An Obama-appointed Manhattan federal judge denied the Trump administration&#8217;s request to unseal grand jury transcripts in the case against Jeffrey Epstein associate and convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, saying that move &#8220;would not reveal new information of any consequence.&#8221;
U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer ruled on Monday that the Trump administration did not make a compelling case to reveal grand jury testimony, which is kept secret to protect privacy, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/08/11/us-news/manhattan-judge-denies-trump-admin-bid-to-unseal-ghislaine-maxwell-grand-jury-transcripts/">reported</a>. In his decision, Engelmayer blasted the Justice Department&#8217;s argument for seeking to unseal the transcripts.
“Its entire premise — that the Maxwell grand jury materials would bring to light meaningful new information about Epstein’s and Maxwell’s crimes, or the Government’s investigation into them — is demonstrably false,” the judge wrote, according to <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/08/11/jeffrey-epstein-ghislaine-maxwell-trump-grand-jury.html">CNBC</a>.
“The Court’s review confirmed that unsealing the grand jury materials would not reveal new information of any consequence,” Engelmayer added.
The ruling is yet another setback for the DOJ in its effort to give the public more information about the Epstein case after backlash to the department&#8217;s conclusion that there was no evidence that Epstein kept a client list. In that decision, Judge Robin L. Rosenberg — another Obama appointee — said that &#8220;the Court&#8217;s hands are tied&#8221; as the law does not allow her to unseal the grand jury testimony.
Judge Engelmayer added in his decision that the Maxwell grand jury transcripts &#8220;do not contribute anything to public knowledge.&#8221;
“A member of the public &#8230; might conclude that the Government’s motion for their unsealing was aimed not at ‘transparency’ but at diversion — aimed not at full disclosure but at the illusion of such,” Engelmayer wrote. “Contrary to the Government’s depiction, the Maxwell grand jury testimony is not a matter of significant historical or public interest. Far from it. It consists of garden-variety summary testimony by two law enforcement agents.”
Maxwell, who recently agreed to sit down with the Justice Department and answer questions related to Epstein for two straight days, has been pushing for a pardon from President Donald Trump, as she also appeals her case to the Supreme Court. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 for her role in the Epstein scheme to sexually abuse and exploit minor girls. She is currently serving out a 20-year sentence and was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-moved-from-florida-prison-to-lower-security-facility">moved</a> to a lower-security prison shortly after her meeting with Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche.
Last week, Maxwell&#8217;s attorneys came out in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-opposes-doj-move-to-unseal-grand-jury-transcripts">opposition</a> to releasing the grand jury transcripts, saying, “Jeffrey Epstein is dead. Ghislaine Maxwell is not. Whatever interest the public may have in Epstein, that interest cannot justify a broad intrusion into grand jury secrecy in a case where the defendant is alive, her legal options are viable, and her due process rights remain.”
Another DOJ request to unseal grand jury testimony related to Epstein&#8217;s indictment in Manhattan is still sitting before another federal judge.

CNN ran with a story on Wednesday morning about how top Trump officials planned to sit down and hash out a strategy regarding whether or not to go public with a transcript of the Justice Department&#8217;s recent interview with Jeffrey Epstein&#8217;s convicted accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.
According to <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/08/05/politics/trump-blanche-epstein-maxwell-vance-bondi-patel-meeting">that story</a>, three anonymous sources had revealed that a dinner had been scheduled for Wednesday evening at Vice President JD Vance&#8217;s residence, and was expected to include the top officials involved in the investigation of Epstein&#8217;s case and the documents relating to it.
CNN&#8217;s report stated that the guest list consisted of White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, Vice President JD Vance, Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, the last of whom conducted the interview with Maxwell.

The report also claimed that two unnamed &#8220;officials&#8221; had said the Trump administration was considering releasing the contents of Deputy AG Blanche&#8217;s interview with Maxwell — and that three anonymous sources &#8220;familiar with the discussions&#8221; had suggested that Blanche could potentially sit for a long-form interview with someone like podcast host Joe Rogan.
There was just one problem with the story: despite being co-authored by Alayna Treene, Josh Campbell, Paula Reid, Kristen Holmes, and Kaitlan Collins, Vice President JD Vance&#8217;s office denied that there was any such dinner planned.

Ghislaine Maxwell&#8217;s attorneys have announced that she is opposing the Trump administration&#8217;s request to unseal the grand jury transcripts from her sex trafficking case, despite her recent cooperation with the Justice Department.
Maxwell, according to her attorneys, has not seen the full contents of the transcripts, and for that reason, could not be expected to support them being made public, Fox News <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ghislaine-maxwell-opposes-court-unsealing-her-grand-jury-transcripts">reported</a>.
&#8220;Jeffrey Epstein is dead. Ghislaine Maxwell is not. Whatever interest the public may have in Epstein, that interest cannot justify a broad intrusion into grand jury secrecy in a case where the defendant is alive, her legal options are viable, and her due process rights remain,&#8221; her attorneys explained.
They also noted that Maxwell — who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking — still has a case pending before the Supreme Court, and said that making the grand jury testimony public could potentially derail those proceedings.
Maxwell&#8217;s attorneys had <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/epstein-accomplice-rolls-dice-with-supreme-court-appeals-to-get-conviction-tossed">filed new documents</a> several days prior, claiming that a controversial 2007 plea agreement with her late employer — convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein — had also covered her even though it did not mention her by name.
That plea agreement — between Epstein and South Florida prosecutors — had allowed Epstein to plead guilty to state charges of solicitation and procuring minors for the purpose of prostitution, but it also stated that federal prosecutors would &#8220;not institute any criminal charges against any potential co-conspirators of Epstein.&#8221; Several such co-conspirators were named in the filing, and Maxwell was not among them — but her attorneys claim that does not matter.
&#8220;Rather than grapple with the core principles of plea agreements, the government tries to distract by reciting a lurid and irrelevant account of Jeffrey Epstein’s misconduct,” Maxwell’s attorneys wrote. “But this case is about what the government promised, not what Epstein did.”
“This promise is unqualified. It is not geographically limited to the Southern District of Florida, it is not conditioned on the co-conspirators being known by the government at the time, it does not depend on what any particular government attorney may have had in his or her head about who might be a co-conspirator, and it contains no other caveat or exception,” they continued. “This should be the end of the discussion.&#8221;

Congress is ratcheting up its investigation into matters related to deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, subpoenaing the Department of Justice (DOJ) for documents as well as former President Bill Clinton, his wife, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and several ex-law enforcement leaders for testimony.
House Oversight Chairman James Comer (R-KY) made the <a href="https://x.com/RepJamesComer/status/1952729381983408550" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announcement</a> on Tuesday, nearly two weeks after he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-subpoenas-epstein-associate-ghislaine-maxwell">subpoenaed</a> Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell to participate in a deposition.
The DOJ has been compelled to provide records by August 19. A copy of the subpoena, <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-and-Schedule-to-DOJ.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> to the House Oversight Committee&#8217;s website, shows the breadth of documents being sought by lawmakers.
Former Attorney General William Barr is scheduled for a deposition on August 18, followed by former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales on August 26, and former Attorney General Jeff Sessions on August 28.  Former FBI Director Robert Mueller is set to be deposed on September 2, with former Attorney General Loretta Lynch to follow on September 9.
Afterwards, former Attorney General Eric Holder is set for a deposition on September 30, and former Attorney General Merrick Garland is scheduled for October 2. Former FBI Director James Comey is poised to face a deposition on October 7, while Hillary Clinton is slated for October 9, and Bill Clinton on October 14.
In his <a href="https://oversight.house.gov/wp-content/uploads/2025/08/2025.08.05-Subpoena-Cover-Letters.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cover letters</a>, Comer explained how the Clinton family &#8220;appears to have had a close relationship&#8221; with Epstein and Maxwell. To the former law enforcement heads, the chairman noted the various ways the FBI and DOJ were involved in investigations, litigation, and other matters related to Epstein and Maxwell during their tenures.
Comer issued the new wave of subpoenas following <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-panel-votes-to-subpoena-epstein-files-clintons-ex-law-enforcement-leaders" target="_blank" rel="noopener">votes</a> on July 23 by Oversight&#8217;s Federal Law Enforcement Subcommittee.
Members approved by voice vote a motion from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) to issue the subpoenas to the Clintons and former law enforcement leaders. The panel also passed, by an 8-2 vote, an amended motion from Rep. Summer Lee (D-PA) to subpoena the DOJ for Epstein case records. Amendments by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), to include Biden administration communications with the DOJ regarding Epstein, and Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC), to redact victims’ names and any child sexual abuse material, were both adopted by voice vote.
Epstein, a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender, was found dead at the age of 66 in his New York City jail cell in 2019 — after being arrested on sex trafficking charges involving young girls. In addition to the Clintons, Epstein had connections to a variety of high-profile people, including President Donald Trump. The Clintons and Trump have sought to distance themselves from Epstein over the years. Maxwell is serving <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-20-years-prison-conspiring-jeffrey-epstein-sexually-abuse">a 20-year prison sentence</a> after being found guilty of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse underage girls.
A growing number of lawmakers have been pushing ever since the Trump administration&#8217;s DOJ claimed it had no evidence that Epstein had a client list, blackmailed powerful people, or was murdered after Attorney General Pam Bondi <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shes-great-trump-backs-bondi-wants-top-officials-to-end-conflict-over-epstein">hinted</a> that major bombshells were about to be revealed. At the behest of Trump, who has argued that people are falling for a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/white-house-explains-trumps-epstein-hoax-claim">&#8220;hoax&#8221;</a> spun by the Democrats, Bondi later asked judges to unseal grand jury testimony from the cases against Epstein and Maxwell. One federal judge in Florida <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hands-are-tied-federal-judge-denies-dojs-request-to-unseal-epstein-grand-jury-transcripts" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied</a> the DOJ request. Judges in New York, where other cases took place, did not make decisions right away.
&#8220;While the Department undertakes efforts to uncover and publicly disclose additional information related to Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell’s cases, it is imperative that Congress conduct oversight of the federal government’s enforcement of sex trafficking laws generally and specifically its handling of the investigation and prosecution of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell,&#8221; Comer wrote in his cover letter to Bondi.
&#8220;The Committee may use the results of this investigation to inform legislative solutions to improve federal efforts to combat sex trafficking and reform the use of non-prosecution agreements and/or plea agreements in sex-crime investigations,&#8221; the chairman added. &#8220;Documents related to the Department’s investigation and prosecution of Mr. Epstein and Ms. Maxwell are relevant to the Committee’s investigation.&#8221;
Maxwell reportedly was <a class="c-link c-link--focus-visible" href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-moved-from-florida-prison-to-lower-security-facility" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-stringify-link="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-moved-from-florida-prison-to-lower-security-facility" data-sk="tooltip_parent">moved</a> from a prison in Florida to a lower-security facility in Texas after meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer. Her attorney wrote to Comer, in response to his subpoena demanding a deposition on August 11, warning that his client would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ghislaine-maxwell-sends-congress-list-of-demands-for-deposition">refuse cooperation</a> with Congress if she is not granted immunity or given other concessions. The House Oversight Committee has rejected the idea of granting congressional immunity in exchange for Maxwell&#8217;s testimony.

Ghislaine Maxwell has been transferred from a Florida prison to a lower-security facility in Texas to continue serving her 20-year sentence for helping the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse underage girls, the U.S. Bureau of Prisons said on Friday.
Maxwell&#8217;s move from FCI Tallahassee, a low-security prison, to the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas, comes a week after she met with Deputy U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, who said he wanted to speak with her about anyone else who may have been involved in Epstein&#8217;s crimes.
Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer, David Markus, confirmed she was moved but said he had no other comment. Spokespeople for the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The BOP classifies prison camps such as Bryan as minimum security institutions, the lowest of five security levels in the federal system. Such facilities have limited or no perimeter fencing. Low-security facilities such as FCI Tallahassee have double-fenced perimeters and higher staff-to-inmate ratios than camps, according to the bureau.
Asked why Maxwell was transferred, BOP spokesperson Donald Murphy said he could not comment on the specifics of any incarcerated individual&#8217;s prison assignment, but that the BOP determines where inmates are sent based on factors including &#8220;the level of security and supervision the inmate requires.&#8221;
Blanche&#8217;s meeting with Maxwell came as President Donald Trump faces pressure from both his base of conservative supporters and congressional Democrats to release more information from the Department of Justice&#8217;s investigations of Maxwell and Epstein.
The Department is seeking court approval to release transcripts of law enforcement officers&#8217; testimony before the grand juries that indicted Maxwell and Epstein. Such transcripts are usually kept secret. Two federal judges in Manhattan are weighing the government&#8217;s requests.
Lawyers for Maxwell, Epstein, and their alleged victims are due to share their positions on the potential unsealing with the judges in filings on Tuesday.
Epstein died by suicide in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. He had pleaded not guilty.
Neither Markus nor Blanche has provided detailed accounts of what they discussed. Markus has said Maxwell would welcome relief from Trump, who has said he had not thought about whether to pardon her.
Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 of recruiting and grooming girls for Epstein to abuse. She had pleaded not guilty and is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn her conviction.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump suggested Tuesday that a high profile alleged victim of Jeffrey Epstein, Virginia Giuffre, was among the staff members that Epstein poached from his Mar-a-Lago resort.
The president discussed the convicted sex offender, who died in a Manhattan prison from apparent suicide in 2019, as he spoke to reporters aboard Air Force One on his way back from Scotland on Tuesday. He shared that he and Epstein, who were formerly friends, fell out over Epstein&#8217;s focus on Trump&#8217;s employees.
“People were taken out of the spa, hired by him. In other words, gone,” Trump told reporters. “When I heard about it, I told him, I said, listen, we don’t want you taking our people, whether it’s spa or not spa &#8230; and he was fine. And not too long after, he did it again. And I said, outta here.”
“I have a great spa,” the president added. “One of the best spas in the world at Mar-a-Lago.”
Trump had said on Monday that he ended his relationship with Epstein after Epstein &#8220;stole people who worked&#8221; for him. Asked by a reporter if one of those individuals who Epstein &#8220;stole&#8221; was Giuffre, who died by suicide in April, Trump responded: “I think so. I think that was one of the people.&#8221;
&#8220;He stole her,&#8221; added Trump, noting, &#8220;And by the way, she had no complaints about us whatsoever.&#8221;
Trump&#8217;s comments come after legacy outlets <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bondi-told-trump-his-name-was-in-epstein-files-no-actionable-allegations-found">broke the news</a> that during a May briefing on the Epstein case, Attorney General Pam Bondi told Trump that his name, and the names of other high-profile figures, came up in her examination of the Epstein documents that are not public.
It was already publicly reported that Trump&#8217;s name appears in the Epstein documents, given that public files include his name and hundreds of others. The two men were openly friendly before they fell out (reportedly because Trump found Epstein to be a &#8220;creep&#8221;) and Epstein was no longer welcome at Mar-A-Lago, administration officials previously shared with The Daily Wire.
Asked by reporters whether he stopped being friends with Epstein because he was a creep or because he was stealing employees, Trump responded: “Well maybe they’re the same thing, sort of a little bit of the same thing. He took people that worked for me and I told him don’t do it anymore, and he did it, so I said stay the hell out of here.”

“As part of our routine briefing, we made the president aware of the findings,” Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, shared in a joint statement. “Nothing in the files warranted further investigation or prosecution.”
The Justice Department posted a July 7 <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/media/1407001/dl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">memo</a> declaring that after an “exhaustive review” of the Epstein files, it had found no incriminating “client list” or “credible evidence” that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals. &#8220;No further disclosure would be appropriate or warranted,&#8221; the DOJ said, sparking massive backlash from both the Left and the Right.
Amid ongoing criticism and calls for more transparency, Blanche revealed that he would interview Epstein&#8217;s infamous cohort Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20 year sentence for sex trafficking.
“If Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say,” Blanche <a href="https://x.com/AGPamBondi/status/1947622027587723365" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.

David Oscar Markus, Maxwell&#8217;s attorney, wrote that their &#8220;initial reaction&#8221; to the subpoena, which seeks a deposition with at the Federal Correctional Institution in Tallahassee, Florida, on August 11, was that his client would &#8220;invoke her Fifth Amendment rights and decline to testify at this time.&#8221; But, he added, &#8220;further reflection&#8221; led them to offer &#8220;conditions&#8221; that would make it possible for Maxwell to cooperate.
The committee questioning Maxwell in prison and without a grant of immunity are &#8220;non-starters,&#8221; Markus warned. He said Maxwell &#8220;cannot risk further criminal exposure in a politically charged environment&#8221; and warned the potential for leaks from prison would create &#8220;real security risks and undermines the integrity of the process.&#8221; Markus also wrote that Maxwell would require questions in advance and requested the deposition be scheduled after the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/epstein-accomplice-rolls-dice-with-supreme-court-appeals-to-get-conviction-tossed" target="_blank" rel="noopener">decides</a> on his client&#8217;s petition seeking to overturn her conviction.
&#8220;Of course, in the alternative, if Ms. Maxwell were to receive clemency, she would be willing — and eager — to testify openly and honestly, in public, before Congress in Washington, D.C.,&#8221; Markus wrote. &#8220;She welcomes the opportunity to share the truth and to dispel the many misconceptions and misstatements that have plagued this case from the beginning.&#8221;
So far, it does not appear Comer is willing to accept the full extent of Maxwell&#8217;s demands, which follow <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/justice-department-meets-with-ghislaine-maxwell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">meetings</a> with the Department of Justice.
&#8220;The Oversight Committee will respond to Ms. Maxwell’s attorney soon, but it will not consider granting congressional immunity for her testimony,&#8221; a spokesperson for the panel <a href="https://x.com/MacFarlaneNews/status/1950246277163196701" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> reporters.
A House Oversight panel also voted last week to subpoena files regarding Epstein and testimony from former President Bill Clinton, his wife and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and several ex-law enforcement leaders. Topline: President Trump secured a historic trade agreement with the European Union over the weekend and successfully brokered a ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. 
On Sunday, President Trump finalized a massive trade deal with the EU just four days before his August 1 deadline. Under the terms of the agreement, the United States will set a baseline tariff of 15% on most European goods, while the EU will open its markets to American products at a zero-percent tariff. The EU also agreed to purchase $750 billion in energy and defense products from the United States. Collectively, the nations in the EU bloc are America&#8217;s largest trading partner.
Announcing the deal, Trump <a href="https://x.com/RapidResponse47/status/1949527667478319115">said</a>, “It’s great that we made a deal today instead of playing games.” The agreement is a significant win for the White House, as the EU had initially proposed a lower 10% tariff rate.
The deal capped off a weekend of foreign policy wins for the president. After a long-disputed <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/very-good-conversation-trump-says-peace-between-cambodia-and-thailand-imminent-after-phone-calls">border conflict</a> between Thailand and Cambodia erupted into a firefight that killed at least 35 people, Trump intervened. The president threatened both nations with 36% tariffs if they did not immediately begin peace talks. Within hours, the two countries agreed to negotiations, which are set to take place on Monday.
With the deadline just days away, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick issued a firm warning to other trading partners that have not yet reached an agreement with the United States. &#8220;No extensions, no more grace periods — August 1st, the tariffs are set,&#8221; he said.

Topline: The Department of Justice has interviewed Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell for the first time, a development that legal experts find remarkable, as FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino issued a cryptic warning about government corruption. 
The DOJ met with Maxwell last week, with her attorney David Oscar Markus confirming that prosecutors questioned her about &#8220;100 different people.&#8221; Markus noted that it was the &#8220;first opportunity she&#8217;s ever been given to answer questions about what happened.&#8221; George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley called the development remarkable, expressing shock on Fox News that Maxwell, &#8220;the one who knows the most,&#8221; had been an untapped resource for so long.

Topline: President Trump is criticizing California Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom after nearly $100 million in aid raised by the &#8220;FireAid&#8221; celebrity concert reportedly failed to reach the wildfire victims it was intended to help. 
The &#8220;FireAid&#8221; concert, featuring A-list artists like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, raised money for residents impacted by the devastating Pacific Palisades and Altadena wildfires earlier this year. Celebrity spokespeople, including actors Miles Teller and Samuel L. Jackson, assured the public that &#8220;All the money raised will go directly to people who need it.&#8221; However, victims on the ground say they have not received any of the money. 
President Trump took to social media to blast the situation, calling it &#8220;A TOTAL DISASTER&#8221; and &#8220;ANOTHER DEMOCRAT INSPIRED SCAM.&#8221; He also slammed Newsom’s forest management, which he said allowed the fires to happen in the first place. FireAid has since issued a statement claiming the plan was never to make direct payments to individuals, but to work through local non-profits. 
An investigation by local news editor Sue Pascoe, who lost her home in the Palisades fire, found that some of these nonprofits appear to be using the funds for their own social and political causes. One group promised to use the money to &#8220;cultivate egalitarian relationships based on trust and respect,&#8221; while another said it would work to build &#8220;a more humane and democratic society.&#8221; Rep. Kevin Kiley (R-CA) is now pushing for an investigation into where the funds went.

Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell gave the Department of Justice information on “100 different people” linked to child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein, her lawyer David Oscar Markus told reporters on Friday, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/25/us-news/ghislaine-maxwell-gave-doj-info-about-100-different-people-linked-to-jeffrey-epstein-lawyer-says/">the New York Post</a>.
Maxwell met with the DOJ on Thursday and Friday and was grilled by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, answering &#8220;every single question,&#8221; according to Markus.
“This was the first opportunity she’s ever been given to answer questions about what happened,” Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer said. “The truth will come out about what happened with Mr. Epstein, and she’s the person who’s answering those questions.”
Markus did not say whether Maxwell&#8217;s discussions with the DOJ tied anyone else to Epstein&#8217;s crimes. Markus was challenged by one reporter about two previous perjury counts against Maxwell, and replied by pointing to the federal government dropping those charges after she was convicted of sex trafficking.
The Trump administration is pursuing multiple avenues to release more information on the Epstein case after facing criticism for its handling of the investigation. The DOJ is also requesting that federal judges in New York and Florida unseal grand jury transcripts in Epstein&#8217;s and Maxwell&#8217;s cases. A federal judge in Florida <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/hands-are-tied-federal-judge-denies-dojs-request-to-unseal-epstein-grand-jury-transcripts">denied</a> the DOJ&#8217;s request earlier this week, saying that her &#8220;hands are tied&#8221; and she does not have the authority to release the sensitive records.
Maxwell is in the process of appealing her conviction, and some commentators and legal analysts have floated that Epstein&#8217;s co-conspirator is providing more information to the DOJ in hopes of securing clemency from President Donald Trump.
As the DOJ was questioning Maxwell, Trump was asked Friday morning if he would <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-says-hes-allowed-to-pardon-ghislaine-maxwell-keeps-option-open-after-doj-meeting">consider a pardon</a> for the sex trafficker, who is serving a 20-year sentence.
“It’s something I haven’t thought about,” Trump responded. “I’m allowed to do it, but it’s something I have not thought about.”
Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer commented on a potential pardon or commutation, calling Trump &#8220;the ultimate dealmaker,&#8221; adding, “We hope he exercises that power in a right and just way.
On Thursday, Markus said that Maxwell was questioned &#8220;all day,&#8221; but he did not comment &#8220;on the substance&#8221; of the meeting, CBS News <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/top-doj-official-todd-blanche-meeting-with-ghislaine-maxwell/">reported</a>.
&#8220;This is the first time that the government has asked questions, so we were thankful that the deputy attorney general came and asked her questions. It&#8217;s the first time the government did it. So it was a good day,&#8221; Markus added.

Ghislaine Maxwell Gave DOJ Info On 100 People Linked To Epstein, Her Lawyer Says

Asked about the Jeffrey Epstein files again on Friday morning, President Donald Trump told reporters on the White House lawn that they should focus on former President Bill Clinton&#8217;s connection to the convicted child sex abuser.
The president also mentioned Larry Summers, the former president of Harvard and Treasury Secretary under Clinton, and &#8220;some of his friends that are hedge fund guys.&#8221; Neither Summers nor Clinton has been accused of any crimes related to Epstein&#8217;s sex trafficking and abuse.
&#8220;You ought to be speaking about Bill Clinton, who went to [Epstein&#8217;s] island 28 times. I never went to the island,&#8221; Trump said.

Trump&#8217;s comments come amid continued pressure for the administration to release more information on the Epstein files after the Department of Justice concluded earlier this month that there was no evidence that Epstein kept a client list. Trump has blasted the focus on the Epstein files as a Democrat &#8220;<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-dismisses-epstein-case-hoax-as-his-justice-department-interviews-ghislaine-maxwell?author=Virginia+Kruta&amp;category=undefined&amp;elementPosition=3&amp;row=3&amp;rowHeadline=Latest+News&amp;rowType=Vertical+Carousel&amp;title=Trump+Dismisses+Epstein+Case+%E2%80%98HOAX%E2%80%99+As+His+Justice+Department+Interviews+Ghislaine+Maxwell">CON JOB</a>,&#8221; but suggested on Thursday that more information would come to light after his DOJ requested that grand jury transcripts in the case be unsealed.
Clinton has acknowledged that he was a former associate of Epstein&#8217;s, but denied that he had any knowledge of the pedophile&#8217;s crimes against young girls. A spokesman for Clinton <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2019/07/08/politics/bill-clinton-jeffrey-epstein#:~:text=%E2%80%9CIn%202002%20and%202003%2C%20President,young%2Dlooking%20girls%2C%20prosecutors%20say">claimed</a> in 2019 that the former president traveled on Epstein&#8217;s private jet on four occasions between 2002 and 2003, &#8220;one to Europe, one to Asia, and two to Africa, which included stops in connection with the work of the Clinton Foundation.&#8221;
The Clinton spokesman added that the former president &#8220;has never been to Little St. James Island, Epstein’s ranch in New Mexico, or his residence in Florida.&#8221;
A 2016 article from Fox News, however, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/flight-logs-show-bill-clinton-flew-on-sex-offenders-jet-much-more-than-previously-known">reported</a> that Clinton traveled on Epstein&#8217;s private jet at least 26 times, according to flight records. In 2020, a <a href="https://nypost.com/2020/08/18/photos-show-bill-clinton-getting-massage-from-epstein-accuser/">picture</a> surfaced of Clinton getting a massage from Epstein accuser Chauntae Davies after a 2002 flight on Epstein&#8217;s &#8220;Lolita Express,&#8221; the New York Post reported. Davies alleged that Epstein raped her on multiple occasions and also accused Epstein&#8217;s co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell, of recruiting her to work for the predator. Davies did not accuse Clinton of any wrongdoing.
Clinton&#8217;s name also <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67865190">appeared</a> — alongside the names of President Trump, Prince Andrew, and others — in court filings related to the Epstein case. The court filings only detailed Clinton&#8217;s and Trump&#8217;s connection to Epstein and did not implicate the U.S. presidents in any criminality. Prince Andrew was <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/prince-andrew-allegations-jeffrey-epstein-documents-no-uk-police-investigation/">accused</a> of groping Johanna Sjoberg in 2001 and was also accused of sexual abuse by Virginia Giuffre, who <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/most-prominent-epstein-sexual-abuse-victim-virginia-giuffre-dies-by-apparent-suicide?author=Mairead+Elordi&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=undefined&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Most+Prominent+Epstein+Sexual+Abuse+Victim+Virginia+Giuffre+Dies+By+Apparent+Suicide">died</a> by apparent suicide earlier this year. Prince Andrew has denied any wrongdoing and settled the case brought by Giuffre out of court in 2022.
In a 2016 deposition, Sjoberg said that Epstein mentioned Clinton to her. “He said one time that Clinton likes them young, referring to girls,” Sjoberg said, but added that she never saw the former president on Epstein&#8217;s island. A Clinton spokesman said in 2019 that Clinton had not spoken to Epstein in more than a decade and had no knowledge of any criminal activity when he was last in contact with the disgraced financier.

A Clinton spokesman declined to comment on the alleged birthday message, according to the WSJ.
Asked about the WSJ report on Friday, Trump said, &#8220;I don&#8217;t know what they&#8217;re talking about. Somebody could&#8217;ve written a letter and used my name. That&#8217;s happened a lot.&#8221;

Trump&#8217;s comments come one day after Todd Blanche, the second highest-ranking Justice Department official, <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/top-doj-official-todd-blanche-meeting-with-ghislaine-maxwell/">met</a> with Maxwell on Thursday at the U.S. attorney&#8217;s office in Tallahassee, Florida.
“If Ghislane Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say,” Blanche <a href="https://x.com/AGPamBondi/status/1947622027587723365" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a statement earlier this week.
Blanche continued interviewing Maxwell on Friday.
&#8220;He&#8217;s over there now,&#8221; Trump said of Blanche Friday morning. &#8220;I don&#8217;t know exactly what&#8217;s happening, but I certainly can&#8217;t talk about pardons now.&#8221;
Another reporter asked, &#8220;Can you trust what she&#8217;s telling him? She&#8217;s a convicted trafficker who&#8217;s eager to get out of prison?&#8221;
&#8220;Well, you know, he&#8217;s a professional lawyer,&#8221; Trump responded. &#8220;I think he&#8217;s been through things like this before.&#8221;
Maxwell&#8217;s lawyer <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/top-doj-official-todd-blanche-meeting-with-ghislaine-maxwell/">said</a> she had answered &#8220;every one&#8221; of the government&#8217;s questions on Thursday.
Trump also again denied he had written a &#8220;bawdy&#8221; birthday letter to Epstein, which The Wall Street Journal reported last week.
&#8220;I don&#8217;t even know what they&#8217;re talking about. Now, somebody could have written a letter and used my name. That&#8217;s happened a lot,&#8221; Trump said.
Trump has filed $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the Journal over the story.
Trump and Epstein socialized in the early 2000s, but Trump reportedly <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/510604-book-claims-trump-barred-epstein-from-mar-a-lago-after-financier-hit" target="_blank" rel="noopener">banned</a> Epstein from Mar-a-Lago in 2007 for harassing a club member’s teenage daughter. In 2020, Trump <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/510604-book-claims-trump-barred-epstein-from-mar-a-lago-after-financier-hit/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he was “not a fan” of Epstein and “threw him out” of Mar-a-Lago, adding that they had not spoken in 15 years.
Bill Clinton allegedly wrote a birthday letter that complimented Epstein on his “childlike curiosity,” the Journal <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bill-clinton-commended-epstein-for-childlike-curiosity-in-unearthed-birthday-letter">reported</a> Thursday.

Epstein was found dead at 66 in what was ruled a suicide in his Manhattan jail cell back in 2019. He was awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges after being <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-predator-prowling-the-streets-the-trial-of-ghislaine-maxwell" target="_blank" rel="noopener">accused</a> of sexually abusing dozens of underage girls, as well as procuring underage girls for prominent men on his private island in the Virgin Islands, Little St. James.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche is meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell at the U.S. Attorney&#8217;s Office in Tallahassee, Florida.
At around 9 a.m. ET, Blanche arrived at the federal courthouse, shaking his head and saying “no” when asked if he had anything to say before his meeting with Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/pr/ghislaine-maxwell-sentenced-20-years-prison-conspiring-jeffrey-epstein-sexually-abuse">sentence</a> for helping Jeffrey Epstein sex traffick young girls. 
It is not clear what Blanche will discuss with her. 
In a statement <a href="https://x.com/AGPamBondi/status/1947622027587723365">posted</a> to X by Attorney General Pam Bondi earlier this week, Blanche said that President Donald Trump told them to release “all credible evidence” regarding information about Epstein’s illicit activities. 
“If Ghislaine Maxwell has information about anyone who has committed crimes against victims, the FBI and the DOJ will hear what she has to say,” he said. 
This week, Maxwell’s attorney <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jeffrey-epstein-ghislaine-maxwell-todd-blanche-meeting/">said</a> they were in discussion with the government about a meeting and stated that “Ghislaine will always testify truthfully.” 
Despite this, in 2022, the Department of Justice <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/ghislaine-maxwell-engaged-significant-pattern-dishonest-conduct-doj/story?id=124017081">doubted</a> that Maxwell could be truthful, with court papers accusing her of a pattern of dishonesty and a failure to take accountability for her crimes. Ahead of Maxwell’s trial in 2021, the feds revealed that prosecutors did not consider working out a plea deal with her in exchange for testimony. 
Defense Lawyer Duncan Levin described Blanche’s meeting with Maxwell as unusual. 
“If Todd Blanche, now running the DOJ and formerly Trump’s personal lawyer, is personally meeting with Ghislaine Maxwell in prison, it suggests something far outside the norm,” he said, <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/24/us-news/deputy-ag-todd-blanche-will-meet-with-ghislaine-maxwell-within-hours-sources/">according to</a> the New York Post. “This isn’t some career prosecutor following protocol. It’s a direct line from Trump’s inner circle to one of the most infamous inmates in the country.”
The meeting comes just one day after the House Oversight Committee issued a subpoena for Maxwell to address Congress. The deposition will occur at the prison on August 11th, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-subpoenas-epstein-associate-ghislaine-maxwell">reported</a> by The Daily Wire.
