President Donald Trump arrived in France on Monday for the Group of Seven (G7) summit, where he is expected to hold a series of high-profile meetings against the backdrop of a newly announced agreement with Iran, an Ebola outbreak, ongoing fighting in Ukraine, and renewed disputes with several European allies.
Shortly before his first meeting, Trump signaled tensions with some members, posting a sharp critique of some European countries’ immigration policies.

Trump&#8217;s first major bilateral meeting will be with French President Emmanuel Macron Monday before joining fellow G7 leaders for the summit&#8217;s opening events in Evian-les-Bains, a resort spa town on the shores of Lake Geneva near the Swiss border.
Over the next three days, Trump is scheduled to hold bilateral meetings with Macron, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 
Trump will also join fellow G7 leaders and invited guests, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, for a series of working sessions focused on Ukraine, the Middle East, economic development, and global trade before concluding the trip on Wednesday.
The summit comes at a pivotal moment for the international community, with Trump announcing that a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Iran has been reached and Vice President JD Vance announcing he will attend a signing ceremony in Switzerland on Friday. In a phone interview with Fox News, Vance said President Trump may also make an appearance, pending logistical planning.
&#8220;I certainly plan to be there. It&#8217;s possible the president himself could be there,&#8221; Vance said. &#8220;We got a lot of work to do, but a very big win for the American people tonight.&#8221;
On Sunday evening, Trump announced that negotiators had finalized a long-sought agreement with Iran that would allow for the immediate reopening of the critical shipping lane.

The precise terms of the agreement remain unclear, particularly regarding Iran&#8217;s nuclear program. According to The New York Times, Trump suggested in an interview on Sunday that he could accept a deal under which Iran suspends uranium enrichment for 15 years.
Such a provision would mark a significant shift from the administration&#8217;s previously stated position. As recently as April 8, Trump <a href="https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrump/posts/116368825638596650">declared</a> on Truth Social that there would be &#8220;no enrichment of Uranium.”
The fallout from the Iran conflict and the newly announced agreement with Tehran is likely to loom large over discussions at the G7, particularly after tensions flared between Trump and several member states that declined his calls to participate in efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz and instead criticized the U.S. military operation.
Trump publicly expressed frustration with the United Kingdom for its reluctance to become involved, blasted France after officials criticized the strikes, said Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni lacked courage, and lashed out at German Chancellor Friedrich Merz after the German leader suggested Iran had “humiliated” the United States.

Following the dispute, Trump announced the withdrawal of thousands of U.S. troops from Germany, though part of that move was later offset by deployments to Poland.
France, which holds the current G7 presidency, is seeking areas of cooperation to cool tensions. The war in Ukraine will also be a central focus of the summit. Zelensky is expected to attend as Kyiv is making notable territorial gains against Russia, but is seeking more U.S. missiles.

They also said that they were &#8220;deeply concerned about the situation in Lebanon&#8221; where Israel is rooting out Hezbollah, an Iranian-backed terrorist group that is arguably the largest, most advanced, and most heavily armed terrorist group in the world.
Hezbollah has fired approximately 9,000 missiles, rockets, and drones at northern Israel since Hamas&#8217; October 7 terrorist attack which has forced tens of thousands of Israelis to be displaced from their homes for nearly a full year.

A <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/news/g7-finance-ministers-statement-on-russias-war-of-aggression-against-ukraine">statement</a> from the nations’ finance ministers published on Friday affirms that the bloc “will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes” by banning the sale of Russian oil above a certain price.
“We seek to establish a broad coalition in order to maximize effectiveness and urge all countries that still seek to import Russian oil and petroleum products to commit to doing so only at prices at or below the price cap,” the statement explained. “We reaffirm our own measures to phase out Russian oil and products from our domestic markets and underscore that the price cap measure aims to relieve pressure on global oil prices and support oil-importing countries globally by enabling continued access to Russian oil at or below the price cap for countries that continue such imports.”
The initial price cap will be established based upon “a range of technical inputs,” according to the statement, which acknowledged that each of the 27 nations in the European Union must unanimously affirm the plan.
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a <a href="https://home.treasury.gov/news/press-releases/jy0936">statement</a> that the price cap is “one of the most powerful tools we have to fight inflation” caused by future geopolitical events. “By committing to finalize and implement a price cap, the G7 will significantly reduce Russia’s main source of funding for its illegal war, while maintaining supplies to global energy markets by keeping Russian oil flowing at lower prices,” she remarked. “While we’ve seen energy prices ease in the United States, energy costs remain a concern for Americans and continue to be elevated globally.”
The national average price of gasoline was $2.38 per gallon when President Joe Biden assumed office, according to <a href="https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=PET&amp;s=EMM_EPMR_PTE_NUS_DPG&amp;f=W">data</a> from the Energy Information Administration, and increased to $3.53 per gallon by the start of the Russian invasion. The strongest language came in the statement&#8217;s words regarding consequences of any actions by Russia against Ukraine, noting the &#8220;severe cost&#8221; of any invasion.
&#8220;Any use of force to change borders is strictly prohibited under international law. Russia should be in no doubt that further military aggression against Ukraine would have massive consequences and severe cost in response,&#8221; the G7 leaders declared.
The G7 foreign ministers also commended Ukraine&#8217;s restraint and affirmed the nation&#8217;s sovereignty to conclude the statement.

The leaders of the world’s wealthiest developed nations on Sunday backed a new 15% global minimum tax on corporations, intended to keep the world’s largest companies from being able to dodge taxes by offshoring profits.
&#8220;Critically, the G7 leaders endorsed a global minimum tax of 15 percent. So many corporations have been engaged in what are essentially tax havens, deciding that they would pay considerably less than other — in other environs around the world,&#8221; President Joe Biden said in a press conference in England on Sunday. &#8220;And — but this is going to make sure there’s a minimum tax, and I’m going to have — I’m going to move on this at home as well — a minimum tax for corporations to pay for the profits they make anywhere in the world.&#8221;
&#8220;And this agreement is going to help arrest the race to the bottom that’s been going on among nations attracting corporate investment at the expense of priorities like protecting our workers and investing in infrastructure,&#8221; Biden said.
Under the tax, known as GMT, if a company pays a tax rate lower than the new minimum by using offshore accounts, the company would have to pay the difference to the country in which it is headquartered. &#8220;The policy would also potentially affect some major companies by requiring that they pay taxes in the countries where their good and services are sold, and not just where they are physically present,&#8221; Fox News <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/biden-greets-g-7-with-global-minimum-tax-push-in-hand">reported</a>.
The G-7 is made up of the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan. The group is meeting in the U.K., and the plan is to bring up the GMT in a meeting of the Group of 20 leaders, scheduled for next month.
&#8220;If widely enacted, the GMT would effectively end the practice of global corporations seeking out low-tax jurisdictions like Ireland and the British Virgin Islands to move their headquarters to, even though their customers, operations and executives are located elsewhere,&#8221; CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2021/06/11/biden-and-g-7-leaders-will-endorse-a-global-minimum-corporate-tax.html">reported</a>.
Biden has offered support for a plan to increase the U.S. corporate tax rate to 28% from 21%, along with a slew of other tax increases. A study released last September said the plan would raise taxes by $3.4 trillion on Americans and corporations over the next decade.
The Penn Wharton Budget Model, a nonpartisan group at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, put out the study. In addition to trillions more in taxes, the study projected that Biden’s platform would raise federal spending by about $5.4 trillion — or roughly 24% of gross domestic product by 2030, Fox Business <a href="https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/biden-platform-would-raise-taxes-by-3-4t-study-says">reported</a>.
“The spending plan, which is more than double what Hillary Clinton proposed during the 2016 campaign, would be funded by a slew of new taxes, including a corporate tax hike. Biden’s trillion-dollar proposals signal that he’ll continue the unprecedented level of government spending that began in mid-March as American life came to a grinding halt because of the COVID-19 crisis,” Fox wrote.
The Wharton <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/biden-after-rejecting-progressive-spending-plans-now-hones-multi-trillion-dollar-budget-11600075802">study</a> found that nearly 80% of Biden’s tax increases would hit the top 1% of earners in the U.S. But the study also found that Biden’s platform would bring the largest federal budget increase since Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern in 1972 pledged to deliver a guaranteed minimum income for all Americans, which never happened.

“And I think that is what the people of our countries now want us to focus on,” the conservative PM continued.
“They want us to be sure that we’re beating the pandemic together and discussing how we’ll never have a repeat of what we’ve seen, but also that we’re building back better together,&#8221; Johnson said. &#8220;And building back greener and building back fairer and building back more equal and in a more gender-neutral and perhaps a more feminine way. It was not the only moment during the G7 that Biden appeared to struggle as he repeatedly referred to Libya as he spoke to the press.
Biden said [emphasis added]:

So I’m hopeful that we can find an accommodation that — where we can save the lives of people in — for example, in — in Libya, that — consistent with the interest of — maybe for different reasons — but reached it for the same reason — the same result.</blockquote>
