A brief trip back to my native Britain the other week was a depressing experience.
There has been widespread rioting in cities across England following the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/more-than-a-dozen-people-mostly-children-stabbed-by-17-year-old-male-in-u-k-multiple-fatalities-reported" target="_blank" rel="noopener">murder</a> of three young girls in Southport at a Taylor Swift dance class.
A large number of Brits, I think it is fair to say, are extremely <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/people-have-finally-had-enough-of-the-illegal-immigration-takeover" target="_blank" rel="noopener">agitated</a> about uncontrolled (often illegal) immigration. Tens of thousands of migrants have been allowed to flood into the country on small dinghies from France. 1 in 27 people now living in Britain arrived in the past two years. 4 in 10 foreign-born people in Britain have arrived in the past decade. 
There is a palpable sense that nothing in Britain runs the way it should, least of all the criminal justice system.
The number of <a href="https://rapecrisis.org.uk/get-informed/statistics-sexual-violence/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recorded rapes</a> in England and Wales in 2023-24 was three times higher than in 2013-14. A recent investigation discovered that across much of the country, the police had not identified a single suspect for neighborhood crimes over the previous three years. Only a few weeks before the unrest erupted, the authorities announced that even violent offenders would be released from prison after serving a mere 40 percent of their sentences.
Then came the riots, and the authorities suddenly discovered that it is possible to arrest and prosecute criminals after all. Prosecutions that would normally take months to come to court were undertaken within a few days. That, plus the return of British rain, seems to have dampened the spirits of the troublemakers.
Instead of clamping down on immigration, or addressing some of the underlying concerns about Muslim integration (or lack thereof), the authorities seem to find it easier to clamp down on <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/the-uks-orwellian-crackdown-on-free-speech-could-be-headed-our-way" target="_blank" rel="noopener">free speech</a>, prosecuting people for obnoxious opinions about either immigrants or Muslims expressed online.
The most senior official in charge of public prosecutions in Britain declared that he has a team of “dedicated police officers scouring social media” to <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/uk-police-chief-suggests-he-would-arrest-americans-for-highlighting-british-riots-online" target="_blank" rel="noopener">arrest people</a> for posting things that are “insulting” or “abusive”. He even threatened to extradite people to the UK for sharing such material online.
All of this has helped contribute to the now widely held idea that Britain has a “two tier” criminal justice system.
Having cheerfully announced that they would be letting violent criminals out of prison after completing less than half their sentences a few weeks before, the authorities now threaten people with jail time for expressing idiotic views. In Cheshire, the police boasted of arresting a woman for what they called “an inaccurate social media post”.
In order to fully understand why Britain is in such a sorry state it is essential to appreciate what has gone wrong with the country’s judiciary.
Mass immigration has become an explosive issue in Britain because judges have routinely thwarted attempts by successive governments to control it. In 2010, 2015, 2017 and 2019, Brits voted repeatedly to end mass immigration. It has not happened because judges have systematically prevented elected governments from controlling the country’s borders.
British judges only ever seem to rule in favor of those who enter the country illegally being able to remain, ruling on the basis of what they think the law should be, not the laws Parliament has passed. 
  
Britain, a once orderly, high-trust society has become increasingly lawless because judges have routinely failed to apply sentences that ordinary Brits would regard as just. It is so commonplace for violent robbers and rapists to be given community sentences, rather than go to prison, it is seldom even reported anymore.
Why are British judges so awful? Because they are unaccountable to the public.
In Britain, judges are appointed, not elected. Until 2006, at least the appointments were made by an elected minister, meaning there was a degree of democratic oversight. 
  
Since 2006, Britain’s judges have been appointed by the Judicial Appointments Commission, a body obsessed about diversity, equity and inclusion, rather than justice. Thanks to Human Rights law, judges are not merely unaccountable. They regard judicial activism as part of their job.
Liberty and order in Britain are collapsing as a consequence.
At some point, we must all hope a new Margaret Thatcher emerges in Britain, someone with the vision and principle to save the country from decline. On its current trajectory, Britain is drifting towards the abyss of a sectarian society.
In 2001, there were one and a half million Muslims in Britain. Today there are 4 million. If even a small percentage of British Muslims adhere to the Islamist teachings of Sayyid Qutb, the Egyptian father of modern violent jihad, the country has a massive problem. Far from addressing the problem, right now Britain is a country that cannot even talk about the fact that it might have a problem.
Any new Thatcher must, as she did, address an underlying British economic malaise. Thanks to net zero energy policies, extraordinary restrictive regulations, high taxes and excessive public spending, the UK has had remarkably little per capita growth over the past decade.
But far more important than fixing the economy, Britain needs a state machinery capable of addressing issues of culture and cohesion. Old assumptions, and long established precedents governing citizenship, will need to change.
For that to happen, the next Thatcher needs to recognize that much of the machinery of the British state is dysfunctional. Reform is overdue.
Judges need to come under some sort of democratic oversight. Senior civil servants must no longer be afforded the luxury of deciding whether to implement policies that clash with their preferences. Those elected to Parliament, not unelected officials, need to be able to decide if the country can afford to cut taxes.
Britain can only be pulled back from the brink by a leader that recognizes that it is time to treat the judiciary and the administrative state as Thatcher once treated the trade unions.

While Americans lit up their skies on July 4 to celebrate independence from the British Parliament, many UK politicians wept upon realizing their own newfound independence — having lost their seats in the most disastrous election for Conservatives in decades.
Rishi Sunak’s famous gamble — calling an early election despite trailing in the polls — did not pay off. Fourteen years of what many regard as Tory failures on key issues could not be solved with a few weeks of campaign propaganda.

While inaction on illegal immigration played a central role in garnering frustrations among the base, social conservatives expressed bitter regret about a so-called “Conservative” government which has presided over a “woke” march through the institutions, a cultural war on the meaning of “woman,” a shut down on free speech, and some of the most poisonous, ideological school curriculums we’ve ever seen. With a new rival, Reform, offering a Right-wing alternative on the political stage, the Tories hemorrhaged votes from disappointed conservatives, splitting the Right of the political spectrum and handing victory to the Labour Party.
The post-match analysis has been muddled. <a href="https://www.miriamcates.org.uk/news/rebuilding-our-party#:~:text=The%20future%20for%20the%20Party,to%20win%20back%20our%20base." target="_blank" rel="noopener">Some</a> Conservatives have understood the need to roll back on “woke” and return to genuine conservative principles. Many others insist the solution is to become even more liberally milquetoast. 
Former Energy Minister <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2024/06/17/general-election-latest-news-sunak-starmer-farage-reform/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lord Callanan</a> has pushed for “a liberal, mainstream, centre-right Conservative Party that’s socially liberal but economically conservative.” 
Former MP <a href="https://x.com/RoryStewartUK/status/1808082855559323983" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rory Stewart</a> joined the chorus with an urgent party appeal to “move back to the center” and “reject the fantasies of the Faragist Right.” The best way to win back your losses, is of course, to insult and shun them. 
The schism of the British Right exposes a more universal friction in conservatism. Those who stand unified on economic approach — a low-tax, limited-interference government — are splintered into “conservative” and “progressive” camps on the social issues that hit society hardest. 
For social conservatives, strong family units and community structures enhance human flourishing. Social progressives, on the other hand — forming a new, “Godless” Right — abhor the “outdated” notion of a nuclear family, instead preferring to champion individual freedoms. In the UK, where the progressive side of the Tories has reigned, the government took a hammer to the societal institutions which have historically done the most to serve the vulnerable. The cost hasn’t only been mounting socially but economically too.

<h4>The Church</h4>
Historically, Christianity was responsible for hospitals, schools, and care for the poor. Even in modern times, where so much of this ground has been ceded to the State, the Church still offers a healing balm to our nation’s pandemic of loneliness. 1 in 3 UK <a href="https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/birthsdeathsandmarriages/families/bulletins/familiesandhouseholds/2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">households</a> are now single-occupant. Over half of those over50 experience <a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/health-fitness/wellbeing/mental-health/midlife-loneliness-over-50/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">loneliness</a> most of or all the time. Religious communities have so much to offer an atomized and purposeless generation. Yet the government has undermined Christianity time and again. The Tories dismissed the right to worship during the pandemic by keeping church doors closed for longer than necessary. And they installed a series of public order laws which demonized and criminalized Christian expression — including, famously, <a href="https://x.com/MrWinMarshall/status/1605985657997795328" target="_blank" rel="noopener">praying</a> in the privacy of one’s own mind. 
<h4>Marriage</h4>
Take another foundational social institution: marriage. According to the U.K.’s Office for National Statistics, getting married makes people happier with their lives than earning big salaries does, and married people report higher life satisfaction than singles or cohabiting couples. Children who live with married parents report better mental health. Fathers in the home are one of the strongest safeguards against adolescent poverty and crime. Women who are married are significantly less likely to be the victims of violent crime. Men who are married are less likely to perpetrate violent crimes.
Yet the past two decades of rule by social progressives has pulled the family structure apart. Nothing has been done to stall or reverse the plummeting marriage rate, with the tax system offering almost no benefit to those who wed. On the contrary, no-fault divorce was introduced under Tory rule. 
<h4>Parenthood</h4>
Parenthood has suffered too. While our birth rate plummets — now just 50% of what it was in the 1960s — the progressives have only worsened the decline, with maternity policies limited to pushing women back into the workplace as soon as possible after birth, rather than supporting and honoring mothers’ work in raising their children. Half of women now don’t have children before the age of 30 — some out of choice, yet many because today’s social circumstances simply don’t allow for it.
<h4>Mental Health</h4>
As marriage, faith and family crumble in neglect, the results are tragic. We are a nation battling the greatest mental health crisis in recorded history. More than <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2510371/Britains-130-000-absent-dads-One-fathers-lose-contact-children-earlier-relationships.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">130,000</a> British dads have no contact at all with their children, fueling poorer mental health among our next generation, and feeding into a growing gang culture. Our welfare structures groan under the weight of an aging population with no family around them. <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/die-alone-lonely-death-b2573819.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Last year</a>, 9,000 people were found at least a week after they’d died alone.
Where the Church and family support has been destroyed, the state has had to expand. The London School of Economics <a href="https://www.lse.ac.uk/News/Latest-news-from-LSE/2022/c-Mar-22/Mental-health-problems-cost-UK-economy-at-least-118-billion-a-year-new-research" target="_blank" rel="noopener">estimates</a> that our mental health crisis cost the UK economy at least £118 billion a year. 1 in 5 GP <a href="https://www.lbc.co.uk/news/one-in-five-gp-appointments-non-medical/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">appointments</a> are now taken up by people who are lonely, or are seeking life advice. As crime soars due to fatherlessness, state-funded social workers, police officers, prison services and more are in high demand. The list goes on.
Attempting to appeal to progressive fads has seen the Tories compromise on basic principles throughout their recent time in power. The social arguments against “woke” have not been enough to persuade them otherwise. But the economic arguments are stark — and so are the latest election results. 
Now is the time to get back to basics. A Conservative party which supports faith, family and community has a future. A country which lacks these structures does not.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/pink">Pink</a> definitely got everyone’s attention on Tuesday when she announced she would be canceling one of her European concerts just a few weeks into her Summer 2024 Carnival Tour.
In a post on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C868t8JNA_k/?igsh=MWQ1ZGUxMzBkMA%3D%3D" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Instagram</a>, the 44-year-old pop singer-born Alecia Moore-shared a black-and-white photo from one of her concerts and wrote about how sorry she was that she had to cancel her show in Bern on Wednesday as part of her tour at stadiums across the U.K. and Europe.
“I do everything I can to ensure I can perform for you every night, but after consultation with my doctor and exploring all options available, I’ve been advised that I’m unable to continue with the show tomorrow,” Pink wrote.
“I was looking forward to being with you and making memories with you and sharing our show with you and am so disappointed that we have to cancel,” she added. “All tickets will be refunded; please visit @takk_ab_entertainment for more information.”
She closed out her post, saying, “Sending love and health to you all, and I really hope to see you again soon. P!nk xoxo.”
The cancellation of the show comes after the “Raise Your Glass” hitmaker kicked off her <a href="https://www.thepinknews.com/2024/06/12/pink-setlist-2024-tour-dates/">summer concert tour</a> on June 11 in Cardiff and had only performed 9 shows.

On Monday, the “So What” hitmaker made headlines when she announced that her daughter, Willow, was leaving the tour to pursue her own dreams of acting, as captured in a <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@pinkofficial/video/7385639058795416862?_r=1&amp;_t=8nbnPY2Z5ZK">TikTok video</a>.
“All right &#8230; I want you to tell me all the things, OK? You’re leaving me,” Pink told her teen daughter Willow. “Why would you ever do that?”
<a href="https://www.today.com/parents/moms/pink-willow-leaving-tour-rcna159839" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Willow replied</a>, “Bye Bye Birdie,” naming the popular 1963 musical.
“All right, so theater. So you fell in love with ‘Mamma Mia.’” Pink responded, noting that after seeing her daughter perform in the musical, she had never seen her &#8220;so big and like, your energy was six times your body. It was amazing. I was blown away.”
“OK. You have your own lane and you want to be in it,” she added. “And I love that for you. And I will tell you that in this last recital, I saw a version of you that I didn’t know existed and it is really wild to watch you grow up and grow out of me.”

Pink Cancels Concert Weeks Into Summer Tour

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/russia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Russia</a> has overtaken the United States as the top exporter of natural gas to Europe despite the continent trying to break its reliance on Russian energy in response to Russia&#8217;s war in Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin cut his country&#8217;s supply of gas to Europe following his invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 and the continent responded by importing liquified natural gas (LNG) from the U.S.
&#8220;The US overtook Russia as a supplier of gas to Europe in September 2022, and has since 2023 accounted for about a fifth of the region’s supply,&#8221; The Financial Times <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/15e7b892-c4f3-45b8-b375-80ef52e4b83c" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. &#8220;But last month, Russian-piped gas and LNG shipments accounted for 15 per cent of total supply to the EU, UK, Switzerland, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and North Macedonia, according to data from ICIS.&#8221;
U.S. shipments of natural gas to Europe have since fallen to 14% of the region&#8217;s supply, the report said, which comes despite efforts from several European nations to sanction Russian energy, which would reduce Russia&#8217;s ability to continue funding its war through energy sales.
Experts claimed to the newspaper that &#8220;one-off factors drove the reversal,&#8221; including an outage at a major U.S. natural gas export facility.
However, the outage comes after President Joe Biden halted issuing new licenses for natural gas exporters, which has forced companies to delay signing new contracts with U.S. energy producers, Bloomberg News <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-03-15/biden-s-lng-freeze-delaying-projects-and-risking-us-market-share?embedded-checkout=true" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
Rep. Stephanie Bice (R-OK) responded to the development by telling The Daily Wire in a statement: &#8220;The Biden Administration’s decision to pause approvals for new LNG export terminals has once again forced Europe into the pockets of Putin.&#8221;
&#8220;His decisions not only counter his climate goals, since Russian natural gas is 41% dirtier than American, but harms our domestic producers,&#8221; she added. &#8220;When it comes to Russia, Biden talks the talk, but his actions are doing nothing but supporting Putin.&#8221;
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) also responded to the news during the most recent episode of his &#8220;Verdict&#8221; podcast this week, saying that Biden and the Democrats &#8220;are united in favor of this policy.&#8221;

&#8220;They are helping Russia. They are hurting our allies, they are hurting Europe, and they&#8217;re hurting jobs in Texas, and hurting jobs in America,&#8221; he said, later adding: “Joe Biden and the Democrats have this incoherent view that they hate oil and gas produced in America, which, by the way, produces jobs, raises wages here in the United States, but they seemingly love oil and gas produced by our enemies. The following is an edited transcript of a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/podcasts/morning-wire/hunter-biden-jury-deliberates-europe-turns-right-6-11-24" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Morning Wire interview</a> between Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley and Nile Gardiner from The Heritage Foundation.
Conservative and populist parties in several European countries made major gains in European Parliamentary elections Sunday, shaking up several regimes and prompting calls for snap elections. Nile Gardiner, Director of the Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom at The Heritage Foundation, joined Daily Wire editor-in-chief John Bickley to discuss what is driving Europe to the Right.
JOHN: Welcome, Nile. First, what has unfolded since Sunday?
NILE: Well, I think the results released on Sunday night are nothing less than a political earthquake in Europe. We have seen an emphatic rejection of socialist ruling elites across much of Europe. We have seen a resounding set of victories for parties on the Right in many European countries. And we&#8217;ve seen the utter humiliation of big European figures, such as Emmanuel Macron, president of France, Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, and huge gains for conservative political parties.
JOHN: Who are some of the big names and parties emerging in this sort of rise of the Right?
NILE: The biggest winner, actually, from these European elections has been Georgia Meloni in Italy, whose Brothers of Italy party did extremely well in the European elections, quadrupling their level of support. Meloni has emerged as a very, very powerful leader in Europe. In France, of course, with Marine Le Pen, her political party took over 30% percent of the vote — double the size of the vote for Emmanuel Macron&#8217;s party. She will likely face off against Macron in the French presidential race in 2027. And if that election were to be held today, she would probably emerge as the winner.

JOHN: Now, we saw a snap election called by Macron. What prompted it and how risky is this for the French president and his party? 
NILE: In France, Macron&#8217;s political party received only around 15% of the vote in the European Parliamentary elections. A massive humiliation really for Macron&#8217;s ruling party. Macron therefore decided to call a snap Parliamentary election. It will be held in two rounds, late June, early July. And these elections actually could go very badly potentially for the French president. And he could end up as a lame duck president for the remainder of his term, which stretches until 2027, if his party doesn&#8217;t do well in these Parliamentary elections. So, a high-risk gambit, of course, by Macron. In the UK, the British Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, called an early general election to be held on July the 4th. The conservatives are trailing the opposition Labour Party very heavily in the polls, also, of course, this is a high-risk move by Sunak. He&#8217;s come under a lot of criticism for calling this early election and the UK is one of the only parts in Europe where conservatives are actually in real trouble. That&#8217;s probably largely the result of having been in power for 14 years and failing to deliver on a lot of the promises made by successive conservative governments. So a rather different situation in the UK compared to most of the rest of Europe, where we are seeing conservative parties really gaining a great deal of ground. The UK is a bit of an outlier in this area compared to the rest of Europe.

JOHN: Would you argue that a lot of the dissatisfaction is coming from the Right in the UK?
NILE: Yes, I think that a large part of the dissatisfaction with Rishi Sunak is that he&#8217;s not being conservative enough as prime minister. And so we&#8217;ve seen the rise of Reform, a party headed by Nigel Farage. Reform is now polling at around 15 to even 20% of the vote. These are largely conservative voters who have switched to Reform, so the ruling conservatives actually face a major challenge from Reform on the Right. Of course, the biggest challenge is from the Labor Party on the Left, but the Right in the UK is split right down the middle, and that will be a big factor in most likely allowing the socialists to take power on July the 4th.
JOHN: And what about in Germany? What are some of the trends we&#8217;re seeing there and some of the figures that are starting to define those trends?
NILE: In Germany, it&#8217;s significant that the ruling socialists headed by Olaf Scholz have done very badly. They pulled in only around 14% of the vote. Also, the Green Party did very, very badly. They&#8217;re the main allies of the socialists. They pulled in around 12% of the vote. On the Right, the Christian Democrats did very well, winning nearly a third of the vote. But the AFD political party, which in Germany is designated as hard-Right, they actually pulled in close to around 20% of the European vote, which was a big result for them. Now, I would say that the AFD are quite different from many of the other sort of Right-wing parties in Europe, and they&#8217;re somewhat isolated from the main political groupings in the European Parliament. Significantly, Marine Le Pen actually removed the AFD from her political grouping, the Identity and Democracy group within the European Parliament. So there are big differences among parties on the Right within Europe. But undoubtedly, the reality in Germany is that it is moving Right-wards. The Left is actually losing very heavily in Germany and I would expect to see next year with the national elections in Germany a conservative Christian Democratic Union-led government to take power. It&#8217;s hard to see how the socialists are going to survive with the national elections in Germany next year. There&#8217;s too much power in Brussels. And so most of the political parties on the Right that were successful in this election campaigned against the idea of Euro-federalism and against giving the EU, and the European Commission in particular, more power. We saw the sort of “Brexit Effect” in a big way in this European Parliamentary election.

JOHN: Speaking of Brexit, as you mentioned, Nigel Farage, the architect of Brexit and a pro-Trump ally, has decided to run for Parliament under the Reform Party. How will his entrance into the political arena affect the race?
NILE: Yes, as you point out, Nigel Farage jumped into the race as the leader of the Reform Party just last week. I think it&#8217;s a significant game changer in the sense that Farage is joining the race, heading the Reform political party and encouraging many more conservative voters to switch to Reform. No doubt about it, the conservatives are going to lose a lot more seats as a result of Farage&#8217;s decision here. I think also, secondly, Nigel Farage has a good chance of winning a parliamentary seat. He&#8217;s running in the constituency of Clacton, which is a strongly Euro-skeptic, pro-Brexit area. And if Farage ends up in Parliament, I think he&#8217;ll be a very important, influential figure. What this doesn&#8217;t change, though, in terms of the big picture, is the fact that Reform, even with 15 to 20% of the vote, will likely end up only with a few seats in Parliament because of the “First-past-the-post” political system. And so the conservatives will remain the biggest party on the Right in the UK in terms of parliamentary seats, regardless of how well Reform actually performs in terms of percentage of the vote, because Reform simply doesn&#8217;t have enough firepower to win a large number of MPs under the parliamentary system. So, I expect that Reform, if they do get a few MPs in Parliament, will be closely aligned with the conservatives in terms of how they vote in the next Parliament.

JOHN: While the Right-leaning parties aren’t uniform, there are a lot of unifying characteristics of most of these parties. What would you say are some of the shared ideas and policies driving them?
NILE: Yes, that&#8217;s a very good question. I would say that the number one issue in the European Parliamentary elections was really the issue of mass migration, cultural identity – a fear among many in Europe that Europe is taking in far too many migrants — and has taken in too many migrants over the course of the last two decades. This election was a fundamental rejection of mass migration to open borders. So, all of the parties on the Right who gained heavily campaigned on a platform of secure borders, limiting the flow of migrants into their countries, cracking down on migrant crime, and also fighting against Islamification in Europe. Also, high on the agenda are environmental issues as well as a rejection of net zero ideology. Nearly all of the political parties on the Right that won big in the European Parliamentary elections fought against what they believed as far-Left ideological dogma dictating hugely expensive green policies. A third factor was rising Euro-skepticism and a belief among many in Europe that the European Union has become too centralized. And so most of the political parties on the Right that were successful in this election campaigned against the idea of Euro-federalism and against giving the EU and the European Commission in particular more power.
JOHN: Final question. What aspect of these trends in Europe do you feel are important for an American audience to understand?
NILE: From a U. S. perspective, I think the European election results are going to make the Biden White House very nervous. Because some of the big issues that successful parties on the Right in Europe campaigned on are the same issues that American voters are going to be voting on in November. And the European electorate emphatically rejected the kind of woke, Left-wing, elitism that has dominated Europe in recent decades. And many American voters share European voters’ concerns over mass migration, open borders, rising crime, and higher cost of living. So, what happens in Europe, I think is important to what happens in the U.S. as well.

Media organizations smeared right-wing parties in Europe over the weekend after they gained serious traction in elections across the continent as backlash grows to the political Left&#8217;s radical climate agenda, inflation, and the millions of migrants that have come from the Middle East and Africa.
News organizations, from The New York Times to Reuters to the Associated Press, labeled right-wing parties as &#8220;far-right,&#8221; &#8220;extreme right,&#8221; and &#8220;radical right.&#8221; Meanwhile, left-wing socialist parties were simply labeled as &#8220;center-left&#8221; and &#8220;pro-democracy&#8221; parties.

French President Emmanuel Macron was crushed by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally, which is set to become the country&#8217;s largest political party.
“The rise of nationalists and demagogues is a danger for our nation and for Europe,” Macron said. “After this day, I cannot go on as though nothing has happened.”
In Germany, the country&#8217;s center-right was leading but the second strongest showing came from the country&#8217;s Alternative for Germany, which media organizations claimed was an &#8220;extreme right&#8221; party.
Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s right-wing Brothers of Italy party also made significant gains in Italy.
Europe&#8217;s Green parties and globalist left-wing parties suffered the largest losses in the European Union&#8217;s Parliamentary elections.
POLITICO noted that if hard-right parties formed a single group, they would be the second most powerful force in the E.U.&#8217;s parliament behind the center-right European People’s Party.

In previous elections, radical right parties talked of leaving the European Union or its single currency, echoing the calls of British Brexiteers. Now these parties want to influence it from within.&#8221;</li>
<li><a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/10/briefing/france-election-israel-resign.html">The New York Times</a>: &#8220;The outcome has unsettled the bloc’s mainstream establishment and seems likely to steel the far-right as a disruptive force.&#8221;</li>

Across the continent, and especially in some of its biggest countries, far-right parties produced strong or record results.&#8221;</li>

Many of these trends reflect political winds in the U.S., where voters overwhelmingly disapprove of the job that President Joe Biden is doing, especially after millions of illegals have stormed into the U.S., energy prices have skyrocketed, and inflation has wreaked havoc on families. Presumed Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump remains polling ahead of Biden — despite a recent felony conviction, which may be overturned — and has made serious inroads with young voters and minority communities.

One of the most popular books in the 1980s was the satire “Real Men Don’t Eat Quiche.” It was a tongue-in-cheek homage to what even then was a perceived fading masculinity starting to infect our broader society.
One of the chapters listed “Historic dates in Real Man history.” Of June 6, 1944, better known as D-Day, it states: “150,000 Real Men storm Normandy beach.” In a way, I could end this piece right there, as I cannot offer a more fitting tribute to what occurred on those hallowed beaches 80 years ago today. But I will try. Because as the years pass, and the Greatest Generation fades to the point where soon they will be gone, this monumental event in the annals of war offers us both a remembrance of what was, and reflection of what we as a nation have become.
First, for those who do not know what D-Day even was (and I fear there are too many out there), a quick overview. By the spring of 1944, the war against Nazi Germany and her Axis partners had turned in the Allies’ favor. A Wehrmacht that once seemed invincible had been driven from Russia, wherein almost eight out of every ten German casualties during the war were inflicted.
Meanwhile, the Western Allies of primarily the U.S. and Britain were slowly but inexorably eating away at the periphery of Hitler’s shrinking empire while inflicting on the Axis defeat after defeat in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. At the same time United States Army Air Forces and RAF bombing raids were laying waste to German industry and cities. The walls were indeed closing in on the Third Reich.
But…so long as Hitler held on to Western Europe, with the English Channel between his armies and the Allied bases in Great Britain, the war&#8217;s ultimate outcome was hardly a fait accompli. What was needed to offer the coup de grâce was a cross-channel invasion. Although only 21 miles wide at its narrowest point, the English Channel was nevertheless a formidable barrier. And even though by mid-1944 the Wehrmacht had suffered horrible losses, it was far from defeated. Thus the necessity to open a second front.
The prospects facing Allied planners were daunting. From the North Sea to the Pyrenees, the Germans, under their most revered field marshal, Erwin Rommel, had constructed a series of fortresses and bunkers, machine gun nests, pillboxes, artillery positions, concertinas of barbed wire, mines, obstacles and the like all with one goal: to prevent the Allies from getting across the channel and gaining a foothold in France from which to, as per the JCS directive to the Allied Supreme Commander Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower: “Enter the continent of Europe and, in conjunction with other United Nations, commence operations aimed at the heart of Germany and the destruction of her armed forces.” Indeed, some of Germany’s most powerful formations, including several of the brutally efficient and battle-tested SS-Panzer divisions, lay in wait behind what Hitler dubbed his “Atlantic Wall.” 
Operation Overlord, the codeword for the overall Normandy campaign, would be the most complex military endeavor ever attempted, the planning of which was two years in the making. While Allied agents and codebreakers worked diligently to deceive Hitler into believing the inevitable landings were to take place at Calais, the closest point to the British Isles and thus most logical target, plans were underway to eventually land on the Normandy beaches roughly 133,000 troops on day one while some 7,000 ships of all types provided transport, logistical support and shore bombardment. Clouds of Allied warplanes would fill the skies either covering the landings or raiding enemy positions and transportation centers inland, prompting the confident Eisenhower to assure his landing force: “If you see fighter aircraft over you, they will be ours.” Three airborne divisions, two U.S. and one British, would drop into occupied France the night before the landings to seize key objectives and sow chaos in the German rear. The risks were so great that Eisenhower carried in his pocket a note to be read to the public should the invaders be driven back into the sea, and the paratroopers left stranded behind the lines to be systematically wiped out by a German army that showed itself very adept at quick recovery and organizing crushing counterattacks.
As D-Day approached, hundreds of thousands of soldiers, sailors, and airmen were locked down on the southern coast of England under strict security while growing ever more anxious—the landings were already postponed a day due to inclement weather—while they contemplated the violence and lethal danger that awaited them across the water. And the Germans, expecting an invasion at some point, stood by their guns, waiting.
When in the pre-dawn light of June 6 the massive Allied flotilla appeared over the horizon and began to spread out before the flabbergasted Germans—not at Calais but 200 miles farther south at Normandy—and the big guns of escorting battlewagons opened up on them in preparation for the amphibious assault to come, what would be known as “The Longest Day” commenced.
Five beaches were targeted for invasion: Gold and Sword for the British, Juno for the Canadians, and Utah and Omaha for the Americans. Due to the brilliant stratagems of Allied intelligence, Hitler was indeed fooled. As such, he stubbornly refused to release his powerful armored columns, keeping them idle in the rear ready to move on to Calais where he expected to fight a battle that never came. By the time the Führer realized his catastrophic error, it was too late.
Each landing zone was contested to some degree, but if there was one beach where the Germans came the closest to carrying out Rommel’s orders to throw the Allies back into the water, it was on Omaha. Here the Americans landed into a buzzsaw of bullets sweeping the exposed beach while pre-sited artillery and mortars rained down on them. It was in fact touch-and-go for several hours, and evacuation was even considered. But the U.S. troops who made it to shore — an army of citizen-soldiers who nevertheless performed acts of courage and elan so astounding they’d have given the ancient Spartans reason to smile — persevered, and despite suffering horrific losses carried the day. 
Though the combat on that first day was severe and bloody, and some 10,000 of the attackers were casualties including 4,400 KIA, the Allies managed to get that coveted foothold on the continent into which would pour an endless stream of reinforcements and supplies as the beachhead expanded into the Normandy countryside. The subsequent fighting, in hedgerow terrain ideal for defense, would be prolonged, costly, and brutal. But once established on French soil, the Allies were there to stay. Ten months later, U.S. and Russian troops met at the Elbe River, and the six-year nightmare that was the war in Europe was over…and, at least for Western Europe, freedom and civil liberties were restored to a long-suffering people.
Beyond destroying Hitler’s Third Reich, by landing in France and moving eastward through the Low Countries and into Germany itself, the Western Allies&#8217; presence on the continent which D-Day made possible prevented the spread of Stalinist butchery farther west into Europe, protecting generations from virtual enslavement under the jackboot of the hammer and sickle. It was a good day for freedom all around.
If this all seems like a long time ago it was. And not just in terms of calendar years. Since the end of World War II, with the exception of Korea, the U.S., though engaged in too many wars to count from massive undertakings in Southeast Asia to proxy wars such as Ukraine today, has never again held the undisputed moral high ground it did on that terrible yet magnificent June day in 1944. World War II has often been called “the last good war” and, though a simplistic moniker, it was as close to one as we ever fought since the war that emancipated our fellow Americans, coincidentally enough, 80 years prior on our own soil.
Sadly, one cannot help but think the goodwill and moral capital we so justifiably earned on this day of days and many others throughout that awful calamity that was the Second World War has been squandered, one ill-fated, ill-conceived act of military adventurism at a time. One can say that the advent of the American Empire could be traced to the sands of Normandy. And, as with all empires, we are destined to fall. We are, in fact, seeing the classic signs of decline today. Among them are the over-expansion of a nation’s military far beyond its own borders; we currently have nearly 800 bases in over 70 countries. Another is an insurmountable national debt; debt service is now eclipsing military spending. Another still is decadence at home; I&#8217;ll let you ponder this while the next &#8220;Drag Queen Story Hour&#8221; comes to your schools.
One must wonder, then, if any of the remaining D-Day veterans might take the measure of the country they were once willing to die for and find today&#8217;s America worth storming another Normandy Beach to preserve. I wonder.
What we do know, however, with absolute certainty is that a lot of real men did do incredible things on this day 80 years ago. They did it not for conquest, treasure, or vendetta, but rather to liberate a people they never knew, in countries they’d only heard about, from an oppressive force so evil it had to be destroyed. They met the challenge. And so we salute them all.

Argentina President <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/javier-milei" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Javier Milei</a> riled the far-Left in Spain late this week while he visited the country and slammed their political ideology as cancerous and evil.
During his first speech in the country on Friday, the right-wing libertarian political leader and economist <a href="https://www.barrons.com/news/spain-deputy-pm-accuses-milei-of-sowing-hatred-1a41d091" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a>: &#8220;Let us not let the dark, black, satanic, atrocious, horrible carcinogenic side that is socialism prevail over us.&#8221;
Far-left Spanish Labour Minister Yolanda Diaz, who is also a deputy prime minister, had accused Milei of spreading &#8220;hate&#8221; with his freedom-loving ideas.
&#8220;There aren&#8217;t many who sow hate, but they make a lot of noise and flood everything,&#8221; said Diaz. &#8220;Milei and other governments of hate are back with their austerity measures and authoritarianism.&#8221;
Milei said that his policies were putting his country back on track after being on &#8220;a decline of more than 100 years&#8221;.
Milei has made major cuts to the country&#8217;s spending and cut the size of its government, along with other measures, which have resulted in its inflation rate plummeting and the government recording surpluses for the first time in nearly two decades.

Prior to his visit to Spain, Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente insulted Milei, claiming that he was using drugs.
Milei&#8217;s office responded to &#8220;the slander and insults&#8221; from Puente by slamming the government of socialist Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, saying that it had &#8220;more important problems than what to deal with, such as the accusations of corruption that fall on his wife, an issue that even led him to evaluate his resignation.&#8221;
&#8220;For the good of the Kingdom of Spain, we hope that justice acts quickly to clarify such a corruption scandal that directly affects stability of his Nation and, consequently, the relations with our country,&#8221; the statement said.
The statement slammed the socialist government for putting women at risk by allowing hoards of illegal immigrants in and endangering the middle class with socialist policies that &#8220;only bring poverty and death.&#8221;

Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia is expected to survive after he was shot five times in a <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/slovakias-prime-minister-wounded-in-shooting" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspected assassination attempt</a> and underwent emergency surgery on Wednesday.
Fico, a 59-year-old Left-wing populist who was elected prime minister last year, was targeted in what Slovak officials described as a &#8220;politically motivated&#8221; attack after a government meeting in Handlova, CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/15/europe/slovakia-prime-minister-fico-shooting-intl/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>. The suspected gunman was among a small crowd of people waiting to greet the prime minister and fired at Fico from close range. Deputy Prime Minister Tomáš Taraba <a href="https://www.cnn.com/europe/live-news/robert-fico-slovakia-prime-minister-shooting-05-15-24/h_afa2aee31724320e229f78cd0605d736" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> BBC that Fico &#8220;was heavily injured&#8221; by a bullet that “went through the stomach&#8221; and then another bullet that &#8220;hit the joints.”
“Fortunately, as far as I know, the operation went well and I guess in the end he will survive,&#8221; Taraba added.
Video of the attack showed the moment the suspect opened fire on Fico from behind a barrier as the prime minister was walking toward a group of supporters. The alleged gunman was arrested and identified by <a href="https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13423199/slovakia-prime-minister-robert-fico-shot-suspect-son.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">multiple</a> media <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/slovakia-robert-fico-prime-minister-shooting-latest-updates-b2545976.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">outlets</a> as 71-year-old Juraj Cintula, a leftist writer and activist who founded an &#8220;anti-violence&#8221; movement in 2015. Authorities have <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-69019121" target="_blank" rel="noopener">not yet confirmed</a> the identity of the suspect.

Fico has been criticized by his opponents as being a Kremlin sympathizer. The prime minister, who is the most powerful lawmaker in Slovakia, won his election last October on a campaign that criticized the country&#8217;s aid to Ukraine throughout the Russia-Ukraine war. Fico kept his campaign promise and announced shortly after becoming prime minister that Slovakia would end its military aid for Ukraine while maintaining humanitarian assistance for its European neighbor.
Fico previously served as prime minister from 2006 to 2010 and then again from 2012 to 2018 before he resigned amid a corruption scandal after the murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée, Martina Kušnírová. Kuciak focused much of his reporting on Slovakia&#8217;s political elite, CNN reported.
The assassination attempt on Fico shocked leaders in Slovakia and around the world. Slovak President Zuzana Caputova said she was &#8220;utterly shocked&#8221; by the attack and condemned it &#8220;in strongest possible terms.&#8221;
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban added, “I was deeply shocked by the heinous attack against my friend, Prime Minister Robert Fico. We pray for his health and quick recovery! God bless him and his country!”

Jill and I are praying for a swift recovery, and our thoughts are with his family and the people of Slovakia. We condemn this horrific act of violence. Our embassy is in close touch with the government of Slovakia and ready to assist.&#8221;

A shooting in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/slovakia" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Slovakia</a> left the central European country&#8217;s populist prime minister, Robert Fico, wounded on Wednesday, according to multiple reports.
The BBC <a href="https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cg6761ggxz1o" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> that Fico, 59, was in life-threatening condition and taken to a hospital after being attacked outside a community center in the town of Handlova while meeting with supporters.
&#8220;Utterly shocked by today&#8217;s brutal attack on #Slovakia’s Prime Minister Robert Fico, which I condemn in strongest possible terms,&#8221; Slovak President Zuzana Caputova <a href="https://twitter.com/ZuzanaCaputova/status/1790742825732092015" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> in a post to X.
&#8220;I wish him lot of strength in this critical moment and early recovery,&#8221; she added. &#8220;My thoughts are also with his family and close ones.&#8221;
According to <a href="https://apnews.com/article/slovakia-prime-minister-shooting-robert-fico-handlova-bdaaf0bba01035a700145a67d871a482" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Associated Press</a>, a TV station in Slovakia said a suspect had been detained. The suspect&#8217;s identity was not immediately known.
Video posted to social media appeared to show the moment security guards frantically moved Fico into a car after the shooting.

After resigning as prime minister in 2018 amid a murder and corruption scandal, Fico returned to power last fall when his Smer party <a href="https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/09/30/slovakia-election-results-fico-simecka/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bested</a> the liberal Progressive Slovakia party in a parliamentary election and formed a coalition government.
Making good on promises made during his campaign, Fico <a href="https://www.barrons.com/news/slovakia-announces-halt-of-military-aid-to-ukraine-02568de7#" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> in October that Slovakia would stop sending military aid to its neighbor, Ukraine, but continue humanitarian assistance.
Leaders across Europe responded to the shooting on Wednesday, including European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
