<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 50-year-old actress has been dating fellow movie star </span><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/ryan-gosling"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Ryan Gosling</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> since 2011 when they met on the set of “The Place Beyond the Pines.” The couple has two daughters, born in 2014 and 2016.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mendes mentioned her career pause during an </span><a href="https://twitter.com/TODAYshow/status/1772630680872038651?s=20"><span style="font-weight: 400;">interview</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> that aired Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It was like a no-brainer,” the “Training Day” star said of leaving acting behind. “I’m so lucky. And I was like, if I can have this time with my children – and I still work, I just didn’t act, because acting takes you on locations, it takes you away,” Mendes explained.</span></p>

<p>Actress Eva Mendes talked about a possible return to acting, but explained that as a mom of four kids, there are things she won&#8217;t do anymore — and that&#8217;s a role about &#8220;sexuality&#8221; or &#8220;violence.&#8221;</p>
<p>During the 48-year-old actress’ appearance on &#8220;<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjdBdWYUKk4">The View</a>&#8221; Tuesday, the &#8220;Ghost Rider&#8221; star told one of the co-hosts of the ABC daytime talk show, Whoopi Goldberg, that she was open to returning to the big screen, but as a mother, the project must meet certain obligations, and she admitted the &#8220;list is short.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;You know, Whoopi, I have such a short list of what I will do,&#8221; the &#8220;Hitch&#8221; star shared. &#8220;Like before kids &#8230; I mean, if it was a fun project. But now I won&#8217;t do — I don’t wanna do violence, I don&#8217;t wanna do sexuality, the list is short.&#8221;</p>

<p>When Mendes was pressed by co-host Sunny Hostin if the actress would return for a &#8220;special project&#8221; that fit those requirements, &#8220;The Other Guys&#8221; star said, &#8220;I hope so. I would like to. It has to be nice and clean.&#8221;</p>
<p>Later, Hostin asked the actress about why she decided to take a break from social media last year.</p>
<p>&#8220;I took a break from social media because I started feeling really phony in it,&#8221; Mendes shared. &#8220;You know, you hear, &#8216;you need to put out content, content,&#8217; and it&#8217;s like, okay, content, but okay, what is that? So, I started seeing my day like, &#8216;is this a social media post?’ …  and I was like, I don&#8217;t want to live like that.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;I want to have more genuine, like, ‘oh, that&#8217;s cool to post,’” she added. &#8220;But not seek it out. And I started feeling phony.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;Yes! I agree. Every time I was &#8216;disciplined&#8217; growing up, I only felt fear and shame. IT never &#8216;corrected&#8217; behavior. I would never hit my child to teach them a lesson and inflict psychological and physical pain, but that’s just me,&#8221; one follower said.</p>
<p>&#8220;If an adult hits an adult that&#8217;s called assault and they can press charges and end up in jail yet when a defenseless child is hit it&#8217;s called discipline,&#8221; said another follower.</p>
<p>&#8220;Love this quote! I have three kids so I understand the urge to spank! (Also most of us were raised in cultures or families where physical discipline is routine and accepted so I get it) Spanking, though, is loss of control on the part of the parent,&#8221; another said. &#8220;As parents were are trying to teach our kids how to communicate in a healthy way even when we are really, really upset. We are also helping them build those internal controls so that they do not lash out on others when things do not go their way or they are frustrated, angry or upset. We have to model what we want to see in our kids. (And we won’t be perfect so that includes apologizing when we mess up!)&#8221;</p>
<p>Some followers, however, disagreed and defended spanking as a disciplinary tactic.</p>
<p>&#8220;I hear ya Eva but I disagree. You can use a spanking to correct a child. Pain grabs their attention. BUT there is a big difference between spanking and abuse. Spanking out of anger or without talking to the child and correcting their behavior is abuse. ALSO not every child needs to be spanked,&#8221; said one follower.</p>
<p>&#8220;Children that get spanked on occasion seem a lot better behaved&#8230;.but the key is to not over do it,&#8221; another follower said.</p>

Mendes was responding to a quote from the account Latinx Parenting that said, &#8220;Let your kids call you out. It&#8217;s not disrespect. It&#8217;s healthy. Kids can be so fiercely aligned with their value that they will taken nothing less than the respect they deserve. They will take no BS. Not even from you. Congratulations, you raising an empowered child.&#8221;</p>
