A Clemson University student who was awarded $5.3 million after being falsely accused of sexual assault must continue to fight for his award money.
Andrew Pampu was awarded the money in April 2022 after he sued his accuser, Erin Wingo, her father, David, and her ex-boyfriend, Colin Gahagan, for defamation. But last month, South Carolina’s Court of Appeals <a href="https://law.justia.com/cases/south-carolina/court-of-appeals/2025/6112.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">overturned</a> the ruling and set a dangerous precedent —that quasi-judicial campus tribunals carry the same weight as jury trials.
A jury unanimously agreed that Pampu had been defamed and ordered Erin to pay $700,000 in actual damages and $450,000 in punitive damages, her father to pay $230,000 in damages, and Gahagan to pay $700,000 in actual damages and $220,000 in punitive damages for defamation. Erin and Gahagan were also ordered to pay damages for civil conspiracy, with Erin ordered to pay $2 million in actual damages and Gahagan ordered to pay $1 million, Greenville News <a href="https://www.greenvilleonline.com/story/news/local/2022/04/12/former-clemson-student-awarded-millions-defamation-lawsuit-appeal-filed-defendants/7225351001/">reported</a> in 2022.
The three appealed the ruling, even though the lawsuit kicked off after Gahagan admitted to Pampu that he had helped Wingo falsely accuse him.
“You’re innocent,” Gahagan wrote in a January 2017 text message, months after Pampu had been suspended from Clemson based on Wingo’s claims. “I lied in that hearing. Erin wanted to have sex that night. Get your brothers away from me and never touch your [sic] life again and I’ll come through with the truth that she lied. I deleted the texts from that night prove [sic] she was f****** crazy. You’re innocent. Just pull your f****** boys off me and never touch me again. It’s sad that you were like a brother to me and this happened[.] You’re innocent. Send this to your lawyer. Just don’t call me into the hearing and leave me alone. You’re welcome. That’s all I ask. You’re innocent bud.”
But the Court of Appeals overturned the unanimous jury ruling, in part by claiming the trial that led to the ruling was unnecessary because the case had already been litigated by Clemson University administrators.
This, despite the fact that campus tribunals provide little to no due process for accused students, including discovery or even the right to properly question their accuser and call witnesses. The Court claimed that “fundamental fairness requires the court to give preclusive effect to the administrative hearing board’s February 29, 2016, findings.”
One of Pampu’s attorneys, Kimberly Lau, blasted the court for its ruling.
“This ruling dangerously distorts the law and undermines the role of juries,” said Lau, who has been representing falsely accused students for more than a decade. “Andrew Pampu was defamed, denied due process, and suspended from Clemson based on false testimony. A jury heard all the facts and unanimously ruled in his favor. That justice has now been upended by a misapplied legal doctrine that values a flawed university proceeding over a full and fair trial.”
Pampu and his attorneys say they will continue to fight for justice following the disappointing ruling.
“After ten exhausting years, including seven spent defending myself and three more in the appellate process, I remain committed to standing up for the truth,” Pampu said. “When I received the favorable unanimous jury verdict in March 2022, I was overwhelmed with relief.”
“Since then, the case has continued through the courts, and while the recent appellate ruling is discouraging, I believe it raises serious questions about access to justice and the weight given to jury findings,” he added. “I will continue to stand up for what is right, not only for myself, but for anyone who finds themselves fighting to clear their name and move forward with their life.”
Pampu’s struggles began nearly a decade ago, in early September 2015, when Wingo pursued him for sexual activity leading up to a fraternity party where Gahagan, her on-again, off-again boyfriend, was ignoring her, as The Daily Wire previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/he-was-accused-of-sexual-assault-by-a-woman-whose-boyfriend-later-admitted-lying-he-just-won-a-5-3m-settlement" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. Wingo propositioned Pampu and the two ended up having sex outside near a shed. Following the encounter, Wingo complained about Gahagan and ended up crying over him for the rest of the night, sending him numerous text messages.
The next morning, she texted Pampu to ask him not to tell Gahagan about their night together. When she admitted to Gahagan what she had done, she claimed not to remember most of the night, so Gahagan told her that if she couldn’t remember, it was rape. Even though Wingo clearly remembered the night in text messages to multiple people, she told investigators she didn’t, even deleting her text to Pampu. When Pampu showed the text to campus investigators, they ignored it.
Wingo didn’t report the alleged sexual assault to Clemson until two weeks after she and Pampu had engaged in sexual activity. Even though all sides were precluded from retaliation, Clemson allowed Gahagan to call Pampu a “rapist” around campus. Pampu also reported other incidents of harassment and retaliation by Gahagan and Wingo, all of which were ignored.
Given Clemson’s apparent bias even before the hearing, it was no surprise that Pampu was suspended. Months later, Gahagan admitted that it was all a lie. Gahagan also shared text messages between himself and a woman who knew Wingo’s father. Gahagan told the woman that Wingo had lied about being raped.
In addition to suing his accusers, Pampu also sued Clemson University, with whom he reached an undisclosed settlement in 2019.

One of the most popular authors on YouTube was accused of sexually assaulting another social media influencer, only for the accuser to delete her accusation and post multiple apology videos.
Daniel Greene, who has written three <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/21193761.Daniel_B_Greene" target="_blank" rel="noopener">popular fantasy books</a> and boasts more than 500,000 YouTube subscribers, was accused of sexual assault by fellow influencer and author Naomi King on February 11 of this year. King posted a now-deleted video of herself crying and claiming that two years earlier, “Greene threatened to wipe me off social media,” adding that if she disappears, “you&#8217;ll know who did it,&#8221; <a href="https://www.sportskeeda.com/pop-culture/what-naomi-king-daniel-greene-drama-booktuber-allegations-explained-scandal-leaves-fantasy-book-community-shellshock">according</a> to pop culture news website Sportskeeda.
King then claimed that a video she made in June 2023, where she said a “friend that turned out not to be a friend” had sexually harassed her, was actually about an encounter she had with Greene. She claimed that after she posted that video, Greene’s legal team sent her a cease and desist letter demanding she take the video down or face a lawsuit. King in her February 11 video claimed she ignored the letter but never heard anything else from Greene’s attorneys.
King then said in her video that in May 2023, she planned to meet Greene in Las Vegas and waited for him by “getting baked by the pool.” She claimed she planned to hang out with Greene as a friend, but that when he arrived, he allegedly pushed her into sexual activity even though, she claimed, she was “half asleep and on drugs.” She claimed she kept resisting and eventually Greene masturbated on her. The next morning, she said, they talked about the encounter and agreed that the previous night shouldn’t have happened, but that they would remain friends. King claimed that Greene did the same exact thing as soon as they were alone again.
After the Vegas trip, King said she reached out to Greene’s fiancée and told her about what happened, saying that she “needed her to know that I didn’t want it.” In this video as well, King kept crying and claimed other people had accused Greene of similar actions.
Two days after King posted her video accusation, Greene responded in <a href="https://youtu.be/6BhPv-NDcPI" target="_blank" rel="noopener">his own video</a>, saying: “This is an important message in response to various false allegations made against me by Naomi King of alleged sexual assault in a campaign launched on YouTube and more. Let me be clear. I had consensual sex with Naomi King. Yes, it was an affair.&#8221;
Greene also said in his video that he had “clear and convincing” evidence that the encounters were consensual, though he didn’t present it at that time. He also said he planned on suing King for &#8220;libel.&#8221;
Even with Greene’s denial, commenters flocked to support King and condemn Greene, as is the norm when women make accusations of sexual assault — even before any proof is provided.
On February 17, King posted another now-deleted video, this time walking back her allegations and saying she agreed to meet up with Greene because he planned to pay for the trip and give her money, which she wanted for a tattoo, according to Sportskeeda. She also said that Vegas was not the first trip she took with Greene, even though she had said previously that it was. In this new video, she also said she lied about being assaulted, saying she undressed in front of him and agreed to be his “sugar baby.”
She went on to profusely apologize to those who have actually been sexually assaulted.
&#8220;I hurt so many people, it was not my intent,” she said. “I genuinely thought I was doing something good. I am not okay with my behavior. It&#8217;s really gross. I agree with your comments and I am going to take a step back and reflect. I don&#8217;t like this version of me. So, I&#8217;m going to put an end to this and I&#8217;m going to acknowledge my faults. I stand by trauma, but I don&#8217;t stand by my behavior. I&#8217;m sorry.”
Though she didn’t apologize to Greene for her accusations, the tide turned against her, with commenters saying she was “in full meltdown mode” and suggesting she seek professional help.
After King posted her apology video, Greene <a href="https://youtu.be/JYjpvQ2Jar8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted</a> a video focusing on how King said, &#8220;I wish I could take it all back, it was not worth losing what we had. I wish I&#8217;d never gone to Vegas.&#8221; He used King’s video as vindication for himself.
On February 23, King posted <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQNlsE-2dus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">yet another now-deleted video apology</a>, in which she said her last apology “was not me admitting to falsely accusing anybody” but also saying she was leaving the internet for a while. Comments on the video were incredibly critical of her, with people writing that they could no longer believe a word King said, especially since she was continuing to post after previously saying she was going to check into a mental health facility and leave the internet. In that video, which is still on YouTube, King also contradicts herself, saying her encounter with Greene was not consensual but that she was not accusing him of sexual assault.
Greene <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGphg1IRxxs" target="_blank" rel="noopener">followed up</a> on King’s numerous apology videos, sharing a post that alleges her “malicious intent.” In the post shared by Greene, King insists that she stood by her claims that Greene pressured her into sexual activity she didn’t want, and that she took down her apology video because “people were taking it as an admission to falsely accusing.”
But in private messages from a third party Greene claims were shared to him, King was told that people called Greene a rapist because of what King said, and that people supported her for her accusation. The discussion is apparently about King’s apology, because the third party says “that’s why everyone was talking about survivors in your comments.”
King allegedly responds to these messages with an upside down, laughing turtle image and the word “oops.”
The third party then asks: “What do you mean oops[?]” Naomi allegedly responds by saying, “Well, we’ll see what happens.”
This, Greene says in his video, is proof that King is not stopping her allegations against him.
“I have a right to defend myself in the court of public opinion and law,” Greene said in his video, before claiming that King is “making light” of the experiences of sexual assault survivors.
Since Greene’s video, he has not posted anything more about King, and King’s channel, which had more than 130,000 subscribers, appears to have been deleted.
King did not respond to a Daily Wire inquiry, but Greene’s spokesperson Mike Paul told The Daily Wire: “Unfortunately, due to pending and serious litigation, as well as criminal investigations with law enforcement currently in both the US and Canada, we have no further comment at this time.”
Paul did not respond to further inquiry, asking for information about the litigation and criminal investigations.

In the past nine years, there have been three presidential elections, 6 congressional elections, and 35 different iPhone models.
Yet, in that same amount of time, one former Purdue University student has been stuck in limbo, unable to end a nightmare that began all those years ago.
<h3>The Allegations</h3>
During the fall semester of 2015, a male student whom The Daily Wire will refer to as John Doe began dating a female student referred to in court documents as Jane Doe. The relationship was okay for a while, but on December 13, 2015, Jane threatened to commit suicide in front of John by standing on the ledge of a parking garage after throwing objects around her dorm room and crying while saying she hated life. After this incident, according to John’s eventual lawsuit against Purdue reviewed by The Daily Wire, all sexual activity between the two ceased.
In early January 2016, John reported Jane’s suicide attempt to Purdue, and shortly after, she began to pull away from the relationship and the two went their separate ways. Four months later, and only after Purdue’s highly marketed Sexual Assault Awareness Month events, Jane accused John of sexually assaulting her during their relationship.
John received notice of the accusations on April 11, 2016. Jane claimed she awoke one night to John groping her. She told him it was not okay. John told her at some point before that incident that he digitally penetrated her while she was sleeping. He said he felt bad about the first incident but proceeded to the second incident anyway. Jane became upset at John over these incidents and left his room. John had also gone through her underwear in her laundry, and had once chased her down the hall, joking about tasing her. After they had broken up, he also continued to go to her room unannounced. She claimed John had a temper he couldn’t control as well.
John vehemently denies Jane’s allegations, stating in his lawsuit that he responded to the allegations by informing Purdue that he never groped her in her sleep in November 2015, but that in mid-December of that year, after her suicide attempt, she slept on a futon in his dorm room while he slept on the floor. At some point in the night, John accidentally touched her knee and she began freaking out before leaving the room. John also said he never had any sexual contact with her while she was asleep, and therefore never told her that he did. He added that he never went through her laundry but sometimes did her laundry for her and never threatened to tase Jane. He also noted that the two never formally broke up, they simply began seeing each other less, and that he merely went to her room to return an item. At that time, she told him not to go to her room, so he didn’t.
John provided evidence that Jane continued to shower him with affection even after these alleged incidents, demonstrating behavior not in line with someone who had been sexually assaulted. She continued to text with John over the holidays, wished him a Happy Christmas Eve, and sent him a package of homemade cookies for his family. She also invited him to her room at the beginning of the spring 2016 semester.

In addition, John provided Purdue with evidence that it was Jane who had the temper and tried to project that onto John. She often contemplated running away and not returning to the school as well. John also provided a list of more than 30 names to substantiate his reputation, since Jane attacked his character and credibility in her allegations.
Purdue’s policy did not allow John to review the investigator’s prepared report, nor was he provided a hearing to determine the credibility of Jane’s claims. John maintains in his lawsuit that his “ability to defend himself was severely and unfairly prejudiced.”
Instead of a hearing, a three-person panel reviewed John’s case. Jane never appeared before the panel and instead provided a statement written by Purdue’s Title IX coordinator. In that statement, Jane only requested that John be removed from Purdue’s Navy ROTC program, of which they were both members. Jane’s new boyfriend at the time was also a member. Jane stated that she didn’t fear John on campus and merely wanted him out of the ROTC.
Without any evidence corroborating Jane’s claims, John was suspended from Purdue and had to leave the Navy ROTC program. He appealed the decision, but was denied without adequate explanation, so he filed a lawsuit against the university as many students have done in the past decade.
<h3>The Lawsuit</h3>
John dreamed of becoming a Navy SEAL officer, but says he can’t get a federal job with this on his record. His Title IX case is the longest ongoing case of its kind, with the closest similar case lasting seven years and ending in a disappointing motion to dismiss for the wrongly accused student.
“Purdue&#8217;s wrongful suspension of me closed all federal &amp; military employment opportunities because I was employed with the Navy through their ROTC program at the time of the suspension, which forced me to ‘resign’ with the Navy after my school suspension was finalized,” John told The Daily Wire in an email.
“Expungement of my school disciplinary file would give me an opportunity to fix my [Department of Defense] record, which currently makes me look bad due to the circumstances and thus limits my employment opportunities. For reference, I was a 4.0 GPA varsity athlete when I graduated high school, and double majoring with a minor while employed with the Navy ROTC at Purdue. My longtime dream was to become a Navy SEAL officer. The derailment of my life by Purdue was severe, to say the least.”
The case has persisted due the slow nature of the justice system, numerous filings and responses from both parties, and appeals to higher courts. The case even landed on the desk of Judge Amy Coney Barrett before she was nominated for the Supreme Court. Barrett, who was with the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals in 2019, upheld John’s claims that Purdue violated his due process and Title IX rights. Title IX prohibits discrimination based on sex, and accused students have said they are discriminated against as males when they are falsely accused and a school takes no steps to protect them.
When the case was sent back to a lower court, a judge dismissed John’s due process claim. John is trying to get the court to reinstate that claim and has had the judge who dismissed it replaced. The next stage of this case is a trial on the Title IX claim alone, which could result in what John ultimately wants: This whole thing to be expunged from his record.
After nine years of litigation, John’s family has spent more than $350,000 on legal bills, draining their savings and 401ks. He is currently working to set up a fundraiser to continue fighting Purdue’s persecution.

<h3>Purdue’s Response</h3>
In a statement to The Daily Wire, Purdue University chief spokesperson Erin Murphy said the school rejected John’s assertions of unfairness toward him.
“Most of [John’s] claims were dismissed long ago,” Murphy said, referring to the multiple claims students include in lawsuits hoping at least one will be accepted.
“His single remaining claim has been ready for trial for years. [John] insists on going to trial, but his lawyers have caused delays. Some of his lawyers quit his case in June 2023 after the last settlement conference,” Murphy continued. “[John] has publicly criticized those former lawyers. His remaining lawyer has filed repeated demands for a different judge, which were rejected by multiple courts, including the United States Supreme Court. His remaining lawyer has also required trial postponements for personal reasons that are shown in the court record.”
Those “delays” refer to John and his attorney attempting to get a new judge assigned to the case due to allegations of unfairness and a pro-Purdue bias. There is a new judge overseeing the case, as the previous judge was promoted by the Biden administration.
John’s attorneys did not quit on him, and the “public criticism” Murphy refers to is a testimonial on his attorney’s website saying that the attorney left his previous law firm “after partners at the firm tried to strong-arm” John’s case from him.
Finally, the “personal reasons” Murphy alludes to at the end of her statement refers to the attorney’s cancer diagnosis. John’s attorney has been battling cancer while fighting for his client.

Nine Years Later, One Student’s Title IX Nightmare Still Isn’t Over

Multiple media outlets on Wednesday ran a story about allegations against President Donald Trump’s defense secretary nominee, Pete Hegseth, even though they were denied by the alleged victim herself.
NBC, The Washington Post, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and others, all ran a story about Hegseth’s former sister-in-law claiming he abused Hegseth’s ex-wife. Headlines from the outlets and social media posts all run with the narrative without explaining up front that Hegseth’s ex-wife – the alleged victim – said these allegations weren’t true.
NBC was the first <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/senators-received-affidavit-containing-new-allegations-pete-hegseth-de-rcna188342" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to report</a> the claims and included the ex-wife’s denial in the subheadline, but it isn’t until the eleventh paragraph that this denial is mentioned and explained in full context.
The allegations come from Danielle Dietrich, who was married to Hegseth’s brother. Hegseth’s lawyer, Tim Parlatore, told NBC that Hegseth’s ex-wife, Samantha, “has never alleged that there was any abuse, she signed court documents acknowledging that there was no abuse and recently reaffirmed the same during her FBI interview.”
“Belated claims by Danielle Dietrich, an anti-Trump far left Democrat who is divorced from Mr. Hegseth’s brother and never got along with the Hegseth family, do nothing to change that,” he added.
Samantha herself told the outlet they had inaccurate information and copied her attorney on the email response. When NBC asked what wasn&#8217;t accurate, she said: “There was no physical abuse in my marriage. This is the only further statement I will make to you, I have let you know that I am not speaking and will not speak on my marriage to Pete. Please respect this decision.”
This information was not front-and-center for NBC or other outlets&#8217; reporting but buried paragraphs into the stories.
&#8220;After an acrimonious divorce, Ms. Dietrich has had an axe to grind against the entire Hegseth family,&#8221; Parlatore said. &#8220;Ms. Dietrich admits that she saw nothing but is now falsely accusing Sam of lying to both the Court and to the FBI because of private, undocumented statements that she allegedly made 10 years ago.&#8221;
Dietrich only came forward after Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) reached out to her and asked for “a statement attesting to your personal knowledge about Mr. Hegseth’s fitness to occupy this important position.” Reed also asked Dietrich specifically to discuss any “instances of abuse, or threats of abuse, perpetrated against any other person” and “mistreatment of a spouse, former spouse, or other members of his family.”

So, Reed went looking for dirt from a Democrat against a Republican and received what he wanted.
News outlets used the same tactic in reporting this story as they did when they began covering the Russiagate hoax in 2017. They didn’t run the story, knowing it wasn’t credible, until they learned that Trump had been briefed on ridiculous claims. After that, they treated the story as fact and gave themselves Pulitzer Prizes for their coverage, even though it was bogus.
This is also the latest attempt to smear Hegseth after previous attempts failed. NBC also tried and failed previously to torch Hegseth’s nomination by running a hit piece using anonymous sources claiming Hegseth drank during work. Media outlets also used flimsy allegations to target Hegseth earlier, claiming he sexually assaulted a woman when <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/megyn-kelly-methodically-breaks-down-bulls-allegation-against-pete-hegseth" target="_blank" rel="noopener">it was clear</a> the woman cheated on her husband with Hegseth and regretted their encounter, trying to paint herself as a victim instead of owning up to her adultery.

A Bucks County, Pennsylvania, woman has pleaded guilty to lying about nearly being raped and kidnapped at a grocery store parking lot in April 2024.
Anjela Borisova Urumova, 20, pleaded guilty to seven counts, including creating a false alarm, making false reports, and tampering with or fabricating evidence, ABC 6 <a href="https://6abc.com/post/anjela-borisova-urumova-pleads-guilty-lying-attempted-rape-kidnapping-outside-bucks-county-grocery-store/15806726/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. As is typical in cases where women lie about these types of crimes, Urumova is not receiving a harsh punishment, even though her lies led to an innocent man being imprisoned for a month.
A judge deferred Urumova’s sentencing so that she can undergo a pre-sentence investigation, which involves talking to Urumova and her family and looking at her background to see if there were any extenuating circumstances the judge can use to reduce the sentence. This will likely result in her getting little to no jail time.
The man Urumova lied about, Daniel Pierson, will likely serve more jail time being falsely accused than Urumova will serve as an actual criminal. Pierson was arrested and charged with multiple felonies after Urumova falsely claimed he tried to rape and kidnap her at the parking lot of a Redner grocery store. Urumova claimed that a man came up behind her and attacked her, tried to pull down her pants, and punched her in the face before she was able to get away.
Shortly after Pierson was arrested, the Bucks County District Attorney&#8217;s Office and the Middletown Township Police Department received a tip that led them to investigate the incident further, the DA’s office previously <a href="https://bucks.crimewatchpa.com/da/29567/post/woman-charged-lying-about-attempted-rape-and-kidnapping-middletown" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.

This time, the police actually did a basic investigation by obtaining surveillance video from the retailers near the alleged attack. They also conducted a forensic review of Urumova’s phone. The surveillance footage and her cellphone data found multiple inconsistencies in her claims. Investigators confronted Urumova with this information, and she admitted she lied. She told investigators that she targeted Pierson because she had seen him and his truck in the past.
After it was discovered that Urumova lied, she was arrested and charged with one count of creating a false alarm, one count of tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, two counts of false reporting, and three counts of unsworn falsification to authorities. Her bail <a href="https://www.buckscounty.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=1046" target="_blank" rel="noopener">was set at $30,000</a>.
The charges against Pierson were withdrawn after Urumova was arrested. Now, around eight months after her arrest, Urumova has admitted to her actions and pled guilty to all counts.
In a statement to The Daily Wire, Bucks Count District Attorney&#8217;s Office hinted that her sentencing may be harsh.
&#8220;We take this case very seriously,&#8221; a spokesperson said. &#8220;We believe the actions of this defendant were unconscionable, not only as it relates to her falsely identifying and implicating a man who was innocent of this crime, but also as to the damage actions like hers do to legitimate sexual assault prosecutions. At sentencing, the facts demonstrating the lengths she went to to deceive the investigators and manipulate evidence will become apparent.”

New York Times investigative reporter David Enrich reportedly told Mark Judge – a childhood friend of Kavanaugh’s whom Enrich implicated in wrongdoing – that he had “learned some lessons” from reporting the Kavanaugh allegations.
&#8220;I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about my role in the Kavanaugh coverage, and I would be happy to talk to you about it at some point. Christine Blasey Ford, who jumpstarted the smear against Kavanaugh by claiming, without evidence, that he sexually assaulted her when they were teenagers, also claimed Judge was at the party where the alleged assault happened. Judge – and every other person Ford claimed could back her claims – said they either don’t remember or never witnessed anything that would suggest Ford was telling the truth.

Judge told Fox News that Enrich and reporter Kate Kelly attempted to prove the outrageous claims by digging up dirt from his high school years.
Judge also told the outlet that the false allegations against him by reporters had damaged his mental health and that he even contemplated suicide. He said he told Enrich about this, saying the reporting had caused a &#8220;terrible amount of damage and distress to my family&#8221; and &#8220;blew apart decades-long friendships.” Judge said that Enrich seemed to offer sympathy, telling Judge: “I can’t imagine what it was like for you to go through that.”
&#8220;For years, my friends at Georgetown and I have been saying, ‘if only there was somebody with a conscience at the New York Times or Washington Post, if only one of them would come forward and admit what they did here, and I think we’ve just gotten it. A prosecutor in Denver, Colorado, who was fired after she faked inappropriate messages to frame a coworker for sexual harassment, has been disbarred.
Yujin Choi, a prosecutor in the Denver District Attorney’s Office, falsely accused a criminal investigator in the office, Dan Hines, of sexual harassment, The Denver Post <a href="https://www.denverpost.com/2025/01/03/denver-district-atorney-disbarred-false-sexual-harassment-yujin-choi/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. A ruling on January 3 by the Office of Presiding Disciplinary Judge, which oversees professional discipline for attorneys in Colorado, determined Choi should be disbarred for her actions.
“Unremitting honesty must at all times be the backbone of the legal profession,” <a href="https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/2419-OPINION-IMPOSING-SANCTIONS-UNDER-C.R.C.P.-242.31-2.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the ruling</a> said. “When a lawyer repeatedly employs deceit and dishonesty to harm another person, that lawyer corrodes the integrity of the profession and threatens to compromise public confidence in the legal system.”
Choi joined the Denver DA’s office in May 2019 and was fired in November 2022 after an internal investigation found she had lied about her accusations against Hines. She made her first false allegation against Hines in 2021, and even though her accusation hadn’t been proven, he was transferred and told not to contact her. Over the next two years, Hines faced professional and reputational harm due to Choi’s continued false allegations against him. He has filed a lawsuit against Denver District Attorney Beth McCann over his treatment.
“I just felt like it was like a bad dream,” Hines told the Post. “You attempt to hold yourself to a certain standard, and when someone comes along and makes those kinds of allegations against you, it destroys you… I wouldn’t wish this upon anybody. After the first one, when I had no way to disprove it, I was living in hell… I felt there was no way out, that everything I had lived for and stood for was destroyed. I felt like it was an embarrassment.”
Choi’s first false allegations against Hines claimed he made an inappropriate sexual comment to her. He vehemently denied the allegation, and an investigation found no evidence to support Choi’s claim.
“I was told I couldn’t talk about it, but word got out about that allegation, and you can imagine the perception it creates — ‘He must have done something wrong because they moved him,’” Hines told the Post.
He also said that the investigation was incomplete and that leadership at the DA’s office seemed to suggest Choi should be believed – a regular sentiment in the workplace – and that she was courageous for reporting the allegations. A spokesperson for the DA’s office told the Post that the “investigations were handled appropriately.”
In 2022, Choi began her second round of allegations against Hines, this time claiming he sent her inappropriate text messages. She provided purported screenshots of the messages, but when internal investigators searched Hines’ phone, they found he had not sent any messages to Choi. Choi’s records, however, showed Hines had sent her messages.

Investigators went to Verizon to get the correct records and found that Choi had sent herself the messages after changing the name in her phone to make it appear as though the messages came from Hines. The investigation also found that Choi had altered her phone records to include Hines’ phone number before she provided those records to the probe.
When investigators asked to search her phone and laptop, Choi said she had accidentally dropped her phone in the bath and spilled water on her laptop computer, which destroyed the devices just days before they were supposed to be examined. The disciplinary panel found her explanation “not plausible.”
Hines also told the Post that he hopes his lawsuit will change the way internal investigations are conducted. He is seeking a public apology for the handling of Choi’s first allegation and wants to see her charged for her actions, though prosecutors have already declined to bring charges.
Few, if any, prosecutors are ever disbarred for their actions, no matter how grievous. One famous example is Mike Nifong, who pursued a case against innocent Duke Lacrosse players even after it became clear their accuser was lying.

Two high school girls in Louisiana were charged with lying to police after they attempted to frame a male teacher they claimed was sending inappropriate messages to a student.
The two girls, who have not been named because they are minors, were charged with one count each of false swearing for the purpose of violating public health or safety (a felony), cyberstalking, and online impersonation, according to <a href="https://www.lpso.net/2025/01/06/two-high-school-girls-charged-for-trying-to-frame-teacher-for-inappropriate-messages/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">a press release</a> from Lafourche Parish, Louisiana, Sheriff Craig Webre.
“Our juvenile detectives are diligent and take claims of inappropriate behavior very seriously,” Webre said in the press release. “They are, however, equally serious about false claims. Someone’s life can be instantly ruined by a false allegation, and I am proud that our investigators were able to get to the bottom of this. Technology has made it very easy for people to try to manipulate the truth, but technology also makes it easy for investigators to ultimately find the truth.”
On December 18, the sheriff said, someone reported to the police that a male teacher at Central Lafourche High School had been sending inappropriate messages to a 16-year-old girl who was a student. Upon investigation, detectives found that the 16-year-old and her 15-year-old friend had conspired to frame the teacher.
At first, the two girls said they had received inappropriate messages from the teacher through an online instant messaging platform. Over the next two weeks, detectives investigated the claims, interviewing everyone involved and searching their phones and accounts on the platform.
Detectives soon learned that the two teen girls had created fake accounts impersonating the teacher and used those accounts to send bogus messages. They then sent screenshots of those messages to their friends to frame the teacher.

Detectives were able to prove that the male teacher had not sent any of the messages or photos the girls claimed he sent, and one of the girls eventually confessed to the crime. The sheriff’s office declared the teacher to be the “crime victim” and stated that he “has been cleared of all allegations,” something rare when it comes to false accusations.
Both girls were charged on January 6 with falsely reporting a crime to police, cyberstalking, and impersonating the teacher online. They were released into the custody of their parents but were placed on electronic monitoring, the sheriff’s office said.
“We are shocked and appalled to learn of the actions of two of our students,” Lafourche Parish Schools Superintendent Jarod Martin said in the press release. “The allegations against one of our teachers were false and malicious, and we appreciate the efficiency of investigators in uncovering the source of these messages. Such attacks on a teacher’s credibility and reputation are concerning and can inhibit their ability to effectively educate our children. We are committed to investigating all allegations of misconduct in order to provide a safe environment conducive to learning and working for all of our students and staff.”

A woman in Ireland falsely claimed she was sexually assaulted by a group of immigrants and has received only community service for her lies.
Tanya Wall, from the town of Dungarvan, told police in February 2023 that she was walking home alone at night when multiple men dragged her down an alley and sexually assaulted her, the Waterford News &amp; Star <a href="https://www.waterford-news.ie/news/waterford-woman-fueled-racial-tension-with-false-sexual-assault-claim_arid-43049.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. She claimed the men were startled and fled after another woman walked by, but Wall couldn’t describe this woman to police.
After Wall made her claims, she and the police went to the scene of the alleged crime but found nothing that could be used as evidence. Police then went to Wall’s home to collect her clothing for evidence and were able to obtain messages from her phone as well.
After two weeks of investigation, including CCTV footage that showed “clear inconsistencies” in Wall’s claims, according to the News &amp; Star, it became clear she was lying. On March 8, 2023, police arrested Wall at her home and interviewed her three times, during which time she claimed she didn’t have a good memory of the alleged attack.
Wall also told police that she told her ex-partner and mother that she had been attacked. Her sister then posted about it on Facebook — aiming her ire at immigrants in Ireland. The post angered many Irish nationals, who, following the mantra “believe women,” assumed the allegations were true and accused police of covering up the incident to protect immigrants.
Authorities in Europe have a history of downplaying violence from immigrants or outright ignoring it, including the ongoing scandal involving Pakistani “<a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn4xnv02nr0o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">rape gangs</a>” and how British authorities have handled it.
After Wall was arrested for lying about the sexual assault, her defense attorney, Sarah-Jane Comerford, claimed that Wall had “severe diabetes” and made the allegations due to high blood sugar and drinking too much on the night she alleged the attack happened. Comerford further said that Wall knew she told a lie that “completely snowballed” and for which she was not “brave enough” to stop, the News &amp; Star reported.
Wall pleaded guilty to making a false report to police and wrote a letter of apology to local police, claiming she “never meant to cause so much stress, time and work.”
Judge Eugene O’Kelly criticized the apology, however, saying Wall didn’t directly apologize to the immigrant community and that her false accusation “fueled racial division” and “planted hatred into the community,&#8221; causing &#8220;alarm and upset.” O’Kelly also faulted Wall for failing to retract her false claim even when given an opportunity to do so. Despite all this, she was sentenced to just 200 hours of community service.

One of the astonishing things about the news industry is that many stories with an outsized national impact turn out to have been completely falsified upon further review. One of its incentive structures is often “firstist with the mostist”; in other words, get to the story fast and report it incredibly quickly. But then, the reporting ends up being false. In retrospect, this does significant damage. This is true in regard to reporting about COVID or Black Lives Matter.
One of the signal examples of this is now being exposed for all the world to see.
18 years ago, in 2006, the Duke lacrosse rape case incited a wide variety of movements that would come into full flower over the course of the subsequent 10 years, particularly during the Obama era. The Duke lacrosse case was an inciting incident for Black Lives Matter and for the #MeToo movement.
In this case, a stripper accused a series of rich white lacrosse players at Duke University of having sexually assaulted her. It became one of the biggest cases in American criminal justice history, specifically because of its ripple effects.
Crystal Mangum, the stripper at the center of that case, has admitted she lied back in 2006. Until now, she has never publicly admitted she fabricated the rape allegation.
Three men, David Evans, Collin Finnerty, and Reade Seligmann, were arrested and put on trial before the case was dismissed. Mangum’s original allegation was that she had been performing at a team party off campus in March of 2006, had been sexually assaulted, and raped by a series of white Duke lacrosse players.
She was, indeed, at this party, but, apparently, she engaged in none of her &#8220;career activity,&#8221; shall we say, because she was high on drugs or intoxicated with alcohol. She ended up leaving early, and then these accusations were filed.

There were many holes in her story. First, there is no DNA on her. Second, she could not identify any of the Duke lacrosse players, except for one, who ended up not having even been there.
Yet, the problems with her allegations did not stop everyone — including the elite media and those on university campuses — from jumping to conclusions.
Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqt9OX-oAtU" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in 2006, “I am not going to allow Durham’s view in the mind of the world to be a bunch of lacrosse players from Duke raping a black girl in Durham.”
Nifong obviously had other political motivations, possibly to run for a higher office at some point. In a March 2006 interview with CBS News, he <a href="https://www.ncbar.gov/orders/06dhc35.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stated</a>, “The circumstances of the rape indicated a deep racial motivation for some of the things that were done. It makes a crime that is by its nature one of the most offensive and invasive even more so.” According to Nifong, this wasn&#8217;t just a rape. It was, in fact, a racist rape.
The former Duke University president, Richard Brodhead, took immediate action against the team following only the allegations. He accepted the resignation of the men&#8217;s lacrosse coach, canceled the remainder of their season, and suspended the accused three players from school after they were indicted for rape, according to <a href="https://nypost.com/2024/12/12/us-news/former-stripper-murder-convict-crystal-mangum-confesses-to-lying-about-being-raped-by-duke-lacrosse-players-in-2006/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The New York Post</a>. This was “despite having asked the public not to prejudge the criminal case.”
David Evans, one of the players, stridently <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niLROfcOfBc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">denied the allegations</a>, saying, “I am absolutely innocent of all the charges that have been brought against me today, that Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty are innocent of all the charges that were brought against them. These allegations are lies.” Eventually, the case was dismissed.

Yet that did not stop The New York Times from running around 100 pieces about the Duke lacrosse allegations. A tremendous number of Duke faculty actually paid for an ad that was put in the Duke Chronicle devoted to this particular case. Numerous departments and professors at the university signed onto this paid advertisement. What did <a href="https://today.duke.edu/showcase/mmedia/pdf/socialdisasterad.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the statement</a> say?
<blockquote>We are listening to our students. We’re also listening to the Durham community, to Duke staff, and to each other. Regardless of the results of the police investigation, what is apparent everyday now is the anger and fear of many students who know themselves to be objects of racism and sexism; who see illuminated in this moment’s extraordinary spotlight what they live with everyday. They know that it isn’t just Duke, it isn’t everybody, and it isn’t just individuals making this disaster. But it is a disaster nonetheless. These students are shouting and whispering about what happened to this young woman and to themselves.</blockquote>
The ad then provided anonymous student statements about the issue. The seedbed for the Black Lives Matter movement here is obvious. And it turns out all of this was based on lies. It was all lies — beginning to end.
Eventually, the North Carolina attorney general, Roy Cooper, announced that the charges had, in fact, been dropped. (Cooper would go on to become the governor of North Carolina.) He <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHtDbZ5i-w8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a>:
<blockquote>Our attorneys and SBI agents have interviewed numerous people who were at the party, DNA and other experts, the Durham County district attorney, Durham police officers, defense attorneys, and the accusing witness on several occasions. We have reviewed statements given over the year, photographs, records, and other evidence. The result of our review and investigation shows clearly that there is insufficient evidence to proceed on any of the charges. Today, we are filing notices of dismissal for all charges against Reade Seligmann, Collin Finnerty, and David Evans. The result is that these cases are over, and no more criminal proceedings will occur.</blockquote>
Nifong ended up being disbarred for making false statements and hiding evidence from the defense. The president of Duke University later came out and offered <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NkgddRymFA" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an apology</a>.
But here&#8217;s the issue: What was the fallout from this case? Was the fallout a lesson learned about people making false allegations? Of course not. Was the fallout about the rush to judgment by the media deeply desperate for a race case that they could magnify? Of course not; there have been dozens since.
The actual fallout in terms of policy was that in 2011, the Obama administration changed Title IX regulations so that you basically could not defend yourself against sexual harassment or sexual assault allegation on campus.
CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/07/politics/betsy-devos-education-department-title-ix/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reports</a> that the administration,
<blockquote>&#8230;outlined guidelines for schools on how to handle sexual assault allegations in a memo referred to as a ‘dear colleague’ letter. The letter reminded schools of their legal obligation to address sexual violence amid concerns that schools were not taking the issue seriously enough, and called on schools to step up investigations of reports. It also provided guidelines for investigations and hearings.</blockquote>
And it gave the accused no due process. It made it so that a person did not actually have a right to face down someone who was accusing them. That was the actual legal implication drawn from the false allegations of the Duke lacrosse case.
This repeated itself later with similar allegations that were made about the University of Virginia frat members in 2014 accused by Rolling Stone of engaging in a gang rape, which turned out to be completely false as well. But that didn&#8217;t stop the momentum of the #MeToo movement.
False allegations are, unfortunately, the lifeblood of movements that require gas when there is no gas in the tank.
Yesterday, Mangum, the accuser in the Duke lacrosse case — who is serving time for murder right now — finally admitted (nearly 20 years later) that her accusations were all made up. She said in <a href="https://www.letstalkwithkat.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an interview</a>: 
<blockquote>I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn&#8217;t. And that was wrong. And I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me and made up a story that wasn&#8217;t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God. And that was wrong. And I hope that they can forgive me.</blockquote>
It was false, and everyone knew it was false at the time. Yet it led to another string of these sorts of cases ranging from: the University of Virginia false rape allegations; the false allegations regarding Michael Brown&#8217;s death in Ferguson, Missouri, which led to riots in 2014; the case of George Floyd, which is in fact a false case; and the Daniel Penny case.
It stretches forward because the media need these opportunities. They spin up these opportunities. They rely on these opportunities in order to “have the discussion.” They&#8217;re constantly looking for a news hook to have discussions on the issues that they find most interesting regardless of whether the underlying data is there or not.
The media are perfectly willing to jump into certain conversations. However, there are other conversations that the media are absolutely not willing to broach.
Was there a widespread investigation into false rape allegations, which was the actual story with regard to the Duke lacrosse case? Absolutely not. Was there a full-scale media blitz on the question of rape hoaxes, which is what happened in Duke lacrosse? Absolutely not. The way the mainstream media work, their way of deciding whether something is a national story or not, is not based on the truth or falsity of the statements or the good or bad action of the people in question.
They have a preset narrative, and then they look for a hook for that narrative. That is how spinning up a movement out of nothing becomes possible. And it is how polarizing the American body politic occurs.
For four decades, the national media have pursued a preset narrative agenda. Then, they look for a news hook for that agenda that allows them to spin it up into a national story.
That is why Americans are sick and tired of the national legacy media.

The woman who falsely accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape in 2006 has finally admitted that she lied.
Crystal Mangum, now 46, made the admission during <a href="https://www.letstalkwithkat.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an interview</a> with Katerena DePasquale at the North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women, where Mangum is serving time for killing her boyfriend in 2011.
“I testified falsely against them by saying that they raped me when they didn&#8217;t, and that was wrong, and I betrayed the trust of a lot of other people who believed in me,” Mangum said. “I made up a story that wasn&#8217;t true because I wanted validation from people and not from God.”
Mangum added that she hoped the falsely accused students &#8211; David Evans, Collin Finnerty, and Reade Seligmann – could forgive her.

Mangum cannot be prosecuted for perjury, Duke student newspaper The Chronicle <a href="https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2024/12/duke-mens-lacrosse-scandal-2006-crystal-mangum-admits-fabrication-rape-18-years-later-apologizes-kat-depasquale-evans-finnerty-seligmann-brodhead-pressler-nifong" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>, because the statute of limitations on such a charge is only two years in North Carolina.
Mangum is already in jail for the 2011 murder of her then-boyfriend Reginald Daye. Mangum claimed she was afraid for her life and charged with second-degree murder. She was found guilty in 2013 and sentenced to 14-17 years in prison, with a projected release date of February 27, 2026.

In 2006, Mangum was hired as a stripper for a party thrown by members of the Duke men’s lacrosse team. After the party, Mangum got into an altercation with another woman hired as a stripper that night, and police were called. Mangum was going to be involuntarily committed to a drug and mental health center and, fearing she would lose her child, falsely claimed she had been raped by Duke students.
At the same time, then-Durham County, North Carolina, District Attorney Mike Nifong, who was up for re-election, decided to use Mangum’s allegations to win his re-election despite apparent issues with her claims from the beginning. Nifong even conspired with the director of the DNA lab to withhold DNA evidence that cleared the Duke players of rape and continued to pursue the case, falsely telling the media he had the evidence.
Nifong also pressured Mangum into picking Duke players from a lineup. She picked three randomly – Evans, Finnerty, and Seligmann – and they were charged. Seligmann was able to prove he was not even at the party at the time the rape was alleged to have occurred, providing ATM records and surveillance, as well as cell phone evidence and an affidavit from the taxi driver who drove him that night. His campus card was also swiped at his dorm during the time he was allegedly assaulting Mangum.
Mangum’s story also repeatedly changed throughout the proceedings. On December 22, 2006, Nifong finally dropped the charges after Mangum changed her story yet again. Six days later, the North Carolina bar filed ethics charges against Nifong over how he handled the case, and he was disbarred. He also spent one day in jail for his actions.
In early 2007, North Carolina Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper and the state Attorney General’s office declared the three students innocent – a rare move for anyone accused of rape.
Even after her allegations were proven false, Mangum maintained for years that she was a victim, even writing and promoting a book telling her alleged side of the story.
