President Donald Trump secured &#8220;breakthrough trade deals&#8221; with Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Guatemala, setting up &#8220;more streamlined market access&#8221; for the United States and its four Western Hemisphere partners, the White House announced on Thursday.
The deals include both economic and national security commitments, which the White House promises will give American companies greater access to the Central and South American markets. Under the deals, the Trump administration is expected to lower tariffs on some food products, which could lower the cost of items such as coffee and bananas, according to a senior Trump administration official, Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/us/us-remove-tariffs-some-products-ecuador-argentina-guatemala-el-salvador-2025-11-13/">reported</a>. The finalized frameworks for the deals are expected to be completed within the next two weeks.
The White House announced the new trade agreements shortly after Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bessent-promises-major-food-import-moves-to-cut-grocery-prices-very-quickly">promised</a> that the administration was seeking to give Americans some relief at the grocery store. Bessent&#8217;s comments were a rare moment of the Trump administration acknowledging that Americans are feeling the sting of Trump&#8217;s tariffs, at least in some circumstances.
&#8220;These deals secure commitments on economic and national security issues to strengthen supply chains and trade partnerships in the region, deepening bilateral trade and investment cooperation to provide American exporters with unprecedented access to markets in Central and South America,&#8221; the White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/fact-sheets/2025/11/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-announces-historic-trade-deals-with-western-hemisphere-trading-partners/">said</a>. &#8220;The deals will help U.S. farmers, ranchers, fishermen, small businesses, and manufacturers to increase U.S. exports to and expand business opportunities with these trading partners.&#8221;
The deal with Argentina gives U.S. exporters &#8220;preferential market access&#8221; for &#8220;medicines, chemicals, machinery, information technology products, medical devices, motor vehicles, and a wide range of agricultural products.&#8221; Under the agreement, Argentina is expected to exempt beef from its 10% tariff on imports, allowing the U.S. cattle industry to ship beef to the South American country at a more affordable rate, a U.S. official told <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2025/11/13/white-house-agrees-to-lower-some-tariffs-on-south-american-countries-00651456?cid=apn">POLITICO</a>. President Donald Trump had also considered allowing Argentina to export more beef to the United States, but the agreement does not appear to allow that, after Trump&#8217;s idea faced backlash from Congress and the U.S. cattle industry.
&#8220;Argentina has opened its market to U.S. live cattle, committed to allow market access for U.S. poultry within one year, and agreed not to restrict market access for products that use certain cheese and meat terms,&#8221; the White House <a href="https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefings-statements/2025/11/joint-statement-on-framework-for-a-united-states-argentina-agreement-on-reciprocal-trade-and-investment/">said</a>.
The Trump administration stated that Ecuador would reduce or eliminate tariffs on tree nuts, fresh fruit, pulses, wheat, wine, and distilled spirits. El Salvador agreed to &#8220;break down non-tariff barriers for U.S. agricultural products in its market, including ensuring that U.S. agricultural exporters will not be restricted due to the mere use of certain cheese and meat terms.&#8221; Guatemala, meanwhile, made commitments on digital trade, including ending discrimination against U.S. products distributed digitally.

A federal judge on Sunday blocked the Trump administration’s plan to return 76 unaccompanied illegal immigrant children found at the U.S. southern border to Guatemala.
U.S. District Judge Sparkle Sooknanan sided with attorneys for the children, who argued that returning them to Guatemala would put them at risk. The Justice Department maintained that the children were being reunited with their parents and guardians.
“Here, Plaintiff children have demonstrated clear and irreparable harms if removed to Guatemala,” Sooknanan, a Biden appointee, <a href="https://www.nilc.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/LGML-v.-Noem-TRO.pdf">wrote</a>. “Several plaintiffs lack guardians who can provide safety and care. Many fear return and wish to continue pursuing their asylum claims before the immigration courts. Facing risks of persecution and torture. Further, Defendants have failed to comply with legal obligations to ensure safe repatriation to Guatemala.”
Sooknanan claimed that the Trump administration was discriminating against the children based on their nationality and had not given them due process. 
Justice Department lawyer Drew Ensign <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-judge-halts-surprising-illegal-alien-minor-repatriation-plan-after-advocacy-groups-sue" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a> that the parents or guardians of the children had requested the return of their children. The kids are being represented by the Young Center for Immigrant Children&#8217;s Rights. 
&#8220;These are not removals under the statute,” he said. “These are repatriations. All of these children have parents or guardians in Guatemala who have requested their return.&#8221;
The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/immigration-unaccompanied-children-trump-deportations-guatemala-3790909d69f19fd8cd8edffb6b3215c3">reported</a> that many of the children set to be returned to Guatemala had already boarded their planes and were awaiting takeoff when the judge’s order came through. 
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller ripped into the judge for the decision. 
“The Biden judge is effectively kidnapping these migrant children and refusing to let them return home to their parents in their home country,” he posted on X. 
Under President Joe Biden, the number of unaccompanied children encountered at the U.S. southern border surged. More than 500,000 children were found at the border under Biden, according to numbers <a href="https://www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases/bombshell-report-confirms-grassley-oversight-of-biden-harris-admins-failure-to-protect-migrant-children">released</a> by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA). Of those children, the Department of Homeland Security failed to properly track at least 233,000, while tens of thousands were released to unrelated sponsors or distant relatives.

Representative Delia Ramirez, from Illinois, was in the news recently for standing in front of a group of Hispanics in Mexico City and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-america-last-left-cuts-loose">declaring</a> that she is a proud Guatemalan before she’s an American. Indeed, she’s so proud of Guatemala that her family fled the country, settled here illegally, and have refused to return. They would rather break the law in this country than live in Guatemala. That’s how proud of Guatemala they are.
That’s the inherent contradiction anytime an immigrant claims to be so deeply proud of the homeland that they desperately don’t want to live in. But the greater problem, of course, is that Congresswoman Ramirez has announced that she is more loyal to a foreign country than to her own. Granted, her loyalty to Guatemala seems rather uninspiring and conditional. She’s loyal from a distance. But her loyalty to the United States is clearly even weaker. She puts it second place to the country that her family have spent decades trying to avoid going back to.
It should be uncontroversial to say that any elected representative who declares a greater loyalty to a foreign country than to this country should be removed from office at an absolute minimum.

In Ramirez’s case, it’s obvious that she, and her entire family, should be deported. If she loves Guatemala so much, she can live there. The fact that Delia Ramirez wasn’t on a boat back to Guatemala five minutes after she made those remarks is a disgrace. In fact, we didn’t even have to put her on a boat. She said all of that in Mexico City. All we had to do was lock the door and not let her back in. That’s what she deserves. This woman is a disloyal, backstabbing, ungrateful Judas who never should have been granted citizenship in the first place. There’s no time like the present to rectify that mistake. Especially after her most recent comments.
Yes, Ms. Ramirez is at it again. This time it was the NetRoots Nation conference in New Orleans. During a sit-down discussion on stage at the conference, Ramirez was asked a very simple question. It’s a question that everyone running for elected office should be asked. It’s a question that every immigrant should be asked before we even think about granting them citizenship. It is the question. The new “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/videos/what-is-a-woman?row=0&amp;elementPosition=4&amp;rowType=Square+Show+Carousel">What is a Woman?</a>” And the question is: “What is an American?” And just as the Left never figured out how to define the word “woman,” they have just as much trouble — if not more — stringing together an even vaguely coherent definition for the word “American.”

So Representative Ramirez says that being an American means that we can “dream and love,” and also that we recognize all the evils of colonialism and all the bad stuff America did in the past. That’s her answer.
Now, there are a lot of problems here.
First of all, Ramirez, what is this “we” stuff? You’re an anchor baby. You became an American thanks to a paperwork loophole. You have no ancestral ties to this country. You don’t love it. You don’t respect it. You have made no effort to assimilate into our culture. In fact you hate our culture and our people. Your family showed up here illegally. Their very first act as residents (illegal residents) of this country was to break our laws and violate our sovereignty.
You and your family are squatters. Using the word “we” is like if a junkie broke into your house while you were on vacation, refused to leave, and then started referring to it as “our home.” Now imagine if that was a home that your grandfather had built with his own hands. A home that you had lived in since birth. A home built and maintained by your family’s sweat and blood and sacrifice. And now some random vagrant, who broke in through a downstairs window five seconds ago, has announced that it’s just as much his home as yours. You wouldn’t take very kindly to that. And we don’t take very kindly to it either. There is no “we.” This is not your home.
We know it isn’t because if it was your home, you’d be able to speak at length, and with real depth and feeling, when someone asks you what this home means to you. But instead when you were asked what it means to be an American, you started with third-rate, Hallmark pablum about how being an American means that you can “dream and love.” In fact it’s worse than Hallmark. I wouldn’t accept that answer if it was written on a July 4th greeting card. I wouldn’t accept it on a second grader’s book report. You’re a grown adult and an elected representative and the best you can do — in fact the only positive thing you can say about America — is that Americans can “dream and love.”
Does that mean that people in other countries can’t dream and love? Is dreaming and loving unique to Americans? Do your fellow Guatemalans never experience love, or have dreams, until they sneak across the border into our country? I’m pretty certain you wouldn’t make that claim. Which means your definition of an American is generic and meaningless. “Being an American means that you can dream and love and laugh and look at pretty colors and have tickle fights.” If my five year old daughter said something like that I’d be embarrassed. You’re an adult. You should be deported just for saying that, and for about a dozen other reasons.
But somehow it gets worse. We learn that Americans are people who dream and love, whatever that means, and also — and this is the only other qualification you provide — they are people who feel the requisite amount of scorn and resentment for the alleged evils committed by Americans in the past. Never mind that the United States only had slavery for about 90 years while many countries in the world had it for millennia. Never mind that white people — Americans and Europeans — were among the last to adopt slavery and the first to abolish it. Never mind that if we’re supposed to feel bad about slavery, then literally every other nation, race, and ethnicity on Earth should feel even worse. There were countries in Africa practicing legal slavery as recently as the 1970s. Never mind all that. Also never mind the fact that the “colonialism” you decry is the reason why you currently live in a civilized society where you don’t have to worry about being kidnapped by a raiding part in the middle of the night and having your beating heart cut out of your chest to appease the sun god. If not for “colonialism” in the western hemisphere, there would still be slavery here. The entire hemisphere would still be locked in perpetual wars of conquest. And you, as a woman, would be property to be bought, traded, stolen, used, and discarded. Because that’s how it worked among the “indigenous tribes” whose conquest and subjugation you lament, because you&#8217;re a stupid, ungrateful, historically illiterate, spoiled little child.
But as I said, never mind all of that. Even if we pretend that America has all of these unique and terrible sins — which it doesn’t — still, couldn’t anyone, anywhere in the world, recognize those sins? Couldn&#8217;t anyone, anywhere in the world, dream and love, and also hate America as you do? If that’s the qualification to be an American, then by your definition, anyone, anywhere, at any time, at any given moment, can be an American. Considering there are a lot of people in the world who hate America — mostly out of envy, like you — and considering that most of those people are presumably capable of dreaming and maybe even loving, that would mean that there are billions of Americans currently living in the world today. And most of these “Americans&#8221; have never even been to this country. The Middle East is full of Americans. The entire country of China is American. North Koreans are all Americans. Everyone is American. Which means, of course, that no one is American. It means that being an American actually means nothing.

That’s your real answer, isn’t it, Ramirez? You just don’t want to say it out loud. Being an American means nothing to you. America means nothing. America is nothing. It’s not a country. It’s not a place. It’s not even an idea. It’s nothing. It is, at most, a vague feeling. A fleeting sense of something or other. There is nothing solid that defines it. Now if I were to ask you what it means to be Guatemalan, you would have a lot more to say, wouldn’t you? You would talk about the culture, the people, the pride you feel for Guatemala, the fidelity you have to it. Guatemala is a distinct country to you. In fact every country on the globe that isn’t predominately populated by white people is a distinct country. It’s only white western nations — America principle among them — that is not allowed to have an actual national identity. That’s what you really think. You just won’t say it. Though you’ll come very close.
So let me answer the question, since you can’t, or won’t. America is not a feeling of love, it’s not a dream, and it’s certainly not a set of Marxist claims about the evils of white colonialism or whatever. America is a country. It is a country with borders, and laws, and a language. It is a people. It is a culture, a history, and a tradition. It is also — in addition to those things, not on its own but in addition — a set of values. Values rooted in Christian thought. This land was conquered and this country was established by Christian men who did it for the glory of God and for the sake of spreading the Gospel from sea to shining sea. That’s America. It is a nation. It is a home. My home, not yours. It’s the place where I was born and will die. It’s where my children will have children, and where their children will have children, and all of them will love this country just as I do, and celebrate its history, and fight to preserve its culture and its traditions. Because I’m an American, and I put no country before this one.
You cannot say the same. Because you are not an American. You can’t even convincingly pretend to be one.
So what is an American? Well, to begin with, certainly not you.

A massive controversy has now broken out over a Democratic lawmaker in the House of Representatives who announced at a Pan-American Congress taking place in Mexico City that America was terrible.
Illinois Democratic Rep. Delia Ramirez — who was born in the United States, although her parents were illegal immigrants and her husband is also an illegal immigrant who is a DACA recipient — declared in Spanish that she was a proud Guatemalan before she was an American. She followed by suggesting that the United States prioritizes imperialism, militarization, conquest, and control in its attempt at domination.
The White House assistant press secretary, Liz Huston, said, “These Democrats’ comments are despicable and underscore their commitment to putting America last.”
That is exactly right.
Nobody is suggesting that if you are an immigrant to this country and your parents are Italian, for example, that you can&#8217;t have pride in your Italian heritage. But to say that you&#8217;re prouder to be Italian than American while living in America is a wild statement that goes to a deeper problem inside the Democratic Party, which suggests that they are not America First, but, in fact, America Last.
Why would you be prouder to be a Guatemalan than an American? Just on a raw level, the murder rate in Guatemala is 16.1 per 100,000 compared to the United States, where it&#8217;s 6.8 per 100,000. The GDP per capita in Guatemala is $6,100 per capita. Since 2019, some two million people have left the Northern Triangle; many of those are from Guatemala.

This conference took place in Mexico City. Mexico is, of course, a disastrous hotbed of crime and corruption. It is partially run by the drug cartels. According to the 2023 Transparency International Corruption Perceptions Index, Mexico ranks 126th in the world in terms of fighting corruption.
Mexico has a $14,000 GDP per capita, and the murder rate is 19.3 per 100,000, down from 24 per 100,000 in 2023. This entire conference is taking place in a country vastly inferior to the United States.
It wasn&#8217;t just Delia Ramirez; other people who showed up included Rep. Ilhan Omar, who came from Somalia and has suggested on “Democracy Now!” that America is one of the worst countries in the world, saying, “To be coming out of our country, I mean, I grew up in, in, in a dictatorship, and I don&#8217;t even remember ever witnessing anything like that. To have a democracy, a beacon of hope for the world, to now be turned into one of the worst countries where the military are in our streets, without any regard for people&#8217;s constitutional rights, while our president is spending millions of dollars, [propping] himself up, like a failed dictator with a military parade &#8230;”
Somalia, of course, has a GDP per capita of $636. It&#8217;s one of the worst places on planet Earth. And she says America is one of the worst places on planet Earth.
Don&#8217;t worry, it is not just the children of immigrants like Delia Ramirez or actual immigrants like Ilhan Omar who say nefarious stuff like this; it is also homegrown Americans like Ayanna Pressley, who believes that America is a terrible place. She also spoke at this Pan-American conference. You might remember not all that long ago when she voted against the formation of a tough-on-China committee, because she said that that would further anti-Asian hate in the United States.
Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the Democratic congresswoman from Michigan and a terrorist sympathizer who literally just last year refused to condemn chants of “Death to America,” showed up, too.
Pennsylvania Democrat Rep. Summer Lee, who has suggested in the past that requiring only American citizens to be allowed to vote is actually xenophobic, was there.
All these wonderful people showed up to a conference outside the United States to rip America and talk about how terrible America was.
In a TV interview before the event. David Adler, the general coordinator for the Progressive International organization that was in charge of this event and one of the summit&#8217;s main coordinators, said the intention of the summit was to “confront authoritarian and fascist threats and shift authority from Washington, D.C. to developing countries.”
This is the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, and they are going to be the next governing wave of the Democratic Party. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez hides it a little bit better, but she is a fellow traveler with this caucus. Zohran Mamdani is much louder. He is not just a fellow traveler. He is one of the main spears at the tip of this caucus. The new mayoral candidate in Minnesota for the Democrats is a person who agrees with this sort of stuff. Bernie Sanders, of course, agrees with this take on America, this sort of Howard Zinn-hatred for the United States.
You can say this is TDS, that this is specifically about Donald Trump, but it clearly is not. It goes deeper than that. It goes to an oppressor/oppressed narrative whereby America is the great oppressor, America’s allies are the great oppressors, and everybody in the world who is unsuccessful, every failed country around the world, is simply oppressed by the First World, and that&#8217;s why they are in such dire circumstances right now.
This is a recipe for more chaos around the world. It is a matrix that you use for the world in which no one has personal responsibility, particularly if they fail. That matrix on both a personal level and a national level is horribly dark. It wrecks human beings; it wrecks nations, and it wrecks the planet overall.
Yet this is the growing movement inside the Democratic Party that shirks responsibility and presents the United States as the great aggressor in the world, despite the fact that the world is inestimably more wealthy, better off, healthier, living longer, and more democratic because of the presence of the United States on planet Earth.
A bizarre hatred for the United States is a driving force behind everything from the open borders immigration platform of the Democratic Party to their redistributionist view of free market economics, to their belief that the world is better off if the United States basically lays down its arms and allows all of its enemies to dominate the world situation.
If this is where the Democratic Party wants to go, I don’t think Americans will follow.

A sheriff is accusing the federal government of victimizing Americans after an <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegal immigrant</a> was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in Florida.
Marvin Dionel Perez Lopez was accused by police earlier this month of forcing the girl into his van and sexually assaulting her in Lake Worth, Florida. He faces charges of kidnapping, sexually assaulting a minor, sexual assault of a victim under 12 years old, and resisting an officer without violence, <a href="https://cbs12.com/news/local/lake-worth-man-arrested-for-kidnapping-sexually-assaulting-minor-marvin-dionel-perez-lopez-white-van-k-9-unit-saturday-captive-florida-may-6-2024" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to CBS 12.
According to Palm Beach Police, Lopez, a Guatemalan national, illegally crossed into the United States in January where he was apprehended by Border Patrol. He was then released into the country with a court date four years into the future in 2027.
&#8220;Here&#8217;s a Guatemalan, who came into the country illegally, was stopped by [Border Patrol], released, and made his way to South Florida. And now he commits a crime where he held an 11-year-old girl against her will and sexually assaulted her,” Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said.
“We grabbed him. He&#8217;s confessed to the crime. So he&#8217;s gonna get tried for a capital crime before he even remotely thinks he&#8217;s gonna get deported. He&#8217;s gonna do the time here first,&#8221; Bradshaw added. “The federal government is victimizing the people who live in this country by letting these people in here.”
The police report on the arrest said that the girl’s mother started banging on the van door causing Lopez to run away, CBS 12 reported. She later went to Lopez&#8217;s home and called the police after he reportedly asked for forgiveness. When police arrived to question him, they said he escaped out a window and ran into an alleyway before he was eventually arrested.

As reports of violent crimes committed by illegal immigrants have continued to make headlines, Republicans have demanded that President Joe Biden close down the border.

An illegal immigrant from Guatemala accused of child molestation was released from prison last month by authorities in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/rhode-island" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rhode Island</a> before federal immigration officials could take him into custody.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ero-boston-apprehends-guatemalan-citizen-arrested-locally-first-degree-child" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on Friday that they had arrested a 22-year-old illegal immigrant wanted on domestic assault and first-degree child molestation on April 10. The arrest came hours after the Sixth District Court of Rhode Island had ordered him released onto the streets of Providence before ICE could take him into custody.
Providence is a sanctuary city and ignored the detainer that had been placed on the illegal immigrant by ICE.
“This unlawfully present individual was arrested locally on first degree child molestation charges and was released back into the community despite an immigration detainer,” said ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office Director Todd Lyons. “We believe it is in the interest of the community that jurisdictions honor our immigration detainers so that ICE can take direct custody of individuals like this who pose a threat to residents.”
“ERO Boston hopes to cooperate with our local partners in Rhode Island to help make safer neighborhoods for everyone in the state and throughout New England,” Lyons added.
According to ICE, the illegal immigrant, who was not named, illegally entered the United States around Nogales, Arizona, where he was apprehended by Border Patrol in November 2018. He would have been around 16-years-old at the time and he was released into the country and given a court date.
Four years later, the Providence Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest on sexual assault and child molestation charges on November 21, 2022. He was not arrested until February 28, 2024 when police nabbed him on domestic assault charges in addition to the previous charges.

After the arrest, ICE placed an immigration detainer on him, but he was released on April 10 by a Rhode Island court.
“Later that day, ERO Boston deportation officers in Rhode Island arrested him without incident in Providence. He will be held in ICE custody pending a future hearing before a Department of Justice immigration judge,” ICE said.
In recent weeks, ICE has been drawing attention to the release of illegal immigrants charged with serious crimes in New England, The Daily Caller <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/05/03/blue-state-releases-child-molester-ice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Last month, a 26-year-old Honduran <a href="https://dailycaller.com/2024/04/19/illegal-alien-sexual-assault-minor-ice/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> first-degree sexual assault of a minor was released by Connecticut authorities who ignored an immigration detainer placed on him by ICE.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of 26 illegal immigrant sexual predators during a three-day operation in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/los-angeles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Los Angeles</a> last week. 
The operation, carried out by ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations, <a href="https://www.ice.gov/news/releases/ero-los-angeles-arrests-26-convicted-sexual-predators-local-2-day-operation#:~:text=%22The%20outcome%20of%20this%20operation,Los%20Angeles%20FOD%20Thomas%20Giles." target="_blank" rel="noopener">was conducted</a> from December 18-20. The crimes committed by the illegal immigrants included crimes against children by individuals from Mexico, El Salvador, and Guatemala. 
&#8220;The outcome of this operation exemplifies the professionalism, dedication and commitment of ERO Los Angeles officers to public safety,&#8221; said ERO Los Angeles FOD Thomas Giles. “Removing these individuals and the threats they represent from our communities is our mission, and we will continue to safely and effectively enforce the immigration laws of our nation.&#8221;
The arrests take place as illegal crossings at the border under President Joe Biden <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-serious-challenge-illegal-border-crossings-surge-in-november-to-record-high" target="_blank" rel="noopener">continue to set records</a>, including nearly 250,000 crossings in November. CBP numbers <a href="https://www.cbp.gov/newsroom/national-media-release/cbp-releases-november-2023-monthly-update">released last week</a> show that they recorded 242,418 encounters last month, the highest November <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/12/22/news/242000-migrants-tried-to-cross-into-us-over-southern-border-in-november/">ever</a> and the third highest monthly total overall.
ICE highlighted three individuals taken into custody during the operation, including a 19-year-old from El Salvador convicted of felony sexual forcible oral copulation of a minor over 14 years old and battery by restraint
A 40-year-old from Mexico who was convicted for a felony lewd acts with a child and continuous sexual abuse was also picked up during the operation. A 35-year-old from Guatemala, convicted of felony child molestation in an inhabited dwelling, was also arrested by ICE for removal.

ICE noted that in fiscal year 2022, it had arrested 46,396 foreign nationals with criminal history, including  individuals with 8,164 sex and sexual assault offenses. The other crimes included 21,531 assault offenses, 5,554 weapons offenses, 1,501 homicide-related offenses, and 1,114 kidnapping offenses.
Last month, 37-year-old Saulo Cardona Ferreira, an illegal immigrant from Brazil convicted of raping a child, was<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-raped-a-five-year-old-in-brazil-ice-caught-him-in-marthas-vineyard" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> arrested</a> by ICE in Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts.
“This undocumented Brazilian national represented a significant threat to the inhabitants of Martha’s Vineyard. He sexually assaulted a five-year-old child in his homeland and then ran from authorities when held accountable for his actions,” ICE said in a statement. 
Illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border have remained high in December, with reporters <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nbc-reporter-stunned-by-number-of-illegal-border-crossings-crowds-have-never-been-this-large-during-my-reporting">being stunned</a> at the number of people entering into the U.S. through Mexico.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/department-of-justice" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Department of Justice</a> issued indictments Friday against dozens of alleged drug traffickers with ties to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mexico" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mexico</a>’s Sinaloa Cartel, including the three sons of former Sinaloa head Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.
The indictments charge 28 people with crimes ranging from drug trafficking to machine gun possession to money laundering. None of the defendants are located in the United States; 23 are based in Mexico, four are based in China, and one is based in Guatemala.
“Today, the Justice Department is announcing significant enforcement actions against the largest, most violent, and most prolific fentanyl trafficking operation in the world — run by the Sinaloa Cartel, and fueled by Chinese precursor chemical and pharmaceutical companies,” said Attorney General Merrick Garland in a <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/us-attorney-announces-charges-against-leadership-sinaloa-cartel-and-25-other-defendants" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. “Families and communities across our country are being devastated by the fentanyl epidemic. Today’s actions demonstrate the comprehensive approach the Justice Department is taking to disrupt fentanyl trafficking and save American lives.”
The Guzman sons are high-up leaders in the Sinaloa organization, arguably the most powerful drug cartel in Mexico. One of the men, Ovidio Guzmán, also known as “el raton,” was <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/06/americas/el-chapo-son-arrest-mexico-prison-intl/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrested</a> by Mexican authorities in January during an assault on a Sinaloa stronghold. Twenty-nine people died in the operation.
The Department of Treasury announced sanctions targeting fentanyl trafficking as well on Friday. The department slapped sanctions on two Chinese entities and five people based in China and Guatemala with sanctions in a crackdown on fentanyl precursor manufacturing and selling.
“Illicit fentanyl is responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of Americans each year,” Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said in a <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy1413#:~:text=WASHINGTON%20%E2%80%93%20Today%2C%20the%20U.S.%20Department,the%20production%20of%20illicit%20fentanyl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>. “Treasury, as part of the whole-of-government effort to respond to this crisis, will continue to vigorously apply our tools to prevent the transfer of precursor chemicals and machinery necessary to produce this drug.”
In fiscal year 2022, Customs and Border Protection <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/fentanyl-gun-smuggling-us-mexico-border-deal-rcna75782" target="_blank" rel="noopener">confiscated</a> over 50,000 pounds of fentanyl from attempted drug traffickers and others. Drug smuggling over the border is <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/fentanyl-seizures-rise-u-s-mexico-border-heres-why/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spiking</a> amid an unprecedented wave of illegal immigration that has continued to escalate over the past two years.
Most of the fentanyl made in Mexico is manufactured from precursor chemicals shipped in from China. Chinese drug makers sell the precursors to cartels and drug labs in Mexico. The chemicals are then made into fentanyl and typically crafted into pills that resemble other, legal drugs, such as OxyContin.
The Biden administration&#8217;s crackdown on the drug trade over the U.S. southern border comes as Republicans have been calling for stiffer resistance to cartels operating south of the U.S. border. Some lawmakers have suggested the cartels be declared terrorist organizations and said they warrant a response from the U.S. military.

Speaking on Fox Business Thursday, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) bashed Vice President Kamala Harris’ trip to Guatemala earlier this month, remarking that he couldn’t recall a “more disastrous series of meetings” for an American vice-president or vice-president. He added that when Harris warned the Guatemalan people not to attempt to come to the United States, they wouldn’t listen to her, as she had spent her presidential campaign saying that the United States would welcome immigrants.
Rubio stated, “I do not remember, certainly not in my years of watching American politics, a more disastrous series of meetings and a visit, a foreign visit, than Kamala Harris’ to Guatemala. I can’t remember a more disastrous episode for a vice-president or for a president, for that matter.”
“But I think it’s unfortunate; they campaigned for months on they’re going to be totally different from Trump, and no matter what she says and they say now the perception is out there in much of Central America that the United States under Joe Biden is very lax,” he added. “And that’s an incentive for people to take this journey. On Harris’ trip to Guatemala, where she <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-57387350">appeared at a news conference</a> with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammatte, she warned Guatemalans thinking of immigrating to the United States,  &#8220;Do not come. Do not come. The United States will continue to enforce our laws and secure our borders.&#8221; She added: &#8220;If you come to our border, you will be turned back.&#8221;
In 2015, while serving as California&#8217;s Attorney General, Harris told KCBS-TV, &#8220;An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal. … I&#8217;m a career prosecutor. I&#8217;ve personally prosecuted everything from low-level offenses to homicides. Unfortunately, I know what crime looks like. I know what a criminal looks like who&#8217;s committing a crime. An undocumented immigrant is not a criminal,” as <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/what-kamala-harris-has-said-about-immigration-before-leading-white-house-border-response-1578550">Newsweek</a> reported. Newsweek added, “During the 2019 Democratic primary debate, Harris was asked if an immigrant should be deported if their only offense is being undocumented, to which she responded by saying, &#8216;No, they should not be deported.’”
Harris wrote in her 2019 book, “The Truths We Hold,&#8221; &#8220;A wall on the border with Mexico was a total waste of taxpayer money. I am a strong believer in border security—but experts agree that a wall will not secure our border.&#8221;
She also wrote in the book, “But there was a bigger reason to oppose the border wall. A useless wall on the southern border would be nothing more than a symbol, a monument standing in opposition to not just everything I value, but to the fundamental values upon which this country was built. After receiving criticism for not traveling to the southern U.S.-Mexico border in order to address the surge of migration, Vice President Kamala Harris said Wednesday that she plans to go to Guatemala and Mexico to trace the &#8220;root causes&#8221; of the immigration crisis sometime soon.
She still has no plans, however, to travel to the United States-Mexico border.

At the end of last month, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/kamala-harris-has-no-immediate-plans-to-visit-border-will-focus-on-diplomacy-amid-migrant-crisis">The Daily Wire</a> reported that Harris had no plans to visit the United States-Mexico border after President Joe Biden gave her the job of handling what became known as the &#8220;child migrant crisis.&#8221; Harris instead planned to use &#8220;diplomacy&#8221; to handle the issue.

“Vice President Kamala Harris won’t be on the ground at the Southwest border anytime soon as she leads efforts to address a rise in migrants trying to enter the country,” The Associated Press reported. “Harris has no plans to visit the U.S.-Mexico border region ‘in the near future,’ spokeswoman Symone Sanders said Friday.”
“The vice president is not doing the border,” Sanders said.
Instead, Sanders added, Harris will receive briefings from Mexican and Central American officials, though, as of last Friday, she had not met with anyone about the issue.
“You can expect she will be speaking with leaders from the region in the near future,” Sanders said.</blockquote>
Earlier this month, Harris notably went to California without visiting the border. Instead, the vice president decided to join Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom at a water treatment facility where she gave a short speech on &#8220;water equity.&#8221;

Some California families report they are being asked to house as many as 26 migrant children at a time.</blockquote>
Harris again clarified on Wednesday that she will be in charge of looking into the root issues of migration, while Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas will lead efforts at the United States border with Mexico. She said that it is important to not only address the &#8220;symptoms&#8221; of the problem, but also the causes.
&#8220;It will not be obvious overnight,&#8221; Harris said. &#8220;The work we have to do is going to require a commitment that is continuous that we institutionalize with our partners, and that is the work that I am prepared to do which is to begin that process of meaningful work knowing that we’re going to have to have a long term strategy and it will take some time to see the benefits of that work.&#8221;
According to <a href="https://www.npr.org/2021/04/08/985296354/almost-19-000-migrant-children-stopped-at-u-s-border-in-march-most-ever-in-a-mon">NPR</a> reporting, the number of migrants met at the U.S.-Mexico border last month was the highest in at least 15 years as U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents took in almost 172,000 people.

On Monday, Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei declared a &#8220;state of prevention&#8221; at the Guatemala-Honduras border as new reports emerged about a potential migrant caravan getting ready to come to the country from Honduras.
<a href="https://apnews.com/article/honduras-health-coronavirus-pandemic-guatemala-city-guatemala-933c9840662f61d5ff3ad3bb532a8568">The Associated Press</a> reports,
<blockquote>The emergency decree would restrict open-air gatherings and demonstrations without permits, and will be in effect for two weeks in the five Guatemalan provinces along the border with Honduras.
The government justified the restrictions in a statement, saying “groups of people could put at risk the life, liberty, security, health, access to justice, peace and development” of Guatemalans.</blockquote>
In January, Guatemala reportedly took a similar step and put forth a decree in order to impede a different caravan, stressing that the caravan posed a risk to public health in Guatemala during a pandemic.
AP reports that in January, Guatemalan law enforcement and military personnel used tear gas, batons and shields in order to prohibit a mass of around 2,000 Honduran migrants from continuing at a roadblock.
&#8220;Several caravans of mainly Honduran migrants have tried to cross Guatemala and Mexico to reach the U.S. border, though none has succeeded since 2019,&#8221; according to the outlet.
According to <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2021/03/15/migrant-apprehensions-at-u-s-mexico-border-are-surging-again/">data</a> from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection published by the Pew Research Center, &#8220;U.S. Border Patrol apprehended nearly 100,000 migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border in February, the tenth consecutive month of increased apprehensions and a return to levels last seen in mid-2019.&#8221;
Pew Research Center reports, &#8220;Mexican migrants are accounting for a greater share of apprehensions than in the recent past, while Central Americans represent a smaller proportion. Around four-in-ten (42%) of those apprehended at the southwestern border in February were people of Mexican origin, up from 13% in May 2019, the most recent peak month for monthly apprehensions. People from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras accounted for 46% of apprehensions in February, down from 78% in May 2019.&#8221;
Attention has been focused on the conditions of child migrant facilities at the United States&#8217; southern border with Mexico and the high numbers of unaccompanied minors coming to the U.S. The numbers are expected to continue to rise, as well.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/child-migrant-surge-expected-to-last-at-least-another-seven-months-increase-to-25k-children-per-month">The Daily Wire</a> reports that on Monday,
<blockquote>&#8230;Axios reported Customs and Border Protection, which is currently handling the border crisis, believes the numbers are only going to increase, and the overcrowding situation at the border is only going to get worse.
“The Biden administration projects the number of unaccompanied children crossing the border could spiral from more than 16,000 this month to as many as 26,000 in September,” the outlet noted, based on documents leaked to Axios reporters. “The Customs and Border Protection range for September is 22,000 to 26,000. Under any scenario, projections include a peak month that would double the record that stood until this month.”
“To give a sense of how out of hand the crossings are getting,” Axios continued, “the administration projected just a month ago the figure for May would be 13,000. The new estimate is 22,000 to 25,000.”</blockquote>
For migrants, the journey to the United States contains a high risk of danger and potential death, especially for young children who might be traveling alone. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/9-year-old-mexican-girl-drowns-trying-to-cross-border-into-u-s">The Daily Wire reported last week</a> that a 9-year-old girl drowned while trying to get to the U.S. by way of the Rio Grande River.
