Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) hit the back of another car on an interstate over the weekend, causing the driver of the other car to be treated at a hospital for their injuries.
The incident happened just before 8 a.m. on Sunday as the two were traveling in the area of I-70 and I-68 in Hancock, Maryland.
Local media reports said that Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse and that he struck the back of a Chevrolet Impala.
Fetterman and his wife, Gisele Fetterman, were both taken to a hospital to be treated for their injuries. The senator reportedly had a minor shoulder injury.
The driver of the Impala was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance to be treated for their injuries. No status update was available on the driver.
Police have not officially said what caused the car accident as the incident is currently under investigation.
&#8220;On Sunday morning, John and Gisele were involved in a car accident with another driver,&#8221; Fetterman&#8217;s office claimed in a statement, <a href="https://www.fox29.com/news/sen-john-fetterman-wife-involved-sunday-morning-crash-maryland">according</a> to FOX 29. &#8220;Out of an abundance of caution, they were evaluated at a local hospital. John was treated for a bruised shoulder and they were discharged that afternoon. They are doing well and happy to be back in Braddock.&#8221;
Fetterman has struggled with various health-related issues after he suffered a serious stroke in 2022, including crippling depression that led to him staying in a hospital.
During his campaign, Fetterman repeatedly refused to debate Dr. Mehmet Oz (R) as he sought to limit voters’ exposure to him following his stroke, which has impacted aspects of his cognition, hearing, and speech. He later debated Oz right before the election but did not perform well.
The Washington Post Editorial Board slammed his campaign at the time for “concealing from the public for two days after his stroke that he had been hospitalized.”
“It waited weeks longer to reveal a more complete picture of his medical history, including that he had been diagnosed in 2017 with cardiomyopathy. Mr. Fetterman had a pacemaker with a defibrillator implanted after the stroke. The campaign’s response to questions about Mr. Fetterman’s health is to point to a doctor’s note, released more than 14 weeks ago, which said ‘he should be able to campaign and serve in the U.S. Senate without a problem’ if he takes his medications and exercises.”
The Editorial Board said that Fetterman pointing to a 4-month-old doctor’s note was “not good enough” and that he “should release his medical records for independent review.”

Sen. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/john-fetterman" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Fetterman&#8217;s</a> (D-PA) wife was slammed on social media Friday after she revealed that the first thing she did after her husband was hospitalized with severe depression was flee the country to go on a vacation.
Fetterman checked himself into a hospital last week for a multi-week inpatient treatment regimen after the attending physician of the United States Congress recommended that he do so.
Gisele Fetterman, who lived <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-10-21/fetterman-s-wife-takes-history-as-undocumented-migrant-on-stump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">illegally</a> in the U.S. for more than a decade, said that she took the family to Canada for a vacation after leaving her husband in the hospital.

Gisele Fetterman faced intense criticism online over the move, which many said was indicative of narcissistic behavior.
Former Department of Education Press Secretary Angela Morabito tweeted, &#8220;She abandoned her husband in the hospital, took her kids to another country, and wants you to believe she&#8217;s inspirational.&#8221;
Michael Duncan of the Cavalry public affairs firm tweeted, &#8220;In any good prenup this behavior would immediately annul the marriage,&#8221; adding, &#8220;I still can’t believe [the tweet is] real, this is textbook malignant narcissist behavior.&#8221;
Seattle-based conservative radio host Jason Rantz tweeted: &#8220;Sen. John Fetterman’s (D-PA) wife brags about abandoning her husband in the hospital and fleeing the country on vacation while he battles severe depression.&#8221;

NBC News reporter Dasha Burns said last week that senior aides to Fetterman have indicated that &#8220;it’s been difficult to distinguish the stroke from the depression – saying it’s hard to tell at times if Fetterman is ‘not hearing you, or is he sort of crippled by his depression and social anxiety.’”
“A senior aide tells me both the staff and Fetterman himself were taken by surprise by the severe onset of depression,” she added. “The aide also says this hasn’t compromised his ability to do the job going forward, and he will be back to work once he has taken care of his mental health.”
The New York Times <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senator-fetterman-to-be-hospitalized-for-weeks-after-checking-himself-into-hospital" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> earlier this month that Fetterman was struggling with “serious mental health” issues and often cannot understand the words that others are saying to him following the stroke that nearly killed him last year.

Gisele Fetterman expressed concern for her own safety in the New Republic interview, saying, “Since entering the Capitol for training, my inbox has been completely filled with threats and horrible things. And that’s because I’ve been a non-top [sic] loop on Fox News. Hopefully it’s not like this forever … and hopefully it’s not like this for the next young Latina or person of color or spouse who enters this space.”
She brought up the attack on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband Paul: “I do feel safe, but then something will happen, and it shakes you … can this happen to me as well? The fact that there’s such a focus on the spouse is scary, and it’s creepy.”
Gisele Fetterman <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/3693481-fettermans-wife-calls-for-nbc-to-apologize-after-interview/">demanded an apology</a> from NBC News after NBC News’s Dasha Burns, having conducted an interview with John Fetterman, pointed out, “During some of those conversations before the closed captioning was rolling, it wasn’t clear he could understand what we were saying.”
