&#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; actress Kymberly Herrin has died at the age of 65 in her hometown of Santa Barbara, California, family members confirmed.
The model/actress, who is probably best known for her role in the blockbuster ghost-busting movie for seducing co-star Dan Ackroyd in the &#8220;Dream Ghost&#8221; girl role, died on October 28, the <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-11436355/Playboy-Playmate-Kymberly-Herrin-dies-65-family-asks-American-Cancer-Society-donations.html">Daily Mail</a> reported Wednesday. At the time of this publication, no cause of death has yet been released.
Herrin is also known for her work in several &#8217;80s blockbuster hit movies including the Patrick Swayze-led 1989 movie &#8220;Road House,&#8221; &#8220;Romancing The Stone&#8221; in 1984 alongside such stars as Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny DeVito and in Eddie Murphy&#8217;s &#8220;Beverly Hills Cop II&#8221; in 1987.
Herrin also appeared in several music videos by the band ZZ Top such as &#8220;Legs&#8221; in 1984, &#8220;Gimmie All Your Lovin&#8221; in 1983 and that same year in the rocking group&#8217;s &#8220;Sharp Dressed Man,&#8221; according to the movie site <a href="https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0380641/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1">IMDb</a>. The model was a former Playboy Playmate, too, having appeared on the magazine&#8217;s cover in September 1982.
The last acting role she&#8217;s credited with is from a role in &#8220;Squanders&#8221; in 1996, with most of her work taking place a decade before.

Her family said they are asking fans who want to recognize Herrin to donate to the American Cancer Society in her honor, according to her obituary in the <a href="https://newspress.com/herrin-kymberly-ellen/">Santa Barbara News-Press</a>. The actress was born and lived most of her life in the coastal town in Southern California.
Theresa Ramirez, the actress&#8217; niece, shared a touching photo on Facebook remembering her aunt and Kimberly&#8217;s two sisters who are also now deceased, the outlet noted.
&#8220;They are all together now,&#8221; Ramirez captioned her post. &#8220;[broken heart emoji] Aunt Kymberly Herrin [heart emoji]. I love you.&#8221;
She is reportedly survived by her two nieces, along with several nephews as well as numerous grandnieces and grandnephews.

&#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; director Ivan Reitman died on Saturday evening in his sleep at his home in California at the age of 75.
“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father, and grandfather who taught us to always seek the magic in life,” children Jason Reitman, Catherine Reitman and Caroline Reitman said in a joint statement, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/ivan-reitman-dead-d67947aa895371cd9f5840e6e9339440?utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=AP&amp;utm_source=Twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according to</a> the Associated Press.
“We take comfort that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless others around the world. While we mourn privately, we hope those who knew him through his films will remember him always,” the statement added.
Reitman was born in Czechoslovakia and raised in Canada, becoming known for his first major hit &#8220;National Lampoon&#8217;s Animal House,&#8221; that he produced in 1978.
He directed two early Bill Murray films, &#8220;Meatballs&#8221; and &#8220;Stripes,&#8221; to acclaim prior to his best-known hit &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; that he both produced and directed.
&#8220;Pulling in close to $229 million domestically, it was among the most successful comedies of its time; it spawned a franchise that included a hit 1989 sequel and two new-millennium installments (the second of which, 2021’s &#8216;Ghostbusters: Afterlife,&#8217; was directed by Reitman’s son Jason and reunited the surviving stars of the original film, with a producing credit for Ivan Reitman.)&#8221; Variety <a href="https://variety.com/2022/film/news/ivan-reitman-dead-dies-ghostbusters-director-1235180792/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
The movie was the second-highest grossing film in the U.S. in 1984 and ranked number one for seven straight weeks in theaters, according to Columbia Pictures. The popularity of &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; led to a franchise of sequels, television shows, and other spinoffs of the original blockbuster.
Following &#8220;Ghostbusters,&#8221; Reitman produced three comedies with Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had previously only been known for his action roles. The films included “Twins” (1988), “Kindergarten Cop” (1990), and “Junior” (1994).
Reitman also produced the beloved St. Bernard starred film &#8220;Beethoven&#8221; which became a well-known family-friendly franchise of films.
His 2009 co-produced film &#8220;Up in the Air&#8221; with his son Jason and Daniel Dubiecki was nominated for Academy Awards for best picture, best director (for his son Jason Reitman), best actor (George Clooney), best supporting actress (Vera Farmiga, Anna Kendrick), and best adapted screenplay.
The film also won several awards, including the British Academy Film Award for best adapted screenplay.
Reitman&#8217;s final work with &#8220;Ghostbusters: Afterlife&#8221; became a very emotional time for him.
“It was a very personal and sometimes tear-inducing experience,” Reitman told <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/ivan-reitman-dead-animal-house-ghostbusters-1235092959/">The Hollywood Reporter</a>. “The day that all three of them showed up for the first time and were just checking stuff out — it was just extraordinary; just feeling the vibe, not just for me, but I felt it in the crew and cast. ‘Ghostbusters’ Director Ivan Reitman Dead At 75

Paul Feig, who directed the all-female &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; reboot, is, apparently, still sore about the box office flop and, this week, blamed the film&#8217;s failure on &#8220;anti-Hillary&#8221; Clinton sentiment, at an all-time high in 2016.
&#8220;In a discussion with Julia Cunningham on &#8216;The Jess Cagle Show&#8217; on SiriusXM, Feig discussed the vocal negativity that arose following the casting of Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the leads of the film,&#8221; <a href="https://variety.com/2020/film/news/women-led-ghostbusters-anti-hillary-clinton-paul-feig-1234616801/">Variety reported Thursday</a>.
Feig is convinced the failure of &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; should be a case study in group sexism, he told the host.
“Some really brilliant author or researcher or sociologist needs to write a book about 2016 and how intertwined [our film was] with Hillary [Clinton] and the anti-Hillary movement,” Feig said. “It was just this year where everyone went to a boiling point. I don’t know if it was [having] an African-American president for eight years [that] teed them up or something, but they were just ready to explode… By the time, in 2014 or 2015, when I announced I was going to [make] it, it started.”
Feig then, of course, blamed President Donald Trump for igniting the sexist blaze. Trump famously opined on the all-female &#8220;<a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/yZ_ET4mhY0/?utm_source=ig_embed">Ghostbusters&#8221; in an Instagram video</a>, filmed in his Trump Tower office, well before he became president.
“They’re remaking Indiana Jones without Harrison Ford—you can’t do that!” shouted GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump said in the clip. “And now they’re making Ghostbusters with only women. What’s going on?!”
“It’s crazy how people got nuts about women trying to be in power or trying to be in positions that they weren’t normally in,” Feig added. “It was an ugly, ugly year.”
The all-female cast of &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; has been routinely critical of the film&#8217;s reception. Some of its stars, like comedian Leslie Jones, have often blamed Trump for the film&#8217;s failure and wondered aloud, largely on social media, about what might have happened to the Ghostbusters franchise in a world fairer to females.
The all-female &#8220;Ghostbusters,&#8221; though, wasn&#8217;t just a flop; it was an epic failure for Sony Pictures Entertainment.
<a href="https://variety.com/2016/film/news/ghostbusters-loss-sony-50-million-1201834911/">Variety reports</a> that the company is estimated to have lost more than $50 million in revenue from the failed &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; female film franchise &#8212; a number limited only by Sony&#8217;s partnership on the project with Village Roadshow, which absorbed an additional $25 million loss.
At one point, before original director Ivan Reitman&#8217;s son Jason Reitman moved in to help save &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; with a &#8220;sequel&#8221; of sorts, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which focuses on the world following &#8220;Ghostbusters II,&#8221; Sony Pictures was set to scrap the Ghostbusters franchise altogether, potentially launching an animated feature or a streaming cartoon after the company recovered from the sheer embarrassment of the all-female reboot.
“They will go the animation route now and do the best they can with that,” one source close to Sony&#8217;s internal discussion on the matter told Variety at the time. “I can’t imagine why they would even think about a live-action sequel.”
&#8220;Ghostbusters: Afterlife&#8221; will premiere in theaters in 2021.

All-Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Director: Film Failed Because Of ‘Anti-Hillary’ Movement

Ever since Jason Reitman teased that he would be &#8220;rebooting&#8221; the &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; franchise (yet again), social justice warriors who clamored to support the middling all-female &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; reboot from several years ago have been complaining about the decision. Now that a trailer has debuted, the anger has hit a fever pitch.
Reitman is the son of the original &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; director, Ivan Reitman, and his decision to jump start the &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; franchise after the disastrous 2016 effort came as a welcome surprise to Sony Pictures, which had all but written off &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; save for a possible cartoon television series or kids movie. A teaser dropped earlier this year, but a full trailer dropped this week.

The trailer isn&#8217;t being met with widespread applause, to be fair. &#8220;Ghostbusters: Afterlife&#8221; is a darker and, it seems, more serious turn for the series, and while it brings back familiar characters, it introduces a &#8220;new generation&#8221; of young Ghostbusters. The film is less in the vein of early 80s sci-fi comedy thrillers and more in the vein of 2010s straight-to-streaming properties, like &#8220;Stranger Things.&#8221;
It&#8217;s not a surprising turn of events for fans, who guessed at a &#8220;Stranger Things&#8221; style refresh months ago, especially in light of how modern filmmakers rebooted the Stephen King masterpiece, &#8220;It,&#8221; but it has critics a bit bewildered and concerned that the lighthearted, funny aspects of the franchise aren&#8217;t being embraced.
That said, there&#8217;s no one angrier about the trailer than social justice warriors who saw 2016&#8217;s all-female Ghostbusters as a win for diversity in filmmaking, even if the movie itself was pretty awful.
Leslie Jones, who starred in the 2016 remake, led the way, several months ago, comparing Reitman&#8217;s reboot to &#8220;something Trump would do,&#8221; likely implying institutionalized racism and sexism.
“So insulting. Like f*ck us. We [don’t] count. It’s like something Trump would do. (Trump voice) ‘Gonna redo ghostbusteeeeers, better with men, will be huge. Those women ain’t ghostbusteeeeers’ ugh so annoying. Such a dick move. And I don’t give f*ck I’m saying something!!”
Comic book and entertainment journalists held their fire until the trailer debuted.
James McMahon tweeted, &#8220;F**k that Ghostbusters trailer. You don’t reward regressive fanboys &#8211; many of whom created an atmosphere of racist, misogynist toxicity that led to a leading lady leaving this very platform &#8211; by MAKING THE VERY FILM THEY WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE.&#8221;
How dare film studios respond to audiences! They should be focused on social justice!
Oh, and how dare they respond to American values and make a movie in line with what parents who saw the movie in theaters in their youth might want, now that they get to share the Ghostbusters experience with their children.
&#8220;lmao of course Ghostbusters: Afterlife is about family and lineage and legacy and all these other fucking white patriarchal American values. It&#8217;s literally a reaction to the idea of 4 women, including one Black woman. The franchise must assert its &#8220;REAL&#8221; predecessor,&#8221; a social media feminist added.
At least one &#8220;fan&#8221; admitted that the trailer looks pretty good &#8212; but that they&#8217;d prefer the movie be terrible just to spite those who criticized the 201 film. &#8221; I love Ghostbusters 2016. And while I WANT to be excited for the new film (and Paul Rudd who is perfect, always) it&#8217;s hard to let go of the bitterness towards the REAL FANS that acted horrifically toward the last film, cast, crew and fans.&#8221;
Unfortunately for Reitman&#8217;s critics, it wasn&#8217;t just &#8220;white men&#8221; and &#8220;misogynists&#8221; who made 2016&#8217;s all-female Ghostbusters an epic disaster &#8212; it was audiences in general. <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ghostbusters-box-office-loss-sequel-unlikely-918515">The Hollywood Reporter noted in 2016</a> that the film was an epic loser for Sony Pictures studios, and the $70 million it lost likely meant Sony would have had to table any future plans for the franchise, even though it desperately wanted to make good on the Ghostbusters trademark, especially in light of a resurgence of 1980s nostalgia.
Reitman isn&#8217;t limiting his creative work on Ghostbusters to the upcoming film, so the mental angish may continue. He now owns a multi-media production company called Ghost Corps., and seems to be planning to turn the Ghostbusters &#8220;universe&#8221; into a multi-dimensional franchise for Sony the way Kevin Feig is doing with Marvel for Disney. A television series, &#8220;Ghostbusters: Ecto Force&#8221; is in the works for 2020.

As the secretive new &#8220;Ghostbusters 3&#8221; continues in the works, the franchise darling Bill Murray says he&#8217;s game for a new ride-around on the Ecto-1.
&#8220;This franchise paid for my son&#8217;s college,&#8221; Murry told <a href="https://www.indiewire.com/2019/05/bill-murray-ghostbusters-sons-college-cannes-2019-1202141338/">Indiewire</a> at the Cannes Film Festival this week. &#8220;We made this thing. We are the caretakers of it. It&#8217;s a great thing and it was a really fun movie to make. It&#8217;s a real movie with some really funny stuff in it.&#8221;
Murray added that his great connection to franchise was the wonderful relationships he made with the people involved and he never really had a relationship with the studio. &#8220;They&#8217;re wonderful people,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Danny [Ackroyd], Ernie [Hudson], Harold [Ramis], Rick Moranis, Annie Potts &#8212; they&#8217;re some of the coolest people and they had real careers. They treat people well. They really understand what it is to be a movie actor. It&#8217;s a complete collaboration.&#8221;
&#8220;The relationship you have with those people as collaborators is not necessarily the relationship I have with Sony,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;For years, they said, &#8216;We can&#8217;t make another &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; because Bill Murray won&#8217;t change the deal he made in 1984.&#8217; Well, no, I never did. And you know what? They made the movie. You&#8217;re the new guys, I&#8217;m the old guy. It was good enough for the other people so it&#8217;s going to have to be good enough for you.&#8221;
The actor who will forever be remembered as Peter Venkman expressed little interest in returning to a third &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; installment throughout the years but ultimately did end up with a cameo in the all-female version as a ghost skeptic named Martin Heiss. Murray told Indiewire he agreed to that due to his friendship with castmembers Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon.
&#8220;I was in that movie just because they asked me, and I knew if I said no, I was saying I didn&#8217;t support that movie,&#8221; Murray said. &#8220;I felt like, OK, I&#8217;m going to support them because I support them as people. So I did that one and I would do this next one.&#8221;
Murray added how things have changed in the big studio world where bosses are probably more focused on an actor&#8217;s Twitter followers than anything else.
&#8220;The big studio movies now have their own computer-generated way of doing things and formula that they use,&#8221; said Murray. &#8220;I think they really do crunch the numbers of how many Twitter followers we have, and all that stuff. I think that actually is a factor, but since I have no Twitter followers, I&#8217;m not a bankable person in their world. I&#8217;m a big negative on a movie.&#8221;

Unsurprisingly, the woke-scolds are deeply offended by the change of plans. Writing over at <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2019/01/16/jason-reitman-ghostbusters-3-sony-jumanji-star-wars-halloween-jurassic-world-box-office/#b359f0159429">Forbes</a>, entertainment reporter Scott Mendelson denounced Sony&#8217;s decision as placating &#8220;misogynistic trolls,&#8221; because apparently, incels in their parents&#8217; basement are to blame for the box office failure that was the 2016 feminist reboot.

While Mendelson certainly understands the economic benefits for Sony to give fans what they actually want from their beloved franchise, he ultimately feels the 2016 version got undercut by its bloated budget and would have profited nicely if Sony had let it run for $90 million. In fact, after watching the extended cut, he thinks the Melissa McCarthy version is every bit as good as the 1984 original. Worst of all, he fears that Sony may have unintentionally allowed the misogynists to do a victory dance.
&#8220;The idea of giving the most disrespectful &#8216;Ghostbusters&#8217; fanboys, like the ones who temporarily drove Leslie Jones off of Twitter, even a little of what they want is (unintentionally?) odious,&#8221; he writes.
Of course, the ghoulish trolls who cruelly harassed Leslie Jones on Twitter were a vocal minority, not the whole base of disgruntled &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; fans, and while Mendelson seems to somewhat understand that, he still believes that a great injustice has been done.
&#8220;I hate that this is happening. I hate that the misogynistic Ghostbusters trolls (and if that&#8217;s not you, then this isn&#8217;t about you) are getting what they want,&#8221; he concludes.

Another &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; reboot will be arriving at a theater near you in the coming future, and guess what, the <a href="https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1289401/?ref_=nv_sr_1">feminist remake from 2016</a> will be nothing more than a ghost of blunders past in this version.
According to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/jason-reitman-direct-new-ghostbusters-movie-1176512">The Hollywood Reporter</a>, director Jason Reitman, son of the original &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; director Ivan Reitman, has been working in secret on a coming &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; sequel that will hopefully feature the original cast (<a href="https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000601/?ref_=nv_sr_1">RIP Egon</a>) while continuing the saga.
&#8220;The filmmaker discreetly co-wrote a script with Gil Kenan, director of the animated movie &#8216;Monster House,&#8217; and the pic is set to go into production this summer with an eye on a 2020 release,&#8221; reports THR. &#8220;The whole project has been under a veil of secrecy; the code name it has been operating under has been &#8216;Rust City.'&#8221;
Unlike the box office bomb that was the 2016 remake, Sony Pictures says this new iteration will be &#8220;the next chapter in the original story&#8221; that will be a passing of the torch to a new generation. No indication has been made, however, if the original cast will be reprising their roles. According to the description of the new film, it will ignore the 2016 storyline. Reitman reportedly will be looking to cast four teens, two boys and two girls, for the new team.
Most likely, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson will be on board to reprise their roles as Stantz and Winston to shepherd the new &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; team into a new era of roasting gargantuan marshmallow men in lower Manhattan. The big question, however, will be if Bill Murray will return as Peter Venkman. He seemed less-than-enthused about such a reprisal during pre-production on the last &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; movie. In the end, he made a cameo in the feminist &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; remake as a ghost skeptic named Martin Heiss. Nobody liked it.
While (largely left-leaning) critics appreciated the 2016 all-female remake, the film failed to capture audiences and grossed a tepid $229 million worldwide, which seems pretty solid until factoring in marketing costs and its massive production budget of $144 million.
Starting with the release of its first trailer, the 2016 &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; immediately became a political hot topic when it broke records by becoming the most <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3ugHP-yZXw&amp;feature=youtu.be">disliked movie trailer on YouTube</a>. Today, it still holds 1.1 million downvotes versus just 305 thousand upvotes.
Even famed movie critic Richard Roeper agreed at the time that Sony made a bad decision to push an all-female cast with none of the original &#8220;Ghostbusters&#8221; in sight. Speaking on &#8220;<a href="http://adamcarolla.com/richard-roeper-2/">The Adam Carolla Show</a>&#8221; podcast, Roeper called the film a &#8220;<a href="http://chicago.suntimes.com/entertainment/ghostbusters-reboot-a-horrifying-mess/">horrifying mess</a>&#8221; while suggesting that film critics were less than honest when reviewing it. It scored 73% on Rotten Tomatoes while receiving a 57% audience rating and a 5.3 on IMDB.
&#8220;I feel like I have pretty conclusive evidence that the people who do the [film] reviews lean a certain way politically, and that&#8217;s fine,&#8221; Carolla said. &#8220;They tend to be more liberal.&#8221;
&#8220;When they take a movie like &#8216;Ghostbusters&#8217; and they put the all-female cast in there, I think they lean a little toward it. &#8216;Hey, this is empowering,&#8217; even if the movie itself wasn&#8217;t as good as they would have liked,&#8221; Carolla continued. &#8220;They tend to give it a nod because they feel like it&#8217;s a step in the right direction, or this is progress, or I wanna be on the happy side of history.&#8221;
Roeper agreed with Carolla&#8217;s assertions while citing that he was actually attacked as a sexist on social media for giving it a poor review.
&#8220;I think you&#8217;re absolutely right, whether subconsciously or not,&#8221; said Roeper. &#8220;I find it hard to believe that after having sat through that dreck, that three quarters of the critics out there really saw that as a fine example of a reboot of a pretty classic, legendary motion picture. It was just bad.&#8221;

New ‘Ghostbusters’ Movie In The Works. Nope, Not Feminist.

Good news, guys: It looks like there will not be a sequel to the social justice war-waging, <a href="http://www.dailywire.com/news/7504/ghostbusters-2016-review-racist-man-hating-john-nolte">man-hating</a> feminist Ghostbusters reboot, <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ghostbusters-heading-70m-loss-sequel-918515">according</a> to The Hollywood Reporter.

Despite chatter surrounding a potential sequel, and the clear opening provided at the end of the film, we will not have to endure another round of you-better-like-this-film-or-you&#8217;re-a-sexist type of press due to the costly film&#8217;s dismal performance at the box office. With Sony looking at an estimated $70 million in the hole, they will focus on crafting Ghostbusters animated spinoffs instead. 
Although film creator Paul Feig had high-hopes for the film, and the cast included some heavy star power, like Bridesmaids stars Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig, the overwhelming under-performance is apparently leaving Sony execs with no choice other than to nix a sequel. 
As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the film is underwater financially, desperately hoping to break-even as a best case scenario: &#8220;As of Aug. 7, Ghostbusters had earned just under $180 million at the global box office, including $117 million domestic. The film still hasn&#8217;t opened in a few markets, including France, Japan and Mexico, but box-office experts say it will have trouble getting to $225 million despite a hefty net production budget of $144 million plus a big marketing spend. The studio has said break-even would be $300 million.&#8221;
Sony is downplaying the box-office bombing, of course.
&#8220;We&#8217;re very proud of the bold movie Paul Feig made, which critics and audiences loved,&#8221; said one Sony rep. &#8220;It has enlivened a 30-year-old brand and put it into the modern zeitgeist. As a result, we have many ideas in the works to further exploit the Ghostbusters universe.&#8221;
The same rep suggested that the estimated $70 million loss was baseless: &#8220;This loss calculation is way off,&#8221; said the rep. &#8220;With multiple revenue streams, including consumer products, gaming, location-based entertainment, continued international rollout, and huge third-party promotional partnerships that mitigated costs, the bottom line, even before co-financing, is not remotely close to that number.&#8221;
Making matters stickier for Sony, McCarthy, Wiig and co-stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are apparently signed up for two potential Ghostbusters sequels. But again, this is more than unlikely. &#8220;Ghostbusters is on ice until further notice,&#8221; said Jeff Bock, a box-office analyst. &#8220;I just can&#8217;t fathom the creative talents behind it &#8212; Feig, McCarthy, Wiig, etc. &#8212; slogging out another one when the reception to the first one was so mediocre.&#8221;
Maybe this will be a lesson to the social justice left presiding in Hollywood who place agenda before their bottom-line, but don&#8217;t hold your breath. Instead, prepare for another studio to pick up Ghostbusters: The Transgender Reboot.

FINALLY! Some Good News About the Feminist ‘Ghostbusters’ Reboot.

We&#8217;ve been had. That &#8220;ghost&#8221; in the hit film Ghostbusters, Slimer, is not actually a ghost. Apparently he&#8217;s a &#8220;sassy,&#8221; loud-and-proud, &#8220;fluorescent homosexual beast&#8221; who gives grown men the courage to come out of the closet. Who knew?
In what has to be the strangest &#8220;coming out&#8221; story of all time, a blog posted Monday by Horace Richdale <a href="http://www.clickhole.com/blogpost/slimer-gave-me-courage-i-needed-accept-my-homosexu-3796?utm_campaign=default&amp;utm_medium=ShareTools&amp;utm_source=twitter">credits</a> the film Ghostbusters for giving the blogger the courage needed to come out to the world as a homosexual. Richdale explains how his life was forever changed by Slimer, who, at one point, is depicted as a &#8220;green, hairless teenager from space who loves eating garbage and is unabashed in his gayness.&#8221; Richdale adds that Slimer &#8220;flies around leaking his festive sour discharge wherever he goes, flaunting his queer identity.&#8221;
Richdale starts in by explaining that he saw Ghostbusters as a 28-year-old man back in 1984 and was amazed by the ghost, (hairless queer teenager), who made &#8220;no effort to cloak his homosexuality from a world that was hostile&#8221; toward his openly gay &#8220;lifestyle.&#8221; According to Richdale, the film is all one giant metaphor; the actual &#8220;ghostbusters&#8221; were trying to rid the world of Slimer, not because he was a ghost, but because Slimer was an &#8220;unabashed&#8221; gay and the &#8220;ghostbusters&#8221; were homophobic. Or something. 
&#8220;For this glowing, wailing orb to simply be himself in a culture with so much anti-homosexual hysteria, it must&#8217;ve taken an unfathomable amount of bravery&#8230;He was so sassy and fearless!&#8221; writes Richdale. &#8220;Instead of hiding or surrendering, he chose to confront his pursuers head-on, dousing one of the Ghostbusters in his lovely bodily gravy.&#8221;
The blogger recalls making serious gains in accepting his homosexuality, but says that it wasn&#8217;t until Ghostbusters II and multiple animated series of the movie came out that Richdale&#8217;s courage was nudged into high-gear, allowing him to fully come out as gay.

Richdale concluded that he was a happier man since the day he opened his &#8220;heart to slime,&#8221; and strongly suggested that &#8220;you do the same.&#8221;
