The Justice Department sued California on Thursday over the state’s strict emissions regulations imposed on heavy-duty trucks. 
The department challenged the California Air Resources Board (CARB) over its “Clean Truck Partnership” that pushes truck manufacturers to phase out internal-combustion engines in favor of “zero emission” engines by 2036. Two separate challenges were filed: One to heavy-duty truck restrictions and another to the guidelines for light-duty vehicles.  

“Agreement, contract, partnership, mandate — whatever California wants to call it, this unlawful action attempts to undermine federal law,” <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/justice-department-sues-california-end-enforcement-unlawful-emissions-standards-trucks">said</a> Acting Assistant Attorney General Adam Gustafson of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division. “President Donald Trump and Congress have invalidated the Clean Air Act waivers that were the basis for California’s actions. CARB must respect the democratic process and stop enforcing unlawful standards.”
The DOJ is joining a lawsuit brought by several truck manufacturers, including Daimler and Volvo, challenging California over its strident emissions standards. 
In its filings, the Justice Department argued that California was illegally trying to supersede federal environmental regulations. California first received approvals from the Biden administration to impose harsher emission standards. 
President Donald Trump signed congressional resolutions in June 2025 invalidating the waivers granted by the Biden administration. 
“Without these waivers, the Clean Air Act prohibits [the California Air Resources Board] from attempting to enforce those regulations,” the Justice Department said. “Yet, in an affront to the rule of law, [the California Air Resources Board] seeks to circumvent that prohibition by enforcing the preempted emissions standards through the Clean Truck Partnership.”

The Justice Department <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/media/1411296/dl?inline">argued</a> that California was effectively attempting to “impose a nationwide ban on internal-combustion engines in heavy-duty trucks by 2036” through the regulations promulgated through the “Clean Truck Partnership.” 
“The decision whether to ban internal-combustion engines in heavy-duty trucks rests ultimately with the federal government. And it has declined to take such a far-reaching step,” the suit said. “CARB continues to threaten truck manufacturers who refuse to comply with its preempted regulations with severe civil sanctions and hostile regulatory treatment.”

A left-wing organization is pumping money into an effort to kill legislation that would prevent banks from denying loans to farmers based on political considerations. The organization, The Daily Wire has learned, has ties to a deeper network of far-left groups, including one that appears to be flush with foreign money.
Unlocking America’s Future is <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ads/library/?active_status=all&amp;ad_type=all&amp;country=US&amp;is_targeted_country=false&amp;media_type=all&amp;search_type=page&amp;view_all_page_id=163734473485371">running ads</a> on Facebook targeting North Carolina and opposing legislation that would <a href="https://www.carolinajournal.com/house-agriculture-committee-approves-anti-esg-farmers-protection-act/">prevent</a> banks from denying loans to farmers based on controversial environmental, social, and governance (ESG) metrics. The group has spent just shy of $30,000 on Facebook ads from early July to early August.
The legislation, its Republican sponsors say, would prevent farmers from being compelled to go along with a political agenda and ensure that lending remains “based upon whether they have good credit or not but not based upon their ESG score.”
But Unlocking America’s future is just a trade name used by an organization set up by established left-wing organizations to bolster Biden in the 2020 election.
Unlocking America’s Future, <a href="https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_dc/EXTUID_4337124">according</a> to a non-profit database and the Washington, D.C., corporate registry, is a trade name used by Climate Power. This left-wing organization was created in the lead-up to the 2020 election as a <a href="https://www.eenews.net/articles/this-climate-group-has-80m-to-help-biden/">joint project</a> of the Sierra Club, the American Progress Action Fund, and the League of Conservation Voters. The group came on the scene with $80 million ready to deploy in an effort to boost then-candidate Joe Biden.
Under the name “Unlocking America’s Future,” the organization has launched an ad campaign opposing the Farmers Protection Act, targeting Raleigh and other areas with paid ads calling on several state representatives and Governor Josh Stein to reject the proposal.
“Billionaires want to force banks to ignore financial risks, putting North Carolina’s economic future at risk,” read the paid Facebook ads, which began in late May and have continued into August. “Stand up for North Carolina’s economic future by focusing on responsible investing, lowering costs, and creating jobs.”
While the ads grandstand against “billionaires” attempting to exert influence on North Carolina’s politics, the organization has ties to a network of left-wing activist groups tied to a Swiss billionaire.
Climate Power is a project of the Fund for a Better Future, which has been <a href="https://apnews.com/article/dark-money-democrats-wyss-politics-elections-601d40cd01569190559d545418afe396">scrutinized</a> as a vehicle that’s allowed foreign money to flood into American politics through issue-advocacy groups, allowing foreigners to exert influence on America’s politics despite a prohibition on foreign donors directly bankrolling candidates for public office.
Swiss billionaire and prominent left-wing donor Hansjörg Wyss was a <a href="https://apnews.com/article/dark-money-democrats-wyss-politics-elections-601d40cd01569190559d545418afe396">major backer</a> of the Fund for a Better Future, the Associated Press reported as Climate Power sought to boost Biden’s legislative agenda and support Democratic congressional candidates.

Climate Power has also pushed the diversity, equity, and inclusion agenda, at least internally, according to organization documentation. The organization’s 2023 registration form reveals that the group employed racially discriminatory practices when selecting board members.
“The makeup of the board shall be reflective of the diversity of the progress movement and the corporation staff,” the document reads. “The board should not be less than approximately 40% Board members who identify as Black, Indigenous, or People of Color and 51% of Board members who identify as women.”
“The corporation shall use best efforts to ensure that the diversity of the Board is no lesser than the diversity of staff.” it goes on to add.
Climate Power did not respond to a request for comment.

Climate activists vandalized the iconic Wall Street Bull with green graffiti declaring &#8220;Greed = Death,” but quickly scrubbed it clean before police officers arrived at the scene.
Members of the environmental activist group Extinction Rebellion defaced the bronze statue early Monday during an Earth Day demonstration, the New York Post <a href="https://nypost.com/2025/04/22/us-news/wall-street-bull-painted-over-by-environmental-activists-who-cleaned-up-when-cops-came/">reported</a>.
The vandals spray-painted their organization&#8217;s symbol alongside the anti-capitalist messaging on the bull while hysterically reciting climate alarmist slogans.
The activists also attempted to create an image of the bull defecating on a cutout of Earth by hanging debris-filled brown stockings near the rear of the statue.

The group took credit for the act on X, <a href="https://x.com/XR_NYC/status/1914703015270879295">writing</a>, “Good morning from the resistance. We came to Wall Street to call out the bullshit. Bullshit told by the 1% who gamble with our futures. Bullshit to bailouts for those who wrecked our economy. #GreedIsDeath #ActNow.”
“We spoke the truth, we called them out — and the city&#8217;s elite laughed. But the joke isn’t so funny now, when it’s their stocks and wealth getting screwed.”
After one cop <a href="https://www.nydailynews.com/2025/04/22/earth-day-activists-deface-wall-st-charging-bull-then-clean-it-up/">ordered</a> an activist sitting on the bull&#8217;s neck to dismount, the activists seemed to panic, hastily scrubbing away their graffiti before more police officers even approached the scene, according to the New York Daily News.

As more cops arrived on the scene, they casually watched as the activists finished cleaning their graffiti off the bull, making no immediate arrests.
The 7,100-pound Wall Street Bull, installed in 1989, has long been a symbol of American financial prosperity and a frequent target for anti-capitalist protesters.
The bull has repeatedly been targeted by left-wing protesters, who see the statue as a symbol of corporate “greed” and the evils of capitalism.

Today is Earth Day, a good time to remember that the guy who claimed to have founded this &#8220;peace and love&#8221; environmental celebration was a convicted murderer.
Ira Einhorn was a tie-dye-wearing, long-bearded hippie &#8220;guru&#8221; in Philadelphia who originally <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna42711922#.WPudZ4jytPY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">became</a> known for his environmental activism in the 1960s and &#8217;70s.
Today, he&#8217;s better known for killing his girlfriend and stuffing her body in a trunk.
A famous <a href="https://time.com/5242190/earth-day-founder/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">photo</a> shows Einhorn flashing a peace sign on stage at the first Earth Day in Philadelphia on April 22, 1970, and he later claimed that Earth Day was his idea.

He became popular with ecological groups during the counterculture movement of the &#8217;60s and protested the Vietnam War. He was a teacher at Temple University, but his contract was not renewed after he <a href="https://books.google.com/books?id=YEVIDQAAQBAJ&amp;q=temple#v=snippet&amp;q=temple&amp;f=false" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> he offered students &#8220;straight answers about the delights and dangers&#8221; of cannabis and LSD. Their parents were definitely thrilled.

He nicknamed himself &#8220;Unicorn&#8221; because his last name translates to &#8220;one horn.&#8221; Later, he became known as the &#8220;Unicorn Killer.&#8221;
In 1977, Einhorn&#8217;s girlfriend of five years, Holly Maddux, broke up with him and moved to New York City. In September, she returned to their Philadelphia apartment to get her belongings, which Einhorn had allegedly threatened to throw out on the street. She was never seen again.

It was a year and a half later, when a neighbor <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna42711922#.WPudZ4jytPY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">complained</a> about a reddish-brown, stinking liquid leaking from the ceiling right below Einhorn&#8217;s bedroom closet that police showed up and searched his apartment.
They found Maddux&#8217;s mummified, somewhat decomposed body stuffed in a trunk along with Styrofoam, air fresheners, and newspapers.
&#8220;It looks like we found Holly,&#8221; a cop <a href="https://archive.wikiwix.com/cache/index2.php?rev_t=20110224092300&amp;url=http%3A%2Fwww.time.com%2Ftime%2Fnation%2Farticle%2F0%2C8599%2C168382%2C00.html#federation=archive.wikiwix.com&amp;tab=url" target="_blank" rel="noopener">said</a> to Einhorn.
&#8220;You found what you found,&#8221; he allegedly replied.
When police questioned Einhorn about his girlfriend&#8217;s disappearance, he claimed that in true hippie fashion, she had gone out to the neighborhood co-op to buy some tofu and sprouts and never returned.
Making matters even more darkly comical, his new girlfriend <a href="https://www.anothergaze.com/cecelia-condits-body-of-becoming-women-and-the-dark-forest-of-dreams/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reportedly</a> could not smell the body in his apartment thanks to a medication she was taking that affected her sense of smell.
Days before his murder trial was to begin in 1981, Einhorn fled the country and <a href="https://www.nbcnews.com/id/wbna42711922#.WPudZ4jytPY" target="_blank" rel="noopener">lived</a> in Europe for 20 years before he was finally extradited back to the United States.

When the murder case began, Earth Day organizers distanced themselves from Einhorn.
Two organizers of Philadelphia’s first Earth Day wrote to Time Magazine to complain about the idea that Einhorn had come up with the event, saying he was not even a member of the committee that organized it.
&#8220;The photo you ran was taken during a one-hour period when Einhorn literally occupied the podium, refusing to get off the stage and delaying Senator Edmund Muskie’s keynote speech,&#8221; the organizers <a href="https://time.com/vault/issue/1997-11-03/page/20/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">told</a> Time. &#8220;It was an unsuccessful attempt — at least at that time — to seize 15 minutes of fame. Now a notorious murder, flight, trial in absentia and foreign capture are giving Einhorn the national media attention he so desperately craved.&#8221;
Einhorn was eventually extradited from France and took the stand in his own defense, <a href="https://web.archive.org/web/20100831230541/http://dir.salon.com/story/news/feature/2002/10/18/einhorn/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claiming</a> his girlfriend had been murdered by CIA agents who framed him — we&#8217;re dealing with an extremely stable hippie here, folks.
He was convicted in 2002 and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. He died in prison in April 2020 at age 79.

A California university known for promoting leftist ideology removed racially-based eligibility requirements for its “environmentalist of color” scholarship program after facing legal questions over the discriminatory program. 
On Wednesday, the University of California, Berkeley, told The Daily Wire that it was investigating the program and was prepared to adjust it to comply with the law. Ahead of the investigation, it says that it has already renamed the program to the “Rooted in Joy” scholarship and taken away requirements that recipients “identify as a POC.&#8221;
“UC Berkeley is committed to complying with all state and federal laws regarding discrimination and related matters. We are looking into the matter regarding this particular program and if it is out of compliance, we will correct it promptly,” a spokesman for the university said. 
The rebrand comes after Defending Education filed a complaint with the Education Department, <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/watchdog-challenges-environmentalist-of-color-scholarship-at-notoriously-liberal-university?author=Leif+Le+Mahieu&amp;category=News&amp;elementPosition=2&amp;row=0&amp;rowType=Vertical+List&amp;title=Notoriously+Liberal+University’s+‘Environmentalist+Of+Color’+Scholarship+Is+Illegal%2C+Watchdog+Claims" target="_blank" rel="noopener">first reported</a> on by The Daily Wire, saying that the scholarship violated the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment and the Civil Rights Act.

The scholarship program, which offers five students $2,000 per year, is administered by the Student Environmental Resource Center and administered by the Green Initiative Fund. 
The university later said that it had “updated the program website as a first step.”
These updates included removing from the website requirements that a recipient “identify as BIPOC” and completely renaming the program.

The university also adjusted the goals of the program, changing its language from bridging “institutional gaps in resources and funding” for “students of color” to “students.” Another goal changed from financially supporting “passionate students of color” to “passionate students.” 
The goals of the scholarship still include a racial angle as the award remains designated for students working at the “intersection of communities of color and the environmental field at UC Berkeley.”
The organizational rebrand also included removing a question from its FAQ on what it meant to be a &#8220;person of color.&#8221; In the previous iteration, the university said that being a &#8220;POC&#8221; can go beyond skin color.
“While navigating the complexities and nuances of this question, SERC recognizes that being a ‘person of color’ goes beyond just skin color, and can include an intersectional expanse of racial, ethnic, and cultural experiences and identities. If you identify as a ‘person of color,’ we encourage you to apply,” the Student Environmental Resource Center said.
Also gone from the program were discussions of how &#8220;BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons-of-Color) are frequently asked to exclusively call upon their experiences with racial trauma and violence&#8221; to now just asking students to &#8220;consider their identities from the lens of radical healing, joy, and growth.&#8221;
The rebranding comes as UC Berkeley is under <a href="https://www.ed.gov/about/news/press-release/office-civil-rights-initiates-title-vi-investigations-institutions-of-higher-education-0" target="_blank" rel="noopener">investigation</a> by the Trump administration over potentially racially exclusionary practices in its graduate programs. The Education Department has warned all universities across the country to abide by the Supreme Court&#8217;s decision to strike down affirmative action or face penalties.

In the “Summa Theologiae,” Secunda Secundae, Question 26, he writes, “There must needs be some order in things loved out of charity, which order is in reference to the first principle of that love, which is God.” This expression alone proves editor of The Yale Review James Surowiecki had no idea what he was talking about when he <a href="https://x.com/JamesSurowiecki/status/1885302779058557080" target="_blank" rel="noopener">claimed</a> that the ordo amoris is not in the Gospels.
Not only is the ordo amoris in the Gospels, but it is also the principle articulated in the most famous line of the Gospels, <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew%2022%3A37-39&amp;version=ESV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Matthew 22:37-39</a>: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
There is, in other words, an order of charity — a hierarchy of love — and this order is the very foundation of Christian morality. We must love God first, and only then and upon that basis do we love everything else. And this order does not just comprise two categories. It isn’t just “God” and “everyone else.”
We find further scriptural evidence of the order of charity in <a href="https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Timothy%205%3A8&amp;version=RSV" target="_blank" rel="noopener">1 Timothy 5:8</a>: “If any one does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his own family, he has disowned the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.” A man does not necessarily disown the faith — he is not necessarily worse than an unbeliever — if he does not care for some random guy on the other side of the world. We have greater obligations to those who are closest to us.
This moral insight is attested to both by philosophy and religion — reason and revelation — and yet many liberals deny it. And we know they deny, not just because of their snarky tweets about JD Vance, but also from social science. Shortly after the ordo amoris debate kicked off, a graph went viral on social media.

It’s from a 2019 <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31558713/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">study</a> titled, “Ideological Differences in the Expanse of the Moral Circle.” The graph depicts heat maps “indicating highest moral allocation by ideology.” The “moral circle rings” extend from the center outward. Care for “your immediate family” is in the center, followed by “all of your extended family,” then “all of your closest friends,” then “all of your friends (including distant ones),” then your acquaintances, people you’ve ever met, your countrymen, people on your continent, all people, all mammals, all other animals, all living creatures (including amoebae), all potential life in the universe (including aliens), all living things (including plants and trees), all non-living things (including rocks), and finally all things in existence.
The study found that conservatives, being normal, tend to care more about the things closest to them; they tend to care more about their immediate families than they care about rocks. Liberals, being the sort of people who hug trees and hate their dads, tend not to care more about things closer to them. The study found that “the more liberal people were, the more they allocated equally to humans and non-humans.” A distinguishing feature of Right-wingers is that they are more likely “to morally prioritize humans over nonhumans.”
Some libs have attempted to argue that conservatives simply misunderstand the study. They argue the study shows that conservatives don’t care more about their families than liberals do; it’s just that liberals care more generally. Now, even if that were true — and it’s a perfectly plausible hypothesis given liberals’ frequent inability to control their emotions — it would still be extremely disordered to care more about strangers than about one’s own parents. Even if they cared more overall — which, it turns out, they don’t.
Liberals really do care more about rocks and trees than they do about their own families. We don’t need a chart or study to show us that. Just ask a liberal about climate change and abortion. Liberals will rend their garments over environmental threats to the coral reef, but they’ll dance in the streets to celebrate the murder of their own children through abortion.
And, it turns out, the study shows as much. Because the study “constrained the number of units that participants could assign to each group, forcing participants to distribute moral concern in a zero-sum fashion” (i.e., the more concern they allocate to one circle, the less they can allocate to another circle). And the researchers did this because research suggests that’s how people really do distribute “empathy and moral concern.” Of course: It’s a finite world. We only have so many hours to worry. We only have so many tears to shed.
But just to prove how deep this moral perversion runs on the political Left, the researchers conducted another study to test what would happen if they did not constrain people to zero-sum moral thinking. And what they discovered was that “even when participants’ allocations were not constrained, the same pattern replicated.” Conservatives, the researchers showed, exhibit “greater concern and preference for family relative to friends, the nation relative to the world … and humans relative to non-humans.”

So what conclusion are we to draw from this? Is it just a matter of preference? “Conservatives love their family and friends; liberals love trees and rocks” — de gustibus non disputandum est! No accounting for taste! I don’t think so. Any reasonable person knows that one should care more for his children than for rocks and trees. If liberals do not, it is because they have made a moral error.
And the liberals didn’t even necessarily fall into this moral error because they’re wicked. More likely, I think, they fall into it because they’re trying (and failing) to be good. I suspect most of the time it actually comes from a place of love. But that love is misplaced. It’s out of order. And disordered love tends to evil, just as the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
G.K. Chesterton explains the phenomenon with regard to his friend, the socialist atheist George Bernard Shaw.
“Bernard Shaw,” Chesterton <a href="https://www3.nd.edu/~afreddos/courses/439/orthodoxy2-3.htm" target="_blank" rel="noopener">writes</a>, “has a heroically large and generous heart; but not a heart in the right place. And this is so of the typical society of our time. The modern world is not evil; in some ways the modern world is far too good. It is full of wild and wasted virtues.”
“When a religious scheme is shattered,” he concludes, “it is not merely the vices that are let loose. The vices are, indeed, let loose, and they wander and do damage. But the virtues are let loose also; and the virtues wander more wildly, and the virtues do more terrible damage. The modern world is full of the old Christian virtues gone mad.”
Our nation’s — our whole civilization’s — religious scheme has obviously been shattered. The vice president invoked Thomas Aquinas, and our political elites were left drooling and scratching their heads.
The scheme has been shattered, the virtues have wandered, and these wandering virtues — these errant loves — have caused our present political ills. The only remedy is to restore order — not just to our streets and our communities but to our loves — if for no other reason than that without order, without caring for ourselves and our own, we can’t properly care for anyone else either.

When President Trump stated his commitment to getting &#8220;back to plastic,&#8221; it sparked a barrage of positive reactions across every major communication outlet. Why? Because paper straws suck.
As an industry committed to sustainability, we’ve grown weary of these “press release policies.” Going beyond plastic straws or getting &#8220;back to plastic&#8221; stokes a debate about whether we have accepted too many ineffective environmental policies in recent years that fail to pass the proverbial sustainability smell test but make for a feel-good headline for the activist organizations behind them.
Through a recent executive order, Trump declared that it is “the policy of the United States to end the use of paper straws.” 
Replacing a plastic straw with a paper one with no <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_M8ISBz3kBmEXgFln9E6/https%3A%2F%2Fpmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov%2Farticles%2FPMC8897272%2F">clear environmental advantage</a> is just one example of a policy that gained momentum without a sound scientific foundation. It actually started innocently enough with a 9-year-old who used <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_M4kZH_16UDyXgX611g1/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.npr.org%2F2018%2F07%2F22%2F631254978%2Fone-childs-outsized-influence-on-the-debate-over-plastic-waste">parochial data</a> about straw consumption for a school report. His intention was likely environmental in spirit, but little did he know that his daily-use number would be promoted by activist organizations, reported as fact by journalists, and used by lawmakers to justify their feel-good policies and ban plastic straws.  
Just recently, a <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_M8RERKKiswF4AKaGSi4/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.freedoniagroup.com%2Fpress-releases%2Ffreedonia-report-finds-new-jersey-single-use-bag-ban-boosts-alternative-bag-production%2C-increases-pl">study</a> illustrated more unintended consequences of local policies driven by “feel-good” emotions rather than facts. In New Jersey, a law was passed aimed at reducing plastic that did exactly the opposite. Instead, a mandatory ban on paper and plastic bags boosted the importation of non-recyclable plastic bags from Southeast Asia, increased overall material consumption, heightened the carbon footprint of shoppers, and slapped them with higher costs to boot. Again, “environmental” policies like these may sound good at first, but in the end, they are counterproductive and distract us from achieving our shared sustainability goals. If the elected officials in New Jersey could admit this mistake and actually &#8220;get back to plastic,&#8221; they would be passing pro-environmental legislation.
It’s easy to chuckle about straws and bags, but on the state, national, and global stages, we hear a chorus of activist organizations calling for limitations on all plastic production — material needed for our daily lives and critical to meeting most sustainability goals. What we know is that ocean-bound plastic from the United States makes up <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_NJKCuzYwYXA_QyeUpEK/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.science.org%2Fdoi%2F10.1126%2Fscience.1260352%3Futm_source" target="_blank" rel="noopener">less than 1%</a> of what ends up in our seas, and <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_M8V1SO3K9bxDQd2Qmco/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sciencedirect.com%2Fscience%2Farticle%2Fpii%2FS0025326X24005071%23%3A%7E%3Atext%3DFishing%2520gear%2520makes%2520up%252050%2Cdevise%2520meaningful%2520and%2520sustainable%2520solutions." target="_blank" rel="noopener">more than half</a> of that comes from discarded fishing gear. According to <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_NFYmII7DZBxMw-Lci0z/https%3A%2F%2Ftrellis.net%2Farticle%2Frise-plastic-insecurity-chinas-yangtze-river-economic-belt%2F%23%3A%7E%3Atext%3D90%2520percent%2520of%2520all%2520ocean%2520plastic%2520is%2Cthe%2520Yangtze%2520to%2520the%2520oceans%2520each%2520year.">multiple studies</a>, about 90% of plastic in the ocean comes from just 10 rivers, nine of which are in Asia. In fact, the Yangtze River in China is the largest contributor of plastic waste across the globe, dumping up to <a href="https://2244cf6a.streaklinks.com/CT9P_NBe3gvPejGKZAHHn9O-/https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nature.com%2Farticles%2Fncomms15611%23%3A%7E%3Atext%3DOur%2520model%2520predicted%2520that%2520the%2Cgreater%2520catchment%2520into%2520third%2520position." target="_blank" rel="noopener">one million tons into the ocean</a> each year. Yet American consumers and businesses have been pressured to move away from using essential plastic products because extremist groups have a political agenda rather than a truly environmental, solution-based one. 
I think the president is onto something much bigger here. Perhaps this executive order, which justifies our completely rational use of plastic straws and getting “back to plastic,” serves as a permission slip to rethink what we’ve been pressured to do in recent years. Maybe it’s directing us toward common-sense solutions rather than reactionary press release policies. As a society, we need to collectively agree that plastic is essential to our protection, well-being, health, and safety while simultaneously encouraging elected officials, businesses, and government to create environmental policies rooted in science rather than emotions. We also need to take a step back as a nation, not only to reduce waste but to invest in solutions that increase recycling rates and keep valuable plastic materials in the U.S. economy. 
Our industry believes that any molecule of plastic that leaves the economy is truly a waste, and our members work hard every day to innovate and provide the most sustainable solutions for their customers. We will continue to work with this administration and lawmakers on both sides of the aisle on practical, common-sense policies that support efforts to keep plastic out of the environment, increase recycling rates, and keep plastic products safe and available. Now is the time to hit reset on the misguided policies of the past few years, heed the words of the president, and go “back to plastic!”

EPA Administrator <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/lee-zeldin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lee Zeldin</a> said in a video released on Wednesday night that his agency has discovered an unprecedented scheme that was utilized by the Biden administration to funnel money to far-Left activist groups.
&#8220;An extremely disturbing video circulated two months ago featuring a Biden EPA political appointee talking about how they were &#8216;tossing gold bars off the Titanic,&#8217; rushing to get billions of your tax dollars out the door before Inauguration Day,&#8221; Zeldin said.
He continued, &#8220;The gold bars were tax dollars, and tossing them off the Titanic meant the Biden administration knew they were wasting it.&#8221;
Zeldin said that he has contacted the U.S. Justice Department and the inspector general to launch investigations into the $20 billion that was transferred to an outside financial institution for the purpose of doling out funds to leftist organizations during Biden&#8217;s final days in office.
&#8220;Fortunately, my awesome team at EPA has found the gold bars,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Shockingly, roughly $20 billion of your tax dollars were parked at an outside financial institution by the Biden EPA.&#8221;
&#8220;This scheme was the first of its kind in EPA history, and it was purposely designed to obligate all of the money in a rush job with reduced oversight,&#8221; he continued. &#8220;Even further, this pot of $20 billion was awarded to just eight entities that were then responsible for doling out your money to NGOs and others at their discretion with far less transparency.&#8221;
He said that the financial agreement with the bank needs to be instantly terminated and the funds need to be returned to the government.
&#8220;The days of irresponsibly shoveling boatloads of cash to far-Left activist groups in the name of environmental justice and climate equity are over,&#8221; he added.

<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/california" target="_blank" rel="noopener">California</a> is looking to hire people who can reshape the state’s view of air quality through the lens of “racial equity.”
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has <a href="https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/REL-community-expert-solicitation?utm_medium=email&amp;utm_source=govdelivery" target="_blank" rel="noopener">posted a job application</a> for a “community expert” to “help shape the California Air Resources Board’s approach to advancing racial equity.”
The job posting says the agency “is developing a racial equity impact analysis tool, known as CARB’s Racial Equity Lens, to advance the agency’s <a href="https://ww2.arb.ca.gov/equity" target="_blank" rel="noopener">vision for racial equity</a> — a future where all Californians equitably breathe healthy and clean air, benefit from actions to address climate change, and where race is no longer a predictor of life outcomes.”
CARB says it is seeking five “passionate community leaders and racial justice experts” to shape the Racial Equity Lens, which it calls “ground truthing.” To do this, these “experts” will need to “validate data and information by comparing it with direct, real-world observations or measurements from community members the tool is intended to serve.”
Anyone who gets the job will have to provide written feedback about the tool and attend four meetings between March and June. Total compensation for four months of work will be about $2,500 ($375 to $500 per meeting/task).
The jobs are available because CARB adopted a resolution in 2020 “establishing an explicit commitment to advance racial equity and social justice measures in all CARB actions.&#8221; California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) issued <a href="https://www.gov.ca.gov/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/9.13.22-EO-N-16-22-Equity.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">an executive order</a> in September 2022 requiring “state entities to embed racial equity strategies in their work, in part by developing or updating strategic plans to promote equity and respond to identified disparities.”
The tool has been in development since 2021 and pilot exercises ran between 2022 and 2024, a spokesman for CARB told The Daily Wire.
The job posting is full of “equity” jargon.
The posting requests that applicants who “have lived, professional, and/or leadership experiences uncommon in government bodies and industry” apply for the job and list a range of previous jobs suitable for the position, including community organizers. People who have “personal or lived experience as proponents of racial equity and/or environmental justice” are encouraged to apply.
Applicants need to be California residents “and/or a member of a California Tribal Government.” They should be from specific, disadvantaged, and low-income communities such as those in San Francisco, San Diego, or Los Angeles.
A CARB spokesperson told The Daily Wire that applications are open to “all qualified applicants, regardless of race,” adding, “Advancing racial equity requires collaboration and requires responsibility across all racial and ethnic backgrounds.”

Michigan state officials plan to clear 420 acres from a state forest to build a new solar farm in the name of environmentalism.
A “top state official” <a href="https://www.mlive.com/environment/2025/01/michigan-plans-to-clear-400-acres-of-state-forest-near-gaylord-for-solar-farm.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">confirmed</a> to MLive that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) planned to bulldoze a large swath of forestland to build a solar farm as part of a lease agreement.
The outlet noted that the DNR “recently assessed 1,200 acres of public trust land in Otsego County near a major power transmission line to decide whether it was suitable for solar arrays” and decided to lease 35% of the land to go with other solar projects that are already being developed.
The sudden desire to destroy trees for solar panels comes as the state risks failing to meet its own climate goal of 100% “clean” energy by 2040. If it doesn’t increase its development of so-called renewable energy, it won’t meet its arbitrary timeframe.
The 420 acres about to be bulldozed are part of 4,000 acres of public land that will be flattened to try and meet the 2040 deadline.
If Michigan instead committed to nuclear power, it could meet its goal much quicker and by using much less land. Chris Martz, a meteorology student who regularly tackles climate change and energy myths, published a chart showing nuclear power produces far more power on less land than solar and wind. For example, 640 acres (about one square mile) for a nuclear power plant would produce 1,000 megawatts of power and can power just over 775,000 homes. Getting the same power from solar panels would require 5,000-7,000 acres of land and only power 193,523 homes. Onshore wind power is even less efficient.
Dr. Judith Curry, one of the most prominent atmospheric scientists who debunks climate myths, responded to Martz’s chart by saying, “Land use requirements (among other thing [sic]) will seriously constrain the penetration of wind and solar into the grid, and this analysis doesn&#8217;t include the additional land requirements for transmission lines.”

Solar panels are also damaged by harsh weather, such as hail, which could be a problem in the Midwest.
Michigan’s decision to destroy land for more solar panels also comes at a time when climate alarmism is seeing a decline after decades of dire predictions have failed to come true.
Major Wall Street firms <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2025-01-02/morgan-stanley-leaves-net-zero-alliance-for-banks?embedded-checkout=true" target="_blank" rel="noopener">are leaving</a> the Net-Zero Banking Alliance, a group dedicated to “aligning their lending, investment, and capital markets activities with net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050,” according to the U.N.-aligned group’s <a href="https://www.unepfi.org/net-zero-banking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">website</a>. It’s essentially environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, which has come under <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/exclusive-21-state-attorneys-general-warn-asset-managers-that-esg-agenda-could-violate-fiduciary-duty" target="_blank" rel="noopener">intense scrutiny</a> in recent years, with asset managers seemingly more concerned.

With the battleground state of Pennsylvania, whose economy is profoundly affected by its capacity for fracking, it is instructive to remember that in 2019, when running for President of the United States, then-Sen. Kamala Harris flatly stated she would ban fracking.
Harris spoke at a <a href="http://edition.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1909/04/se.03.html">CNN Climate Crisis Town Hall</a> on September 4, 2019, hosted by CNN’s Erin Burnett.
Jessie Bluedorn, whom CNN called a “climate activist” and worked with the “Climate Organization 350,” insisted, “The toxic impacts of fracking on the community are immense,” then asked, “From contaminated groundwater to poisonous emissions &#8212; will you commit to implementing a federal ban on fracking your first day in office, adding the United States to the list of countries who have banned this devastating practice?”
Harris, who had said earlier in the town hall, “To the United States Congress, here&#8217;s my point. If they fail to act, as president of the United States, I am prepared to get rid of the filibuster to pass a Green New Deal,” answered, “There&#8217;s no question I&#8217;m in favor of banning fracking, so yes. And &#8230; starting with what we can do on day one around public lands, right? And then there has to be legislation, but yes &#8212; and this is something I&#8217;ve taken on in California. I have a history of working on this issue. And to your point, we have to just acknowledge that the residual impact of fracking is enormous in terms of the impact on the health and safety of communities &#8212; yeah, so thank you.”
“So would you ban offshore drilling?” Burnett interjected.
“Yes, and I&#8217;ve again, worked on that,” Harris responded. “You can &#8212; you can talk to the folks in Santa Barbara about the work that I&#8217;ve done there where it&#8217;s a big problem &#8212; but it&#8217;s a big problem in many areas of our country &#8212; and yes, I would. Yes.”
“Pennsylvania’s natural gas sector supports ~123,000 statewide jobs and contributed more than $41 billion in 2022 state economic activity, according <a href="http://marcelluscoalition.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Economic-and-Fiscal-Impact-of-Pennsylvania-Shale-Development.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noopener">to the report</a> conducted by energy economists at FTI Consulting, Inc., a global business advisory firm,” the Marcellus Shale Coalition has <a href="https://marcelluscoalition.org/2023/09/27/new-study-natural-gas-generates-billions-for-pa-s-economy-supports-120k-jobs-boosts-critical-tax-revenues/#:~:text=As%20the%20report%20highlights%2C%20in,%2441%20billion%20in%20economic%20activity." target="_blank" rel="noopener">noted</a>.
PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) noted in a <a href="https://www.api.org/news-policy-and-issues/news/2023/05/16/api-pwc-pa-2023" target="_blank" rel="noopener">recent study</a> that in Pennsylvania, the natural gas and oil industry in 2021 directly and indirectly:
<ul style="font-weight: 400;">
<li>Supported 423,700 total jobs (93,060 direct and 330,640 indirect) or 5.6 percent of Pennsylvania’s total employment.</li>
<li>Generated an additional 3.6 jobs elsewhere in Pennsylvania’s economy for each direct job in the state’s natural gas and oil industry.</li>
<li>Provided $40.3 billion in labor income ($14.3 billion direct and $26.0 billion indirect) to Pennsylvania, 7.5 percent of the state’s total.</li>
<li>Contributed $75.0 billion to Pennsylvania’s total gross domestic product ($35.9 billion direct and $39.1 billion indirect), 8.9 percent of the state’s total.</li>

Former Senator Jim Inhofe, the Oklahoma Republican who once threw a snowball onto the Senate floor to make a point about climate change, has died.
Inhofe passed away on Tuesday, July 9, after suffering a stroke. He was 89.
Inhofe&#8217;s death was confirmed by former Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler, a former Inhofe staffer.
“Former Sen Jim Inhofe passed away this morning. He was a devout Christian and family man. He was also devoted to his former staff who he considered his extended family,” Wheeler <a href="https://x.com/AndrewRWheeler/status/1810690613215478096">wrote on X</a>.
Inhofe called climate change a “hoax” and frequently sounded off against the global warming narrative, at one point even <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3E0a_60PMR8" target="_blank" rel="noopener">bringing</a> a snowball onto the Senate floor to argue that human activity does not cause global warming.
&#8220;In case we have forgotten, because we keep hearing that 2014 has been the warmest year on record, I ask the chair, you know what this is?&#8221; Inhofe said during a floor speech in February 2015 as he produced a snowball from a bag beside his podium.

&#8220;It&#8217;s a snowball,&#8221; he said. &#8220;From outside here. So it&#8217;s very, very cold out.&#8221;
&#8220;So here, Mr. President, catch this,&#8221; Inhofe added as he tossed the snowball.
As chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, Inhofe was a vocal critic of over-the-top environmental regulation. Some of his staffers went on to be influential in environmental policy in the Trump administration&#8217;s EPA.
Inhofe was friendly with former California Sen. Barbara Boxer, a staunch liberal Democrat, despite their differences. The two worked together on several major highway and water infrastructure bills.
Inhofe was the longest-serving senator from Oklahoma and was in office from 1994 to 2023.
He retired last year after 29 years in the Senate. Prior to his Senate career, he was a congressman from Oklahoma from 1987 to 1994. Before being elected to the federal government, he was mayor of Tulsa for six years and a member of the state House and then the state Senate.
In his 20s, Inhofe was drafted into the Army and served about a year.
