Bill Maher says “woke” Hollywood may nominate him for awards, but insists they’ll never actually give him one because he doesn’t play by their rules.
The 69-year-old comedian <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1&amp;v=xMwFeeKvwno&amp;embeds_referring_euri=https%3A%2F%2Fnews.dailywire.com%2F&amp;source_ve_path=MjM4NTE">said</a> as much during an episode of “Club Random” that was filmed before the Golden Globes on Sunday. 
“I’ve been nominated for 33 Emmys, and they would never give it to me,” Maher told his guest, Joel Edgerton. “That’s not a gag number. That’s a real number. It’s crazy.” He went on to list all the things he’s been nominated for in various categories. 
“Obviously, it’s something I said. Well, it’s everything I said,” he joked. “Because I speak freely. And this woke town f*cking hates that. And that’s okay. I’ve made my peace with that.”
If by “some miracle,” he received an award, he said, “I really should be shocked.”
Maher was nominated on Sunday for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television. He lost to fellow Hollywood outcast Ricky Gervais.
Gervais, who is well known for his iconic no-hold-barred, celebrity roasting monologue at the 2020 Golden Globes ceremony, won a coveted statuette Sunday night for his Netflix special, “Morality.”
The 64-year-old comedian was not in the audience to accept his award, but later posted about it on X, writing, “I f*cking won. Again.”

All the Hollywood celebrities are out and showing their absolute rage — but not at the Iranian government mowing people down in the streets.
As cataclysmic events take place in Iran, with apparently hundreds or thousands of protesters being shot to death, a number that has even been estimated to be 10,000, it’s good to know the folks in Hollywood have their priorities straight. 
The Golden Globes were held on Sunday night, providing an opportunity for members of the Hollywood contingent — who prize their pseudo-morality over everyone else&#8217;s — to make a stand.
After all, they&#8217;ve made stands on issues as far back as Tibet in the 1990s (which they conveniently have now forgotten all about).
Remember when last year, a bunch of Hollywood celebrities pranced around like fools, claiming that a genocide that was not happening was, in fact, happening, and criticized the State of Israel for defending its own existence. 
This year, they have a different cause because, hey, new day, new cause. Now, what could that cause be?
The cause of the Iranian people who are out in the streets risking their own deaths to defy the mullahs? The people of Iran, many of whom are secular and westernized in their attitudes toward the state? Are those the people toward whom Hollywood directs all of its sympathies? Are they sparing a moment for those people?

Hollywood put on a show at the Golden Globes, and everything was about ICE and LGBTQ and Bari Weiss taking over CBS, because, you see, these are the real threats. 
According to people in Hollywood, you should have your eyes focused like a laser beam on the predations of ICEt enforcing the law with regard to illegal immigration and deporting people for welfare fraud.

It is an act of bravery to stand up at the Golden Globes and virtue signal on behalf of the LGBTQ+- community.
So last night, a bunch of celebs showed up and decided — as our Moral Guideposts, the lodestars of our civilization — that the chief things you need to worry about as an American are ICE, LGBTQ+-, and Bari Weiss.
Hostess Nikki Glaser began the evening by going after the most deserving target, who deserved her absolute rage: Bari Weiss and CBS News.
Mark Ruffalo showed up and said it was hard to pretend anymore that we don&#8217;t live in a “dictatorship.”
Thus saith the man who wears a tux at the Golden Globes and gets paid millions of dollars to play the same character that he has played in every other miniseries and movie for the last two decades.
“We have a woman, Renee Good, was murdered in our streets of America today, and we got literally stormtroopers running around terrorizing. And as much as I love all this, I can&#8217;t. I don&#8217;t know if I can pretend like this crazy stuff isn&#8217;t happening. It&#8217;s so hard to pretend anymore,” he complained.
It&#8217;s hard for him to pretend? He’s an actor.
This is a person who spent the last two years basically standing on behalf of terrorist groups in the Middle East. But it&#8217;s very hard for him to pretend that there aren&#8217;t “stormtroopers” wandering the streets.
You know what&#8217;s cool about being able to say that sort of thing? There aren&#8217;t stormtroopers wandering the streets — because throughout history, when there were stormtroopers wandering the streets, celebrities didn&#8217;t get to go on camera and talk about how there were stormtroopers wandering the streets.
In fact, there are many places on Earth where the stormtroopers do wander the streets. For example, Iran, where there are stormtroopers shooting people in the head for protesting.
Did Ruffalo have a word for them?
Nope. He had a little pin that read, “Be Good,” referencing Renee Good.
Hollywood always seems to pick the side that opposes law enforcement or opposes the West.
“The guy’s a convicted felon or convicted rapist. He&#8217;s a pedophile,” Ruffalo said of President Trump. “He&#8217;s the worst human being. If we&#8217;re relying on this guy&#8217;s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we&#8217;re all in a lot of trouble. So this is for her. This is for the people in the United States who are terrorized and scared today. I know I&#8217;m one of them. I love this country. And what I&#8217;m seeing here happening is not America.”
He slandered the president of the United States as a pedophile, called him the worst person in the world, for, among other things, extraditing Nicolás Maduro — a Marxist dictator responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands and probably hundreds of thousands of people and the exile of literally millions of people. That, to Mark Ruffalo, is a big moral problem.
Not a word to spare for the millions marching in the streets in Iran right now, thousands of whom are getting mowed down by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps.
Ariana Grande also showed up wearing her ICE Out pin, the new hot thing in Hollywood.
Frankly, any amount of weight added to her garment puts her at risk of falling over.
Wanda Sykes showed up to talk about LGBTQ+-, saying, “You know, there&#8217;s some people pissed off that a queer black woman is up here doing the job of two mediocre white guys.”
This is where Hollywood puts its priorities. There are people on earth literally putting their lives at risk, their bodies on the line for their own freedom.
And Hollywood has nothing to say to them. Nothing.
Are you seeing protests on campuses in favor of the Iranian people right now? Have you seen a single protest?
You have not.
Have you seen a single mass protest by all of these international-law-loving, human rights-adoring left-wingers, the Zohran Mamdani wing of the Democratic Party, in favor of the protesters in Iran, who simply want their horrifying theocratic regime gone?
You have not.
Have you seen a single comment from Democrats, beyond a kind of “thoughts and prayers?”

The host was seemingly referencing the redacted 30,000 documents related to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein released by the Justice Department just days before Christmas.
&#8220;And the award for most editing goes to CBS News,&#8221; the comedian added as the audience laughed and applauded. &#8220;Yes, CBS News, America&#8217;s newest place to see BS news. We needed another.&#8221;

Glaser’s comments come one week after anchor Tony Dokoupil began hosting &#8220;CBS Evening News&#8221; and months after the network welcomed Weiss, the new Editor-in-Chief, who formerly worked at The New York Times and founded The Free Press. Weiss was offered the job by David Ellison, the founder of Skydance and Paramount&#8217;s chairman, following a merger.

“They are ladies, look at their pronouns. What about this person isn&#8217;t a lady?” Gervais said before providing the response, “Well, his penis.”
Gervais said during an <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/focus/ricky-gervais-comedy-walk-of-fame-star-1236408958/">interview</a> with Variety in May that he “likes that people feel slightly uneasy” when he makes a joke. “I can justify anything. I’m never that brutal. It just seems like it.”

It’s a familiar refrain from the Hollywood set: characterize federal agents as &#8220;rogue&#8221; while ignoring the complex, often dangerous realities of immigration enforcement.
Jean Smart, fresh off a win for Hacks, took the stage to lean into the &#8220;citizen and mom&#8221; defense. While acknowledging that the public finds celebrity politicking &#8220;annoying,&#8221; she couldn&#8217;t resist. Smart said, “I feel like we’re kind of at a turning point in this country. I hope people can keep their heads because that’s actually, really the hardest thing, I think, is to keep our heads. It’s going to take a lot of courage and concerns, but I think that’s important.”
“I know that there are people who find it annoying when actors take opportunities to talk about social and political things, but I’m not here right now speaking as an actor. I’m here speaking as a citizen and a mom, and I hope people understand that,” she continued.
She urged the audience to &#8220;do the right thing&#8221; — a vague platitude that, in the context of her &#8220;ICE OUT&#8221; pin, clearly meant opposing the administration’s mandate.
Backed by the ACLU and various leftist &#8220;grassroots&#8221; organizers, these stars utilized their platforms to cast ICE as a source of &#8220;chaos.&#8221; As usual, the gala served as a reminder that for Hollywood, &#8220;being good&#8221; is synonymous with being anti-Trump, regardless of the facts on the ground.

Comedian Nikki Glaser, who is hosting the Golden Globes again this year, said the audience would be too clueless to understand jokes about the situation in Venezuela.
The stand-up performer has given several interviews about how she plans to approach her monologue after receiving generally positive reviews last year. Glaser said she’s been trying out jokes in local bars and has noticed that bits about current events aren&#8217;t landing.
“You can’t even anticipate things a week away as being relevant enough,” she said during an<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nikki-glaser-golden-globes-host-interview-jokes-c7f0a605e1b06b92447cd213a5fd619e"> interview</a> with the Associated Press. “You’d be surprised that half the room had no clue why I was saying ‘Venezuela.’ People aren’t getting the news like we all are.”
The comedian also said she plans to avoid roasting a particular celebrity due to poor reception.
&#8220;I&#8217;m trying out my monologue around L.A. at the clubs here and just even any joke about Julia Roberts, they are not there for,&#8221; she told Gayle King during an<a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/comedian-nikki-glaser-host-golden-globes/"> interview</a> on CBS. &#8220;You cannot make fun of America&#8217;s sweetheart. Whatever I end up saying about her, that is the most fine-tuned joke that I&#8217;ve worked on so hard, because it is very delicate.&#8221;
&#8220;I mean, they were booing, and I was like, ‘Is she here?’&#8221; Glaser said. &#8220;It&#8217;s insane.&#8221;
Roberts is up for Best Actress in a Drama for her leading role in “After the Hunt.”
“I’ve been running the jokes constantly,” she told the AP. “I live and die by those crowds. They really tell me what to keep and what not to. Things that I think will kill will just be nothing and things that I think are just a throwaway are like the best joke.”
Glaser revealed one joke she ditched.
“I was going to make a joke about ‘Pluribus’ where I said like, ‘Have you seen it? Pluribly not.’ But we could not find a place for ‘pluribly not’ and so that one is in the graveyard. Probably rightfully so.”
As for her overall strategy for hosting the Golden Globes, Glaser said she wants it to be entertaining and edgy without offending anyone. 
&#8220;You have to be very delicate about making jokes that aren&#8217;t going to ruin anyone&#8217;s night, but you also want to give the people at home something to laugh at, and you want to poke fun at the people that they&#8217;re dying for you to make fun of,&#8221; she told King. &#8220;Like people at home want you to make fun of the A-listers.&#8221;
&#8220;They want you to make them feel a little bit uncomfortable,&#8221; Glaser said. &#8220;So, it&#8217;s covert in the sense that I want to get away with those jokes without just ruining the vibe in the room. So, it&#8217;s really strategic, and it&#8217;s one of the most difficult jobs I&#8217;ve ever had is picking the perfect jokes.&#8221;
The 2026 Golden Globes will air live on Sunday, January 11, from 8-11 p.m. ET / 5-8 p.m. PT on CBS. The broadcast will also be available to stream on Paramount+.

The Golden Globes completely snubbed popular conservative and independent podcasts when nominations were announced on Monday for the newly-created category, Best Podcast.
Instead of including some of the most listened-to podcasts in the nation, the organization nominated mostly actors and comedians for the category. Nominees included “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard,” Alex Cooper’s “Call Her Daddy,” “Good Hang with Amy Poehler,” “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” NPR’s “Up First,&#8221; and “SmartLess” hosted by actors Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes.
Notable snubs include “The Joe Rogan Experience,” widely known to be the most popular podcast in the nation and a chart topper across Apple, Spotify, and YouTube. Other huge conservative podcasts left out include “The Ben Shapiro Show” and “The Megyn Kelly Show.”
Shapiro <a href="https://www.goldderby.com/tv/2025/ben-shapiro-interview-golden-globes-best-podcast/">discussed</a> being one of the 25 eligible podcasts for the nomination during an interview with Gold Derby last month. He said that in order for the country to unify, the other side needs to acknowledge the existence of conservatives.
&#8220;I do think that it is necessary for people to sit at the same table and at least acknowledge that we&#8217;re all Americans together. Because if we can&#8217;t even do that, it&#8217;s going to be very difficult to have a country together,&#8221; he told the outlet.
The Daily Wire host also noted how it was “really, really important” for podcasts to be recognized as a medium.
Per the Golden Globes, the goal of the new award is to celebrate excellence in podcasting by recognizing their &#8220;quality, creativity, audience engagement, and impact.” Besides shutting out every conservative and independent podcast, the organization did not nominate any true crime shows, and kept the far-Left podcast “Pod Save America” off the list as well.

Emmy-nominated roast comedian Nikki Glaser will once again host the Golden Globes awards show in January 2026 after she hosted this year’s show, receiving very positive reviews.
“Hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” Glaser said in a statement on Thursday to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/golden-globes-nikki-glaser-to-return-as-host-in-2026-1236162520/">The Hollywood Reporter</a> following the announcement from CBS and the Golden Globes.
“I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from ‘The White Lotus,’ who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past,” she added.
President of the Golden Globes, Helen Hoehne, added that, “Nikki Glaser brought a refreshing spark and fearless wit to the Golden Globes stage this year. Her sharp humor and bold presence set the tone for an unforgettable night, making the ceremony feel vibrant and most of all fun.”
Despite Glaser’s praise as host, the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/golden-globes-host-roasts-stars-for-trump-re-election">Golden Globes</a> actually saw a slight drop in ratings from the previous year, <a href="https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/golden-globes-2025-ratings-1236267097/">Variety</a> reported.
Nielsen showed a dip of two percent in the ratings for the awards show, with 9.3 million viewers, compared to the average of 9.4 million viewers the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/golden-globes-see-spike-in-ratings-for-first-time-since-2020">Golden Globes</a> brought in 2024.
Last year’s show was up 51 percent from when the show aired on NBC in 2023, when it drew an average of 6.25 million viewers — marking the second-smallest audience in the network’s 28 years of broadcasting the awards show, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tv-ratings-sunday-jan-7-2024-1235782200/">per Nielsen</a>. 
To put this year’s numbers in context, before the pandemic, the Globes averaged nearly 20 million viewers between 2008-2019, the <a href="https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2024-01-08/golden-globe-awards-9-4-million-viewers-cbs-robert-downey-jo-koy">LA Times</a> noted.

In a clip posted on <a href="https://x.com/goldenglobes/status/1876077747359088733">X</a>, the comedian/host called out the biggest members of Hollywood for not being persuasive enough to convince people who to vote for in the 2024 election, as the majority of stars had been very vocal supporters of the Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I am not here to roast you tonight,” Glaser told the crowd after pointing out that she’s known for being a comedian on roasts. “I want you to know that. How could I really. You are all so famous. So talented.”
“So powerful,” she added. “I mean you could really do anything. I mean except tell the country who to vote for. But it’s okay, you&#8217;ll get them next time. If there is one. I’m scared.”
Ahead of the award night, the comedian hinted at what her monologue would be about — and took the opportunity to warn viewers that she wasn’t going to be just like Gervais, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/im-not-ricky-gervais-golden-globes-host-promises-celebs-wont-be-offended-by-her-monologue">reported</a>.
In January 2020, Gervais hosted the <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCNdTLHZAeo">Golden Globes</a> and famously torched the stars, telling them, “So, if you do win an award tonight, don&#8217;t use it as a platform to make a political speech. Roast Comedian To Host Golden Globes Again

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ricky-gervais">Ricky Gervais</a> torched the winners of the 67th Grammy Awards who used their time on the show to give political speeches about things like DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion), transgender issues, and illegal immigrants. 
In the post on <a href="https://x.com/rickygervais/status/1886361303268094204">X</a> on Monday, the 63-year-old comedian and actor shared a screenshot of the message he gave celebrities in January of 2020 — when he last hosted the Golden Globes — and told stars,  “You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything.”
He captioned his post, “They’re still not listening.”

The producer and director later shared a <a href="https://x.com/gervaisclips/status/1885438197577941012">clip</a> from that unforgettable and brutal NSFW monologue he gave at his final turn hosting the Golden Globes. The monologue ended up going viral after he took a verbal sledgehammer to celebrities and big tech companies for their hypocrisy. In total, the “After Life” star has hosted the Globes five times.
To open the show, Gervais said it would be the last time he planned to host the Golden Globes or any other awards shows, sharing that he doesn’t “care anymore. I’m joking. I never did. NBC clearly don’t care either — fifth time. I mean, Kevin Hart was fired from the Oscars because of some offensive tweets — hello?”
He closed out the segment by telling stars not to use the platform to “make a political speech” noting that they weren’t in any position to “lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg.”
“So if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God, and f*** off, OK?” Gervais added.

I’m going to enjoy tonight because this may be the last time I get to host anything in this country.”
When Lady Gaga went up to accept the award for Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her “Die With a Smile” duet with Bruno Mars, she spoke about <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-signs-executive-order-protecting-kids-from-irreversible-gender-transition-procedures" target="_blank" rel="noopener">transgender issues</a> following Trump’s signing of an Executive Order that makes it crystal clear, the United States only recognizes two genders, a male and female.
“Trans people are not invisible. Trans people deserve love,” the singer said. “The queer community deserves to be lifted up. <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/t/music/">Music</a> is love.”
Shakira was honored for Best Latin pop album and said, “I want to dedicate this award to all of my immigrant brothers and sisters in this country. You are loved, you’re worth it and I will always fight for you.&#8221; Her comment was in reaction to Trump&#8217;s crackdown on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/illegal-immigration" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegal immigration</a>.
Near the end of the show, singer Alicia Keys was honored with the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, and claimed that &#8220;DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) &#8220;is not a threat, it’s a gift. And the more voices, the more powerful the sound.” Trump and numerous corporations across the country have opted to get rid of their <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/target-rolls-back-dei-joining-other-major-companies-like-walmart-meta" target="_blank" rel="noopener">DEI programs</a>.

I try to keep abreast of the various movies that are nominated for the Best Picture Oscar, even though there hasn&#8217;t been a solid winner in the Oscars for years at this point. 
This year, the frontrunner is a movie titled “Emilia Pérez,” which was nominated for 10 Golden Globes. It won four.
It is one of the worst movies ever made. It is horrible in every way possible for it to be horrible.
I’m going to break down this review into a few categories. First, we&#8217;re going to go through the actual movie plot, the performances, and the music. Then, we&#8217;ll get to the blowback.
The premise of this unbelievably stupid, insulting, and morally vacuous film involves a gangland drug leader, played by Karla Sofía Gascón, who is a trans woman, which is to say, a man. In real life, Gascón identified as a male until his mid-forties. In 2018, at the age of 46, Gascón decided that he was, in fact, a she and decided to go through all of the various surgeries to make him look more like a her. 
I would say rather unsuccessfully.
In this particular story, Gascón plays a Mexican drug lord, the head of a deadly drug cartel who decides he does not just want to disappear, but also wants to become a woman. He&#8217;s apparently always wanted to be a woman. The lawyer he ropes into this game is Rita Mora Castro, played by Zoe Saldana, who will help the newly-named Emilia Pérez become a woman.
The basic premise of the film is reliant on one essential idea about life. If you don&#8217;t buy into this idea, the entire movie is actually quite evil. That idea is: If you cut off your genitals, this makes you a better person. The basic premise of the film is: If a genocidal, murderous drug lord wants to feel like a woman, undergoes many surgeries and hormone treatments, that person is to be treated as a feminist saint after emerging on the other side.
Without that crazy perspective, none of the movie works and the whole tale becomes rather sinister.

Now, you may be saying to yourself, this sounds like a comedy. If you watch the film as a comedy, it is uproariously funny, since none of it follows. It makes no sense. All the things that are supposed to be serious are hilarious. It is one of the most ridiculous movies ever filmed.
This drug lord is married to a character played by Selena Gomez, legitimately one of the worst actresses alive. Inanimate objects have more affect than Gomez.
The transgender woman&#8217;s lover, played by Adriana Paz, is a person named Epifania.
The drug lord’s wife and two children move to Switzerland with the drug lord’s money. Four years later, the drug lord, now a transgender woman, approaches the lawyer and says, basically, “I would like to get in touch with my kids again, so I&#8217;m going to pretend to be my cousin living in Mexico. I&#8217;m going to pay my ex-wife and the kids” — the wife thinks he&#8217;s dead at this point —  “to come live with me in Mexico.” Complications ensue because it turns out the wife has a lover. And not only that, but so does Emilia Pérez. At this point, he falls in love with a woman. 
All of this comes as the lawyer and Pérez decide that not only is it time for Pérez to return to Mexico as a woman, but it is also time for Pérez to become an extraordinarily high-scale public figure who uncovers all of the bodies of people murdered by drug cartels. At no point, by the way, does this drug cartel leader actually apologize to anyone for having murdered humans.
Instead, this person just traipses around explaining that it&#8217;s very bad to kill people and bury their bodies in unnamed places and so on. By the end of the film, the drug cartel leader and his ex-wife have died in a car crash and the children now belong to the lawyer.
If you followed all of that, congratulations; either you have a screw loose, or you are great at following nonsensical plots.

All of this is accompanied by some of the worst music and performances in a film. In a musical, the music should be good, but in this musical, the music is just absolute sheer, unmitigated horror. It was written by Camille, a French singer, and Clément Ducol, a French film composer. It&#8217;s absolutely, horrifyingly bad. The lighting is terrible. The choreography is terrible.
At one point, Pérez goes into the bedroom of one of his children and lies down next to his child. They can&#8217;t fall asleep. And the kid tells him he smells like his father.
Well, yes; you&#8217;ve f***ed up that kid&#8217;s life beyond all recognition. First of all, you&#8217;re a drug lord. Second of all, you deprived that kid of a father so that you could play dress up.
And we&#8217;re supposed to be sympathetic to this person for some reason?
The lyrics are terrible in this scene. The dude smells like “mountains, leather coffee, spicy food, sugar, lamb on the fire, the engine, Diet Coke with lemon, ice, and sweat.” He also smells of “little stones warmed by the sun, mint, Mezcal, guacamole, dogs on car rides, cigarettes.”
Who wrote this? This whole musical was written by a person being hit in the head with a brick.
The end of the film is a parade with a statue looking like the Virgin Mary of this trans-woman, drug-cartel leader who engaged in mass murder, was never prosecuted for it, and betrayed his wife and children. But this person is a saint now, because that&#8217;s how the politics work here.
The whole musical turns on one fundamental moral supposition: If you are a person with gender dysphoria and cut off your genitals or have hormone surgery, this means all sins — past, present, and future — are wiped away. All of them. You can do anything to anyone at any time, and you are fully justified in doing so because you have found your identity.
This will be the worst Best Picture winner since “The Shape of Water,” although that’s a brutal decision, the &#8220;Sophie&#8217;s Choice&#8221; of bad movies decisions. Which do you pick? You&#8217;re on a desert island, and you only can watch one of these two movies for the rest of time. Which one?
The third option is to drown yourself.
Which may be preferable.
