<a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/ginni-thomas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ginni Thomas</a> appeared before the January 6 Committee on Thursday, and while a number of left-leaning outlets were quick to report on her belief that the 2020 presidential election was &#8220;stolen,&#8221; they failed to include her opening remarks in their reports.
Prior to taking questions from the committee, Thomas delivered a statement preemptively and adamantly refuting the suggestion that her political opinions informed any decisions made from the bench by her husband, Justice <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/topic/clarence-thomas/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Clarence Thomas</a>.
Journalist Emily Miller detailed Thomas&#8217; statement in a thread on Twitter, noting that she had opened by <a href="https://twitter.com/emilymiller/status/1575639608481972224" target="_blank" rel="noopener">thanking the committee</a> for giving her time to recover from hip surgery and by <a href="https://twitter.com/emilymiller/status/1575639610700374017" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warning</a> the members that any 2020 election-related activities she had participated in had been &#8220;minimal and mainstream.&#8221;
Thomas then pivoted to address concerns about her husband, saying, &#8220;I am concerned that there may be more than a few questions about my husband&#8217;s work, which I do not believe is within the scope of this committee&#8217;s jurisdiction.&#8221;
She went on to explain that her personal involvement in politics and public policy predated her relationship with <a href="https://dailywire.com/news/offensive-disgusting-and-false-desantis-staffer-unloads-on-hillary-clinton-over-clarence-thomas-screed/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Justice Thomas</a>, whom she met in 1986.

Thomas went on to say that she had <a href="https://twitter.com/emilymiller/status/1575641438779740160" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not discussed</a> any of her activities related to the 2020 election — either before it happened or in the weeks and months after — with Justice Thomas. She also said that she had not been involved with any of the legal challenges that followed.
Thomas concluded with a direct dig at the committee, saying, &#8220;And I know he was completely unaware of my texts with Mark Meadows until this Committee leaked them to the press while he was in a hospital bed fighting an infection. Let me also add, it is laughable for anyone who knows my husband to think I could influence his jurisprudence — the man is independent and stubborn, with strong character traits of independence and integrity.&#8221;

George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley laid into the left&#8217;s recent calls to impeach Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, saying that they were indicative of a &#8220;raging impeachment addiction.&#8221;

Turley concluded by arguing that to allow the pursuit of impeachment with regard to Justice Thomas — on the grounds suggested by the left — would be to open the door for future justices to be impeached at will as the balance of power shifted.
&#8220;The calls for the impeachment of Justice Thomas are ludicrous but there is nothing laughable about the impeachment addiction fueling this frenzy. Impeaching Thomas based on these grounds would expose all justices to the threat of impeachments as majorities shift in Congress,&#8221; Turley said.

The latest attempt by Leftists to bring down Thomas involve texts his wife, Ginni, sent to then-White House chief of staff Mark Meadows following the 2020 presidential election. The 29 text messages were obtained by <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/03/24/virginia-thomas-mark-meadows-texts/">The Washington Post</a> and <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/virginia-ginni-thomas-clarence-wife-mark-meadows-texts-2020-election/">CBS News</a> last week and show that Ginni implored Meadows to continue investigating the results of the presidential election.
“Help This Great President stand firm, Mark!!!&#8221; Ginni reportedly said in one text. &#8220;You are the leader, with him, who is standing for America’s constitutional governance at the precipice. The majority knows Biden and the Left is attempting the greatest Heist of our History.&#8221;
“This is a fight of good versus evil,” Meadows reportedly wrote to Thomas on November 24. “Evil always looks like the victor until the King of Kings triumphs. Do not grow weary in well doing. The fight continues. I have staked my career on it. Well at least my time in DC on it.”
In January 2022, the Supreme Court blocked an attempt by former President Donald Trump to keep records from the House January 6 committee, which is investigating the riot that took place on that date in 2021 at the U.S. Capitol. Thomas was the only Justice to side with Trump on the issue, and the Women’s March is now using that to claim he needs to be impeached for his wife’s advocacy.
&#8220;The revelations that Ginni Thomas advocated for the overthrow of our democracy are disqualifying — not just for her as a human being of any decency, but for her husband Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas,&#8221; Women&#8217;s March executive director Rachel O&#8217; Leary Carmona <a href="https://twitter.com/jbendery/status/1507382730895597586">said in a statement</a> posted to Twitter.
&#8220;From the day he was nominated to the Court, Thomas has always acted less like a reasonable jurist and more like his wife — that is to say a professional conservative activist,&#8221; she added. &#8220;He is hopelessly compromised, conflicted, and corrupt, and he must be impeached IMMEDIATELY.&#8221;
This is simply the latest attack on Justice Thomas over his wife’s political advocacy. It was intended as a way for the “extended Thomas family” to keep in touch and update each other on their lives.
But Mayer, whose work often includes accusations with little support or that strain credulity (she is one of the authors <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/allegations-new-kavanaugh-accuser-was-so-dicey-joseph-curl">behind</a> the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/10-serious-problems-new-accusations-against-ryan-saavedra">dubious</a> Deborah Ramirez allegations against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh), created a story in which Ginni complained to the private listserv about former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss. Her complaints, according to Mayer and the Times, disgruntled some other members of the listserv and Ginni eventually apologized.
As Paoletta tells it, what Ginni actually did was “exemplary,” but the media “distorts it beyond all recognition into something nefarious and unethical.”
Here’s what actually happened in the distorted conversation, according to Paoletta:

And sometimes the smallest matters can divide loved ones for too long. Two former clerks responded separately to the former clerk’s January 17 email that was critical of what happened on January 6, but Ginni never responded to any of these emails. Six emails were exchanged between the three former clerks before a fourth clerk asked them to move the discussion off the listserv.
After that brief diversion, the listserv returned to what it was meant to do: Provide the current and former clerks a place to keep in touch and talk about their lives and families.
As Paoletta noted, Mayer also attempted to make Ginni’s participation in the listserv appear as an ethical breach for her husband, claiming Ginni was “advocating for things directly” to the clerks, even though nearly everyone on the listserv is a former clerk of Justice Thomas’ and nearly every conversation is about their families or professional updates.
