The Federal Reserve got it wrong again.
By refusing to cut rates yesterday, the Fed showed that it is still fighting yesterday’s inflation while ignoring today’s economy. The Federal Open Market Committee left its target range unchanged at 3.5% to 3.75%. It also didn’t change the rate it pays on nearly $3 trillion of bank reserves, a disincentive for bank lending. Moreover, the difference between short-term interest rates on Treasury securities and long-term ones is ridiculously narrow. The one-month Treasury bill rate is about 3.7%. Given that the ten-year Treasury bond is yielding around 4.25%, that Treasury bill rate should be little more than 2 1/2%.
The Fed mistakenly believes prosperity causes inflation. By those misguided lights, our central bank should be cutting rates.
The labor market is plainly softer: February payrolls fell by 92,000. Fourth-quarter 2025 GDP was just revised down to a weak 0.7% annual rate. Those are not numbers that justify monetary paralysis. They are numbers that argue for relief.
Yet Jerome Powell persists in presenting this stance as prudence. It is not prudence. It is institutional vanity masquerading as caution. Powell said that the current stance of policy is “appropriate,” and he again leaned on vague uncertainty tied to developments in the Middle East. Central banking is supposed to be about weighing actual monetary conditions, not using every geopolitical tremor as an excuse for inaction. Monetary policy cannot prevent wars, but it can certainly make an already slowing economy weaker by keeping the price credit too high for too long. 
Worse, Powell’s comments about remaining in office as “chair pro tem” if no successor is confirmed were the most revealing part of the day. By saying he would stay on beyond the end of his current term if necessary, Powell projected exactly the wrong message: that the office belongs to him until the political system catches up. It does not. The Federal Reserve chairmanship is not a hereditary title, not a lifetime appointment, and certainly not a perch from which one signals permanence during a period of policy failure. Reuters reported <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/feds-powell-says-hell-stay-fed-leader-until-successor-confirmed-2026-03-18/">yesterday</a> that Powell said he would remain as Fed leader until a successor is confirmed. That may be legally arguable. It is politically tone-deaf and economically reckless.
The real issue is not just style. It is substance. High rates are not costless. They punish homebuyers, freeze housing activity, discourage business expansion, and increase the financing burden across the economy. Powell himself acknowledged yesterday that housing remains weak and that job gains have remained low. January retail sales were down 0.2%, hires in the JOLTS report were stuck at 5.3 million, and quits remained subdued at 3.1 million. The Fed has an institutional bias against vigorous economic growth. But even by its perverted lights, those numbers don’t convey a booming economy screaming for restraint. That is a country telling the Fed, in plain English, that the price of borrowing money is too high.
This is the chronic disease of modern central banking: officials are always late. They were late to recognize inflation when easy money was flooding the system, and now they are late to recognize disinflation as growth fades. Instead of admitting that policy works with long lags, the Fed clings to a backward-looking obsession with proving its anti-inflation credentials. It is as though Powell is determined to be remembered as “tough,” even if that means being wrong.
America does not need theatrical sternness from the Eccles Building. It needs sound money and common sense. Inflation has come down. Growth has slowed sharply. Employment has weakened. Credit-sensitive sectors are under strain. The right move was not another pose of caution. It was a rate cut.
The Fed missed the moment. Again.
And Powell’s insinuation that he may simply remain in place until Washington resolves his succession only adds arrogance to error. The central bank needs humility, not self-importance; discipline, not drift; and above all, leadership that understands that keeping rates too high for too long is every bit as damaging as holding them too low for too long.

(Reuters) -Elon Musk on Wednesday became the first person to surpass $500 billion in net worth, powered by a rebound in Tesla&#8217;s share price this year and swelling valuations of his other tech ventures.
The milestone comes just under a year after Musk&#8217;s net worth crossed $400 billion and underscores his lead as the world&#8217;s richest person.
Musk&#8217;s fortune briefly hit $500 billion on Wednesday, before settling at $499.1 billion at 5 p.m. ET, according to Forbes&#8217; billionaires index.
His wealth is tied closely to his about 12% stake in Tesla, the world&#8217;s most valuable automaker. The electric-vehicle maker&#8217;s stock has climbed about 14% so far this year after a choppy start.
Musk last month disclosed his purchase of about $1 billion worth of Tesla shares, in what was seen as a vote of confidence as the company races to transition from an automaker to an AI and robotics powerhouse.

The carmaker&#8217;s board last month proposed a $1 trillion compensation plan for Musk, setting out lofty financial and operational targets for the CEO while also addressing his demands for a bigger stake in the company.
The package is the largest ever offered to a corporate executive and investors expect the pay plan to deepen Musk&#8217;s focus on Tesla at a time when he has juggled commitments across multiple ventures.
The stock has risen 35.7% since the package was disclosed on September 5.

His ventures, over the years, have given Musk an outsized sway over technology industries, from electric cars and clean energy to satellite communications and artificial intelligence.
Musk&#8217;s AI startup xAI and rocket company SpaceX have also scaled their valuations this year and are reportedly raising funds at $200 billion and $400 billion valuations, respectively.
The AI startup, valued at $75 billion in July, is expanding a supercomputer, dubbed &#8220;Colossus&#8221;, to train large-scale models as its Grok chatbot seeks to rival established players such as OpenAI&#8217;s ChatGPT and Google&#8217;s Gemini.
SpaceX has cemented its dominance in the commercial space sector, operating the world&#8217;s largest satellite network through Starlink while capturing the bulk of U.S. launch contracts.
The company also consistently launches the most rockets in the world, regularly serving the International Space Station and carrying satellites for rival networks.
Oracle founder Larry Ellison follows Musk as the second-richest person on Forbes&#8217; list, with a net worth of about $350.7 billion as of Wednesday.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/transgender">Trans-identifying</a> TikTok influencer <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/dylan-mulvaney">Dylan Mulvaney</a> was named to Forbes’ list of “30 Under 30 Social Media,” the publication announced this week.
Forbes stated in the <a href="https://www.forbes.com/30-under-30/2024/">article</a> that the list was compiled &#8220;with the help of nominations from the public – as well as expertise from Forbes tech journalists and judges from all corners of creatordom.” The outlet added that it includes “young founders, industry leaders and online stars transforming the creator economy and future of the internet.&#8221; Forbes described the “creator economy” as a &#8220;$250 billion industry estimated to roughly double over the next five years.&#8221;
Others on the list include comedians Alan Chikin Chow and Steven He, fashion influencer Alix Earle, and disabled content creator Molly Burke. 
Mulvaney, 26, became popular on TikTok for the creator’s “Days of Girlhood” series, which documented the process of Mulvaney&#8217;s so-called gender transition. The social media star made headlines after doing a promotional campaign with Bud Light, which led to massive brand boycotts costing parent company Anheuser-Busch millions in lost revenue.

Forbes’ description for Mulvaney mentioned the “Days of Girlhood” series, saying it attracted “more than 1 billion views.” 
The article also included a quote from Mulvaney which said, &#8220;Whether somebody&#8217;s trans or not, I just hope they can watch my videos and feel inspired to unlock a new part of themselves.&#8221;
Mulvaney shared the digital cover on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C0M-svlP5Pv/?img_index=1">Instagram</a>, writing in the caption, “Businesswoman special!!! This was my dream, I couldn&#8217;t be more grateful. And buckle up, we&#8217;re just getting started.”
“I now realize that when I work with a brand, they will forever be a part of my story, going forward,” Mulvaney told Forbes, referencing the Bud Light controversy. &#8220;And I want there to be a mutual respect &#8211; and not only for me, but also for my community.”
“I think I am becoming a bit of a businesswoman,” the influencer added. “As much as I love the creative side, I love getting smarter: I want to know everything, and how it all works. Of course being in front of the camera, but I love the idea of producing and I think, why not learn it all.”

Forbes on Monday posted about what it called &#8220;Unprompted Attacks On Gaza&#8221; — then deleted the post after backlash ensued against the magazine — following the unprovoked terrorist attacks from Hamas on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/israel" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Israel</a> over the weekend that killed hundreds of people.
In the since-deleted post on X, the American business magazine shared a headline that read, &#8220;Hamas Threatens To Execute Israeli Civilian Hostages For Unprompted Attacks On Gaza.&#8221;
The reaction was swift, with one follower after another calling out the magazine, and the post was soon deleted — but not before people had taken screenshots of the headline or <a href="https://twitchy.com/samj/2023/10/09/congrats-forbes-you-guys-came-up-with-the-worst-headline-of-the-day-about-the-hamas-attacks-on-israel-n2388330" target="_blank" rel="noopener">captured the reaction</a> others had to the shocking post.

Markowicz told The Daily Wire she saw &#8220;two wild-eyed young white women run up to our party and scream ‘black lives matter!'&#8221;
&#8220;They threw their drinking glasses at the wall where our books were displayed and ran off,&#8221; she said.
&#8220;Suddenly I heard screaming, had books thrown at me, and I was soaking wet,&#8221; Mandel told the outlet. &#8220;I realized young women with short, dyed blue hair were screaming at us ‘black lives matter, trans lives matter!’ I tried to talk to them, but they ran off.&#8221;

Aging rocker Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (better known as Sting) and the band Genesis — fronted by musician Phil Collins — topped Forbes&#8217; list of the top ten earners in the entertainment business for 2022.
Forbes <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/lisettevoytko/2023/02/13/the-worlds-top-10-highest-paid-entertainers-of-2022/?sh=14a7e1c629a3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">revealed the list</a> — which included several musicians and several television series creators along with a couple of film actors and directors — in an article that was published on Monday. Their 2022 hauls ranged from $88 million to $230 million.
Tenth on the list was Puerto Rican rapper Bad Bunny, 28, who earned $88 million from two tours, a number of lucrative endorsement deals, and the movie &#8220;Bullet Train.&#8221;
Ninth was fan-favorite Taylor Swift, 33, who raked in a cool $92 million in 2022 — most of which came from sales of her older music. Swift was the only woman to make the top ten entertainment earners in 2022, and has been in the top ten six times in the past.
Director James Cameron, 68, whose long-awaited &#8220;Avatar&#8221; sequel has topped the box office for weeks, came in eighth with $95 million in earnings — driven primarily by the success of &#8220;Avatar: The Way of Water.&#8221;
The Rolling Stones brought in over $98 million from a 15-city European tour – which, according to a <a href="https://nypost.com/2023/02/14/forbes-highest-paid-entertainers-2022-taylor-swift-bad-bunny-more/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from the New York Post, worked out to $8.5 million per night for bandmates Keith Richards and Mick Jagger, both of whom are 79 years old. They landed on the list at number seven.
In sixth place was 59-year-old actor Brad Pitt, who brought in $100 million in 2022 thanks to the majority sale of his Plan B production company along with several film projects, including “Bullet Train” and “Babylon.”
“The Simpsons” creators Matt Groening and James L. Brooks ranked fifth after securing a deal to move the series from FX to stream exclusively on Disney+ — a deal that netted them an estimated $105 million in 2022.
Fellow cartoon creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone (“South Park”) made the list at number four with $160 million stemming from a Paramount deal, an HBOMax deal, and their hit musical/comedy, “The Book of Mormon.”
Number three was writer, director, producer, and actor Tyler Perry — who brought in an estimated $175 million from a number of different projects.
Sting landed in the number two spot after inking a deal to sell his entire music catalog — both as a solo artist and with his band The Police — to Universal Music Group. His 2022 haul topped $210 million.
Genesis, fronted by Phil Collins, took the top spot with $230 million in 2022 earnings thanks to the sale of most of his catalog to Concord Music Group.

Finally, lawmakers are taking action against TikTok, the social media platform run by the communist Chinese.
No, it&#8217;s not because of all the scantily dressed underage girls dancing about or public school teachers flaunting their transgenderism. Federal lawmakers are finally convinced that the video-sharing app is up to no good.
Last week, in the massive $1.7 trillion omnibus bill, lawmakers included a call to ban TikTok from government devices like phones and computers. The move, signed into law by President Joe Biden, came after reports that TikTok and its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, improperly used the 
app to spy on reporters covering the company.
&#8220;Forbes first reported the existence of the surveillance scheme, which targeted three Forbes reporters, in October,&#8221; the magazine <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilybaker-white/2022/12/23/lawmakers-outrage-tiktok-spied-on-journalists/?sh=4903b3025d70">reported</a> last week. &#8220;At the time, TikTok did not deny the report, but tweeted that the app had &#8216;never been used to &#8220;target&#8221; any members of the U.S. government, activists, public figures or journalists.&#8217; TikTok and ByteDance now admit that this was false.&#8221;
In an internal report released to the public, ByteDance confirmed that four of its employees collected data of at least two TikTok accounts belonging to U.S. journalists.
“The individuals involved misused their authority to obtain access to TikTok user data,” TikTok CEO Shou Chew said in his email to employees, according to an excerpt of the email <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/22/tech/tiktok-bytedance-journalist-data/index.html">reviewed</a> by CNN. “This is unacceptable.”
“The misconduct of these individuals, who are no longer employed at ByteDance, was an egregious misuse of their authority to obtain access to user data,” TikTok spokesperson Brooke Oberwetter confirmed to CNN. “This misbehavior is unacceptable, and not in line with our efforts across TikTok to earn the trust of our users.”
When the app was going viral in 2019, TikTok went so far as to claim all data would be secure, vowing that U.S. user data would be kept in the United States and not sent to ByteDance headquarters in China. The revelation that the company was scouring the date of American journalists proves that&#8217;s false.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) has led the campaign to ban TikTok from government devices.
“The federal government has yet to take a single meaningful action to protect American users from the threat of TikTok. This isn’t about creative videos — this is about an app that is collecting data on tens of millions of American children and adults every day,&#8221; Rubio <a href="https://www.rubio.senate.gov/public/index.cfm/press-releases?ID=D1C2E147-3A23-4F49-AC27-268572AABDCD">said</a> in a press release before lawmakers moved against TikTok.
&#8220;We know it answers to the People’s Republic of China. There is no more time to waste on meaningless negotiations with a CCP-puppet company,&#8221; he said.
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI) chimed in. &#8220;TikTok is digital fentanyl that’s addicting Americans, collecting troves of their data, and censoring their news. It’s also an increasingly powerful media company that’s owned by ByteDance, which ultimately reports to the Chinese Communist Party – America’s foremost adversary.&#8221;
Gallagher said that allowing the app to continue to operate in the U.S. &#8220;would be like allowing the U.S.S.R. to buy up the New York Times, Washington Post, and major broadcast networks during the Cold War. No country with even a passing interest in its own security would allow this to happen, which is why it’s time to ban TikTok and any other CCP-controlled app before it’s too late.&#8221;
So finally, the federal government has taken action. But it&#8217;s high time that Americans do the same &#8212; kill the app off your phone so the Chinese can no longer collect your data.

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/communist-china" target="_blank" rel="noopener">China</a>-based parent company of <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/tiktok" target="_blank" rel="noopener">TikTok</a> said Thursday that an internal investigation revealed employees obtained private data of four U.S.-based tech journalists and other American users&#8217; information.
ByteDance, the Chinese tech giant that owns the video-sharing app, was accused earlier this year of tracking multiple reporters at Forbes under a covert surveillance campaign, which led to employees gaining access to information such as the IP addresses of some TikTok users connected to the reporters.
Forbes <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/emilybaker-white/2022/12/22/tiktok-tracks-forbes-journalists-bytedance/?sh=51bf709f7da5" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that ByteDance&#8217;s Internal Audit and Risk Control department was responsible for the alleged plan to monitor the locations of specific American citizens. The person who oversees that department is Beijing-based executive Song Ye, who reports to ByteDance co-founder and CEO Rubo Liang.
&#8220;I was deeply disappointed when I was notified of the situation … and I&#8217;m sure you feel the same,&#8221; Liang said in an internal email to employees shared with Forbes. &#8220;The public trust that we have spent huge efforts building is going to be significantly undermined by the misconduct of a few individuals … I believe this situation will serve as a lesson to us all.&#8221;
The New York Times <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/12/22/technology/byte-dance-tik-tok-internal-investigation.html?smtyp=cur&amp;smid=tw-nytimes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that two employees responsible for obtaining the data were based in China, and two others were based in the United States.
According to the NYT, the company has fired all four employees involved.
ByteDance officials said the targeted reporters included Emily Baker-White, Katharine Schwab, and Richard Nieva — all three of whom wrote for BuzzFeed and are now at Forbes — and Cristina Criddle of the Financial Times.
TikTok General Counsel Erich Andersen wrote in a second internal email shared with Forbes that internal audit groups investigating code of conduct violations are standard practices for companies.
&#8220;However, in this case, individuals misused their authority to obtain access to TikTok user data,&#8221; Andersen said.
ByteDance and TikTok did not deny the surveillance, saying the app &#8220;has never been used to &#8216;target&#8217; any members of the U.S. government, activists, public figures or journalists&#8221; and that &#8220;TikTok could not monitor U.S. users in the way the article suggested.&#8221;
Growing security concerns over the social media platform have caught lawmakers&#8217; attention recently after the Federal Communications Commission said the government agency could not regulate the social media app or control American data from flowing back to Beijing and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), which requires companies to share its data upon request under the country&#8217;s 2017 National Intelligence Law.
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) recently introduced bipartisan legislation prohibiting the video-sharing social media app from all consumer devices.
In a statement about the internal investigation, Rubio told the NYT that &#8220;no one should be surprised or fooled by ByteDance&#8217;s public apology.&#8221;
&#8220;The company is desperate to tamp down growing bipartisan concerns about how it enables the Chinese Communist Party to use — and potentially weaponize — the data of American citizens,” Rubio said. &#8220;Every day it becomes more clear that we need to ban TikTok.&#8221;
U.S. Senators unanimously passed the No TikTok on Government Devices Act, introduced by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), last week.
&#8220;TikTok is a Trojan Horse for the Chinese Communist Party. It&#8217;s a major security risk to the United States, and until it is forced to sever ties with China completely, it has no place on government devices,&#8221; Hawley said in a <a href="https://www.hawley.senate.gov/hawley-bill-ban-tiktok-government-devices-passes-senate-unanimously" target="_blank" rel="noopener">statement</a> on Thursday. &#8220;States across the U.S. are banning TikTok on government devices. It&#8217;s time for Joe Biden and the Democrats to help do the same.&#8221;
Several states in the union have also passed laws prohibiting state employees from using the app on government-owned devices.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/forbes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Forbes</a> ran a puff piece Friday about Caroline Ellison, the one-time love interest of disgraced former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried and the head of Alameda Capital, which allegedly made bets with money deposited by consumers at the <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/cryptocurrency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">cryptocurrency</a> exchange.
FTX filed for <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/30-year-old-billionaire-loses-entire-fortune-overnight-as-his-bahamas-based-cryptocurrency-empire-implodes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bankruptcy</a> last week after users&#8217; worries about the arrangement between the two companies triggered a liquidity crisis. Ellison, who was <a href="https://www.forbes.com/30-under-30/2022/finance?profile=alameda-research" target="_blank" rel="noopener">honored</a> on this year’s Forbes 30 Under 30 list, was featured in a Friday <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidjeans/2022/11/18/queen-caroline-the-risk-loving-29-year-old-embroiled-in-the-ftx-collapse/?sh=15161c95791f&amp;utm_campaign=socialflowForbesMainTwitter&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=ForbesMainTwitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> published by the outlet as a “math whiz” with an edgy online persona rather than a possible financial fraudster responsible for losing <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/former-crypto-billionaire-sam-bankman-fried-whose-entire-fortune-just-went-to-zero-is-calling-around-for-new-investors" target="_blank" rel="noopener">billions</a> in clients’ investments.
“While other kids were playing with Lego, Ellison was learning about Bayesian statistics before middle school,” the profile said. “A natural mathematician, high school was a laboratory for Ellison’s love of numbers and she competed multiple times in the Math Prize for Girls, the national contest that draws the country’s brightest young minds. But her interests went far beyond math, and as a senior, she received an honorable mention in a linguistics olympiad.”
Speculation about Ellison’s true quantitative abilities circulated last week as social media users shared a <a href="https://twitter.com/QntRetirement/status/1591467833074098181" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video</a> where she had claimed to use nothing more than “elementary school math” while running Alameda Research.
Ellison, alongside Bankman-Fried and their colleagues, expressed an affinity for “effective altruism,” which encourages adherents to grow wealthy and donate heavily to charitable causes, during her time at Stanford University. Although Bankman-Fried has since admitted that he embraced the philosophy as “mostly a front,” as revealed in a <a href="https://www.vox.com/future-perfect/23462333/sam-bankman-fried-ftx-cryptocurrency-effective-altruism-crypto-bahamas-philanthropy" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from Vox, the authors at Forbes wondered aloud whether Ellison “actually believed in the tenets of effective altruism, or if it served as an effective way to shield their alleged wrongdoing.”
Bankman-Fried also emerged as the second-largest donor to the 2020 campaign of President Joe Biden and among the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/here-are-the-democrats-and-republicans-who-received-campaign-cash-linked-to-bankrupt-crypto-empire-ftx" target="_blank" rel="noopener">largest contributors</a> to Democratic candidates in the 2022 midterm elections. Yet the Forbes article claimed that Ellison has found support among members of alt-right online communities since the implosion of the cryptocurrency empire, citing her alleged views on race and marriage.
Fallout from the bankruptcy of FTX has provoked calls in the United States for greater regulations on the cryptocurrency sector and will be the subject of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/bipartisan-committee-to-hear-from-sam-bankman-fried-and-crypto-allies-next-month" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bipartisan hearing</a> hosted by the House Financial Services Committee next month. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Gary Gensler, whose agency is investigating the situation, works as a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under Glenn Ellison, the father of Caroline Ellison and the economics department head at the prestigious university.
Bankman-Fried and nine other executives reportedly lived together in the Bahamas in a luxury penthouse, which might have been <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/ftx-executives-reportedly-bought-themselves-real-estate-in-the-bahamas-with-corporate-funds" target="_blank" rel="noopener">purchased using company dollars</a>. All of the individuals “are, or used to be, paired up in romantic relationships with each other,” a <a href="https://www.coindesk.com/business/2022/11/10/bankman-frieds-cabal-of-roommates-in-the-bahamas-ran-his-crypto-empire-and-dated-other-employees-have-lots-of-questions/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">report</a> from CoinDesk claimed on the basis of unnamed sources. Forbes discussed Ellison’s online musings expressing her desire to live in a romantic arrangement resembling an “imperial Chinese harem” where “everyone should have a ranking of their partners, people should know where they fall on the ranking, and there should be vicious power struggles for the higher ranks.”
Forbes, however, was not the only mainstream media outlet to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/shameless-media-just-cant-quit-love-affair-with-crypto-creep-sbf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">run a puff piece</a> that downplayed possible fraud at the companies. An <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2022/11/14/technology/ftx-sam-bankman-fried-crypto-bankruptcy.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article</a> from The New York Times minimized the allegations of wrongdoing and postulated that Bankman-Fried’s “ambitions exceeded his grasp.”

Steve Forbes, the chair of Forbes Media and editor-in-chief of Forbes Magazine, argued on Monday that monetary policymakers are neglecting currency stabilization as a tool to combat <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/inflation" target="_blank" rel="noopener">inflation</a>.
Price levels between August 2021 and August 2022 rose 8.3%, according to <a href="https://www.bls.gov/news.release/cpi.nr0.htm">data</a> from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, marking a slight moderation from an 8.5% year-over-year increase in July and a 9.1% year-over-year increase in June. The <a href="http://dailywire.com/topic/federal-reserve">Federal Reserve</a> responded on Wednesday by <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/heres-what-the-federal-reserves-recent-rate-hike-means-for-the-economy">increasing</a> the target federal funds rate by 0.75% — a move that mirrored identical aggressive rate hikes in June and July.
Raising interest rate targets has the effect of discouraging economic activity by increasing the cost of borrowing money. During the Forbes Global CEO Conference in Singapore, Forbes questioned the logic of sending the economy into a recession in order to reduce inflationary pressures, according to a <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2022/09/26/the-real-cure-for-inflation-has-gone-ignored-forbes-says.html">report</a> from CNBC.
“No central banker today — hardly any — talks about stable currencies. It’s about depressing the economy to fight inflation,” he remarked. “With unstable currencies you get less productive long-term investments, which is key to economic growth.”
Currency appreciation leads to more costly exports for overseas buyers, according to an <a href="https://www.imf.org/external/pubs/ft/fandd/basics/monpol.htm">analysis</a> from the International Monetary Fund. The dollar has appreciated rapidly against foreign currencies <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/global-turmoil-makes-euro-cheap-for-americans">such as the euro</a> amid the repeated interest rate hikes, decreasing demand for American products and lowering economic output.
“Today, unfortunately, not only is the Biden administration putting up obstacles to deal with supply-side problems, but also the Federal Reserve and other central banks think you have to depress the economy to bring inflation down,” Forbes added. “The real cure is to stabilize the currency. You don’t have to make people poor to conquer inflation.”
Forbes cited former President Ronald Reagan’s efforts to bolster American reserves of foreign currencies — a move that increases the supply of the dollar on foreign exchange markets, thereby decreasing exchange rates. Unpredictable exchange rates also increase currency risks for overseas investors, leading to less foreign direct investment into the United States.
Forbes, who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1996 and 2000, likewise suggested a return to the gold standard. “Gold holds its intrinsic value better than anything else on earth… gold is not perfect as a stable value, but it is better than anything we have found in over 4,000 years,” he explained.
To stimulate the economy during the lockdown-induced recession, the Federal Reserve had initially <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-reserve-releases-plan-to-more-urgently-address-high-inflation">pegged</a> a near-zero target interest rate and acquired government bonds from the market. The rollback of the stimulus from policymakers occurs as price levels rise at the fastest rate in four decades.
Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said during a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jerome-powell-vows-to-restore-price-stability-even-though-federal-reserve-must-first-bring-some-pain">hawkish speech</a> at the central bank’s symposium in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that officials are prepared to “bring some pain” to combat rising price levels and return inflation to the long-term target of 2%. “Price stability is the responsibility of the Federal Reserve and serves as the bedrock of our economy,” he asserted. “Without price stability, the economy does not work for anyone. In particular, without price stability, we will not achieve a sustained period of strong labor market conditions that benefit all.”
The Dow Jones Industrial Average, which tracks 30 of the most prominent companies on American exchanges, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/federal-reserve-announces-rate-hike-of-0-75">tumbled</a> more than 500 points after the Federal Reserve hiked interest rate targets last week.

An article by an ex-ABC News journalist &#8212; who has changed sex identities multiple times &#8212; attacking a detransitioned woman-turned activist against radical gender theory was taken down by Forbes one day after publication.
The article, by Dawn Ennis, a biological male who identifies as transgender, originally ran as an <a href="https://www.losangelesblade.com/2022/09/11/california-ex-trans-teen-is-national-right-wing-medias-darling/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">opinion piece</a> in the Los Angeles Blade on Sunday. When it was <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/dawnstaceyennis/2022/09/11/ex-trans-activist-chloe-cole-in-her-own-words-im-autistic/?sh=265053d4392f" target="_blank" rel="noopener">republished</a> by Forbes the same day, it drew widespread criticism for factual inaccuracies and its allegedly defamatory treatment of Chloe Cole, an 18-year-old detransitioned autistic woman. By Monday evening, clicking on the link led to an error page.
&#8220;We removed that article because it violated our editorial guideline of publishing work that was published elsewhere in advance,&#8221; a spokesperson for Forbes told The Daily Wire. &#8220;We only accept original content.&#8221;
Cole, a California native, has become a target for supporters of radical gender theory since April, when she began speaking out about her experience medically transitioning. Cole began identifying as transgender at 12 years old, was prescribed puberty blockers and testosterone at 13, and obtained a double mastectomy surgery to remove her breasts at 15. Two years later, Cole realized she had made a mistake, and has since become a leader in the <a href="https://www.reddit.com/r/detrans/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">growing movement</a> of young, outspoken detransitioners who claim they were pushed into irreversible medical interventions.
In the article, Ennis called Cole’s negative experience an “outlier,” but supports the claim with statistics on transition regret in adults, rather than the current cohort that Cole and others are most concerned about: adolescents with rapid-onset gender dysphoria (ROGD). A recent UCLA <a href="https://williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu/publications/trans-adults-united-states/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">survey</a> found that the number of trans-identified teens ages 13-17 doubled to approximately 300,000 in the last five years. For activists like Cole, who believe minors are unable to give meaningful consent to sex-change surgeries, data on adult regret is not revelatory.
Ennis calls puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries “lifesaving medical treatments” in the article, which refers to the “affirm-or-suicide” myth, a <a href="https://www.realityslaststand.com/p/pediatric-gender-medicine-and-the" target="_blank" rel="noopener">debunked claim</a> that says trans-identified minors are more likely to commit suicide if they are denied medical treatments. Studies claiming that &#8220;trans&#8221; youth are at elevated risk of suicide commonly compare their “trans” cohort to mentally healthy teenagers who don’t identify as trans. When researchers <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33165650/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">compared</a> &#8220;trans&#8221; youth to teens with similar mental health problems, but not including gender dysphoria, there was little difference in suicide rates.
Ennis, who is not a trained biologist, also claimed that the terms “‘biological male,’ ‘biological female’ and ‘biological sex’ are nonsense words” invented “specifically to oppress trans people.” Many biologists disagree. According to developmental biologist Emma Hilton in a <a href="https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-dangerous-denial-of-sex-11581638089" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wall Street Journal</a> article titled “The Dangerous Denial of Sex,” the concept of biological sex was not invented to oppress transgender people, but represents an objective scientific fact, and one that needs to be acknowledged in order to protect the sex-based rights of women, gays and lesbians, and children.
In the article, Ennis attempted to discredit Cole by accusing her of changing parts of her story when she met in July with Florida Surgeon General Dr. Joseph Ladapo, a fierce critic of radical gender theory, after testifying in favor of a state law barring the use of Medicaid funds to pay for medical interventions for gender dysphoria. Cole maintained that her testimony has remained consistent with her life story.
 “It’s still my life and it’s never changed. Not a single detail,” Cole told The Daily Wire. 
Ennis also attempted to forge a connection between Cole and Libs of TikTok, the social media account that has been a frequent target of left-wing publications. Ennis wrote that minors are not obtaining genital surgeries, yet appeared to contradict the claim in the very next sentence.
“But it’s a campaign based on lies; <a href="https://www.politifact.com/factchecks/2022/aug/12/tweets/no-boston-childrens-hospital-doesnt-provide-hyster/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The factchecking team at Politifact</a> determined [the] viral claim was false,” Ennis wrote. “While there have been exceptions for some 15, 16 and 17-year-olds, most surgeons won’t operate on anyone younger than 18.”

Ennis has also attempted to sow doubt in the validity of Cole’s medical transition. “Some note the fact that <a href="https://twitter.com/FreiKrystian/status/1568307559341391872?s=20&amp;t=KlTaT81p_sFj1kuwU-Te_Q" target="_blank" rel="noopener">surgery takes years of planning and preparation</a> and is not done on a whim or under pressure,” said Ennis. But according to the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s Standards of Care (WPATH), the world’s leading transgender healthcare association, their own <a href="https://www.wpath.org/media/cms/Documents/SOC%20v7/SOC%20V7_English.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">guidelines</a> recommend “one year of testosterone treatment” and a mental health professional’s letter of support, in order for a 15 year old — like Cole at the time — to obtain a double mastectomy surgery.  
Ennis lacks a medical license but asserts that endocrinologists do not generally prescribe puberty blockers and testosterone at the same time.
“Still others have doubted her account because of medical inconsistencies in her treatment and subsequent health conditions,” said Ennis. “Endocrinologists generally do not prescribe puberty blockers and testosterone simultaneously; typically, someone would get puberty blockers prior to experiencing puberty, and testosterone would be prescribed thereafter.” 
Endocrinologist Dr. Mike Laidlaw supports the testimony of Cole, who said her doctor did not follow the World Professional Association for Transgender Health’s Standards of Care.
“My experience in reviewing transitions and detransitions is that the clinicians and other healthcare providers involved in medical care often do not follow even WPATH’s ill-conceived guidelines,” Laidlaw said. “Some of these doctors follow their own recipes and provide puberty blockers at the same time as testosterone. These gender quacks don’t understand basic endocrine physiology and prescribe whatever toxic concoctions they dream up. Unfortunately young people like Chloe pay a heavy price for this experimentation on our youth.”
Ennis capped the article by accusing Cole and other detransitioners of causing “deliberate harm to trans and nonbinary youth,” but did not provide any supporting evidence to substantiate that claim.
Ennis, who previously went by Don, made headlines in 2013 after transitioning, detransitioning, and then re-transitioning while working as a night-time editor at ABC News. The &#8220;paunchy, balding father of three” as the <a href="http://nypost.com/2013/08/06/im-a-guy-again-abc-newsman-who-switched-genders-wants-to-switch-back/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">New York Post</a> described him, publicly announced on Facebook in May of 2013, at age 49, that he was leaving his wife of 17 years to become a full-time woman, and would assume the name “Dawn.” Ennis reportedly later posted a memo on the newsroom bulletin board which read: “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing me up in a wig and bra and making fake ID’s with the name ‘Dawn’ on it. Seriously.”
 Ennis claimed the gender flip-flopping was due to “transient global amnesia,” and at the time, in 2013, believed it was the year 1999. ABC News later fired Ennis for “performance related issues.”
Reached by The Daily Wire, Ennis declined to answer specific questions, but claimed to be working on a follow-up article for Forbes.

Major media outlets that covered the story obfuscated these key facts, instead highlighting that Facebook assisted law enforcement in uncovering the alleged crimes by providing the duo&#8217;s messages.
Forty-one-year-old Jessica Burgess and her 17-year-old daughter, Celeste Burgess, face felony charges: Jessica Burgess pleaded not guilty and is awaiting trial, while her daughter also pleaded not guilty to three charges that included a felony, <a href="https://journalstar.com/news/state-and-regional/nebraska/norfolk-mother-and-daughter-accused-of-illegal-abortion-burning-and-burying-body/article_ff99fd49-a710-5ec3-8d51-5aced3001c71.html">according to the Lincoln Journal Star</a>.
A 22-year-old man (Tanner Barnhill, <a href="https://www.thedailybeast.com/facebook-fuels-abortion-charges-against-celeste-burgess-and-jessica-burgess-in-nebraska">according to The Daily Beast</a>), who was accused of helping the mother-daughter duo bury the baby, has also pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor. He will be sentenced later this month, the Lincoln Journal Star reported.
Media that covered the story were quick to emphasize the disclosure of the Facebook messages to authorities, to bury the accusation that the baby was burned, and to refer to the baby&#8217;s death using the lingo pushed by abortion groups, as a &#8220;self-managed abortion”:

<h3>Hiding The Aborted Baby</h3>
A search warrant affidavit reviewed by the Lincoln Journal Star reveals that a Norfolk police detective launched an investigation into the death of the baby pursuing a tip that the daughter had buried a miscarried baby with her mother — possibly violating the state&#8217;s pre-Roe ban on abortions after 20 weeks.
The publication reported that after obtaining her medical records and establishing that she was more than six months (23 weeks) pregnant, the detective met with Celeste Burgess and her mother.
The two claimed that Celeste Burgess had suddenly birthed her stillborn baby in the shower in the middle of the night, the Lincoln Journal Star reported that court records show, woken her mother, stowed the baby in a bag in the back of their van, and later buried the baby with the help of the 22-year-old man.
That man revealed to police on April 29 that Celeste and Jessica Burgess had tried to burn the baby&#8217;s body before burying it on his parents’ property — and authorities who examined the baby&#8217;s body found &#8220;thermal wounds,&#8221; the Lincoln Journal Star reported.
The baby was indeed stillborn, <a href="https://www.siouxlandproud.com/news/local-news/2-adults-and-1-teen-concealed-death-of-baby-norfolk-police-says/">an April 30 autopsy found</a>.
Authorities — unaware that the baby had been illegally aborted — reportedly charged the women in early June with removing, concealing, or abandoning a dead human body, as well as concealing the death of another person and false reporting.

But the detective then served a search warrant on Facebook and found messages indicating that the mother had bought or obtained abortion pills for her daughter and told her how to take them, the publication reported.
“When I conducted the interview with C. Burgess I wanted to try and figure out when the miscarriage occurred,” the detective said, according to a complaint obtained by The Daily Beast, adding, “C. Burgess scrolled through her messages on her Facebook Messenger account,&#8221; trying to show detectives that she had messaged her mom on the night of the incident.

&#8220;Are we starting it today?&#8221; Celeste Burgess allegedly <a href="https://nypost.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2022/08/COURTDOC-comp.jpg">asked</a> her mother in April 20 Facebook messages, according to records posted by the New York Post, to which her mom replied, &#8220;We can if u want,&#8221; adding, &#8220;the one will stop the hormones.&#8221;
The two discuss the process of taking the abortion pills before Celeste Burgess reminds her mother, &#8220;Remember we burn the evidence.&#8221;
&#8220;Yep,&#8221; her mother responds.
&#8220;Once everything is out,&#8221; the daughter continued.
&#8220;Yep,&#8221; the mom answers. &#8220;Thought u would b happy 2 hear the stuff came in.&#8221;
&#8220;Yes,&#8221; responds the daughter. As her mother moves on to discuss the thunder outside, the daughter continues, &#8220;I will finally be able to wear jeans.&#8221;
The detective wrote in his affidavit that the daughter described &#8220;how she can’t wait to get the ‘thing’ out of her body and reaffirms with J. Burgess that they will burn the evidence afterward,&#8221; the Lincoln Journal Star reported.

The messages led Madison County Attorney Joseph Smith to add two more felonies, performing or attempting an abortion on a baby older than 20 weeks, as well as performing an abortion as a non-licensed doctor, to the charges against the mother.
In Nebraska, babies may not be aborted past 20 weeks.
