In a victory for the GOP, a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pennsylvania" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Pennsylvania</a> judge has upheld a decision from the Butler County Board of Elections that bars voters “curing” their defective mail-in ballots that lack inner secrecy envelopes, aka “naked ballots.”
Pennsylvania requires votes by mail to have ballots inside an inner secrecy envelope. “Prior to Election Day, the plaintiffs submitted mail-in ballots without an inner secrecy envelope and the board of elections rejected them. In an effort to cure their ballots, both voters submitted provisional ballots on Election Day. However, the board decided not to count the voters’ provisional ballots,” Democracy Docket <a href="https://www.democracydocket.com/cases/pennsylvania-butler-county-naked-ballot-curing-challenge/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">explained</a>.
“The actions of the Board in adopting a narrow cure policy that applies in such a way as to uphold voting deadlines and ensure secrecy in voting is maintained, but that allows electors the greatest possible chance of having their vote counted, does not violate either the Election Code or the Free and Equal clause of the Pennsylvania Constitution,” Judge S. Michael Yeager <a href="https://www.democracydocket.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/2024-08-16-Memorandum-opinion.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, adding, “It is the voter’s burden to ensure they have completed the steps necessary for their mail-in ballot to be included in the tabulation.”
In a prior petition to Judge Yeager, the Republican National Committee and Pennsylvania GOP <a href="https://www.democracydocket.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Pennsylvania_Lawsuit_Filing_1715088324.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">wrote</a>, “There can be no dispute that the unequivocal law of Pennsylvania is that secrecy envelopes are required, and any mail-in ballot received without a secrecy envelope cannot be counted. Knowing this, the Department of State has taken it upon itself to unilaterally reach out to voters whose mail-in ballots have been rejected due to a perceived lack of a secrecy envelope and encourage them to cure such ballots by appearing in person and voting provisionally.”

“To be clear, there is no right under Pennsylvania law to cure mail-in ballots which lack a secrecy envelope and Petitioners&#8217; attempt to create such a right where none exists should be rejected,” they stated. “The Republican Committees have a clear and obvious interest in the issues presented in this suit-and in ensuring that this issue is properly and fairly litigated to ensure that Pennsylvania law regarding a county board of elections&#8217; right to govern how it will conduct elections is followed. &#8230; The Republican Committees also have a right to intervene in this suit for another, independent reason: they seek to uphold the Election Code under which they, their voters, their member~, and their candidates exercise their constitutional rights to vote and to participate in elections in Pennsylvania.”

Democrats have just <a href="https://www.senate.gov/history/partydiv.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">47 seats in the Senate</a>, which is fewer than the 49 seats held by Republicans, but they maintain the majority thanks to the support of independents who caucus with them. A number of races this year could tilt the balance of power in the GOP&#8217;s favor.
Sens. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) and Bob Casey (D-PA) are running for re-election while the Michigan Senate contest is open as Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) is not seeking another term. David McCormick won the GOP primary in Pennsylvania. The GOP primaries in Wisconsin and Michigan are set to happen next month. All three contests are <a href="https://www.cookpolitical.com/ratings/senate-race-ratings" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rated &#8220;Lean D&#8221;</a> by The Cook Political Report, but Vance remains bullish.
&#8220;There&#8217;s a real opportunity for us to run up the score here to win those important electoral votes&#8221; in the White House race and to &#8220;elect a few really good guys to the United States Senate,&#8221; Vance argued on Sunday. He also said, &#8220;And I think that is the most important part of our country.&#8221;
Vance is one of the Republicans that Trump is considering as a running mate as he runs for a second term in the White House. Trump responded to the 34 guilty counts by calling the entire ordeal a political witch hunt that was organized by Democrats to rig the upcoming presidential election. The former president noted that he was never going to get a fair trial in the district where the overwhelming majority of voters are Democrats.

House Speaker Mike Johnson is making plans to move rapidly on legislation on a multitude of issues if the GOP wins the White House and Senate and retains a majority in the House in November’s election.
Johnson asserted that in 2017, the GOP didn’t fully take advantage of the budget reconciliation process, by which they could have passed bills on multiple issues because they were focused on tax cuts.
“We did one round of health care reform, one round of tax reform, right, but there are multiple issue areas that we think can and should survive the Byrd Rule analysis and being allowed here. So we’re just looking at it from a very different, much more comprehensive approach. And I think there’s a lot of interest among House Republicans — and the outside groups of course — about what that can look like and what the potential is,” Johnson <a href="https://punchbowl.news/archive/53024-punchbowl-news-am/#__whatmikejohnsontoldusaboutisraelandhis2025plans__" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>, according to Punchbowl News.
The Byrd rule can be cited by a senator to challenge provisions of a reconciliation bill.
Johnson is already planning on moving rapidly, saying the GOP “wasted at least a couple of months” during the first quarter of former President Donald Trump’s term; he surmised the GOP was not prepared because they thought Hillary Clinton would win the election.
“The cautionary analysis on that is that we’re going to have such an aggressive first 100 days agenda if we get unified government, which we anticipate will have, that it might encumber that agenda somewhat if you then have to deal with the appropriations process,” he said. “So we’re very carefully analyzing the number of calendar days that we’ll have to work, floor time, all the rest — everything that will be required to achieve all these big goals that we have. So that’s the analysis and there are a number of ideas on the table right now.”

Only 11 names have been revealed thus far as seven additional indicted co-conspirators have not yet been served, meaning that their names are redacted for the time being.
Those who were named include for Arizona Republican Party Chairwoman Kelli Ward, state Sens. Jake Hoffman and Anthony Kern, Chief Operating Officer of Turning Point Action Tyler Bowyer, Nancy Cottle, James Lamon, Robert Montgomery, Samuel Moorhead, Lorraine Pellegrino, Gregory Safsten, and Michael Ward.
The Washington Post <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/national-security/2024/04/24/arizona-2020-election-charges-meadows-giuliani-ellis/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the seven others who were indicted include former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorneys Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, John Eastman and Christina Bobb, campaign adviser Boris Epshteyn and former campaign aide Mike Roman.
The defendants were charged with a range of felony crimes, including Conspiracy, Fraudulent Schemes and Artifices, Fraudulent Schemes and Practices, and Forgery.
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes said in a video statement that the election in the state was &#8220;free and fair&#8221; and that &#8220;the people of Arizona elected President Biden.&#8221;
&#8220;Unwilling to accept this fact, the defendants charged by the state grand jury, allegedly schemed to prevent the lawful transfer of the presidency,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;After the general election on November 3, 2020, the defendants and other unindicted co-conspirators raised false claims of widespread voter fraud in Arizona to pressure elections officials to change the outcome of a transparent free and fair democratic election. Those efforts ultimately failed when officials stood firm, followed their statutory duties, and officially certified Arizona&#8217;s election on November 30, 2020.&#8221;
&#8220;The defendant Republican presidential electors allegedly plotting with additional defendants, then voted for Mr. Trump and Vice President Pence on December 14, 2020, falsely claiming to be the duly elected and qualified electors for President and Vice President of the United States from the state of Arizona,&#8221; she claimed. &#8220;These defendants deceived the citizens of Arizona by falsely claiming that those votes were contingent only on a legal challenge that would change the outcome of the election. In reality, the defendants intended that the false votes for Trump and Pence would encourage Vice President Pence to reject the certified Biden-Harris electors’ votes regardless of the result of any legal challenge.&#8221;

Mayes noted that none of the legal challenges brought forth in the state were successful and said that &#8220;when combined with the six other states where Republican electors sent in uncertified votes for Trump-Pence, the defendants wanted Pence to declare Mr. Trump the outright winner of the election or to send the vote back to friendly legislators that would have certified Trump-Pence as the winner of the election.&#8221;
&#8220;That scheme failed when Vice President Pence upheld the rule of law and accepted all certified Biden-Harris votes on January 6, 2021,&#8221; she added. &#8220;A state grand jury made up of everyday regular Arizonans has now handed down felony indictments for all 11 Republican electors as well as several others connected to this scheme. These charges include fraud, forgery, and conspiracy. These charges are class two, four and five felonies. These are serious indictments.&#8221;

The former president&#8217;s daughter-in-law, RNC Co-Chair Lara Trump, <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ueJ8b-ix3M" target="_blank" rel="noopener">spoke on Sunday</a> with Fox News anchor Maria Bartiromo along with RNC Chairman Michael Whatley about how they are pressing forward after a reported $50.5 million draw at the fundraiser, a figure that almost doubles the amount President Joe Biden&#8217;s campaign said it <a href="https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/biden-raises-record-26-million-at-star-studded-new-york-campaign-event" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised at a glitzy New York event</a>, a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michael-whatley-lara-trump-elected-to-lead-rnc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">month into their tenure</a>.

The Associated Press <a href="https://apnews.com/article/trump-republican-party-fundraising-fc057119f3bb5cb2a34a00ccd93fbb13" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the $50.5 million figure reported by Donald Trump&#8217;s re-election campaign from a donor event in Palm Beach, Florida, would be a single-event record that far outmatch Biden&#8217;s the $26 million said to be raised at a recent event at Radio City Music Hall in New York that featured celebrities and former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton.
In the days prior, data <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/04/03/trump-rnc-raised-65-6-million-march-00150300" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> by POLITICO <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-rnc-posts-impressive-fundraising-haul-in-march-but-remain-far-behind-bidens-war-chest" target="_blank" rel="noopener">showed</a> Trump and the RNC gathered $65.6 million in March and had $93.1 cash on hand by the end of the month. Those may be strong numbers, but a good deal of money is going toward <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/21/us/politics/trump-legal-bills-rnc.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Trump&#8217;s legal bills</a> as he tries to fight off criminal and civil cases. And overall, they would appear to be lagging behind the Biden campaign, which <a href="https://www.politico.com/news/2024/04/06/biden-campaign-march-fundraising-90-million-00150868" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that it raised $90 million in March and had $192 million on hand.
Whatley said funds raised will be allocated to &#8220;core missions&#8221; for the RNC, which he described as &#8220;getting out the vote and protecting the ballot. He added, &#8220;We&#8217;re going to make sure that we are focusing on the battleground states and districts where we need to be competitive and making sure that every dollar that we raise is going to be putting lead on target.&#8221;

On Tuesday, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/republican-national-committee-rnc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Republican National Committee (RNC)</a> launched a website that is a nod to former President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> predicting a &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; for the United States if he does not win a second term in the 2024 election — comments that drew controversy because legacy media coverage downplayed how he was talking about the auto industry.
The <a href="https://bidenbloodbath.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>, BidenBloodbath.com, is focused on highlighting the &#8220;horrors&#8221; of the border crisis under the leadership of President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a>, <a href="https://www.gop.com/press-release/rnc-launches-bidenbloodbathcom/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to the RNC</a>. A statement said the website provides the &#8220;latest data&#8221; and &#8220;real-time messaging&#8221; to activists who sign up for updates. It also features subpages with statistics for various battleground states and a link to a fundraising page that says &#8220;Biden Bloodbath&#8221; in all caps.
&#8220;Biden is allowing vicious criminals, illegal drugs, gangs and terrorists into the United States. He alone has the power to reverse course and secure our border to protect our communities, yet he refuses to take action,&#8221; said Trump campaign spokesperson Danielle Alvarez. &#8220;Biden is prioritizing illegal immigrants over Americans. That’s why in November, we will vote to send President Donald J. Trump back to the White House to put an end to Biden&#8217;s border bloodbath.&#8221;
The move comes weeks after Lara Trump, the former president&#8217;s daughter-in-law, and Michael Whatley <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/michael-whatley-lara-trump-elected-to-lead-rnc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">were elected</a> to lead the RNC after Ronna McDaniel announced she would be stepping down as chairwoman. It also follows polling from Gallup that showed immigration <a href="https://news.gallup.com/poll/611135/immigration-surges-top-important-problem-list.aspx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rose to the top</a> of the list of what Americans view as the most important problem facing the United States.
Last month, legacy media outlets <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/complete-propaganda-media-and-biden-campaign-blasted-over-coverage-of-trumps-bloodbath-prediction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">faced blowback</a> for highlighting Trump&#8217;s warning of a &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; if he does not win re-election with headlines that failed to mention he was talking about the auto industry. Biden&#8217;s campaign <a href="https://twitter.com/BidenHQ/status/1769163262283706801" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released a statement</a> on the &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; remark without a single mention of cars but repeated mentions of violence, alleging Trump &#8220;wants another January 6.&#8221;
“The Fake News Media, and their Democrat Partners in the destruction of our Nation, pretended to be shocked at my use of the word BLOODBATH, even though they fully understood that I was simply referring to imports allowed by Crooked Joe Biden, which are killing the automobile industry,” Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-slams-fake-news-media-after-spin-on-auto-industry-bloodbath-prediction" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> on his Truth Social platform. “The United Auto Workers, but not their leadership, fully understand what I mean.”

Biden&#8217;s campaign also <a href="https://www.youtube.com/shorts/qbj5e0pea1I" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released an ad</a> that featured Trump&#8217;s &#8220;bloodbath&#8221; comment — again without context — with dramatic music as well as clips related to the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/confederate-monuments-at-center-of-deadly-unite-the-right-rally-to-come-down" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Unite the Right&#8221; rally</a> in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017 and the U.S. Capitol breach on January 6, 2021.
&#8220;The Trump campaign can try to spin all they want, but the context is clear: their candidate has spent every moment since his first campaign encouraging and excusing political violence. Repeatedly,&#8221; said Biden campaign spokesperson Sarafina Chitika, <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/03/18/biden-trump-bloodbath-2024-campaign" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to Axios</a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s not a bug, it&#8217;s a feature of Donald Trump&#8217;s extremism. RNC Unveils ‘Biden Bloodbath’ Website Highlighting Border Crisis

Just months before the state could play a crucial role in the 2024 election, the Michigan Republican Party is in turmoil.
Republicans in Michigan — a state the GOP nominee for president in 2024 will rely on for a much-needed boost to take down President Joe Biden — are divided on who exactly is running the state party at the moment. Earlier this month, committee members from the Michigan GOP <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/group-of-michigan-gop-committee-members-vote-to-oust-state-party-chair-she-says-they-have-no-authority-to-remove-her">gathered for a special meeting to vote</a> on the removal of party chair, Kristina Karamo. Nearly 90% of those attending the special meeting voted to oust Karamo as she faces criticism for her fundraising strategy, failing to address the party’s debt, and surrounding herself with questionable advisers.
But Karamo is refusing to step down. She holds that those who voted to remove her have no authority to do so. And Karamo’s supporters continue to fight the rest of the state party, claiming she remains the rightful leader of the Michigan GOP.

Meanwhile, the faction of Michigan Republicans who voted to oust Karamo chose Peter Hoekstra, a former congressman and Ambassador to the Netherlands under Trump, to replace her as party chair.
Hoekstra boasts the endorsement of Trump, his former boss, as he seeks to unify Michigan Republicans around him and move on from Karamo. Lawyers for the Republican National Committee chimed in on the crisis last Wednesday, writing that they had conducted an “initial review” of the fight over state chair and found that “Karamo was properly removed in accordance with the MI GOP bylaws.” The RNC lawyers, however, said their determination was not a final ruling and could change if additional information is provided, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news/michigan-gop-chair-karamo-was-properly-removed-from-position-national-republican-party-says/">reported</a>. The RNC later removed Karamo’s name and photo from its <a href="https://gop.com/about-our-party/rnc-members/">website</a>, no longer recognizing her as state party chair.

In a phone interview with The Daily Wire last week, Karamo said the opposition to her and the battle over the state party chair has distracted Republicans from their “mission.”
“We need to be focused on the mission and not ourselves,” she said. “And that’s kind of been the problem in the Republican Party. I got involved in the party in college, and since that time in the party, I’ve watched Republicans cannibalize each other repeatedly because we’re radical individualists.”
Karamo also took jabs at Hoekstra during her conversation with The Daily Wire, calling him a “goofball” who is “wasting everybody’s time because he wants to throw his own weight around.”
“Even though the majority of the committee wants me as chair, Pete [Hoekstra] doesn’t care about that. He’s got a little faction. He’s got the money people behind him, and he’s just going to attempt to keep bullying everybody until he gets his way,” Karamo added.
Karamo’s claim that she still holds a majority of the support within the Michigan GOP is the crux of her argument to remain as chair. While many of the <a href="https://www.detroitnews.com/story/news/politics/2024/01/13/separate-michigan-gop-group-votes-to-keep-kristina-karamo-as-chair/72216510007/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">107</a> GOP committee members voted in favor of keeping Karamo during a gathering on January 13, those opposed to her leadership and the RNC’s lawyers hold that she was successfully removed from her position on January 6, making her special meeting a week later null and void.
The special meeting held on January 6 by those seeking Karamo’s removal saw 40 members of the committee vote to remove her, which represented 88% of those in attendance as many of Karamo’s supporters refused to attend the meeting. Karamo has since <a href="https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/karamo-demands-michigan-gop-foes-cease-and-desist-defaming-her" target="_blank" rel="noopener">threatened</a> to take legal action against the Republicans who say they have rightfully removed her as the state GOP chair.
The back-and-forth has sparked a civil war within the Michigan Republican Party as Karamo and her faithful followers argue that the effort to remove her was “illegal” while those who voted to oust Karamo, led by Acting Chair Malinda Pego, <a href="https://www.fox17online.com/news/local-news/michigan/kristina-karamo-faces-lawsuit-by-michigan-republican-party" target="_blank" rel="noopener">filed a lawsuit</a> against her and requested a temporary restraining order, seeking to force her removal. The anti-Karamo faction is seeking to have its position recognized either by the courts or by the Republican National Committee, hoping to bring back donors who jumped ship under Karamo, Hoekstra said, <a href="https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/michigan-gop-faction-sues-karamo-picks-hoekstra-replace-her" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to Bridge Michigan.
JD Glaser, the GOP chair for Michigan’s 5th District told The Daily Wire that Karamo’s removal perfectly followed the GOP’s bylaws.
“I would stake my entire reputation that the rules were followed precisely,” Glaser said. “There were several attorneys that worked on it, several parliamentarians that worked on it. Everyone made sure that everything was done exactly by the rules.”
Karamo, a former community college teacher, took over as party chair in early 2023 following her 2022 election loss in the secretary of state race to Democrat Jocelyn Benson. During her SoS campaign, Karamo aligned herself with Trump — who endorsed her — and focused on challenging the 2020 presidential results in Michigan, arguing that Trump won the state. While she came up short in her effort to win the SoS race, Karamo won the hearts of many conservatives in the state who viewed her as a rising star in the GOP.

Less than a year after taking control of the state party, however, the feelings toward Karamo have shifted among many conservatives, and Trump, who backed her run for SoS, wants a change. But not even a Trump endorsement of Hoekstra as Michigan GOP chair last Friday has seemed to faze Karamo in her attempt to stay at the party&#8217;s helm. Asked by Detroit News reporter Craig Mauger if Trump’s backing of Hoekstra changes her thinking, Karamo <a href="https://twitter.com/CraigDMauger/status/1751039124599963894" target="_blank" rel="noopener">responded</a>, “Absolutely not.”
For many of the committee members who oppose Karamo, the cracks within the Michigan GOP started to show months before the opposing meetings held on January 6 and 13. Michigan Republicans began to distrust Karamo after the former chair of the 9th district, Warren Carpenter, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/detroit/news/draft-report-alleges-michigan-gop-is-more-than-half-a-million-dollars-in-debt/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed</a> shocking info about the Michigan GOP’s financial instability.
In September 2023, the party had invited multiple high-profile speakers — such as actor Jim Caviezel — to be featured at the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, but there was one problem. The Michigan GOP couldn’t afford the speakers, so it took out a loan to cover Caviezel’s $110,000 speaker fee. The Mackinac event, which the party usually relies on for a huge fundraising haul, didn’t raise any money for the Michigan GOP. 
&#8220;We had a goal to raise money for that event, and unfortunately that did not occur,&#8221; Karamo <a href="https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/karamo-blames-deep-state-mackinac-fundraiser-drives-gop-deeper-debt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in October.
The party’s financial troubles continued as it went into debt and <a href="https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-government/bank-michigan-gop-defaulted-500k-loan-hasnt-made-payment-months" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defaulted</a> on a half-a-million-dollar loan. Soon, more committee members would voice their frustrations with Karamo, and it wasn’t just the party’s financial problems that had them worked up.

Five committee members of the Michigan GOP, including Carpenter, recently sounded alarm bells, telling investigative journalist Scott McMahan with <a href="https://biggertruthmedia.com/five-whistleblowers-expose-covert-operation-to-brainwash-christian-grassroots-in-effort-to-destroy-michigan-gop/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bigger Truth Media</a> that the controversy surrounding Karamo extends to those within her inner circle. According to the committee members who spoke to Bigger Truth Media, Karamo is being influenced by an operative named Mike Labadie, who was reportedly registered as a Democrat in California as recently as 2016 before he moved to Michigan and got involved with Republican politics.
Glaser told McMahan that, initially, he worked with Labadie on developing a curriculum for <a href="https://miprecinctfirst.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michigan Precinct First</a>, an organization Labadie created to help first-time precinct delegates who were elected in 2022.
Glaser said he became disillusioned after seeing how Labadie allegedly sought to exert control over those around him and alleged that Labadie created a cult-like environment surrounding Karamo.
“He’s the kind of person who doesn’t make himself known,” Glaser said, according to Bigger Truth Media. “He is really good at staying in the background. He chooses people after observing them. He’s very disciplined about it. He discards you if you don’t fit his profile.”
“That’s how he’s able to keep such control,” Glaser added.
Carpenter told Bigger Truth Media that he first met Labadie during Karamo’s secretary of state campaign. According to Carpenter, Labadie told him he “was sent here to recruit SoS candidates,” adding, “We have big plans for her,” speaking of Karamo.
“[Labadie] built her from nothing,” Carpenter said. “He was everything to her at her lowest point. He put her out there to run as secretary of state, became her number one confidante, ostracized everyone closest to her and for everyone he pushed out, he put new people in their place.”
Karamo told The Daily Wire that any claims surrounding Labadie’s control over her and the party are just “hearsay,” adding that “nobody” controls her.
Labadie did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry.
Whether Karamo is officially forced to hand over control of the party to her opposition or she continues her fight to remain as GOP chair is yet to be seen as the party waits for the court to weigh in on the issue.
Until then, the Michigan Republican Party has a lot to figure out before a vital 2024 election.

The chairman of the Arizona Republican Party, an ally of former President Donald Trump, resigned on Wednesday after audio emerged this week of him offering money to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kari-lake" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kari Lake</a> to stay out of the U.S. Senate race in the state. But in his statement of resignation, the now-former chairman suggested that Lake had acted nefariously.
Chairman Jeff DeWit called the secret audio recording from Lake &#8220;deceptive&#8221; and &#8220;a selectively edited audio recording of our private conversation.&#8221; He went on to suggest that Lake had &#8220;orchestrated&#8221; the exchange in an attempt to &#8220;have control over the state party.&#8221; Lake&#8217;s campaign responded in a statement to The Daily Wire by denying having &#8220;threatened or blackmailed&#8221; DeWit.
&#8220;The recording, from over ten months ago, is not only taken out of context but also undermines the integrity of private discussions critical for party leadership,&#8221; DeWit said in his <a href="https://twitter.com/AZGOP/status/1750234611890971064?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1750234611890971064%7Ctwgr%5E2f09447f34146f58caec836720ffc7549589fc75%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailywire.com%2Fnews%2Farizona-gop-chair-resigns-over-release-of-alleged-bribery-recording" target="_blank" rel="noopener">letter</a>, adding that at the time the recording was made, he was employing Lake at his private company.
&#8220;In fact, for over a year and a half we had many conversations where I was looking out for her financial interests,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;The ethical breach in her recording of our conversation, while Lake was my employee, raises serious legal and moral concerns. This act of recording was not just a betrayal of trust but also a violation of the fiduciary responsibilities of an employee. Contrary to accusations of bribery, my discussions were transparent and intended to offer perspective, not coercion. Our relationship was based on friendship, and the conversation that is now being scrutinized was an open, unguarded exchange between friends in the living room of her house. I genuinely believed I was offering a helpful perspective to someone I considered a friend.&#8221;
DeWit said that ever since he advised that Lake postpone her desire for elected office for another two years so she could run again for the state&#8217;s governorship, she has &#8220;been on a mission to destroy me.&#8221;
&#8220;The release of our conversation by Lake confirms a disturbing tendency to exploit private interactions for personal gain and increases concerns about her habit of secretly recording personal and private conversations,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This is obviously a concern given how much interaction she has with high profile people including President Trump. I question how effective a United States Senator can be when they cannot be trusted to engage in private and confidential conversations.&#8221;
DeWit said that he regretted some of the things that he said in the recording, but realized when he went back and listened to the tape that it was a &#8220;set up.&#8221;
&#8220;I believe she orchestrated this entire situation to have control over the state party, and it is obvious from the recording that she crafted her performance responses with the knowledge that she was recording it, intending to use this recording later to portray herself as a hero in her own story,&#8221; he said. &#8220;This morning, I was determined to fight for my position. However, a few hours ago, I received an ultimatum from Lake&#8217;s team: resign today or face the release of a new, more damaging recording.&#8221;
&#8220;I am truly unsure of its contents, but considering our numerous past open conversations as friends, I have decided not to take the risk,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I am resigning as Lake requested, in the hope that she will honor her commitment to cease her attacks, allowing me to return to the business sector&#8211;a field I find much more logical and prefer over politics.&#8221;
DeWit noted in his statement that he was a &#8220;proud supporter&#8221; of Trump and had worked as &#8220;the COO &amp; CFO of his 2016 campaign, served in his Administration for two years, and returned as the COO of the 2020 campaign.&#8221;
In response to DeWit&#8217;s satement, the Lake campaign told The Daily Wire, &#8220;The tape speaks for itself: The Arizona GOP Chairman Jeff DeWit attempted to bribe Kari Lake. Thankfully Kari is an extremely ethical person who rejected DeWit’s multiple attempts to offer her money and corporate board seats in exchange for Kari not running for public office. She will be an incredible Senator for Arizonans. No one from the Kari Lake campaign threatened or blackmailed DeWit. It is unfortunate that Dewit hasn’t recognized how unethical his behavior was and still hasn’t apologized to Arizona Republicans. DeWit’s false claims are just par for the course. The Arizona GOP must be relieved to have his resignation. Now we can focus on getting ethical leadership and win big in 2024.&#8221;

Law enforcement officials in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/florida" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Florida</a> will not charge former state Republican Party chairman Christian Ziegler with rape after conducting a months-long investigation.
Florida Republicans stripped Ziegler of his authority and reduced his salary to $1 last month after he refused to resign following accusations that he raped a woman last October. In an emergency vote earlier this month, they voted 199-3 to oust him, which comes after Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and other top Florida Republican officials had called on him to resign.
The Sarasota Police Department said that after an extensive investigation, they concluded that the sexual encounter &#8220;was likely consensual.&#8221;
&#8220;Therefore, detectives were unable to develop probable cause to charge Ziegler with Sexual Battery,&#8221; police <a href="https://www.sarasotapd.org/Home/Components/News/News/3519/5080?fsiteid=9#!/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on Friday.
However, police said that they are seeking a felony charge for Video Voyeurism against Ziegler &#8220;after conducting an additional follow-up interview with the victim and after showing the victim the video recording of the sex act&#8221; in which the victim &#8220;advised Sarasota Police detectives that she was unaware and did not consent to being video recorded.&#8221;
Police said that they prepared a probable cause affidavit for Video Voyeurism and forwarded it to the State Attorney’s Office for further review. Police said that Ziegler has cooperated with law enforcement throughout the investigation.

Ziegler attorney Derek Byrd said in a statement that “since day one, we have been confident Mr. Ziegler would be exonerated from these baseless allegations.”
“He has been completely honest, forthright, and has been fully cooperative with law enforcement at every stage of this investigation,” Byrd said. “While we are disappointed that the Sarasota Police Department ‘punted’ the decision on the remaining portion of the case to the State Attorney’s office, we strongly believe that the State Attorney will not prosecute Mr. Ziegler for any crime.”

The Florida Republican Party voted on Monday to elect Evan Power as the party&#8217;s new chairman after members overwhelming to remove Christian Ziegler from the position following a police investigation into a rape allegation.
Power, who was the party&#8217;s vice chairman, filled in for Ziegler after party members voted last month to strip him of his powers and reduce his salary to $1.
&#8220;We have to build that trust back long-term,&#8221; Power said. &#8220;I think we have to do is go to our larger donors right now to ask for their help and assistance. And we can build that trust back because we can prove we are bigger than one person. We moved on as fast and as efficiently as we could. And now we are here in a new chapter and [with] a new chairman.&#8221;
Highlighting the successes of the Florida GOP under Governor Ron DeSantis, Power said that Republicans have experienced record turnout and have flipped seats all the way down to the school board-level.

In an emergency vote on Monday, members <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/florida-gop-removes-party-chairman-amid-rape-accusation">voted</a> 199-3 to oust Ziegler which comes after DeSantis and other top Florida Republican officials had called on him to resign.
Police in Florida are also investigating whether Ziegler recorded the alleged incident, which could constitute video voyeurism, a third-degree felony in Florida. Zeigler, who has not been charged, and his attorney allegedly showed the video to law enforcement with the belief that it proved that the interaction was consensual.
Attorney Bryant Camareno, who is not involved in the case, told local media that showing the video to law enforcement could be proof of a different crime.
“I think number one, it may show that there was consent to have sex,” he said. “Number two, it may show that she knew that she was being recorded, but number three, if he sent it to her with the intent of harassment then that may be another crime which is cyberstalking.”
Ziegler and his wife, Bridget Ziegler, reportedly admitted to police that they previously had a consensual sexual relationship with the woman who made the rape accusation.
The alleged incident occurred on October 2, 2023, when the accuser, Christian Ziegler, and Bridget Ziegler allegedly agreed to have “a sexual encounter,” according to police documents.
When the accuser learned that Bridget Ziegler would not attend, she allegedly changed her mind and cancelled the encounter with Christian Ziegler.
“On 10/02/23, the victim opened her apartment door to walk her dog and Christian was standing outside in the hallway,” the police search warrant says. “Christian entered the apartment, bent the victim over the bar stool and” raped her.
