Pro-gun organizations are suing the federal government to challenge regulations on silencers and short-barreled firearms in an attempt to parlay a legal change in the Big Beautiful Bill into a complete overhaul of longstanding restrictions on guns.
Dubbed the “Big Beautiful Lawsuit,” the suit from the <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CjfrnG-xcUXkRmCwdAs7Tyik/https://ssf.org/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Silencer Shop Foundation</a>, Gun Owners of America, Palmetto State Armory, and other pro-gun organizations argues that the regulation of the items by the 1934 National Firearms Act (NFA) is unconstitutional in the wake of a legislative change.
The lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms comes in the wake of the passage of the Big Beautiful Bill, which will eliminate the $200 tax on silencers, short-barreled rifles, and other firearms regulated through the National Firearms Act beginning in 2026.
The suit contends that the elimination of the tax on silencers, short barreled rifles and shotguns, and a third category referred to as “any other weapon,” removes the Constitutional justification for their inclusion in the act.
The NFA has allowed the federal government to maintain a registry of those purchasing items covered by the 1934 law for the purposes of ensuring tax compliance, but now with the tax set to be sunsetted, the justification for the federal list becomes increasingly legally flimsy.
“This lawsuit isn’t about picking a fight — it’s about ending one that started in 1934. For nearly a century, Americans have been told they need to beg for permission to protect their own hearing,&#8221; asserts Dave Matheny, the CEO and founder of Silencer Shop. “That’s not safety. That’s government inertia. We’re fighting to restore the kind of common sense our grandparents took for granted — where you could enjoy your rights without a calendar and a checkbook standing in the way.”

Senior Vice President of Gun Owners of America Erich Pratt highlighted the monumental opportunity presented by the elimination of the tax.

Kennedy defended his decision to fire CDC Director Susan Monarez, saying she had twice admitted to him that she was not &#8220;trustworthy.&#8221; He also stood by his overhaul of the CDC&#8217;s vaccine advisory panel (ACIP), stating the old panel was &#8220;plagued with conflicts of interest.&#8221;
When Democrats praised Operation Warp Speed in an apparent attempt to drive a wedge between him and the president, Kennedy said Trump deserved a Nobel Prize for it, but that the risk-benefit &#8220;calculus is different&#8221; now that the virus has mutated and adverse event reports have piled up. Notorious left-wing author Stephen King is claiming that guns are to blame for the horrific shooting at a Catholic school in Minneapolis, not the fact that the shooter identified as transgender.

“There is a clear pattern here,” Musk said in reply to Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s post identifying the shooter as a 23-year-old man claiming to be transgender. “This deranged monster targeted our most vulnerable: young children praying in their first morning Mass of the school year. This deeply sick murderer scrawled the words ‘For the Children’ and ‘Where is your God?’ and ‘Kill Donald Trump’ on a rifle magazine,” Noem wrote in her post.
King’s followers disagreed with his assessment.
“He was mentally ill and had a gun[,] dumbass. Had he been diagnosed he wouldn’t have had a gun but d***heads like you celebrate it rather than acknowledge they need treatment,” one person <a href="https://x.com/SaltyGoat17/status/1960830133838942407">wrote</a>.
“Stephen, the gun didn’t walk into a Christian school on its own. A trans-identified man did,” another popular reply said. “That’s the point. You’ll name the tool but never the ideology, because acknowledging the pattern exposes the deviance you and your party defend.”

The shooter in the tragedy, identified as 23-year-old Robin Westman (previously Robert Westman), fired “dozens of rounds” into Annunciation Church as students were attending mass on Wednesday morning. An 8-year-old and a 10-year-old died, and 14 children and 3 adults were injured. Westman then turned the gun on himself.
Westman is the latest in a series of transgender-identifying people who have committed school shootings, including the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting in 2019 and the Covenant School Shooting in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2023.
Westman wrote in a journal entry that he was “tired of being trans” and regretted that he “brain-washed” himself. His <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/what-we-know-about-the-trans-identifying-gunman-who-slaughtered-catholic-school-children">personal writings</a> also included references to assassinating President Donald Trump and hatred for Jews. The deceased shooter also wrote that killing “children of innocent civilians” would give him “the most joy.”

A conservative policy powerhouse is calling for changes to financial rules that allow the government to pressure banks into cutting ties with groups they find ideologically objectionable.
The America First Policy Institute&#8217;s Center For American Prosperity on Wednesday <a href="https://www.americafirstpolicy.com/issues/debanked-when-political-bias-trumps-financial-judgment">released</a> &#8220;Debanked: When Political Bias Trumps Financial Judgment.&#8221; The white paper outlines five proposals that the authors say would stop government regulators from weaponizing their influence over banks to further their political agendas.
Debanking &#8220;creates a de facto blacklist of people and organizations that have lost access to banking services and have significant difficulty regaining access to banking,&#8221; Jill Homan, Deputy Director of Trade and Economic Policy, and David Vasquez, Senior Policy Analyst for Energy &amp; Environment at AFPI, write in the report.
&#8220;Debanking creates uncertainty and hardship. In a nation governed by laws, the practice of legal coercion through regulatory discretion is antithetical to the American system of justice,&#8221; the authors add.
&#8220;Ultimately, debanking is not just an economic problem, but a constitutional one. When federal officials use unofficial “guidance” to achieve what Congress never authorized, they violate both the spirit and letter of the law. The solution is to excise power from the regulators, and that begins with narrowing their discretion.&#8221;
President Donald Trump made a similar point earlier this year.
“The regulators control the banks,&#8221; Trump said in June. &#8220;It’s not the president of the bank. The president of the bank is far less important to a bank than a regulator, and a regulator can put that bank out of business.”
Debanking reached a fever pitch in 2013, when the Obama Justice Department launched “Operation Choke Point.&#8221; Under the operation, the Justice Department targeted “companies believed to be at a high risk for fraud and money laundering.&#8221; In reality, Choke Point involved government officials pressuring banks to cut ties with firearms dealers and other businesses the Obama administration deemed intolerable. The Biden administration continued its debanking efforts with <a href="https://financialservices.house.gov/news/documentsingle.aspx?DocumentID=409457">Operation Choke Point 2.0</a>, an effort to target the cryptocurrency industry.
In addition to the firearms and crypto industries, religious groups and conservative organizations have also been frequent targets of government-run debanking.
The authors suggest a number of policy tweaks that could prevent future debanking efforts. They urge Congress to pass the Financial Integrity and Regulation Management Act, which would “remove the subjective criteria of &#8216;reputational risk&#8217; which bank regulators use to evaluate a financial institution. … Instead, financial regulators would rely entirely on objective criteria to assess financial soundness.”
The law would also restrict the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation from judging a financial institution’s trustworthiness on the “competency of bank management,” which is evaluated based on the risk regulators believe the institution is exposed to, based on the businesses it serves.
The authors also call for a uniform “Federal Fair Access” standard that would “end the need for states to develop separate debanking legislation that further complicates banking operations with a patchwork of inconsistent and conflicting state laws.”
A requirement to notify customers and explain the reasoning ahead of a decision by a financial institution to end its relationship with someone would increase transparency. Modernizing old regulations would also mitigate problems brought about by using a 1970s legal framework in the present-day financial environment.
&#8220;Whether the result of politically driven regulators abusing their authority or bad policies, this administration and Congress have an opportunity to dramatically curb the practice of government-driven debanking across the country through federal action,&#8221; the authors conclude. &#8220;Doing so involves reducing subjectivity and instituting these changes into law.&#8221;

Let’s take a look at Newsom’s record on guns.
In June 2021, Newsom <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/2021/06/04/governor-newsom-statement-on-assault-weapons-court-decision/">bashed</a> a federal judge after the judge ruled that California’s assault weapons ban was “unconstitutional” and violated the Second Amendment.
“The fact that this judge compared the AR-15 – a weapon of war that’s used on the battlefield – to a Swiss Army Knife completely undermines the credibility of this decision and is a slap in the face to the families who’ve lost loved ones to this weapon,” Newsom claimed. “We’re not backing down from this fight, and we’ll continue pushing for common sense gun laws that will save lives.”
But the AR-15 is not a “weapon of war,” and it is not “used on the battlefield” by modern militaries. The AR-15 is the civilian version of the U.S. military’s M4 rifle. The M4 is able to fire in a fully automatic mode, while the AR-15 is a semi-automatic rifle.
In December 2021, after the Supreme Court decided to leave a Texas anti-abortion law in place, Newsom responded by threatening gun sellers and manufacturers with fines of “at least $10,000,” posting on X, “SCOTUS is letting private citizens in Texas sue to stop abortion?! If that’s the precedent then we’ll let Californians sue those who put ghost guns and assault weapons on our streets. If TX can ban abortion and endanger lives, CA can ban deadly weapons of war and save lives.”

In July 2022, Newsom signed a law permitting lawsuits to be filed against gun makers. The law, <a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220AB1594">AB 1594</a>, created a “firearm industry standard of conduct,” including the requirement to “[e]stablish, implement, and enforce reasonable controls” and “[t]ake reasonable precautions to ensure that the firearm industry member does not sell, distribute, or provide a firearm-related product to a downstream distributor or retailer of firearm-related products who fails to establish, implement, and enforce reasonable controls.”
In June 2023, Newsom <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2023/06/08/newsom-gun-control-amendment-00100954">proposed</a> a 28th Amendment to the Constitution that would ban “assault weapons,” implement universal background checks for gun purchases, raise the federal minimum age for buying a firearm from 18 to 21, and impose a mandatory “reasonable” waiting period for all gun purchases.
In September 2023, Newsom signed into law a bill that “specifically bans people from carrying guns in 26 places, including public parks and playgrounds, public demonstrations and gatherings, amusement parks, churches, banks, zoos and ‘any other privately owned commercial establishment that is open to the public’ unless the owner puts up a sign saying guns are allowed,” the AP <a href="https://apnews.com/article/california-guns-ammunition-tax-school-safety-0870a673a3d4e85c78466897cfd7ff6f">noted</a>.
He’s not anti-gun at all.

Tragedy struck Minnesota at the end of last week when a gunman, apparently disguised as a police officer, opened fire on two different state lawmakers and their spouses. Two of the four were killed, and the other two were hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds.
As the horrific news broke, however, Democrats and media talking heads were quick to point the finger at increasingly &#8220;heated rhetoric&#8221; — almost always using President Donald Trump as the prime example of that — and the availability and accessibility of firearms.
For those who don&#8217;t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to dig through a week&#8217;s worth of network and cable news media spin — The Daily Wire has compiled a short summary of what you may have missed.
On CBS News&#8217; &#8220;Face the Nation,&#8221; Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dem-senator-removed-by-security-after-disrupting-noem-presser-in-los-angeles">Alex Padilla</a> (D-CA) — fresh off his dramatic ouster from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem&#8217;s press conference — immediately blamed President Donald Trump for ratcheting up the temperature in political discourse.
Padilla praised the Senate Sergeant at Arms and the Capitol Police for their attention to the increased threats against lawmakers and for how hard they were working to keep everyone safe.
&#8220;I think it&#8217;s more than appropriate to step back and say, why are tensions so high?&#8230; and I can&#8217;t help but point to the beginning of not just the first Trump term, but the beginning of the campaign, the tone with which the president had launched his first campaign for president, served throughout his first term, and continues in this term,&#8221; Padilla said.

Senator Adam Schiff took a similar tone on NBC News&#8217; &#8220;Meet the Press,&#8221; telling anchor Kristen Welker that Trump&#8217;s rhetoric was an &#8220;encouragement&#8221; to use violence. Schiff conceded that there was an increase in violent rhetoric on both sides of the political aisle, but only mentioned Trump by name.

Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) also called for politicians and pundits alike to tone down the political rhetoric, as she joined CNN&#8217;s &#8220;State of the Union&#8221; to discuss the tragic shooting.
&#8220;This has gotten totally out of hand&#8230; We actually put out a joint statement that said we speak with one voice in condemning political violence. I think we need to see more of this across our country. People need to call people out. Some people need to look in the mirror and say, hey, I have got to stop this or stop my colleagues from doing this, because it makes it much worse. During a panel discussion later on in the broadcast, former Rep. Andy Levin (D-MI) and Democratic strategist Karen Finney attempted to blame the situation on the fact that firearms were easily accessible in the United States.
&#8220;My God, we&#8217;ve got to stop thinking we can solve our problems or we can get attention for ourselves or our point of view or whatever that person thought they were doing with firearms,&#8221; Levin said. &#8220;It&#8217;s an epidemic in this country. We used to worry so much about school shootings, all the time, all the time, now people — the president himself was, you know, the target of two assassination attempts. This is something we&#8217;ve got to take on as a policy matter in this country.&#8221;
&#8220;Look, I&#8217;m a gun guy. I wouldn&#8217;t necessarily place the blame on guns,&#8221; Shermichael Singleton added, saying that he did agree that too many people believed violence was the best way to get a point across. Singleton noted that far too many people were &#8220;unstable&#8221; and apparently unwilling to engage in debate or simply vote out the people with whom they disagreed.
Levin pushed back then, claiming that mental health in the United States was not dramatically worse than in other nations, once again arguing that access to firearms was the problem. &#8220;We have a problem of firearms being accessible – sub-machine guns, all kinds of guns, and it&#8217;s — we&#8217;re not going to solve the problem until we step up to the plate and take on this epidemic —&#8221;
Singleton interrupted, saying, &#8220;By the way, you can&#8217;t buy a sub-machine gun anymore, Congressman, that was outlawed decades ago.&#8221;

The Supreme Court on Thursday tossed a lawsuit by the Mexican government against United States gun manufacturers.
The unanimous court decision found that Mexico did not prove a link between the gun manufacturers and cartel violence in Mexico. Justice Elena Kagan wrote the 9-0 opinion in the case known as Smith &amp; Wesson Brands, Inc. v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
“Mexico alleges that the companies aided and abetted unlawful sales routing guns to Mexican drug cartels. The question presented is whether Mexico’s complaint plausibly pleads that conduct. We conclude it does not,” Kagan <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/23-1141_lkgn.pdf">wrote</a>.
Lawyers for the Mexican government argued that gun makers in the United States sold firearms to “rogue dealers” who in turn sold guns illegally to Mexican gun traffickers to eventually end up in the possession of cartels. The cartels have used those firearms to do damage to the Mexican government.
Mexico’s argument failed due to a lack of specificity and linkage between the gun manufacturers and the “rogue dealers.”
“To begin, the complaint sets for itself a high bar. It does not pinpoint, as most aiding-and-abetting claims do, any specific criminal transactions that the defendants (allegedly) assisted. Instead, it levels a more general accusation: that all the manufacturers assist some number of unidentified rogue dealers in violation of various legal bars. The systemic nature of that charge cannot help but heighten Mexico’s burden. To survive, it must be backed by plausible allegations of pervasive, systemic, and culpable assistance,” Kagan wrote.

“Mexico’s lead claim — that the manufacturers elect to sell guns to, among others, known rogue dealers — fails to clear that bar,” she continued. “For one thing, it is far from clear that such behavior, without more, could ever count as aiding and abetting under the Court’s precedents. And in any event, Mexico has not said enough to make its allegations on this point plausible: It does not confront that the manufacturers do not directly supply any dealers, and its complaint does not name alleged bad-apple dealers or provide grounds for thinking that anyone up the supply chain often acquires that information.”
In recent months, President Donald Trump has ramped up pressure on Mexico to crack down on drug cartels across the country. The cartels have long served as human traffickers fomenting illegal immigration and drug traffic into the United States.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/02/world/americas/mexico-cartel-fentanyl-trump-tariffs.html">shown</a> some willingness to work with Trump on the cartel issue after the United States placed significant tariffs on Mexican goods, arguing that Mexico’s handling of drug cartels and immigration constituted a severe national security risk to the United States.

A 37-year-old Muslim man from Michigan who planned to “even the score” and use guns for “God&#8217;s wrath” after threatening Jewish preschoolers pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Hassan Chokr, of Dearborn, Michigan, “aggressively targeted Jewish parents and their preschool children at a local synagogue in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. After unleashing a menacing antisemitic tirade against them, he lied and attempted to buy several firearms at a Dearborn gun store,” the Department of Justice <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-edmi/pr/hassan-chokr-pleads-guilty-illegally-possessing-firearms-after-antisemitic-tirade">stated</a>.
“In December 2022, Chokr, 37, drove through the parking lot of a Jewish synagogue as parents walked their preschoolers into the building, yelling profanities and attacking their support for Israel,” the DOJ noted. “After being asked to leave, Chokr drove to a gun store in Dearborn. While there, he possessed a Landor Arms, 12-gauge semi-automatic shotgun; a Del-ton, 5.56mm rifle; and a Glock, 9mm semi-automatic pistol. He held each firearm, and at times pointed it and pulled the trigger. After deciding to purchase the three firearms, Chokr lied about his eligibility to possess firearms by indicating that he had never been convicted of a felony offense when in fact, he had been convicted of a felony several years prior. While awaiting the results of the background check, Chokr indicated that he would ‘even the score’ and use the guns for ‘God’s wrath.’”
“Chokr’s attempt to purchase several deadly firearms in an apparent attempt to follow through on his menacing threats against parents and preschoolers as they walked into a place of worship represents every American’s worst nightmare,” United States Attorney Jerome F. Gorgon Jr. stated. “And we will not allow anyone to terrorize our Jewish neighbors. We are committed to protecting every American and their right to live and worship free of fear.”
Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Hills, the purported synagogue where the children were targeted, was the <a href="https://www.tbeonline.org/about-us/history/">first</a> Jewish congregation in the state of Michigan, established in Detroit in 1850. The site moved to Bloomfield Hills in 1973.

Chokr, whose case was investigated by the FBI, faces a maximum sentence of up to 15 years’ imprisonment.

The man accused of using a makeshift flamethrower and molotov cocktails to attack a demonstration in support of hostages in Gaza originally planned to use a gun, according to Boulder County officials.
Boulder County District Attorney Michael Dougherty <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/06/02/us-news/boulder-terror-attack-suspect-planned-mass-shooting-but-was-stopped-from-buying-gun-due-to-immigration-status/">said</a> in a press conference Monday afternoon that Mohamed Sabry Soliman attempted to purchase a gun to attack demonstrators, but was blocked by gun laws.
Soliman planned the attack for at least a year, according to authorities. His initial plan involved using a firearm. He took a concealed carry class to learn how to shoot. But when he attempted to buy a gun, he was stopped because his visa had expired, Dougherty said.
Documents filed in a state court say that Soliman “had to use Molotov cocktails after he was denied the purchase of a gun due to him not being a legal citizen,” according to <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/boulder-attack-suspect-us-illegally-homeland-security/story?id=122409898">ABC News</a>.
Soliman “researched on YouTube how to make Molotov Cocktails, purchased the ingredients to do so, and constructed them,” the documents say.
The suspect is an Egyptian national who is in the United States illegally, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Department spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/colorado-hits-egyptian-anti-israel-terror-suspect-with-charges-including-murder">said</a> Monday that Soliman is in the United States on an expired visa.

“The Colorado Terrorist attack suspect, Mohamed Soliman, is illegally in our country,” said McLaughlin. “He entered the country in August 2022 on a B2 visa that expired on February 2023. He filed for asylum in September 2022.”
Boulder County prosecutors have charged Soliman with 16 counts of first degree murder, as well as using incendiary devices to commit a felony and assault. Soliman faces over 600 years in prison if convicted on all charges, according to Dougherty.
Soliman allegedly attacked the group of demonstrators with a makeshift flamethrower and firebombs. A dozen people so far have reported injuries from the attack. None of the victims have died.
FBI Director Kash Patel called the incident a “targeted terror attack.” Federal prosecutors have charged Soliman with a hate crime.
Soliman told investigators that “he wanted to kill all Zionist people and wished they were all dead.” The suspect said that “this had nothing to do with the Jewish community and was specific in the Zionist group supporting the killings of people on his land,” according to court documents.

In movies like Enemy of the State, Americans are shown a dystopian world where government surveillance turns ordinary citizens into targets, with shadowy agencies tracking their every move without oversight or accountability. Sadly, this Hollywood nightmare is now reality.
During the Biden administration, federal agencies like the FBI were secretly monitoring law-abiding gun owners through the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) — tracking their lawful firearm purchases without a warrant and without ever informing those being monitored. Even Congress was kept in the dark. What once seemed like fiction is now a troubling truth, as the federal government turns its surveillance powers inward against its own people, eroding the freedoms it was meant to protect.
For years, the FBI has been surveilling the gun purchases of thousands of law-abiding citizens using the NICS system. This daily NICS Monitoring program operates without the requirement of a warrant or probable cause, and entirely outside the purview of any court. It enables federal agents to select a target for surveillance and receive a notification every time the victim purchases a firearm. Surveilled Americans have no way of ever knowing they are being tracked.
None of this information is new. Gun Owners of America has reported on the FBI’s NICS Monitoring abuses <a href="https://www.ammoland.com/2024/12/foia-shows-the-extent-of-atf-monitoring-americans-through-fbis-nics-system/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">at length</a>, and the FBI’s warrantless surveillance program has been the subject of a years-long Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) lawsuit pitting GOA against a <a href="https://www.gunowners.org/atf-attempts-to-silence-gun-owners-of-america/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">belligerent</a> and uncooperative Department of Justice.
<h3>Ongoing NICS Monitoring Abuses</h3>
Naturally, being free to operate entirely without legal standards or judicial oversight, federal agents have rampantly abused NICS Monitoring, surveilling individuals engaged in all manner of innocuous activities. Without any accountability, agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) requested NICS Monitoring of individuals who purchased firearms in response to social unrest, those whose firearm expenditures appeared disproportionate to their income, and even persons who bought and sold firearms as a hobby.
During the Biden administration, federal agents even directed their surveillance toward ordinary Californians — like a modern-day Panopticon, where prison inmates can be secretly watched without knowing when. In a recent <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/political/fbi-weaponizes-background-checks-enforce-california-gun-ban" target="_blank" rel="noopener">FOIA production</a>, GOA discovered that the FBI had been assisting in the enforcement of anti-gun states’ “assault weapons” bans. The FBI actually used NICS Monitoring on one individual for suspected violations of California’s unconstitutional gun regime — despite there being no evidence of any federal wrongdoing.
Thankfully, Pam Bondi’s DOJ recently <a href="https://x.com/GunOwners/status/1915855957927616648" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ordered the FBI</a> to end the Biden-era practice of using NICS monitoring to help enforce state gun laws. But who knows how long this practice has been occurring? Because with such a low bar for monitoring, perhaps you have also been NICS Monitored, maybe for nothing more than a Facebook comment or a bumper sticker, or attendance at a political rally. Of course, you would never know either way.
<h3>FBI Weaponization Against January 6 Protesters</h3>
Now, GOA has discovered that the FBI’s surveillance program goes further than previously thought. Recently obtained FOIA documents reveal the NICS Monitoring of a person suspected of being present at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
In fact, in one June 6, 2023 NICS Monitoring submission, an unnamed FBI agent requested NICS Monitoring of an individual’s lawful gun purchases for a period of six months, for several “violations or potential violations” that are common J6 charges:

<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">18 U.S.C. § 231(a)(3) &#8211; Civil Disorder; </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">18 U.S.C. § 1752(a)(1) and (2) &#8211; Restricted Building or Grounds; </li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1">40 U.S.C. § 5104(e)(2)(E) &#8211; Impeding Passage through the Capitol Grounds or Buildings.</li>
</ul>
Of course, this should come as no surprise. After all, the Biden-era FBI was no stranger to victimizing thousands of Trump supporters associated with January 6. On January 6 itself, the U.S. Capitol was crawling with <a href="https://www.zerohedge.com/political/legal-scholar-raises-concerns-over-doj-hiding-fbi-informants-jan-6">FBI informants</a>, seemingly directed to frame those attending the President’s “Save America” rally.
In the days that followed, the FBI <a href="https://thehill.com/hilltv/rising/540721-intercept-reporter-fbis-rapid-collection-of-phone-records-after-capitol-riot/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">aggressively collected</a> cell phone data of those who had been present in Washington, DC, often without a warrant. The FBI even improperly <a href="https://apnews.com/article/justice-department-fbi-surveillance-75c466a64e838ab12eaef96f6335f3cd" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accessed</a> information collected under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to target purely domestic persons and activities. And in the twilight hours of the Biden regime, the Department of Justice <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/justice-department/fbi-searches-alleged-jan-6-rioters-home-ahead-donald-trumps-return-pre-rcna137787" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continued to raid</a> suspected January 6ers’ homes, with FBI operations extending well into December of 2024.
But now, the United States has a new Attorney General. And when Pam Bondi took her oath of office, she <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/bondi-sworn-attorney-general-mission-end-weaponization-justice-department" target="_blank" rel="noopener">promised</a> to end the rampant “weaponization” of the FBI and to close Biden’s chapter of hyper-partisanship and two-tiered justice for good.
That promise will ring hollow if NICS Monitoring is not dismantled. So long as the mechanism remains in place to surveil gun owners’ lawful purchases — especially with no judicial approval or oversight — there is little stopping a future administration from resuming the abuses of Biden’s FBI.
What once seemed like the stuff of Hollywood thrillers has become a sobering fact of American life. The secret surveillance of lawful gun owners through NICS Monitoring is not just a bureaucratic overreach — it’s a direct assault on the freedoms that define our nation.
To restore trust in our institutions, Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel must act swiftly to end warrantless spying on law-abiding gun owners. Americans should not have to live in fear that exercising their rights will land them on a secret government watchlist. We are not characters in a movie — we are citizens of a free republic, and it’s time our government remembered that.

Authorities identified the man accused of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shooting-reported-at-florida-state-university-at-least-4-people-wounded?topStoryPosition=undefined&amp;author=Zach+Jewell&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=1&amp;rowHeadline=Top+Stories&amp;rowType=Top+Stories&amp;title=At+Least+2+Dead%2C+Multiple+Wounded+In+Shooting+At+Florida+State" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opening fire</a> at Florida State University on Thursday as the son of a Leon County, Florida, Sheriff&#8217;s Department deputy.
At least two people were killed and six more were wounded in the shooting that took place just before noon ET. Leon County Sheriff Walter A. McNeil identified the shooter, whom The Daily Wire will not name per company policy, as a 20-year-old male student at FSU, who is the son of a sheriff&#8217;s deputy who has been with the Leon County Sheriff&#8217;s Department for over 18 years.
&#8220;Her service to this community has been exceptional,&#8221; Sheriff McNeil said of the deputy. &#8220;Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons, and that was one of the weapons that was found at the scene.&#8221;
The weapon found at the scene was not the firearm that the deputy was currently using on the force, but rather one that she had been issued previously by her department.
&#8220;A lot of times — many agencies, mine included — when we transition to a new handgun, the officers are allowed to purchase the handgun they used prior. &#8230; I believe that&#8217;s the case here,&#8221; Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence E. Revell said at a press conference Thursday afternoon.
The 20-year-old suspect was also a &#8220;longstanding member of the Leon County Sheriff&#8217;s Office Youth Advisory Council,&#8221; McNeil added. &#8220;So he has been steeped in the Leon County Sheriff&#8217;s Office family, engaged in a number of training programs that we have, so it&#8217;s not a surprise to us that he had access to weapons.&#8221;
The shooter was neutralized &#8220;immediately&#8221; by Florida State University Police, and he has been transported to a local hospital. Neither of the victims who were killed were Florida State students, and their identities have not yet been released, Interim FSU Police Chief Justin Maloy said at the press conference.
FSU President Richard McCullough called the first responders &#8220;absolute heroes.&#8221;
&#8220;The call went out, and immediately they responded to the scene and immediately neutralized the suspect and prevented this from being a bigger tragedy,&#8221; McCullough said.
Florida State canceled classes and all athletic events on campus for the rest of the week.
President Donald Trump addressed the shooting from the Oval Office during a meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, adding that he has been “fully briefed as to where we are right now.”
“It’s a shame. It’s a horrible thing, horrible that things like this take place,” Trump added. “And we’ll have more to say about it later.”

David Hogg, freshly minted into leadership at the Democratic National Committee, is warning that he plans to push primaries against some members of his own party.
Hogg co-founded and is president of Leaders We Deserve, a group dedicated to electing young progressives, which is launching a push to primary House Democrats they view as &#8220;out-of-touch&#8221; and &#8220;ineffective.&#8221;
The $20 million effort will reportedly attempt to oust House Democrats in deep blue districts and elect younger leaders who will fight Trump more aggressively. The group will also spend money on races for state legislatures, Hogg <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/us/politics/david-hogg-dnc-leaders-we-deserve.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
Hogg, 25, was elected as vice chair of the DNC less than three months ago. The young progressive activist initially made a name for himself after he survived the deadly school shooting at Parkland High School back in 2018, often going on profane rants demanding gun control.
The move by a member of the party brass to oust current Democratic lawmakers is an unprecedented one and is sure to face pushback from other Democrats.
“This is going to anger a lot of people,” Hogg <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/us/politics/david-hogg-dnc-leaders-we-deserve.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> The New York Times, adding that he predicts a &#8220;smear campaign against me.&#8221;
“People say they want change in the Democratic Party, but really they want change so long as it doesn’t potentially endanger their position of power,” he told the paper. “That’s not actually wanting change. That’s selfishness.”
Hogg also reportedly refused to sign a “neutrality policy,” asking party leaders not to engage in any activity that would “call into question their impartiality and evenhandedness,” either in “their D.N.C. capacity and in their personal capacity.”
The Democratic Party has struggled to find its footing and a cohesive message that resonates with the public after the thrashing candidates up and down the ballot took in the November election.
Some of the internal strife involves the younger generation of progressives bucking older party leadership, urging policies further to the left and a more aggressive approach against the Trump administration.
“What we are not saying here is, ‘Oh, you’re old, you need to go,’” Hogg said of older elected Democrats. “What we’re saying is we need to make room for a new generation to step up and help make sure that we have the people that are most acutely impacted by a lot of the issues that we are legislating on — that are actually going to live to see the consequences of this.”
Hogg did not name any specific Democrats his group is looking to unseat yet.
