A Georgetown University professor expressed his &#8220;hope&#8221; that Iran would strike an American military base — just one day before it did so.
&#8220;I&#8217;m not an expert, but I assume Iran could still get a bomb easily,&#8221; Dr. Jonathan Brown wrote in a since-deleted X post on Sunday. &#8220;I hope Iran does some symbolic strike on a base, then everyone stops.&#8221;
Brown — who serves as Chair of the department of Arabic and Islamic studies and the Alwaleed bin Talal Chair of Islamic Civilization at <a href="https://gufaculty360.georgetown.edu/s/contact/00336000014RYoCAAW/jonathan-a-c-brown">Georgetown </a> — went on to lob crude insults at both the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and Reza Pahlavi, the Crown Prince of Iran.

Iran retaliated on Monday, firing missiles at an American military base in Qatar. There have been no reported injuries.
The Daily Wire obtained comments from Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) on the professor&#8217;s post in light of the recent attacks on the American military base in Qatar.
Ernst said, &#8220;Especially after Iranian missiles were launched at American bases, it is disgusting for a professor in our homeland to wish for an attack on our brave servicemembers and call for more harm to Israel.&#8221;
&#8220;Antisemitic campus crazies continue to have a shameful obsession with supporting Iran and its terrorist proxies,&#8221; Ernst continued. &#8220;Make no mistake &#8212; the American people are safer and more secure today because of President Trump&#8217;s leadership.&#8221;
Brown deleted his post and shared an apology after being met with backlash.
&#8220;I deleted my previous tweet because a lot of people were interpreting it as a call for violence,&#8221; Brown said. &#8220;That’s not what I intended. I have two immediate family members in the US military who’ve served abroad and wouldn’t want any harm to befall American soldiers… or anyone!&#8221;
Brown’s father-in-law, Sami Al-Arian, is also a well-known academic and is convicted of aiding a terrorist group. Al-Arian, who was a professor of computer science at the University of South Florida, was <a href="https://www.justice.gov/archive/opa/pr/2006/May/06_crm_260.html">sentenced</a> to almost five years in prison for assisting the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in 2006. Al-Arian was subsequently <a href="https://www.politico.com/blogs/under-the-radar/2015/02/al-arian-saga-ends-with-deportation-202233">deported</a> to Turkey in 2015.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/colleges">Students</a> at <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/georgetown-university">Georgetown University</a> in Washington, D.C., are being treated like toddlers as they face <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/2024-election">election day</a> stress, per a letter obtained by The Free Press.
The elite college is offering stressed out students access to a so-called “Self-Care Suit,” the outlet <a href="https://www.thefp.com/p/georgetown-election-safe-space-trump-kamala">noted</a>, where the young adults could occupy their time with hot cocoa, Lego building activities, mindfulness exercises, milk and cookies, coloring, and meditation. The offer was sent to students in the McCourt School of Public Policy.
“In recognition of these stressful times, all McCourt community members are welcome to gather &#8230; in the 3rd floor Commons to take a much needed break, joining us for mindfulness activities and snacks throughout the day,” the letter from the school’s director of student engagement Jaclyn Clevenger said.
Several other colleges have offered students similar amenities for them to deal with election stress. Attendees of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, are being offered cupcakes in addition to a “walkable labyrinth” featuring “calming lighting and music,” per the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/11/05/us-news/georgetown-providing-self-care-suites-for-students-on-election-day-complete-with-milk-and-cookies-and-coloring-books/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=nypost">New York Post</a>.
Those students can also participate in a “Pause for Paws” event featuring animal cuddling and hot chocolate. If that’s not enough, then later this week, students can enter a “post election processing space.” They’ll be able to create art and eat baked potatoes there.

Virginia Tech students are being encouraged to &#8220;find [their] flow&#8221; on Election Day with methods such as collaborative art projects, per the college’s Cook Counseling Center Facebook <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=1091994296266575&amp;set=a.623082459824430">page</a>. Other proposed stress reducers include free fidget toys, therapy dogs, guided stretching sessions, and science “hacks” for stress responses like fight or flight.

Retired Army General Mark Milley — who most recently served as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — has accepted teaching positions at two prestigious universities.
According to a <a href="https://www.axios.com/2024/02/13/retired-mark-milley-georgetown-princeton-faculties" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Axios, Milley will be instructing students at both Princeton University — his own alma mater — and Georgetown University in subjects relating to national security.
Milley attended Princeton, where he graduated in 1980 and received his commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program. His return to the school will see him acting as a Charles and Marie Robertson visiting professor through the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA).
According to a statement from Princeton University, Milley &#8220;will serve as a guest lecturer, meet with students, engage with alumni and faculty, and provide input on the School&#8217;s Security Studies Ph.D. program.&#8221;
Dean Amaney Jamal praised the decision, saying that Milley&#8217;s &#8220;experience in the nation&#8217;s capital as well as abroad in conflict zones&#8221; would provide excellent context for his students in the coming year. His appointment at Princeton is set to expire in June of 2025.

Dr. Phillip C. McGraw, commonly known as Dr. Phil, slammed woke elite universities for not standing up to extremist student organizations that celebrated Hamas&#8217; terrorist attacks on Israel two weeks ago.
McGraw published a video on X speaking out about the October 7 attacks, which was the bloodiest day for Israel over 75 years.
&#8220;The Hamas invaders were not soldiers. They were assassins,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The Hamas charter calls for the ultimate annihilation of all Israeli Jews, followed by the annihilation of Jews around the world. Sound familiar? Sadly, some people, including some right here in America actually celebrated the slaughter and blame those being murdered, raped and kidnapped.&#8221;
&#8220;Many of America&#8217;s most respected elite universities are not only indulging but actually endorsing sanctioned student organizations holding celebrations for the murders,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, UCLA, and Stanford are high profile examples that should raise concern if not outrage.&#8221;
McGraw said that the reactions of the student groups revealed a &#8220;disturbing degree of ivy-covered intellectual rot&#8221; at America&#8217;s alleged top schools.
&#8220;Americans nationwide have been appalled and shocked,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The leadership of these supposedly highly sophisticated schools are so busy virtue signaling and coddling students who think that words are violence, but violence, horrific, inhumane violence is social justice, that they have forgotten it is their job to teach their students to think and to test reality. Instead of training tomorrow&#8217;s leaders, they are profoundly demagnetizing our culture&#8217;s moral compass among the college population.&#8221;
McGraw that while he was no expert in geopolitics, it only takes basic common sense to recognize Hamas&#8217; attacks as &#8220;utterly sick, twisted, disgusting, and inexcusable.&#8221;
&#8220;You cannot negotiate with people whose only acceptable outcome is to murder you and your entire race,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Seriously, have some of these people gotten together and collectively lost their minds? We know right from wrong, and we must stand up for what we believe and know is right. We must call out these institutions. How is any of this acceptable to anyone? How is it not recognized as incredibly racist? How do elite educators not recognize this is a huge teachable moment in the student&#8217;s journey?&#8221;
&#8220;The heads of the schools need to simply say on this campus, we don&#8217;t celebrate racism, anti-Semitism, baby killing, and murdering,&#8221; he concluded. &#8220;What they are doing instead is distancing themselves in hopes it blows over. Israel is our friend and ally. They don&#8217;t need us to just be their friend in good times. They need us to be their friend in bad times, to be their friend when it is easier not to be. Good friends are the ones coming in the door when everyone else is going out. This is a really great time to show Israel and the world who we are.&#8221;

Daily Wire Host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/author/michael-j-knowles" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael Knowles</a> appeared at Georgetown University in the opening lecture of a new college tour sponsored by YAF on Tuesday night.
During his lecture, Knowles posed the question: “Is Biden More Evil Than Putin Or Xi?”
Knowles drew parallels between the state-controlled media in Russia and China and the Biden administration’s unprecedented censorship of Americans, such as <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/collections/the-hunter-biden-files" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the throttling of the Hunter Biden laptop story</a>, which was falsely flagged as likely disinformation by senior intelligence officials sympathetic to the Democratic Party.
Knowles also highlighted the atrocities committed by the Chinese government against the Uyghur Muslim minority in Xinjiang, which has been described as a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/china-committed-genocide-against-uyghur-muslims-independent-british-tribunal-finds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">genocide</a>, and includes forced sterilization and abortions. While decrying those actions as morally indefensible, Knowles noted that Biden and the Democratic Party have tirelessly promoted abortion in the United States – roughly <a href="https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2023/01/11/what-the-data-says-about-abortion-in-the-u-s-2/">1 million</a> abortions take place in the U.S. each year. 
The Biden administration has also championed experimental procedures for trans-identifying children, including exposure to cross-sex hormones and various body modification surgeries. Knowles argued that minors and their parents can’t truly consent to the lifetime of sterility early medical intervention causes in gender-confused children – children are too young, parents are often cajoled with threats that their child will commit suicide if they don’t &#8220;support their transition,&#8221; and the desire to remove healthy tissue and artificially modify the body in and of itself calls the mental competence of the patient to make medical decisions into question.
While Knowles argues that the United States is unquestionably a better country than China or Russia, the moral stature of its leadership rests on far shakier ground.
Despite that assessment, and recent polling that suggests Biden is historically unpopular and highly vulnerable politically, Knowles does not believe that the president is going to be removed from the Democratic ticket.
“I know this is countercultural now,” Knowles said, “But I would still put a little bit of money on Biden being on the ticket.&#8221;

Knowles said that despite widespread, and, in his view, well-founded, concerns about the president’s age and mental acuity, Biden is still the de facto leader of the Democratic Party. Because he has no clear successor, removing him at this stage of the race would result in chaotic infighting.
“It would be an admission that things aren’t going well,” Knowles said. &#8220;For Joe Biden not to run for re-election would be an admission that the lights are on, but nobody’s home – and we all know that, but thus far, the Democrats have kept a fairly united front in saying that he’s really running the show.”
Knowles also noted that Joe Biden “has wanted to be president since he was in the womb” and is unlikely to give up his position without a fight.
Knowles argued that the polls were still worth watching, since they demonstrated that Trump could credibly oust Biden in 2024 – Republican critics of Trump have often argued that he’s polarizing and unelectable, citing his narrow defeat in 2020.
“I think the whole talking point is kind of silly,” Knowles said. “We know that Trump can win a general [election], he already did it … he’s won at least one.”

Former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) chief <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/anthony-fauci" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Dr. Anthony Fauci</a> will move on from advising those in the highest levels of the U.S. government to training the next generation of doctors. 
Georgetown University announced Monday that Fauci will join the school&#8217;s Department of Medicine as a “Distinguished University Professor,” the school’s highest professional honor. Beginning on July 1, the 82-year-old doctor will be a part of the Division of Infectious Diseases, which provides clinical care, conducts research, and trains future physicians in infectious diseases,” <a href="https://twitter.com/SherylNYT/status/1673376504225611776/photo/1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to a Georgetown press release. 
“We are deeply honored to welcome Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, a dedicated public servant, humanitarian and visionary global health leader, to Georgetown,” <a href="https://www.georgetown.edu/news/dr-anthony-fauci-to-join-georgetown-faculty-as-distinguished-university-professor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> Georgetown President John J. DeGioia. “Dr. Fauci has embodied the Jesuit value of being in service to others throughout his career, and we are grateful to have his expertise, strong leadership and commitment to guiding the next generation of leaders to meet the pressing issues of our time.”
Along with the honor of being named a university professor, Fauci was also appointed to Georgetown’s McCourt School of Public Policy, which offers public policy master&#8217;s degrees. 
In December, Fauci stepped down after working for nearly four decades as the director of the NIAID, which falls under the National Institute of Health (NIH). Fauci worked in the federal government for 54 years after joining the NIH in 1968 during the Lyndon Johnson administration. Fauci went on to advise seven presidents, influencing public policy decisions for decades. 
Fauci became the face of the U.S. response to the COVID pandemic after he was tapped by former President Donald Trump in March 2020 to serve on the White House Coronavirus Task Force. The doctor was criticized for his advice during the course of the pandemic, initially telling Americans not to wear masks before changing his recommendation later, leading states and local governments to enact strict mask requirements for months during the pandemic. President Joe Biden named Fauci as the chief medical advisor to the president after taking office in 2021. 
Fauci faced intense backlash after he said under oath before Congress that NIH “has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research” at the Chinese lab where many speculate COVID likely leaked from. Documents obtained by <a href="https://theintercept.com/2021/09/09/covid-origins-gain-of-function-research/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Intercept</a> appear to show that the NIH did fund gain-of-function research at the lab, contrary to Fauci’s testimony. 
Fauci’s retirement from the NIAID came into question last week when Sen. Rand Paul, who famously <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz7OGxb9X6E" target="_blank" rel="noopener">clashed</a> with Fauci during COVID Senate hearings, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/retired-or-not-sen-rand-paul-demands-dr-faucis-employment-status-from-biden-administration">demanded</a> to know if Fauci was still receiving taxpayer dollars based on ambiguous statements made by the doctor before his retirement.

&#8220;While many interpreted these statements to mean Dr. Fauci would be ending his employment with the federal government in December 2022, it is not clear if that is in fact the case,&#8221; Paul wrote.
&#8220;This raises questions about Dr. Fauci’s current employment status and whether he is still receiving certain taxpayer-funded benefits associated with active public service, such as legal counsel and protective services,&#8221; the senator added.
Georgetown’s announcement indicates that Fauci is officially moving on from his work in the federal government as he confirmed that he is looking forward to joining the university. 
“I am delighted to join the Georgetown family, an institution steeped in clinical and academic excellence with an emphasis on the Jesuit tradition of public service,” Fauci said. “This is a natural extension of my scientific, clinical and public health career, which was initially grounded from my high school and college days where I was exposed to intellectual rigor, integrity and service-mindedness of Jesuit institutions.”

The Lincoln Memorial closed briefly on Saturday after a graduation party from a local university left the grounds of the site strewn with litter.
The National Mall branch of the National Park Service made the announcement early Saturday morning. &#8220;The Lincoln Memorial is closed this morning following a local university graduation celebration that left litter, broken bottles and spilled wine and champagne covering the steps,&#8221; the National Mall NPS tweeted around 9 a.m. Saturday morning. &#8220;We will reopen as soon as the area has been cleaned and made safe.&#8221; The tweet included a picture of the site cordoned off with barriers and caution tape, as well as a park worker sweeping up litter from the steps of the site.

A spokesman for the NPS declined to publicly state which school or schools the graduates came from, but Georgetown University released a statement, via <a href="https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/lincoln-memorial-closed-after-grads-leave-broken-bottles-spilled-alcohol-officials/3057836/">NBC 4 Washington</a>, saying it was monitoring &#8220;the concerning and disappointing activity at the Lincoln Memorial.&#8221; Georgetown&#8217;s campus is within walking distance of the Lincoln Memorial, about two miles away from the National Mall.
&#8220;While Georgetown is one of several institutions celebrating graduation ceremonies this weekend, we have had no University-sponsored events at or around the Lincoln Memorial,&#8221; the University added. &#8220;We expect all members of our community to be responsible citizens of our campus and our city and be respectful of the history and institutions of Washington, D.C.&#8221;

The incident also comes on the heels of the Lincoln Memorial&#8217;s Centennial celebration, which is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. Sunday morning. According to the Lincoln Memorial&#8217;s official <a href="https://www.nps.gov/linc/planyourvisit/lincevents.htm">website</a>, the celebration, entitled &#8220;Building on Lincoln’s Vision of Unity and Equality&#8221; and hosted by the Lincoln Group of DC in conjunction with the National Park Service, will &#8220;highlight the full range of meaning behind the Lincoln Memorial, from its original meaning as a memorial to Lincoln’s life and contribution as savior of the Union to becoming a symbol of civil rights.&#8221;

If you didn&#8217;t know better, you might think that racism and anti-Catholicism are alive and well among several groups purportedly dedicated to rooting out just that sort of prejudice.
In an eyebrow-raising move, lawyers at Georgetown University, a Catholic institution, teamed up with the NAACP, the civil rights group defending black Americans, against a Catholic diocese and a group of Catholic and historically black colleges in South Carolina.
The groups took up this awkward position after <a href="https://www.scicu.org/about-scicu/">21 independent</a> colleges and universities joined the Catholic diocese of Charleston in filing a federal civil rights lawsuit against part of the state constitution, which they say wrongly deprived them of essential COVID relief last year. The diocese runs 33 Catholic K-12 schools.
The NAACP&#8217;s South Carolina arm, <a href="https://www.law.georgetown.edu/icap/our-work/protecting-young-people-and-vulnerable-groups/bishop-of-charleston-v-adams/">represented</a> by Georgetown lawyers, filed a <a href="https://www.law.georgetown.edu/icap/wp-content/uploads/sites/32/2021/06/2021.06.16-Motion-to-Intervene-41.pdf">motion</a> to intervene in the case in June, arguing that public schools should be prioritized for relief funds. A federal judge, however, threw out the NAACP&#8217;s bid to insert itself and become a party in the case.
The <a href="https://ljc-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/2021/07/2021-06-25-Plaintiff-Opposition-to-Motion-to-Intervene-Bishop-v-Adams.pdf">case</a> centers around two pots of COVID relief money that the diocese and a group of private <a href="https://www.scicu.org/about-scicu/">colleges</a>, South Carolina’s Independent Colleges and Universities (SCICU), say they missed out on.
The first pot is South Carolina&#8217;s $25 million program that <a href="https://accelerate.sc.gov/sites/default/files/Documents/Final%2010.13.20%20Nonprofit%20Relief%20Grant%20Program%20Design.pdf">provided</a> grants between $2,500 and $50,000 to nonprofits for pandemic-related costs. The other chunk of COVID aid is $32 million in CARES Act funding that Republican Gov. Henry McMaster allocated for one-time, needs-based tuition vouchers of up to $6,500. Those grants would allow parents to send their kids to Catholic or other private schools if they desired. 
As part of the relief, the governor had also <a href="https://governor.sc.gov/news/2020-07/gov-henry-mcmaster-invests-24-million-historically-black-colleges-and-universities">planned</a> to give $2.4 million to historically black colleges for pandemic-related costs like updating their technology for remote classes. He ended up <a href="https://apnews.com/article/henry-mcmaster-lawsuits-south-carolina-courts-virus-outbreak-3d346ec64f6f6db6dadac0bf4f85867a">withholding</a> the money once legal challenges were launched.
The lawsuit from the schools comes after the state Supreme Court <a href="https://www.live5news.com/2020/10/07/sc-supreme-court-strikes-down-gov-mcmasters-safe-grants-program/">struck down</a> the governor&#8217;s tuition voucher program last year. The suit that led to that decision was brought by a coalition that included the South Carolina Education Association, an affiliate of the largest public school teachers&#8217; union in the country.
Deepening the irony of the NAACP and its Georgetown legal team&#8217;s attempt to get involved, they cited and defended the state&#8217;s archaic Blaine Amendment, which has a history steeped in anti-Catholicism and racism. The amendment prohibits the state from giving &#8220;direct aid&#8221; to religious or other private schools.
&#8220;No money shall be paid from public funds nor shall the credit of the State or any of its political subdivisions be used for the direct benefit of any religious or other private educational institution,&#8221; the South Carolina state constitution <a href="https://www.scstatehouse.gov/scconstitution/SCConstitution.pdf">reads</a>.
The diocese and colleges countered in court <a href="https://ljc-assets.s3.amazonaws.com/2021/04/2021-04-14-Bishop-of-Charleston-v-Adams-Complaint.pdf">documents</a> that the Blaine Amendment &#8220;was born in bigotry and prejudice based on race and religion&#8221; and &#8220;violates the equal protection and free exercise clauses of the U.S. Constitution.&#8221;
The history of Blaine Amendments in the U.S. is long and ugly. They rose in the late nineteenth century across the country and were adopted in 38 state constitutions, part of a wave of anti-immigrant and anti-Catholic sentiment that gained momentum as more immigrants arrived in the U.S. from Catholic countries like Ireland, Poland, and Italy. As Catholic schools began to multiply in the country, a movement grew to prevent public funding being siphoned away from public schools to Catholic schools.
The origin of South Carolina&#8217;s Blaine Amendment has another layer of bigotry. It was added to the state’s constitution after the Civil War to choke off funds going to the Catholic schools that were educating newly freed slaves. The South Carolina Constitution of 1895 was infamous among southern Reconstruction era constitutions for introducing a literacy test for voting. A literacy test, however, would not stop former slaves from voting as long as Catholic missionaries were teaching them how to read. Over a century later, the amendment is still on the books in South Carolina, albeit in a slightly modified form.
“We are here to stand up for children and families across South Carolina and to face head on the anti-Catholic and the racist history in our state’s constitution,” Charleston Bishop Robert Guglielmone <a href="https://www.live5news.com/2021/04/14/catholic-diocese-charleston-files-lawsuit-against-state/">said</a>.
Blaine Amendments have been challenged in recent years, including in a high-profile Supreme Court <a href="https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/19pdf/18-1195_g314.pdf">case</a> last year that scrutinized Montana&#8217;s version of the amendment. In his concurring opinion, Justice Samuel Alito detailed the bigoted history of Blaine amendments, saying they were &#8220;prompted by virulent prejudice against immigrants, particularly Catholic immigrants.&#8221;
&#8220;So you&#8217;ve got Georgetown – Catholic Jesuit institution – spending money to fight Catholic schools. And you&#8217;ve got NAACP filing a lawsuit to stop money from going to historically black colleges. That is how much these people hate school choice,&#8221; Liberty Justice Center attorney Daniel Suhr, who represents the private colleges, told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Both the NAACP and Georgetown have to minimize prejudice against their own communities historically in order to make their argument in favor of stopping school choice,&#8221; added Suhr, who is a Georgetown law graduate himself. &#8220;It&#8217;s just disappointing and sad. It&#8217;s this really cynical use of this provision that&#8217;s been on the books for a century because it&#8217;s convenient to advance their political agenda.&#8221;
