant Hunter Biden immunity from prosecution for unrelated felonies he may have committed — including potential violations of FARA, or the Foreign Agents Registration Act, relating to his overseas business operations. That&#8217;s the law that was essentially never prosecuted until the DOJ decided to use it to target Trump aides, including Paul Manafort.
In exchange for accepting this plea deal granting him total immunity, Hunter Biden would suffer no actual punishment whatsoever. The deal was too over-the-top, though, which is why it collapsed late last year when a federal judge refused to sign off. The DOJ admitted in court that they couldn&#8217;t think of a similar sweetheart deal ever being offered in the history of federal prosecutions.
So the DOJ was back at square one — but not entirely. Their strategy to absolve Hunter Biden completely may have failed, but their plan to insulate Joe Biden from scrutiny appears to have succeeded.
As Shapely stated in his affidavit, the sabotaged investigative process into Hunter Biden:
<blockquote>… meant no charges would ever be brought in the District of Columbia, where the statute of limitations on the 2014 and &#8217;15 [tax] charges would eventually expire. The years in question included foreign income from [Ukrainian oil company] Burisma and a scheme to evade his income taxes through a partnership with a convicted felon. There were also potential FARA issues relating to 2014 and 2015. The purposeful exclusion of the 2014 and 2015 years sanitized the most substantive criminal conduct and concealed material facts.</blockquote>
In other words, the government let the statute of limitations on the most serious potential charges — the ones involving Hunter Biden&#8217;s time working at a high-paying, no-show job at a Ukrainian oil company — expire on purpose. And those potential charges aren&#8217;t simply significant because of their impact on Hunter Biden. They&#8217;re significant because, as you may remember, Joe Biden once publicly bragged about getting Ukraine&#8217;s top prosecutor fired. This was the prosecutor who, coincidentally enough, was investigating Burisma at the time. Watch:

That&#8217;s Joe Biden admitting that, when he was vice president, the U.S. threatened to withhold funding to Ukraine until Ukraine fired its own top prosecutor. You can choose to believe that Joe Biden is just really passionate about ending corruption in eastern Europe or it might be that Joe Biden wanted to take the heat off the corruption that his own family was engaging in.
We&#8217;ll probably never have the evidence of any such corruption now, though — because as Shapely said, 
<blockquote>There is no mechanism available to collect the tax owed by Hunter Biden for 2014 other than in a voluntary fashion.</blockquote>
This is the ultimate goal of the Hunter Biden prosecution. The DOJ isn&#8217;t concerned about this gun case. Their real objective has been to slow-roll their work as much as possible, so that the more serious charges expire. And it&#8217;s very clear, as the whistleblower said, that there&#8217;s a viable reason to investigate not only Hunter Biden for potential FARA violations, but also his father.
Congressional Republicans, for example, have <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/hunter-biden-whatsapp-message-fuels-gop-assertions-corruption/story?id=100338044" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> a July 2017 WhatsApp message in which Hunter Biden appears to threaten a Chinese business associate by mentioning his father. According to court documents, Hunter Biden wrote:
<blockquote>I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled. … Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand, and now means tonight. &#8230; And, Z, if I get a call or text from anyone involved in this other than you, Zhang, or the chairman, I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. &#8230; I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.</blockquote>
So that&#8217;s a conversation that strongly suggests that Joe Biden was directly involved with his son&#8217;s foreign business dealings with a Chinese private equity fund closely tied to the Chinese Communist Party — and that he&#8217;d leverage his influence to secure payouts.
These are the kinds of investigative threads that the DOJ has been working to bury since they obtained Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop all the way back in December of 2019 — as part of an investigation dating back to 2018.
These investigations haven&#8217;t taken so long because they&#8217;re particularly complicated. They&#8217;ve gone on for so long because the federal government has been trying to run out the clock. First they denied that the laptop was even real, then they slow-walked the investigation into its contents. And when two IRS whistleblowers disrupted their plan, they selected the pettiest charges imaginable so that they can obscure the real crimes they desperately don&#8217;t want to investigate.
Hunter Biden was convicted today for only one reason — so that Joe Biden won&#8217;t ever be investigated.

Special Counsel David Weiss said following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hunter-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hunter Biden&#8217;s</a> felony convictions on Tuesday that no one is above the law in the United States.
Jurors convicted Hunter Biden, 54, on all three felony counts, including lying to a federally licensed firearms dealer, making a false claim on a federal firearms background check form, and being in possession of an illegally obtained firearm. Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison for his crimes and up to $750,000 in fines.
&#8220;Earlier today, Hunter Biden was convicted of two counts of lying on a form submitted to a federal firearms dealer about his addiction, or use of crack cocaine, and possessing a firearm, while a user or addict,&#8221; Weiss said at a press conference. &#8220;There have been two overarching themes emphasized by the prosecution during trial: this defendant&#8217;s illegal choices and the rule of law.&#8221;
&#8220;First, while there has been much testimony about the defendant&#8217;s abuse of drugs and alcohol, ultimately, this case was not just about addiction — a disease that haunts families across the United States, including Hunter Biden&#8217;s family,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;This case was about the illegal choices [the] defendant made while in the throes of addiction, his choice to lie on a government form when he bought a gun, and the choice to then possess that gun. It was these choices and the combination of guns and drugs that made his conduct dangerous.&#8221;
&#8220;Second, no one in this country is above the law,&#8221; he added. &#8220;Everyone must be accountable for their actions, even this defendant. However, Hunter Biden should be no more accountable than any other citizen convicted of this same conduct.
