The Ford Motor Company has been hiring humans again after finding that artificial intelligence (AI) could not match the expertise of experienced technicians.  
Over the past three years, the second-largest U.S.-based automaker <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgrkd41n2v9o">reportedly</a> said it rehired more than 300 &#8220;veteran&#8221; quality inspectors, including former Ford employees and engineers from other automotive suppliers, after automated systems fell short. 
“Over prior years, we didn’t pay as much attention as we should have to the experience of our most knowledgeable engineers that have been with us through many product cycles,” Ford Vice President of Vehicle Hardware Engineering Charles Poon said to reporters.
Ford&#8217;s renewed emphasis on experienced engineers coincided with improved vehicle quality. It <a href="https://www.fromtheroad.ford.com/us/en/articles/2026/ford-tops-jd-power-initial-quality-study">ranked</a> first among mainstream brands in the 2026 JD Power U.S. Initial Quality Study after placing 15th in 2023, a turnaround Ford has attributed to its renewed focus on experienced engineers.
The human employees were tasked with conducting mandatory weekly design reviews, identifying potential failure points in blueprints, and serving as internal auditors.
Ford had previously embraced AI across its operations. CEO Jim Farley predicted the technology would “leave a lot of white collar people behind,” while Chief Operating Officer Kumar Galhorta said AI would be used “across the entire industrial system.”
Ford&#8217;s plans included installing 900 AI-powered cameras in manufacturing plants and expanding AI-assisted engineering tools meant to tackle &#8220;quality issues&#8221; in the production process. But Poon said those systems fell short. 
“Mistakenly, we thought that by just introducing artificial intelligence and ingesting the design requirements that we had, that would produce a high-quality product,” Poon said.
Poon said AI remains &#8220;a fantastic tool,&#8221; but emphasized the technology is &#8220;only as good as the information you use to train it.&#8221;

&#8220;It’s hard to make out the full sentence shouted at Trump, but it seems to have included the words ‘pedophile protector,'&#8221; the outlet reported. Trump could be seen turning to look at the person who had shouted at him before apparently saying, &#8220;f*ck you,&#8221; and flipping him a middle finger for good measure.
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung addressed the video as it circulated, explaining, &#8220;A lunatic was wildly screaming expletives in a complete fit of rage, and the President gave an appropriate and unambiguous response.&#8221;
Throughout most of the president&#8217;s tour, the plant workers crowded around him as they shook his hand and posed for photos.

While he was at the Detroit automotive plant, Trump also sat for an interview with new &#8220;CBS Evening News&#8221; anchor Tony Dokoupil.
In that interview, among a number of other topics, Trump talked about what was going on in the auto industry – particularly since he&#8217;d put a stop to imminent electric vehicle mandates set in motion by former President Joe Biden&#8217;s administration.

TOKYO — Long associated with American ruggedness, pickup trucks such as Ford&#8217;s top-selling F-150 have now become a symbol of international trade talks, showing how far countries such as Japan will go to win over U.S. President Donald Trump.
When Trump met Japan&#8217;s new prime minister and first female premier, Sanae Takaichi, in Tokyo on Tuesday, an F-150 was parked prominently outside the Akasaka Palace venue.
Burly U.S. pickup trucks are a rare sight in the Japanese capital, where the streets are narrow and turns can be tight.
But the placement of the F-150, which is not typically available for sale in Japan, sent a clear message about Tokyo&#8217;s willingness to buy more cars from its ally, an issue that has been a sticking point for Trump for decades.
Last week, Reuters reported that Takaichi&#8217;s government was working on a package to buy F-150 trucks, an idea originally floated by Trump, as well as soybeans and gas.
&#8220;Well, that&#8217;s great. She has good taste,&#8221; Trump told reporters on Air Force One, when asked about the report. &#8220;That’s a hot truck.&#8221;
In August, Trump said Japan was ready to purchase the &#8220;very beautiful&#8221; F-150.
It was not clear how many F-150s Japan planned to buy.
Japanese government sources have told Reuters the trucks would probably end up being used as snow plows, given their size.
Japan and Europe, Trump has often argued, refuse to accept U.S. cars even as Japanese and European automakers sell millions of their vehicles each year in the United States.
The F-150 won&#8217;t be the first American car brought in to Japan to help ease trade friction. Three decades ago, Toyota responded to U.S. pressure by selling a mid-sized General Motors car under its own brand in Japan.
The Toyota Cavalier was introduced with much fanfare, sold poorly, and quietly faded after a few years, said John Shook, a former Toyota manager and an auto industry veteran in both Japan and the United States.
A third of the 3.7 million new cars sold in Japan last year were mini or &#8220;kei&#8221; cars, tiny vehicles that are not produced by American automakers.
Foreign cars accounted for 6% of new car sales overall, with European brands among some of the top sellers, industry data showed, while Ford itself pulled out of Japan almost a decade ago.
Separately, Trump said Toyota would open auto plants in the United States to the tune of $10 billion.
A Toyota spokesperson was not immediately available to comment on Trump&#8217;s remarks.

The &#8220;Big Three&#8221; U.S. car companies are disappointed in President Donald Trump&#8217;s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/both-countries-will-become-stronger-trumps-trade-deal-will-give-u-s-more-access-to-u-k-economy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">trade agreement</a> with the United Kingdom, claiming that the deal will harm &#8220;American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers.&#8221;
The American Automotive Policy Council (AAPC), which represents Ford, General Motors, and Stellantis, released a <a href="https://www.americanautomakers.org/american-automakers-statement-trump-administrations-united-kingdom-trade-announcement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Thursday criticizing Trump&#8217;s trade deal with Britain shortly after the agreement was announced in the Oval Office. Trump and his trade officials hailed the deal as a major victory for the president&#8217;s economic agenda, but U.S. car manufacturers argue that it prioritizes the United Kingdom &#8220;ahead of our North American partners.&#8221;
Ford, GM, and Stellantis, which make some of their vehicles in Canada and Mexico, are upset that U.K. car companies will only pay a 10% tariff to export to the U.S. market while the American automakers continue to face a 25% tariff for vehicles manufactured outside of the country.
“The U.S. automotive industry is highly integrated with Canada and Mexico; the same is not true for the U.S. and UK. We are disappointed that the administration prioritized the UK ahead of our North American partners,&#8221; said Matt Blunt, the former Missouri GOP governor who is now the AAPC president. &#8220;Under this deal, it will now be cheaper to import a UK vehicle with very little U.S. content than a USMCA compliant vehicle from Mexico or Canada that is half American parts. This hurts American automakers, suppliers, and auto workers.&#8221;
In a statement to <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/05/08/business/us-automakers-furious-at-trumps-trade-deal-with-uk-and-heres-why/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the New York Post</a> on Friday, the White House responded to the automakers&#8217; statement, defending the deal with the United Kingdom.
&#8220;No president has taken a greater personal interest in reviving the American auto industry than President Trump. The Trump administration is working hand-in-glove with automakers to reshore manufacturing that is critical to our national and economic security, including with custom-tailored tariff relief and deregulatory policies,&#8221; said White House spokesman Kush Desai.
Trump, through his 25% tariff on auto imports, has been pushing American auto manufacturers to bring manufacturing back to the United States from Canada and Mexico. Last month, the president agreed to provide some tariff relief to U.S. car companies, preventing additional tariffs from stacking on top of each other in exchange for the companies&#8217; commitments to furthering their domestic production. The &#8220;Big Three&#8221; automakers are now concerned that foreign competition from the United Kingdom will get the upper hand following Trump&#8217;s trade deal.
Trump&#8217;s agreement with the United Kingdom will allow the country to export up to 100,000 cars to the United States for a 10% tariff, a decrease from the president&#8217;s 25% duty on other foreign auto imports. In 2024, nearly 16 million total vehicles were sold in the United States. Some of the top-selling British brands include Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, and Range Rover. Rolls-Royce engines will also be allowed to come into the United States tariff-free.
&#8220;This historic deal delivers for British business and British workers, protecting thousands of British jobs in key sectors including car manufacturing and steel,&#8221; British Prime Minister Keir Starmer <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp92r2kvk74o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>.
U.K. Business Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp92r2kvk74o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BBC</a> that the trade deal came just in time as the country was close to losing thousands of auto manufacturing jobs due to Trump&#8217;s tariffs.
&#8220;This was very serious,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It would have meant people would have lost their jobs without this breakthrough.&#8221;
The AAPC added that it hopes &#8220;this preferential access for UK vehicles over North American ones does not set a precedent for future negotiations with Asian and European competitors.&#8221;

Americans will soon feel the pinch of President Donald Trump&#8217;s tariffs if they&#8217;re looking to buy certain Ford vehicles, according to a notice sent to dealers and obtained by Reuters.
Citing Trump&#8217;s tariff on foreign vehicle imports, Ford is increasing the prices of its Mustang Mach-E electric SUV, Maverick pickup truck, and Bronco Sport by as much as $2,000, Reuters <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/07/ford-hikes-prices-on-mexico-produced-models-citing-tariffs.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The price increase will only affect vehicles built after May 2, which are expected to arrive at U.S. dealerships in late June, according to a Ford spokesman.
The spokesman added that the price increase reflects “usual” mid-year actions &#8220;combined with some tariffs we are facing.&#8221;
&#8220;We have not passed on the full cost of tariffs to our customers,&#8221; the spokesman added.
The price increase will likely be seen after Ford ends its major <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/from-america-for-america-ford-offering-major-discounts-as-tariffs-kick-in" target="_blank" rel="noopener">discount offer</a> for American buyers. Ford is currently offering customers employee pricing until June 2, which it says is &#8220;worth thousands of dollars&#8221; in savings.
In an effort to push for more American car production, Trump imposed a 25% tariff on auto imports, affecting around eight million vehicles imported to the United States each year. Late last month, Trump<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/a-major-victory-trump-makes-deal-with-auto-industry-for-tariff-relief" target="_blank" rel="noopener"> made a deal</a> with the auto industry to relieve some of the tariff pressure, signing an order to prevent auto tariffs from “stacking” on top of each other in exchange for manufacturers&#8217; continued focus on domestic production. While auto manufacturers will continue to pay the 25% tariff on auto imports under the new deal, they won&#8217;t be hit with additional tariffs, such as the 25% tax on steel and aluminum.
Car companies, including Ford, suspended their annual earnings guidance for 2025 over the tariffs. Ford said earlier this week that it expects to see a $2.5 billion impact from Trump&#8217;s tariffs, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/05/05/ford-motor-f-earnings-q1-2025.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The Michigan-based auto company has yet to announce any plans to ramp up domestic manufacturing or move plants from Mexico to the United States. After Trump relieved some tariff pressure on car companies, Ford CEO Jim Farley <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/29/trump-auto-tariffs.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vowed</a> to “continue to work closely with the administration in support of the president’s vision for a healthy and growing auto industry in America.&#8221;

The White House confirmed on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will sign an order protecting the auto industry from tariffs &#8220;stacking&#8221; on top of each other in exchange for continued focus on domestic production.
Auto manufacturers will continue to pay a 25% tariff for imported vehicles, but Trump&#8217;s order will prevent any additional tariffs, such as the 25% tax on steel and aluminum, from affecting car companies, CNBC <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2025/04/29/trump-auto-tariffs.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Trump&#8217;s order will be retroactive, allowing automakers to receive reimbursements for tariffs they have already paid, according to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/autos/trump-tariffs-autos-exceptions-fc634efd?mod=hp_lead_pos1" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a>.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said during a White House press briefing on Tuesday that the president&#8217;s move shows a commitment to bringing car manufacturing back to the United States. “We want to give the automakers a path to do that quickly, efficiently, and create as many jobs as possible,” he said.
The change comes after automakers called on the Trump administration to provide some relief from the tariffs that have been stacking up on the car industry. Six lobbyists representing U.S. automotive groups joined forces last week to argue against implementing tariffs on foreign auto parts, a tax that is set to take effect on May 3.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday that the 25% tariff on foreign auto parts will also be modified, allowing car manufacturers to be reimbursed up to 3.75% of the value of the U.S.-made car in the first year. The reimbursement would drop to 2.5% of the car&#8217;s value in the second year and then be phased out.
In exchange for the tariff relief, car manufacturers reportedly committed to furthering domestic production, a key point for the Trump administration.
“President Trump is building an important partnership with both the domestic automakers and our great American workers,” said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. “This deal will be a major victory for the president’s trade policy by rewarding companies who are already manufacturing domestically, while providing a runway to manufacturers who have expressed their commitment in investing in America and expanding domestic manufacturing.”
The Ford Motor Company thanked the president for the tariff relief, saying in a statement, “Ford welcomes and appreciates these decisions by President Trump, which will help mitigate the impact of tariffs on automakers, suppliers and consumers.”
&#8220;We will continue to work closely with the administration in support of the president’s vision for a healthy and growing auto industry in America,&#8221; Ford CEO Jim Farley added. &#8220;Ford sees policies that encourage exports and ensure affordable supply chains to promote more domestic growth as essential.&#8221;
Stellantis Chair John Elkann added, “Stellantis appreciates the tariff relief measures decided by President Trump. While we further assess the impact of the tariff policies on our North American operations, we look forward to our continued collaboration with the U.S. Administration to strengthen a competitive American auto industry and stimulate exports.”
General Motors CEO Mary Barra also expressed her gratitude for the &#8220;productive conversations with the President and his Administration.&#8221;

As noted by Croley, 80% of Ford&#8217;s U.S.-sold vehicles are built here in the U.S., shielding the company from some of the new tariffs.
Reuters <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/ford-offer-across-the-board-discounts-jumping-recent-tariff-induced-sales-bump-2025-04-02/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that the deal applies to most of Ford&#8217;s vehicles, including the Mustang Mach-E and Maverick. However, Super Duty trucks and some other vehicles are exempt.

The car companies joined a growing group of executives and corporate giants to shell out funds for Trump’s inauguration. Toyota, a Japanese-based company, became the latest to promise to pitch in for Trump’s ceremony in a statement to the <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/26/us-news/toyota-ford-and-general-motors-join-sprint-to-donate-millions-to-trumps-inauguration-fund/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a>.
Ford and General Motors confirmed their support in statements earlier this week, according to Reuters. All three automakers are at varying degrees of risk to take financial hits from tariffs, which Trump has threatened against a host of countries to drive American interests.
“(Given) Ford&#8217;s employment profile and importance in the U.S. economy and manufacturing, you can imagine the administration will be very interested in Ford’s point of view,” Ford CEO Jim Farley told reporters this month when asked about Trump’s tariff threats.
The carmakers’ support for Trump’s inauguration comes alongside a flood of other corporate donations, including nearly a dozen companies that denounced challenges to the 2020 election and Trump’s actions on January 6, 2021, according to <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/trump-inauguration-sponsors-large-company-donations-a3cc1b92" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Wall Street Journal</a>.

General Motors, Ford, and Toyota all fall within the category of those companies that boycotted groups that supported 2020 election challenges. Other major companies within that group include AT&amp;T, Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, Intuit, the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, and Stanley Black &amp; Decker.
Trump’s 2017 inauguration received donations of $1 million or more from 18 companies. Trump’s inauguration next month is on track to receive more megadonors than that, WSJ reported. Trump’s 2017 inauguration received a total of $107 million in donations, another mark on track to be passed.
Trump’s team has offered perks to those donors who donate at least $1 million or who raise $2 million from others, including six tickets to a reception with cabinet picks and a dinner with Trump and his wife, Melania.

Multiple large corporations are pumping the brakes on their ultra-woke diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives as Americans are sending them a strong message: they want quality products over political stunts. 
It’s good to see that some companies are finally recognizing the disastrous effect of their downright discriminatory practices. 
As first revealed by conservative activist <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/pure-lunacy-robby-starbuck-on-exposing-dei-in-corporate-america">Robby Starbuck</a> on X, Ford, Harley-Davidson, Lowe’s, Tractor Supply, Molson Coors, and Jack Daniel’s distiller Brown-Forman have all recently pulled back on DEI and LGBT hiring initiatives. Some of these companies announced changes after Starbuck emailed corporate offices, asking about their woke policies. 
Late last month, Lowe’s <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/lowes-cuts-ties-with-leftist-activist-group-scales-back-dei-initiatives">told</a> its employees that it would no longer fund LGBT “Pride” events or participate in the corporate equality index, which is run by the leftist Human Rights Council (HRC). In a memo, Lowe’s cited the Supreme Court ruling affirmative action admission practices at universities unconstitutional. 
“Like many other companies, in July 2023 after the Supreme Court’s decision in the Harvard/UNC cases, we began reviewing our diversity and inclusion programs to ensure that they are lawful and aligned with our commitment to include everyone in the incredible opportunities at Lowe’s and ensure that no one is excluded,” the company wrote.
Harley-Davidson similarly <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/harley-davidson-becomes-latest-company-to-back-away-from-dei-policies">said</a> last month, “It is critical to our business that we hire and retain the best talent and that all employees feel welcome. That said, we have not operated a DEI function since April 2024, and we do not have a DEI function today. We do not have hiring quotas and we no longer have supplier diversity goals.”
Ford also <a href="https://www.wsj.com/business/ford-coors-gay-rights-index-dei-04c4ff94?mod=hp_lead_pos1">announced</a> that it would no longer send workplace data to the HRC, which pushes companies to hire more LGBT-identifying people. The political activists over at the HRC are, of course, beside themselves. How could these companies dare defy the Left’s agenda? Well, as has been true throughout the history of capitalism, money talks.

Ford Motor Company revealed this week that it lost more than a hundred thousand dollars for every electric vehicle that it sold during the first quarter.
Ford&#8217;s electric vehicle unit reported a $1.3 billion loss, amounting to a $132,000 loss per electric vehicle sold during the first three months of the year, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/24/business/ford-earnings-ev-losses/index.html">reported</a>.
The company saw a 20% decrease in sales volume and, because of low demand for electric vehicles across the industry, was forced to slash the prices of its electric vehicle offerings.
Ford said that it expects its electric vehicle division to lose $5 billion this year, an increase of $300 million from the $4.7 billion loss that it suffered last year.
&#8220;Americans don’t want EVs at levels Biden’s climate hysteria require,&#8221; businessman Andrew Puzder posted on X. &#8220;Ford’s EV Q1 losses soared to $1.3 billion — a ridiculous $132,000 per EV sold. All Ford’s profits came from combustion engine vehicle sales. Collectivist policies destroy prosperity.&#8221;
The company announced earlier this month that it was delaying the production of two new electric vehicles and that it will instead focus on making more hybrid vehicles as consumer demand for electric vehicles continues to plummet.
“Many companies rushed in too fast with E.V.s that were too expensive and there was not as much of a market for them as they thought,” Sam Abuelsamid, principal analyst for transportation and mobility at the research firm Guidehouse Insights, told the The New York Times. “That’s made it a lot tougher to sell those vehicles.”

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ford-motor-co" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Ford Motor Co.</a> announced on Thursday that it is delaying the production of two new electric vehicles and that it will instead focus on making more hybrid vehicles as consumer demand for electric vehicles continues to plummet.
The launch of at least two new three-row electric vehicles will be delayed from 2025 to 2027, the company said in a statement.
&#8220;The additional time will allow for the consumer market for three-row EVs to further develop and enable Ford to take advantage of emerging battery technology,&#8221; the company claimed.
&#8220;In parallel, Ford is expanding its hybrid electric vehicle offerings,&#8221; the company said. &#8220;By the end of the decade, the company expects to offer hybrid powertrains across its entire Ford Blue lineup in North America.&#8221;
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/04/business/ford-delays-electric-vehicles.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>:
