Wouldn&#8217;t it be nice if the Rio Grande were 21 miles wide? Imagine that America&#8217;s southern border were not a river a determined man can wade across in a minute, but a heaving, freezing stretch of open ocean, criss-crossed by the world&#8217;s busiest shipping lanes. You might assume that would be a secured enough border, even under Joe Biden. You would be wrong.
Great Britain has precisely that moat: the English Channel. And yet for a variety of infuriating reasons, we are seeing huge numbers of illegal immigrants able to float over in dinghies. President Trump has taken notice. Just hours before he spoke on the subject recently, more than 500 people crossed over from a French beach in rubber dinghies.
The president warned Britain&#8217;s new prime minister, Andy Burnham, that he cannot keep ducking the subject. Illegal immigration is “killing your country,” he said; migrants from Africa, South America, and Asia are “invading Europe,” and the “UK is a prime suspect.” More direct than delicate European ears want to hear? Certainly. But also correct.
Shakespeare called the Channel a “moat defensive to a house.” It kept out the Spanish Armada in 1588, Napoleon in 1805, and Hitler in 1940. What the great tyrants of European history could not achieve with fleets and armies, young men in inflatable boats now achieve before breakfast. More than 200,000 have arrived this way since 2018.
For scale, the full trained strength of the British Army is around 70,000 soldiers; by some measures, it is its smallest since the 1790s. We have waved ashore nearly three armies&#8217; worth of overwhelmingly military-aged men, and removed barely four in every hundred.
Why can a serious country not defend a 21-mile sea border? Because our governing class has surrendered to what Dominic Cummings, the strategist behind Brexit, calls the “algal bloom” of lawyers, NGOs, and bureaucrats. Crucially, despite Brexit freeing us up from being a satrapy to Brussels and the anti-democratic organs of the European Union, Britain remains bound by international law.
We are still subservient to the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), a treaty interpreted by judges in Strasbourg in France, and to a domestic Human Rights Act that lets taxpayer-funded lawyers and activist charities litigate nearly every deportation, usually on the grounds that removal would breach a claimant&#8217;s “right to family life.” Imagine if every ICE removal could be appealed to a court in a foreign city, with the ACLU on retainer at public expense. That is the British system.
And who is arriving? Are they future doctors and engineers? Well, this week a court in Manchester sentenced Both Douk Deng, a (supposedly) 21-year-old South Sudanese man who left his wife and child behind to break into Britain, and refused asylum three times. In response, he<a href="https://x.com/jamespriceglos/status/2082355434292425184"> turned up at an elementary school</a> carrying a hammer, a hatchet, a seven-inch knife, and half a liter of petrol.
He wanted, his defense lawyer told the court, to “create a scene for attention.” He will serve about a year, and then in all likelihood remain in Britain anyway; even the sentencing judge complained that the Home Office ‘&#8221;should be doing something rather than nothing.”
In the face of such a total state-capacity failure, ordinary Britons have started doing things themselves. In Crowborough, a genteel Sussex town of 20,000, the government deposited 350 single adult male asylum seekers into a former army camp. Residents have formed an 81-strong volunteer patrol (all unarmed, of course, this being England) that walks the streets three times a day so that women feel safe coming home.
To be clear, I think it is a tragedy that Brits have lost faith in the state&#8217;s ability to protect them. David Betz, professor of war in the modern world at King&#8217;s College London, <a href="https://www.militarystrategymagazine.com/article/civil-war-comes-to-the-west/">warns that Britain now exhibits</a> the classic preconditions of serious civil strife, and that our rulers are doing nothing to arrest the slide. I pray he is wrong. I fear he is not.
The United States, we are constantly told, is a nation of immigrants. England is not. It is the nation of the English, culturally continuous for over a thousand years, which absorbed small, compatible groups (such as French Protestants known as Huguenots) slowly over many years. We have traditionally been an exporter of people, seeding the New World and for a time ruling over much of the rest.
The end of the Second World War saw that change, with Afro-Caribbeans, Indians and Pakistanis moving to Britain. There is a claim that they came in response to a call for help to rebuild. This is untrue, and the post-war Labour government actually tried to stop the first loads coming. This led to integration issues, with some groups assimilating better than others.
But in the last few years, we have seen what is now called the “Boriswave”: after Brexit, Boris Johnson&#8217;s government loosened the visa rules, and net migration hit 906,000 in a single year, more than the population of San Francisco, into a country smaller than Oregon.
And our absurdly generous welfare state removes any pressure to integrate at all. Households containing foreign nationals now draw nearly £1 billion (around $1.3 billion) a month in welfare payments, with roughly 1.5 million migrants claiming our main out-of-work benefit.
This scale of immigration is threatening to tear Europe apart. Poland has been prosecuting, and then acquitting, soldiers who fired warning shots at migrants prising apart its border fence with a car jack. Those migrants were flown in and pushed forward by Belarus and Russia as a deliberate weapon against NATO; one Polish soldier has been stabbed to death on that frontier. The rise of the AfD in Germany and Marine Le Pen in France is similarly fuelled by these sorts of concerns.
The British and European peoples are, by instinct, tolerant, patient, and kind. But Donald Trump is right to say that this invasion must be stopped before it kills Europe. A moat is no use when the drawbridge is down. It is time to raise it.

Powerball launched UK ticket sales on Tuesday, allowing British players to join the lottery and outraging American players who could see their money go into the pockets of people in a foreign country.
“This next step brings us closer to a thrilling milestone for Powerball,” Rebecca Paul, President &amp; CEO of the Tennessee Lottery, <a href="https://www.powerball.com/powerball-launch-set-in-the-uk-for-july-21-first-drawing-to-follow">said</a> in a statement. “More players means faster-growing jackpots, more excitement and even greater impact for the communities we serve.”
Powerball assured players that the price of the tickets and the odds would not be affected, as it will still be $2 to play in the United States. Additionally, the odds of choosing the five white ball numbers and the red Powerball number — the jackpot — will still be an astronomical 1 in 292.2 million.
The new Powerball pools American and British money only for the jackpot, ABC News <a href="https://www.abc10.com/article/news/nation-world/powerball-lottery-expands-uk-odds-winning/507-e400c4dc-28d7-46f4-b50d-d0e35e364095">reported</a>, and an American and U.K. player will have to split the winnings if they get the same numbers.
“More than half of each Powerball ticket sold stays in the jurisdiction where it is purchased, helping fund public programs and services, including education, scholarships, veteran services and more,” Powerball said.
British players have to pay more for each ticket — £4, which is about $5.35 — the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2026/07/23/us-news/powerball-players-outraged-over-lotterys-historic-expansion-abroad-rigged-anyway/">reported</a>. Additionally, the prize is post-tax for U.K. players, and they must receive the jackpot in installments over 30 years, whereas American players can choose to receive a lump-sum payout. 
In return, British players win more for the smaller prizes. A player in the United Kingdom can win £11.90 ($15) — by matching the Powerball alone, whereas American players only win $4. Additionally, U.K. gamblers can win around £1,100 ($1,470) for matching four of the main numbers — while players in the United States only win $100 for the same lucky draw.
News about the change has been met with overwhelming <a href="https://x.com/Breaking911/status/2079947106920349859">opposition</a> on social media.
“Holy crap. Powerball is now the lottery equivalent of USAID,” one person complained.
“My money will not go to allow a ‘UK Gang Rapist’ win millions outta luck,” another social media user stated, referencing an independent report commissioned by MP Rupert Lowe <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/episode/michael-and-survivor-ep-40">detailing</a> how 250,000 white British girls and women have allegedly been raped by Muslim grooming gangs.
“Oh good. They’ve found another way to divert American funds to other places,” another person declared.
Many people have stated that they will be moving from the multi-state Powerball to single-state lotteries, where the odds of winning are better, and the money stays local.
A person is more likely to become president, be struck by lightning twice, be killed by a cow, or win an Olympic gold medal than to win the Powerball jackpot, according to <a href="https://www.oklahoman.com/story/news/2025/09/04/powerball-odds-these-15-things-are-more-likely-to-happen-than-winning/85970333007/">The Oklahoman</a>.

Newly unsealed federal court documents revealed the laundry list of charges against brothers Andrew and Tristan Tate — a list that includes multiple rape charges, sex trafficking, and possession of child sex abuse material.
The new court documents allege a disturbing pattern of behavior, with British prosecutors accusing both men of repeatedly choking women — in some cases until they lost consciousness — before raping them. The specific allegations detailed in the complaint involve incidents against several women in England dating back more than a decade, including one woman who told investigators she feared for her life during an assault.
Andrew Tate now faces seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three assault counts, and 19 additional charges tied to child exploitation material, according to the unsealed complaint. Tristan Tate faces two rape counts, one sexual assault count, and three counts of sex trafficking. Combined, British authorities have now filed 59 charges against the pair — a dramatic escalation from the original 21 counts filed last year.
The Tates will remain in federal custody after appearing before a Miami court on Monday, where their attorneys signaled they intend to fight extradition to the United Kingdom on the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/andrew-and-tristan-tate-arrested-in-florida-on-rape-child-pornography-charges">sprawling list of charges</a>. The hearing came just two days after U.S. marshals arrested the brothers at a boxing event in downtown Miami on a sealed U.K. warrant.
The brothers&#8217; attorney, Joseph McBride, told reporters outside the courthouse that the case against his clients was politically motivated and dismissed the allegations. The Tates have retained a South Florida defense team to fight extradition, with another court date set for next week to address whether they&#8217;ll remain detained in the meantime.
Monday&#8217;s hearing is the latest chapter in a legal saga that stretches back to 2022, when Romanian authorities first arrested the brothers on human trafficking charges. That case, along with a separate allegation involving a minor, remains unresolved. The Tates spent roughly two years on and off under house arrest in Romania before travel restrictions were lifted, allowing them to relocate back to the United States.
The brothers built their fortune and online following through webcam pornography operations and later Hustler&#8217;s University, a subscription-based self-help program that taught young men to emulate the Tates&#8217; aggressive, wealth-flaunting persona. The brothers made increasingly inflammatory public statements, including antisemitic remarks and a Nazi salute following Hamas&#8217; October 7 attack.
Florida&#8217;s attorney general opened his own investigation into the Tates last year, and federal anti-trafficking investigators have reportedly been examining the brothers as well, though no state or federal charges have yet been filed domestically.

On Sunday, President Donald Trump blasted Starmer, writing on Truth Social, &#8220;Keir Starmer will resign as Prime Minister of The United Kingdom. He failed badly on two very important subjects — IMMIGRATION AND ENERGY (OPEN NORTH SEA OIL!). I wish him well!&#8221;
The writing had been on the wall for months. Labour&#8217;s vote share had cratered to a humiliating 17% in May&#8217;s local elections, with Nigel Farage&#8217;s Reform U.K. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lying-rat-keir-starmer-ripped-for-blocking-right-wing-activists-from-unite-the-kingdom-rally?author=Hank+Berrien&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=%E2%80%98Lying+Rat%E2%80%99%3A+Keir+Starmer+Ripped+For+Blocking+Right-Wing+Activists+From+%E2%80%98Unite+The+Kingdom%E2%80%99+Rally">surging</a> past them at 26%. The human rights lawyer-turned-prime minister spent his final months under fire for his failure to address Britain&#8217;s broken National Health Service and immigration crisis and for banning foreign speakers from a conservative rally. In May, Starmer blocked seven international figures — including elected Polish MEP Dominik Tarczyński — from attending the &#8220;Unite the Kingdom&#8221; rally in London, with his Home Office declaring their presence &#8220;not conducive to the public good.&#8221;
Tarczyński wasn&#8217;t having it. &#8220;This is what communism looks like in the 21st century,&#8221; the Polish lawmaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-growing-fight-over-who-gets-to-enter-country-just-took-another-wild-turn?author=Hank+Berrien&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=A+Growing+Fight+Over+Who+Gets+To+Enter+Country+Just+Took+Another+Wild+Turn">raged</a>, vowing to sue Starmer personally. &#8220;Once you lose the next election, communist, we&#8217;ll meet in court!&#8221;

On St. George&#8217;s Day, he called patriots &#8220;plastic&#8221; — mocking Britons who dared to fly their own national flag. In 2020, he championed Black Lives Matter rioters as &#8220;people rightly demanding justice.&#8221; In August 2024, he called anti-immigration protesters — outraged after a man whose parents emigrated from Rwanda knifed three little girls to death in Southport — &#8220;far-Right thugs.&#8221;
Then, Starmer&#8217;s government surrendered British territory to Mauritius for $46 billion in what critics called a stunning act of national self-harm. Topping it all off, Starmer recognized Palestinian statehood with zero conditions — handing a diplomatic prize to a movement that celebrated the October 7 massacre — prompting Tory leader Kemi Badenoch to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/absolutely-disastrous-british-conservative-leader-rips-starmer-recognizing-palestinian-state?author=Hank+Berrien&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=%E2%80%98Absolutely+Disastrous%E2%80%99%3A+British+Conservative+Leader+Rips+Starmer+Recognizing+%E2%80%98Palestinian+State%E2%80%99">declare</a>, &#8220;We will all rue the day this decision was made.&#8221;
&#8220;They cannot fix the NHS, so they push assisted suicide,&#8221; Badenoch scorched. &#8220;He will spend the next four years delivering the hobby horses of the Labour left to stay in power and leave a HUGE mess for us to clean up.&#8221;
Now the scramble is on to replace him. Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham is the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-slow-awkward-race-to-replace-keir-starmer?author=Rhys+Laverty&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=The+Slow+Awkward+Race+To+Replace+Keir+Starmer">frontrunner</a> after he won an election to return to the House of Commons. Former Health Secretary Wes Streeting, Ed Miliband, and Deputy Prime Minister-turned-resigned Angela Rayner are also circling.

Starmer’s Exit Comes Just Hours After Trump’s Tongue-Lashing

Adam Smith once said that there was a great deal of ruin in a nation. 250 years since he said these words of consolation, Great Britain, his country and mine, seems to be trying to test that hypothesis to destruction. A few days ago, whilst the U.K. was reeling from yet another horrifically violent attack, The Atlantic published an article, “How Britain Became as Poor as Mississippi.” Whilst it is true that the British economy is in almost as parlous a state as its social fabric, the article makes several key mistakes when trying to work out what is breaking Britain.
What is really going on? As The Atlantic notes, by some measures, Brits were better off than their American cousins in the run up to the Great Financial Crash. We had nudged ahead in GDP per capita, and that’s with shorter working hours, more holiday, and the “socialized medicine” that many Americans seem to desire (more on that later).
The crash hit Britain particularly hard, however. The last Labour government has run huge deficits in the good times, sold off gold reserves, and overextended itself in Iraq and Afghanistan, whilst pouring money into unreformed public services and welfare. The national debt literally nearly doubled.
When the tide went out, we were in a desperate situation and in need of serious fiscal retrenchment, regardless of which party won the 2010 election. The Left will tell you that the bone-crushing austerity that brutalized the population caused this. The truth was that real spending was cut just 3%, over four years, from the highest base in British history.
The real problem with the crash, beyond an explosion in debt and the cost of servicing it, was the spread of a safetyist culture that prevented the bounce-back growth enjoyed by the U.S.A. and other countries. Instead, traumatized by the subprime mortgage scandal, regulators seized control of huge swaths of the economy and prevented the kind of robust economic growth needed to sustain a large welfare state and improve living conditions.
As growth left the equation, so too did a belief that things could get better. And this doomerist safetyism extended to a Quasi-Autonomous Non-Governmental Organization, the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), that held a sword of Damocles over every budget. The OBR scores tax cuts as almost pure cost, crediting them with virtually no growth feedback, while scoring mass immigration as a fiscal positive; so the official arithmetic blesses one and damns the other before any minister opens his mouth.
More important even than the loss of understanding in economic growth is the way the British state operates. The fusion of the executive and legislature has traditionally given government powers that the U.S. presidency could only dream of. Britain has been famously described as an elective dictatorship in a mode that would have pleased Thomas Hobbes. In Britain’s uncodified (and in parts entirely unwritten) constitution, it is Parliament which is sovereign.
But the growth of the managerial (deep) state has gone much further even than in the U.S., and absent the federalism that allows America to build and compete, unitary Britain and its Parliament have become paralyzed from doing anything.
Lilliputian lawyers, charities, and NGOs have bound Leviathan, making it impossible to build data centers, aqueducts, houses, runways, and power plants. This, combined with net zero fanaticism, means Britain has the most expensive energy in the world (of course, we banned fracking years ago). To its credit, The Atlantic highlights some of the most absurd stipulations that overmighty Non-Governmental Organizations have insisted on, like the bat tunnel over a train line to allow bats to safely pass (there is in fact some evidence that it became a bat-killing tunnel as the poor creatures couldn’t escape it, but of course, no one lost their job over this).
Perhaps most alien to American readers is the fact that when Keir Starmer and Labour took over in July 2024, only 200 people across the whole of the British state changed jobs. One hundred ministers (including the PM and cabinet) drawn entirely from the 411 Labour MPs and 215 Labour Lords, and 100 “special advisers (SpAds),” the only political appointments allowed in the whole system. As a former SpAd myself, I can attest that the civil servants would always outnumber and outlast us. Not that it mattered much anyway; SpAds have no legal power to direct officials; we can only advise the minister.
In this way, all the same people, bar a minuscule number of figureheads, stay in post regardless of who wins the election. And because they never leave the system (it’s a job for life), they are extremely hostile to capitalism and the private sector, and frankly to outside ideas of any kind. It is, of course, fanatically fond of mass immigration.
This “blob” is the biggest hindrance to Britain’s prosperity and security. It breaks the Lockean feedback mechanisms that meaningful elections provide, and ruins the Hobbesian idea of the Sovereign&#8217;s power to act decisively. It never suffers if the economy does, and any scandal sees the elected minister (essentially a figurehead) fall on his sword, not them.
The reason for Brexit was that the European Union had become sovereign over Parliament. Now it is the officials who are sovereign and in control of the economy. Until there is a true restoration of the sovereignty of Parliament, Britain will remain poor, insular, and at risk from threats both at home and overseas. There is a great deal of ruin in a nation, but Britain cannot survive these problems endlessly without utter ruin.

The One Thing That Could Save The British Economy From Complete Ruin

A prominent Polish member of the European Parliament and a leading voice for national sovereignty, launched a <a href="https://www.gbnews.com/news/unite-the-kingdom-rally-polish-mep-keir-starmer-home-office">scathing broadside</a> against British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, promising personal legal action after the Labour government barred him from entering the United Kingdom for the &#8220;Unite the Kingdom&#8221; rally on Saturday.
Dominik Tarczyński, a member of Poland’s Right-wing Law and Justice party, was set to headline the rally in London this weekend. However, he is now one of seven international figures blocked from entering Britain by the country&#8217;s Home Office. U.K. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood reportedly deemed their presence “not conducive to the public good.”
The move has ignited a firestorm of criticism regarding free speech and the selective enforcement of border controls under the Starmer administration. Tarczyński did not mince words on social media, framing the ban as a descent into authoritarianism.
&#8220;This is what communism looks like in the 21st century,&#8221; Tarczyński declared. &#8220;I have just been denied entry to the U.K. in order to speak at the largest patriotic event in Europe. Starmer will be sued by me. Not the Government, not the Home Office but Starmer personally. Once you lose the next election, communist, we’ll meet in court!&#8221;
The Polish lawmaker’s defiance comes as Starmer’s authority faces unprecedented pressure. While the prime minister <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snsqgwpboUQ">characterized</a> the rally as a design to &#8220;confront and intimidate&#8221; a diverse country, critics point to a glaring double standard. The ban on &#8220;far-Right&#8221; speakers stands in stark contrast to the government’s approach toward the &#8220;Nakba Day&#8221; pro-Palestine demonstrations occurring the same day.
For Tarczyński — who has frequently urged Western nations to &#8220;be like Poland&#8221; by rejecting mass migration — the ban is a badge of honor and a symptom of a failing establishment.
&#8220;This communist cannot silence millions,&#8221; he said.

This admission has only fueled the narrative that the Labour government is operating under the influence of sectarian interests rather than impartial law enforcement.
While Starmer claims to be fighting a &#8220;battle for the soul of our nation,&#8221; his critics argue he is merely suppressing political dissent while the U.K.’s borders remain porous. With Tarczyński threatening to drag the prime minister into court and the Trump administration previously expressing concern over European suppression of speech, Starmer’s attempt to &#8220;block hate&#8221; may have instead created a massive international legal and diplomatic headache for his crumbling administration.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer delivered a <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=snsqgwpboUQ">high-stakes speech</a> to the Labour Party on Monday, widely viewed as a desperate attempt to stave off a leadership coup following the &#8220;political earthquake&#8221; of the May 7 elections. With Labour&#8217;s national vote share plummeting to 17% and Reform U.K. surging to 26%, Starmer’s authority is hanging by a thread as senior MPs demand a &#8220;dignified exit.&#8221;
In a move critics call a calculated distraction, Starmer pivoted to attacking the &#8220;Unite the Kingdom&#8221; rally scheduled for Saturday, May 16, and announced that his government would &#8220;block far-Right agitators from traveling to Britain&#8221; to participate in the rally. Positioning himself as a noble defender of British decency, he accused his opponents of practicing &#8220;grievance politics&#8221; and looking for &#8220;someone to blame.&#8221; He also argued that his party was engaged in &#8220;a battle for the soul of our nation.&#8221;
However, Starmer’s selective targeting has sparked accusations of blatant hypocrisy. While he vowed to block international attendees for Tommy Robinson’s &#8220;Unite the Kingdom&#8221; event, he notably remained silent regarding participants for the other two massive anti-Right rallies occurring the same day: the &#8220;Nakba 78&#8221; March for Palestine and the trade union counter-protests. This omission is particularly glaring to his detractors, given the recent surge in extremist violence in the U.K., including the October 2025 Heaton Park synagogue terror attack by Jihad al-Shamie and the December 2025 Islamic State-inspired plot by Walid Saadaoui and Amar Hussein to massacre Jewish citizens.
Tommy Robinson, the leader of the &#8220;Unite the Kingdom&#8221; rally, issued a fiery response on X, branding the Prime Minister a &#8220;lying rat.&#8221; Robinson highlighted the irony of Starmer’s crackdown on &#8220;far-Right&#8221; international travel while the U.K.’s borders remain &#8220;wide open to invaders.&#8221; He directly addressed U.S. leaders, claiming Starmer lied to President Trump and Vice President JD Vance by targeting others who wish to support the rally for free speech and national sovereignty.

Starmer’s critics point to a long-standing pattern of selective enforcement, harkening back to his time as Director of Public Prosecutions. During that period, at least 1,400 children were victims of grooming gangs in Rotherham — perpetrated largely by British Pakistani men — with many arguing the CPS was too cautious or concerned with &#8220;avoiding accusations of racism&#8221; to intervene effectively.
As the May 16 rallies approach, Starmer faces a dual threat: a &#8220;mutinous&#8221; Parliamentary Labour Party and a public that increasingly views his &#8220;battle for the soul of the nation&#8221; as a partisan attempt to suppress one side of the political spectrum while ignoring radicalism on the other.
With the &#8220;Men in Grey Suits&#8221; reportedly preparing to visit 10 Downing Street, Starmer&#8217;s focus on Saturday’s march may be his final act as leader.

Britain’s political establishment woke up this morning in a state of shock. Across England in the local council elections — the rough equivalent of a “midterm” on that side of the Atlantic — voters abandoned both Labour and the Conservatives in droves, handing huge gains to Reform U.K. in what commentators are already calling a political earthquake.
The Westminster class will spend days analyzing swing percentages, demographic shifts, and campaign strategies. But the reason ordinary Britons revolted is much simpler than the experts would like to admit.
Whether in rural towns or urban centers, people are sick of a political elite obsessed with policing speech, policing thought, and policing “offense” while failing to police actual crime. The message was clear: “Enough.”
Enough of watching violent crime spiral in major cities while police forces spend their time monitoring tweets and recording “non-crime hate incidents.”
Enough of hearing endless lectures about “harmful language” while grooming gang scandals continue to haunt communities across the North of England, with victims still waiting for justice and accountability.
Enough of watching peaceful Christians being dragged through the courts for expressing their faith, while ordinary citizens increasingly feel unsafe in their own streets.
And nowhere is that national frustration more vividly embodied than in the conviction this week of retired Northern Irish pastor Clive Johnston — on the very same day that Brits took to the polls. A 78-year-old grandfather now has a criminal record because he preached from the Bible outdoors.
Not for harassment. Not for violence. Not for obstruction. Not even for mentioning abortion.
His crime? Preaching a message from John 3:16 at a small outdoor Sunday service held near a hospital, where a large “buffer zone” is in place covering several streets, banning anything the police interpret to be “influence.”
That is modern Britain in a nutshell.
The authorities insist these buffer zone laws are designed to prevent intimidation outside abortion facilities. Of course, nobody should be harassed anywhere on British streets, and legislation already exists to prevent that. But Johnston’s case revealed something much bigger — and much darker. Police bodycam footage shown in court captured officers telling the pastor he should share the Gospel only inside a “safe area” like a chaplaincy, not on the public street where passers-by might hear him, and potentially take offense.
Think carefully about what that means. Britain now has areas of public space where peaceful Christian expression can effectively become criminal if somebody decides it might “influence” another person.
Christianity, apparently, is acceptable only when carefully confined to approved spaces.
Meanwhile, in city after city, police forces that somehow lack the resources to tackle shoplifting epidemics, anti-social behavior, knife crime, or organized exploitation networks can apparently still find the time and manpower to prosecute elderly pastors quoting Scripture, or individual women stopping to pray in their own heads.
It is difficult to imagine a clearer example of institutional priorities gone mad.
This is precisely why voters are abandoning both establishment parties. The Conservatives spent years talking tough on culture war issues while presiding over the steady erosion of free speech and public order alike. Labour, meanwhile, has abysmally failed to restore confidence in basic law enforcement. Ordinary people look around their communities and see disorder tolerated, borders abused by criminal traffickers, anti-social behavior normalized, and public institutions increasingly hostile to traditional values — especially Christian ones.
Then they watch a pensioner being prosecuted for preaching the Gospel.
They conclude, quite rationally, that the people running the country no longer share their instincts about right and wrong.
The revolt we witnessed in the elections was not simply economic, but moral and cultural. Across Britain, there is a growing sense that the authorities have become harsher toward the decent than toward the dangerous. They certainly seem more comfortable targeting peaceful Christians than confronting genuinely difficult social problems.
A nation cannot function when millions of ordinary citizens begin to believe there are effectively two systems of policing: one lenient toward chaos, and another aggressively punitive toward citizens who hold unfashionable beliefs.
Britain birthed America with all her understandings of liberty and democracy. This parental nation was not built on the idea that faith belongs hidden away in private rooms while the public square is handed over entirely to secular bureaucracies and activist-approved ideology. Britain was shaped by Christianity — culturally, morally, legally, and politically. From the abolition of slavery to the creation of charitable institutions, Christian belief has always shaped public life openly and unapologetically.
What voters increasingly reject is not merely “wokeness” as a slogan. They reject a governing philosophy that treats traditional values and Christian beliefs as suspect while excusing failure everywhere else. The election results show that the old political consensus is breaking apart. People want order restored. They want police focused on violent criminals, traffickers, gangs, and repeat offenders — not elderly pastors preaching John 3:16.

Great Britain Is A Case Of Institutional Priorities Gone Mad, So Voters Revolted 

During the two-decade run of &#8220;The Ellen DeGeneres Show,&#8221; its host would end each episode with the line, &#8220;Be kind to one another.&#8221; That was until the show got cancelled following allegations that DeGeneres created a toxic environment for her employees. Now, she spends her time in English exile complaining that President Donald Trump isn&#8217;t nice enough.
We all wish we had a nickel for every celebrity who vowed to leave the country if Donald Trump won the election. And then it happened twice. Ka-ching. 
Yet the vast majority of stars, <a href="https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/cher-leave-the-country-trump-reelected-guardian-interview-1234856398/">like Cher</a>, never leave. They collectively memory-holed their vow while keeping up a “resistance” posture. Not Ellen DeGeneres. She followed through on the promise to leave. The disgraced talk show host literally left the country at the end of 2024 before Trump took office for greener pastures. Bucolic England, to be more accurate. And <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c8d638rrndzo">she loved</a> her new home:

Yes. The comedienne who was bounced from her own show for chronic cruelty is now a big fan of polite behavior, apparently.

President Trump’s reelection weighed heavily in her decision to flee the country. She also worried Trump — who has appointed openly gay men to be key parts of his administration, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and adviser Ric Grenell — would end same-sex marriage in the United States.
That was then. A year and a half of Trump-induced exile was apparently enough. The &#8220;Finding Nemo&#8221; star is now using some of her American-earned royalties to buy a new home … back in America.
The comic and her longtime squeeze Portia de Rossi just gobbled up a $27 million mansion in Montecito, California. The plan, at the moment, is for the couple to split time between England and the United States. But it appears their return may <a href="https://pagesix.com/2026/02/04/celebrity-news/inside-ellen-degeneres-decision-to-buy-california-home-one-year-after-uk-move/">be temporary</a>.
Imagine having enough money to buy a California mansion with the plan to ditch it in the near future.

One would think a celebrity of her stature might have a debt of gratitude to a country that allows that kind of financial freedom. Perhaps she’ll realize life in the United States, even under a so-called “dictator,” still has its perks. 
Maybe not.
It’s also unclear what DeGeneres thinks about the recent crackdowns on free speech on British citizens, including <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/irish-comedian-recounts-shocking-arrest-over-anti-trans-social-media-posts">the arrest</a> of comedic colleague Graham Linehan at Heathrow Airport over a social media post about men entering women&#8217;s spaces. She’s yet to weigh in on the matter via social media, even though she’s been a stand-up comic for decades, a gig that demands all the free speech room Western culture can offer.
For now, a <a href="https://people.com/ellen-degeneres-missing-california-after-moving-to-england-buys-new-house-montecito-11898028">People magazine source</a> says the duo missed California’s weather and “horse scene.” They&#8217;ll hole up back in California while they build a massive horse stable and riding area at the United Kingdom estate. 
De Rossi is an animal enthusiast and appears to have put her extensive Hollywood career behind her. The “Arrested Development” co-star’s resume dried up in recent years with no new projects on the horizon.
The same may not be true for DeGeneres.
The comedian delivered a rare stand-up special late in 2024 on Netflix. It was her first attempt at explaining away all the terrible headlines tied to her ugly TV talk show exit on her terms, not any tabloid headlines.

No filters. Just DeGeneres and her considerable wit. Except the special didn’t capture the upbeat humor that entertained so many Americans over the years. And, when it came to addressing the elephant on the stage, her toxic behavior, DeGeneres fumbled.
Even Variety, a far-left outlet that might be gracious to any DeGeneres comeback given her legitimate status as an LGBT pioneer, <a href="https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/ellen-degeneres-netflix-special-review-for-your-approval-1236153600/">cried foul.</a>
It’s a spectacle of ego that seems at odds with the humble demeanor DeGeneres shows on stage — but then, that divide has lately been part of the whole Ellen experience.
And, it appeared, the special was her way of speaking her mind and bowing out of Hollywood, officially.
Then again, how many artists have promised to hang up their professional hats only to return a short time later? If DeGeneres truly embraced the kindness and beauty of her new British home, why not move to any of the other states in America, where she’ll find plenty of both? Why pick a city that’s less than two hours from Los Angeles, still a major Hollywood hub?
Her recent social media musings prove she’s still plugged in to American news headlines and, more importantly, remains on the same page as her former Hollywood denizens. She recently offered “<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/DTquV4Ekoa1/">prayers</a>” to Minneapolis for the self-inflicted chaos engulfing the city over ICE arrests.
Perhaps DeGeneres is taking a page from the playbook of another former talk show host: Rosie O’Donnell. They’re both former comedians who fled the country thanks to President Trump, but neither can leave their old home’s politics behind.

O’Donnell’s unhinged rants over all things Trump have flowed steadily from her social media accounts despite living full-time in Ireland for the past year. She even questioned whether President Trump’s 2024 assassination attempt <a href="https://www.aol.com/rosie-o-donnell-angrily-rants-170206586.html?guccounter=1&amp;guce_referrer=aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZ29vZ2xlLmNvbS8&amp;guce_referrer_sig=AQAAALPU--JZlGu-3QIZUjsflhvuYeZX7XoyxpfJhyLNRnDIDk9HQL9hAPxOsPCgPQy9SswtbIx4ZnRpJGMKNouhyDFBJGmhF7-yioQ8-MHodua6LPGwGCthczcNsJ2FQQCqA6-bMXCmKzKUBcL4iEh6QiwcUag87dgV7xzqhfeN2Fsy">actually happened</a>.
And both DeGeneres and O’Donnell played up a sweet, friendly brand that proved to be anything but accurate. O’Donnell’s “Queen of Nice” shtick, along with her crush on Tom Cruise, proved to be pure Hollywood fiction.
And we all know how afraid “Ellen” staffers were to be near their boss behind the scenes.
Perhaps DeGeneres’ self-imposed American exile, along with her speedy return, will end up as stand-up fodder for her next comeback attempt. Turns out even self-exiled Hollywood royalty will eventually return to the kingdom that made her rich.

People in Britain often say that the United States is much like the United Kingdom. Recent polling by Freshwater Strategy showed that the British public thinks that the U.K., as a country, would be the 7th richest U.S. state. The actual 7th richest state, North Dakota, boasts a GDP per capita of $102,000 compared to the U.K.’s $52,000.
Many Brits assume that in both economies most people are poor, while a small number of individuals accumulate vast wealth at the top. In this myth, the U.S. suffers from the same perceived problem as Britain of inequality without wider prosperity.
The uncomfortable reality, however, is that the average Brit is significantly poorer than most Americans.
By GDP per capita, parts of America that are routinely described as economically lagging outperform the British economy. Even Mississippi, often cited as the poorest state, has a GDP per capita of $54,000. That should be a sobering benchmark. This is not a story about inequality in Britain but about weak national wealth creation.
Britain retains the self-image of a rich country but its underlying performance tells a different story — one of high taxes, vast regulation, weak productivity growth, and poor incentives for entrepreneurs.
This reality has shaped the political climate. Between 2008 and the E.U. referendum in 2016, living standards stalled. The Brexit vote was, in part, a collective response to that stagnation and a demand for a different economic trajectory. Leaving the E.U. was never a growth strategy in itself but rather an opportunity to pursue one.
In this respect, Brexit was — and still is — a fork in the road. Britain has greater autonomy over its regulatory, tax, and trade policy. The question is whether that autonomy is used to drive growth or not. In some areas, Britain has benefited from its post-Brexit freedoms. Examples of this range from tech, where being outside the E.U.’s regulatory regime has allowed the U.K. to be more nimble, to healthcare, where we can now approve new drugs far faster. Overall, however, we have not made as much of these freedoms as we should have. 
Critics blame Brexit for Britain’s economic stagnation, but much of it stems from longer-term policies that have held back prosperity.
The preconditions for entrepreneurship are not new, nor are they particularly complicated. I recently co-authored a book with Dr. Arthur B. Laffer and others called <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/Prosperity-Through-Growth-Standards-Disinformation-ebook/dp/B0FP3WPW6Z/ref=sr_1_1?crid=RCU8GVEQ5895&amp;dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.Qi7pfmaBWI3SOK7ThVB1F6kdMIM62-7Uwj6luPyjVkDKKI54VPK7IVlT1dVJfFQu.OQ-kNm7gXECxObiXcJrN6HqpotDFqUx2dulfB9kD06w&amp;dib_tag=se&amp;keywords=prosperity+through+growth">Prosperity Through Growth: Boosting Living Standards in an Age of Autocracy and AI.</a> We argue that growth requires low tax rates, low government spending, sound money, smart regulation, and free trade.
Ultimately, prosperity is generated not redistributed. The focus of economic policy should be incentivizing entrepreneurship rather than redistribution. Without economic growth, debates about inequality become zero-sum.
Britain’s problem isn’t that wealth is unevenly distributed. It is that the overall economic pie has grown too slowly for too long. And that pie is being cut into ever more pieces with the explosion of migration to the U.K.
This explains a paradox that defines modern Britain. All the fundamentals are there, but the incentives often discourage entrepreneurship. Inequality becomes more visible not because of a few too rich people but because the middle is comparatively squeezed.
Americans, on the other hand, enjoy higher median incomes. Take plumbers, for example, who earn $62,000 on average in America, compared to $43,000 in Britain. As President Kennedy once said, &#8220;A rising tide lifts all boats.&#8221;
The danger is that the debate remains focused on distribution rather than growth. Framing Britain as a country with a few very rich people and many struggling households risks misdiagnosing the problem.
A more accurate diagnosis is that Britain is an underperforming advanced economy. It has the capabilities to be significantly more prosperous than it currently is, but has failed to convert those capabilities into sustained growth.
The implication is straightforward. If Britain wants to meaningfully raise living standards, it must prioritize policies that incentivize growth.
The European Union referendum result reflected a demand for change. Whether that demand ultimately leads to greater prosperity depends not on the act of leaving the E.U., but on what we do with the freedoms that followed. Ironically, when critics of Brexit cite studies suggesting that the U.K. economy would be 8% bigger had it stayed in the E.U., those studies assume Britain would have grown at the same rate as the United States in the period since 2016. 
I look forward to seeing the British people enjoy the same pro-growth policies and prosperity that Americans enjoy.

Initially, it was all very dapper: the tea, the crumpets, and the fanfare. They were all good and fine.
But then the King of England, King Charles III, decided to use his royal prerogative and lecture us on how to run our country, on how America ought to lead the world.
Shut the hell up.
It’s true that there are many lessons to be learned from Great Britain over the past century.
But the biggest one is this: Don’t do what they did.
King Charles is currently representing a civilization that no longer exists. He&#8217;s an empty crown, sitting atop a civilization that gave up the ghost a long time ago. There&#8217;s only one takeaway Americans should have from the King&#8217;s visit: If Great Britain has zigged, we ought to zag.
Britain is a cautionary tale. If we follow their path, we collapse the same way they have.

Charles’ visit to the United States began with Revolutionary-Era soldiers welcoming the king in the Rose Garden.
Somewhat ironic; the last king who experienced Revolutionary-era soldiers would not have been welcomed in quite this way.
As a student of American history and as a devotee of British philosophers ranging from John Locke to Edmund Burke, I love the fact that the United States is rooted in Anglican and English history. I love it. It&#8217;s great.
Charles called the bond between the United States and the UK priceless and eternal. He joked about the idea that if it were not for Great Britain, we would be speaking French, a response to President Trump saying that if it were not for us, the British would be speaking German (I assume Charles was referring to the French and Indian War, which doesn&#8217;t make a whole hell of a lot of sense, because if the French had won the French and Indian War, it is very likely that many of the settlers would have returned to England).
But then the king decided it was time to lecture the United States. And this is the part to which I object.
It began with him talking about Christianity. He said, “For many here and for myself, the Christian faith is a firm anchor and daily inspiration that guides us not only personally.”
So far, so good, although I&#8217;m not sure why Democrats were clapping.
“Together as members of our community, having devoted a large part of my life to interfaith relationships and greater understanding,” he continued. “It is that faith in the triumph of light over darkness, which I have found confirmed countless times through it. I am inspired by the profound respect that develops as people of different faiths grow in their understanding of each other.”
There we go. This was all going to lead up to a bit of a lecture about America&#8217;s foreign policy.
As a person who is not Christian, I have tremendous admiration for Christianity and what it has done in the world. I encourage people to go to church all the time, but it turns out that if you want a robust Christianity, that Christianity cannot be based on vague principles. It has to be based on faith.
So when you hear the Brits lecturing the United States, a much more religious country, about Christianity and interfaith relations, let&#8217;s be real: Great Britain has taken religion and trodden it through the mud.
The statistics don&#8217;t lie. According to the UK&#8217;s 2022 census, 51% of people in the UK identify as having no religion, according to a 2024 British Social Attitudes Survey. A paltry 9% of the population attends a religious service once a week or more.
And as far as Anglican identity, it doesn&#8217;t exist anymore. 2.6% of people aged 16 to 34 identify with the Church of England.
Meanwhile, the tremendous increase in radical Islam in the kingdom has been overwhelming. 15% of London, at a minimum, is Muslim. A huge percentage of those people are radicalized. According to one survey conducted in 2016 by the polling exchange, 4% of British Muslims say that 9/11 was executed by al Qaeda, 7% say the Jews, and 31% say the American government.
Great Britain imported millions of people who believe this. Millions of people. This is where their interfaith nonsense has gotten them.
So, as far as being lectured on Christianity and interfaith attitudes by the Brits, the answer is no.
You know where interfaith is going in Britain. Interfaith is about tolerance for radical Islam, which is why today, the day after King Charles visited the United States, there was an attack in Golders Green, which is a very heavily Jewish part of London, in which a radical Muslim took out a kitchen knife and started stabbing people who were wearing Jewish garb.
According to UK government data, there were 15,859 total reported incidents of knife crime in London in 2025 alone. We know that Great Britain&#8217;s interfaith tolerance allowed for gigantic grooming gangs to basically run the place for years on end, out of fear that there might be a backlash to open immigration.
King Charles also took the opportunity to lecture us on climate change. We should mention that the UK has destroyed its own economy on the basis of this nonsense.
Listening to the Brits lecture us on energy production is ridiculous. Roughly 78% of the UK&#8217;s energy still comes from hydrocarbons. That would be things like oil and natural gas. The UK is constantly on the economic edge because of its extraordinary regulations and low domestic gas storage capacity. According to an article in The American Spectator, there&#8217;s a 78% tax rate on North Sea gas production and a nuclear program that&#8217;s not going to deliver energy for a decade.
The energy programs in the UK have driven them into the dirt, economically speaking.
All of this culminated in King Charles lecturing the United States on how to beat swords into plowshares rather than plowshares into swords.
I understand: King Charles represents the monarchy. Keir Starmer&#8217;s government is an appeasement-oriented, left-wing pacifist government.
In order to understand my ire here, I think you have to understand that having the British Crown come to the United States and tell us all about the old-style civilization that Britain basically surrendered in favor of welfare statism is highly irritating. 
In 1933, there was a resolution at Oxford University at their debate club, the so-called King and Country Resolution, in which the students voted, “that this House will under no circumstances fight for its king and country.” This was reflective of British sentiments; an attempt in the aftermath of the course of World War I to recede from global leadership.
You know what ended up happening? It was a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I was recently reading Winston Churchill&#8217;s “<a href="https://www.amazon.com/Gathering-Storm-Second-World-War/dp/039541055X/ref=tmm_pap_swatch_0">The Gathering Storm</a>,” which is, of course, a classic. It is the first volume of his Second World War series. In the beginning pages of the book, Churchill explains his purpose in writing the book, saying he was writing to demonstrate “how the malice of the wicked was reinforced by the weakness of the virtuous, how the structure and habits of democratic states, unless they are welded into larger organisms, lacked those elements of persistence and conviction which can alone give security to a humble masses. How, even in matters of self-preservation, no policy is pursued for even 10 or 15 years at a time. We shall see how the counsels of prudence and restraint may become the prime agents of mortal danger. How the middle course, adopted from desires for safety and quiet life, may be found to lead direct to the bullseye of disaster.” 

He continued, “We shall see how absolute is the need of a broad path of international action, pursued by many states in common across the years, irrespective of the ebb and flow of national politics.”
Great Britain is currently telling the United States that we ought not do what we are doing in Iran. They are doing absolutely nothing to help us in the Strait of Hormuz. They are perfectly willing to allow China to maximize its global influence. Only in the case of Ukraine has Britain taken a leading role in any sort of way, and even there, it&#8217;s basically to beg us for money and armaments.
After World War II, Great Britain decided it would give up global leadership in favor of irrelevance and socialism.
No country has done as much damage to itself as Great Britain through pacifism, socialism, redistributionism, and open borders.
The Brits can&#8217;t even leave their kids money, because when you give up global leadership, free markets, private property, and skew in favor of socialist idiocy and global weakness, you become irrelevant.
You don&#8217;t get to come here and lecture us about any of this.
