A Washington, D.C., health care lobbyist is facing dozens of child pornography charges after allegedly videotaping up the skirts of women and a 16-year-old at a popular Northern Virginia mall.
Shawn Gremminger, 44, was arrested Aug. 27 at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and is being held without bond, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
<a href="https://www.politico.com/influence">POLITICO</a> reported that the veteran lobbyist served as president and CEO of the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions until Sept. 4.  He is facing 34 total charges, including 30 counts of possession of child pornography, one count of production of child pornography, and one count of unlawful creation of an image of a minor (all felonies), along with two misdemeanor counts of nonconsensual filming. 
The investigation into Gremminger, who lives in Fall Church, Virginia, started on Aug. 16 after distressed patrons called police to report a man using his phone to record up the skirt of an 18-year-old woman shopping for clothes. Mall surveillance footage reportedly caught Gremminger explicitly recording another 18-year-old woman at a different store before being confronted, according to charging documents cited by POLITICO.
In a separate incident the day before, Gremminger allegedly targeted a 16-year-old girl inside Victoria’s Secret while visiting the mall with people POLITICO reported appeared to be his ex-wife and daughter.
<a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/ex-healthcare-ceo-hit-with-30-child-porn-charges-after-alleged-secret-recordings-in-tysons-virginia-shawn-gremminger-fairfax-county-unlawful-recording">According to 7News</a>, one of the victims and a family member confronted the man during one of the incidents, but he fled before police arrived. Detectives used automated license plate reader technology to track down the wealthy DC executive.  
Following his arrest at the airport, police seized and searched Gremminger’s electronic devices. 
“During a search of Gremminger’s electronic devices, detectives discovered evidence indicating there may be additional victims,” local police said in a statement. “Detectives are asking anyone with information about these incidents or who believes they may have been a victim to contact our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 3.”
Gremminger is scheduled to appear next in Fairfax County General District Court on Oct. 21 for an adjudicatory hearing on the two nonconsensual filming charges, <a href="https://www.ffxnow.com/2026/09/15/just-in-health-care-coalition-leader-charged-with-illegally-filming-teens-in-tysons-stores/">Fairfax County local news</a> reported. A hearing on the felony charges – including unlawful filming of a minor and production of child porn charges – is set for Nov. 20. A separate hearing on the child pornography possession charges is scheduled on Dec. 2, local media reported.  
The National Alliance of Healthcare Purchasers Coalition <a href="https://www.nationalalliancehealth.org/news/national-alliance-of-healthcare-purchaser-coalitions-shares-leadership-update/">confirmed Tuesday</a> the company moved quickly to terminate Gremminger. 
“The Board of Governors took immediate action to fire the former president and CEO,” the National Alliance said, <a href="https://www.nationalalliancehealth.org/news/national-alliance-of-healthcare-purchaser-coalitions-shares-leadership-update/">adding</a> that the charges are “unrelated to the organization’s members, funders, finances, programs or operations.”
On Sept. 4, Chief of Staff Jenny Goins was named interim president and CEO.
The organization said it will continue working with its members and partners while advancing its mission to improve “value, quality and accountability” across the health care system.

A nonprofit is providing 9/11 lesson plans to schools across the United States that don&#8217;t mention Osama bin Laden, al-Qaeda, or Islam.
Fairfax County, Virginia&#8217;s public school system drew national outrage when Fox News revealed its 9/11 lesson plan, whose <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pentagon-witness-blasts-virginia-school-districts-vanilla-9-11-teacher-guide" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first section</a> was &#8220;Responding to Racism, Hate, and Bias against Muslims and Middle Eastern People.&#8221; It instructed teachers to &#8220;leverage a critical lens with students,&#8221; meaning use critical race theory.
&#8220;The commemoration of 9/11 focuses on those whose lives were lost and those who sacrificed to help others &#8211; not those who attacked the United States,&#8221; it says.
But the problem is not limited to deep-blue areas. In a message to families on Friday, Fairfax schools superintendent Michelle Reid said she was &#8220;reviewing our materials as we value feedback from our FCPS community,&#8221; and blamed others for the curriculum, saying administrators drew from &#8220;authoritative subject-matter resources, including materials from the 9:57 Project, which is an association with the mission to connect Veterans with students to perpetuate service, teamwork, and the legacy of Flight 93.&#8221;
The 9:57 Project says it &#8220;provides six lessons on 9/11 and its effects.&#8221; Its <a href="https://drive.google.com/file/d/12QO3tH5rP99wQQL4dhvgRmOjqm65kBcF/view" target="_blank" rel="noopener">94-page curriculum</a> completely omits who attacked America on 9/11, instead focusing on human interest details and the hardships of the United States&#8217; wars in Iraq and Afghanistan afterwards.
The word &#8220;Islam&#8221; does not appear. Some on the left claim describing the terrorists&#8217; ideology as Islamist risks reflecting poorly on all Muslims. Yet that can&#8217;t explain not naming the individuals who committed the attacks. The curriculum does not include the name Osama bin Laden, and does not say al-Qaeda was behind the attacks. It mentions the terrorist group only once in saying that a United States service member was missed by his family because he was &#8220;fighting in the mountains of Afghanistan against al-Qaeda.&#8221;
It has worked with numerous school districts, such as the Pineville and Corbin districts in Kentucky.
That makes it effectively the 9/11 version of the 1619 Project, a revisionist history by far-left New York Times writer Nikole Hannah-Jones that was implanted into schools via a nonprofit&#8217;s realization that teachers don&#8217;t want to bother creating their own lesson plans, and if someone packages and promotes a free one, they will use it.
The concealment of who committed 9/11 has been so pervasive among educators that when PragerU asked college students the question, <a href="https://pjmedia.com/aaron-hanscom/2026/09/11/i-was-a-teacher-on-911-this-video-shows-how-badly-weve-failed-the-next-generation-n4957128" target="_blank" rel="noopener">many of them did not know</a>, and became visibly uncomfortable that their high schools had allowed them to be so ignorant. &#8220;I don&#8217;t want to sound retarded,&#8221; one said, before guessing, &#8220;Israel?&#8221;
The 9:57 Project was founded by Peter Findler, an administrator at the Wakefield School in The Plains, Virginia, and John Hamilton, an Army veteran. It is <a href="https://the957project.org/our-team1/our-leadership" target="_blank" rel="noopener">advised</a> by women from leftist private schools. It did not respond to a request for an interview.
Former Attorney General <a href="https://x.com/JasonMiyaresVA/status/2098518488922927152" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Jason Miyares</a> said on social media that the Fairfax curriculum would &#8220;be like trying to teach Pearl Harbor and leaving out the fact that we were attacked by the Japanese Empire. It’s that absurd.&#8221;
Fairfax County&#8217;s treatment of 9/11 was especially shocking because it is home to many military members and is a few miles from the Pentagon. Yet only one of 12 school board members objected to the curriculum.
&#8220;As someone who witnessed the aftermath of the attack on the Pentagon and as a military dad, I am outraged that Fairfax County Public Schools directed educators and schools to teach our children that 9/11 was about &#8216;Racism, Hate, and Bias against Muslims and Middle Eastern People,'&#8221; Mateo Dunne, whose constituents include residents of Fort Belvoir, told The Daily Wire. &#8220;This is a gross mischaracterization of our history that resembles the worst propaganda propagated by our foreign adversaries.&#8221;
Fairfax instructed teachers not to &#8220;center the extremists or the acts of the extremists,&#8221; and to instead &#8220;create safe spaces for Muslim and Middle Eastern students.&#8221; The reason some Fairfax students might be offended by hearing the names of terrorists who committed 9/11 is because their families are, in fact, tied to terrorist groups.
Some of the 9/11 hijackers attended the Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Fairfax County, whose <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/school-board-member-abrar-omeish-whose-father-led-september-11-hijackers-mosque-opposes-resolution-honoring-victims" target="_blank" rel="noopener">imam</a> was Anwar al-Awlaki, an al-Qaeda operative who later traveled to Yemem, where former president Barack Obama had him killed. Al-Awlaki was hired by mosque director Esam Omeish, whose daughter, Abrar Omeish, later joined the school board, using her position largely to push radical Islam.
Just before the 20th anniversary of September 11, Abrar <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/school-board-member-abrar-omeish-whose-father-led-september-11-hijackers-mosque-opposes-resolution-honoring-victims">opposed a motion</a> to honor the victims of 9/11, instead offering a September 11 resolution that spent one paragraph on dead Americans and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/proposed-9-11-resolution-from-school-board-member-who-spoke-of-jihad-spends-1-paragraph-honoring-dead-americans-10-lamenting-muslim-discrimination">ten paragraphs treating Muslims as the victims</a>. At a school graduation that year, Omeish declined to put her hand over her heart for the pledge of allegiance, and gave a speech telling graduates to remember their &#8220;jihad&#8221; as they entered a world of &#8220;white supremacy.&#8221;
Fairfax County receives extra federal dollars for educating the children of military members, but many say they are treated as second-class citizens, below people who aren&#8217;t citizens at all. In 2022, an FCPS curriculum called for &#8220;Identifying Your Privilege,&#8221; saying that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fairfax-schools-tell-children-of-military-members-that-they-have-privilege" target="_blank" rel="noopener">&#8220;Military Kids&#8221; had privilege</a> alongside &#8220;Cisgenders&#8221; and &#8220;Native English Speakers.&#8221;
Its lessons on slavery do not omit the race of people who owned slaves, or say that their descendants hundreds of years later have nothing to do with it.

An affluent Virginia school district located just miles from where Islamic terrorists crashed a plane into the Pentagon issued guidance for its teachers to not “associate” the devastating 9/11 attacks “with Islam or Muslims.” 
Guidance from Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia told its teachers to be prepared to combat “anti-Muslim bias” in the classroom and to not connect the attacks with any religious motivation. The guidance, <a href="https://www.foxnews.com/politics/pentagon-witness-blasts-virginia-school-districts-vanilla-9-11-teacher-guide">obtained</a> by FOX News, was issued ahead of the 25th anniversary of the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people. 
Fairfax County is located outside Washington, D.C., and just miles away from where the 9/11 terrorists crashed a plane into the Pentagon, killing over 180 people. 
“Expressions of racism, hate, and bias must not be tolerated in the classroom. Consider how you might prepare to stand against anti-Muslim racism in your classroom,” the guidance said. “Consider the classroom conditions that you can build to create safe spaces for Muslim and Middle Eastern students.”
The guidance also instructed teachers to not “associate the 9/11 attacks with Islam or Muslims” and “ignore statements rooted in bias, hate, and racism.” 
“Do not focus a commemorative learning experience about 9/11 on an examination of Islam. Students deserve consistent and meaningful learning about world religions, and about Muslim perspectives and contributions, throughout their K-12 experience,” the guidance said. “But teachers who decide to take a deep dive into world religions as part of their 9/11 lesson unintentionally send the harmful message that Islam, or all Muslims, are responsible for these terrorist attacks.”
Evidence shows that the 19 terrorists behind the attacks were motivated by their adherence to Islam. Writings <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/18/AR2007111800569.html">found</a> from one of the hijackers show him praying for “guidance” and “help” and demonstrate that he believed he would be “entering paradise” after dying in the attacks. Another document found from the hijackers discussed the history of Islam and Muhammad waging war against non-Muslims. 
While recognizing that the attacks were carried out by Al Qaeda, the guidance from Fairfax County said its ideology should not be linked to “Islam or to Muslims as a religious community.” Teachers were also told to “intentionally include Muslim Americans among the heroes, helpers, and victims represented in your teaching about 9/11.”
The school district told FOX News that it was committed to remembering the victims and creating an “inclusive” school environment. 
“We remember the victims, their families, the survivors, and everyone whose lives were forever changed. We honor the first responders whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire us,&#8221; the district said. &#8220;FCPS remains committed to creating an inclusive environment in our schools where all students feel welcome and respected as we strive to provide a world-class education and workplace.&#8221;
Reacting to the guidance, Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) said it should be “ripped up.” 
“On the 25th anniversary, Democrats are trying to downplay the EVIL of 9/11. ISLAMIC TERRORISTS MURDERED 2,977 AMERICANS,” he posted on X. “That shouldn’t be controversial. It’s a damn fact. This ‘guide’ should be ripped up and thrown in the garbage, along with every other socialist rewrite of history.”

The Trump administration deported an illegal immigrant convicted of groping nine girls at the Virginia high school he attended.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement deported Israel Christopher-Ortiz, 19, to his native El Salvador on Tuesday, the Department of Homeland Security announced.
&#8220;This groper is GONE,&#8221; DHS said in an X post Wednesday.
&#8220;Israel Flores-Ortiz, an illegal alien who groped multiple high school girls in Fairfax County, VA, was DEPORTED to El Salvador yesterday,&#8221; the agency said. &#8220;DHS will never stop fighting to REMOVE sickos like Flores-Ortiz, and make America SAFE again.&#8221;
Flores-Ortiz was convicted in April of nine misdemeanor counts of assault and battery after several Fairfax High School students accused him of approaching them from behind and groping them in crowded hallways. Twelve girls <a href="https://patch.com/virginia/fairfaxcity/fairfax-student-sentenced-assaulting-classmates">testified</a> during his trial. He was acquitted on three additional counts, and another was dismissed, <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2026/04/10/fairfax-school-assaults-guilty-israel/">according</a> to the Washington Post.
He was sentenced to just 360 days behind bars for his crimes, followed by supervised probation. His sentence included credit for time already served.
An immigration judge ordered Flores-Ortiz&#8217;s deportation on Aug. 10, according to ICE. The Fairfax County Sheriff&#8217;s Office released him to federal immigration authorities on Aug. 31, three days before his scheduled release.
Flores-Ortiz crossed the border illegally in 2024 and was released into the country, according to ICE. He later enrolled at Fairfax High School.
One of the victims said she&#8217;d grown paranoid after undergoing the abuse.
&#8220;It’s impacting me because back then I didn’t have to look around,&#8221; she previously told ABC7. &#8220;I didn’t have to look around and make sure no one is going to touch me.&#8221;

In a surprising move, sanctuary authorities in Virginia handed an illegal immigrant convicted of groping multiple girls over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Monday.
<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/feds-call-out-sanctuary-policies-after-illegal-immigrant-accused-of-groping-multiple-girls" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Israel Christopher Flores-Ortiz</a>, 19, of El Salvador, groped multiple female students at a Virginia high school and was sentenced to just 360 days behind bars and two years of probation for his crimes. When ICE learned of his arrest in March, the agency lodged a detainer with the Fairfax County Sheriff&#8217;s Office — an agency notorious for releasing illegal immigrants from custody — asking officials to transfer him to federal custody.
On Monday, the sheriff&#8217;s office handed Flores-Ortiz over to ICE.
Sean Kennedy, a member of the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Advisory Board and president of Virginians for Safe Communities, applauded the sheriff&#8217;s move to comply with ICE&#8217;s request but warned that it is likely not indicative of a broader policy change.
&#8220;It&#8217;s a good thing that the Fairfax County Sheriff followed Virginia law in this case and assisted in the orderly transfer of custody of this convicted groper criminal alien. But one case does not prove that Fairfax County has come to its senses on this,&#8221; Kennedy told The Daily Wire.
&#8220;Just a few months ago, the County Board refused to even consider amending its sanctuary policies for the violent criminals and sex predators. I&#8217;m pleased but not optimistic anything will change as long as the county board, who controls the sheriff&#8217;s budget, protects criminal aliens at the expense of both American citizens and immigrants themselves, who are most often the victims of criminal aliens,&#8221; he said.
The Fairfax County Sheriff&#8217;s Office confirmed to The Daily Wire on Monday that &#8220;the inmate was released to ICE.&#8221;
An ICE spokesperson later told The Daily Wire that agents arrested Flores-Ortiz &#8220;following his release from the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center&#8221; on Monday.
Flores-Ortiz crossed the border illegally in 2024, when federal authorities released him into the United States, according to ICE.
He ended up attending Fairfax High School, where roughly a dozen girls accused him of groping them in the school&#8217;s hallways. Some of the girls said he placed his hands between their legs and touched their private areas.
While serving his sentence for the gropings, an immigration judge ordered his deportation on Aug. 10, ICE said.
The agency intends to hold him until he is deported from the United States.
&#8220;Flores-Ortiz had been in the FCADC since March 25 serving his sentence for sexually assaulting nine high-school students. Flores-Ortiz illegally entered the United States in 2024 and was RELEASED into the country under the Biden administration,&#8221; the ICE spokesperson said.
&#8220;Flores-Ortiz will remain in ICE custody pending his removal from the country. Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Mullin, criminal illegal aliens are not welcome – especially those who harm our American communities,&#8221; the spokesperson said.

Where I live, tucked in the Virginia woods in D.C.&#8217;s outer suburbs, a body being found stabbed to death and doused in gasoline is virtually unprecedented. The murder was unsolved, and the killer could be lurking in any of our backyards.
I don&#8217;t typically go on Nextdoor, the hyperlocal social media app designed to bring neighbors together to discuss issues like community safety, but this seemed like exactly what it was made for. Everyone there was on edge.
Its users are already a notoriously jumpy bunch. Every Fourth of July, someone will invariably write that they think they heard gunshots. A man once pleaded with people on his block to stop using their fireplaces in the winter because the smoke coming from chimneys assaulted his nose on his afternoon walks.
Yet when an arrest was made, I could find no stand-down notification on the platform. So I took it upon myself to calm them with a one-sentence message: &#8220;A 19-year-old illegal immigrant has been arrested for stabbing the woman in Great Falls Park.&#8221;
Suddenly, the trembling fear of these residents of a wealthy D.C. enclave reversed. People who endlessly discussed the best way to rat on a neighbor with a barking dog to their HOA turned into gargoyles that took a blasé view of cold-blooded murder.
&#8220;Do you post every time a person from another race commits a crime? Or every time a U.S. citizen commits a crime?&#8221; a woman wrote.
&#8220;There have only been nine murders in Fairfax this year,&#8221; another said, as if that made it no big deal.
On a platform where a large portion of the posts are literally &#8220;I saw a fox, should I be concerned?&#8221; &#8220;I heard a loud noise&#8221; or &#8220;I lost my dog,&#8221; the threshold for alerting neighbors was suddenly revised: A literal murder in our backyards should go unexamined.
Someone posted a picture of white males and wrote, &#8220;These so called citizens kill more than any immigrant.&#8221; Similar posts followed, saying that residents of Fairfax County should instead be on the lookout for white men.
The fear they held hours prior was gone, along with any outrage that murder had crept into a peaceful place, or sympathy for the victim. Multiple people invoked an unnamed academic study which, they said, held that illegal immigrants are more law-abiding than Americans.
Of course, murder in Fairfax County is a rare enough thing that you don&#8217;t need an academic study: There had been eight people arrested for murder this year (one had two victims), so I replied by listing each of their names, along with their immigration status. Four were illegal immigrants. A fifth had a foreign name but an unknown immigration status. A sixth was a juvenile whose information was unknown.
I posted that list with no further comment.
Then I got an email that anonymous moderators had deleted my post for &#8220;discrimination.&#8221;
With the facts deleted, residents then suggested that the stabbing in our quiet community wasn&#8217;t at the hands of an illegal immigrant at all. After all, how could multiple sources fail to mention such an obviously significant fact if it were true?
&#8220;Where are you seeing he&#8217;s illegal? I&#8217;ve read several articles and not one said,&#8221; one said.

Nextdoor&#8217;s moderators (the site literally encourages people to &#8220;report a neighbor&#8221; to its anonymous mods) seemed to be concerned that too many people were finding out the truth. A few hours after I posted the thread, I received another email saying my entire account had been &#8220;temporarily suspended&#8221; due to the original one-sentence post, and the whole thread was whisked into the ether.

Sean Kennedy, who runs a public safety nonprofit called Virginians for Safe Communities, postulated that the site may object to the language &#8220;illegal immigrant,&#8221; preferring euphemisms like &#8220;people who are unlawfully present.&#8221;
So he made a similar post without using the term.
His account, too, was banned.
It didn&#8217;t seem to be language they objected to — it was people knowing the facts at all. Those who posted the <a href="https://www.fox5dc.com/news/half-fairfax-county-homicide-suspects-2026-u-s-illegally">local TV story</a> &#8220;Half of Fairfax County homicide suspects in 2026 are in the U.S. illegally&#8221; also were sanctioned.
Illegal immigrant crime has become a hot-button topic in Northern Virginia because any clear-eyed view of crime in general will spot the wildly disproportionate connection — and Democrats&#8217; role in it. Just this week, we learned that an illegal alien and Islamic extremist who killed someone in Fairfax in 2019 fled the country after the local prosecutor, Steve Descano, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/islamist-immigrant-murderer-allowed-to-flee- country-was-given-48-hour-leave-from-mental-hospital">helped him get a foreign passport</a>.
Some Virginia residents have wondered: How can Fairfax residents keep voting for this? There are multiple reasons, but one is that they genuinely don&#8217;t know it&#8217;s happening.
Virginians elected Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, for governor just months ago. On her first day in office, she signed an executive order ending cooperation between Virginia&#8217;s prisons and ICE. This has been the focus of a high-profile dispute every time one of these murders occurs, with Spanberger refusing to agree to turn the murderer over for deportation after his sentence.
Yet when the area&#8217;s congressman, Don Beyer, was asked about this horrific case, he didn&#8217;t defend the Democrat line — he pretended it wasn&#8217;t happening. &#8220;My understanding of the law is anyone who&#8217;s committed a serious felony is turned over to ICE,&#8221; he said.
If Democrats want to run on a policy that illegal immigrants should be able to enter the country at will, and be helped to stay even after they kill someone, that&#8217;s their right. But doing it while hiding it, and the effects, shouldn&#8217;t be.
Hyperlocal social media is a promising idea, but Nextdoor has bungled the chance for billions of dollars as badly as Virginia&#8217;s politicians bungled the chance to save four people&#8217;s lives this year. Nextdoor&#8217;s message that at least half of actual Americans aren&#8217;t welcome as customers might explain why it is <a href="https://about.nextdoor.com/press-releases/nextdoor-reports-second-quarter-2026-results">losing millions of dollars</a>. 
The site didn&#8217;t respond to a request for comment.
Ironically, people in our sleepy corner of Fairfax County will be better informed by The Daily Wire, a Nashville-based publication, than by one that&#8217;s supposedly hyper-local. Here&#8217;s the truth about every alleged murderer in Fairfax this year:

Only two 2026 murderers in Fairfax County are known to be Americans. One is Leland Jameson, a retired university professor and the only white man on the list. The other is Justin Fairfax — a black Democrat politician who served as lieutenant governor of Virginia and <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disgraced-democrat-used-his-kids-money-to-help-murder-their-mother">shot his wife</a> in April.

An illegal immigrant from El Salvador is accused of fatally stabbing a Virginia mother before dumping her lifeless body near a jogging trail in Great Falls, Virginia, The Daily Wire has learned.
Police in Fairfax County said Wednesday that authorities had arrested 19-year-old Alexis Antonio Cedillos-Campos in connection with the homicide of Carmen Lizet Puch. Cedillos-Campos crossed the southern border into El Paso, Texas, in April 2024 and was quickly released into the United States, law enforcement sources told The Daily Wire.
At the time of his border crossing, Cedillos-Campos said he did not fear returning to his native country of El Salvador, but he was released anyway, sources said.
A jogger discovered Puch&#8217;s body just before 7 a.m. on Monday near her 2011 Honda Civic, which was parked in the lot at Difficult Run Park along Georgetown Pike near Old Dominion Drive, according to 7News.
&#8220;In Great Falls, it’s probably one of the safest places ever in the world,&#8221; Clare, who was out hiking with a friend Tuesday, said. &#8220;To have something happen like that feels personal, scary.&#8221;
Authorities said more details would be provided Wednesday afternoon.
&#8220;There is no immediate indication that this was a random act,&#8221; Capt. Jason Chandler said during a news conference on Monday.
Puch was the mother of a young daughter and worked with Cedillos-Campos at Bitez restaurant in Herndon, according to NBC Washington. Cedillos-Campos allegedly stabbed Puch while she was inside her vehicle.
Abdul Anwari, the owner of Bitez, said he and his employees were shocked after learning of Puch&#8217;s murder, NBC Washington reported.
“I don&#8217;t know if you can process something like this. It&#8217;s not something you expect. It&#8217;s not something that anyone would ever want to happen,” he told News4. “But you know, we&#8217;re still taking it [a] minute at a time.”
Anwari said a fundraiser has been set up to support Puch&#8217;s surviving daughter.
“We have a GoFundMe account set up, but we&#8217;re actually doing, we are personally donating to the family as well,” Anwari said. “But anyone in the community that can help, obviously, this is going to go directly to the family, and as far as I&#8217;m concerned, it should go to the daughter and make sure that she&#8217;s OK.”
Puch&#8217;s family members, who live in New Jersey, immediately drove to Virginia after learning of her killing to take care of her daughter, according to NBC Washington.

An Islamist illegal alien murderer was allowed to escape back to his home country thanks to Virginia officials, who failed to get a guilty verdict even after he admitted guilt, helped him get a foreign passport, and allowed him to leave the mental hospital on unsupervised visits.
In 2019, Abdulloi Toshpulodzoda stabbed his roommate Mohammed Hemmatian to death in their Vienna, Virginia home. He was found &#8220;covered in blood from head to toe,&#8221; and told police &#8220;I am guilty,&#8221; according to court records. Less than a decade later he&#8217;s escaped punishment and is back home in his native Tajikistan.
Court records show that Fairfax County was paying for an apartment for Toshpulodzoda to live in while on leave from his mental health facility. While on the 48-hour pass, and he bought a one-way ticket and fled to his country, which borders Afghanistan in Central Asia.
&#8220;On July 6, 2026, the Acquittee was permitted to leave [the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute] on an approved forty-eight hour pass to an apartment made available through the Fairfax Permanent Supportive Housing Program,&#8221; the court documents obtained by The Daily Wire say. &#8220;He boarded an international flight at Washington Dulles International Airport and traveled to Istanbul, Turkey. He thereafter traveled to Dushanbe, Tajikistan.&#8221;
Although Toshpulodzoda admitted guilt for the murder, he was found not guilty by reason of insanity after his attorney said he was &#8220;fixated on religious topics and he was illogical and nonsensical.
&#8220;His brother would take him to a mosque for spiritual cleansing,&#8221; the lawyer said. &#8220;Unfortunately, his family did not assist Mr. Tospulodozoda with mental health treatment.&#8221;
A psychologist named Sahair Monfared was put in charge of evaluating the man &#8220;given the intertwining of Islam with Mr. Tospulodozoda&#8217;s delusions,&#8221; and he recommended that he be granted the not guilty ruling. Another independent psychologist hired by the prosecutor&#8217;s office agreed.
In October 2022, the not guilty by reason of insanity judgment was entered &#8220;with the concurrence of&#8221; the county prosecutor, Democrat Steve Descano, who won office with the financial backing of George Soros.
In May 2024, Descano teamed up with the murderer&#8217;s lawyer to ask the judge to give him &#8220;permission for an escorted visit&#8230; to the Tajikistan Embassy in Washington, D.C. to obtain a passport.&#8221;

In 2025, the Fairfax County Community Services Board and Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute acknowledged that Toshpulodzoda was an illegal immigrant and murderer, but said &#8220;the Forensic Review Panel is of the opinion that Mr. Toshpulodzoda is an appropriate candidate for conditional release,&#8221; meaning being able to leave confinement for good. The &#8220;conditional release plan&#8221; was signed by Azure Baron, chair of the panel, and six other officials.
On June 11, 2026, Judge Stephen Shannon blocked the permanent release, writing that &#8220;the Acquittee remained mentally ill and in need of inpatient hospitalization&#8221; and &#8220;shall not be released from custody and inpatient hospitalization without further order of this Court.&#8221;
Descano opposed the release. The judge&#8217;s reasons for blocking release included shielding the murderer from deportation, with court records saying the &#8220;Acquittee will not receive treatment if deported.&#8221;
Just days later on June 25, the mental hospital, which is operated by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, authorized him for one of his &#8220;unaccompanied community visits not exceeding forty-eight hours,&#8221; which they had permitted since 2024, and which prosecutors said did not conflict with the ruling. The Department did not return a request for comment.
Descano&#8217;s chief of staff, Laura Birnbaum, told The Daily Wire that the prosecutor&#8217;s office helped him get a passport &#8220;for documentary purposes,&#8221; and that the not-guilty ruling &#8220;is made by a judge after reviews from multiple independent clinicians.&#8221;
&#8220;We have opposed his release specifically because of community concerns,&#8221; she said. Asked if Descano believed he should be deported, she said &#8220;our goal is to make sure people are not harmed wherever he ends up,&#8221; suggesting that deporting him would place a murderer on the loose in another country.
She declined to say whether Descano opposes mental hospitals allowing murders 48-hour passes that cause them to live in the Virginia community. She said those decisions are up to the mental health department.
However, a similar case in neighboring Loudoun County contradicts that. When the mental hospital proposed granting 16 hour unsupervised visits to Melvin Wasike, who similarly stabbed someone to death, Republican prosecutor Bob Anderson publicly objected and contacted the hospital, which reversed its decision.
Descano has asked the judge for a &#8220;judicial capias&#8221; so Toshpulodzoda &#8220;may be apprehended and detained if he presents at any United States port of entry or is otherwise located within the United States.&#8221; The filing makes no mention of attempting to locate him abroad.
Since 2021, 15 murderers in Fairfax County, nine of them with foreign names, have been ruled not guilty by reason of insanity or not competent to stand trial, according to data compiled by Virginians for Safe Communities.
Descano is under investigation by the federal government after his campaign platform said he would help illegal immigrants avoid &#8220;immigration consequences.&#8221; The federal government and Republicans in Congress said that <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-county-d-a-handing-out-get-out-of-jail-free-cards">amounted to discrimination</a>. Descano denied implementing his campaign promise, but a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/fairfax-prosecutor-broke-law-by-treating-illegals-more-favorably-ag-alleges">long list of cases</a> show Descano repeatedly declining or dropping egregious charges against illegal immigrants.
A large portion of the murders in Fairfax have come at the hands of illegals, such as Sierra Leone national <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/illegal-immigrant-accused-of-another-brutal-virginia-murder">Abdul Jalloh</a>, 32, who had 30 prior arrests – almost all dropped by Descano – before he allegedly murdered Stephanie Minter at a Fairfax County bus stop, and Salvadoran migrant Marvin Morales-Ortez, 23, who allegedly fatally shot a man a day after authorities released him from jail and ignored a federal immigration detainer.

Communities across the country are fighting to keep data centers out. Columbia County, Georgia, is hoping one moves in so it can eliminate residential property taxes.
“The data center will produce more revenue when built and fleshed out,” Columbia County Board of Commissioners Chairman Doug Duncan said. “It’s going to take a couple of years, [but] it’ll produce more tax revenue than the homestead that comes from taxes in Columbia County. Our long-term objective with this is to eliminate the homestead tax.” 
For the owner of the county&#8217;s median-priced home, valued at roughly $305,000, that could mean saving about $2,900 a year. Renters could also benefit if landlords pass those savings on through lower rents.
 Columbia County recently purchased almost 2,000 acres near an Amazon facility for the proposed data center. Officials estimate the project could generate $400 million in tax revenue. Duncan said the figure &#8220;boggles my mind because we have $100 million in a general fund. It&#8217;s hard for me to believe it&#8217;s that much.&#8221; 
If the project is successful, Duncan said Columbia County would, to his knowledge, become the first county in the nation to eliminate residential property taxes. 
On Thursday, President Donald Trump praised communities that welcome data centers.
“You have communities that really want the data centers and, frankly, those are the smart communities,” Trump said.
Trump explained data center construction creates “tremendous numbers of jobs” with “very little actual disruption,” and added that some communities are “begging for” the facilities because of the tax revenue they generate. 
Other communities have not eliminated residential property taxes, but officials say data centers have significantly boosted local education budgets and teacher pay. 
A Redfin analysis found that Virginia’s two largest data center hubs, located in Loudoun County and Prince William County, have drastically outspent their neighboring counties on education over the past 15 years. 
Teacher salaries in Loudoun County rose about 40% from 2010 to 2023. In neighboring Fairfax County, salaries rose about 29% to roughly $82,000. 
Richland Parish, Louisiana, has reported similar benefits following Meta&#8217;s data center expansion.
“Last year, our teachers received a $10,000 bonus, this year that check was over $50,000,” said Sheldon Jones, Superintendent of the Richland Parish School District. “It’s life-altering for our teachers and their families, and it&#8217;s transforming our schools.” 
“With bonuses like that, the best educators come to you. And if we can attract the best teachers, we could become one of the best school districts in our region.”
Opposition to data centers isn’t partisan, with both sides of the aisle advocating for their demise. There are more than 300 local groups organizing against new facilities. Last week alone, organizers staged <a href="https://time.com/article/2026/07/22/community-backlash-ai-data-centers/">142</a> protests across 42 states, <a href="https://www.americanrivers.org/rivers-and-data-centers/?gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=12077091751&amp;gbraid=0AAAAAD-YJLR6T16vxDtzFzWk_pRf_Xuzy&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw94bTBhDQARIsAN3vv0zDpU9WgIdSWG4b00Vjisrg7VmReeH5GoG9fXh70xgzu2bIoLlrYyAaAlcDEALw_wcB">citing</a> concerns about water use, environmental impacts, and potential increased utility costs.

Eighty days. That is how long Fairfax’s chief prosecutor took to speak with the mother of Stephanie Minter, the 41-year-old woman murdered at a bus stop in late February by a repeat violent offender and illegal alien.
Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano waited until the cameras were rolling at a House Judiciary hearing investigating the role his policies and practices may have played in Stephanie’s death. He could have called. He didn’t. He could have visited. He didn’t. Descano even avoided the opportunity to meet Cheryl and Stephanie’s brother, Ashton, in private immediately before the hearing. Instead of waiting in the anteroom reserved for him adjacent to Cheryl’s, Descano hid in the Democratic committee offices. When he did emerge minutes before the hearing, he <a href="https://x.com/NickMinock/status/2054930429031964843">walked right behind</a> Cheryl. He didn’t stop. He averted his eyes, then tapped former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares on the back and shook his hand.
I know because I was there, seated next to Cheryl Minter at the witness table.
He then delivered his opening statement full of crocodile tears but no mea culpa for having allowed Stephanie’s killer, Abdul Jalloh, to go free time after time. Under Descano’s watch, Jalloh had been arrested more than 30 times, faced more than 40 charges, including five separate malicious-wounding charges (Virginia’s equivalent of attempted murder) from 2023 to 2025.
In November 2025, police <a href="https://www.fox5dc.com/news/fairfax-police-warned-prosecutors-about-repeat-offender-months-before-deadly-bus-stop-stabbing">warned</a> Descano’s top deputy that Jalloh would “maliciously wound (or worse)” someone again if prosecutors let him go free. They did. He killed Stephanie three months later.
The House Judiciary committee’s hearing last week focused largely on the Fairfax Commonwealth’s Attorney’s “immigration consequences” policy, which directs line prosecutors to “consider immigration consequences where possible and where doing so accords with justice [and] … the detrimental impact that deportation/removal has on the families and communities those removed or deported leave behind.”
That policy clearly suggests that illegal immigrants or any deportable alien earns preferential treatment under Descano’s “<a href="https://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/commonwealthattorney/plea-bargaining-charging-decisions-and-sentencing-policy">Plea Bargaining, Charging Decisions, and Sentencing Policy</a>” guidelines promulgated in December 2020, the year he took office.
But under questioning from GOP committee members, Descano repeatedly disputed that, pointing (albeit inarticulately) to the last lines of his policy: “[t]he resolution will be different in a way that avoids or lessens collateral immigration consequences, but will not be better than a resolution offered to a defendant that does not face such collateral issues.”
Different but the same. Got it.
In a heated exchange, House Judiciary chairman Jim Jordan interrogated Descano about <a href="https://www.acluva.org/ray-morrogh-and-steve-descanos-responses-aclu-vas-questionnaire-criminal-justice-reform/">prior pledges</a> to discriminate in favor of criminal alien defendants. Notably, Jordan waived a printout of Descano’s <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20260310203213/https:/stevedescano.com/community">campaign website </a>(which he deleted before the hearing) that declared “Steve’s office will take immigration consequences into account when making charging and plea decisions … If two people commit the same crime, but only one’s punishment includes deportation, that’s a perversion of justice and not a reflection of the values of Fairfax County.”
The same but different. Again.
Here, Descano withered under Jordan’s questioning, trying to distinguish his campaign promises from his official policies, saying he couldn’t “believe people would be so obtuse that they couldn’t realize what the difference was between a campaign statement and an actual office policy.”
For Fairfax’s chief prosecutor, it went downhill from there. A few of the committee’s Democrats ceded their time to Descano to better explain himself, instead preferring to lean in on anti-ICE rhetoric and their witnesses’ generic pro-illegal immigration arguments.
One theme that emerged as a counternarrative was that Fairfax was the “safest county of its size in the United States.”
Democratic Representative Pramila Jayapal also asked Descano if the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCCA) rated Fairfax County “among the safest jurisdictions of its size.” Descano gleefully concurred. Reps. Jamie Raskin and Jerrold Nadler repeated the claim.
But they all omitted the alarming trend that the same <a href="https://majorcitieschiefs.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/MCCA-Violent-Crime-Report-2026-and-2025-First-Quarter.pdf">data</a> actually shows violent crime has skyrocketed since Steve Descano became Fairfax’s chief prosecutor and hasn’t fallen even as it has plummeted elsewhere.
Overall, Fairfax County&#8217;s violent crime — murder, rape, robbery, and aggravated assault — was up 92% in 2025 compared with 2019. Meanwhile, “<a href="https://www.fcpod.org/pages/crime-data">crimes against persons</a>,” which includes all violent crimes, sex offenses, and simple assaults, rose 27% according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
So, Fairfax is less safe since Descano became its prosecutor. Meanwhile, in nearby Montgomery County, Maryland, which is almost exactly the same size as Fairfax but has a tough-on-crime prosecutor in Democrat John McCarthy, the <a href="https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/montgomery-county-police-department/public-safety-data/annual-crime-safety-reports">crime rate </a>has fallen below that of <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/why-is-montgomery-countys-violent-crime-rate-twice-as-high-as-fairfax-countys">famously safe</a> <a href="https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/03bcc658f4f44662ab70308157c31d0e">Fairfax County</a> for both property and person crimes.
Similarly sized Suffolk County, New York (which does cooperate with ICE) has also seen crime drop during the period.
But those abstract figures distract from the deeply personal human tragedy that Descano’s policies have wrought. By shielding criminal aliens from “immigration consequences,” hundreds, if not thousands, of violent and sex crimes could have been prevented, including over a dozen murders.
In addition to extending extreme leniency to Abdul Jalloh, Descano freed Marvin Morales-Ortez, who was previously arrested for murder years before, and released him after dropping charges for malicious wounding and brandishing a firearm in December 2025. Within 24 hours, Ortez allegedly killed a man in Reston. Or Maldin Anibal Guzman, who, despite being arrested nine times, including for at least two prior attempted murders, was freed to kill a man behind a convenience store in 2024. Just last month, Guzman received only five years for that killing.
In all three cases (Jalloh, Ortez, and Guzman), Descano offered the same excuse: witness noncooperation or unavailability. It is never Mr. Descano’s fault, you see. Except in the Jalloh cases, he was caught red-handed lying to the media. In at least two of Jalloh’s prior attempted murders, Fairfax prosecutors never even bothered to <a href="https://wjla.com/newsletter-daily/descano-says-victims-wouldnt-aid-abdul-jalloh-prosecution-heres-what-we-found-illegal-immigrant-fairfax-county-commonwealths-attorney-steve-descano-testimony">subpoena</a> the witnesses.
And Descano’s pattern of lying was on full display at the hearing when he attempted to rebut multiple members who questioned him about the illegal alien pedophile Hyrum Baquedano Rodriguez’s case (my detailed testimony is <a href="https://judiciary.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/republicans-judiciary.house.gov/files/2026-05/Kennedy-Testimony.pdf">here</a>).
Descano tried to plea out the would-be kidnapper and rapist of a four-year-old to a maximum of two years, who potentially faced life in prison, saying he “did not have strong evidence.” Two separate judges rejected the plea as too lenient. In a fit, Descano dropped the charges altogether, and Baquedano-Rodriguez, who had an extensive history of child sex crimes, would have walked free if the girl’s grandmother had not herself called ICE to pick him up. He has since been deported — no thanks to Mr. Descano’s policy of thwarting “immigration consequences.”
As damning as the hearing was for Mr. Descano, his implied defense that he engages in unlawful discrimination based on immigration status is persuasive, if unsettling: Fairfax’s chief prosecutor is not soft on dangerous criminal aliens — he is equally lenient toward violent repeat offenders of all backgrounds.
The Department of Justice has launched an investigation to find out the truth. Whatever DOJ finds, one thing is already clear: Fairfax County victims are being re-victimized by the man entrusted with protecting them.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) identified Anibal Armando Chavarria Muy, 38, who allegedly repeatedly stabbed a man to death in Fairfax County Sunday, as a &#8220;criminal illegal alien from Guatemala,&#8221; <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/baileys-crossroads-deadly-stabbing-murder-anibal-armando-chavarria-muy-charged-fairfax-county-virginia-crime" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to ABC7.
Authorities found the victim inside a home with multiple stab wounds in his upper body Sunday, ABC7 reported. He later died at the hospital.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer with the Fairfax County Sheriff&#8217;s Office, which has notoriously flouted the federal immigration agency&#8217;s demands to hand over illegal immigrant criminals.
Meanwhile, DHS has placed the blame on Democratic Governor Abigail Spanberger for the tragic killing, calling her out for another recent murder by an illegal immigrant.
Sierra Leone national Abdul Jalloh, 32, who had 30 prior arrests, allegedly murdered 41-year-old mother Stephanie Minter at a Fairfax County bus stop last month. Jalloh&#8217;s rap sheet included arrests for rape, malicious wounding, assault, drug possession, identity theft, trespassing, larceny, firing a weapon, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and pickpocketing, according to DHS.
Spanberger earlier said ICE&#8217;s detainer for Jalloh&#8217;s arrest wouldn’t be enough for local law enforcement to hand him over to immigration authorities for deportation.
&#8220;ICE is calling on Virginia Governor Abigail Spanberger and Virginia&#8217;s sanctuary politicians to not release this murderer back into our communities,” DHS Acting Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Lauren Bis told ABC7. “This incident comes just one month after an innocent woman was murdered by another criminal illegal alien at a bus stop in Spanberger’s state. Open-border policies yet again have caused another preventable tragedy.”
When Spanberger entered office, she ended a cooperation agreement between state and local law enforcement and ICE. The day after Minter&#8217;s murder, the governor characterized ICE as “unaccountable agents” who “terrorize our communities&#8221; in the Democratic response to the State of the Union.
In almost every one of Jalloh&#8217;s previous cases, Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano’s office dropped the charges, ABC7 previously <a href="https://wjla.com/news/local/illegal-immigrant-with-long-criminal-record-accused-of-killing-woman-in-fairfax-county-abdul-emails-jalloh-stephanie-minter-commonwealths-attorney-steve-descano" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Authorities also previously warned about the dangers he posed to the community.
An officer with the Fairfax County Police Department notified Descano’s office in November, cautioning that he could continue to commit crimes if he&#8217;s released, according to emails obtained by 7News reporter Nick Minock.
Muy was charged with second-degree murder and is being held without bond, <a href="https://fcpdnews.wordpress.com/2026/03/30/officers-quickly-arrest-suspect-after-fatal-stabbing-in-baileys-crossroads/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Fairfax County Police Department.
DHS said he snuck into the country as a &#8220;gotaway,&#8221; which means he made it past border authorities without detection, according to ABC7.
Muy also had an assault and battery charge from November 2024, when he was accused of punching a woman and attempting to strangle her, the outlet reported. A judge later dismissed the charge.
The Arlington Commonwealth’s Attorney said the charge &#8220;was dismissed at the request of the victim pursuant to 19.2-151, an accord and satisfaction,” in a statement to ABC7.
“Under that statute, the courts have discretion to dismiss a misdemeanor assault case (which this was charged as) when a defendant pays restitution to a victim. Here, the victim had expressed that the most important issue to them was restitution, which was paid. We try to honor the wishes of a victim, even though I do not favor resolution of cases by accord and satisfaction where violence is involved,&#8221; the attorney said.

Illegal Immigrant Accused Of Another Brutal Virginia Murder

Santa&#8217;s naughty list this year includes several sanctuary cities and states that allowed illegal immigrant criminals to roam their streets, many of whom went on to commit more egregious crimes.
Sanctuary cities and states adopt policies that prevent local police from notifying federal immigration authorities about the looming release of illegal immigrants from local jails. They also bar federal authorities from entering jails to interview illegal immigrant suspects.
The Trump administration has sued several sanctuary jurisdictions, including Minnesota, New York City, Boston, Illinois, and Los Angeles, over the policies.
These are some of the worst offenders.
<h4>New York City</h4>
Since President Donald Trump&#8217;s inauguration, local police in New York City released roughly 7,000 illegal immigrants from local jails without honoring Immigration and Customs Enforcement&#8217;s detainer requests to have them placed into federal custody, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
They account for nine homicides, 2,509 assaults, 199 burglaries, 305 robberies, 392 dangerous drugs offenses, 300 weapons offenses, and 207 sexual predatory offenses.
Mario Bustamante-Leiva, 49, the Chilean illegal immigrant accused of snatching Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem&#8217;s purse in Washington, D.C., in April, was arrested in New York for a similar crime just a few weeks earlier — but they let him go with a desk appearance ticket and a court date, <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/28/us-news/illegal-migrant-accused-in-kristi-noems-purse-snatching-had-ny-arrest-warrant-out/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the New York Post.
He never showed up to that scheduled court date and bounced over to the nation&#8217;s capital to allegedly purse snatch the cabinet official.
In a separate example of the sanctuary&#8217;s consequences, the two Dominican illegal immigrants accused in the shooting of an off-duty Customs and Border Protection officer in New York City in July both had rap sheets.
One of them, Christhian Aybar-Berroa, 22, was arrested by the NYPD eight times and released each time prior to the attack, <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/07/21/us-news/illegal-migrant-arrested-in-nyc-shooting-of-off-duty-cpb-agent-was-free-despite-long-rap-sheet-and-suspected-in-scooter-robbery-spree-sources/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the New York Post. He also had a deportation order from January 2023.
Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, also racked up several arrests in New York City, including for allegedly assaulting a pregnant woman and threatening to kill a fellow migrant with a machete, according to the New York Post.
He was also wanted on kidnapping and weapons charges out of Massachusetts, the outlet previously reported.

<h4>Illinois</h4>
Authorities in Illinois have released more than 1,700 criminal illegal immigrants with ICE detainer requests from local jails since Inauguration Day, according to DHS.
The Trump administration commenced &#8220;Operation Midway Blitz&#8221; in September to target the sanctuary city of Chicago and arrest illegal immigrants released by local authorities.
ICE has current detainers lodged against roughly 4,000 illegal immigrants in state custody, according to DHS.
Democratic Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson responded to the federal operation by creating &#8220;ICE-free zones&#8221; across the Windy City.
In October, local police were reportedly told to stand down from assisting Border Patrol agents, who “were rammed by vehicles and boxed in by 10 cars” in Broadview, Illinois, Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin <a href="https://x.com/TriciaOhio/status/1974524869892276682" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> on X at the time.
Agents determined that one of the alleged attackers was &#8220;armed with a semi-automatic weapon,&#8221; forcing them to “fire defensive shots at an unarmed U.S. citizen,” according to McLaughlin.
<h4>Minnesota</h4>
When ICE descended on Minneapolis earlier this month, leaders in the sanctuary state were quick to side with illegal immigrants roaming the state.
Democratic Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey responded to the increased presence of federal immigration authorities by pledging to continue to refuse cooperation with ICE.

Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, who has likened ICE to “Trump’s modern-day Gestapo,” condemned the agency&#8217;s actions in his state.
The federal operation resulted in roughly 400 arrests of illegal immigrants.
Somali immigrant Abdimahat Bille Mohamed was let go as part of a plea agreement in two sexual assault cases earlier this year before he went on to allegedly rape a child and multiple adult women before allegedly kidnapping a woman and raping her, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/serial-kidnapper-and-rapist-charged-federally" target="_blank" rel="noopener">according</a> to the Department of Justice, which has since charged him federally.
“This Somali national in Minnesota is charged with raping a minor and multiple adult women before being detained — only to be quickly released by a local court, after which he committed yet another rape. This horrific case illustrates how left-wing soft-on-crime policies and vetting failures put innocent people at dire risk. If Minnesota will not protect its own people, the Department of Justice will do it for them,” Attorney General Pam Bondi said of the case earlier this month.
<h4>Fairfax County, Virginia</h4>
Authorities in Fairfax County, Virginia, released Salvadoran migrant Marvin Morales-Ortez, 23, who allegedly went on to murder a man less than 24 hours later.
Morales-Ortez allegedly fatally shot a man inside his Reston, Virginia, home after he was released from a local jail by authorities who ignored a federal immigration detainer to hand him over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to multiple reports.
Morales-Ortez crossed the southern border illegally in 2016, federal law enforcement sources recently told The Daily Wire.
An immigration judge dismissed his deportation case in 2022, effectively allowing him to stay in the country without any legal status, sources said.
He was also tagged as a suspected member of the violent MS-13 gang, according to ABC7.
Morales-Ortez had a lengthy rap sheet before committing his latest alleged crime.
In 2021, he was charged with first-degree murder, according to ABC7. He spent a year and a half in jail while awaiting trial, but was ultimately released after the authorities dropped the charges following a determination that someone else was to blame.
Morales-Ortez was found guilty of a previous theft case and fined $300, which he never paid, according to ABC7.
The illegal immigrant was charged for allegedly brandishing a gun and assaulting and injuring someone before he was released by sanctuary authorities this latest time, the local outlet reported.
The Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office dropped the case, leading to his release.
After a lengthy manhunt, authorities rearrested him.
