Lululemon founder Chip Wilson is taking backlash for his recent comments about the brand&#8217;s adoption of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies — which he said led to the use of &#8220;unhealthy,&#8221; &#8220;sickly,&#8221; and &#8220;not inspirational&#8221; models to promote the brand.
<a href="https://nypost.com/2024/01/03/business/lululemon-founder-chip-wilson-slams-diversity/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wilson</a>, who left the company in 2015, but remains its largest individual shareholder, complained that with the move to include models he deemed &#8220;unhealthy,&#8221; the company was moving toward promoting diversity over health and fitness.
&#8220;They&#8217;re trying to become like the Gap, everything to everybody. And I think the definition of a brand is that you&#8217;re not everything to everybody,&#8221; he explained during an <a href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/jemimamcevoy/2024/01/02/lululemons-founder-made-a-fortune-but-lost-out-on-billions-inside-his-struggle-to-move-on/?sh=d51285233982" target="_blank" rel="noopener">interview</a> with Forbes. &#8220;You&#8217;ve got to be clear that you don&#8217;t want certain customers coming in.&#8221;
Joanna Schwartz, a marketing professor at Georgia College &amp; State University, told <a href="https://www.newsweek.com/lululemon-founder-blasts-company-diversity-chip-wilson-1857526" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Newsweek</a> that the brand&#8217;s success was in part derived from its refusal to be &#8220;everything to everybody,&#8221; explaining that instead, they worked hard to &#8220;super-serve their core&#8221; — wealthy, fit, and usually younger women.
&#8220;That has made Lululemon an aspirational brand that represents very high-quality, expensive goods that are rarely significantly discounted. It&#8217;s also a lifestyle brand that is really captured by some of the word representations they create around their brand ideas, focus on intentionality, oneness and yoga,&#8221; she added.
Schwartz went on to suggest that remaining in that mindset would be counterproductive, however — and suggested apparently without evidence that Wilson had also been opposed to including models of diverse races and ethnicities.

&#8220;He clearly sees Lululemon as a brand where a large percentage of the population isn&#8217;t welcome. In light of that kind of opposition, it&#8217;s really impressive that the brand has pushed against that to include a greater racial and ethnic diversity, and by addressing the brand&#8217;s formerly long-standing sizeism, which includes a focus almost exclusively on women&#8217;s sizes 00-10,&#8221; she said.
Wilson has triggered the woke mob on at least one <a href="https://nypost.com/2013/11/09/some-women-just-cant-wear-lululemon-pants-founder/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">previous occasion</a> — when he said that not all women were built for the company&#8217;s yoga pants — which resulted in him stepping down as chairman of the board in 2013.

TV personality <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Billy Porter</a> recently elaborated on his thoughts about the highly publicized 2020 issue of Vogue featuring musician <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/harry-styles">Harry Styles</a> modeling a Gucci gown. 
Porter, 53, said he wasn’t pleased that Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour chose to showcase Styles, a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lgbtq">straight</a> white man, as the magazine&#8217;s first male solo cover model for the December 2020 issue, even if he was cross-dressing at the time.
“It doesn’t feel good to me. You’re using my community — or your people are using my community — to elevate you. You haven’t had to sacrifice anything,” Porter said of Styles during a recent <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/music/interviews/billy-porter-interview-harry-styles-vogue/">interview</a> with The Telegraph.
The “Pose” star recalled an interview he did with Wintour several months before the cover debuted. &#8220;That b**** said to me at the end, ‘How can we do better?’ And I was so taken off guard that I didn’t say what I should have said,” Porter said.
&#8220;Use your power as Vogue to uplift the voices of the leaders of this de-gendering of fashion movement,&#8221; the actor continued. &#8220;Six months later, Harry Styles is the first man on the cover.”

Porter went on to say he’s not angry with Styles, but is upset with Vogue&#8217;s “gatekeepers.”
“It’s not Harry Styles’ fault that he happens to be white and cute and straight and fit into the infrastructure that way … I call out the gatekeepers,” Porter said.
The “Cinderella” alum complained about the same Vogue cover before. In October 2021, he made his feelings known during an <a href="https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/pose-star-billy-porter-did-i-ever-think-id-be-this-successful-no-because-im-gay-k59wszd5p">interview</a> with The Sunday Times. &#8220;I feel like the fashion industry has accepted me because they have to. I created the conversation [about nonbinary fashion] and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time,&#8221; Porter said. 
&#8220;I was the first one doing it and now everybody is doing it,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;I&#8217;m not dragging Harry Styles, but… He doesn&#8217;t care, he&#8217;s just doing it because it&#8217;s the thing to do. This is politics for me. This is my life.&#8221;
After receiving criticism, Porter expanded on his comments during an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
&#8220;It is about the systems of oppression and erasure of people of color who contribute to the culture,&#8221; he said at the time. &#8220;I&#8217;m sorry, Harry. I didn&#8217;t mean no harm. I&#8217;m a gay man. We like Harry. He&#8217;s cute.&#8221;

Supermodel Christy Turlington had only praise for women who she said have chosen to &#8220;age naturally&#8221; and she made it clear she won&#8217;t be using plastic surgery — nor does she think other women should attempt to slow down mother nature.
The 54-year-old model talked about the women she sees as beauty icons and said they are the ones who have stayed away from altering their faces to hide the fact that they have lived life, calling it beautiful, <a href="https://www.marieclaire.com/beauty/christy-turlington-beauty-routine/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Marie Claire</a> reported.
&#8220;Women who have stayed away from augmentation of themselves — those are the women I really admire,&#8221; Turlington said. &#8220;I love seeing a real face. A face of someone who&#8217;s lived life.&#8221;

Podcast host Megyn Kelly ripped into Target for their women’s “tuck-friendly” swimwear that makes space for men’s genitals.
The swimsuits are part of Target’s Pride collection and contain extra material to conceal men’s genitals.
“Target decided it would be a great idea to partner with a company — as far as I could tell one of its main lines seems to be sort of a pro-Satan line of clothing,” Kelly noted, referring to Abprallen. “They decided to willingly partner with this clothing manufacturer to make Pride month gear that includes bathing suits that are quote ‘tuck-friendly’ that have extra material around the crotch, which no woman needs because we don&#8217;t have penises down south in Rio.”

“So Target turned to them to make their new line of clothing, including baby onesies with rainbow patterns, and at one point, selling their Pride related merch that read things like: We belong everywhere across the trans flag, too queer for here, cure transphobia not trans people, and so on,” Kelly pointed out.

Designer fashion house Kate Spade has been slammed on social media for promoting its 2023 women&#8217;s spring line with biological male trans-identifying activist Dylan Mulvaney.
In a TikTok video that has since gone viral, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/trans-activist-dylan-mulvaney-dressed-as-6-year-old-book-character-eloise-sparks-big-reaction-on-twitter" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Mulvaney</a> dons a blue and white floral dress while at the Kate Spade shop in New York. Mulvaney can be seen running around looking for the &#8220;perfect spring outfit.&#8221;
Mulvaney then grabbed a small white purse and showed it off before pointing out a hot-pink dress on a mannequin and grabbing a pair of heels. Mulvaney does a quick change and steps out of the dressing room in the hot pink dress, heels, and carrying the purse.
After the video circulated, conservatives called out the company for &#8220;insulting women&#8221; by using a biological male to sell women&#8217;s clothing.

In December, Demna issued an apology in a since-deleted statement on <a href="https://nypost.com/2022/12/02/balenciaga-designer-demna-addresses-bdsm-ad-scandal-apologizes/">Instagram</a>, saying, &#8220;I want to personally apologize for the wrong artistic choice of concept for the gifting campaign with the kids and I take my responsibility.&#8221;

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/victorias-secret">Victoria’s Secret</a> models are hitting the runway again after its popular fashion show took a four-year break.
Chief financial officer Timothy Johnson revealed the news during the company&#8217;s 2022 earnings call on Friday, per <a href="https://people.com/style/victoria-secret-fashion-show-returning-new-version/">People</a>.
&#8220;We&#8217;re going to continue to lean into the marketing spend to invest in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/business">business</a>, both at top-of-funnel and also to support the new version of our fashion show, which is to come later this year,&#8221; Johnson said.
The company further said in a statement that it was &#8220;always innovating and ideating in all spheres of the business to continue to put our customer at the center of all we do.&#8221;
&#8220;As we&#8217;ve previously shared, our new brand projection and mission will continue to be our guiding principle,&#8221; the statement continued. &#8220;This will lead us into new spaces like reclaiming one of our best marketing and entertainment properties to date and turning it on its head to reflect who we are today. We&#8217;re excited to share more later this year.&#8221;
The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show came under scrutiny and was eventually canceled in 2019 following criticism that it didn’t include a wide range of sizes and body types. 
“Fashion is a business of change. We must evolve and change to grow,” CEO Leslie Wexner said in 2019 while announcing the end of the fashion show. “With that in mind, we have decided to rethink the traditional Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.”
Since then, the company has been promoting models of all different sizes to sell lingerie. But despite these efforts – or perhaps <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/woke-culture">because of them</a> — Victoria’s Secret has suffered financially.

The brand replaced some of its models with soccer star and liberal activist Megan Rapinoe and even included a transgender-identifying man in the mix to appease critics. But none of that worked to restore Victoria’s Secret to its former financial status.
Sales for the lingerie company <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/victorias-secret-brand-ceo-out-as-company-struggles-following-pursuit-of-wokeness">dropped by 4.5%</a> to $1.5 billion in 2022, representing a decline of 8% compared to the previous year.
“Instead of lowering their prices or improving their quality, they killed the Angel and the entire fantasy along with it,” Evie Magazine editor-in-chief Brittany Martinez previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/they-made-a-critical-mistake-how-victorias-secret-went-woke-and-got-broke">told</a> The Daily Wire while discussing the brand’s steep decline. “They made a critical mistake many companies have made: they obsessed over their competitors and the media instead of obsessing over their customers.”
The annual fashion show was first held in August 1995. It ran 23 more times in following years, taking a break in 2004.
