The 2026 <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2026/07/08/entertainment/emmy-award-nominations-2026">Emmy nominations</a> were released on Wednesday, delivering several surprise nominees alongside a handful of notable snubs. 
“The Pitt” led all series with 25 nominations. The comedy-drama “Hacks” followed with 24 total noms in its final season, while HBO Max dominated all other outlets with 122 nominations overall, including three shows up for both Best Overall Drama and Best Overall Comedy.
One of the surprise hits was “Widow’s Bay,” a buzzy, unique horror-comedy on Apple TV starring Matthew Rhys, which earned 19 nominations. It gained traction several weeks after its debut thanks to word of mouth and rave reviews from critics.
The New York Times reviewer said of the Apple TV offering, “A laugh and a scare are different outcomes of the same achievement, a good surprise, and ‘Widow’s Bay’ has more of those than there are fish in the sea.”
Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro called the series “one of the most mesmerizing acts of narrative prestidigitation in horror” and even, “the best streaming series in a long time.”
“Pluribus,” a hit from famed creator Vince Gilligan, got 18 total nominations, including a Best Actress in a Drama nomination for “Better Call Saul” alum Rhea Seahorn. 
Apple TV also landed Best Comedy Series nominations for “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” and “Shrinking.”
Stephen Colbert has <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/america-waves-goodbye-to-stephen-colbert-as-trump-lands-a-final-parting-shot">made a lot of noise</a> after his “Late Show With Stephen Colbert” got canceled, but the show ended up with the most nominations ever in its 11-year run, scoring 9 total. 
Notable snubs this year include “The Bear,” which earned a few nominations but fewer than in prior years, and no Best Actor recognition for Jeremy Allen White.

Hollywood star Candice Bergen got political at the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards when she took a swipe at Republican Vice President candidate <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/jd-vance-torches-democratic-propagandist-dana-bash-during-cnn-interview" target="_blank" rel="noopener">J.D. Vance</a>.
On Sunday during the <a href="https://x.com/ask_aubry/status/1835494866890952777" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ABC broadcast</a> at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the 78-year-old actress recalled playing news anchor “Murphy Brown” on the popular show and a moment during her career when her character became pregnant but was unmarried.
&#8220;In one classic moment, my character was attacked by [Republican] Vice President Dan Quayle when Murphy became pregnant and decided to raise the baby as a single mother,” Bergen told the room of stars. “Oh how far we’ve come.”
“Today a Republican candidate for Vice President would never attack a woman for having kids,” she added sarcastically. “So as they say, my work here is done. Meow”

The comment was part of an ongoing attack by the left against <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/vance-hits-kamala-over-maga-morphosis-adopting-all-of-donald-trumps-policies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">former President Donald Trump</a>’s running mate — over something Vance said during an interview in <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/dems-try-to-paint-jd-vance-as-weird-talk-about-projection">2021</a> that has been completely taken out of context.
“We are effectively run in this country via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too,” Vance said. &#8220;That is a basic fact. Look at Kamala Harris, AOC, and the like; the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children. How does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people who don’t have a direct stake in it?”
Bergen’s comment wasn’t the only one of the night that mentioned the upcoming election. Actress Liza Colon-Zayas for “The Bear” was nominated for Best Supporting Actress. During her <a href="https://x.com/CapaMagDizi/status/1835477789551517857">acceptance speech</a> she thanked supporters and then just said “Vote.”
&#8220;All the Latinas who are looking at me, keep believing and VOTE,” Colon-Zayas said. “Vote for your rights,” without explaining further what she meant by that last comment. 
“Only In The Murders Building” stars opened the evening’s show with actress <a href="https://x.com/the13manuscript/status/1835473907349876810">Selena Gomez</a> attempting to take a swipe at Vance when she labeled her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short “childless cat ladies.”
She didn’t get the bit right and said that Martin and Short were “this far away from being childless cat ladies&#8221; instead of &#8220;this close&#8230;&#8221; as <a href="https://x.com/PageSix/status/1835485972500218057" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Page Six</a> noted.

A Gazan woman with long ties to a U.S.-designated terror organization was nominated in June for the 2024 News and Documentary Emmy Awards.
Bisan Owda, who was once a member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), was nominated with her outlet, AJ+ in the Outstanding Hard News Feature Story: Short Form category for her Al Jazeera show “It’s Bisan from Gaza and I’m Still Alive.” The video series documents Owda’s experience since Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel, during which the terrorist group killed over a thousand people and took hundreds hostage.
But Owda’s 4.7 million Instagram followers may not be aware of her ties to the PFLP. In a 2015 on-camera interview with a Palestinian outlet, Owda, wearing military garb and a PFLP scarf, said she would not back down from “revolution.”

“The most important front is that the people of Gaza, the people in the West Bank, and in Jerusalem, and all the protesters are one hand and one people who will not back down for a moment from their land, from their right to their land,” she said in Arabic. “That is to say, they will not back down at all from their cause and their revolution.”
The interview took place at PFLP’s 48th-anniversary celebration in 2015, for which “Comrade” Owda served as a reception committee member and welcomed the crowds, <a href="https://www.alwatanvoice.com/arabic/news/2015/12/12/830799.html">according to the Palestinian outlet Al Watan Voice</a>. Owda was nominated by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), the organization responsible for the News and Documentary Emmys. The New York City-based organization is separate from the Primetime Emmy Awards bestowed by the Academy of Television Arts &amp; Sciences.

A spokeswoman for NATAS told The Daily Wire that its awards are given by independent judges after a peer review.
“Independent peer judges from across the broadcast journalism community reviewed the content and found it meritorious,” the spokeswoman said. 
The judges’ votes are anonymous, and they are not paid by NATAS.
Owda <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/5/9/bisan-owda-and-aj-win-peabody-award-for-gaza-war-coverage">won</a> a Peabody Award for her show earlier this year, and <a href="https://www.instagram.com/p/C6wV7k2rkBh/">dedicated</a> the award to “college students who are protesting, to all the people who took to the streets, to all the people at home who are participating in boycotts, to all the people worldwide, regardless of their religion, color, ethnicity, and kind.” ⁣
Owda kicked off her coverage of the October 7 massacre by defending it, <a href="https://www.jpost.com/middle-east/article-771443">according</a> to The Jerusalem Post.
“For every action, there is a reaction. This means: What was expected after 75 years of occupation and 17 years of siege?” she wrote in Arabic. “What was expected of us? … Would the families of the prisoners remain silent?&#8221;
Since then, Owda has pushed anti-Israel rhetoric and falsehoods, and claimed that Israel is committing genocide and commits massacres “every second.”
In March, Owda, who nicknamed Israel, “IsraHell,” said it was a “lie” that United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) workers participated in the October 7 massacre, and blamed the organization losing some funding over the reports as a “reason of [sic] the starvation of 2.3 million in Gaza.”
Nine UNRWA workers <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/u-n-fires-multiple-unrwa-employees-after-discovering-evidence-of-alleged-involvement-in-october-7-attacks">were fired</a> this week after an investigation concluded there was sufficient evidence they may have been involved in the October 7 attacks, according to UNRWA Deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq. <a href="https://www.timesofisrael.com/key-food-security-org-finds-no-famine-in-gaza-says-previous-assumptions-wrong/">A report</a> from the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) determined that there has been no famine in Gaza as of June.

The hit FX Original “The Bear” broke a record for a comedy series, racking up the most <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/emmys">Emmy nominations</a> ever in that genre. 
Nominees for the 76th Emmy Awards were announced Wednesday morning. The FX drama series “Shogun” led the total nominations with 25, while “The Bear” made second place overall with 23. Prior to 2024, the most Emmy nominations for a comedy series went to NBC&#8217;s “30 Rock,” which received 22 nods in 2009.
“The Bear” documents the drama of a Chicago-based sandwich shop that goes through a drastic transformation after the owner takes his life. Carmy Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) leaves the world of fine dining to run his late brother’s popular spot, then eventually transforms it into a totally different type of restaurant with the help of a supporting cast, including Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Liza Colon-Zoyas, Abby Elliot, and others.
Last year, the show earned 13 Emmy nominations and took home 10 wins.
Other projects with a large number of Emmy nominations include Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” with 21, HBO&#8217;s “True Detective: Night Country” with 19, and Netflix’s “The Crown” with 18.
The 76th Emmys will air live on ABC from the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15, from 8 to 11 p.m. ET.

Activist and actor <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/john-leguizamo">John Leguizamo</a> took out a full-page ad in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/new-york-times">New York Times</a> on Sunday urging Emmy Award voters to nominate “non-white artists.” 
The 63-year-old explained the move in an X post.
“I know everyone is exhausted about inclusion, but not us who are not included. So that’s why I took this ad out in the NYTimes. White peoples (sic) are only 58.9% of the population but over represented in top positions across the board. They are the decision makers in tech, banking, corporations, medicine and streamers and Hollywood!” Leguizamo <a href="https://x.com/JohnLeguizamo/status/1799861380893577639">wrote</a>.

He continued, “America is better when it is inclusive. It is more profitable. It is more creative! Let’s not give up. I’m still woke! Are you?” then proceeded to tag prominent entertainment figures, including Whoopi Goldberg, Naomi Watts, Shaquille O’Neal, Missy Elliot, and others.
Voting for the Emmys will begin this week on June 13, per the Deadline, and all ballots are due by June 24. Nominee selections will be announced on July 17.
The 76th Emmy Awards show is scheduled to air on September 15.
Leguizamo’s full-page ad pleaded for voters to prioritize “<a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/diversity-equity-and-inclusion-dei">diversity and inclusion</a>” when making their selections.
“Please let this be the year we finally embrace change,” the Colombian-born actor wrote. “The year we truly find Equity, and see artists of color represented across not just one category, but ALL categories.”
“I know you’re tired of hearing words like ‘inclusivity’ and ‘diversity’ – treading water while you try to understand how to put actions behind these sentiments. Look no further! It’s simple!” he wrote.

Leguizamo went on, “There are hundreds of prolific non-white artists who deserve to be considered for Awards this year, not because they are simply… Black, Brown, Indigenous or Asian but because they are truly great… exceptional artists who have achieved that greatness with a foot on their neck for far too long.”
“Let this be a start of a new era,” the letter concluded. “Let us not continue to white wash our Awards shows. Instead let this year be the catalyst that inspires the Next Generation of minority and underrepresented artists… a generation who might finally see a reflection of themselves on that stage and think, ‘If they can, maybe I can too…&#8217;”

Explicit sexual content on television shows is so common it’s not even shocking anymore. Instead, the more surprising move is to make a popular series with attractive young actors and then choose not to show them all hooking up with each other.
This isn’t necessarily what the creator of the Emmy-winning series “The Bear” set out to do. But in crafting a narrative that’s free from blatant sexual promiscuity, the showrunner proved that even if sex sells, a series doesn’t need sex to sell. It just needs to tell a good story.
“The Bear” is a comedy-drama television series created by Christopher Storer. The Hulu series debuted on June 23, 2022, with actor Jeremy Allen White starring as an award-winning chef who returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage his family restaurant after his older brother committed suicide. The restaurant is filled with colorful characters and family members, each with their own idiosyncrasies and unique personalities.

A lot of drama went down in two seasons, but except for a very brief, extremely tame (comparatively speaking) moment in the second season, “The Bear” has no sexual content whatsoever.
Every episode is rated TV-MA for explicit language, of which there is plenty. This fits in well with the storyline, though, as it accurately represents what goes on in real restaurant kitchens across the nation. Many members of the restaurant industry complained that the show is so true to life that it’s impossible to watch.
But there’s no sex. That absence was enough to make mainstream media writers notice, with many outlets noting of the first season that “The Bear” was even sexier because it didn’t have any sex in it.
“The Hottest Show of the Summer Has No Sex,” one <a href="https://www.thecut.com/2022/07/the-bear-television-no-sex-yes-chef.html">headline</a> from 2022 declared.
“‘The Bear’ is largely devoid of romance in any sense of the word, and the only moments of real pleasure come from food: making it, eating it, selling it, having enough money to make more of it,” the writer from The Cut” explains. “The show’s most poignant and vulnerable scenes happen between family or friends, not romantic partners.”
The article goes on to mention how there’s obvious sexual tension between the show’s two main characters, Carmy (White) and Syd (Ayo Edebiri), but the two chefs never act on it or even seem to acknowledge it. The writer observes how this complete lack of follow-through is precisely what makes the show alluring.
Though no mainstream writer would admit it, what they’ve stumbled upon is the idea that subtlety is more attractive than explicit sexual imagery. A woman wearing a turtleneck sweater can – and does – look sexier than that same woman in a skimpy bikini top.
This isn’t to say that the restaurant employees aren’t having sex on the show. Maybe they are doing it, somewhere off-camera. But the point of “The Bear” is to tell the story of a close-knit group of friends and family who, despite their dysfunction, are coming together to build something exceptional. This storyline doesn’t need nudity and gratuitous sex to be told well. And because it doesn’t have those things, “The Bear” stands out from other shows in the same sphere.
Because it is 2024, there is one single intimate scene in the show’s second season. But once again, considering the show is rated TV-MA, the brief interlude is incredibly tame when compared to so many others. Carmy and his girlfriend are seen in bed but there’s no nudity or other indicators of sexual activity.

This method of storytelling once again proves that explicit sex is far less sexy than subtlety and innuendo.
One reviewer called the absence of pornographic content “ingenious.” The Mamamia writer compared “The Bear” to HBO’s drama series “The Idol” starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, the latter of which made headlines for having such graphic sex scenes.
“In an age where watching sex — or rather, porn — is available at the tap of a finger, it almost feels like a daring choice to exclude intimacy scenes from ‘The Bear,’” Shannen Findlay <a href="https://www.mamamia.com.au/the-bear-sex-scenes/">wrote</a>.
“‘The Idol’ was intent on telling us something through lewd and violent intimacy. Unlike ‘The Bear,’ it uses raunchy, debaucherous sex instead of a good plot to tell the story,” she added. “But in a world where sex is so visible and easy to access, why do we have to keep enduring simulated intercourse between actors? Why is the inclusion of sex beginning to feel like a drawback when choosing or watching a show?”
It’s worth mentioning that “The Bear” was renewed for a third season after receiving widespread critical acclaim for its writing, directing, acting, and production values.
The first season received ten Emmy Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series and individual wins for White, Edebiri, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. It also won four Golden Globe Awards including the top prize for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy in 2024.

“The Idol” was panned by critics, mocked by viewers, and canceled after just one season.
It’s because “The Bear” is telling a more vital story than one about empty sex. Season 2 episodes “Fishes” and “Forks” were two of the most moving, emotionally fraught episodes of television to come out in recent years. Neither one contains sex. But both have incredible depth.
There’s a very good chance that Hollywood show creators will learn nothing from this phenomenon. Despite “The Bear” proving definitively that entertainment doesn’t need sex, nudity, promiscuity, and other sexual content to win awards and attract fans, there’s a good chance that showrunners will continue jamming sex scenes into content even when it’s not needed.
There’s also a chance that “The Bear” will add more sex into their third season, following the trend of so many shows that came before.
Hopefully this refreshingly different drama series will hold out and continue being the sexiest sex-free show on television.

Mo’Nique is best known for winning an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in the drama “Precious” (2009). She also hosted her own talk show, “The Mo&#8217;Nique Show” (2009–2011), and earned an Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Ma Rainey in the HBO biopic “Bessie” (2015). 
The comedian also received a Grammy nomination in 2002 for Best Comedy Album.
Meanwhile, McCarthy starred on the CBS sitcom “Mike and Molly” for six seasons and won an Emmy for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. She also received nominations for two Academy Awards for her film work, including “Bridesmaids” and “Can You Ever Forgive Me?”
McCarthy wasn’t the only one Mo’Nique complained about during the interview. She also accused Kevin Hart of dissing her by failing to produce new content with her, which she claimed he promised to do despite her public feud with Tyler Perry.
Mo’Nique claimed Hart told her, “Let’s move past it, Mo. Let’s do great things together. Don’t even worry about it. Whatever you want to do I will partner with you. I will executive produce with you … I’ll do whatever you want me to do.”
Mo’Nique said Hart’s manager told her that Hart “doesn’t want anything to do with Mo’Nique.” She said Hart called it a “miscommunication.”

“That was two years ago,” the comedian said. “I never talked back to Kevin Hart again.”
The “Precious” star also expressed her displeasure with Oprah Winfrey, who she claimed went behind her back and interviewed her family about alleged sexual abuse she experienced during childhood.
Mo’Nique said she agreed to Oprah’s request to have her brother appear on the talk show in 2010, but would not have said yes to her entire family participating. The whole thing left her feeling “betrayed.”
“We never talked about my mother being there,” the actress <a href="https://www.huffpost.com/entry/monique-oprah-betrayed-traumatic-childhood_n_65c535cbe4b093b2e782dbc5">said</a>, per HuffPost. “Imagine … [you see your family on a show] and they’re talking about someone who violated you, and that woman didn’t tell you that they were going to be there, how would you feel?”

The Emmy ratings tanked for a second year, with the annual awards show suffering its worst performance ever — just 4.46 million viewers tuned in for Monday night&#8217;s show.
Broadcast on Fox, the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards show continued its decline in viewers following the decision to postpone it from its usual spot in September due to the ongoing writers&#8217; and actors&#8217; strikes in Hollywood at the time, the <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tv-ratings-monday-jan-15-2024-1235789492/">Hollywood Reporter</a> reported.
The telecast brought in 4.46 million viewers — which was down from the previous low set in 2022 when the annual awards show got 5.9 million viewers, the outlet noted.
The awards show was also down in the coveted age demographic of 18-49, with a .87 rating compared to the 1.09 it got in 2022, THR noted.

Besides the months-long delay for the show honoring the best of TV, the awards had to compete with a busy broadcast night. It aired directly across from the NFC Wild Card playoffs game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers that was shown on ABC and ESPN. It also fell on the same night of the Iowa caucuses and coverage of those results across the cable news channels, THR noted.
To put the 4.46 million viewership into context, the Buccaneers blowout against the Eagles garnered 28 million viewers, and the political news coverage another 4.7 million who tuned in to Fox News, MSNBC and CNN during the same broadcast time as the awards show to catch the returns, <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/01/16/business/media/emmy-awards-ratings.html">The New York Times</a> noted.
Other awards shows have suffered similar drops since the pandemic, but as of late have seen a rebound. The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/golden-globes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Golden Globes</a> — which had seen declining numbers for several years — experienced its first spike in the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/golden-globes-see-spike-in-ratings-for-first-time-since-2020" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ratings</a> game since 2020, with the most recent awards show scoring a 50 percent jump in viewership over last year&#8217;s dismal ratings.
With a move to the CBS network and a lead-in from the NFL, the 2024 Golden Globes averaged 9.4 million viewers, based on time zone-adjusted fast national ratings from Nielsen, according to The <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/tv-ratings-sunday-jan-7-2024-1235782200/">Hollywood Reporter</a>.
The 2024 broadcast showed a healthy jump from the 6.25 million viewers who watched last year on NBC, marking the second-smallest audience in the network&#8217;s 28 years of broadcasting the awards show.
The 2024 Emmys are already set to take place later this year when it will be broadcast in September on ABC, the Times noted.

The late <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/television">talk show</a> host <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/celebrities">Jerry Springer</a>’s &#8220;longtime rep&#8221; reportedly said she&#8217;s disappointed about the celebrity being left off the “In Memoriam” segment that aired at the 2024 Emmy Awards.
“Very sad,” the unnamed rep reportedly <a href="https://radaronline.com/p/jerry-springer-longtime-rep-speaks-out-about-emmy-snub/">told</a> RadarOnline Tuesday, also mentioning her phone was ringing “off the hook” following the award show’s glaring omission. &#8220;But thank you for remembering him, he deserves to be remembered!&#8221; she told the outlet.
Fans on social media also voiced their surprise that the <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/emmys">Emmys</a> snubbed Springer, who died in April at the age of 79 after battling pancreatic cancer. 
&#8220;Uhhh… where the heck was Jerry Springer in the memorial?!&#8221; one account asked on X.
The daytime TV staple was the host of “The Jerry Springer Show” from 1991 until 2018, hosting more than 3,000 episodes during that time. Springer is considered a pioneer in the daytime talk show genre. His tabloid style was controversial, but the program was a commercial success that changed the landscape of daytime TV.
The “In Memoriam” segment featured recording artist Charlie Puth joined onstage by the husband-wife R&amp;B duo The War and Treaty to sing Puth&#8217;s song, &#8220;See You Again,&#8221; originally written to honor the late actor Paul Walker.
The Emmys paid tribute to several prominent TV industry celebrities who died last year, including Norman Lear, Angela Lansbury, Bob Barker, Andre Braugher, Barbara Walters, Angus Cloud, Lance Reddick, and Paul Reubens, among others. There was also a special tribute to “Friends” star Matthew Perry featuring the NBC sitcom’s theme song.

Emmy producer Jesse Collins <a href="https://www.etonline.com/emmys-producer-on-why-jerry-springer-was-left-out-of-the-in-memoriam-segment-exclusive-218087">told</a> Entertainment Tonight that selecting who gets memorialized is one of the “hardest parts of the show.”
&#8220;The selection process is handled by the Television Academy, so we focus more on the creative side of it,&#8221; the producer told ET. &#8220;And it&#8217;s just about making sure that when we are acknowledging someone we give them their just due and it&#8217;s respectful and loving, and we just try to make sure that we accomplish that.&#8221;
TV fans noticed that the “In Memoriam” segment was missing other prominent TV stars who passed last year besides Springer, including Raquel Welch and Ray Stevenson.

A report released last week revealed that ESPN has been forced to return sports Emmy statuettes that it has given out to some of its top stars after the network used a fake name scheme to fraudulently obtain the awards for top talent who were not eligible.
The Athletic <a href="https://theathletic.com/5193316/2024/01/11/espn-emmys-fake-names-college-gameday/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a> that the National Academy of Television Arts &amp; Sciences (NATAS) uncovered &#8220;a scheme that the network used to acquire more than 30 of the coveted statuettes for on-air talent ineligible to receive them&#8221; that involved submitting fake names in Emmy entries.
ESPN took the awards doled out to the fictitious individuals and then &#8220;had them re-engraved and gave them to on-air personalities,&#8221; the report said.
Some of the top on-air talent whom ESPN gave the Emmys to included Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard, and others.
There was no evidence that any of the recipients of the fraudulent Emmys had any idea that they were ill-gotten, the report said.
&#8220;Some members of our team were clearly wrong in submitting certain names that may go back to 1997 in Emmy categories where they were not eligible for recognition or statuettes,&#8221; ESPN said in a statement. &#8220;This was a misguided attempt to recognize on-air individuals who were important members of our production team. Once current leadership was made aware, we apologized to NATAS for violating guidelines and worked closely with them to completely overhaul our submission process to safeguard against anything like this happening again.&#8221;
The network said it hired an outside law firm to conduct an investigation, and those responsible were held accountable.

The scheme was allegedly implemented because on-air talent for the network&#8217;s wildly popular “College GameDay” was ineligible by NATAS guidelines from being able to win a trophy for outstanding weekly studio show because they were eligible to win Emmys in individual categories, like outstanding host or studio analyst.
The Athletic reviewed the fake names that ESPN submitted over a span of nearly ten years in which names were submitted that were close to the names of those to whom ESPN later gave the Emmy. Examples included Kirk Henry (Kirk Herbstreit), Lee Clark (Lee Corso), Dirk Howard (Desmond Howard), Tim Richard (Tom Rinaldi), Steven Ponder (Sam Ponder), Gene Wilson (Gene Wojciechowski), Chris Fulton (Chris Fowler) and Shelley Saunders (Shelley Smith).
One person involved in the ESPN Emmy submission process in recent years said that the network did it because the on-air personalities were &#8220;so important, and they have egos.&#8221;

The <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/topic/hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Primetime Emmy Awards</a> and the Creative Arts ceremony are the latest productions impacted by the dual Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) strikes.
The 75th Emmy Awards has been moved from its usual spot in September to next January and will be held at the newly renamed Peacock Theater at LA Live, according to <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/emmy-awards-delay-new-date-announced-1235548864/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The Hollywood Reporter</a>. It is the first time it has moved since 2001, following the terrorist attacks on September 11 of that year <a href="https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/emmys-move-january-2024-martin-luther-king-jr-day-1235692748/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> noted.
The pre-taped Creative Arts ceremonies will also be moved until next year because of the ongoing labor strike with the writers and actors unions and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). The shows will take place Saturday, January 6, and Sunday, January 7 at LA Live, with an edited presentation that will air on Saturday, January 13 on FXX.

Some reportedly hoped that moving the ceremonies until November would be a long enough delay, but others feared it wouldn&#8217;t, noting that negotiations are not going well. The AMPTP has only met once with the writers in the 101 days since the strike began after the collective of studios did not approve a new contract with increased minimum compensation and larger contributions to benefits, THR noted. Things have been even worse between SAG-AFTRA and the trade association that represents the studios, with complete radio silence since the group voted to strike in July.
The move to January for both shows will make for a busy month, with the 2024 Golden Globes currently scheduled for January 7, along with the Critics Choice Awards, which are slated for the 14th, <a href="https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/emmys-move-january-2024-martin-luther-king-jr-day-1235692748/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Variety</a> noted. There is no word yet on the conflict of dates. The Academy Awards are currently still set to take place on March 10, 2024.

The actor&#8217;s union voted unanimously last month to join the WGA strike, effectively shutting down Hollywood, <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/business-news/sag-aftra-strike-press-conference-livestream-1235535529/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">THR</a> noted. The strike means &#8220;all scripted series&#8221; will shut down, and productions on TV shows and movies must stop until an agreement can be reached, as previously <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/disney-ceo-bob-iger-says-writers-and-actors-are-not-realistic-with-demands-its-very-disturbing-to-me" target="_blank" rel="noopener">reported</a>.
