This evening, Members of Congress will come together publicly, not to debate or campaign, but to pray for America in a National Prayer Call.
In a first, the House Freedom Caucus and the Family Research Council will host a national call to prayer titled, “Congress Prays for America.” It will unite Members of Congress, Christian leaders, and Americans across the country to do what is desperately needed in this moment: humble ourselves before God and seek His guidance for our nation.
This couldn’t come at a more urgent time. In the wake of the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a young Christian leader who devoted his life to calling this generation back to truth and faith, our country is being forced to confront its spiritual crisis. Political violence, moral confusion, and hatred have filled the void where faith and grace once stood. It’s not just a political problem — it’s a spiritual one.
The answer to the kind of darkness America is facing won’t come from another government program or campaign speech. It will come from personal and corporate repentance, humility, and a national return to God.
That’s what this prayer call is about.
For decades, Washington has treated faith as something to be kept private — to be tolerated but never proclaimed. Lawmakers have been told that prayer belongs in the pews, not the halls of Congress. But America’s founders knew better. They opened every session of Congress with prayer because they knew the affairs of men could not prosper without the wisdom of Heaven.
When Congress prays, Members are reminded that we are not the ultimate authority — God is.
On Thursday night, Members will pray for an end to political violence. They will pray for our President, for Congress, for the people impacted by the ongoing shutdown, and for peace and protection in Israel.
The same faith that once guided the founding of this nation can still renew it today. We need a revival of courage, conviction, and compassion in our government. We need leaders who remember that the Constitution protects freedom of religion, not freedom from it.
That’s why this call matters.
When Members of Congress bow their heads together, they acknowledge that the power to restore this nation doesn’t lie in the levers of politics, but in the hands of Providence. God can bring revival to the very place where division has taken root: the United States Capitol.
This isn’t just a national prayer call from Congress. It’s a step toward something our country desperately needs — a spiritual revival and awakening. 
America’s hope doesn’t rest in Washington, but it can start there.

In recent weeks, the American people have witnessed a troubling rise in violent crime, coordinated attacks on public safety, and brazen assaults on the rule of law.
These are not isolated incidents — they are the natural outgrowth of a radical ideology that seeks to undermine our institutions, erase our borders, and excuse lawlessness in the name of politics. Unfortunately, the same voices in Washington who clamor to “abolish ICE” are the ones pushing policies that fuel the very chaos now destabilizing communities.
Sanctuary city mandates tie the hands of law enforcement, allowing dangerous criminals to slip back into neighborhoods. Open-border rhetoric invites record waves of illegal immigration, straining hospitals, schools, and public services, and a refusal to prosecute repeat offenders fosters a culture of repeat violence.
Together, these policies are not just misguided  — they are dangerous. They create fertile ground for extremism, criminal networks, and even terrorism to take root here at home.
America cannot afford to indulge in these ideological experiments. Our first duty as a nation is to protect our citizens. That begins with secure borders, strong enforcement, and unwavering support for the agencies tasked with carrying out that mission.
ICE is not the problem — it is part of the solution.
The House Freedom Caucus has consistently backed measures to give ICE the resources, authority, and cooperation it needs to succeed. We support programs like the 287(g) partnerships that allow local law enforcement to work directly with ICE to detain and remove criminal aliens before they reoffend. We have opposed reckless sanctuary policies that put ideology above safety, and we continue to push for stronger penalties against traffickers, gang members, and those who exploit our immigration system to carry out crimes.
The contrast could not be clearer: while the Left’s radical ideology excuses lawlessness and undermines those sworn to protect us, the Freedom Caucus stands firmly with ICE, law enforcement, and the American people.
ICE officers put their lives on the line daily. They deserve the support of Congress and the full weight of the federal government behind them, and they deserve a country willing to reject radical ideologies that put criminals ahead of citizens.
The path forward is simple: support ICE, enforce the law, and reject the destructive agenda that fuels lawlessness. The Freedom Caucus is proud to lead that fight. America’s safety, sovereignty, and future depend on it.

IRVING, Texas — Republican Governor Ron DeSantis said Friday night that he planned to remain on “offense” in Florida as he pressed conservative lawmakers gathered from across the country to govern boldly. 
DeSantis, whose time as governor has been punctuated by major conservative victories from education to illegal immigration, said he hopes to push Florida to have greater medical freedom and to eliminate property taxes. He made the remarks during a keynote address at the second annual State Freedom Caucus Summit at the Omni Las Colinas Hotel just outside Dallas.
“I didn&#8217;t get in there to be mushy on policy,” DeSantis said. “I knew what I believed.  I told people what I was going to do. And my view was, I&#8217;m sitting at the desk the first day I was governor, I looked around the office, no decorations yet, it was empty, and I said, you know, I don&#8217;t know what SOB’s going to succeed me in this office, but they are not going to have anything to do.”
DeSantis was a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus, a coalition of House Republicans who have fought to reign in federal spending and to advance conservative policies at the federal level. The State Freedom Caucus Network was founded in 2021 with the goal of creating state level organizations of conservative lawmakers and equipping them with “the high-level staff, strategy, and community conservatives need to take ground across the country.”
On the lines of medical freedom, Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced that the state would seek to end all vaccine mandates, including requirements for schools. DeSantis said Friday that he didn&#8217;t believe government should coerce people into certain treatment. He also said people couldn&#8217;t truly have private property if they effectively had to pay &#8220;rent&#8221; to the government for it.
During his speech, DeSantis highlighted his record on fighting lockdowns during COVID, battles to protect parental rights in education, elimination of DEI at public universities, and fights with Disney.
“ I think woke ideology is toxic whether it&#8217;s being imposed by a government agency, or whether it&#8217;s being imposed by a multinational corporation. I think it&#8217;s wrong,” DeSantis said.
The Florida governor also celebrated the Thursday <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/court-allows-floridas-alligator-alcatraz-to-remain-open-for-business?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=0&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Court+Allows+Florida’s+Alligator+Alcatraz+To+Remain+‘Open+For+Business’">decision</a> from the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals that blocked a lower court’s order to shut down the Everglades-based illegal alien detention center known as Alligator Alcatraz.
“Every time I get out of bed in the morning, I get sued by the Left,” DeSantis said. “You can&#8217;t be worried about getting sued, you know that&#8217;s what they&#8217;re gonna do, and they go to liberal judges, and we know based on the judge, we have no chance at the trial court, and so we know we&#8217;ll just win on appeal.”
He said that Florida would be partnering with the Trump administration to establish other illegal alien detention centers.
DeSantis said that Florida’s massive shift to the Right under his leadership showed the impact of governing conservatively, saying that “people respond to results.”
“It&#8217;s not always easy,” he said. “None of this is cost free, but it&#8217;s worth it. And what we are doing in these states by showing that conservative policies that built this country, that our Founding Fathers believed in, we show that those work, that people vote with their feet &#8212; that is the best possible evidence we can produce to show people this is the way forward, not just us, for our kids and our grandkids.”

The conservative <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/freedom-caucus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Freedom Caucus</a> unveiled on Monday a strategy that seeks to avoid a &#8220;lame duck&#8221; omnibus package that could extend Democrat priorities into a second term of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/donald-trump" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Donald Trump</a> as president and would throw in a bill that requires voters to prove citizenship.
Congress has until the <a href="https://spectrumnews1.com/oh/columbus/news/2024/07/29/budget-appropriations-recess-congress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">end of September</a> to pass legislation to fund the various arms of the federal government or face the prospect of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/government-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">shutdown</a>, but the GOP-led House is not expected to return from summer recess until three weeks before that deadline. If lawmakers cannot pass individual spending bills, they could resort to a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pork-parks-and-woke-all-the-fun-features-in-1-7-trillion-omnibus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">massive omnibus</a> full of pork and perks.
The Freedom Caucus, which includes a few dozen members, &#8220;believes that House Republicans should return to Washington to continue the work of passing all 12 appropriations bills to cut spending and advance our policy priorities,&#8221; the group said in a new statement.

&#8220;If unsuccessful, in the inevitability that Congress considers a Continuing Resolution, government funding should be extended into early 2025 to avoid a lame duck omnibus that preserves Democrat spending and policies well into the next administration,&#8221; the statement continued.
Such a plan for a stop-gap measure bets against Vice President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kamala-harris" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kamala Harris</a>, who replaced President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> atop the Democratic Party&#8217;s ticket, prevailing in the November election as the group noted atop its statement that it would &#8220;ensure Democrats cannot undermine&#8221; a second Trump term with an omnibus in December.
The Freedom Caucus also called for the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-all-house-dems-vote-against-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act</a>, which aims to require individuals show proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in elections for federal office and pushes states to remove non-citizens from voter rolls, to be added to the short-term spending bill.
&#8220;Furthermore, the Continuing Resolution should include the SAVE Act — as called for by President Trump — to prevent non-citizens from voting to preserve free and fair elections in light of the millions of illegal aliens imported by the Biden-Harris administration over the last four years,&#8221; the group said.
While the House <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/nearly-all-house-dems-vote-against-bill-requiring-voters-prove-citizenship" target="_blank" rel="noopener">passed</a> the SAVE Act in July with some bipartisan support, the Democrat-led Senate has not taken it up and the Biden administration signaled its opposition to the legislation. Democrats may rally behind the idea of a continuing resolution, but there could be a flashpoint with conservatives over the SAVE Act. House conservatives <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-another-short-term-spending-bill-rejecting-conservative-bid-for-border-attachment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">failed to get</a> border security reforms attached to a short-term spending bill the chamber passed earlier this year.
Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4815216-speaker-johnson-interview-harris-walz-trump/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told The Hill</a> last week that lawmakers were &#8220;having some very thoughtful discussion about the pros and cons of the various strategies&#8221; on avoiding a government shutdown. He said a decision was &#8220;not yet determined, but it will be very soon.&#8221;
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), a Trump ally, said on Monday that he backs the Freedom Caucus&#8217;s latest plan. &#8220;This is the way. It is the last chance for Democrats (and a few Republicans) to sabotage President Trump’s next term, fund Biden’s disastrous policies, and leave the door open to illegal voting. Don’t let it happen,&#8221; Lee said in a <a href="https://x.com/SenMikeLee/status/1823030235840852227">post</a> to X.
Government spending is no small issue as the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/national-debt" target="_blank" rel="noopener">national debt</a>, which has surged under Republican and Democrat administrations in the White House in recent years, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/national-debt-surpasses-35-trillion-gop-raises-the-alarm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">surpassed</a> $35 trillion for the first time last month. Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA), a former chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, <a href="https://x.com/RepScottPerry/status/1817962607355298217" target="_blank" rel="noopener">warned</a> the debt was on track to reach $36 trillion by mid-November.
&#8220;Today, the U.S. national debt hit $35 trillion &#8211; that&#8217;s $104,497 PER PERSON &#8211; and by mid-November, it&#8217;ll reach $36 trillion,&#8221; Perry said on X. &#8220;The Biden-Harris administration&#8217;s push for more out-of-control spending is unacceptable, and further imperils our great Nation.&#8221;

On Wednesday, the House Freedom Caucus said Rep. <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/bennie-thompson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bennie Thompson</a> (D-MS) should not be allowed to serve on the bipartisan task force to investigate the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump because he introduced a bill that could strip Trump of Secret Service protection under certain conditions.
The group of a few dozen conservative members also pushed for Thompson, who served as chairman of the now-defunct January 6 Committee, to be removed as the top Democrat on the Homeland Security Committee — which has oversight of the Secret Service.
&#8220;In April, Rep. Bennie Thompson launched an effort with other radical progressive Democrats to deny Secret Service protection to President Trump — legislation that he continues to defend even after the attempted assassination on July 13,&#8221; the caucus said in a <a href="https://x.com/freedomcaucus/status/1816097861974495703/photo/1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a>.

&#8220;We therefore urge the removal of Rep. Thompson as Ranking Member of the House Committee on Homeland Security,&#8221; it added. Similarly, his actions should invalidate Rep. Thompson from serving on the task force to investigate the attempted assassination of President Trump.&#8221;
The group concluded, &#8220;Americans cannot trust that he will be an unbiased arbiter of the facts in the effort to get to the bottom of the greatest failure of the Secret Service in more than three decades.&#8221;
Atop the statement was a quote that read, &#8220;Rep. Bennie Thompson Must Not Be Allowed To Soil Another Investigation.&#8221;
Thompson has faced blowback for legislation he <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-january-6-panel-chair-unveils-bill-that-could-strip-trump-of-secret-service-protection" target="_blank" rel="noopener">introduced</a> in April that could strip a protectee of Secret Service protection if this person is convicted of a felony that is punishable with prison time of at least one year and sentenced.
Trump is not mentioned <a href="https://democrats-homeland.house.gov/imo/media/doc/disgraced_former_protectees_act_text.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">in the bill</a>, but, in May a jury <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/verdict-trump-found-guilty-on-all-charges-in-hush-money-case" target="_blank" rel="noopener">convicted</a> Trump on dozens of felony counts in a New York hush-money case. Sentencing has been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/judge-approves-delay-for-trump-sentencing-after-supreme-court-immunity-ruling" target="_blank" rel="noopener">postponed</a> until at least September as Trump seeks to get the <a href="https://abcnews.go.com/US/trump-asks-judge-toss-hush-money-conviction-dismiss/story?id=111807026" target="_blank" rel="noopener">conviction thrown out</a>, but the former president could get prison time.
As <a href="https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2024/jul/13/secret-service-faces-questions-after-donald-trump-/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a> by The Washington Times, Thompson insisted his bill &#8220;would not have affected the Secret Service’s presence&#8221; during the shooting at the Pennsylvania rally and will only apply to Trump if he gets sentenced to prison and is in the custody of another law enforcement agency.
Thompson repeated that claim during a hearing on Tuesday when he stressed that his bill &#8220;makes clear that when a protectee is sentenced and remanded to the custody of prison officials, the Secret Service is able to hand off the prisoner in an orderly fashion,&#8221; <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/07/23/us-news/gopers-slam-dem-bill-that-would-strip-trump-of-security-detail-in-prison-ask-mr-epsteins-family/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">per the New York Post</a>.
But Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX), a member of the Freedom Caucus, and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) have <a href="https://x.com/RepThomasMassie/status/1816124448086294649" target="_blank" rel="noopener">pushed back</a> on Thompson&#8217;s claim by pointing out that the text of the legislation <a href="https://x.com/chiproytx/status/1816133955646869881" target="_blank" rel="noopener">does not mention</a> the requirement about incarceration.
A list of members on the bipartisan task force to investigate the Trump rally shooting is expected to be <a href="https://x.com/MZanona/status/1816130607363043428" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> on Thursday.
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) <a href="https://x.com/MZanona/status/1816129642904051743" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told Punchbowl News reporter Melanie Zanona</a> he did not think Thompson would be a &#8220;good choice&#8221; for the panel. He also said he spoke to Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) about it and does not think it&#8217;s &#8220;gonna be an issue.&#8221;
<a href="https://x.com/emilybrooksnews/status/1816135746346164291" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hill&#8217;s Emily Brooks</a> noted on X that Thompson &#8220;seemed slightly bewildered&#8221; by the House Freedom Caucus statement. &#8220;I don’t even want to be on it,&#8221; Thompson told her. &#8220;I’ve never expressed an interest.&#8221;
Thompson also reportedly <a href="https://x.com/emilybrooksnews/status/1816129223142064621" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he would remain as ranking member while a spokesperson for Jeffries told the Freedom Caucus to &#8220;pipe down.&#8221;

A group of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/u-s-house-of-representatives" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House</a> conservatives are requesting an update from Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/mike-johnson" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mike Johnson</a> (R-LA) on spending negotiations ahead of yet another set of deadlines that could trigger a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/government-shutdown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">government shutdown</a> and suggested a back-up plan that could trigger across-the-board spending cuts if they don&#8217;t win policy concessions.
Members of the Freedom Caucus led by Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) sent a letter to Johnson on Wednesday as a stopgap measure is set to expire in two stages, with funds <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-another-short-term-spending-bill-rejecting-conservative-bid-for-border-attachment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">approved</a> for some federal agencies though March 1 and money to other departments through March 8, and the fiscal 2024 appropriations process remains incomplete.

&#8220;With the expiration of government funding rapidly approaching, negotiations continue behind closed doors and as a result, we anticipate text for likely omnibus legislation that we fear will be released at the latest moment before being rushed to the floor for a vote,&#8221; they wrote. &#8220;House Republicans should not be left in the dark on the status of the spending levels and hard-fought policy provisions.&#8221;
The conservative lawmakers said they want an update on spending talks, &#8220;including but not limited to, the provisions supported by the overwhelming majorities of Republicans and our constitutions,&#8221; such as language related to cracking down on border security, student loan forgiveness, gender transition surgeries, &#8220;Diversity, Equity, Inclusion&#8221; orders, and many other issues.

Last year&#8217;s debt limit deal, called the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA), stipulated a 1% cut to <a href="https://thehill.com/homenews/house/4371974-gop-seeks-upper-hand-as-prospect-of-automatic-budget-cuts-stirs-fears/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">defense and non-defense programs</a> in line with fiscal 2023 levels if Congress fails to pass 12 appropriations bills. The snapback is expected to be enforced if lawmakers <a href="https://federalnewsnetwork.com/budget/2023/12/omb-pushes-1-discretionary-sequestration-requirement-off/?readmore=1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cannot meet an April 30 deadline</a>.
Democrats are sure to oppose such a broad cut-back, but Freedom Caucus members appeared open to the idea as they said the &#8220;far from perfect&#8221; FRA &#8220;offered a meaningful step towards restoring regular order, and presented an opportunity to reduce spending and reverse many of President [Joe] Biden&#8217;s harmful policies.&#8221;
They concluded the letter by asking, &#8220;If we are not going to secure significant policy changes or even keep spending below the caps adopted by bipartisan majorities less than one year ago, why would we proceed when we could instead pass a year-long funding resolution that would save Americans $100 billion in year one?&#8221;

He is slated to begin his term in January 2024.

Over the past year, Good has taken a stand in prominent events. He was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/mccarthy-ousted-from-speakership-after-democrats-side-with-matt-gaetz" target="_blank" rel="noopener">one of eight Republicans</a> who voted with Democrats to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker in October. Warren Davidson (R-OH) wrote <a href="https://twitter.com/juliegraceb/status/1734336769015808473" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a letter</a> announcing he would not seek re-election to the group&#8217;s board while sharing objections to Good taking the top position.
&#8220;I ask that we consider how to best increase our influence while preserving our power to move policy in the right direction. I strongly feel that Bob Good as Chairman will impair that objective,&#8221; Davidson said.
Kevin Roberts, president of the conservative Heritage Foundation think tank, <a href="https://www.heritage.org/press/heritage-foundation-president-dr-kevin-roberts-applauds-representative-bob-goods-appointment" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lauded</a> the House Freedom Caucus for picking Good as its next president.

Buck, 64, is currently serving his fifth term for Colorado&#8217;s 4th Congressional District.
He was first elected to Congress in 2015 and has served on a number of committees, including the House Judiciary and the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Buck also serves on the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Commercial and Administrative Law, and the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship.
He announced his decision to leave the lower chamber of Congress after facing backlash from GOP lawmakers and their constituents who support former President Donald Trump.
The Colorado lawmaker has been taking heat since certifying Joe Biden as the victor of the 2020 presidential election. Although he serves as a member of the pro-Trump House Freedom Caucus, Buck has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-freedom-caucus-member-ken-buck-on-trump-indictment-i-wont-support-his-campaign-if-hes-convicted" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opposed</a> members of the conference who said they would support Trump if he is convicted in his federal indictments or launch an impeachment inquiry into President Biden.
In a September op-ed for The Washington Post, Buck <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/11/01/ken-buck-leaving-congress/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> the inquiry relied &#8220;on an imagined history&#8221; and that the &#8220;serious matter &#8230; should have a foundation of rock-solid facts.&#8221;
Buck also played a key role in ousting former Speaker of the House Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), marking his name as one of the eight Republicans who voted with Democrats to take the gavel away from McCarthy.
Buck also opposed Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan in his bid for speaker, which reportedly led to him receiving death threats and an eviction notice from his Colorado office landlord, who was upset over Buck&#8217;s vote against Jordan.
His fifth term officially ends on January 3, 2025.
During an <a href="https://www.msnbc.com/andrea-mitchell-reports/watch/gop-rep-ken-buck-announces-he-will-not-run-for-re-election-196870725653" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with MSNBC on Wednesday, Buck signaled that other GOP lawmakers would also announce their retirement from office, including Texas Republican Rep. Kay Granger, who also announced she would not seek reelection next year.
&#8220;I am joining Kay and probably some others in the near future, but I&#8217;ve decided that it is time for me to do some other things. I always have been disappointed with our inability in Congress to deal with major issues,&#8221; Buck said.
Granger, 80, <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/gop-reps-ken-buck-kay-granger-announce-wont-run-re-election-rcna123189" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> said in her statement Wednesday that she wants to vacate her seat to allow the younger generation to become leaders in Washington, D.C.
&#8220;As I announce my decision to not seek re-election, I am encouraged by the next generation of leaders in my district,&#8221; she said. &#8220;It&#8217;s time for the next generation to step up and take the mantle and be a strong and fierce representative for the people.&#8221;
&#8220;Although I am not running for re-election, I plan to serve out the remainder of my term and work with our new Speaker and my colleagues to advance our conservative agenda and finish the job I was elected to do,&#8221; Granger added.

President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/joe-biden" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Joe Biden</a> was slammed by Republicans for “fundraising off the weaponization of justice” after he posted a 2024 campaign pitch asking for donations as former President Donald Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-returns-to-twitter-posts-mugshot-and-links-to-donations-page" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was being processed</a> at a jail in Georgia. 
Trump was processed in Fulton County jail Thursday evening shortly after 7:30 p.m. EST, where he had a mugshot taken and posted his $200,000 bond. The former president is facing 13 felony charges for his actions in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election. Around the time he was being booked, Biden’s account posted a request for donations on X.
“Apropos of nothing, I think today&#8217;s a great day to give to my campaign,” Biden <a href="https://twitter.com/JoeBiden/status/1694854654834643104" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. 
Biden was widely condemned by Republican officials and conservative commentators, who said the president was using the arrest of his political rival to raise money. 
“Biden celebrates the weaponization of the justice system against his political enemies by asking for campaign contributions,” the House Freedom Caucus <a href="https://twitter.com/freedomcaucus/status/1695075166928163155" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>. “When government funding runs out 9/30, Democrats want a shutdown instead of reforming the DOJ to go after real criminals instead of political witch hunts.”
Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) called the fundraising pitch from Biden “appalling.”

Reciting a figure given by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ), Good said 85% of &#8220;essential operations&#8221; would continue. He also contended that most Americans &#8220;won&#8217;t even miss if the government is shut down temporarily.&#8221;
On social media, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA) shot back at Good with a short list of services he said federal agencies would be unable to provide during a government shutdown.
&#8220;The [Federal Housing Administration] can&#8217;t process loans and mortgage approvals. The [Food and Drug Administration] can&#8217;t conduct food safety inspections. The [Small Business Administration] can&#8217;t process loans to help start small businesses. The [Environmental Protection Agency] can&#8217;t inspect drinking water systems and chemical facilities,&#8221; the Democrat <a href="https://twitter.com/GerryConnolly/status/1683879807379968002">said</a> in a post.
Members of the Freedom Caucus have been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-conservatives-make-spending-demands-to-rein-in-bidens-radical-woke-government">putting pressure on House leadership</a> to bend to their demands on appropriations or risk losing critical votes following this spring&#8217;s bipartisan deal to avoid a default on the U.S. debt.
Good was responding to a two-part question from a reporter, who asked if there were concerns about a government shutdown in October — the start of the new fiscal year — and whether Freedom Caucus-approved spending legislation could get through the Democrat-controlled Senate.

In rounding out his response, Good argued that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) &#8220;has an opportunity to be a transformational, historical speaker that stared down the Democrats, that stared down the free-spenders, that stared down the president, and said, &#8216;No, we&#8217;re going to do what the American people elected us to do.'&#8221;
&#8220;We&#8217;re going to pass a good Republican bill out of the House and force the Senate and the White House to accept it, or we&#8217;re not going to move forward,&#8221; Good added. &#8220;What would happen if Republicans for once stared down the Democrats and were the ones who refused to cave and to betray the American people and the trust they put in us when they gave us the majority? Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO), a member of the pro-Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/freedom-caucus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">House Freedom Caucus</a>, said during an interview on Tuesday that he will not support former President Donald Trump&#8217;s campaign if a court convicts him of the charges contained in the federal indictment against him.
Buck&#8217;s comments come as Trump <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trump-turns-himself-in-to-authorities-at-miami-court" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appeared</a> before federal Magistrate Judge Jonathan Goodman in the Southern District of Florida on Tuesday where he pleaded not guilty to 37 felony counts for his alleged retention of national defense information, his alleged attempts to obstruct the investigation, and for allegedly lying to investigators.
Buck, who is a former federal prosecutor, said that the allegations in the indictment were &#8220;very serious&#8221; and that the prosecutors in the case went into great detail to explain to the American public why they believe that the indictment was necessary.
Buck said that he was concerned about equal treatment under the law in the case because Democrats like Hillary Clinton engaged in similar conduct as the former president, but did not face an indictment.
When asked during a CNN interview if he would feel comfortable with Trump as president again given the allegations contained in the indictment, Buck said, &#8220;I would not feel comfortable with a convicted felon in the White House, so we’ll see how the case plays out and we’ll see how the evidence is presented and what the defenses are.&#8221;
&#8220;But let’s just look at Donald Trump’s words in 2016,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;He said that Hillary Clinton was unfit for the White House because of the way she handled classified information. He said that she wasn’t even qualified to have a low-level State Department job because of the way she handled information. So I think his words have set the standard that America will look at in determining whether he is fit for president.&#8221;
Buck noted that Trump was “innocent until proven guilty&#8221; and that &#8220;after the trial, if he’s convicted of these charges, of mishandling this information, of knowingly concealing his actions, I certainly won’t support a convicted felon for the White House.&#8221;
Buck said that Trump could be facing a third criminal indictment in the near future and that the indictments will have a significant impact on the voters in the middle who determine the outcome of elections.

The bill, known as the Fiscal Responsibility Act, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/senate-passes-debt-ceiling-bill-to-avert-default-ahead-of-x-date" target="_blank" rel="noopener">will suspend</a> the debt limit until January 2025 and implement restraints on spending that the Congressional Budget Office estimated would reduce budget deficits by $1.5 trillion over the next decade.

The bill was hashed out through a deal between House Speaker <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/kevin-mccarthy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kevin McCarthy</a> (R-CA) and Biden. It passed both the House and the Senate with more Democrat votes in favor than Republican, with some conservative lawmakers saying that it didn’t cut down on spending enough. 
In the House, 149 Republicans joined 165 Democrats in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/house-passes-mccarthy-biden-debt-ceiling-compromise-bill" target="_blank" rel="noopener">voting for</a> the bill, while in the Senate 17 Republicans joined 46 Democrats in supporting the measure. 
The bill was supported by leadership in both parties, including Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and McCarthy in the House. 
“We prevented a catastrophic default that would have decimated our economy and [inflicted] immense pain on families,” Schumer <a href="https://twitter.com/SenSchumer/status/1664470685224140801" target="_blank" rel="noopener">tweeted</a>. “We preserved the lion’s share of the historic investments we made. We took off the table the worst parts of the MAGA Republican plan that would have hurt families.”
The bill was <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-disaster-republican-senators-voice-opposition-to-mccarthy-biden-debt-ceiling-deal" target="_blank" rel="noopener">strongly opposed</a> by many Republican senators, including Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY).

“I think the Biden-McCarthy debt deal is a disaster for the country. It does not significantly change the trajectory of the debt. Each year we’ll spend more money and the debt will grow $4 trillion in two years. It’s not very conservative,” Paul <a href="https://www.kktv.com/video/2023/05/31/sen-rand-paul-reacts-deal-debt-ceiling/">told</a> reporters this week.
In the House, the bill was opposed by many in the House Freedom Caucus, who took issue with many aspects of the deal, including the provision that punts the debt ceiling into 2025. 
McCarthy declared the deal a win for conservatives. “Maybe it doesn’t do everything for everyone, but this is a step in the right direction that no one thought that we would be able to today,” <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/speaker-kevin-mccarthy-touts-wins-conservatives-secured-in-tentative-debt-ceiling-agreement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">McCarthy said</a>. “I’ll debate this bill with anybody. Is it everything I wanted? No, because we don’t control all of it. But it is the biggest rescission in history. It is the biggest cut Congress has ever voted for in that process.”
